Green ammonia, produced through renewable energy-powered electrochemical and thermal processes, is emerging as a promising candidate to replace fossil fuel-based ammonia in the fertiliser, transportation and energy sectors. This paper provides an overview of the production methods, utilisation methods and technological advancements for green ammonia. The electrochemical production and Haber-Bosch with renewable hydrogen and energy are discussed in detail highlighting recent material advances. Green ammonia utilisation methods are discussed with direct use cases such as ammonia combustion and direct ammonia fuel cells examined. Green ammonia’s potential as a carbon-free hydrogen carrier is also discussed in regards to ammonia cracking for effective hydrogen recovery. This paper concludes that green ammonia has the potential to play a significant role in the transition to a sustainable energy system and offers new opportunities for the fertiliser, transportation and energy industries. In the context of the global shift towards sustainable energy sources, this paper reviews the potential and roadmap for hydrogen energy as a crucial component of the clean energy landscape. The primary objective is to present a comprehensive literature overview, illuminating key themes, trends, and research gaps in the scientific discourse concerning hydrogen production and energy policy. This review focuses particularly on specified geographic contexts, with an emphasis on understanding the unique energy policies related to renewable energy in Brazil, Austria, and Germany. Given their distinct social systems and developmental stages, this paper aims to delineate the nuanced approaches these countries adopt in their pursuit of renewable energy and the integration of hydrogen within their energy frameworks. Brazil exhibits vast renewable energy potential, particularly in wind and solar energy sectors, positioning itself for substantial growth in the coming years. Germany showcases a regulatory framework that promotes innovation and technological expansion, reflecting its highly developed social system and commitment to transitioning away from fossil fuels. Due to concerns with air pollution and climate change, governments and transport operators around the world have engaged in transforming their fossil-fueled vehicles into electric vehicles (EVs). It is essential to build a model for the electrifying process to minimize the operation costs. This paper presents a systematic analytical approach for the electrification of a fire ambulance service station. This approach begins with the selection of suitable EVs to replace the current service vehicles. Subsequently, an in-depth analysis is conducted to determine the practical utilization of EVs at the station. The model proposes two charging strategies: immediate charging upon an EVs' return and smart charging. Based on the chosen EVs and charging strategies, a comprehensive assessment of the load profiles for the planned EV charging station is performed. In accordance with the load profiles, a mathematical model to minimize the infrastructure and operation costs of the charging station is proposed. Various pricing schemes are compared to identify the most efficient pricing scheme for the charging station, and economic analyses of the EVs and traditional ambulance vehicles are proposed in this paper. The test results indicate that the progressive pricing scheme is well suited for immediate charging strategies, whereas smart charging should opt for the time-of-use pricing scheme. This paper presents a comprehensive and systematic review of virtual reality (VR) as an innovative educational tool specifically for solar photovoltaic energy systems. VR technology, with its immersive and interactive capabilities, offers a unique platform for in-depth learning and practical training in the field of solar energy. The use of VR in this context not only enhances the understanding of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems but also provides a hands-on experience that is crucial for developing the necessary skills in this rapidly evolving field. Among the 6814 articles initially identified, this systematic review specifically examined 15 articles that focused on the application of VR in PV education. These selected articles demonstrate VR's ability to accurately simulate real-world environments and scenarios related to solar energy, providing an in-depth exploration of its practical applications in this field. By offering a realistic and detailed exploration of PV systems, VR enables learners to gain a deeper understanding of harnessing, managing and using such a vast energy resource. The paper further discusses the implications of employing VR in educational settings, highlighting its potential to change the way solar energy professionals are trained, thereby contributing significantly to the acceleration of photovoltaic technology adoption and its integration into sustainable energy solutions. Solar panels are an environmentally friendly alternative to fossil fuels; however, their useful life is limited to approximately 25 years, after which they become a waste management issue. Proper management and recycling of end-of-life (EOL) solar panels are paramount. It protects the environment because of the high energy consumption of silicon production. We can effectively decrease energy and cost requirements by recovering silicon from recycled solar panels. This is one-third of those needed for manufacturing silicon directly. Moreover, solar panels include heavy metals, such as lead, tin, and cadmium, which pose risks to human health and the environment. Empirical evidence suggests that the costs of mining materials can exceed those of recycled materials, thereby making recycling a more cost-effective means of resource harvesting. This review paper focuses on the techniques developed to delaminate solar panels, which are considered a crucial step in the recycling of EOL solar panels. Initially, various classifications of solar panels are given. Subsequently, an analysis of the diverse methods of solar panel delamination and their efficacy in the retrieval of valued materials is presented. This investigation has identified three primary modes of delamination, namely mechanical, thermal, and chemical. Among these, mechanical delamination is deemed to be a sustainable and cost-effective option when compared to thermal and chemical delamination. The current most popular method of thermal delamination is characterized by its high energy consumption and potential emission, and the chemical delamination generates hazardous liquids that pose their own threat to the environment. This study emphasizes the mechanical delamination techniques, characterized by their environmentally friendly nature, minimal ecological footprint, and capacity to retrieve entire glass panels intact. This paper also discusses the current gaps and potential enhancements for mechanical delamination techniques. For example, some delamination techniques result in crushed materials. Thus, the handling and recovery of materials such as glass and silicon cells require the implementation of an appropriate sorting technique. With the continuous transformation of the global power system, ensuring the flexibility and stability of the power system has become a direction that the global energy industry has been striving for. This puts forward higher requirements for load forecasting, especially high‐precision short‐term residential load forecasting. However, the high volatility and uncertainty of electric consumption make this problem challenging. Existing methods usually focus on capturing temporal correlations and ignore the underlying spatial correlations in historical loads, which is crucial for accurate forecasting. In this paper, we propose a novel spatial–temporal gated fusion network (STGNet) for short‐term residential load forecasting including not only individual residential load but also aggregated load. By seeking both adaptive neighbors and temporal similarity neighbors, we construct a dynamic graph based on a data‐driven method. On this basis, we provide an adaptive graph gated fusion mechanism to capture fine‐grained node‐specific spatial dependence more accurately and comprehensively. Finally, a bidirectional gated recurrent unit (BiGRU) is utilized to learn the temporal dependence of load data. Water scarcity is a global problem that particularly affects islands located in arid regions or regions with limited water resources. This issue has prompted the development of non-conventional water sources such as fossil fuel-powered desalination systems. Concern about the high energy and environmental costs associated with this type of facility has created the ideal framework for the proliferation of desalination projects powered by renewable energies, especially wind energy due to the multiple advantages it offers. This article provides a bibliometric analysis to identify the advances made in wind-powered desalination on islands. While many studies explore wind-powered desalination, none compile references specific to islands. This paper analyses islands' desalination needs and showcases wind-powered systems, exploring their types and uses. Firstly, the most relevant international scientific journals are identified to allow the subsequent selection and quantitative and qualitative analysis of articles directly dealing with wind-powered desalination systems. A total of 2344 articles obtained from the Scopus database were analyzed, of which 144 including 181 case studies were selected. Among the results of this study, an increasing year-on-year trend is observed in the number of published studies tackling wind-powered desalination. Finally, this paper presents a series of maps showing the most relevant facilities, projects, and data in this field, and provides an overview of the lessons learned in the decarbonization of desalination. Offshore wind energy is considered as one of the most promising resources of clean and renewable energy to replace fossil fuels. Additionally, its cost is expected to be lower than onshore wind energy as the technology matures. Offshore wind turbines (OWTs) normally operate in harsh ocean environments, which could impact their structural integrity. Scour erosion around foundations of OWTs can substantially change the overall stiffness of these structures and shorten their lifetime. Currently, there are a limited number of studies on countermeasures and their engineering requirements for decreasing the scouring effect; this is due to their different hydraulic circumstances, such as their stability, reliability, and resistance capacity. To this end, advancements in scour protection measures in the offshore energy sector are evaluated in this paper through a thorough and critical review following the PRISMA systematic literature mapping approach. This includes 68 papers on scour protection and over 30 scour protection designs for various types of wind turbine foundations. Here, we aim to provide an overview of the latest scouring protection measures and their comprehensive assessment, as well as their prospects and future challenges. The findings of this study will provide key insights into scour protection measures for OWTs and will subsequently contribute to the future growth of the offshore renewable energy sector. This paper reviews evidence on how the fast growth in renewable energy technologies can trigger social tipping dynamics that potentially accelerate a system-wide energy transition. It does so by reviewing a variety of literature across several disciplines addressing socio-technical dimensions of energy transitions. The tipping dynamics in wind and solar power create potential for cascading effects to energy demand sectors, including household energy demand. These most likely start with shift actions and adoption of household-scale batteries and heat pumps. Key enablers are strong regulations incentivising reductions in demand and setting minimum efficiency levels for buildings and appliances. While there is evidence of spillovers to more environmentally friendly behaviour, the extent of these and the key leverage points to bring them about present a knowledge gap. Moreover, these behavioural feedback loops require strong additional policy support to "make them stick". Understanding the economic and social tipping dynamics in a system can empower decision-makers, fostering realistic energy transition policies. This paper highlights energy communities as a promising niche for leveraging tipping dynamics. Fault detection and localization are vital for ensuring the stability of data center networks (DCNs). Specifically, adaptive fault diagnosis is deemed a fundamental technology in achieving the fault tolerance of systems. The highly scalable data center network (HSDC) is a promising structure of server-centric DCNs, as it exhibits the capacity for incremental scalability, coupled with the assurance of low cost and energy consumption, low diameter, and high bisection width. In this paper, we first determine that both the connectivity and diagnosability of the m-dimensional complete HSDC, denoted by H S D C m (m) , are m. Further, we propose an efficient adaptive fault diagnosis algorithm to diagnose an H S D C m (m) within three test rounds, and at most N + 4 m (m − 2) tests with m ≥ 3 (resp. at most nine tests with m = 2 ), where N = m · 2 m is the total number of nodes in H S D C m (m) . Our experimental outcomes demonstrate that this diagnosis scheme of HSDC can achieve complete diagnosis and significantly reduce the number of required tests. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The global energy crisis, which began in 2021 due to the extraordinary economic recovery after the pandemic and intensified after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has changed the conditions of energy management, paying more attention to energy efficiency. Natural gas prices have reached record levels and, consequently, so have electricity prices in some markets. Oil prices have reached their highest level since 2008. Higher energy prices have contributed to sharply increased inflation. Households are again becoming interested in buying coal as a source of heat. High energy and gas prices have pushed many families into poverty and forced some factories to cut production or even close. They have also slowed economic growth to the point where some countries are heading for a serious recession. Paradoxically, the negative effects of the energy crisis may accelerate the introduction of cleaner, sustainable, renewable energy such as wind and solar energy. The energy crisis is comparable to the oil crisis of the 1970s, when it contributed to significant advances in energy efficiency. The current crisis has highlighted the importance of investments in renewable energy resources and initiated the process of integrating regional markets, developing energy efficiency and promoting renewable energies. The aim of this article is to comprehensively explore the complex relationship between energy awareness, consumption patterns, and energy efficiency, with a focus on both individual consumers and industries, during the global energy crisis. This paper is based on a literature review, overarching policy documents, energy reports, and other secondary documents. The primary research method was the systematic literature review method, based on which the impact of the global energy crisis on energy efficiency was evaluated. This study emphasizes the diverse influences on energy awareness, ranging from economic factors to consumer preferences and environmental consciousness. The findings of the paper underscore the significant responsibility of industries in contributing to energy-saving efforts and the active role of consumers in the energy market. The responsibility of industries in contributing to energy efficiency is highlighted, with a call for a comprehensive approach that integrates energy-saving criteria into product development and corporate social responsibility. A major goal of the "14th Five-Year Plan" phase is to promote the green transformation of industrial enterprises to address the 'dual carbon' challenge. Utilizing the China Industrial Enterprises Database and the Polluting Enterprises Database, this paper calculates the carbon emissions of Chinese industrial enterprises from 2001 to 2010 at the micro level. It presents an analysis of the heterogeneity of carbon emission efficiency (TPI) in industrial enterprises, as well as the factors influencing corporate TPI. This study finds that enterprises within a subdivided industry exhibit heterogeneous levels of TPI, with carbon emissions largely affected by the structure of energy consumption. The researchers suggest accelerating the transition of industrial enterprises to green technology and argue that carbon emission policies should shift from controlling direct total targets to strengthening market-oriented policy tools. Carbon reduction targets should be more stringent for enterprises with lower TPI, considering the heterogeneity among enterprises. To meet the challenges of emission reduction, industrial enterprises are encouraged to actively reform their energy consumption structure. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, ventilation in buildings was not always given its due importance. The World Health Organization has highlighted the important role of air exchange with the outdoors in improving the air quality in buildings; buildings should, therefore, be equipped with mechanical ventilation or adequate air conditioning systems. This paper aims to investigate different retrofit solutions for air conditioning, evaluating them in terms of energy consumption and cost and the impact of increased outdoor air exchange rates on countering the propagation of COVID-19; the latter is the main novelty of the paper. As a case study, we take an existing office building located in Central Italy that was previously not equipped with a mechanical ventilation system (a system with primary air was introduced during the study). The energy analysis was conducted using dynamic simulation software after validation through energy bills; energy and economic analyses were conducted considering different external-air exchange rates. An optimal number of outdoor air changes was found to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 infection, a finding in line with the international literature. The increase in air changes with outdoor air leads to a rise in energy consumption and costs. These values were evaluated for different air conditioning systems and operational schedules. Over the past few years, the offshore wind sector has been subject to renewed yet growing interest from the industry and from the research sphere, with a particular focus on a recently developed concept, the floating offshore wind (FOW). Because of its novelty, floating research material is found in limited quantity. This paper focuses on the layout optimization of a floating offshore wind farm (FOWF) considering multiple parameters and engineering constraints, combining floating-specific parameters together with economic indicators. Today's common wind farm layout optimization codes do not take into account either floating-specific technical parameters (anchors, mooring lines, inter-array cables (IACs), etc.) or non-technical parameters (operational expenditure, OPEX; capital expenditure, CAPEX; and other techno-economic project parameters). In this paper, a multi-parametric objective function is used in the optimization of the layout of a FOWF, combining the annual energy production (AEP) together with the costs that depend on the layout. The mooring system and the collection system including the inter-array cables and the offshore substation are identified as layout-dependent and therefore modeled in the optimization loop. Using ScotWind site 10 as a study case, it was found with the predefined technical and economic assumptions that the profit was increased by EUR 34.5 million compared to a grid-based layout. This paper introduces a 17-bus 500 kV test system intended for transmission expansion planning (TEP) studies. The overhead lines used in the system are based on an actual 500 kV transmission line geometry. Although several test systems have been developed for various forms of power system analysis, few are specifically tailored for TEP studies at the transmission voltage level, as opposed to the distribution voltage level. Current test systems for TEP studies are limited to single loading conditions only for normal operating conditions, and the majority of these systems are intertwined with issues related to the energy market or devised specifically for integrating new generations and loads into the existing power systems. However, ensuring a test system satisfies both voltage drop and line loading criteria during both normal and all single contingency operations is crucial in TEP studies, and addressing these issues under contingency conditions poses notable challenges. Moreover, practical TEP scenarios involve varied loadings, including peak load and dominant loading (60% of peak load) scenarios, while the existing test systems are configured solely for single loading conditions. To address these technical gaps, this paper introduces the 17-bus test system operating at a transmission voltage level of 500 kV, meeting technical requirements under normal and all single contingency operations for both peak load and dominant load scenarios. Detailed specifications of the proposed test system and load flow analysis at both normal and contingency conditions for different loading conditions are presented. Electric vehicles (EVs) play a crucial role in the global transition towards decarbonization and renewable energy resources (RERs). As EVs gain popularity, this has resulted in various challenges for the power grid, such as an intensified peak-to-valley load differential, causing transformer overloading. Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology has emerged as a promising solution due to its controllable charging and discharging capabilities. Mature business schemes can incentivize the development of V2G technology. However, the business schemes of V2G technology are still unclear. Therefore, this paper provides a comprehensive review of the business schemes associated with V2G technology, especially focusing on its feasibility and challenges with respect to the electricity market. In this paper, several business schemes with respect to the electricity market are explored by conducting extensive literature reviews, including peak-to-valley arbitrage, the spot market, demand–response (DR), frequency regulation, voltage regulation, spinning reserve, and black start. Next, application scenarios and real-world use cases of the V2G technology's business schemes are investigated. Furthermore, the challenges faced by the V2G technology's business schemes are assessed by considering the technical, economical, and social aspects. By identifying these challenges, it is important to highlight the existing shortcomings and areas of interest for V2G technology's research and development. Renewable energy sources (RESs) offer key transformative potential from a societal point of view due to their modularity and ability to generate energy at the local level, allowing for the development of grassroots democratic and participatory initiatives. The paper aims to share insights into the processes of creating RES cooperatives in Poland. One of the first cooperatives to be established in the Upper Silesian region in Poland was the energy cooperative (EC) "Our Energy". This study presents an in-depth empirical analysis of a community-based renewable energy cooperative. The study employed a case study methodology, including a SWOT analysis framework, to describe the research subject and identify its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Key findings indicate that members benefit from stable energy prices and full recovery of the energy produced, and the cooperative is at the forefront of energy-sharing practices that minimize costs through direct transactions with the local municipality. The strategic goals of the EC focus on expanding membership, increasing the number of photovoltaic installations, implementing energy balancing, combating energy poverty, and reducing emissions. Challenges such as financial constraints and a lack of real-time monitoring of energy distribution are acknowledged, and carbon footprint reduction innovations and stakeholder engagement are highlighted as forward-looking approaches. The study highlights the role of cooperatives as a model for community-led sustainable energy initiatives. However, the study acknowledges the limitations of its small sample size, suggesting the need for broader research to understand the impact of collaborative energy on decarbonization. Future research directions are proposed, focusing on the long-term sustainability and socioeconomic impacts of energy cooperatives. This study contributes to the scholarly discourse on renewable energy cooperatives by offering insight into their potential to bridge the gap between energy producers and consumers and support sustainable community development. The main objective of this paper is to review the energy management of a community microgrid using adaptable renewable energy sources. Community microgrids have grown up as a viable strategy to successfully integrate renewable energy sources (RES) into local energy distribution networks in response to the growing worldwide need for sustainable and dependable energy solutions. This study presents an in-depth examination of the energy management tactics employed in community microgrids using adaptive RES, covering power generation, storage, and consumption. Energy communities are an innovative yet successful prosumer idea for the development of local energy systems. It is based on decentralized energy sources and the flexibility of electrical users in the community. Local energy communities serve as testing grounds for innovative energy practices such as cooperative microgrids, energy independence, and a variety of other exciting experiments as they seek the most efficient ways to interact both internally and with the external energy system. We discuss several energy management tactics utilized in community microgrids with flexible RES, Which include various renewable energy sources (wind, solar power, mechanical vibration energy) and storage devices. Various energy harvesting techniques have also been discussed in this paper. It also includes information on various power producing technology. Given the social, environmental, and economic benefits of a particular site for such a community, this paper proposes an integrated technique for constructing and efficiently managing community microgrids with an internal market. The interfacial tension is a crucial property of two-phase immiscible liquid. However, many researchers are not aware about the fact that its value is far from being constant for many pairs of liquids. The paper presents the measurements of interfacial tension time-dependencies for various oils against distilled water and assesses how it affects electrohydrodynamic processes in two-phase immiscible liquids. Primary results were obtained using an optical tensiometer (the pendant drop method). Further on, several computations of droplet electrodeformation were performed and compared to the relevant experimental data to independently check the reliability of the measurements. It was found that the decrease with time of the interfacial tension against water is specific for a lot of liquids, in particular, for many vegetable oils and even for transformer oils after it being used in power transformers. The change of the interfacial tension with time is shown to be a realistic cause for the emergence of the so-called cone-dimple mode of electrocoalescence, which was earlier reported in experimental studies. The aim of this paper is to provide a comprehensive overview of how electricity is produced from different sources and the electricity needs of the consumer. According to the Green Deal pact, the objective is to gradually reduce polluting emissions in the energy sector by 2050. In the meantime, the CO2 intensive thermal power plants (those using coal and heavy oil) will be closed and strategic investments in green energy sources will be pursued. This paper presents a detailed analysis of the profile of the Romanian electricity producer over a period of one year. Furthermore, this paper explores the possibility for the energy producer to adapt to consumer demand to reduce electricity imports, strategic locations for the installation of farms using renewable energy, and the current capacity of the national distribution system. This paper analyses electricity only quantitatively and not qualitatively, as well as the way the supplier follows consumers' need. Innovative activities are increasingly decentralized and globally dispersed, which provides new upgrading opportunities for emerging market firms. However, little is known about how latecomer firms (re-)organize their research and development (R&D) over time as conditions for upgrading change. This paper systematically maps the R&D networks of China's lead firms in the wind turbine industry. The empirical findings reveal that latecomer firms not only exploit but increasingly co-create vanguard knowledge in global R&D networks through organizational diversification. Taking an evolutionary perspective, the paper extends our understanding of the changing nature of upgrading mechanisms and provides new insights into the reorganization of innovation processes in an era of technological change. To effectively address the challenges posed by the increasing share of the energy sector in global greenhouse effects, the domains of energy informatics and energy citizenship play a critical role. Energy informatics aims at using information systems and channels to reduce energy consumption. However, there is a realization that the challenges posed by global greenhouse effects cannot be catered to alone by the energy information systems. Therefore, there is a need for engaging human inhabitants to actively engage toward more sustainable means (i.e., energy citizenship) thus reducing the energy sector's share in the global greenhouse effect. This paper presents a systematic literature review (SLR) after analysis of (n = 115) articles on the topic to identify (i) the themes considered in energy informatics and energy citizenship domains, and (ii) the interconnection between energy informatics and energy citizenship domains, (iii) energy information needs among stakeholders which establish a clear interconnect with energy citizenship. These identified themes and their interconnections are critical for energy researchers, policymakers, and energy businesses to identify relevant research topics, identify energy consumers' needs, and create just energy transition policies. The paper additionally summarizes the gaps in the state of the art by mentioning the open research questions that arise due to the identified interconnection between energy informatics and energy citizenship. Purpose: With a growing demand for safe, clean and affordable energy, emerging economies (EEs) across the globe are now seeking to create and rapidly develop renewable energy (RE) businesses. The success of these businesses often hinges on their ability to translate RE into sustainable value for energy consumers and the multiple stakeholders in this industry. Such value includes low production costs due to an abundance of natural resources (e.g. wind, water and sunlight) and public health benefits from reduced environmental pollution. With that in mind, this paper aims to gauge RE's potential for sustainable value creation and then develop an effective RE business strategy. Design/methodology/approach: This paper develops a structural equation model, conducts an exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analyses with and without common latent factors and proposes a moderated mediation analysis to identify a host of factors that influence the success of RE businesses. Findings: This paper discovers that RE business performance is significantly affected by integrated vision, intellectual capital and social capital. Originality/value: To the best of the authors' knowledge, this paper is one of the first empirical studies that identify various factors influencing successful RE businesses in EEs such as Asian (e.g. China and India) and Latin American countries. Although there are some issues and concerns about the World Trade Organization dispute settlement system, it remains an effective tool for countries to find reasonable solutions for their trading problems. This paper aims to identify the mechanisms of the settlement process between WTO members and to provide a relevant review of the European Union's trade disputes, in particular for energy sector cases. For this purpose, the paper implies a conceptual and descriptive framework and a qualitative approach regarding the EU's trade disputes, especially for energy sector. The results show that the EU is one of the most frequent members in trade disputes, but most of them are concluded. At the same time, most of the cases in the energy sector remain in the consultation phase, the EU being complained by Argentina, Indonesia, Russia, China and Malaysia for sectors related to biodiesel, renewable energy generation and oil palm-based biofuels. The purpose of this paper is to determine whether the current Project Management Maturity Models (PMMM) described in the literature are suitable for the South African (SA) power sector. The research objective of this paper is to map the main PMMM to address the suitability for the SA power sector. The research question this paper addresses is: "How are the main maturity models in project management for the SA power sector?" The study is based on a literature review. The literature search is categorized over a 19-year period from 2000 to 2019 using 28 databases. The analysis covered data from published papers, conference papers, government white papers, books, and relevant materials of the institutions. This analysis was undertaken to decide whether there was a need to develop a PMMM for SA's power sector. The paper establishes characteristics of the SA power sector through a literature review and a PESTLE analysis. The findings of the study indicate that the bulk of the models were adaptations of existing models. The ones that are not direct adaptions are discussed in this paper. The findings indicate that the current models are not completely suitable for SA's power sector. Large multinational projects taking place in SA need to consider the SA environment before entering SA markets in the power sector. The current literature indicates that there is a gap pertaining to a PMMM for SA's power sector. The theoretical contribution of the paper identifies the characteristics of SA power sector; lists the current maturity models and provides an analysis of 28 models and assesses the suitability of the current PMMM for the SA power sector. Energy efficiency has become a major concern for manufacturing systems, due to industry being the largest user of scarce, finite energy sources, and also to recent events which have pushed energy prices to alarming levels. In the present Industry 4.0 context, Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems (RMS) are therefore one of the most promising manufacturing paradigm. In this paper, we investigate the suitability of one of the most common types of RMS, the Parallel-Serial manufacturing line with Crossover, to help minimise the peak of the electric power consumption. More specifically, the balancing of such a production line is studied, so as to integrate power peak minimisation from the design stage. Thus, we define the Parallel-Serial-with-Crossover Assembly Line Balancing Problem with Power Peak Minimization, a new combinatorial NP-hard problem. We also propose a suitable time-indexed Integer Linear Program that integrates balancing and scheduling decisions and a matheuristic algorithm designed to tackle large-size instances. Both approaches are tested on a wide set of instances. The computational results show that relevant power peak reductions can be achieved (33% on average), opening up promising perspectives from both algorithmic and managerial viewpoints. Digital Twins (DTs) have attracted great attention in the energy sector. Game engines have been suggested to model DTs of their physical counterparts because they provide realistic graphics, lighting-, fluid- and physics engines that simulate the real world. However, the application of game engines to develop DTs for photovoltaics (PVs) has not yet been discussed in the literature. Therefore, this paper assesses the built-in game engine features' ability to support the DT development of PVs with Unreal Engine 5. This paper mainly focuses on visual representation because the surrounding environment significantly impacts PV deployment, and the existing software tools do not allow the study of the environmental factors at the early planning phase of a project's lifecycle. Furthermore, this paper investigates the position of the sun, shadows and reflections from nearby objects that influence the PVs' power output, and if the built-in light engine can be used for planning the deployment of PVs. The result shows that in-game objects in the environment can be used to affect the simulated PV output estimate over a year. It also indicates that applying Unreal Engine 5 to model PV systems that rely on mirroring real-world behaviour is promising if accurate data is used in the modelling. Real data and mathematical PV models are necessary since Unreal Engine 5's Lumen subsystem cannot provide realistic solar radiance on PVs for a given location on earth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a stochastic approach to assessing the hosting capacity for solar PV. The method is part of the optimal techniques for the integration of renewables. There are two types of uncertainties, namely aleatory and epistemic uncertainties. The epistemic and aleatory uncertainties influence distribution networks' hosting capacity differently. The combination of the two uncertainties influences the planning of distribution networks. The study introduces and considers the epistemic probability distribution function (PDF). DSO does take levels of risk for a parameter violation when planning. Epistemic PDF is a range of values of the planning risk margin for quantifying the hosting capacity. The planning risk acknowledges that overvoltages may occur at weaker conceivable locations in a distribution network. In the paper, it has been shown that the number of customers who will be able to connect solar PV in future is influenced by the DSO's planning risk margin. The DSO can be stricter or less strict in planning risk margin. It has been concluded that fewer customers can connect solar PV to a distribution network when a DSO takes a stricter planning risk. Alternatively, more customers can connect solar PV units for a less strict planning risk. How stricter or less strict the DSO is with the planning risk margin determines the investment needed for mitigation measures. The mitigation measures in the future will lead to not exceeding the overvoltage limit when solar PV is connected to the weaker conceivable points of the distribution network. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The energy sector plays a crucial role in addressing the global challenges of achieving sustainability by using renewable energy sources as well as by increasing energy efficiency and conservation while gaining energy security and safety. Choosing an appropriate research method to investigate the energy sector's management has become more complex, involving multiple factors such as technical, environmental, social, political and economic. Additionally, considering the important role of energy in modern society, it is imperative to study the current methods used in examining the energy sector and to create an appropriate theory of the managing energy sector enterprises in the future. The main purpose of this review paper is to explore which research methods and approaches are utilized by researchers studying the issues of the managing energy sector enterprises. This article presents a systematic review based on a qualitative synthesis of the accessible publications from the Scopus database. In this review, which also adhered to strict search and filter criteria, a total of 77 articles were selected and synthesized. The selected papers met the inclusion criteria and a bibliometric visualization approach was applied using MAXQDA2020 software. The present paper reveals existing research trends in utilizing various research approaches in the energy sector from the perspective of management sciences in the last ten years and also provides future research avenues in the discussed area of knowledge. The concept of the digital twin has been adopted as an important aspect in digital transformation of power systems. Although the notion of the digital twin is not new, its adoption into the energy sector has been recent and has targeted increased operational efficiency. This paper is focused on addressing an important gap in the research literature reviewing the state of the art in utilization of digital twin technology in microgrids, an important component of power systems. A microgrid is a local power network that acts as a dependable island within bigger regional and national electricity networks, providing power without interruption even when the main grid is down. Microgrids are essential components of smart cities that are both resilient and sustainable, providing smart cities the opportunity to develop sustainable energy delivery systems. Due to the complexity of design, development and maintenance of a microgrid, an efficient simulation model with ability to handle the complexity and spatio-temporal nature is important. The digital twin technologies have the potential to address the above-mentioned requirements, providing an exact virtual model of the physical entity of the power system. The paper reviews the application of digital twins in a microgrid at electrical points where the microgrid connects or disconnects from the main distribution grid, that is, points of common coupling. Background: The energy markets of Southeastern Europe largely depend on fossil fuels. Energy prices are lower in this region than in the rest of Europe, while the energy transition is relatively delayed. This paper aims at summarizing the obstacles to the civic energy transition in Southeastern Europe and the future prospects for its success. Results: In Southeastern Europe, there are great concerns about the uncertainty of the energy transition process and its outcomes. There is a lot of apprehensions that the transition could drift away from the citizens and end up in the hands of large-scale solar and wind farms entirely. In other words, citizens may be completely excluded from participating in the energy transition. Renewable energy cooperatives can serve as a crucial vehicle for organizing and engaging citizens in the energy transition. They can also be used as a lever of civic influence. This influence is crucial for ensuring a fair transition. The research methodology on cooperative development includes a literature review and a survey conducted with 240 participants. The participants were local government officials, members of NGOs, businesses, scholars, and citizens. The paper summarizes the answers to the questions which the authors considered essential for deepening our understanding of citizens' attitudes on a (just) energy transition. The results show that the public awareness about the energy transition has increased. In addition, participants have demonstrated a willingness to take action, both as individuals and through cooperative efforts. However, they have also shown a great level of mistrust in the government, mainly due to perceived corruption and lack of transparency. Generally speaking, they have doubts that the energy transition can be completed in a fair and timely manner within their national context. Conclusions: This paper provides insight into the current state of affairs and the prospects for the energy transition based on the attitudes of the citizens in Southeastern Europe. The paper argues that energy cooperatives should be employed as a training ground for the citizens, since, through joint actions, their trust in each other can be regained, rehearsed, and restored. Hybrid energy systems physically or conceptually combine various energy generation, storage, and/or conversion technologies to reduce costs and improve capability, value, efficiency, or environmental performance in comparison with independent alternatives. Hybridization is an interesting energy sector solution for plants to expand their flexibility, optimize revenues, and/or develop other useful products. Integrated hybrid energy systems' improved flexibility can hasten the integration of more renewable energy into the grid and help become closer to the target of zero-carbon energy grids. This paper aims to provide an updated literature review of design and applications of hybrid energy systems in buildings, focusing on economic, environmental, and technical viewpoints. This current study will analyze current and future trends toward hybrid energy systems for buildings and their functions in electrical energy networks as potential research study topics for the future. This study aims to enhance sustainable building techniques and the creation of effective electrical energy networks by offering insights into the design and applications of hybrid energy systems. The issue of reliability and the cost of failure or maintenance costs of renewable energy sources, including wind farms, is becoming increasingly important, especially as the volume of electricity supply from such installations increases. The purpose of the paper is to evaluate the development of wind energy in European countries between 2010 and 2020. Evaluating the reliability of wind farm components and ensuring that wind farm infrastructure is available at a high level is crucial to the stability of the electricity supply system. Therefore, the paper presents, as a case study, a reliability estimation of one of the wind farms operating in the North Sea. The analysis is carried out on the basis of empirical data obtained from experts involved in the maintenance of this wind farm. The estimated reliability function is an important reliability indicator for users of this system. On the basis of the evaluated reliability function, for example, the system availability can be improved, and the maintenance costs of the system can be optimised. Mathematical modelling was used to analyse system reliability. Further, in the developed reliability models, it was assumed that the system components have the multistate Weibull reliability functions with various parameters in their different reliability state subsets. In the context of the requirements for the transformation of the Polish energy sector, the presented approach can be used in the practical implementation of RES projects, taking into account the reliability of offshore wind farm installations. The innovation ecosystem of the new energy vehicle industry is highly complex and spans several sectors; it is important to increase the resistance of the new energy vehicle industry network. This paper explores regional resilience in the context of China's new energy vehicle industry. Using patent cooperation data from 2011 to 2021, we construct a three-stage urban collaborative innovation network and analyze its structural characteristics. We also develop a resilience evaluation index system to measure the resilience of the network and its nodes. Furthermore, we propose a framework for resilience analysis that operates at the network, community, and node levels. Through our analysis of the network's resilience characteristics and evolution, we investigate the driving mechanisms behind its formation using the exponential random graph model (ERGM). Empirical results demonstrate that the urban collaborative innovation network is expanding and strengthening, with increased resilience and the ability to withstand uncertainty. Notably, the distribution of node resilience exhibits spatial heterogeneity, with cities in the eastern and central regions demonstrating higher resilience than those in other areas. Furthermore, the study finds that economic development and investment in education and technology can enhance network connections and resilience. The global energy market has significantly developed in recent years; proof of this is the creation and promotion of smart grids and technical advances in energy commercialization and transmission. Specifically in the Brazilian context, with the recent modernization of the electricity sector, energy trading prices, previously published on a weekly frequency, are now available on an hourly domain. In this context, the definition and forecasting of prices become increasingly important factors for the economic and financial viability of energy projects. In this scenario of changes in the local regulatory framework, there is a lack of publications based on the new hourly prices in Brazil. This paper presents, in a pioneering way, the Dynamic Time Scan Forecasting (DTSF) method for forecasting hourly energy prices in Brazil. This method searches for similarity patterns in time series and, in previous investigations, showed competitive advantages concerning established forecasting methods. This research aims to test the accuracy of the DTSF method against classical statistical models and machine learning. We used the short-term prices of electricity in Brazil, made available by the Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber. The new DTSF model showed the best predictive performance compared to both the statistical and machine learning models. The DTSF performance was superior considering the evaluation metrics utilized in this paper. We verified that the predictions made by the DTSF showed less variability compared to the other models. Finally, we noticed that there is not an ideal model for all predictive 24 steps ahead forecasts, but there are better models at certain times of the day. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents original analysis of Macedonian energy sector. The options for installing RES capacities are investigated by using the EnergyPLAN software. Analysis was conducted for base scenario and two renewable scenarios designed for achieving a sustainable future with lower CO2 emissions, higher level of RES share, import independence and lower LCOE prices. The results have shown that achieving these goals is possible in the two renewable scenarios. The electricity production from RES is increased from 22.2% in Scenario 1 to 86% in Scenario 2 and 110% in Scenario 3. The annual CO2 emissions will decrease from 3.04Mt/annual in Scenario 1 to 0.67Mt/annual and 0.41Mt/annual in the second and third scenarios, respectively. This paper also analyzes how the change of CO2 prices can affect the LCOE. The LCOE increases by 103.8% in Scenario 1 when CO2 price increases from 20 to 100eur/t while in the third scenario increases by only 8.16% because of the low CO2 emissions. This shows how the renewable scenarios can be almost independent and predictable in terms of CO2 emissions and costs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This paper aims to investigate the impact of board characteristics on environmental, social and governance (ESG) disclosure in the energy industry of emerging economies. Design/methodology/approach: The authors adopt the Bloomberg ESG rating to measure the extent of ESG disclosure using a sample of 1,260 observations from BRICS emerging economies. Multiple regression techniques were used to estimate the effect of board characteristics on ESG disclosures of a sample Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) listed companies between 2010 and 2019. Findings: The authors find a relatively low (at 37%) level of ESG disclosure among the sampled firms and a relatively high degree of variability. The authors also find that board gender diversity, board composition and board diligence are positively related to the level of ESG disclosure while the study documents no relationship between board size and ESG disclosure. Practical implications: The study's findings highlight the importance of corporate board attributes in influencing strategic decisions such as the level of ESG disclosure and the findings may be useful to regulators, policymakers and investors in making informed investment decisions. Originality/value: To the best of the authors' knowledge, this study is one of the first attempts at examining the impact of board characteristics on ESG disclosure in the energy industry in emerging economies.
