The Marine Predators Algorithm (MPA) is a swarm intelligence algorithm developed based on the foraging behavior of the ocean's predators. Whereas the horizontal and vertical crossover operators maintain the population diversity during the search process. The performance of AC-MPA was tested using 51 benchmark functions from CEC2017, CEC2020, and CEC2022, with varying degrees of dimensionality, and the findings are compared with those of its basic version, variants, and numerous well-established metaheuristics. Additionally, 11 engineering optimization problems were utilized to verify the capabilities of the AC-MPA in handling real-world optimization problems. The findings clearly show that AC-MPA performs well in terms of its solution accuracy, convergence, and robustness. In recent years, there is massive development of new metaheuristics as stochastic methods. Meanwhile, there is not any metaheuristics is powerful to handle all problems as stated in the no-free-lunch (NFL) theory. Based on this circumstance, this paper introduces a new swarm-based metaheuristics with the main strategy moving toward the resultant of better swarm members and avoiding the resultant of worse swarm members called group better-worse algorithm (GBWA). It consists of five searches: moving toward the best swarm member, moving toward the resultant of better swarm members, moving away from the resultant of worse swarm members, searching locally, and jumping to the opposite area. GBWA is then evaluated in three ways. The first evaluation is a comparative evaluation where GBWA is compared to five recent metaheuristics: coati optimization algorithm (COA), average and subtraction-based optimization (ASBO), clouded leopard optimization (CLO), total interaction algorithm (TIA), and osprey optimization algorithm (OOA). The second evaluation is the individual search evaluation. The third evaluation is hyperparameter test. The collection of 23 classic functions is chosen as the use case in all evaluations. The result of the first evaluation shows that GBWA is better than COA, ASBO, CLO, TIA, and OOA in 20, 21, 20, 21, and 21 functions consecutively. Four-bar linkages are one of the most widely used mechanisms in industries. This paper presents a comparative study on the accuracy and efficiency of the optimum synthesis of path-generating four-bar linkages using five metaheuristic optimization algorithms. The utilized metaheuristic methods included two swarm intelligence-based algorithms, i.e., particle swarm optimization and hybrid particle swarm optimization, and three evolutionary-based algorithms, i.e., differential evolution, ensemble of parameters and mutation strategies in differential evolution, and linearly ensemble of parameters and mutation strategies in differential evolution. The objective function to be minimized is the sum of squares of the distance between the generated points and the precision points of a coupler point. The optimal design of four-bar linkages must meet the Grashof's criteria and exhibit sequential constraints that can prevent the occurrence of order defect. This study investigated five representative cases of the dimensional synthesis of four-bar path generators with and without prescribed timing and compared the optimal solutions of the utilized five metaheuristic methods to those of previously reported algorithms in literature. The improved metaheuristic methods exhibited superior optimal solution and enhanced reliability compared to the original methods. Moreover, three improved metaheuristic methods were not only easy implemented, but also more efficient for solving the optimal synthesis problems, particularly for high dimensional problems. Power system stabilizers (PSSs) are extensively used in generator units to enhance the transient stability of the power system. Hence, optimal tuning and placement of the parameters of PSS are crucial for the efficiency of the stabilizer. Researchers have been proposed many methods for optimizing such parameters. In this paper, the Crow search algorithm (CSA), which is based on the intelligence of crows, was employed in a single-machine infinite-bus (SMIB) system to determine the optimum parameters of the PSS. Modeling and simulation of the SMIB and designing of PSS were made by MATLAB/Simulink. PSSs are designed to minimize low-frequency oscillations such as power angle, rotor speed, and field current deviation following a large disturbance. Our objective in this study is the minimization of the rotor speed deviation. The results of the simulations proved the effectiveness and robustness of the optimization process compared to other metaheuristic algorithms such as particle swarm optimization (PSO) and genetic algorithm (GA). When compared to the performance attained by the GA-based and PSO-based PSS controller designs, the simulations show that the CSA-based PSS delivers a far better dynamic response when the system is disrupted. The CSA-based PSS settles 48.1% faster than the PSO-based PSS and 55.7% faster than the GA-based PSS. CSA has just 2 parameters to adjust, making it much easier to implement than other methods. These parameters for PSO and GA are 4 and 6. When CSA-based PSS is used in the SMIB system, overshoot and low-frequency oscillations are also significantly reduced compared to other methods. This paper presents a powerful swarm intelligence metaheuristic optimization algorithm called Dynamic Cat Swarm Optimization. The formulation is through modifying the existing Cat Swarm Optimization Algorithm. The original Cat Swarm Optimization suffers from the shortcoming of "premature convergence," which is the possibility of entrapment in local optima which usually happens due to the off balance between exploration and exploitation phases. Therefore, the proposed algorithm suggests a new method to provide a proper balance between these phases by modifying the selection scheme and the seeking mode of the algorithm. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, 23 classical test functions, 10 modern test functions (CEC 2019) and a real-world scenario are used. In addition, the dimension-wise diversity metric is used to measure the percentage of the exploration and exploitation phases. The optimization results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, which ranks first compared to several well-known algorithms available in the literature. Furthermore, statistical methods and graphs are also used to further confirm the outperformance of the algorithm. Being sensitive to initial position and noise is the key problem that must be solved in point cloud registration. To improve the overall performance of registration methods, a point cloud registration method based on the Dark Forest Algorithm is proposed in this paper. The introduction of swarm intelligence enhances the adaptability of the registration method to the initial position and improves the robustness of the point cloud registration system. Furthermore, the application of the Dark Forest Algorithm with four capability enhancement strategies: the hierarchical elite, civilization self-decision, suspicion chain, and technology explosion has improved the comprehensive competitiveness in point cloud registration. The mentioned strategies have brought a great positive impact on the registration methods in solving the far initial position, breaking away from the local optimal solution, and weakening the noise interference. The paper aims to provide the Dark Forest Algorithm and the point cloud registration method based on it, which are elaborated on in detail and compared to other existing algorithms to prove the comprehensive performance, respectively. In recent years, there have been notable advancements in the theoretical research of existing meta-heuristic algorithms and in the development of novel algorithms. However, the research on the definition and construction methods of the so-called "mutation" operator, a concept widely used in existing meta-heuristic algorithms, remains notably insufficient. In addition, how to directly construct a meta-heuristic algorithm under the guidance of stability and invariance analysis continues to pose a challenge that has yet to resolve. This paper carefully investigates and rigorously defines the concepts of "mutation operator" and "mutation-driven meta-heuristic algorithm" as found in the literature. According to these definitions, a novel meta-heuristic algorithm, called Multi-direction guided Mutation-driven Stable swarm Intelligence algorithm with Translation and Rotation invariance (M2SITRI) is proposed, and the corresponding mutation operator is carefully designed based on the analysis of translation invariance, rotation invariance, order-1 stability, and order-2 stability. Neural networks have been widely used as compensational models for aircraft control designs and as surrogate models for other optimizations. In the case of tiltrotor aircraft, the total number of aircraft states and controls is much greater than that of both traditional fixed-wings and helicopters. This requires, in general, a huge amount of training data for the network to reach a satisfactory approximation precision and makes the network size rise considerably. To solve the practical problem of reducing the size of the approximating network, efforts have to be made in the efficient utilization of the limited amount of training data. This work presents the methodology of optimizing the sample pattern of the training data set by adopting the metaheuristic algorithm of the particle swarm optimizer improved by the fourth-order Runge–Kutta algorithm. A 6-degree-of-freedom nonlinear flight dynamics model of the tiltrotor aircraft is derived, along with its approximation radial basis function neural network. An example case of approximating a highly nonlinear function is studied to illustrate the principle and main parameters of the optimizer, and the approximation performance of the time-domain response of the unstable nonlinear system is revealed by the study of a Van der Pol oscillator. Then, the presented method is applied to the modeled tiltrotor aircraft for its early and late conversion modes. This study was conducted to promote a new adaptive cone algorithm (ACA) algorithm. ACA is a metaheuristic technique based on swarm intelligence. ACA contains three steps. Each agent moves closer to the global reference in the first step. Then, each agent searches for a better solution around the current solution in the second step. The global reference searches for better solutions around it in the third step. This algorithm is named cone because the local space size declines linearly during the iterative process. ACA introduces a new adaptability model to improve the exploration strategy when a better solution cannot be achieved. It is conducted by enlarging the local solution space. ACA is challenged to find the final solution for theoretical and practical problems. The 23 functions are chosen as theoretical optimization problems. The portfolio optimization problem is selected as the practical problem. ACA is compared with five algorithms: particle swarm optimization (PSO), grey wolf optimizer (GWO), marine predator optimization (MPA), average subtraction-based optimizer (ASBO), and pelican optimization algorithm (POA). The result shows that ACA is competitive in finding the optimal solution for 23 functions and outperforms all sparing algorithms in achieving the highest total capital gain in tackling the portfolio optimization problem. ACA is superior to PSO, GWO, MPA, ASBO, and POA in solving 20, 11, 13, 4, and 21 functions, respectively. In the future, ACA can be implemented in solving various practical optimization problems. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) suffers from delayed convergence and stagnation in the local optimal solution, as do most meta-heuristic algorithms. This study proposes a time-based leadership particle swarm-based Salp (TPSOSA) to address the PSO's limitations. The TPSOSA is a novel search technique that addresses population diversity, an imbalance between exploitation and exploration, and the premature convergence of the PSO algorithm. Hybridization in TPSOSA is divided into two stages: The PSO hierarchy of leaders and followers is first represented as a time-varying dynamic structure. Because we need much exploration at the beginning and many exploitative steps at the end, this method raises the number of leaders while decreasing the number of follower particles linearly. In the time-varying form of the PSO (TPSOSA), unlike the PSO, the number of leaders and followers changes over time. PSO's robust search strategy is used to update the leaders' positions. Second, the SSA's powerful exploitation is utilized to update the followers' swarm population position. The purpose of tweaking the particle swarm optimizer algorithm is to aid the fundamental method in avoiding premature convergence and quickly directing the search to the most promising likely search space. The proposed TPSOSA method is tested using the CEC 2017 benchmark, seven CEC2008lsgo test functions with 200, 500, and 1000 decision variables, and 19 datasets (including three high-dimensional datasets and the NSL-KDD Dataset for Intrusion Detection System). In each experiment, TPSOSA is compared to various state-of-the-art metaheuristics methods. Friedman and Wilcoxon rank-sum statistical tests are also used to analyze the data. Experimental data and statistical tests show that the TPSOSA algorithm is very competitive and often superior to the algorithms used in the studies. For classification tasks in machine learning, this paper proposes a brand-new wrapper feature selection algorithm prototype named recursive elimination–election (REE), which is conceived in a simple but exquisite structure inspired by the recursion technique in computer science. Prevalent metaheuristic methods such as differential evolution (DE), particle swarm optimization (PSO), etc., from evolutionary computation (EC) and swarm intelligence (SI) communities have recently been widely applied to feature selection research, but suffer from severe drawbacks including but not limited to low-efficient binary representation transformation, poor population diversity, excessive control parameter adjustments and sophisticated mechanisms. Instead, REE is organically constructed with an ordinary subset representation of feature indexes, simple operators, getting rid of extra control parameters. Specifically, REE is assembled of two basic recursive sub-algorithms, i.e., recursive random bisection elimination (RRBE) and recursive greedy binary election (RGBE), which somewhat embody the idea of "divide-and-conquer". By inspecting smaller and potential feature subsets in recursive ways, better subsets are returned automatically. A comprehensive experimental study was conducted on 14 UCI and ASU benchmark datasets with feature sizes ranging from dozens to thousands by using REE together with 6 state-of-the-art metaheuristic algorithms for comparison. The results show that the proposed REE has competitive search ability for feature selection problems, and it is especially prominent in handling high-dimensional datasets.
