Abstract In this paper we carry out an analysis of the semantic networks that are configured in the available lexicon of Spanish as a foreign language (SFL) learners in three centres of interest: "the human body", "school and university" and "animals". We analyse how these networks evolve as the level of Spanish increases, determine which types of relations between words are the most common in them and compare the graphs with the lists of words that appear in the availability surveys with a frequency equal to or greater than 20%. Next, we compare the semantic networks in SFL with those presented by native speakers of Spanish and we observe to what extent SFL students include in their surveys the words that reflect the specific notions of the Instituto Cervantes Curriculum Plan. Finally, we link all these data to their didactic application, with the aim of contributing to the improvement of vocabulary teaching in SFL.

In this paper we describe the compilation and analysis of a corpus of digital texts conformed by science communication articles written by linguists that discuss linguistic topics and that have been published in digital newspapers or digital magazines. The aims are twofold: on the one hand, to observe what aspects of linguistic work and research linguists are conveying to society in the informative texts that appear in the online press, and, on the other hand, to analyze the presence of terms related to lexical semantics in this corpus, which allows us to establish for them a terminological status specific to science communication and to include, in the terminographic work, examples of the use of these terms in science communication contexts. We do this within the framework provided by the projects on semantic terminology and terminological databases that are being developed at the Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Lingüística Aplicada of the University of Cádiz.
