This paper reconstructs the history of the publications relating to the results of Captain Montagu Brownlow Parker's 1909–1911 excavations in Jerusalem, comprising the English and French versions of the book Underground Jerusalem by Père Louis-Hugues Vincent, and four articles by that same author appearing in the pages of Revue Biblique. The significant part played by the English translator, Theodore Andrea Cook, is shown, and as it transpires, he is the reason why archival materials relating to the Parker expedition eventually ended up in the Palestine Exploration Fund's archives. Importantly, an unpublished drawing by Vincent of an Iron Age stone toilet seat, which had been referred to by the excavators as the 'Throne of Solomon', was found among these archival materials. The paper investigates thirteen similar parallel stone toilet seats from the Iron Age II and examines what is known concerning issues of sanitation during that period in the Kingdom of Judah. This paper discusses the establishment of the first Protestant church in midnineteenth-century Jerusalem, under Ottoman rule, relying mainly on British Foreign Office archives. It begins with an introduction to the geopolitical context for the spread of Protestantism in Greater Syria, with particular focus on Palestine, including Britain's initial diplomatic efforts to achieve this goal and the challenges it faced on different fronts. The discussion situates these challenges and the ways Britain overcame them within the context of Ottoman imperial regulations, which recurringly stalled or halted construction efforts. As a result, Britain's hopes of establishing a Protestant church in Jerusalem, and the Ottoman sultan's frequent obstruction of these efforts, reflect the layered British-Ottoman relations in the nineteenth century. The paper ends with an examination of the ways the British government managed to secure an Ottoman permit (firman) issued by the sultan, that allowed the completion of the church's construction in 1849. Although Jerusalem is one of the most photographed places in the world, few works have focused on the existence of its former 800-year-old Maghrebi Quarter, located in the shadow of the Western Wall. Founded in 1193 by Saladin's son, al-Afdal Ali to house Muslim pilgrims from North Africa (today Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya), the Quarter was razed by Israeli bulldozers on the night of 10-11 June 1967. Its 1,000 or so inhabitants were forced to flee within hours. Silenced by the occupation of East Jerusalem as part of the Six-Day War, the existence of the Maghrebi Quarter faded behind the walls of history. This research paper describes how 55 years after its razing, the selection of a corpus of archives, combined with 3D technology and Interprofessional collaborations between historians and 3D designers enable making a forgotten history accessible again. Beyond a discussion on methods and technical process, this research paper aims to highlight the potential applications of the data set and the 3D model not only for scholarly research but also for pedagogical purposes, for instance. The archive of the Palestine Exploration Fund is a rich depository of material of historical value, comprising photographs, hand-written letters, maps and drawings, and serving scholars across the world. It includes primary documentation relating to the sacred enclosure of the Haram al-Sharif in Jerusalem, which was the focus of research made by Ermete Pierotti, Charles W. Wilson, Charles Warren, Claude Regnier Conder, Clermont-Ganneau, and Conrad Schick, among others. This paper examines materials relating to the original function of Robinson's Arch, with the suggestion that already in 1867 Warren was the first to recognize it as an arch for a flight of stairs, rather than as part of a viaduct bridge crossing the Tyropoeon Valley which was the consensus of opinion prevailing until late in the twentieth century. This paper also investigates a little-known clash that took place in 1880 between two of the pioneers of Jerusalem archaeology, namely Wilson and Warren. The result of this dispute was the publication in 1884 of the now greatly regarded large format portfolio of maps and plans of the Temple Mount ('Warren's Atlas'), which has been an enormous boon for research on ancient Jerusalem ever since. Finally, this paper looks at the possibility that subterranean vaulted chambers may have existed within the north-eastern angle of the Haram al-Sharif, if we accept the accuracy of Schick's model of the Haram from 1873 and a description of exploration of subterranean chambers in that area made by Peter Richardson in a letter to the PEF from 1874. Ten early 16th century Athonite documents are preserved in the library of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in Jerusalem, in Codex Hierosolymitanus no. 370 of the Manuscript Collection of the Holy Sepulture (Panagios Taphos). This manuscript is a miscellany consisting of various texts. It was copied around the mid–16th century by the Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem Germanos, who added to it fragments deriving from older paper manuscripts. Today it consists of 481 folia, of which 114, 200–215, 328–331, 340, 341, 425–428, and 472–474 are blank. The copies of the 10 Athonite documents are scattered between ff. 154 and 378. Photographs of Codex no. 370 are freely accessible online in the site of the Library of Congress of the USA1. The existence of Athonite documents in this manuscript was first announced in 1891 by A. The history of Jerusalem through the Jordanian period is still largely unexplored by historiography. Generally overlooked and presented as an “immobile” or “declining” age, a mere transition between the Mandate rule and the Israeli occupation, Lemire and Rioli point out that instead it constitutes a dynamic phase of profound transformations and projects attempted by the public and private institutions in the city in the tragic aftermath of the war for Palestine. New studies have recently enlightened the life of the Jerusalem municipality during this period. This paper aims at focusing on three main aspects: first, can historians narrate a “potential history” of the Jordanian period? How would this “potential history” differ from that retraced during the late Ottoman and Mandate periods? Are Jerusalem’s archives a “space of possibility”? Second, which expectations and projects, conflicts, and desires emerge from the city inhabitants, refugees, and institutions? Third, focusing on a specific neighborhood, al-Maghariba quarter, is this phase simply a period of “predestruction,” to be analyzed under the somber light of the 1967 events, or rather a time of restoration and re-foundation, of tensions and impulses? Through these questions, the authors intend to propose some strands for social histories of the 1947–67 period, opening new itineraries to review a crucial phase of Jerusalem history. “Al-Ma‘rad” (The Exhibition), curated by Nadi Abusaada and designer Luzan Munayer, was held 10 August to 30 November 2022 at the Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center (KSCC) in Ramallah. The double significance of the word ma‘rid links this exhibition intimately to its subject: the Arab Trade Fairs of 1933 and 1934. The exhibition highlights the socio-political environment prevailing around the two Arab fairs by displaying objects such as artwork and journal archives, as well as some artefacts from the venue of the fairs – the Palace Hotel in Jerusalem.
