Biological pretreatment can promote the degradation of biomass and enhance methane production via the subsequent anaerobic digestion. In addition, a large amount of bio-heat can be generated during the pretreatment process to provide heat for the anaerobic digestion process. In this study, composite microorganisms were employed for pretreating corn straw. The impact of different pretreatment times and the heat generated by the pretreatment process on subsequent anaerobic digestion were studied. The results show that the maximum temperature of the pretreatment process was 56.2 °C, obtained on day 6. After 14 days of pretreatment, the degradation rate of the pretreatment group increased by 41% compared with the control group. As a consequence, straws with different pretreatment times were used for anaerobic digestion. The group that underwent 6 days of pretreatment and utilized bio-heat generated from pretreatment achieved the highest cumulative methane production of 401.58 mL/g VS, which was 60.13% higher than in the control group without pretreatment. After 6 days of composite microorganism pretreatment, the group that utilized bio-heat achieved a 29.08% increase in cumulative methane production compared to the group that did not utilize bio-heat. In conclusion, this study highlights the potential of biological pretreatment with composite microorganisms followed by anaerobic digestion using bio-heat as an effective method for treating corn straw. Human–AI collaboration has attracted interest from both scholars and practitioners. However, the relationships in human–AI teamwork have not been fully investigated. This study aims to research the influencing factors of trust in AI teammates and the intention to cooperate with AI teammates. We conducted an empirical study by developing a research model of human–AI collaboration. The model presents the influencing mechanisms of interactive characteristics (i.e., perceived anthropomorphism, perceived rapport, and perceived enjoyment), environmental characteristics (i.e., peer influence and facilitating conditions), and personal characteristics (i.e., self-efficacy) on trust in teammates and cooperative intention. A total of 423 valid surveys were collected to test the research model and hypothesized relationships. The results show that perceived rapport, perceived enjoyment, peer influence, facilitating conditions, and self-efficacy positively affect trust in AI teammates. Moreover, self-efficacy and trust positively relate to the intention to cooperate with AI teammates. This study contributes to the teamwork and human–AI collaboration literature by investigating different antecedents of the trust relationship and cooperative intention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To develop a novel asymmetric nanofiber membrane with antioxidant and antibacterial activities, biocompatible polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) and polycaprolactone (PCL) were used as carriers to load water-soluble tea tree extract (TTE) and hydrophobic tea tree oil (TTO) via electrospinning and electrostatic spraying, respectively, which was named as TTE-PVP-3/TTO-PCL. The results show that uniform TTE-PVP nanofibers with an average diameter of 95 ± 27 nm could be obtained when the mass ratio of TTE to PVP was set as 1:3. Homogeneous TTO/PCL microspheres with an average size of 4.38 ± 0.79 µm could be obtained when the propulsion speed was 0.08 mm/min and the voltage was 10 KV. The activity study showed that TTE could only improve the antioxidant activity of TTE-PVP-3/TTO-PCL, while TTO could improve the antibacterial activity effectively. Under experimental conditions, the inhibition zones of TTE-PVP-3/TTO-PCL against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were 7.50 ± 0.48 mm and 9.55 ± 0.45 mm, respectively, and its scavenging rates for 2,2-diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DHPP) and hydroxyl radical were 59.79 ± 4.10% and 61.02 ± 4.95%, respectively. In conclusions, TTE-PVP-3/TTO PCL can be potentially used as a new kind of anti-oxidative and antibacterial wound dressings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To develop agar derivatives with good antibacterial activity and decreased gelling and melting temperatures, two agar–gentamycin conjugates with 9.20% and 12.68% gentamicin immobilized were fabricated by oxidation, Schiff base and reduction reaction, and characterized by a Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance and an elemental analyzer. It was found that the modifications changed the intermolecular interactions, leading to decreased gelling and melting temperatures for the oxidized agar and slightly increased gelling and melting temperatures for agar–gentamycin conjugates. Further studies of antimicrobial properties showed that the two agar–gentamycin conjugates possessed good antibacterial activity, which was positively correlated with the dosage and the immobilization rate of gentamicin. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of agar–gentamycin conjugates with higher immobilization rates of gentamicin against Escherichia coli were 39.1 μg/mL and 156.2 μg/mL, respectively, and the MICs and MBCs against Staphylococcus aureus were 19.5 μg/mL and 78.1 μg/mL, respectively. A biofilm test indicated that certain concentrations of agar–gentamycin conjugate could effectively inhibit the biofilm formation of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. To explore the application of chitosan-gentamicin conjugate (CS-GT) in inhibiting Vibrio parahaemolyticus ( V. parahaemolyticus ), which is an important pathogen in aquatic animals worldwide, the antimicrobial activity of CS-GT and the effects of a CS-GT dose on the intestine histopathology and intestinal flora of V. parahaemolyticus -infected shrimps were explored. The results showed that CS-GT possessed broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) and half inhibitory concentration (IC 50 ) of 20.00 ± 0.01, 75.00 ± 0.02 and 18.72 ± 3.17 μg/mL for V. parahaemolyticus , respectively. Further scanning electron microscope and cell membrane damage analyses displayed that the electrostatic interaction of CS-GT with cell membrane strengthened after CS grafted GT, resulting in leakage of nucleic acid and electrolytes of V. parahaemolyticus . On the other hand, histopathology investigation indicated that high (100 mg/kg) and medium (50 mg/kg) doses of CS-GT could alleviate the injury of a shrimp's intestine caused by V. parahaemolyticus . Further 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis found high and medium dose of CS-GT could effectively inhabit V. parahaemolyticus invasion and reduce intestinal dysfunction. In conclusion, CS-GT possesses good antibacterial activity and could protect shrimps from pathogenic bacteria infection.
