The aim of this paper is to help writers at all levels improve their likelihood of success in having papers accepted by academic peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Interprofessional Care. We discuss the importance of reading both in your own discipline and also more widely across disciplines and fields of study. There are sections on the attributes of good authors, how to choose a journal, types of articles that are published and the structure of these, the contrast between research and evaluation, and how to plan a paper. We stress the importance of reading and complying with a journal's author guidelines and answering the 'so what' question by the end of the article. There is more detail about the main elements of a paper and what should be included in the introduction, methods, results (findings) and discussion to improve the quality of the reporting. As well as content we also focus on the style of writing. We finish with a discussion of the submission and review processes, why papers may be rejected and how to manage decisions on papers. Dissemination of scholarly work is paramount to the advancement of the interprofessional field; we invite authors to consider our advice and in so doing help strengthen the quality and rigor of interprofessional scholarship. This paper examines a new first-year EAP course in a Hong Kong university. It utilizes teacher and student reflections to understand the course's strengths and weaknesses, aiming to enhance its design and delivery. The study employed a qualitative approach whereby textual analysis was used to interpret the data collected in the form of written teacher reflections, written student reflections, and notes of teacher reflective dialogue. The thematic categories for coding the data were established based on the course's main learning outcomes: Effective Learning, Spoken Language, and Written Language. Findings reveal that teachers were more critical of the course compared to learners. Teachers expressed dissatisfaction with the pedagogical approach to Effective Learning unit, insufficient time provided in the course to teach solo speaking, and the inability to cover too many organizational and linguistic features in the writing unit. Students, however, did not have much to reflect on about Effective Learning, had mixed views about Spoken Language with some worried about reading from notes, and wrote extremely positively about their learning of Written Language. Nonetheless, their views provide valuable insights for course improvement. This paper investigates the impact of the LEGO® Serious Play simulation technique on accounting students' learning outcomes. Data is from a stratified random sample of undergraduate accounting students at a leading higher education institution in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) emerging market. This paper uses parametric statistical analysis techniques to test the study hypothesis. The empirical findings indicate significant differences between LEGO® Serious Play simulation and traditional learning techniques on students' learning outcomes. More specifically, the use of LEGO® Serious Play simulation significantly improves accounting students' higher-level learning outcomes, such as Analysis skills. In comparison, the traditional teaching technique attains a significant positive impact on accounting students' lower-level learning outcomes such as Knowledge and Application skills. The Comprehension learning skills showed no significant difference between the two teaching methods. This paper highlights the importance of alternative instructional approaches to enhance accounting students' learning outcomes and support accounting educators teaching activities. Owing to its cost-efficiency, 24-hour home care is increasing and represents a cornerstone in the care of elder people in Austria. A software solution to support 24-hour caregivers in their daily routine was developed facilitating a user-centered design process. It includes electronic documentation, an e-learning platform, emergency management, and a communication tool. To evaluate the usability and acceptance of the developed software solution, a qualitative survey including focus groups (FG), a group interview (GI), and a usability walkthrough (UW) were conducted. This paper describes the findings of the qualitative survey which indicate that the e-learning platform as well as the e-documentation support 24-hour caregivers in their daily work with their clients. Participants with less technical affinity needed support to use the tool proficiently. 24-hour caregivers appreciate the fact that the solution unites all the needed information in one place. The application of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education in solving real-world problems is challenging. To tackle this challenge, a project-based learning approach that integrates robots with cost-effective self-made toys to problem-solving was adopted to assist rural primary school students to apply STEM skills. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of the project-based learning approach which includes lecturing and hands-on activities on primary school students' STEM learning outcomes and attitudes. An experiment was conducted with 25 primary school students who voluntarily participated in a STEM summer-camp programme. Students were asked to assemble a paper house equipped with an IoT control module and LED light switches, and write and edit robot scripts to produce a robot-based storytelling narrative using the paper house they made as a context. The results show that the project-based learning approach was an effective approach for cultivating primary school students' STEM knowledge and skills as evidenced from the post-written test. The relationships between the students' STEM learning outcomes and attitudes were also confirmed by a clustering analysis. Students who had higher learning attitudes also achieved higher STEM learning outcomes; the findings are also supported by the feedback from the open-ended questionnaire items. This study suggests that integrating low-cost self-made toys and robots in project-based learning activities is an effective and practical approach to enhance primary school students' learning outcomes and learning attitudes in STEM education. Within the new feedback paradigm, the concept of student and teacher feedback literacy is gaining more and more attention, with most studies focussing on what it entails and how it can be supported by design. This paper contributes to this, by focussing on what students can do with feedback information. It proposes an instructional model for student feedback processes with the student activities seeking-, making sense of-, using- and responding to feedback information and specific prompts all four activities. Following Vygotsky, the model is built on the premise that effective feedback processes take place in social interaction with a more knowledgeable peer in the Zone of Proximal Development. In doing so, this is the first paper that addresses what students can do to contribute to scaffolded learning from feedback. The instructional model can be used by students to process feedback information and can be used by teachers to scaffold students' feedback processes. So, it is intended to support both student and teacher feedback literacy and their interplay. Future studies need to empirically validate the effectiveness of this instructional model. This paper proposes an equilibrium optimiser of interswarm interactive learning strategy to plan the shortest flight path of drones. This paper divide the population into a learning swarm and a learned swarm. When the global best fitness value does not change in consecutive k generations, interswarm interactive learning behaviour is triggered. In addition, this paper also proposes a global optimal disturbance strategy to improve the exploitation capability of particles and balances exploration and exploitation by introducing linearly decreasing inertia weights. ePosters (electronic Posters), a modification of traditional paper-based posters have gained popularity in medical education conferences since 2011. ePoster in educational settings differs from the traditional poster in that it allows the ePoster creator to focus on the learning process rather than reporting scientific outcomes. However, there is limited literature comparing ePosters to traditional paper-based posters and their impact on the student learning experience. ePosters as an assessment tool are well suited for online learning. This article presents twelve tips for using ePosters as an active learning strategy in classrooms and describes how to incorporate ePosters as a formative and summative assessment tool in health professions education, at all levels. Learning that "career" was not a definite sign in Irish Sign Language (ISL) and that "Career Guidance" was poorly understood by the Deaf community prompted a systematic literature review (SLR). An uncomfortable truth relating to Career Guidance emerged – "Inclusion" is not where we presume it to be at. This paper presents the results of the SLR and shares how the answers from a thematic analysis can – through a Universal Design (UD), and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) (Rose & Meyer, 2002) lens – guide developments for inclusive Career Guidance. The core aim of physical education initial teacher training in England is to prepare associate teachers to become creative, inspiring, and highly skilled practitioners who will contribute to the teaching and development of the subject. School-based mentors play a critical role in this process, and an appreciation of their impact has raised the importance of understanding the nuanced way they work with associate teachers in school. This paper uses the framework of monologic and dialogic mentoring to identify and analyze effective mentoring practices. Despite the apparent centrality of supervision to the effectiveness of social work practice, this topic remains largely under researched. The majority of studies to date have relied on self-reporting mechanisms to understand 'what happens' in supervision, with few accessing supervision directly, and none, to the writer's knowledge, attempting to analyse the impact of unconscious processes. This paper aims to contribute to this gap in the knowledge base by analysing the conscious and unconscious processes at play in two cohorts of systemic group supervision held in UK children's services, and how such processes, alongside the leadership styles of the supervisors, impacted on the nature of supervision practice. A psychoanalytically informed research methodology is employed to study the group supervision sessions, and the subsequent data analysed through a thematic analysis. This paper employs Bion's model of thought outlined in Learning from Experience to explore how each group developed its own unique ability to think in light of its capacity to contain anxiety. Goat raising has increased in Lao People's Democratic Republic due to meat demand from Vietnam. Goat production is low input using free grazing and minimal husbandry. Technical constraints are well known but socio-cultural contexts are poorly understood. This paper describes qualitative research on farmer's motivations, experiences and learning pathways, to improve goat husbandry. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 30 smallholder goat farmers in Lao's South-Central province of Savannakhet. The interviews revealed that farmers relied on their experiences and observations of goat raising in their communities to make their management decisions. Trial and error was a valued learning strategy. Farmers took guidance from the exchange of goat raising experiences with other goat farmers and preferred participatory learning that fostered discussion in familiar village settings. Lao smallholder goat farming systems are a product of compromise across a number of resources. Project interventions that required low investments of labour, land or capital were most readily implemented and adapted by farmers. This study questions the assumption that project interventions are inherently optimal and beneficial for smallholder farming systems. Recommendations propose how farmer's experiences, constraints and preferences can be incorporated into development approaches to ensure management system changes reflect the desires of smallholder farmers. Online activities have spiked due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including language learning activities. As the world is aging, this affects senior citizens too. Yet, few studies have been conducted studying online (language) learning in this age-group. Moreover, no concrete pointers exist on how to go about such an online language learning course. This paper examines what should be considered when designing and implementing online language learning courses for seniors. To that end we present data from 73 senior language learners from two independent language learning contexts: the Netherlands and Scotland. The data were collected between May 2020 and August 2021. Data includes spoken and written samples from lessons, focus groups, interviews and questionnaires. Given the qualitative nature of the data and the aim of identifying patterns of meaning across the respective datasets, a reflexive thematic analysis (TA) approach was adopted. We employed an inductive approach to coding, using both semantic (explicit or overt) and latent (implicit, underlying) coding frameworks, in order to inform two overarching themes: "Navigating the digital highway" and "Camera ready for new friends." The important role of technological learning in the success of enterprises, especially in developing countries, is undeniable. Besides that, the complex nature of learning requires a comprehensive framework. So, developing countries need to have a learning strategy that can help them to increase learning through collaboration. In this research, a mixed method study, after reviewing the literature and previous research, the theoretical framework of the research was extracted and the protocol for the interview was formed. Then the dimensions and factors of technological learning were derived from interviews with managers and experts who were in the Iranian oil agreement writing and document reviewing teams. To form the framework presented in this study, it is necessary for developing countries to implement a transition from the control and prescription phase to the incentive and technology support phase. Motivational regulation can also lead to better results in industry. The results of this paper show that the realization of technological learning in the oil industry of developing countries depends on increasing the absorptive capacity of domestic enterprises as well as governments creating the necessary infrastructure. Museum-based learning activities provide interactive and innovative ways to integrate the arts and humanities into medical education. Like other museum-based activities, the Group Poem supports the development of multiple clinically relevant skills and attributes, such as observation, communication, perspective-taking, empathy, and implicit bias awareness. In this paper, we present a step-by-step guide for educators seeking to design and implement a museum-based Group Poem activity for medical learners. The overall 'task' of the activity is for learners to collectively create a poem that they perform for others, a process that participants find to be engaging and meaningful to their formation as physicians. In this paper, we provide specific directions on pre-selecting the works of art, preparing the supplies, dividing into small groups, providing iterative instructions to learners, managing the timing of the session, and debriefing the activity. Although designed to be experienced in an art museum, we note that the Group Poem activity can also be conducted in the classroom or virtually using photographic or digital reproductions of artwork. The paper describes active learning strategies used in undergraduate college algebra and business calculus courses. There are a variety of active learning strategies described in the literature. We wanted to implement a few that together, satisfy the key characteristics of active learning strategies. The active learning strategies described in this paper are, interactive presentation style, group-work with discussion and feedback, volunteer presentations of solutions by groups, raise students' learning interest towards specific topics, involve students in mathematical explorations, experiments, and projects, and last but not least, continuous motivation and engagement of students. We analyse the relationship between the average results of 27 college algebra and business calculus sections and the effects of the level of use of these active learning strategies. If feedback is to be conducted effectively, then there needs to be clarity about what is involved and what is necessary for teachers to be able to undertake it well. While much attention has recently been devoted to student feedback literacy, less has been given to what is required of teaching staff in their various roles in feedback processes. This paper seeks to elucidate teacher feedback literacy through an analysis of the accounts of those who do feedback well. An inductive analysis was undertaken of conversations about feedback with 62 university teachers from five Australian universities using a dataset of transcripts of interviews and focus groups from two earlier research studies. Through an iterative process a teacher feedback literacy competency framework was developed which represents the competencies required of university teachers able to design and enact effective feedback processes. The paper discusses the different competencies required of those with different levels of responsibility, from overall course design to commenting on students' work. Interprofessional simulation-based education (IP-SBE) supports the acquisition of interprofessional collaborative competencies. Psychologically safe environments are necessary to address socio-historical hierarchies and coercive practices that may occur in IP-SBE, facilitating fuller student participation. A scoping review was conducted to understand the barriers and enablers of psychological safety within IP-SBE. Research papers were eligible if they included two or more undergraduate and/or post-graduate students in health/social care qualifications/degrees and discussed barriers and/or enablers of psychological safety within simulation-based education. Sources of evidence included experimental, quasi-experimental, analytical observational, descriptive observational, qualitative, and mixed-methodological peer-reviewed studies. English or English-translated articles, published after January 1, 1990, were included. Data were extracted by two members of the research team. Extraction conflicts were resolved by the principal investigators. In total, 1,653 studies were screened; 1,527 did not meet inclusion criteria. After a full-text review, 99 additional articles were excluded; 27 studies were analyzed. Psychological safety enablers include prebriefing-debriefing by trained facilitators, no-blame culture, and structured evidenced-based simulation designs. Hierarchy among/between professions, fear of making mistakes, and uncertainty were considered barriers. Recognition of barriers and enablers of psychological safety in IP-SBE is an important first step towards creating strategies that support the full participation of students in their acquisition of IPC competencies. Group opinion often has an important influence on the development and decision-making of major events. However, there are existing two problems with group opinion: (1) As opinions evolve, group opinion may diverge sharply, which is not conducive to obtaining final decision opinion. (2) The evolution of opinions can also cause serious systemic biases in group, which can lead to a final decision that is far from the truth. Hence, this paper deeply investigates two important strategies of consensus boost and opinion guidance in opinion management. Meantime, considering the urgency of some decision-making problems, such as major public crisis events, opinion management process is also subject to time constraint. In this paper, we firstly formalize the minimum adjustment cost consensus boost and opinion guidance with time constraint as Markov decision process because of the intersection and evolution rule of opinions described by opinion dynamics holds Markov property. In this case, the minimum adjustment cost can improve the efficiency of opinion management. We further propose consensus boost algorithm and opinion guidance algorithm based on deep reinforcement learning, which availably mirrors human learning by exploring and receiving feedback from opinion dynamics. Then, by combining the above-mentioned algorithms, we design a new opinion management framework with deep reinforcement learning (OMFDRL). Finally, through comparison experiments, we verify the advantages of our proposed OMFDRL, which can provide managers with more flexible usage conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this systematic review was to investigate the learning, social, and psychological outcomes of students with moderate, severe, and complex disabilities (MSCD) in inclusive settings. The review discusses barriers to conducting rigorous research in this field. Whilst an initial literature search located 1,338 records, only 18 were finally included due to the eligibility criteria. Studies were placed in categories based on the topics investigated. Regarding learning outcomes of students with MSCD, findings were moderately in favour of school inclusion for both academic achievement and adaptive skills. Regarding social outcomes, results showed that inclusive settings offer more access to instructional time and peer interaction, although they reported marginalisation during class activities and social isolation within the peer group. Finally, in terms of psychological outcomes, inclusive settings appeared to reduce the frequency of challenging behaviours. The paper also addresses conceptual barriers regarding the definition of inclusion and its consequences on research and practice as well as research design barriers resulting from the quality of research in this field. In this paper, I explore Fook's model of 'Critical Reflection on Practice' and how discomfort and vulnerability can become an impediment to authentic critical reflection and transformational learning. This paper is written from my perspective, as an emerging social worker to uncover how the integration of Boler's 'pedagogy of discomfort' and practices of self-compassion into Fook's model of critical reflection can heighten awareness, deepen reflective possibilities, and create more flexible selves. Including a 'pedagogy of discomfort' into critical reflection can serve to guide practitioners and students through the vulnerable process of uncovering cognitive, affective, and habitual patterns linked to dominant ideologies and hegemonic forces. The inclusion of self-compassionate teachings into the model of critical reflection better equips practitioners and students with tools to withstand the emotional labour that results from discomfort and reflection. Emergency situations such as pandemics typically widen inequities, and Australian children and young people with disability already face significant inequities in the education system. In this paper we draw on survey data from over 700 respondents exploring education experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many families reported being left behind, finding it difficult to access education remotely, and that this was having a significant impact on wellbeing and mental health. We find that of all support offered by schools, social supports have a stronger association with learner engagement than educational interventions. This finding indicates the importance of social and emotional supports in learning. The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly disrupted education for most learners; There is good evidence to suggest this impact is felt more keenly by students with disability, because there is disability discrimination in the Australian education system; This paper reports survey responses from over 700 families of students with disability exploring the impact of COVID-19 on education; Many families report being left behind and that students found it difficult to learn away from the school campus, which for many students and families led to poorer wellbeing and mental health; Our results suggest that supporting students to have social contact with peers made the biggest impact on students with disability feeling engaged with learning during this time. This shows it is important for teachers and schools to pay attention to social as well as educational aspects of school life when thinking about how to educate students with disability. This paper discusses the extent to which collaborative peer observation of teaching (POT) as a process for teacher professional development could enhance collegiality and collaboration among academics. A single case study was conducted to investigate academics' perceptions of their POT experience in the Vietnamese context. Purposive sampling was applied to select eleven academics at a university. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with individual participants and inductively thematically analysed. The findings show that reciprocal POT and collaborative discourse were perceived to nurture collegiality and collaboration between peers and facilitate their reflection and learning about teaching. Eight participants reported that POT made their peer relationships develop to a collegial relationship due to mutual trust and respect. However, there existed concerns in the peer relationship perceived by three other academics who did not develop collegiality. These findings suggest that to promote academics' willingness and quality engagement in POT, it is necessary to allow academics to decide on the peer dynamics that work for them. It is also crucial to develop a supportive, constructive, and collegial culture whereby academics value POT as a scholarship of teaching. Care delivery in neonatology is dependent on an interprofessional team. Collaborative learning and education amongst professionals can lead to successful management of critically ill patients. This focused BEME review synthesized the components, outcomes, and impact of such interprofessional education (IPE) programs in neonatal medicine. The authors systematically searched four online databases and hand-searched MedEdPublish up to 10 September 2020. Two authors independently screened titles, abstracts, full-texts, performed data extraction and risk of bias assessment related to study methodology and reporting. Discrepancies were resolved by a third author. We reported our findings based on BEME guidance and the STORIES (STructured apprOach to the Reporting in health education of Evidence Synthesis) statement. We included 17 studies on IPE in neonatal medicine. Most studies were from North America with varying learners, objectives, instruction, and observed outcomes. Learners represented nurses, respiratory therapists, neonatal nurse practitioners, patient care technicians, parents, early interventionists, physicians, and medical trainees amongst others. Risk of bias assessment in reporting revealed poor reporting of resources and instructor training. Bias assessment for study methodology noted moderate quality evidence with validity evidence as the weakest domain. IPE instruction strategies included simulation with debriefing, didactics, and online instruction. Most studies reported level 1 Kirkpatrick outcomes (76%) and few reported level 3 or 4 outcomes (23%). Challenges include buy-in from leadership and the negative influence of hierarchy amongst learners. This review highlights IPE program components within neonatal medicine and exemplary practices including a multimodal instructional approach, asynchronous instruction, an emphasis on teamwork, and elimination of hierarchy amongst learners. We identified a lack of reporting on program development and instructor training. Future work should address long term knowledge and skill retention and impact on patient outcomes and organizations. AbstractComputer simulations have become essential for analyzing complex systems, but high-fidelity simulations often come with significant computational costs. To tackle this challenge, multi-fidelity computer experiments have emerged as a promising approach that leverages both low-fidelity and high-fidelity simulations, enhancing both the accuracy and efficiency of the analysis. In this paper, we introduce a new and flexible statistical model, the Recursive Non-Additive (RNA) emulator, that integrates the data from multi-fidelity computer experiments. Unlike conventional multi-fidelity emulation approaches that rely on an additive auto-regressive structure, the proposed RNA emulator recursively captures the relationships between multi-fidelity data using Gaussian process priors without making the additive assumption, allowing the model to accommodate more complex data patterns. Importantly, we derive the posterior predictive mean and variance of the emulator, which can be efficiently computed in a closed-form manner, leading to significant improvements in computational efficiency. Additionally, based on this emulator, we introduce four active learning strategies that optimize the balance between accuracy and simulation costs to guide the selection of the fidelity level and input locations for the next simulation run. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in a suite of synthetic examples and a real-world problem. An R package RNAmf for the proposed methodology is provided on CRAN. The globally disruptive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on both healthcare systems and health profession education has created an opportunity for a reassessment of methods for delivering interprofessional practice education (IPE). A good candidate for consideration is Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes). Its unique combination of structural design in connecting specialist and community-based clinical sites, foundational education theories, and didactic and case-based learning methods present an innovative and promising new method of promoting both interprofessional and interorganizational collaboration. This paper first provides a description of Project ECHO, its major features, recent expansion during the pandemic, and IPE-related research history. Second, the educational concepts and theories underlying its use and their implications for interprofessional and interorganizational collaboration are reviewed. These include community of practice and single and double-loop learning. Third, the expression of these concepts in how key elements of ECHO are utilized – including the didactic presentation; the case study presentation, discussion, and tele-mentoring; and the power of community and tele-networking – will be explored. Strategies of outside air reduction, fan speed adjustments, and temporary system shutdowns can be effective ways to maintain or improve the preservation quality of a collection environment while reducing the financial burden and carbon footprint of a collecting institution. However, current criteria guiding safe implementation of energy-saving strategies focus on temperature and RH alone, which ignores risks posed by pollutants. This research aims to address this by monitoring indoor and outdoor-generated pollutants at four collecting institutions before and during implementing energy-saving strategies. Alongside temperature and RH loggers, continuous pollution monitors were located within the mechanical system and collection spaces. Additionally, energy monitors were installed on the mechanical systems serving the collection spaces to quantify the energy consumption prior to and during operation modifications. Initial results indicate pollutant levels remain stable during the test periods, and did not exceed baseline concentrations. This empirical paper provides an experiential account of learning from self-help books by the teachers of the management stream from the Indian context. The current environment is posing new and unprecedented challenges to academicians, management teachers being one of them. Self-help books have for centuries helped readers to deal with such challenges. Hence, this exploratory study, using the narration method, has inquired through qualitative interviews with management teachers about their personal experiences of reading self-help books. The paper presents a framework for school guidance in the twenty-first century that focuses the guidance approach, on promoting lifelong learning and takes into account the impact of VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity). People with disabilities have an inviolable right to equitable access and participation in tertiary education and support systems are known to be indispensable in making this right a reality. This article presents the voices of students with disabilities regarding aspects that influence their successful access and participation in tertiary education in Ghana. A qualitative approach was adopted for the study with data collected through interviews with 12 students with disabilities in three public universities. From the perspective of these students, successful inclusion of people with disabilities in tertiary education in Ghana is influenced by enrolment practices, the built environment, teaching and learning approaches, and assessment provisions. The context influenced provisions and support provided. Attitudes of the university community and lack of knowledge of inclusive practices such as Universal Design play a role in students' access and participation. Comprehensive awareness-raising on disability and inclusive practices is recommended to address this issue. This paper explores inclusion practices in three Ghanaian public universities focussing on the combined voices of students with disabilities. The context of the three universities influences the provisions and support available for people with disabilities. The students with disabilities involved in the study reported that access to the university environment and support for academic engagement impact their university experience. The attitude of the university community is a factor in ensuring access, participation and success of people with disabilities in higher education. Creating awareness of disability issues within the university community is pivotal in building and sustaining inclusive culture. The objective of the ASPIRE award programme of the International Association for Health Professions Education is to go beyond traditional accreditation processes. Working in partnership with the ASPIRE Academy, the programme aims to encourage and support excellence in health professions education, in part by showcasing and exemplifying best practices. Each year ASPIRE award applications received from institutions across the globe describe their greatest achievements in a variety of areas, one of which is curriculum development, where evaluation of applications is carried out using a framework of six domains. These are described in this paper as key elements of excellence, specifically, Organisational Structure and Curriculum Management; Underlying Educational Strategy; Content Specification and Pedagogy; Teaching and Learning Methods and Environment; Assessment, Monitoring and Evaluation; Scholarship. Increasing focus worldwide on accountability and quality assurance in universities has forced senior management to develop policies to address academic support at institutional-level. One such area is the mathematical and statistical skills that students in many disciplines need to succeed. In common with many countries, large numbers of students at English universities arrive inadequately prepared for their courses' quantitative demands. University-wide mathematics and statistics support provision has been developed to mitigate this problem. We explore such provision from the perspective of institutional accountability and quality assurance, researching the extent to which such support is referenced in institutionally-written regulatory documents. The documents reveal that mathematics and statistics support is stated as contributing to retention, achievement, employability and widening participation. The paper closes with implications and recommendations drawn from the analysis of these documents and therefore is of relevance to those responsible for development and implementation of institutional teaching and learning strategies. There is a growing need for psychologists with specialized training in geriatric mental health competencies. The Geriatric Scholars Program for Psychologists (GSP-P) was created to address this shortage within a large integrated healthcare system. In 2019, GSP-P piloted an advanced workshop designed to enhance expertise in geriatric mental health competencies among graduates of its foundational competencies core course. The workshop included 3.5 days of expert-led seminars regarding the biopsychosocial needs of older adults with chronic medical illness and was followed by completion of an individualized learning plan. This paper describes the evaluation of the course using a mixed methods with data collected prior to the workshop, immediately post-workshop, and six months post-workshop. Results indicated enthusiasm for the workshop, significant improvements in four geropsychology domains on the Pikes Peak Geropsychology Knowledge and Skill Assessment Tool, and benefit from completion of the independent learning plans. Our findings demonstrate that continued enhancement of geropsychology competencies through advanced coursework is feasible and improves knowledge and skill, particularly when combined with individualized learning plans. This discussion paper gives an overview of an innovative online distance learning pre-registration BSc (Hons) Children and Young People's nursing program underpinned by Enquiry-Based Learning pedagogy. Whilst the program is delivered to all four fields of practice (Adult, Children and Young People, Learning Disability, and Mental Health), in all four nations of the UK (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland), the focus here is Children and Young People's nursing. Nurse education programs are delivered in accordance with the Standards for Nurse Education developed by the professional nursing body in the UK. This online distance learning curriculum uses a life-course perspective for all fields of nursing. Students develop the general knowledge and skills to care for all people across the life course but as the program progresses, they learn how to care for people within their own field of practice in greater depth. The educational context of the Children and Young People's nursing program highlights that the use of Enquiry-Based Learning can help address some of the challenges faced by Children and Young People's nursing students. A critical evaluation of Enquiry-Based Learning and its use within the curriculum concludes that Enquiry-Based Learning provides Children and Young People's nursing students with the graduate attributes of being able to communicate with infants, children, young people, and their families, adopt critical thinking to clinical settings and have an ability to find, generate, or synthesize their own knowledge in order to lead and manage evidence-based quality care for infants, children, young people, and their families in a variety of care settings and within interprofessional teams. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected education at all levels in various ways. This paper provides a review of the literature on the challenges of online learning for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). In total, 17 studies from nine countries were analysed. The challenges of online learning for children with SEND reported by teachers and parents and the strategies applied to overcome the challenges were identified. The challenges of online learning were the need of parental support, routine change, inequities of resources and access to technology, lack of accommodations, and social isolation. There was a considerable lack of interventions aimed at promoting the educational outcomes of children with SEND. The findings emphasise the importance of parent-teacher collaboration and communication. Suggestions for strategies to address challenges as well as for further research are also discussed. In this paper, a novel multidisciplinary design optimisation (MDO) algorithm is proposed, which is named as the decomposition-based switching multi-objective whale optimiser (SMWO/D). In particular, a penalty-Tchebycheff value-based decomposition framework is designed to decouple the strongly correlated conflicting objectives, so as to give comprehensive considerations to different disciplinary demands. To overcome the shortcoming of premature in the complicated multi-modal non-linear decision space, two adaptively switchable evolutionary modes are defined to enhance the ability of escaping from local optimum and promote a thorough global search with rich learning strategies. The proposed SMWO/D is evaluated on a series of benchmark functions, and the results show its competitiveness in terms of comprehensive performance as compared with other four popular decomposition-based multi-objective optimisation algorithms (MOAs). In addition, sensitivity analysis is carried out to determine the best parameter configuration of SMWO/D. Finally, in a case study of a real-world turbine disk structural optimisation, the practicality of the proposed SMWO/D is validated, which can effectively handle the multidisciplinary property of this complicated problem, thereby providing valuable experiences in the aero-engine MDO domain. Last year, 2022, marked the 50th anniversary of the Rescorla-Wagner learning equations – a landmark in the development of learning theory. Originally based on animal learning, the equations and error-driven learning models as a whole were rapidly adopted and applied in several areas of human psychology. While language acquisition research initially took a different path, interest in the role of error-driven learning in language is growing. With the aim of strengthening this emerging research field, sparking discussion and cross-fertilisation of ideas across linguistics, psychology and cognate fields, this Special Issue presents nine papers that address the role of error-driven learning in language. The papers investigate a wide range of subfields of linguistics, and include two review articles, in addition to computational modelling and experimental research. Deep neural networks have outstanding performance as data-driven solutions for hyperspectral image classification for ground object detection. Among these, convolutional models outperform other strategies for their back-propagated local-filtering mechanisms. However, convolutional models lack the support of intuitive details learning and squeezed weighted distribution. These solutions have constraints of exploring only within convolution space. To alleviate these issues, in this paper, a multi-domain kernel network has been proposed leveraging a dynamic attention mechanism in order to harvest spectral-spatial domain information from multiple receptive regions. The Dynamic Kernel Network uses various kernel strategies to gather maximum spectral-spatial features for high-performance classification. Experimental results on the real hyperspectral images explicate the validity of the proposed dynamic kernel network. The proposed framework outperforms the base methods and attained 97.225%, 99.385% & 99.922% overall accuracy (OA) on Indian Pines (IP), University of Pavia (UP) & Salinas Valley (SV) datasets, respectively. The current complex scenario of medication use calls for the implementation of interprofessional education (IPE) initiatives focused on shared decision making (SDM) in drug therapy. A scoping review was conducted to collate, summarize, and report the evidence available on IPE teaching and learning approaches in this context, involving pre-licensure healthcare students. Searches were conducted in seven electronic databases, with 21 articles meeting the inclusion criteria. This review examines educational strategies employed for interprofessional SDM as well as characteristics of students, teachers, and tutors involved in IPE interventions. The reviewed studies lack detailed description of the students' decision-making process, and none addresses aspects related to patient preferences as a part of learning outcomes. We identified shortcomings in how IPE interventions are assessed and reported. Only a few of the studies explicitly describe the use of competency-based frameworks proposed by national and international organizations, and less than 60% describe learning outcomes. The absence of experiences focused on interprofessional SDM in drug therapy suggests a gap that needs to be addressed with future studies evaluated in a robust way. The challenge-point framework as a model for thinking about motor learning was first proposed in 2004. Although it has been well-cited, surprisingly this framework has not made its way into much of the applied sport science literature. One of the reasons for this omission is that the original framework had not been encapsulated into a paper accessible for sports practitioners. The framework had mostly a theoretical focus, providing a mechanistic summary of motor learning research. Our aims in this paper were to explain and elaborate on the challenge point framework to present an applied framework guiding practice design. We connect the framework to other theories that involve predictive coding, where information is attended when it disconfirms current predictions, providing a strong signal for learning. We also consider how two new dimensions (learners' motivation and practice specificity) need to be considered when designing practice settings. By moving around the different dimensions of functional difficulty, motivation, and specificity, coaches can optimize practice to achieve different learning goals. Specifically, we present three general "types" of practice: practice to learn, to transfer to competition, and to maintain current skills. In coming decades, healthcare providers will treat a greater number of individuals living with Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias than ever. Simulation-based learning provides experiential learning opportunities to enhance clinical training, but little is known about how dementia simulation training improves understanding of dementia or how it changes in participants' ability to deliver high-quality healthcare to individuals living with dementia. In this study, we examine how a simulation training program may prepare healthcare trainees to treat individuals living with dementia. We conducted eight in-depth, one-on-one interviews with healthcare trainees who participated in the Virtual Dementia Tour (VDT) program and faculty who added VDT to their curricula, and also examined 20 reflection papers from students following participation in VDT. A thematic analysis of qualitative data led us to three themes: 1) dementia simulation complements and enhances traditional teaching methods, 2) dementia simulation helps students to understand the experiences of people living with dementia, and 3) experiential learning inspired students to reflect on actions they would take as clinicians and leaders to support individuals living with dementia and their families. This paper introduces the smart classroom learning model based on the concept of ambient intelligence. By analyzing a smart classroom, the ambient intelligence system detects a student and determines their level of fatigue based on the data about their previous daily academic activities. This information is then used to assign the student the appropriate learning strategy. The paper describes relevant factors for developing the model. The model was tested on a sample of 80 students. By analyzing the information available through ambient intelligence, it was possible to utilize the smart classroom to provide students with the adequate learning strategy in accordance with the criteria compatible with the expected leaning outcomes. Unplanned design iterations are considered one of the reasons for the high failure rate of new product development (NPD) projects. Generally, organisations employ 'proactive risk management' (PRM) and 'reactive fast learning' (RFL) to manage unplanned design iterations. This paper aims to explore how organisations employ PRM and RFL approaches to manage unplanned design iterations in the NPD process. To that end, a cross-sectional interview study was conducted in eight organisations. The interview transcripts were analysed as a primary data source using thematic qualitative text analysis technique. For PRM approach, results demonstrate that the design teams were more active in risk monitoring in the design phase as compared to risk identification in the concept development phase. Generally, design teams reduced the likelihood of unplanned design iteration risks by employing learning methods in addition to risk mitigation strategies. For RFL approach, results reveal that organisations lacked a structured approach to select suitable learning methods for fast resolution of unplanned design iterations and to convert new knowledge into organisational learning. We conclude that PRM is more established as compared to RFL in managing unplanned design iterations. Effective teaching of concepts related to human computer interaction (HCI) requires introduction of the core paradigms as well as the design and evaluation methodologies to the learners. In this paper, we investigate the learning effectiveness of a tool-mediated learning activity to support instruction of established human performance models, namely the Keystroke Level Model (KLM) and Fitts' law, and their application in web form design practice. The tool, named Keystroke Level Model Form Analyser (KLM-FA), supports learning through exploration by providing step-by-step tracing of the KLM modelling for any web form filling task. KLM-FA can be used in modelling exercises of either online or offline web forms according to different interaction strategies or users' characteristics. Three pretest-posttest studies involving 52 students in total enrolled in computer science curricula with different education delivery methods (campus-based, blended learning, distance learning) and levels (undergraduate, postgraduate) provide evidence for the effectiveness of the proposed learning activity. In all three studies, it was found that the KLM-FA activity had a significant positive effect on students' learning gain. In addition, students rated their perceived educational experience and KLM-FA usability as rather high. This paper describes an example of collaborative course development, in which occupational therapy faculty members designed a two-course sequence for teaching content related to occupational therapy with children and youth. They used a backward course design approach and performance-based learning objectives to create alignment between Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) standards, course assignments and instructional content. The authors present examples from their course design, along with evidence-based resources to guide educators working on developing new courses or revising existing courses. Medical shadowing helps provide clinical exposure to aspiring and current medical students, mainly at the college level. This paper makes a case for making medical shadowing opportunities more widely available for high school students. Through the perspective of a high school student who got such an opportunity, we demonstrate that high school students can gain valuable clinical knowledge and exposure to the ethics involved in patient care, inspiring them to explore further pathways that will help them make better-informed academic and career choices. This high school student provides pointers on preparing for medical shadowing encounters through background research and developing a note-taking template. We also offer early-career and experienced physicians' perspectives on how providing medical shadowing opportunities to high school students benefits practicing physicians by energizing their motivation, reaffirming their commitment to the profession, and gaining a fresh perspective on their work. We believe that medical shadowing for high school students can open channels to attract and motivate a young and diverse talent pool to the medical profession that will help mitigate the projected shortfall of physicians in the next decade.
