Since the inception of the novel coronavirus, immense research efforts have been made to understand how several economic indicators, including food security, would be affected. With India racing behind the United States in terms of daily infection rate and being a country with challenging food security issues, it is important to investigate how the presence of the pandemic has influenced the dynamics of food prices in the country. This paper considers seven price series from 167 markets across the five regions in India as well as the growth rate of COVID-19 infection. The paper uses a time-varying autoregressive model to investigate the nonlinear dynamics of food prices in relation to the pandemic in India. The resultant models reveal strong asymmetric properties with shock-inflicted persistence, which appear not to converge over the simulation period. A novel Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak is declared as the international public health emergency concern by the World Health Organization in the month of March 2020. This viral disease invented from China in the month of December 2019 has previously caused havoc around the world, including India. In this paper, efficient mathematical models using Gustafson–Kessel fuzzy clustering approach for the transmission of the COVID-19 are developed by considering the actual reported cases in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The results proved a good concord between the reported data and the estimated data given by the proposed models. Moreover, the developed models are also capable to predict the requirements of beds in hospitals on the month of August 2020 in Tamil Nadu, India. Also, this work suggests strictly implementing/extending the complete lockdown for at least 21 days in the month of August 2020 and immediate separation of infected cases are the positive steps to reduce the spread of novel corona virus in Tamil Nadu state, India. Background To investigate the anti-spike antibody response to vaccination in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) previously infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) as compared with KTRs with no history of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from India. Methods SARS-CoV-2 spike immunoglobulin (Ig) G antibody response was measured in 105 post-COVID-19 KTRs with PCR-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection who received either no vaccination (cohort 1), a single dose (cohort 2) or two doses (cohort 3) of vaccine and compared with 103 two-dose vaccinated COVID-19-naïve KTRs with no history of COVID-19 (cohort 4). Results Out of 103 COVID-19-naïve two-dose vaccinated KTRs, <50% became seropositive with anti-spike antibody titres >50 arbitrary unit/mL subsequent to complete vaccination, the seroconversion rate being comparable in subjects receiving CovishieldTM versus CovaxinTM vaccines. However, the seropositive KTRs vaccinated with CovishieldTM had higher anti-spike antibody titres as compared with those who received CovaxinTM. We observed higher anti-SARS-CoV-2 spike antibody levels in post-COVID-19 KTRs after one dose of vaccine as compared with COVID-19-naïve two-dose vaccinated KTRs. Importantly, the second dose in post-COVID-19 KTRs did not significantly increase anti-spike antibody levels compared with the single-dose recipients. Conclusions Our data present that in KTRs with previous SARS-CoV-2 infection, a single dose of vaccine (CovishieldTM) may be effective in mounting an optimal immune response. In contrast, COVID-19-naïve two-dose vaccinated KTRs respond poorly (<50%) to the current recommendation of a two-dose regimen in India. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction Severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) has led to a terrifying global pandemic. The presentations in neonates are varied with less case severity compared to adults. Aim To describe the clinical and laboratory features and outcomes of neonates admitted with SARS-CoV-2 infection during the second surge of COVID-19 pandemic in a Government Medical College, West Bengal, India. Materials and Methods It is a hospital-based observational cross-sectional study conducted in the newborn unit of Burdwan Medical College and Hospital between 1 April 2021 and 31 July 2021 including all SARS-CoV-2 Real time RT-PCR (Reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction) positive neonates. The demographic, clinical and laboratory characteristics of all the neonates and their outcomes were documented and analysed. Results Twenty-two neonates were found to be SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR positive out of which 9 (40.9%) were found to be asymptomatic and 6 (27.27%) required neonatal intensive care unit admissions. Among the symptomatic neonates, most common presentations were respiratory distress (40.9%) and gastrointestinal manifestations (40.9%). Eight (36.36%) neonates required respiratory support. Three (13.6%) neonates had pneumonia of which one had right middle lobe collapse. Laboratory parameters were nonspecific except for the two (9%) cases of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in neonates. High-resolution computed tomography findings in two cases were suggestive of SARS-CoV-2 infection-induced changes. Two (9%) neonates died of which one was likely due to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Conclusion Neonates with SARS-CoV-2 infection are mostly asymptomatic. However, clinicians must be vigilant as atypical presentations such as consolidation, collapse, meningitis or multisystem inflammatory syndrome may occur. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
