Background. The incidence of malignancy is heightened in individuals infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Despite a decrease in the incidence of HIV infection resulting from antiretroviral therapy (ART), the prevalence of HIV-associated malignancies remains substantial. Objective. Our objective was to examine the types of cancer that initially manifest in individuals infected with HIV or emerge during their subsequent observation period. Material and method. The study conducted a retrospective analysis of demographic characteristics, malignancy types, presenting symptoms, mode of transmission, HIV-RNA levels, and CD4/CD8 ratios in individuals living with HIV who developed malignancies and were under follow-up at the Infectious Diseases Polyclinic between October 2018 and December 2022. Results. Out of the 465 patients who were monitored during the study, 27 individuals (5.8%) were diagnosed with various malignancies. Among these patients, 22 (81%) were men and 5 (19%) were women. The average age of the patients ranged from 45.87 to 9.12 years. Among the patients, 17 (63%) were married and 10 (17%) were single. In terms of education, 16 patients (59.3%) had completed primary school, 7 patients (25.9%) were university graduates, and 4 patients (14.8%) had completed high school. The mode of HIV transmission in all patients was through sexual intercourse. The reasons for testing varied, with 8 patients (29.7%) being tested due to fever, 6 patients (22.2%) before undergoing surgery, 3 patients (11.1%) due to weight loss, and 2 patients (7.4%) tested for reasons such as job application, diarrhea, pre-blood donation, lymphadenomegaly, and dysphagia. The most common types of malignancies observed in the patients were non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) with 11 cases (40.7%), followed by Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS) with 5 cases (18.5%), and cervical carcinoma with 3 cases (11.1%). Conclusion. The incidence of cancer is higher among individuals with HIV. There is a need to enhance the awareness among both healthcare providers who specialize in HIV care and those who do not. Objectives: Scabies, an infestation affecting individuals of all ages, poses significant public health implications due to its potential for epidemics and transmission within households. The aim of this study was to evaluate the demographic data of patients diagnosed with scabies between the years 2022 and 2023. Methods: A retrospective analysis of patients admitted to the Infectious Diseases and Dermatology Outpatient Clinics between January 2022 and November 2023 was conducted, with symptoms of itching and rash, and was diagnosed with scabies during the first admission. The patients of all age groups were included in the study. Results: A total of 1261 patients were included in this study, with a median age of 30.0 (0.0-93.0) years and 669 (53.0%) were male. In 2022, 521 (41.3%) patients were diagnosed with scabies, while in 2023, the number increased to 740 (58.7%). Among the total patients, 167 (13.2%) were admitted from outside the province, with 77 (6.1%) in 2022 and 90 (7.1%) in 2023. Interestingly, 114 (9.0%) patients were diagnosed with scabies while hospitalized for reasons unrelated to scabies itself. This includes 16 (1.3%) patients in 2022 and 98 (7.8%) patients in 2023. Conclusion: Scabies are an escalating public health concern that has the potential to trigger epidemics. Primary health-care institutions, specialty associations, and the General Directorate of Public Health play vital roles in recognizing the disease, coordinating treatment strategies, and disseminating preventive measures to the public. LATENT tuberculosis , *HIV infections , *COUGH , *CD4 lymphocyte count , *ASYMPTOMATIC patients , *TUBERCULOSIS - Abstract
Objective: We aimed to determine the utility of CD4 T lymphocyte counts and percentages and CD4/CD8 ratios as markers for the progression of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) to active tuberculosis (TB) infection in HIV-positive patients followed in the Acquired Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Polyclinic of our hospital. Methods: The files of 530 HIV-positive patients were retrospectively analyzed. "Tuberculin skin test" (TST) was applied after the anti-HIV test was positive. Asymptomatic patients with a TST =5 mm were considered TB negative, patients with a TST =5 mm were considered LTBI, and all symptomatic patients (fever, cough, night sweats, weight loss) regardless of TST result were considered as active TB infection. CD4 counts and percentages and CD4/CD8 ratios were calculated and the relationship between LTBI and active TB infection was evaluated using Mann-Whitney U test and independent sample t-test. Results: During the specified period, 530 patients were admitted to the HIV Outpatient Clinic. There were 43 (8.11%) patients in the LTBI group, of whom 4 (9.3%) were female and 39 (90.7%) were male. CD4 was <200 mm² in 7 (16.3%) patients and >200 mm² in 36 (83.7%) patients. The mean CD4/CD8 ratio was 0.55 (0.08-1.45). 21 (3.96%) patients had symptoms of fever, cough, night sweats and weight loss and were diagnosed with active TB infection. Among these patients, 1 (4.8%) was female and 20 (95.2%) were male. CD4 was <200 mm² in 5 (23.8%) patients and >200 mm² in 16 (76.2%) patients. The mean CD4/CD8 ratio was 0.38 (0.07-1.8). The difference in CD4 counts between patients with LTBI and active TB infection was not significant, but the difference in CD4/CD8 ratio was significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: Immune dysfunction that occurs in HIV and TB co-infection facilitates the activation of LTBI. While CD4 counts and CD4 percentages were not significant as risk markers, CD4/CD8 ratio was found as significant. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nowadays, we observe an increasing number of studies on interfaces that provide human-computer interaction between the virtual and real world, and their ergonomics, through various sensors. Although the general framework regarding the ergonomics of human-computer interaction is defined by ISO 92411-960 standards, we foresee that there will be scopes that need to be updated every period with the developments in the areas such as new sensors. Hand gestures are already used by computer-human interaction systems researchers as a universal non-verbal communication tool. As presented in this study, natural hand movements are detected and defined by the Leap Motion motion sensor and interacted with an interface created in the Unity3D environment. The 3D virtual furnace model placed on the interface can be controlled by hand movements while simultaneously sending signals to the real world. In this case, it is possible to control any kitchen appliances that have a microprocessor on them, such as a hob, which was chosen as the target in this study. In the study, the simulation of the actual hob was conducted with an Arduino and integrated LEDs. In the virtual environment, the hob functions are evaluated according to the response of the LEDs controlled via Arduino serial communication., Günümüzde çeşitli sensörler vasıtasıyla, sanal ve gerçek dünya arasında, insan bilgisayar etkileşimini sağlayan arayüzler ve bunların ergonomisi üzerine çalışmaların arttığını gözlemlemekteyiz.

Oxidative stress ,Microplastics ,DNA damage - Abstract
Microplastics (MPs) are anthropogenic contaminants, distributed in the entire ecosystem. However, the impact of MPs on the biota, humans, and the environment is still uncertain. Recent studies have overemphasized the occurrence, characterization, and cytotoxicity effects of MPs but deciphering the genotoxic potential of these substances is not yet clear. Thus, we provided a review to address the genotoxic effects of MPs in aquatic organisms. Several genotoxic endpoints were implicated, including the frequency of micronuclei (MN), nucleoplasmic bridge (NPB), nuclear buds (NBUD), DNA strand breaks, and the percentage of DNA in the tail (%Tail DNA). In addition, the mechanism of MPs-induced genotoxicity seems to be closely related to reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, inflammatory responses, and DNA repair interference. Further, future research was suggested to present environmentally relevant conditions. Moreover, the long-term effects of MPs should be addressed, and assessing the genotoxic effect in terrestrial ecosystems need to be taken into account. Çalışma sonucunda böcek proteinlerinin western blot tekniği ile hücre ölümünü sağlayan proteinlerin üretimini desteklediği gösterildi., In this study, protein extraction was performed from the aquatic insect Helophorus aquaticus (Linnaeus, 1758) and Helophorus syriacus (Kuwert, 1885) species belonging to the genus Helophorus (Coleoptera: Helophoridae). Then, these protein extracts were studied in vitro. These species were collected from the shallow parts of various streams, springs, creeks, ponds and hot springs from Bingöl city centre and its districts between May to June 2017. The protein amount was determined 34.78 mg/mL in the H. aquaticus and 35.14 mg/mL in the H. syriacus, after that he antioxidant capacity of protein extracts was examined. Metal chelating activity was determined as 90-88.5% and DPPH removal activity 53.19-61.7% for H. aquaticus and H. syriacus respectively. Protein samples belonging to both species were tested for cell vitality with WST-1 in PC-3 (prostate cancer) cells with in vitro cell culture. Upon examination of the test results, it has been found out that protein extracts from both of the studied species caused a decrease in cell inhibition. The highest cell inhibition was observed in samples with 1000 μg/mL insect protein extract added. In this study, protein expression providing apoptosis was examined with the Western blot technique after the effective dose was established. By looking at the proteins of Cyt-C and Caspase 3 with the Western blot technique, the efficacy of the protein extracts from both species was demonstrated effectively for the in vitro PC-3 line in non-apoptosis cell death. As a result of the study, insect proteins were shown to support the production of proteins that ensure cell death with the western blot technique.

Bee bread is a food product obtained by fermenting bee pollen with honey and storing it in honeycomb cells. In this fermentation, phenolic compounds remain unaffected and unchanged. Bee bread contains approximately; there are 35% sugar, 24-35% carbohydrate, 20-22% protein, 3.5% lactic acid, 2.43% mineral, 1.6% lipid and 1.6% fat. Within the scope of the study, biocompatible iron nanoparticles were synthesized (BB@FeNPs) by utilizing the potential reducing powers of these components contained in bee bread. Characterization of obtained bee bread-based nanoparticles; were performed using spectroscopic techniques such as ultraviolet-visible light spectrophotometer, fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer, and x-ray diffraction spectrometry. Scanning electron microscopy was used as a microscopic method in the characterization of nanoparticles. In addition, the sun protection factor (SPF) of the synthesized nanoparticles was determined by ultraviolet spectrophotometry. Although the studies in recent years tend to search for bioactive molecules of natural origin, no nanoparticle synthesis with bee bread has been encountered in the literature. This study is important as it is a first in the synthesis of metal nanoparticles with bee bread., Arı ekmeği, arı poleninin bal ile fermente edilmesi ve petek gözlerine depolanmasıyla elde edilen bir gıda maddesidir.

Böylece klasik Türk şiirinin kendine has estetik kalıpları ve anlatım tarzı noktasında depremin şiirlerde nasıl yer aldığı tespit edilmiştir., Classical Turkish poetry contains different and rich subjects. In order to determine and classify these subjects in detail, divan analyzes and divan studies were carried out. The materials that emerged as a result of such studies show that the divan poets had knowledge on many subjects and their dominance over a wide and rich cultural accumulation. One of the subjects that poets refer to in their poems is earthquakes. Poets who experienced earthquakes in person or were aware of the devastating effects of earthquakes also mentioned earthquakes in their poems. There are separate epistles, poems, and works written about earthquakes that took place in history, covering the characteristics and results of the earthquake. Many studies have been done on these works. Within the scope of this study, the aim is to choose poet divans from different centuries as a sample and to focus on how the earthquake issue is explained and handled in the poems in these divans. It has been tried to determine what kind of reflections the earthquake has a negative connotation in the human mind when it is reflected in the poems. It has been determined how the earthquake took place in the poems in terms of the unique aesthetic patterns and expression style of classical Turkish poetry. In the study, the place and function of the words and concepts used in the context of earthquakes and earthquakes in the poems are emphasized rather than the determination and analysis of individual earthquake poems, which are historical documents.

Unlike traditional manufacturing methods, 3D printing technology has been used effectively in the production of objects and parts in recent years. Today, with 3D printers, it is possible to produce prototypes or final products of designed parts quickly and efficiently. In some cases, extremely complex geometries that cannot be produced by other methods can be produced with 3D printing ( Berman 2012), (Wong ve Hernandez 2012).Within the scope of this study, Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) 3D printer design will be realized. The first and most important step in the development of a 3D metal printing technique based on Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) or Selective Laser Melting (SLM) is to reduce the energy obtained from a laser source to specified positions on the target metal powder at certain times and situations. It is aimed to integrate the independent units (such as laser, optics, lenses, control software) in the SLS-based 3D printer system to be designed with personalized software, Geleneksel imalat yöntemlerinden farklı olarak, 3D baskı teknolojisi, son yıllarda nesnelerin ve parçaların üretiminde etkili bir şekilde kullanılmaya başlanmıştır.

Her yıl birçok yeni pestisit kullanım amacıyla üretilmektedir. Bu çalışma pestisitlerin insan sağlığı ve olası genetik hastalıklar üzerine potansiyel etkileri hakkında yeni veriler sunmaktadır., Many new pesticides are produced for use every year. Fungicides, one of the important subgroups of pesticides, are used to protect agricultural products from fungal infections. However, studies on the genotoxic potential of fungicides are still very limited. In this study, the genotoxic potentials of four commonly used fungicides (metiram, kresoxim-methyl, propamocarb and hymexazol) were investigated using the Drosophila Somatic Mutation and Recombination Test (SMART) and the Drosophila Single Cell Gel Electrophoresis Test (Drosophila Comet Test). Drosophila, which has been widely used in genetic studies in recent years, provides a powerful system in the use of genetic and molecular approaches in human genetic diseases research. As a model organism, Drosophila is in many ways similar to human systems. According to the results obtained from the study, it was determined that 4 fungicides whose genotoxic effects were investigated by SMART method did not induce genotoxicity. In the KOMET experiment, it was determined that the studied fungicides caused DNA single strand breakage. This study provides new data on the potential effects of pesticides on human health and possible genetic diseases.

Objective: Immunosuppressive therapy in anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis is indispensable for patient and kidney survival. There is a controversy about whether the risks of plasma exchange treatment override the probability of kidney-related outcomes. Hence, the question arises in which conditions the plasma exchange will be required? In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of plasma exchange adding to immunosuppressive therapy in antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis patients. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 57 patients with biopsy-proven anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis. We grouped patients according to treatment options with or without plasma exchange. We investigated the 1-year and 5-year patients and kidney outcomes. Results: Thirty-six (63.2%) of 57 patients were treated with plasma exchange besides the routine immunosuppressive treatment. Sixteen (44.5%) of 36 patients were with active pulmonary hemorrhage and the remaining 20 (55.5%) were with vasculitic pulmonary involvement. The survival rate was 80.7% and 68.8% in the first and fifth year, respectively. In the multivariate Cox regression analysis model, risk factors affecting patient survival were age >50 years (hazard ratio = 17.11 P = .034), pulmonary involvement (hazard ratio = 13.25, P =.02), positive perinuclear anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis (hazard ratio = 5.93, P =.036), and lower albumin level (hazard ratio = 0.18, P =.014). It is found that C-reactive protein level and plasma exchange did not relate to better patient and kidney outcomes (P > .05). Conclusions: In anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis, although pulmonary hemorrhage and pulmonary involvement are serious complications, plasma exchange did not provide additional benefit to standard treatment. Background: Serum beta-2 microglobulin levels are commonly employed as prognostic and inflammatory indices, given their ease in assessment, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Herein, we aimed to confirm the effectiveness of serum beta-2 microglobulin as a marker in geriatric patients and establish its role in frailty assessment. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study included 81 participants aged>65 years. Serum beta-2 microglobulin levels were compared with erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, interleukin-1, interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor Tumor Necrosis Factor-a, and vitamin D levels. To determine whether beta-2 microglobulin is an effective marker for frailty assessment, the study was divided into frail and non-frail patients, except for the acute infection group. Frailty was assessed using the Clinical Frailty Scale Version 9, and quality of life was assessed using the Quality of Life Scale Short Form-36. Results: The mean age of the participants was 72.14±7.00 years. The frail group comprised 47.5% of the total patients. beta-2 microglobulin exhibited a strong positive correlation with C-reactive protein, Clinical Frailty Scale score, and comorbidity index, and a moderate positive correlation with Tumor Necrosis Factor-a and interleukin-6 levels. Conversely, beta-2 microglobulin and Short Form-36 exhibited a strong negative correlation. The Short Form-36 was the most effective in assessing changes in beta-2 microglobulin levels. The optimal beta-2 microglobulin cut-off value to assess frailty was 3.78 (sensitivity=75%; specificity=93.5%). Conclusion: In the geriatric population, we detected a significant association between increased beta-2 microglobulin levels and frailty, as well as a significant relationship with decreased quality of life. - Abstract
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
