Epibenthic invertebrates in three estuaries of the Mekong River, namely Co Chien, Ba Lai, and Cua Dai, were sampled for ecological analysis in November 2022. The objectives of this research were to provide the first baseline survey of epibenthic communities in the Mekong estuaries and to describe more precisely the relationships between epibenthic characteristics and environmental parameters. In total, seven major taxa, including Bivalvia, Decapoda, Gastropoda, Isopoda, Molpadida, Stomatopoda, and Xiphosura were recorded in this estuarine system. The abundances of the epibenthic invertebrates range from 48 to 176 inds/1000 m2. Decapos always occupy the highest numbers with a percentage ranging from 86‒95%. There are 24 decapod species were recorded in this study with the following as dominant families Palaemonidae, Penaeidae, and Paguridae. Our findings highlight that the diversity of epibenthic communities, particularly for decapods, is notably high; however, the epibenthic density is considerably low. Epibenthic density and diversity were significantly correlated with salinity, TDS, depth, and pH but also other factors may play a role. A phytochemical investigation of Kaempferia champasakensis rhizomes led to the isolation of five new pimarane diterpenes, kaempferiols E–I (1–5). The structures of 1–5 were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic techniques, including HR-ESI–MS, UV, IR, and 1D and 2D NMR. The absolute configurations of 1–3 were determined by the modified Mosher method, and those of 4 and 5 were established by ECD calculations. Further cytotoxic assay for all isolated compounds against three human cancer cell lines, lung cancer (A549), cervical cancer (HeLa), and breast cancer (MCF-7) indicated that 5 showed moderate cytotoxic activities against the three tested cell lines, with IC50 values of 44.78, 25.97, and 41.39 Mμ for A549, HeLa, and MCF-7 cell lines, respectively. The objective of this study was to create a plant-based drink from jackfruit seed. Firstly, jackfruit seed powder was hydrolyzed step by step with 0.2% α-amylase for 60 min and 0.3% glucoamylase for 90 min. The sample then was fermented with Lactiplantibacillus plantarum (L. plantarum) at 37 °C for 15 h. The findings indicated that hydrolysis and lactic acid fermentation enhanced the polyphenol, flavonoid, and antioxidant activity of jackfruit seed drink. Jackfruit seed drink was a favorable matrix for L. plantarum delivery. Moreover, the product underwent fermentation and reached the viability density of L. plantarum of 8.15 Log CFU/mL. The overall sensory liking score was rated between 5 and 5.5/7 points. Throughout the 35 days of storage period at 4–6 °C, the number of L. plantarum uncharged, whereas the bioactive compound and antioxidant activity of the product diminished by nearly 20–50% compared to the sample before storage. This study analyzed the impact of educational, perception, and attitudinal factors on the plastic waste behavior of high school students in Vietnam. A cross-sectional research design and questionnaire survey method were used to collect data from 573 high school students. All the statistical analyses and hypothesis tests were performed using SPSS 26 and AmoS 20 software. Research results show that perception does not directly affect students' behavior toward the plastic waste problem (B = 0.051, p = 0.201 > 0.05, CI = [− 0.027; 0.130]) but has an indirect impact through attitude mediation, with an impact coefficient of B = 0.107 (p = 0.016 < 0.05, CI = [0.042; 0.177]). Educational factors positively impact students' behavior toward plastic waste through both direct effects, with an impact coefficient of B = 0.546 (p = 0.00 < 0.05, CI = [0.473; 0.620], and indirect effects, mediated by attitude, with an impact coefficient of B = 0.017 (p = 0.007 < 0.05, CI = [0.003; 0.037]). These findings are new compared to previous studies, contributing to enriching theories related to behavior toward the plastic waste problem and bringing practical significance to Vietnam. The PRobe far-Infrared Mission for Astrophysics (PRIMA) is working to develop kinetic inductance detectors (KIDs) that can meet the sensitivity targets of a far-infrared spectrometer on a cryogenically cooled space telescope. An important ingredient for achieving high sensitivity is increasing the fractional-frequency responsivity. Here, we present a study of the responsivity of aluminum KIDs fabricated at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Specifically, we model the KID's temporal response to pair-breaking excitations in the framework of the Mattis–Bardeen theory, incorporating quasiparticle recombination dynamics and the pair-breaking efficiency. Using a near-IR laser, we measure time-resolved photon pulses and fit them to our model, extracting the time-resolved quasiparticle density and the quasiparticle recombination lifetime. Comparing the fit to the known energy of the laser provides a measurement of the pair-breaking efficiency. In addition to photon-sourced excitations, it is important to understand the KID's response to phonon-sourced excitations from cosmic rays. We measure the rate of secondary cosmic rays detected by our devices and predict the dead time due to cosmic rays for an array in L2 orbit. Aims: The objective of this study is to assess the effectiveness of the combined middle and inferior meatal antrostomy (MIMA) in management of patients with maxillary fungal sinusitis. Material and Methods: Design: retrospective cross sectional study. Setting and subjects: From September 2018 to March 2021, fifty-five patients with non-invasive maxillary fungal sinusitis, who underwent transnasal endoscopic combined MIMA. Methods: The study compared patients' pre- and post-operative subjective symptoms, including nasal obstruction, discharge, facial pain or pressure, halitosis, anosmia, and other non-specific symptoms. Endoscopic characteristics of recurrent fungal maxillary sinusitis and postoperative complications were also observed. Closure of the IMA site was evaluated at three and six months post-surgery and patients were categorized into three groups based on closure degree. Results: All clinical symptoms, including nasal discharge, nasal obstruction, nasal pruritus, anosmia, halitosis, sneezing, facial pain, ophthalmic and otologic symptoms, were resolved over six months after combined MIMA in majority of cases (94 − 100%). After three and six months, the postoperative endoscopic evaluation revealed recurrent fungal maxillary sinusitis in 1.8% and 5.4% of cases, respectively. Partial stenosis of the inferior antrostomy was observed in 7.2% and 16% of cases, while complete stenosis was noted in 3.6% and 7.2% of cases after three months and six months. Alcohol drinking has long been reported to be common in people living with HIV/AIDS, having biological and behavioral impacts on the transmission, progression, and prevention of HIV/AIDS. A total of 7059 eligible articles and reviews published in English from 1990 to 2019 were extracted from the WOS. Results show an increase in publication volume, while citations peak for papers published in 2006. Content analysis reveals a wide-ranging coverage of topics, with the most popular being effects of alcohol consumption on ART adherence and outcomes, alcohol-related sexual behaviors, TB co-infection, and psycho–socio-cultural considerations in examining and designing measures targeting alcohol use and interventions to reduce alcohol dependence in PLWHA. This calls for more active engagement of governments in research and in designing and implementing interventions, as well as collaborations and knowledge transfer from high-income countries to developing counterparts, to effectively address alcohol use-related issues in PLWHA, moving toward the HIV/AIDS eradication target. Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) can cause severe acute respiratory infection (ARI). We aimed to clarify the clinical and molecular epidemiological features of hMPV. We conducted an ARI surveillance targeting hospitalized children aged 1 month to 14 years in Nha Trang, Vietnam. Nasopharyngeal swabs were tested for respiratory viruses with PCR. We described the clinical characteristics of hMPV patients in comparison with those with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and those with neither RSV nor hMPV, and among different hMPV genotypes. Among 8822 patients, 278 (3.2%) were hMPV positive, with a median age of 21.0 months (interquartile range: 12.7–32.5). Among single virus-positive patients, hMPV cases were older than patients with RSV (p < 0.001) and without RSV (p = 0.003). The proportions of clinical pneumonia and wheezing in hMPV patients resembled those in RSV patients but were higher than in non-RSV non-hMPV patients. Seventy percent (n = 195) were genotyped (A2b: n = 40, 20.5%; A2c: n = 99, 50.8%; B1: n = 37, 19%; and B2: n = 19, 9.7%). The wheezing frequency was higher in A2b patients (76.7%) than in those with other genotypes (p = 0.033). In conclusion, we found a moderate variation in clinical features among hMPV patients with various genotypes. No seasonality was observed, and the multiple genotype co-circulation was evident. This study investigates the impact of the integration of sustainability criteria in executive remuneration on corporate sustainability performance (CSP). The paper tests the pooled OLS models on a cross-country sample comprising 279 firms from 19 European Union countries and the United Kingdom under the period from 2014 to 2018. The results suggest that there is a significant positive impact of sustainability-related executive remuneration on CSP. Furthermore, there is no significant statistical evidence for the moderating impact of the sustainability committee on the relationship between sustainability-related contracting and CSP. Moreover, the results reveal that the moderating effects of official CSR disclosure and external assurance for sustainability reports are significantly negative. We suggest that regulators and practitioners promote the integration of sustainability targets in executive remuneration to improve CSP and review the quality of sustainability reporting systems. This study aims to develop a green and efficient method for synthesizing antimicrobial amino-functionalized microcrystalline celluloses from cotton fibers. Microcrystalline cellulose was prepared by acid hydrolyzing of cellulose. Tosyl cellulose was synthesized by tosylation of cellulose in an eco-friendly medium using NaOH/urea and decyl glucoside surfactant with DSTs of 0.51. Three amino-functionalized cellulose derivatives were synthesized by nucleophilic substitution reaction of tosyl cellulose with 3-aminopropyltrimethoylsilane, ethylenediamine, and triethylenetetramine. The physicochemical properties of investigated celluloses were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis-differential scanning calorimetry. Microcrystalline cellulose with high crystallinity index (81.90%) and crystalline size of 0.30 nm was isolated from cotton fibers. After the dissolution and chemical modification, the crystalline form of cellulose was transformed from cellulose I to amorphous cellulose II. The thermal degradation of aminated cellulose was around 260 °C. The amino cellulose exhibited high inhibition activity against S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, and E. coli with MIC values less than 5 mg mL–1. The chemical modification of surface cellulose could deliver antimicrobial cellulosic materials with potential applications for air and water treatments or as ingredients in the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries. Soil factors, especially metal elements in the soil, play a significant role in forming and accumulating secondary metabolites, which determine the medicinal properties of medicinal herbs. In this study, the concentrations of some metal elements (K, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, and Cr) in Cam Mountain and Tinh Bien Town, An Giang Province, Vietnam, were determined using the XRF method. We simultaneously determined the total phenolic and flavonoid content of some medicinal herbs collected from the collected soil sample areas, thereby assessing the influence of these elements on the formation of secondary metabolites in medicinal plants. The results showed that K, Mn, and Cr were mainly concentrated in the topsoil and transition layers; Fe and Cu elements tended to concentrate in the transition layer and the subsoil when surveying the soil profile. K, Mn, Cu, and Cr concentrations were more focused in Tinh Bien area, while Fe and Zn had higher concentrations at Cam Mountain. Additionally, results from evaluating the relationship between the content of the elements in the soil and the content of two active compounds also showed the correlation regression model between Zn and flavonoid expression by level 4 at the 5% significance level. Single-molecule localization microscopy techniques are emerging as vital tools to unravel the nanoscale world of living cells by understanding the spatiotemporal organization of protein clusters at the nanometer scale. Current analyses define spatial nanoclusters based on detections but neglect important temporal information such as cluster lifetime and recurrence in "hotspots" on the plasma membrane. Spatial indexing is widely used in video games to detect interactions between moving geometric objects. Here, we use the R-tree spatial indexing algorithm to determine the overlap of the bounding boxes of individual molecular trajectories to establish membership in nanoclusters. Extending the spatial indexing into the time dimension allows the resolution of spatial nanoclusters into multiple spatiotemporal clusters. Using spatiotemporal indexing, we found that syntaxin1a and Munc18-1 molecules transiently cluster in hotspots, offering insights into the dynamics of neuroexocytosis. Nanoscale spatiotemporal indexing clustering (NASTIC) has been implemented as a free and open-source Python graphic user interface. Fish-borne trematodes (FiBT) are an important group of zoonotic parasites negatively affecting human health, mainly in Asia. Most studies on FiBT have applied a cross-sectional design, which provides weaker evidence on potential risk factors for transmission than a cohort study. This cohort study aimed to estimate the incidence and identify associated risk factors for FiBT infection in Vietnam. Between April 2018 and May 2019, two communes in Yen Bai province, a highly endemic area for FiBT, were visited for sampling. Participants with a negative stool result for FiBT at baseline, were invited for follow-up and data collection, at months 4, 9, and 13. Stools were examined using Kato-Katz and formalin-ethyl acetate concentration techniques to detect FiBT eggs, whereas a questionnaire was used for interviewing participants to determine the risk factors for FiBT infection during each follow-up period. The incidence risk and the incidence rate were calculated, and univariate and multivariable models were run to identify the risk factors for FiBT. A total of 194 people, negative for FiBT eggs at the baseline survey, were invited to participate in the study, and 111 people agreed to enroll in the follow-up. The incidence risk at months 4, 9, and 13 was 9.0%, 6.4%, and 5.1%, respectively. We finally used data from 95 participants for the risk factor analysis, excluding 16 people lost for the follow-up. Overall, 20 people became infected with FiBT (IR = 21.1%). The incidence rate of FiBT infection was 21.4/100 person-year. In the univariate analysis, consumption of raw fish was the main risk factor (RR = 4.59, 95%CI = 1.95–10.82), followed by being male (RR = 3.41, 95%CI = 1.56–7.45) and drinking alcohol (RR = 3.25, 95%CI = 1.49–7.11). In the multivariable analysis, only consumption of raw-fish dishes was significantly associated with FiBT infection. The people who consumed raw fish were 3.44 (95%CI = 1.11–10.70) times more at risk of infection with FiBT as compared to individuals who did not consume raw fish. It can be concluded that the FiBT incidence is high in the study area. More awareness campaigns are needed to stop eating raw fish in these areas to reduce FBT infection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The model and the theory of nonlinear deformation for BCC substitutional and interstitial ternary alloy are built on the basis of the statistical moment method. Numerical calculations are performed for Fe, FeSi and FeCrSi in the range of temperature from 0 to 500 K, in the range of pressure from 0 to 9.8 GPa, in the range of interstitial atom concentration from 0 to 5% and in the range of substitutional atom concentration from 0 to 10%. The maximum real stress and the elastic deformation limit both decrease with increasing the interstitial atom concentration, increase with increasing the substitutional atom concentration and increase with increasing the temperature. The maximum real stress increases and the elastic deformation limit decreases when the pressure increases. Some calculated results on nonlinear deformation of Fe obtained by SMM have been compared with the experimental data and have some very good concordance. Porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED) virus (PEDV) is a highly contagious virus. PED was first identified in 2008 and has greatly affected the Vietnamese pig production economy. The aim of this study was to investigate the epidemiological and genetic characteristics of PEDV in piglet herds in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. Diarrheal stool and intestinal samples from 2262 piglets from 191 herds in five provinces were collected to test for the presence of PEDV. Ten PEDV strains were randomly selected for sequencing, and four genes encoding PEDV structural proteins were analyzed. The rates of herds and samples positive for PEDV were 27.23% and 27.72%, respectively. In positive herds, the morbidity and mortality of PEDV-positive piglets were 97.97% and 79.06%, respectively, with most of the infected piglets under 7 days of age. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the 10 PEDV strains from this study clustered with genotype G2 strains from Vietnam and neighboring countries. Many amino acid substitutions were identified in important antigenic regions in the spike protein of the 10 strains when compared to four PEDV vaccine strains. This study provides novel insights into the epidemiology and genetic diversity of circulating PEDV strains, which could facilitate the development of an appropriate and proactive strategy for controlling PED. The determination of the number of mixture components (the order) of a finite mixture model has been an enduring problem in statistical inference. We prove that the closed testing principle leads to a sequential testing procedure (STP) that allows for confidence statements to be made regarding the order of a finite mixture model. We construct finite sample tests, via data splitting and data swapping, for use in the STP, and we prove that such tests are consistent against fixed alternatives. Simulation studies and real data examples are used to demonstrate the performance of the finite sample tests-based STP, yielding practical recommendations of their use as confidence estimators in combination with point estimates such as the Akaike information or Bayesian information criteria. In addition, we demonstrate that a modification of the STP yields a method that consistently selects the order of a finite mixture model, in the asymptotic sense. Lung cancer is one of the leading cancers and causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Due to its high prevalence and mortality rate, its clinical management remains a significant challenge. Previously, the in vitro anticancer activity of Aspiletrein A, a steroid and a saponin from Aspidistra letreae, against non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells was reported. However, the anticancer molecular mechanism of other Aspiletreins from A. letreae remains unknown. Using in silico network pharmacology approaches, the targets of Aspiletreins were predicted using the Swiss Target Prediction database. In addition, key mediators in NSCLC were obtained from the Genetic databases. The compound-target interacting networks were constructed using the STRING database and Cytoscape, uncovering potential targets, including STAT3, VEGFA, HSP90AA1, FGF2, and IL2. Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis demonstrated that several pathways were highly relevant to cancer pathogenesis. Additionally, molecular docking and molecular dynamic analyses revealed the interaction between key identified targets and Aspiletreins, including hydrogen bonding and Van der Waals interaction. This study provides potential targets of Aspiletreins in NSCLC, and its approach of integrating network pharmacology, bioinformatics, and molecular docking is a powerful tool for investigating the mechanism of new drug targets on a specific disease. In this paper, TiO2 and Ag-doped TiO2 photocatalysts were coated on the cylindrical cordierite honeycomb monolith (CHM) to evaluate their photocatalytic disinfection against Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria under artificial sunlight irradiation. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns showed a single-phase anatase structure for TiO2 samples calcined at 500 °C for 2 h. With the presence of Ag, the bandgap of TiO2 becomes narrower, and the absorption edge shifts toward the visible region. 6 mol% Ag-doped TiO2 (6Ag-T) showed a reduction of bandgap energy to 2.2 eV. TiO2 and Ag-doped TiO2 solutions were prepared and coated on the channels' surface of CHM for antibacterial applications. Although monolithic TiO2 caused a slight decrease in the number of alive E. coli, Ag dopant showed significant improvement in antibacterial properties. 6 mol% Ag-doped TiO2 coated on CHM (6Ag-T/S10/M) showed strong antibacterial effectiveness against E. coli that the bacterial cell concentration dropped to zero after 1 h of exposure. Impressively, reusability tests with these materials showed superior performance, where the antibacterial remains unchanged after five or seven successive operation cycles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, we proposed a straightforward electrospun polycaprolactone (PCL) loaded with silver nanoparticles (SNPs) membrane fabrication process, in which SNPs were directly synthesized from silver nitrate (AgNO3) in PCL–acetone mixture by gamma irradiation. The insolubility of AgNO3 in PCL solution was solved using an auxiliary dimethyl sulfoxide solvent. As a physical approach, gamma rays readily converted silver ions into SNPs without the addition of harmful reduction agents, which reduced the cytotoxicity of the synthesized material. By avoiding some processes such as purification, solvent removal, or redispersion of SNPs, this method was more time-saving compared to other related studies. SNPs formation was confirmed by both UV–Visible spectrum (UV–Vis) and X-ray diffraction analysis. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed that the addition of SNPs significantly reduced the fiber diameter of PCL–Ag membranes compared to that of raw PCL. Uniform spherical-shaped SNPs incorporated in PCL fibers were observed under transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The tensile test showed that the electrospun PCL–Ag membranes exhibited good mechanical characteristics. Moisture easily penetrated the porous microstructure of PCL–Ag, facilitating wound humidity regulation. Inductively coupled plasma-mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS) was employed to study the release profiles of SNPs at different time intervals. Overall, the PCL–Ag 500 ppm sample exerted excellent antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus strains and low in vitro cytotoxicity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Vietnam has high rates of antibiotic use and resistance. Measuring resistance in commensal bacteria could provide an objective indicator for evaluating the impact of interventions to reduce antibiotic use and resistance. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and bacterial recovery for different sampling strategies. We conducted a cross-sectional mixed methods study in a rural community in Ha Nam Province, northern Vietnam, and collected structured interviews, samples, and in-depth interviews from households. Out of 389 households invited, 324 participated (83%), representing 1502 individuals. Samples were collected from these individuals (1498 stool, 1002 self-administered nasal swabs, and 496 HW-administered nasopharyngeal swabs). Pneumococci were recovered from 11.1% (128/1149) of the total population and 26.2% (48/183) of those under 5-years. Recovery was higher for health-worker (HW)-administered swabs (13.7%, 48/350) than self-administered swabs (10.0%, 80/799) (OR 2.06, 95% CI 1.07–3.96). Cost per swab was cheaper for self-administered ($7.26) than HW-administered ($8.63) swabs, but the overall cost for 100 positive samples was higher ($7260 and $6300 respectively). Qualitative interviews revealed that HW-administered nasopharyngeal swabs took longer to collect, caused more discomfort, and were more difficult to take from children. Factors affecting participation included sense of contribution, perceived trade-offs between benefits and effort, and peer influence. Reluctance was related to stool sampling and negative perceptions of research. This study provides important evidence for planning community-based carriage studies, including cost, logistics, and acceptability. Self-administered swabs had lower recovery, and though cheaper and quicker, this would translate to higher costs for large population-based studies. This study introduces a metric to measure the influence of users and communities on Social Media Networks. The proposed method is a combination of Knowledge Graph and Deep Learning approaches. Particularly, an effective Knowledge Graph is built to represent the interaction activities of users. Besides, an unsupervised deep learning model based on Variational Graph Autoencoder is also constructed to further learn and explore the behavior of users. This model is inspired by conventional Graph Convolutional layers. It is not only able to learn the attribute of users themselves but also enhanced to automatically extract and learn from the relationships among users. The model is robust to unseen data and takes no labeling effort. To ensure the state of the art and fashionable for this work, the dataset is collected by a designed crawling system. The experiments show significant performance and promising results which are competitive and outperforms some well-known Graph-convolutional-based. The proposed approach is applied to build a management system for an influencer marketing campaign, called ADVO system. The ADVO system can detect emerging influencers for a determined brand to run its campaign, and help the brand to manage its campaign. The proposed method is already applied in practice. African swine fever (ASF) is a dangerous infectious disease of domestic pigs and wild boar caused by African swine fever virus (ASFV). In Vietnam, the ASF epidemic is gradually turning into an endemic status with several recovered pigs post infection, but there were not many studies evaluating the role of these pigs in the epidemiological context in Vietnam. The aim of this study was to evaluate the viral antigen distribution and lesions in recovered pigs post ASFV infection. Ten pigs recovered from ASF at 6 weeks of age were monitored and assessed for anti-ASFV antibodies and viremia until slaughter. The five major organs (lung, liver, spleen, kidney, and lymph nodes) of these pigs were evaluated for microscopic lesions and viral antigen distribution. Anti-ASFV antibody was consistently observed to be high (S/P% ≥ 80) until slaughter, while viremia levels were very high (7 log10 copies/mL) at 6 weeks of age and gradually decreased to undetectable levels at 12 weeks of age (6th week post-infection). At slaughter, the ASFV-associated lesions in the organs of these pigs were mild and nonspecific. Seven out of ten pigs recovering from ASF still carried the virus in surveyed organ tissues, although not in the serum. These findings suggest that ASF-recovered pigs may be potential carriers of the virus, contributing to the increased complexity in the current endemic status in Vietnam. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A key ingredient in approximate Bayesian computation (ABC) procedures is the choice of a discrepancy that describes how different the simulated and observed data are, often based on a set of summary statistics when the data cannot be compared directly. Unless discrepancies and summaries are available from experts or prior knowledge, which seldom occurs, they have to be chosen, and thus their choice can affect the quality of approximations. The choice between discrepancies is an active research topic, which has mainly considered data discrepancies requiring samples of observations or distances between summary statistics. In this work, we introduce a preliminary learning step in which surrogate posteriors are built from finite Gaussian mixtures using an inverse regression approach. These surrogate posteriors are then used in place of summary statistics and compared using metrics between distributions in place of data discrepancies. Two such metrics are investigated: a standard L 2 distance and an optimal transport-based distance. The whole procedure can be seen as an extension of the semi-automatic ABC framework to a functional summary statistics setting and can also be used as an alternative to sample-based approaches. The resulting ABC quasi-posterior distribution is shown to converge to the true one, under standard conditions. Performance is illustrated on both synthetic and real data sets, where it is shown that our approach is particularly useful when the posterior is multimodal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article presents a dataset of service design skills which service design experts value as important requirements for design team members. Purposive sampling and a chain referral approach were used to recruit appropriate experts to conduct questionnaire-based research. Using the analytical hierarchy process (AHP), pairwise skills-rating questionnaires were designed to elicit the experts' responses. The resulting dataset was processed using AHP algorithms programmed in R programming language. The transparent data and available codes of the research may be reused by design practitioners and researchers for replication and further analysis. Background: The transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy by vestibular approach (TOETVA) has been developed for early-stage thyroid cancer treatment as well as benign thyroid nodules worldwide including Viet Nam, with low rate of complications and excellent results. However, there has not been any comprehensive studies with a large number of patients and long-term follow-up in our country. Therefore, we conducted this study to evaluate the results of treatment by TOETVA for benign and malignant lesions of thyroid gland in Viet Nam. Methods: A prospective study was performed on 326 eligible patients who underwent TOETVA due to thyroid cancer and benign thyroid nodules in Department of Oncology and Palliative Care, Hanoi Medical University Hospital from July 2018 to April 2021. The clinical, surgical, and pathological characteristics, postoperative complications, and visual analog scale (VAS, 0–10 cm) score in day 1, 4, and 7 after surgery, long-term oncological and surgical outcomes were recorded. Results: The mean age was 36.9 ± 9.8 years. 231 patients (70.9%) were diagnosed with differentiated cancer and 95 patients (29.1%) were diagnosed benign tumors of thyroid gland. In the cancer group, 12 patients (5.2%) undergone TOETVA had T3b-intraoperative-stage diagnosis, 219 patients (92.2%) were diagnosed T1 according to AJCC 8th. After 1 month of surgery, among thyroid cancer patients, there was no abnormality reported by thyroid scintigraphy and neck ultrasound as well as in unstimulated-Tg and anti-Tg values. The mean number lymph-node dissected in the cancer group was 6.1 ± 4.1 (range 0–21 nodes). However, only 2.6 ± 1.8 metastasis nodes were discovered (range 1–8 nodes), and the maximum size of these nodes was less than 2 mm. 81 patients presented occult lymph-node metastasis among thyroid cancer patients with cN0 stage (account for 35%). The occult lymph-node metastasis was 34.2% and 50% in patients diagnosed with T1 and T3b groups, respectively. The median postoperative hospital stay was 5.4 ± 0.7 days. Postoperatively, transient hypoparathyroidism was recorded in 12 patients (4.8%), transient hoarse was noted in 9 patients (3.6%), and numb chin was identified in 7 patients (2.8%). No permanent complication was noted. VAS score on first postoperative day was 4.5 ± 0.8. Median follow-up time was 12 (3–25) months. No recurrence was recorded. Conclusions: TOETVA is an innovative and revolutionary technique in the treatment of benign thyroid nodules, as well as early-stage differentiated thyroid cancer. This study aims to clarify the bioactive constituents responsible for the anti-dementia effects of Ocimum sanctum Linn. ethanolic extract (OS) using olfactory bulbectomized (OBX) mice, an animal model of dementia. The effects of OS or its extract further fractionated with n-hexane (OS-H), ethyl acetate (OS-E), and n-butanol (OS-B) on the spatial cognitive deficits of OBX mice were elucidated by the modified Y-maze tests. The effects of the major constituents of the most active OS fraction were also elucidated using the reference drug donepezil. The administration of OS and OS-E ameliorated the spatial cognitive deficits caused by OBX, whereas OS-H or OS-B had no effect. Two major constituents, ursolic acid (URO) and oleanolic acid (OLE), and three minor constituents were isolated from OS-E. URO (6 and 12 mg/kg) and OLE (24 mg/kg) attenuated the OBX-induced cognitive deficits. URO (6 mg/kg) and donepezil reversed the OBX-induced down-regulation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and choline acetyltransferase expression levels in the hippocampus. URO inhibited the ex vivo activity of acetylcholinesterase with similar efficacy to donepezil. URO inhibited the in vitro activity of acetylcholinesterase (IC50 = 106.5 μM), while the effects of OS, OS-E, and other isolated compounds were negligible. These findings suggest that URO and OLE are responsible for the anti-dementia action of OS extract, whereas URO possesses a more potent anti-dementia effect than its isomer OLE. Conventional open thyroidectomy remains the standard treatment of surgery for benign thyroid tumors but leaves a permanent scar in the neck. We conducted this study to compare the surgical outcomes of transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA) versus conventional open thyroidectomy (COT), and thence analyze the safety and viability of this approach. Seventy-eight patients who had undergone either COT or TOETVA from 2020 to 2021 in our institution to treat benign thyroid tumors were prospectively studied. Outcomes between the two groups were analyzed, including time of operation, blood loss, hospital stay, postoperative complications, and level of satisfaction. A total of 78 patients, in which TOETVA was applied to 47 patients and COT thyroid surgery was applied to 31 patients, participated in this study. COT has a shorter operative time (59.8 ± 10.8 min versus 102.3 ± 34.9 min, p <.001). TOETVA is less painful postoperatively (visual analog scale score on day 4 of 1.1 ± 1.2 versus 1.8 ± 0.7, p <.001). There were no significant differences between TOETVA and COT groups regarding incidences of transient recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) injury (10.6% and 6.5%, respectively, p =.697) and both transient and permanent hypoparathyroidism (8.5% versus 3.5%, p =.644 with transient and 0% versus 6.7%, p =.166 with permanent). Other complications were comparable between two arms such as bleeding, seroma, and infection. At 3 months after surgery, the TOETVA group had the significantly higher proportion of the very satisfied level than the COT group (80.9% versus 35.4%, p <.001). TOETVA in patients with favorable features is a safe, viable alternative to open thyroidectomy regarding postoperative outcomes and provide higher satisfaction after surgery in the long term.
