An analysis of 11,593 dissertations accepted by 64 State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) indicated that 7,276 (62.8%) dissertations were submitted by male scholars, while, 4,317 (37.2%) by female scholars. The highest number of dissertations was accepted by Indian Agricultural Research Institute (New Delhi) followed by Indian Veterinary Research Institute (Izatnagar) and Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (Pant Nagar). The highest number of dissertations by women scholars was accepted by Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT) followed by Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCS HAU) and Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). The maximum increase in the value of Transformative Activity Index (TAI) is for Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHIATS) followed by Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) indicating an increase in productivity at these SAUs in the second block of 2016-2020. The highest decrease in TAI is for Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) followed by Navsari Agricultural University (NAU) and University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS, Dharwad) indicating that the dissertations accepted by these SAUs decreased in the later period. The number of researchers supervised per supervisor for male and female supervisors is equal. However, it varied from one SAU to another SAU for both male and female supervisors. Among the male supervisors, the highest number of students was supervised at Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth (MPKV), while it was the highest for women supervisors at Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (DYSPUHF). This brief communication is the outcome of the prevailing confusion and the role of editors of several prestigious journals published in India in different disciplines of science and social science including the discipline of library and information science. These journals use different Plagiarism Detection Tools (PDTs) or Plagiarism Detection Software (PDS) to assess the similarity score of the submitted manuscript. These PDTs are helpful to avoid questions raised on the academic integrity of the submitted manuscript. For every submission, the editor of the journal generates a similarity report and communicates the results of the similarity index to the scholars verbatim. It is not judicious for the editor of the journal to simply rely on the percentage of similarity index suggested by the PDT. Human intervention is required to rule out the facts by a thorough inspection of every single matching. Also, an acceptable percentage of similarity for a manuscript needs a critical analysis. Based on the set guidelines of the academic regulatory bodies, an acceptable percentage of similarity for a manuscript is considered as minor or level 0 if it is 10%. The present communication draws attention towards this malice as a lot of time of the author/scholar is devoted to incorporate small changes which do not serve any useful purpose to the manuscript and the journal. The paper is an analysis of 7,056 papers published by Indian scientists during 2001-2020 in the discipline of veterinary sciences. The study indicates that there is a steep decline in the Indian research output in veterinary sciences after the two years block of 2009-2010. Most of the prolific institutions except Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati were funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) published about 71% of the total output. Of these, Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar produced the highest number of papers and Central Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture (CIFA), Bhubaneswar had the highest value of CPP. Highest number of prolific authors was also from Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI). About three-fourth of the papers were published in low impact factor journals. Of the total published papers, about one-third remained uncited. All the highly cited papers were written either in domestic or international collaboration. About 45% papers were published in journals of Indian origin and the remaining papers in journals originating from other countries.
