Forest soil and leaf litter support diverse arthropod mesofauna for which diversity dynamics is challenging to study due to the high number of species and specimens, small body size and limited taxonomic knowledge.Immature stages (larvae) are even harder to identify than adults, as their morphology is largely unknown. Therefore, larvae are often ignored, even though they may form a substantial proportion of specimens collected, are less mobile than adults and their exclusion may provide an incomplete diversity profile.Here, we use Oxford Nanopore DNA barcoding to investigate whether the inclusion of larvae provides a more complete taxonomic, phylogenetic and functional diversity profiles in leaf litter beetles (Coleoptera) from a subtropical forest in Taiwan.Our results indicate that larvae represent up to 38% of beetle specimens per sample, but most of them belong to 2–3 common species. Larvae of most beetle species are rarely collected repeatedly or in multiple specimens, possibly due to special habitat requirements or high seasonality.Taxonomic, phylogenetic and incidence‐based functional diversity measures were not affected by the exclusion of larvae in the Staphylinidae dataset but were strongly biased in all‐beetle dataset, especially when only common or abundant species were considered. Taxonomic beta diversity was not affected by the omission of larvae.Our results indicate that immature stages may be omitted in ecological studies of arthropods in case both adults and larvae co‐occur in the same habitat, and the sites are sampled repeatedly. Caution is needed (1) in groups in which larvae and adults do not inhabit the same environment or strongly differ in biology, (2) when rare species are omitted or (3) when functional diversity is calculated from abundance data. SUMMARY: Male sterility provides an efficient approach for commercial exploitation of heterosis. Despite more than 20 genic male sterile (GMS) mutants documented in pepper (Capsicum annuum L.), only two causal genes have been successfully identified. Here, a novel spontaneous recessive GMS mutant, designated msc‐3, is identified and characterized at both phenotypic and histological levels. Pollen abortion of msc‐3 mutant may be due to the delayed tapetum degradation, leading to the non‐degeneration of tetrads callosic wall. Then, a modified MutMap method and molecular marker linkage analysis were employed to fine mapping the msc‐3 locus, which was delimited to the ~139.91‐kb region harboring 10 annotated genes. Gene expression and structure variation analyses indicate the Capana10g000198, encoding a R2R3‐MYB transcription factor, is the best candidate gene for the msc‐3 locus. Expression profiling analysis shows the Capana10g000198 is an anther‐specific gene, and a 163‐bp insertion in the Capana10g000198 is highly correlated with the male sterile (MS) phenotype. Additionally, downregulation of Capana10g000198 in male fertile plants through virus‐induced gene silencing resulted in male sterility. Finally, possible regulatory relationships of the msc‐3 gene with the other two reported pepper GMS genes, msc‐1 and msc‐2, have been studied, and comparative transcriptome analysis reveals the expression of 16 GMS homologs are significantly downregulated in the MS anthers. Overall, our results reveal that Capana10g000198 is the causal gene underlying the msc‐3 locus, providing important theoretical clues and basis for further in‐depth study on the regulatory mechanisms of pollen development in pepper. Significance Statement: In this study, a novel pepper genic male sterile mutant and the causal gene were identified, and the regulatory mechanism for complex fertility development was preliminarily studied. Objective: The present study aims to investigate the effectiveness, recurrence, and adverse reaction rates of isotope phosphorus‐32 dressings combined with diprospan and mucopolysaccharide polysulphate cream in the treatment of keloids. Methods: A total of 80 patients with keloids admitted to the Dermatology Clinic of the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University between June 2019 and June 2021 were included in the present study and randomly divided into three groups: Control Group 1 (n = 27), Control Group 2 (n = 25), and the treatment group (n = 28). Patients in Control Group 1 were treated with diprospan combined with mucopolysaccharide polysulphate cream, patients in Control Group 2 were treated with an isotopic phosphorus‐32 dressing combined with mucopolysaccharide polysulphate cream, and patients in the treatment group were treated with an isotopic phosphorus‐32 dressing combined with diprospan and mucopolysaccharide polysulphate cream. The effectiveness, recurrence, and adverse reaction rates were observed in all three groups. Results: The treatment group had the most significant decrease in the itching scores. The respective effectiveness, recurrence, and adverse reaction rates were 81.4%, 43.6%, and 74.1% in Control Group 1; 56%, 38.7%, and 64% in Control Group 2; and 96.7%, 11.2%, and 41% in the treatment group. The differences were statistically significant (p < 0.05). Conclusion: An isotope phosphorus‐32 dressing combined with diprospan and mucopolysaccharide polysulphate cream keloid treatment delivers a fast onset, good effectiveness, and low recurrence and adverse effect rates. The Cucujiformia, with remarkable morphological, ecological, and behavioral diversity, is the most evolutionarily successful group within Coleoptera. However, the phylogenetic relationships among superfamilies within Cucujiformia remain elusive. To address the issues, we conducted a transcriptome‐based macro‐evolutionary study of this lineage. We sequenced the genomes and transcriptomes of three species from the superfamily Curculionoidea (two from Curculionidae and one from Brentidae), and obtained a data set of more than 569 990 amino acid alignments from 143 species of Cucujiformia. With the most complete collection of whole genomes and transcriptomes so far, we compared the performance of different data matrices with universal‐single‐copy orthologs (USCO). The resultant trees based on different data sets were consistent for the majority of deep nodes. Two USCO amino acid matrices (i.e., USCO75 and USCO750‐abs80) provided well‐resolved topology. The analyses confirm that Cucujoidea sensu Robertson et al. 2015 is a nonmonophyletic group, consisting of Erotyloidea, Nitiduloidea, and Cucujoidea sensu Cai et al. 2022. Moreover, Erotyloidea is the early‐diverging group, followed by the clade Nitiduloidea. The preferred topologies supported a “basal” split of Coccinelloidea from the remaining superfamilies, and Cleroidea formed the second splitting group. The following phylogeny was supported at the superfamily level in Cucujiformia: (Coccinelloidea, (Cleroidea, ((Lymexyloidea, Tenebrionoidea), (Erotyloidea, (Nitiduloidea, (Cucujoidea, (Chrysomeloidea, Curculionoidea))))))). Our comprehensive analyses recovered well‐resolved higher‐level phylogenetic relationships within the Cucujiformia, providing a stable framework for comprehending its evolutionary history. Deep learning‐based image registration (DLIR) has been widely developed, but it remains challenging in perceiving small and large deformations. Besides, the effectiveness of the DLIR methods was also rarely validated on the downstream tasks. In the study, a multi‐scale complexity‐aware registration network (MSCAReg‐Net) was proposed by devising a complexity‐aware technique to facilitate DLIR under a single‐resolution framework. Specifically, the complexity‐aware technique devised a multi‐scale complexity‐aware module (MSCA‐Module) to perceive deformations with distinct complexities, and employed a feature calibration module (FC‐Module) and a feature aggregation module (FA‐Module) to facilitate the MSCA‐Module by generating more distinguishable deformation features. Experimental results demonstrated the superiority of the proposed MSCAReg‐Net over the existing methods in terms of registration accuracy. Besides, other than the indices of Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) and percentage of voxels with non‐positive Jacobian determinant (|Jϕ|≤0$| {{J_\phi }} | \le 0$), a comprehensive evaluation of the registration performance was performed by applying this method on a downstream task of multi‐atlas hippocampus segmentation (MAHS). Experimental results demonstrated that this method contributed to a better hippocampus segmentation over other DLIR methods, and a comparable segmentation performance with the leading SyN method. Background: To identify the mutational spectrum in a Chinese cohort with congenital cataracts. Methods: Probands (n = 164) with congenital cataracts and their affected or unaffected available family members were recruited for clinical examinations and panel‐based next‐generation sequencing, then classified into a cohort for further mutational analysis. Results: After recruitment (n = 442; 228 males and 214 females), 49.32% (218/442) of subjects received a clinical diagnosis of congenital cataracts, and 56.88% (124/218) of patients received a molecular diagnosis. Eighty‐four distinct variants distributed among 43 different genes, including 42 previously reported variants and 42 novel variants, were detected, and 49 gene variants were causally associated with patient phenotypes; 27.37% of variants (23/84) were commonly detected in PAX6, GJA8 and CRYGD, and the three genes covered 33.06% of cases (41/124) with molecular diagnosis. The majority of genes were classified as genes involved in nonsyndromic congenital cataracts (19/43, 44.19%) and were responsible for 56.45% of cases (70/124). The majority of functional and nucleotide changes were missense variants (53/84, 63.10%) and substitution variants (74/84, 88.10%), respectively. Nine de novo variants were identified. The research on rechargeable aqueous Zinc(Zn)‐ion batteries has expanded exponentially. However, the performance of Zn anodes during cycling and their commercial application is restricted by severe corrosion and dendritic formation. In this study, a facile approach is presented to address these challenges by introducing minute quantities of Zr(NO3)4 into the 3 m ZnSO4 electrolyte. The Zr(NO3)4 additive facilitates the creation of a protective layer comprising spatial gradient oxidation alloy (GOA) particles. The insulating zirconium‐based materials provide the necessary potential gradient to induce the Zn plate under the covering film. As a proof of concept, the in situ GOA coating anode exhibits exceptional cycling stability for 8000 cycles and an ultralow hysteresis voltage of 41 mV at current density of 5 mA cm−2. Furthermore, Density Functional Theory analyses reveal that the GOA coating anode homogenizes the electric field surrounding the Zn anode surface providing abundant zincophilic sites for Zn nucleation compared to bare Zn plates. This ensures uniform Zn deposition, preventing dendritic growth. In addition, the in situ characterization and computation of Gibbs free energy (ΔGH*) reveal that the GOA coating anode may effectively suppress the hydrogen evolution reaction. Three‐dimensional (3D) self‐supported Ge anode is one of the promising candidates to replace the traditional graphite anode material for high‐performance binder‐free lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs). The enlarged surface area and the shortened ions/electrons transporting distance of the 3D electrode would greatly facilitate the rapid transfer of abundant lithium ions during cycling, thus achieve enhanced energy and power density during cycling. Cycle stability of the 3D self‐supported Ge electrode would be improved due to the obtained enough space could effectively accommodate the large volume expansion of the Ge anode. In this review, we first describe the electrochemical properties and Li ions storage mechanism of Ge anode. Moreover, the recent advances in the 3D self‐supported Ge anode architectures design are majorly illustrated and discussed. Challenges and prospects of the 3D self‐supported Ge electrode are finally provided, which shed light on ways to design more reliable 3D Ge‐based electrodes in energy storage systems. The titer of anti‐severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) neutralizing antibodies (NAbs) in the human body is an essential reference for evaluating the acquired protective immunity and resistance to SARS‐CoV‐2 infection. In this study, a fluorescence‐quenching lateral flow immunoassay (FQ‐LFIA) is established for quantitative detection of anti‐SARS‐CoV‐2 NAbs in the sera of individuals who are vaccinated or infected within 10 min. The ultrabright aggregation‐induced emission properties encapsulated in nanoparticles, AIE490NP, are applied in the established FQ‐LFIA with gold nanoparticles to achieve a fluorescence "turn‐on" competitive immunoassay. Under optimized conditions, the FQ‐LFIA quantitatively detected 103 positive and 50 negative human serum samples with a limit of detection (LoD) of 1.29 IU mL−1. A strong correlation is present with the conventional pseudovirus‐based virus neutralization test (R2 = 0.9796, P < 0.0001). In contrast, the traditional LFIA with a "turn‐off" mode can only achieve a LoD of 11.06 IU mL−1. The FQ‐LFIA showed excellent sensitivity to anti‐SARS‐CoV‐2 NAbs. The intra‐ and inter‐assay precisions of the established method are below 15%. The established FQ‐LFIA has promising potential as a rapid and quantitative method for detecting anti‐SARS‐CoV‐2 NAbs. High temperature and drought are common environmental stresses that desert plants must withstand to grow and reproduce. In order to understand the resistance mechanisms of the desert plant Atraphaxis bracteata (A. Los) responding to natural high temperature and drought conditions, we combined physiological characteristics, transcriptome, and metabolome analysis to explore its responses in three different plant ages and CK. The results showed that most physiological indicators of A. bracteata increased with the age, except for SOD activity. There were 4 698, 7 594, and 8 485 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and 119, 124, 188 differential expressed metabolites (DAMs) in the 3‐age‐old (T1), 5‐age‐old (T2) and 15‐age‐old (T3) plants compared to the CK, respectively. These DEGs were mainly enriched in plant hormone signal transduction, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, AMPK signalling pathway, flavonoid biosynthesis, circadian rhythm‐plant pathways, glycine, serine, and threonine metabolism pathways. At the same time, the enriched DAMs were mainly involved in the aminoacyl‐tRNA biosynthesis pathway, arginine and proline metabolism pathway, flavonoid biosynthesis, and others. In addition, most DEGs involved in flavonoid biosynthesis, photosynthesis and plant hormones closely associated with abiotic stress were down‐regulated, and which numbers increased with age. Moreover, a higher number of DEGs and DAMs accumulated with age, which may be the key factor for the age‐dependent resistance of A. bracteata to abiotic stress. Therefore, these results could provide a way to better understand the stress resistance mechanism and provide a reference for further exploitation and utilization of A. bracteata. Hydrogen has enormous commercial potential as a secondary energy source because of its high calorific value, clean combustion byproducts, and multiple production methods. Electrocatalytic water splitting is a viable alternative to the conventional methane steam reforming technique, as it operates under mild conditions, produces high‐quality hydrogen, and has a sustainable production process that requires less energy. Electrocatalysts composed of precious metals like Pt, Au, Ru, and Ag are commonly used in the investigation of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Nevertheless, their limited availability and expensive cost restrict practical use. In contrast, electrocatalysts that do not contain precious metals are readily available, cost‐effective, environmentally friendly, and possess electrocatalytic performance equal to that of noble metals. However, considerable research effort must be devoted to create cost‐effective and high‐performing catalysts. This article provides a comprehensive examination of the reaction mechanism involved in electrocatalytic water splitting in both acidic and basic environments. Additionally, recent breakthroughs in catalysts for both the hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution reactions are also discussed. The structure‐activity relationship of the catalyst was deep‐going discussed, together with the prospects of current obstacles and potential for electrocatalytic water splitting, aiming at provide valuable perspectives for the advancement of economical and efficient electrocatalysts on an industrial scale. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is recognized to be a promising strategy for anticancer treatment. Considering the progressive application of PDT in clinical trials, highly efficient photosensitizers (PSs) are in strong demand. Aggregation‐induced emission (AIE) based PSs are promising phototheranostic materials for tumor imaging and PDT due to their high fluorescence and photosensitizing efficiency. Herein, a PS, TPA‐2BCP with AIE characteristics is developed by adopting an acceptor‐π‐donor‐π‐acceptor (A–π–D–π–A) structure. However, the accumulation of ionic PSs in the tumor is poor due to non‐specific interactions with bio‐molecules. Therefore, we use a carboxyl‐rich polymer material, polyacrylate polyethylene glycol block copolymer (PEG‐b‐PAA) to encapsulate the cationic PSs into nanoparticles through ionic interactions. The cationic groups are blocked and the generated PS nanoparticles can accumulate well in the tumor site in vivo. Meanwhile, the photosensitizing efficiency of the PS is further enhanced in the nanoparticle format. Rechargeable aqueous zinc‐ion batteries (ZIB) sparked a considerable surge of research attention in energy storage systems due to its environment benignity and superior electrochemical performance. Up to now, less efforts to delve into mechanisms of zinc metal anode and their electrochemical performance. Zn metal anodes sustain thorny issues with Zn dendrite growth, hydrogen evolution reaction, and Zn corrosion irreversible byproduct formation, which results in low coulomb efficiency (CE) and poor cycle ability of the battery. Herein, we reveal the fundamental understanding of the above issue, outline four step, including mass transfer, desolvation process, charge transfer and Zn cluster formation. It can be clearly seen from reported strategies to promote Zn anode stability that deals with one or more steps, thereby boosting the understanding of the issues of Zn anodes and benefiting the rational design to surmount the issue. We also sum up advanced materials and structure design such as the design of the anode surface and internal structure, electrolyte strategies, and multifunctional separators. Background: The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) has strived to address racial/ethnic disparities in cancer care since 2009. Surgery plays a pivotal role in cancer care; however, it is unclear whether and how racial/ethnic disparities in cancer surgery have changed over time. Methods: This cohort study included 1,113,256 White and Black cancer patients across 9 years (2007–2015) using patient data extracted from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER)‐18 registries. Patient data were included from 2007 to adjust insurance status and by 2015 to obtain at least a 3‐year survival follow‐up (until 2018). The primary outcome was a surgical intervention. The secondary outcomes were the use of (neo)adjuvant chemotherapy and cancer‐specific survival (CSS). Adjusted associations of the race (Black/White) with the outcomes were measured in each cancer type and year. Results: The gap between surgery rates for Black and White patients narrowed overall, from an adjusted odds ratio (aOR) of 0.621 (0.592–0.652) in 2007 to 0.734 (0.702–0.768) in 2015. However, the racial gap persisted in the surgery rates for lung, breast, prostate, esophageal, and ovarian cancers. In surgically treated patients with lymph node metastasis, Black patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) were less likely to receive (neo)adjuvant chemotherapy than White patients. Black patients undergoing surgery were more likely to have a worse CSS rate than White patients undergoing surgery. In breast cancer patients, the overall trend was narrow, but continuously present, with an adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) of 1.224 (1.278–1.173) in 2007 and 1.042 (1.132–0.96) in 2015. Conclusions: Overall, progress has been made toward narrowing the Black‐White gap in cancer surgical opportunity and survival. Future efforts should be directed toward those specific cancers for which the Black‐White gap continues. Codonopsis Radix, a popular food homology medicine, is widely used in clinical traditional Chinese medicine and food supplement, raw products and three types of processed products are the main forms of decoction pieces in China. However, there is no scientific basis for comprehensive chemical characterization of raw and three types of processed products. Herein, we investigated qualitatively and quantificationally secondary and primary metabolites in raw Codonopsis Radix and three types of processed products by metabolomics and glycomics employing multiple chromatography‐mass spectrometry technology combined with chemometric analysis further to look for differential compounds and propose the processing‐induced chemical mechanisms. The results indicated that Codonopsis Radix became dark‐colored and the smell of burnt incense odor was observed after processing. The principal component analysis demonstrated that secondary metabolome and glycome were significantly altered between raw and processed products, and 36 differential secondary metabolites and 11 differential primary metabolites were finally screened through orthogonal partial least‐squares‐discriminant analysis. The main types of compounds are alkaloids, terpenoids, glycosides, amino acids, monosaccharides, oligosaccharides, and furfural derivatives. Meanwhile, Chemical mechanisms could be involved, including oxidation, glycosidic hydrolysis, esterification, dehydration, and Maillard reaction. Fruit colour is one of the most intuitive economic traits attracting consumers' attention for horticultural crops. Many genes associated with mature fruit colour have been identified in pepper, but genes influencing immature fruit colour are mainly unknown. In the present study, pepper inbred lines with light‐yellow (CSJ009) and green (CSJ010) immature fruit colour were used as female and male parents, respectively, to generate an F2 segregation population. Genetic analysis indicated that the light‐yellow immature fruit colour in CSJ009 is controlled by a single recessive gene, tentatively named as ly. The single‐nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)‐index analysis and genetic linkage analysis delimited the ly locus into a 6.51 Mbp region on chromosome 9, and four candidate genes Capana09g000680, Capana09g000671, Capana09g000715 and Capana09g000692 were identified in the linkage region. Nonsense mutation of APRR2 may be responsible for the low carotenoid content in immature CSJ009 fruits. These results lay a foundation for future immature fruit colour improvement via molecular genetics approaches and further identification of new immature fruit colour‐related genes in pepper. In aqueous/nonaqueous metal‐sulfur batteries, sulfur‐based redox couple exhibits significant challenges mainly due to its low electrochemical kinetics, potential shuttle effect, and large volume change. Although massive researches have been conducted to optimize or replace metal anode and cathode composite, major challenges caused by the dependency on sulfur‐based redox couple still remain. In this study, a novel redox couple of CuS/Cu2S, which provides the same theoretical capacity (based on conventional S/S2− redox couple) by changing the valence of ion charge carrier, is proposed. For achieving high reversibility, commercially viable laser‐induced graphene (LIG) is fabricated and used for the first time in aqueous metal‐sulfur batteries. By virtue of the synergism between novel redox couple and LIG, aqueous CuS/Cu2S battery delivers a highly reversible capacity of 1654.9 mAh g−1 in the initial cycle and retains 91.2% with 1509.5 mAh g−1 after 328 cycles. When being cycled at 2.8 A g−1, its reversible capacity still retains 92.1% after 410 cycles. This study provides a new choice by using a sulfur‐free redox couple from screening thermodynamic parameters and analyzes the functional mechanism of LIG by density functional theory, aiming to innovate the energy storage mechanism of aqueous metal‐sulfur batteries. A new Cd(II) compound, also known as [Cd2(L2)2]n∙x(solvent) (1 H2L = 5‐(4‐pyridyl)‐methoxylisophthalic acid), has been facilely manufactured via the hydrothermal self‐assembly reaction of Cd(NO3)·4H2O and H2L. Single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis demonstrated that compound 1 displays a three‐dimensional pillar‐layered structure with the one‐dimensional opened passageway filled by lattice water molecules. Investigations of luminescent properties indicated that compound 1 discharges strong blue luminescence at normal temperature, and the solvent‐free samples of 1a can be served as a luminescent sensor for the probe of Fe3+ ions in the aqueous solution with highly selective reactions and hypersensitivity. Moreover, the treatment activity of the compound on focal cerebral ischemia/reperfusion was evaluated, and the specific mechanism was explored at the same time. The western blotting assay was conducted to assess the expression levels of the AQP4 protein in the brain tissue around ischemia. Besides, the activation of the superoxide dismutase was evaluated using enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay by measuring the content of the maleic dialdehyde and superoxide dismutase in the cerebrospinal fluid.
