The introduction of 5G technologies has enabled the possibility of designing and building several new classes of networked information systems that were previously impossible to implement due to limitations on data throughput or the reliability of transmission channels. Among them, one of the most interesting and successful examples with a highly positive impact in terms of the quality of urban environments and societal and economical welfare is a system of semi-autonomous connected vehicles, where IoT devices, data centers, and fleets of smart vehicles equipped with communication and computational resources are combined into a heterogeneous and distributed infrastructure, unifying hardware, networks, and software. In order to efficiently provide various services (e.g., patrolling, pickup and delivery, monitoring), these systems typically rely on collecting and broadcasting large amounts of data (e.g., sensor data, GPS traces, or maps), which need to be properly collected and processed in a timely manner. As is well documented in the literature, one of the most effective ways to achieve this purpose, especially in a real-time context, is to adopt a graph model of the data (e.g., to model communication networks, roads, or interactions between vehicles) and to employ suitable graph algorithms to solve properly defined computational problems of interest (e.g., shortest paths or distributed consensus). While research in this context has been extensive from a theoretical perspective, works that have focused on the implementation, deployment, and evaluation of the practical performance of graph algorithms for real-world systems of autonomous vehicles have been much rarer. In this paper, we present a study of this kind. Specifically, we first describe the main features of a real-world information system employing semi-autonomous connected vehicles that is currently being tested in the city of L'Aquila (Italy). Then, we present an overview of the computational challenges arising in the considered application domain and provide a systematic survey of known algorithmic results for one of the most relevant classes of computational problems that have to be addressed in said domain, namely, pickup and delivery problems. Finally, we discuss implementation issues, adopted software tools, and the deployment and testing phases concerning one of the algorithmic components of the mentioned real-world system dedicated to handling a specific problem of the above class, namely, the pickup and delivery multi-vehicle problem with time windows. Metaheuristic algorithms, widely applied across various domains due to their simplicity and strong optimization capabilities, play a crucial role in problem-solving. While the Aquila Optimizer is recognized for its effectiveness, it often exhibits slow convergence rates and susceptibility to local optima in certain scenarios. To address these concerns, this paper introduces an enhanced version, termed Tent-enhanced Aquila Optimizer (TEAO). TEAO incorporates the Tent chaotic map to initialize the Aquila population, promoting a more uniform distribution within the solution space. To balance exploration and exploitation, novel formulas are proposed, accelerating convergence while ensuring precision. The effectiveness of the TEAO algorithm is validated through a comprehensive comparison with 14 state-of-the-art algorithms using 23 classical benchmark test functions. Additionally, to assess the practical feasibility of the approach, TEAO is applied to six constrained engineering problems and benchmarked against the performance of the same 14 algorithms. All experimental results consistently demonstrate that TEAO outperforms other advanced algorithms in terms of solution quality and stability, establishing it as a more competitive choice for optimization tasks. Aquila optimizer (AO) is an efficient meta-heuristic optimization method, which mimics the hunting style of Aquila in nature. However, the AO algorithm may suffer from immature convergence during the exploitation stage. In this paper, two strategies are elegantly employed into conventional AO, such as random opposition-based learning and nonlinear flexible jumping factor, which can efficiently enhance the performance of conventional AO. Experiments on 1 7 benchmark functions and image segmentation demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. Job Shop Scheduling Problem (JSSP) is a well-known NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem. In recent years, many scholars have proposed various metaheuristic algorithms to solve JSSP, playing an important role in solving small-scale JSSP. However, when the size of the problem increases, the algorithms usually take too much time to converge. In this paper, we propose a hybrid algorithm, namely EOSMA, which mixes the update strategy of Equilibrium Optimizer (EO) into Slime Mould Algorithm (SMA), adding Centroid Opposition-based Computation (COBC) in some iterations. The hybridization of EO with SMA makes a better balance between exploration and exploitation. The addition of COBC strengthens the exploration and exploitation, increases the diversity of the population, improves the convergence speed and convergence accuracy, and avoids falling into local optimum. In order to solve discrete problems efficiently, a Sort-Order-Index (SOI)-based coding method is proposed. In order to solve JSSP more efficiently, a neighbor search strategy based on a two-point exchange is added to the iterative process of EOSMA to improve the exploitation capability of EOSMA to solve JSSP. Then, it is utilized to solve 82 JSSP benchmark instances; its performance is evaluated compared to that of EO, Marine Predators Algorithm (MPA), Aquila Optimizer (AO), Bald Eagle Search (BES), and SMA. Blockchain has become one of the key techniques for the security of the industrial internet. However, the blockchain is vulnerable to FAW (Fork after Withholding) attacks. To protect the industrial internet from FAW attacks, this paper proposes a novel FAW attack protection algorithm (FAWPA) based on the behavior of blockchain miners. Firstly, FAWPA performs miner data preprocessing based on the behavior of the miners. Then, FAWPA proposes a behavioral reward and punishment mechanism and a credit scoring model to obtain cumulative credit value with the processed data. Moreover, we propose a miner's credit classification mechanism based on fuzzy C-means (FCM), which combines the improved Aquila optimizer (AO) with strong solving ability. That is, FAWPA combines the miner's accumulated credit value and multiple attack features as the basis for classification, and optimizes cluster center selection by simulating Aquila's predation behavior. It can improve the solution update mechanism in different optimization stages. FAWPA can realize the rapid classification of miners' credit levels by improving the speed of identifying malicious miners. To evaluate the protective effect of the target mining pool, FAWPA finally establishes a mining pool and miner revenue model under FAW attack. The simulation results show that FAWPA can thoroughly and efficiently detect malicious miners in the target mining pool. FAWPA also improves the recall rate and precision rate of malicious miner detection, and it improves the cumulative revenue of the target mining pool. In this paper, we propose a modified hybrid Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA) and Aquila Optimizer (AO) named IHSSAO for UAV path planning in complex terrain. The primary logic of the proposed IHSSAO is to enhance the performance of AO by introducing the leader mechanism of SSA, tent chaotic map, and pinhole imaging opposition-based learning strategy. Firstly, the tent chaotic map is utilized to substitute the randomly generated initial population in the original algorithm to increase the diversity of the initial individuals. Secondly, we integrate the leader mechanism of SSA into the position update formulation of the basic AO, which enables the search individuals to fully utilize the optimal solution information and enhances the global search capability of AO. Thirdly, we introduce the pinhole imaging opposition-based learning in the proposed IHSSAO to enhance the capability to escape from the local optimization. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed IHSSAO algorithm, we tested it against SSA, AO, and five other advanced meta-heuristic algorithms on 23 classical benchmark functions and 17 IEEE CEC2017 test functions. The experimental results indicate that the proposed IHSSAO is superior to the other seven algorithms in most cases. Eventually, we applied the IHSSAO, SSA, and AO to solve the UAV path planning problem. The Aquila Optimizer (AO) is a metaheuristic algorithm that is inspired by the hunting behavior of the Aquila bird. The AO approach has been proven to perform effectively on a range of benchmark optimization issues. However, the AO algorithm may suffer from limited exploration ability in specific situations. To increase the exploration ability of the AO algorithm, this work offers a hybrid approach that employs the alpha position of the Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) to drive the search process of the AO algorithm. At the same time, we applied the quasi-opposition-based learning (QOBL) strategy in each phase of the Aquila Optimizer algorithm. This strategy develops quasi-oppositional solutions to current solutions. The quasi-oppositional solutions are then utilized to direct the search phase of the AO algorithm. The GWO method is also notable for its resistance to noise. This means that it can perform effectively even when the objective function is noisy. The AO algorithm, on the other hand, may be sensitive to noise. By integrating the GWO approach into the AO algorithm, we can strengthen its robustness to noise, and hence, improve its performance in real-world issues. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the technique, the algorithm was benchmarked on 23 well-known test functions and CEC2017 test functions and compared with other popular metaheuristic algorithms. The findings demonstrate that our proposed method has excellent efficacy. Currently, the world is still facing a COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) classified as a highly infectious disease due to its rapid spreading. The shortage of X-ray machines may lead to critical situations and delay the diagnosis results, increasing the number of deaths. Therefore, the exploitation of deep learning (DL) and optimization algorithms can be advantageous in early diagnosis and COVID-19 detection. In this paper, we propose a framework for COVID-19 images classification using hybridization of DL and swarm-based algorithms. The MobileNetV3 is used as a backbone feature extraction to learn and extract relevant image representations as a DL model. As a swarm-based algorithm, the Aquila Optimizer (Aqu) is used as a feature selector to reduce the dimensionality of the image representations and improve the classification accuracy using only the most essential selected features. To validate the proposed framework, two datasets with X-ray and CT COVID-19 images are used. The obtained results from the experiments show a good performance of the proposed framework in terms of classification accuracy and dimensionality reduction during the feature extraction and selection phases. Developing cyber security is very necessary and has attracted considerable attention from academy and industry organizations worldwide. It is also very necessary to provide sustainable computing for the the Internet of Things (IoT). Machine learning techniques play a vital role in the cybersecurity of the IoT for intrusion detection and malicious identification. Thus, in this study, we develop new feature extraction and selection methods and for the IDS system using the advantages of the swarm intelligence (SI) algorithms. We design a feature extraction mechanism depending on the conventional neural networks (CNN). After that, we present an alternative feature selection (FS) approach using the recently developed SI algorithm, Aquila optimizer (AQU). Moreover, to assess the quality of the developed IDS approach, four well-known public datasets, CIC2017, NSL-KDD, BoT-IoT, and KDD99, were used. We also considered extensive comparisons to other optimization methods to verify the competitive performance of the developed method.
