In this work, paper spray (PS) is combined with atmospheric pressure photoionization-mass spectrometry (PS-APPI-MS) for the determination of non-polar and low polar compounds, such as the neutral per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS). The proposed PS-APPI-MS method has been developed for the analysis of fluorotelomer alcohols (FTOHs), fluoroctanesulfonamides (FOSAs) and fluorooctane sulfonamido-ethanols (FOSEs), using both negative ion mode and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). The most critical working parameters (i.e., UV-krypton lamp position, sample drying time, spray dopant solvent and spray voltage) have been evaluated to study both the ionization behaviour and ionization efficiency. The best results were achieved using dopant-assisted PS-APPI-HRMS with toluene as dopant solvent. The most intense ions observed in the mass spectra, [M‒H] ‒ for FOSAs and [M+O 2 ] ‒• for FTOHs and FOSEs, were selected and proposed for fast screening and quantitative analysis of target compounds in waterproof impregnation sprays samples using internal standard calibration method and being able to detect down to μg L -1 levels. The satisfactory values of the method quality parameters (detection capability, repeatability, trueness and linearity) demonstrated the good performance of the PS-APPI-HRMS method and allowed the identification and quantitation of some FTOHs (6:2 FTOH, 7-Me-6:2 FTOH, 8:2 FTOH, 10:2 FTOH) and N-MeFOSE at mg L -1 in some of the waterproof impregnation spray products analyzed. Purpose: The surface energy of the printing material can be increased to desired levels with different chemicals or methods. However, the important thing is that the surface properties of printing material are not affected negatively. In this way the aim of this paper provide that the surface properties of matte and glossy coated paper is improved by the argon containing atmospheric pressure plasma device because the plasma treatment method does not occur surface damaging on the papers. Design/methodology/approach: In experimental studies, test samples cut from 160 mm × 30 mm in size from 115 g/m2 gloss- and matt-coated papers were used. The plasma treatments of paper samples were carried out with an argon containing atmospheric pressure plasma device of laboratory scale that produces plasma of the corona discharge type at radio frequency. The optimized plasma parameters were at a frequency of 20 kHz and plasma power 200 W. A copper electrode of length 12 cm and diameter 2.5 mm was placed in the centre of the nozzle. Findings: Research findings showed that the surface energies of the papers increased with the increase in plasma application time. While the contact angle of the untreated glossy paper is 82.2, 8 second plasma applied G3 sample showed 54 contact angle value. Similarly, the contact angle of the base paper of matt coated is 91.1, while M3 is reduced to 60.4 contact angles by the increasing plasma time. Originality/value: Plasma treatment has shown that no chemical coating is needed to increase the wettability of the paper surface by reducing the contact angle between the paper and the water droplet. In addition, the surface energies of all papers treated by argon gas containing atmospheric pressure plasma, increased. Ambient ionization mass spectrometry (AIMS) has been developing explosively since its first debut. The ionization process was hence able to be achieved under atmospheric pressure, facilitating on-site field analysis in a variety of areas, such as clinical diagnosis, metabolic phenotyping, and surface analysis. As part of the ambitious goal of making MS a general device that can be used in everyday life, lots of efforts have been paid to miniaturize the ionization source. This review discusses avant-garde sources that could be entirely hand-held without any accessories. The structure and applications of the devices are described in detail as well. Cultural heritage conservation extends beyond individual interests, therefore preserving patrimony artworks is a timeless endeavor. This study proposes cold atmospheric plasma as a suitable method for the treatment of paper, deteriorated by cellulolytic bacteria. Three distinct methods of treating Bacillus velezensis isolated herein from an artificially deteriorated book were applied using cold atmospheric plasma. Bacteria were cultivated on membranes, in liquid media, and directly on paper. When used for five minutes at a power of 50 W and a current density of 12 mA/cm2, the designed cold atmospheric plasma device proved successful in preventing bacterial growth and spore formation. B. velezensis spore generation is a rare mechanism that has never been observed within these circumstances before. Moreover, the cold atmospheric plasma device can suppress the development of cellulolytic bacteria without damaging the paper substrate, which is a significant step in the preservation of patrimony artworks. Currently available European Alpine Altitude Climate Treatment (AACT) programs combine the physical characteristics of altitude with the avoidance of environmental triggers in the alpine climate and a personalized multidisciplinary pulmonary rehabilitation approach. The reduced barometric pressure, oxygen pressure, and air density, the relatively low temperature and humidity, and the increased UV radiation at moderate altitude induce several physiological and immunological adaptation responses. The environmental characteristics of the alpine climate include reduced aeroallergens such as house dust mites (HDM), pollen, fungi, and less air pollution. These combined factors seem to have immunomodulatory effects controlling pathogenic inflammatory responses and favoring less neuro‐immune stress in patients with different asthma phenotypes. The extensive multidisciplinary treatment program may further contribute to the observed clinical improvement by AACT in asthma control and quality of life, fewer exacerbations and hospitalizations, reduced need for oral corticosteroids (OCS), improved lung function, decreased airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), improved exercise tolerance, and improved sinonasal outcomes. Based on observational studies and expert opinion, AACT represents a valuable therapy for those patients irrespective of their asthma phenotype, who cannot achieve optimal control of their complex condition despite all the advances in medical science and treatment according to guidelines, and therefore run the risk of falling into a downward spiral of loss of physical and mental health. A sharp metal needle used as the ionization emitter in conventional atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) mass spectrometry (MS) is usually required for analyte ionization through corona discharge (i.e., gas discharge). Nevertheless, we herein demonstrate that an insulating fiber (tip diameter: 10-60 µm; length: ~ 1 cm) made of glass or bamboo can function as an APCI-like ionization emitter. Although no direct electric contact is made on the fiber, the ionization of volatiles and semi-volatiles occurs when the fiber is placed close (~ 1 mm) to the inlet of the mass spectrometer. No analyte ion signals can be observed without placing the insulating fiber in front of the mass spectrometer. The generation of ion species mainly relies on the electric field provided by the mass spectrometer. Presumably, owing to the high electric field provided by the mass spectrometer, the dielectric breakdown voltages of gas molecules in the air and the fiber are overcome, leading to the ionization of analytes in gas phase. In addition, the insulating fiber can function as a holder for sample solutions. Electrospray ionization-like processes derived from polar analytes such as amino acids, peptides, and proteins can readily occur when the insulating fiber deposited with a sample droplet is placed close to the inlet of the mass spectrometer. The feasibility of using the current approach for the detection of nonpolar and polar analytes from complex fetal bovine serum samples without tedious sample pretreatment is demonstrated in this work. The main advantage of using the suggested fiber is that the fiber can be used as the sampling probe to pick up samples and placed in front of a mass spectrometer for direct MS analysis. The application of using a robust, insulating, and disposable probe to pick up samples from real samples such as onion, honey, and pork samples followed by direct MS analysis is also demonstrated., (© 2022. Due to the surface hydrophobicity, the absorbing effect of the tobacco extract droplets on the reconstituted tobacco paper is unsatisfactory. Therefore, the surface property regulation of the tobacco paper has gained increasing attention. This work reports a novel argon (Ar) plasma treatment technique for improving the surface hydrophilicity and bacteriostatic effect of the paper. Firstly, Ar plasma was selected as the treatment gas and its improving effect was demonstrated through studying the contact angle changes of water droplet on the A4 paper. Then, the capillary fibers on the paper were bombarded by Ar plasma jet. The extract droplet contact angle on the reconstituted tobacco paper-15 s surface is only 14.6° within 1 s. In comparison to the pristine paper (5.9°/s), the absorption dynamic of the droplet increased to as high as 62.5°/s, which indicated the hydrophilicity was greatly improved by the Ar plasma method. The mechanism for improving the surface hydrophilicity of the cellulose in the tobacco paper also contributed to the generation of holes by Ar plasma jet, which increased the surface permeability of cellulose. At last, Ar plasma treatment showed excellent bacteriostatic effect, which could effectively inhibit the propagation and growth of fungi, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus on the tobacco paper. The development of nontargeted analysis (NTA) methods to assess environmental contaminants of emerging concern, which are not commonly monitored, is paramount, especially when no previous knowledge on the identity of the pollution source is available. We compared complementary ionization techniques, namely electrospray ionization (ESI) and atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI), in the detection and identification of organic contaminants in tap and surface waters from South Florida. Furthermore, the performance of a simple rationalized NTA method was assessed by analyzing 10 complex mixtures as part of the US Environmental Protection Agency's Non-targeted Analysis Collaborative Trial interlaboratory study, where limitations of the NTA approach have been identified (e.g., number of employed databases, false positives). Different water bodies displayed unique chemical features that can be used as chemical fingerprints for source tracking and discrimination. The APCI technique detected at least threefold as many chemical features as ESI in environmental water samples, corroborating the fact that APCI is more energetic and can ionize certain classes of compounds that are traditionally difficult to ionize by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Kendrick mass defect plots and Van Krevelen diagrams were applied to elucidate unique patterns and theoretical chemical space regions of anthropogenic organic compounds belonging to homologous series or similar classes covered by ESI and APCI. Overall, APCI and ESI were established as complementary, expanding the detected NTA chemical space which would otherwise be underestimated by a single ionization source operated in a single polarity setting. Producing thick films of conducting polymers by a low‐cost manufacturing technique would enable new applications. However, removing huge solvent volume from diluted suspension or dispersion (1–3 wt%) in which conducting polymers are typically obtained is a true manufacturing challenge. In this work, a procedure is proposed to quickly remove water from the conducting polymer poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene:poly(4‐styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) suspension. The PEDOT:PSS suspension is first flocculated with 1 m H2SO4 transforming PEDOT nanoparticles (≈50–500 nm) into soft microparticles. A filtration process inspired by pulp dewatering in a paper machine on a wire mesh with apertures dimension between 60 µm and 0.5 mm leads to thick free‐standing films (≈0.5 mm). Wire mesh clogging that hinders dewatering (known as dead‐end filtration) is overcome by adding to the flocculated PEDOT:PSS dispersion carbon fibers that aggregate and form efficient water channels. Moreover, this enables fast formation of thick layers under simple atmospheric pressure filtration, thus making the process truly scalable. Thick freestanding PEDOT films thus obtained are used as electrocatalysts for efficient reduction of oxygen to hydrogen peroxide, a promising green chemical and fuel. This study's aim is a comparison of the plasma-induced effects on polymers exposed in helium and argon gaseous environments in a pulsed dielectric barrier discharge at atmospheric pressure. Cellulose-based and synthetic polymers are tested with regard to a range of parameters, such as wettability, adhesion, surface energy and polarity, the oxygen amount in their structure, and surface morphology. The surface properties are analyzed by contact angle measurements, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy images. The results point to the efficient and remarkably stable modifications of the plasma-exposed surfaces, such as their enhanced adhesion, surface energy, and oxygen incorporation. Additionally, plasma provides significant oxygen uptake in cellulose-based materials that bear already prior to treatment a high amount of oxygen in their structure. The comparison between the properties of the non-permeable, homogeneous, smooth-surface synthetic polymer and those of the loosely packed, porous, heterogeneous cellulose-based polymers points to the different rates of plasma-induced modification, whereby a progressive alteration of cellulosic surface properties over much larger ranges of exposure durations is noted. Present experimental conditions ensure mild treatments on such sensitive material, such as paper, and this is without alterations of the surface morphology and the physical degradation of the material over a large range of treatment duration. Generating a uniform non-equilibrium plasma in atmospheric pressure air has always been a challenge. It is believed that the maximum spacing for generating a uniform non-equilibrium plasma in atmospheric pressure air, whether using AC or nanosecond pulse drive, is 4 mm. Discharges are always non-uniform when the spacing is greater than 4 mm. In this paper, we propose a new type of dielectric barrier discharge structure to address this challenge. The left end of the structure rapidly increases the discharge spacing from 0.5 mm to 6 mm, while the right side of the main discharge gap maintains a uniform spacing of 6 mm. Nanosecond pulse voltage is used to drive the plasma, an ICCD camera is used to capture the image of the plasma during a discharge pulse cycle, which indicates that a uniform plasma within the 6 mm spacing of the main discharge gap is generated. Upon further reducing the ICCD camera's exposure time to 20 ns, it is revealed that the uniform plasma is formed due to the rapid propagation of the plasma from left to right at a speed of order of 105 m s−1. Due to the small transverse component of the external electric field, this rapid propagation behavior cannot be due to the external electric field. Therefore, this paper further proposes the hypothesis of electric dipole formation leading to this fast propagation. The hypothesis suggests that the charge separation on the surface of the anode forms an electric dipole, which generates a local discharge at its right end. This local discharge further triggers the discharge in the main gap, and the main gap discharge, in turn, forms a dipole due to charge separation again, by repeating this cycle, the plasma propagates rapidly to the right. Further analysis demonstrates that this dipole can indeed produce a strong electric field of up to 41 kV cm−1 at its right end, which is sufficient to induce a local discharge. Moreover, under such a strong electric field, the electron migration rate can indeed reach 105 m s−1. These findings support the plausibility of this hypothesis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents an experimental campaign conducted next to the Condoroma dam, in Perú, at 4075 m a.s.l. The tests carried out in this paper were conducted in a 21 m long channel located at the toe of Condoroma dam. The setup consisted of a series of standard profile spillways with a vertical upstream face of up to five different dimensionless heights (P/Hd) ranging from 0.5 to 2. The experimental results indicated that, the P/Hd ratio influences the discharge coefficients in Condoroma, and P/Hd ≥ 1 values are recommended for the design of the spillway profile. In addition, for all the P/Hd ratios studied, the discharge coefficients adjusted to the Condoroma altitude were lower than those reported by classical formulations used in conventional spillway designs. Finally, a generalized equation is proposed to estimate the discharge coefficient for standard spillways located in dams at similar elevations above sea level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The external insulation strength of the power equipment sleeve in the substation and converter station will be reduced with the increase in altitude and atmosphere pollution. The weakness of external insulation seriously threatens the safe operation of electrical equipment. At present, there are few studies and conclusions that focus on the flashover characteristics of power equipment bushing in high-altitude polluted areas. Therefore, this paper takes the 220 kV voltage level bushing as the research object and studies the Alternating Current (AC) pollution flashover characteristics and lightning and switching impulse flashover characteristics at low pressure. The insulation configuration at high-altitude polluted areas is analyzed. Finally, the insulation configuration scheme, which is suitable for high-altitude polluted areas, is proposed. The results show that the AC pollution flashover voltages of the bushing decrease with the decrease in the atmospheric pressure and the increase in the salt density as a power exponent function. The impulse flashover voltages also decrease with the decrease in the atmospheric pressure as a power exponent function. The atmospheric pressure/pollution impact characteristic index is related to the type of voltage, the value of the atmospheric pressure, and the value of the salt density. The test bushing does not meet the insulation configuration requirements in some high-altitude polluted areas. Through the analysis and calculation of the test results, the bushing insulation configuration scheme in high-altitude polluted areas is proposed. The research results can provide a reference for the external insulation design of bushings in substations and converter stations in high-altitude polluted areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We have developed an innovative optical emission spectrometry imaging device integrating a diode laser for sample introduction and an atmospheric pressure plasma based on dielectric barrier discharge for atomization and excitation. By optimizing the device parameters and ensuring appropriate leaf moisture, we achieved effective imaging with a lateral resolution as low as 50 μm. This device allows for tracking the accumulation of Cd and related species such as K, Zn, and O 2 +∙ , in plant leaves exposed to different Cd levels and culture times. The results obtained are comparable to established in-lab imaging and quantitative methods. This paper presents the results of studies on the transformation of geraniol (GA) in the presence of the natural mineral bentonite. The paper determines the influence of temperature, catalyst content, and reaction time on the course of the process. In order to determine the most favorable process conditions, the catalytic tests were carried out without solvent and under atmospheric pressure. Three functions were chosen to determine the most favorable process conditions: GA conversion and the selectivities of the main products: linalool – LO and beta-pinene – BP. In addition, the paper optimize GA transformation process based on response surface methodology (RSM). The impact of the most relevant process indicators was presented. For all factors of the method, their effects on all primary parameters were determined in the form of second-degree polynomials, and such process conditions were determined to achieve their maximum. This paper presents an analytical approach to envisage a suitable operating pressure and investigate the effect of squeezed-film damping on the transient response of a micromirror of size 200 µm × 200 µm and a deflection of 2.5 µm for space-based multiobject spectroscopy. While most MEMS devices are vacuum packaged to achieve a high Q and fast switching, the same may not be true for applications that are prone to vibrations and shocks. At small pressures, the micromirror can produce undesired deflections and oscillations, and hence, a high-pressure operation becomes necessary to alleviate these effects. The operating pressure and its effect on the transient response of the micromirror are investigated by solving linearized Reynold's equation and dynamic equation of motion using the numerical iteration method. The result shows an overdamped response above 10 kPa pressure. At 101 kPa, the micromirror exhibits a switching and release time of 102 µs and 95 µs, respectively. The analytical results are very close to the FEM results with a deviation of 8%. The result shows that operating a micromirror at atmospheric pressure serves the dual purpose of dispensing away with the requirement of vacuum packaging and providing immunity from vibrations and oscillation. Increased effectiveness of methane drainage from sealed post-mining goaves in hard coal mines contributes to reduced methane emission from goaves into the mine ventilation system. This paper focuses on issues concerning the assessment of the additional amount of methane released from the goaf into mine workings during periods of atmospheric pressure drops, which can be captured with a methane drainage system. Thanks to the solutions presented in the paper, it is possible to control the efficiency of the goaf drainage system, which in turn leads to the reduction of methane emission from the mine ventilation air into Earth's atmosphere. These solutions are of great added value for both the environment and coal mines as they reduce the costs arising from greenhouse gas emissions that are incurred by mining companies, increasing the efficiency of methane capture and its use in gas engines or district heating systems. The paper uses relationships relating to the influence of atmospheric pressure changes on the process of gas release from the goaf according to the hysteresis loop of methane release during atmospheric pressure changes, which was developed based on conducted research. The analysis and conclusions presented in this paper may facilitate the development of strategies aimed at reducing methane emissions from a mine's ventilated air into Earth's atmosphere. Atmospheric pressure cold plasma has the advantages of high reactive species content, free from the limitation of vacuum environment and low cost in polymer films pattern etching. However, due to the extension phenomenon of the jet, there are problems in the pattern etching, such as low processing accuracy and difficulty in process precise control. In this paper, an atmospheric pressure cold plasma jet diffusion limited etching model is established to simulate the etching process and surface etching morphology under different conditions, and a plasma jet processing platform is built for experimental confirmation. The effect of diffusion coefficient and move probability on the etching results is studied by numerical simulation. The experiment observes the extension phenomenon of the plasma jet hitting the glass slide under the influence of working voltage or nitrogen flow, and the color reaction of Starch-KI test paper. The results show that the simulated etching results are consistent with the extension phenomenon of the jet impinging on the glass slide. The greater the probability of the active particles moving downward, the greater the contact line width and the etching depth, which is the same as the experimental result of increasing the working voltage. The shielding gas can isolate the air, reduce the diffusion coefficient, and reduce the loss of particles, which is beneficial to plasma etching. It is hoped that the research results in this paper can provide a certain reference for realizing high-precision and controllable etching and process optimization of atmospheric pressure cold plasma jet. The commonly used reference atmospheric profiles for the validation of retrieved atmospheric profiles for microwave sounders have bias compared with real atmospheric profile values, which is detrimental to the validation of the retrieval. Microwave sounder observations are the direct measurements of microwave radiation in atmospheric conditions and are a true representation of the status of the atmosphere. This paper proposed a validation method for the retrieved atmospheric temperature and atmospheric humidity profiles of the satellite-based microwave sounder using its own in-orbit observations. The validation experiments are performed both for the retrievals of the microwave temperature sounder-II (Xi'an Branch, China Academy of Space Technology, Xi'an, China. MWTS-II) and the microwave humidity and temperature sounder (National Space Science Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China. MWHTS). The validation results show that the retrieved temperature profiles of MWTS-II have higher accuracy compared to the temperature profiles of ERA5 in the atmospheric pressure range of 3–30 hPa, and the accuracy of the rest of the pressure range is comparable between the profiles of ERA5 and the retrieved profiles. And the retrieved temperature profiles of MWHTS have higher accuracy compared to the temperature profiles of ERA5 in the atmospheric pressure level around 50 hPa and lower accuracy in the rest of the pressure levels. In addition, the retrieved humidity profiles of MWHTS have higher accuracy compared to the humidity profiles of ERA5 in the atmospheric pressure range of 350–925 hPa. The proposed validation method for the retrieved atmospheric temperature and atmospheric humidity profiles of MWHTS using its own observations is promising for improving the feasibility and reliability of the validation, and can be a good reference for the application of the satellite in-orbit observations and the optimization of the microwave sounders. The construction of sub‐daily pressure series is described for the cities of London (GB) and Paris (FR). The series extend back 1692 and 1748, respectively, and as such they represent two of the longest sub‐daily series of barometric pressure available. These series are updated from the previously documented London and Paris daily series and offer more homogeneous series, and in the case of the London series a more temporally complete sequence of data. A pairwise homogenization procedure has been applied to the two series alongside the long series of pressure that exists for De Bilt (NL). The De Bilt series has been available for some time in the International Surface Pressure Dataset (ISPD), but further quality control and homogeneity‐checking procedures have been applied to the data in this paper and therefore the three series are released together in this dataset. The series are of immediate interest for understanding changes to storm activity across the English Channel and North Atlantic region over an extended timeframe but may also be assimilated into reanalysis datasets such as the 20th‐century reanalysis. Billions of historical climatological observations remain unavailable to science as they exist only on paper, stored in numerous archives around the world. The conversion of these data from paper to digital could transform our understanding of historical climate variations, including extreme weather events. Here we demonstrate how the rescue of such paper observations has improved our understanding of a severe windstorm that occurred in February 1903 and its significant impacts. By assimilating newly rescued atmospheric pressure observations, the storm is now credibly represented in an improved reanalysis of the event. In some locations this storm produced stronger winds than any event during the modern period (1950–2015) and it is in the top-4 storms for strongest winds anywhere over land in England and Wales. As a result, estimates of risk from severe storms, based on modern period data, may need to be revised. Examining the atmospheric structure of the storm suggests that it is a classic Shapiro–Keyser-type cyclone with "sting-jet" precursors and associated extreme winds at locations and times of known significant damage. Comparison with both independent observations and qualitative information, such as photographs and written accounts, provides additional evidence of the credibility of the atmospheric reconstruction, including sub-daily rainfall variations. Simulations of the storm surge resulting from this storm show a large coastal surge of around 2.5 m, comparing favourably with newly rescued tide gauge observations and adding to our confidence in the reconstruction. Combining historical rescued weather observations with modern reanalysis techniques has allowed us to plausibly reconstruct a severe windstorm and associated storm surge from more than 100 years ago, establishing an invaluable end-to-end tool to improve assessments of risks from extreme weather. In recent years, interest in synthetic C4F7N as a gas insulator has been growing due to its unique insulation properties and low global warming potential. In spite of this, very few studies are devoted to the analysis of the electric breakdown of C4F7N and its mixtures with other dilutants such as CO2 and N2. In the present paper, we use a two-dimensional fluid model to analyze the electrical breakdown of the atmospheric pressure C4F7N/N2 mixture. We establish the influence of the C4F7N fraction in the mixture and the cathode voltage rise rate on the breakdown voltage. We find that the ratio between the electron attachment frequency and the voltage rise rate defines the streamer parameters. Namely, if the time scale of electron attachment to C4F7N is much faster than the voltage rise rate, the plasma electronegativity of the streamer body and of its head is extremely high, and it is difficult to define exactly the streamer head location. In recent years, non-thermal plasma technology has emerged as one of the most promising candidates for decomposing CO 2. The fluid model, a powerful tool to investigate the plasma dynamics, is computationally costly in simulating complex CO 2 plasma with tens of particles and hundreds of reactions, especially driven by short pulsed voltages. In this paper, a deep neural network (DNN) is proposed to describe the discharge characteristics and plasma chemistry of CO 2 pulsed discharge at atmospheric pressure. The DNN is trained using the simulation data obtained from the fluid model and then continuously optimized by minimizing the loss function. The effectiveness and feasibility of the DNN are verified by comparing with the experimental measurement and the numerical simulation results. Compared to the time-consuming fluid simulations with tens of hours, the well-trained DNN typically requires only a few seconds to obtain the essential characteristics of CO 2 pulsed discharges with high accuracy, significantly improving the computational efficiency. The DNN prediction results show that increasing the pulse rise rate at a given voltage amplitude can effectively raise the discharge current and breakdown voltage, and the electric field in the sheath region also increases with the pulse rise rate. In addition, the density of the surface charge accumulated on the dielectric layer increases with the plateau duration, and then a strong induced electric field by the surface charges is established, which obviously improves the discharge current during the pulse fall phase. The predicted data also show that increasing the pulse rise rate and the plateau duration could effectively improve the density of product species, such as CO and O 2 , leading to an increase in CO 2 conversion. This study demonstrates that the DNN method is a reliable tool for obtaining the essential discharge characteristics of atmospheric CO 2 pulsed plasma and provides a promising avenue for future applications of DNN-based methods in non-thermal plasmas. The existence of confining pressure is an important factor that can't be ignored in rock cutting process. Rocks show high strength and strong plasticity under confining pressure condition (CPC), leading to the low rock-breaking efficiency of drilling bit, which is more prominent in deep formation drilling. However, the understanding of rock-breaking mechanism of Polycrystalline Diamond Compact (PDC) cutter under CPC is still unclear. Given that fact, in this paper, a series of rock cutting experiments on sandstone and granite under different confining pressures and atmospheric pressure conditions were carried out using a self-made true triaxial rock cutting device. The cutting force, mechanical specific energy (MSE) and cuttings mass fraction under confining pressure and atmospheric pressure conditions were studied, and the cutting grooves were analyzed. The results show that the existence of confining pressure greatly increases the difficulty of rock cutting, which is embodied by the increase of cutting force and MSE. In addition, the size of cuttings produced under CPC is smaller, and the proportion of powdery cuttings increases with increasing confining pressure. Meanwhile, the cutting grooves obtained under CPCs are smoother. Microscopically, the existence of confining pressure greatly enhances the contact stress between PDC cutter and rock, resulting in a larger area of dense core when PDC cutter contacts with rock. Confining pressure leads to the difficulty of cuttings discharge to a certain extent, which easily results in the secondary and repeated destruction of cuttings and increases the energy dissipation. In general, confining pressure leads to the lower damage degree of PDC cutter to the rock, which makes the rock difficult to be drilled. The research results can provide some special guidance for rock breaking in deep formation, and provide practical thoughts and enlightenment for rock breaking, bits arrangement and optimization under CPC. Molecular sieve oxygen-production technology, as a kind of air separation–oxygen production, is receiving more and more attention from every oxygen industry. The two-bed molecular sieve oxygen-production system studied in this paper can generally produce enriched gas with an oxygen concentration of more than 90%, which has the characteristics of strong applicability, high reliability, low cost and high efficiency. However, the gas oxygen concentration of a production system is greatly affected by internal and external factors such as the molecular sieve materials, atmospheric pressure and temperature environment. Through the continuous research of the molecular sieve oxygen-production system, it has been found that the oxygen cycle of the molecular sieve bed and the diameter of the washing and sizing hole also have an effect on the gas oxygen concentration of the production system. Therefore, in this paper, the two-bed molecular sieve oxygen-production device is the research object, with different oxygen-production cycles (including pressure time) and different washing and sizing hole diameter simulation experiments used to explore the molecular sieve oxygen-production system's optimal oxygen-production cycle (including pressure time) and the rinsing sizing hole's optimal aperture, to find the structure of the oxygen-production system and the control parameters for the oxygen-production efficiency of the law. The results show that the optimal oxygen-production cycle of the molecular sieve system is 8.0 s (pressure equalization time is 1.3 s), and the optimal diameter of the washing and sizing hole is 0.8 mm. The amount of moisture in the air is represented by relative humidity (RH); an ideal level of humidity in the interior environment is between 40% and 60% at temperatures between 18° and 20° Celsius. When the RH falls below this level, the environment becomes dry, which can cause skin dryness, irritation, and discomfort at low temperatures. When the humidity level rises above 60%, a wet atmosphere develops, which encourages the growth of mold and mites. Asthma and allergy symptoms may occur as a result. Human health is harmed by excessive humidity or a lack thereof. Dehumidifiers can be used to provide an optimal level of humidity and a stable and pleasant atmosphere; certain models disinfect and purify the water, reducing the spread of bacteria. The design and implementation of a client-server indoor and outdoor air quality monitoring application are presented in this paper. The Netatmo station was used to acquire the data needed in the application. The client is an Android application that allows the user to monitor air quality over a period of their choosing. For a good monitoring process, the Netatmo modules were used to collect data from both environments (indoor: temperature (T), RH, carbon dioxide (CO2), atmospheric pressure (Pa), noise and outdoor: T and RH). The data is stored in a database, using MySQL. The Android application allows the user to view the evolution of the measured parameters in the form of graphs. Also, the paper presents a prediction model of RH using Azure Machine Learning Studio (Azure ML Studio). The model is evaluated using metrics: Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), Relative Absolute Error (RAE), Relative Squared Error (RSE) and Coefficient of Determination (CoD). This is the first report to use Atmospheric Pressure Solids Analysis Probe (ASAP) for rapid and intelligent authentication of 78 edible flowers. Mass spectra of 451 batches were collected, with each run for 1-2 min. Experimental raw data was automatically extracted and aligned to create a MS database, based on which flowers were identified by MS similarity scores and rankings. To avoid background interference, top 25 ions of each flower were screened and gathered into an m/z pool containing 292 ions (+) and 399 ions (-). Binary sequence IDs were then generated by automatically assigning "1″ for presence and "0″ for absence, resulting in 78 binary codes. Binary code similarity with 78 IDs was used for authentication. Above two approaches were automatically performed by MATLAB, and compared to k-nearest neighbor model, and samples were all successfully identified (100 %). For over five decades, many experimental and clinical studies have shown predominantly positive but controversial results on the efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO 2 ) therapy in burns. The study aimed to define a common denominator or constellations, respectively, linked to the effects of HBO 2 in burns with a special focus on dosage parameters. Based on original work since 1965, species, number of individuals, type of study, percentage of total body surface area (TBSA), region, depth of burn, causative agent, interval between burn and first HBO2 session, pressure, duration of individual session, number of HBO 2 sessions per day, cumulative number of HBO 2 sessions and type of chamber were assessed. Out of 47 publications included, 32 were animal trials, four were trials in human volunteers, and 11 were clinical studies. They contained 94 experiments whose features were processed for statistical evaluation. 64 (67.4%) showed a positive outcome, 16 (17.9%) an ambiguous one, and 14 (14.7%) a negative outcome. The only factor independently influencing the results was pressure with ATA (atmospheres absolute) lower than 3 ATA being significantly associated with better outcomes (p=0.0005). Featured Application: This paper demonstrates that the behavior of the horizontal component of seismic wind noise with depth is much more complex than previously published. This fact will motivate increased use of the horizontal component in seismic wind noise studies and should lead to better determination of ground properties using inversion of measured seismic wind noise. In a literature search on the coupling of wind-generated pressure fluctuations into seismic noise, it was noticed that the expression for the angular tilt induced by pressure fluctuations in the seminal paper "A preliminary investigation into the relationship between long-period seismic noise and local fluctuations in the atmospheric pressure" by G. G. Sorrells was only valid at the surface. A search of the literature which cites the Sorrells paper was performed to see if any subsequent research corrected this error, and what effect the error might have on the research. A recent paper by Tanimoto and Wang notes the correct expression for the tilt, but employs the simpler erroneous expression in the research. In this paper, we develop the correct expression for effective measured displacements and approximate expressions analogous to those of Sorrells. The resulting magnitudes and decay with depth are then displayed and compared to Sorrells. Next, the results of the literature search are discussed. The results of three papers are identified as potentially modified by the correction of the tilt calculation. Finally, it is noted that the majority of the papers referenced are not affected by the correction, since many of the papers are for near-surface displacements of very low frequencies. In recent decades, interest in simulation modeling of plasma processing under atmospheric pressure has been growing because of its appealing advantages across various domains. These advantages encompass the provision of diverse data types for evaluating processing states, the capability to predict processing outcomes from current operating conditions, and cost-effectiveness in comparison to experimental methods. This paper endeavors to offer a concise review of the evolution of simulation modeling of atmospheric plasma processing. This review encompasses foundational concepts and methodologies of plasma generation modeling of both thermal and nonthermal plasmas, progressing to discuss the framework and challenges of plasma processing modeling. In addition, a brief overview of contemporary challenges in modeling, such as simplifying complex physics, designing computational domains, and optimizing the balance between computational precision and cost, is provided to foster the advancement of atmospheric plasma processing modeling. Exoplanet atmospheres are expected to vary significantly in thickness and chemical composition, leading to a continuum of differences in surface pressure and atmospheric density. This variability is exemplified within our Solar System, where the four rocky planets exhibit surface pressures ranging from 1 nPa on Mercury to 9.2 MPa on Venus. The direct effects and potential challenges of atmospheric pressure and density on life have rarely been discussed. For instance, atmospheric density directly affects the possibility of active flight in organisms, a critical factor since without it, dispersing across extensive and inhospitable terrains becomes a major limitation for the expansion of complex life. In this paper, we propose the existence of a critical atmospheric density threshold below which active flight is unfeasible, significantly impacting biosphere development. To qualitatively assess this threshold and differentiate it from energy availability constraints, we analyze the limits of active flight on Earth, using the common fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, as a model organism. We subjected Drosophila melanogaster to various atmospheric density scenarios and reviewed previous data on flight limitations. Our observations show that flies in an N2-enriched environment recover active flying abilities more efficiently than those in a helium-enriched environment, highlighting behavioral differences attributable to atmospheric density vs. oxygen deprivation. Increasing the number of resistant bacteria resistant to treatment is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. These bacteria are created in wounds and injuries and can be transferred through hospital equipment. Various attempts have been made to treat these bacteria in recent years, such as using different drugs and new sterilization methods. However, some bacteria resist drugs, and other traditional methods cannot destroy them. In the meantime, various studies have shown that cold atmospheric plasma can kill these bacteria through different mechanisms, making cold plasma a promising tool to deactivate bacteria. This new technology can be effectively used in the food industry because it has the potential to inactivate microorganisms such as spores and microbial toxins and increase the wettability and printability of polymers to pack fresh and dried food. It can also increase the shelf life of food without leaving any residue or chemical effluent. Atmospheric pressure cold plasmas have recently been the subject of intense research and applications for solving problems in the fields of energy, environmental engineering, and biomedicine. Non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma sources, with dielectric barrier discharges, plasma jets, and arc discharges, are non-linear power loads. They require special power systems, which are usually designed separately for each type of plasma reactor, depending on the requirements of the plasma-chemical process, the power of the receiver, the type of process gas, the current, voltage and frequency requirements, and the efficiency of the power source. This paper presents non-linear phenomena accompanying plasma generation in the power supply plasma reactor system, such as harmonic generation, resonance, and ferroresonance of currents and voltages, and the switching of overvoltages and pulse generation. When properly applied, this can support the operation of the above-mentioned reactors by providing improved discharge ignition depending on the working gas, thus increasing the efficiency of the plasma process and improving the cooperation of the plasma-generation system with the power supply. This paper presents the results of an experimental study of a new hybrid plasmatron scheme, which was used to realize a gas discharge at atmospheric pressure supported by continuous focused submillimeter radiation with a frequency of 263 GHz. The implemented design allowed organizing a self-consistent interaction between submillimeter radiation and the supercritical plasma in a localized area both in terms of gas flow and electrodynamic. In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, the urgent need for the rapid deployment of healthcare facilities propelled the rise of modular construction using an infill approach. In these modular, negative-pressure wards, the design of indoor airflow and pressure plays a crucial role in meeting the ventilation strategies required for isolation facilities. Accordingly, this paper focuses on modular negative-pressure wards employing an infill construction method and proposes an appropriate spatial pressure distribution to address the problem of air tightness degradation due to leakage. This study analyzed the indoor airflow and pressure distribution of a unit module corresponding to an infill. It aimed to examine whether the pressure difference with the adjacent room is maintained and to assess its effectiveness in isolating contaminated air. First, the airflow rate of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system in the unit module was calculated to ensure that it would meet the performance criteria of the negative-pressure ward. Afterward, based on the calculated rate, the study assessed the airflow and room-specific pressure within a typical floor, encompassing both the unit module and associated nursing support facilities. Here, the airflow in the external corridor of the typical floor was divided into two cases according to the pressure distribution: negative pressure and atmospheric pressure. The calculation results were compared using a computational fluid dynamics tool. The analysis results confirm that the air isolation performance is adequate as the pressure difference between adjacent rooms in the unit module and the typical floor was maintained at 2.5 Pa. Additionally, the indoor airflow in the negative-pressure isolation room formed a stable flow at a slow speed of 0.1–0.2 m/s, minimizing the possibility of air contamination from outside the isolation room. In particular, Case B of the typical floor design proposes a method to optimize the pressure distribution in the modular negative-pressure ward by designing the ventilation flow rate at atmospheric pressure level. Thus, this study emphasizes that atmospheric pressure design is appropriate when designing pressure in areas where negative-pressure control is difficult and can contribute to the design and improvement of similar medical facilities in the future. In order to solve the difficult portability problem of traditional non-invasive sleeping posture recognition algorithms arising from the production cost and computational cost, this paper proposes a sleeping posture recognition model focusing on human body structural feature extraction and integration of feature space and algorithms based on a specific air-spring mattress structure, called SPR-DE (SPR-DE is the Sleep Posture Recognition-Data Ensemble acronym form). The model combines SMR (SMR stands for Principle of Spearman Maximal Relevance) with horizontal and vertical division based on the barometric pressure signals in the human body's backbone region to reconstruct the raw pressure data into strongly correlated non-image features of the sleep postures in different parts and directions and construct the feature set. Finally, the recognit-ion of the two sleep postures is accomplished using the AdaBoost-SVM integrated classifier. SPR-DE is compared with the base and integrated classifiers to verify its performance. The experimental results show that the amount of significant features helps the algorithm to classify different sleeping patterns more accurately, and the f1 score of the SPR-DE model determined by the comparison experiments is 0.998, and the accuracy can reach 99.9%. Compared with other models, the accuracy is improved by 2.9% ~ 7.7%, and the f1-score is improved by 0.029 ~ 0.076. Therefore, it is concluded that the SMR feature extraction strategy in the SPR-DE model and the AdaBoost-SVM can achieve high accuracy and strong robustness in the task of sleep posture recognition in a small area, low-density air-pressure mattress, taking into account the comfort of the mattress structural design and the sleep posture recognition, integrated with the mattress adaptive adjustment system. Analysis of cutting phenomena has been conducted for a long time and many researchers have elucidated the phenomena that may occur at the cutting-edge during machining; for example, built-up edges and welding phenomena on cutting edge. However, the existing research has focused on observing the tool and chips after machining, when the tool and work material have been cooled, and are under atmospheric pressure. Therefore, we consider that it is different from the phenomenon that occurs during cutting. Because the cutting edge of a tool is in a high-temperature and high-pressure environment during machining and is released from such an environment after machining, the cutting edge must be visualized to discuss the actual cutting phenomena. There have been research reports in the past that have visualized the backside of cutting chips; however, that experiment was far from actual cutting phenomena and was conducted at significantly low cutting speed. Thus, the visualization of the cutting phenomenon is physically extremely difficult at the cutting edge. Under such circumstances, this study developed a device that observed the behavior of the boundary surface between cutting chips and the rake face in real time from the backside of the rake face during machining. By using the developed device, we could visualize this phenomenon to acquire the data directly and visually, which can otherwise be grasped only indirectly. In this device, a camera was mounted on a tool holder, and a cutting tip made of a transparent material was used to observe rake face, cutting edge, and flank face which can be visualized during machining from the backside of the rake face within one field of view. As humanity envisions the possibility of inhabiting Mars in the future, the imperative for survival in the face of its challenging conditions necessitates the construction of protective shelters to mitigate the effects of radiation exposure and the absence of atmospheric pressure. The feasibility of producing geopolymers using the Martian regolith simulant MGS-1 (as precursor) for potential building and infrastructure projects on Mars in the future is investigated in this paper. Various alkaline activators, such as sodium hydroxide (NaOH), lithium hydroxide (LiOH·H2O) and sodium silicate (Na2SiO3), are employed to investigate their efficiency in activating the precursor. The influence of alkali type and concentration on the mechanical performance of the synthesized geopolymers is examined. Geopolymer samples are oven-cured for 7 days at 70 °C before a compressive strength test. It is found that through the hybrid use of LiOH·H2O and NaOH with optimal concentrations, metakaolin and milled MGS-1 as precursors, geopolymer mixtures with a compressive strength of 30 ± 2 MPa can be developed. The present test results preliminarily demonstrate the potential of Martian regolith simulant-based geopolymers as suitable construction and building materials for use on Mars. Due to the long duration and high cost of traditional pumping tests, the response of well water levels to seismic waves, earth tides, and barometric pressure provides a feasible method for determining continuous changes in aquifer hydraulic parameters. Aimed at the problem that the response phase shift of well BB water levels to tide M2 is greater than that of tide O1, this paper preferentially calculated the time series changes in S, Be, n, and BKu based on the response mechanism of well water levels to barometric pressure and earth tides with the help of the smooth moving method. Then, by using the mixed flow model, the variation in the transmissivity and leakage coefficient over time was simultaneously obtained, and the evolution process and characteristics of aquifer parameters near well BB caused by the Wenchuan earthquake are ultimately discussed. The calculation results are basically consistent with the previous pumping test, and have been verified and compared by using other scholars' methods. This solving process avoids problems such as excessive dependence on initial values, multiple solutions, and unstable tide O1, which has a promoting effect on the study of the impact of seismic activity on aquifer systems. Morphological features of the Mediterranean Sea basin have recently been precursors to a significant increase in the formation of extreme events, in relation to climate change effects. It happens very frequently that rotating air masses and the formation of mesoscale vortices can evolve into events with characteristics similar to large-scale tropical cyclones. Generally, they are less intense, with smaller size and duration; thus, they are called Medicanes, a short name for Mediterranean hurricanes, or tropical-like cyclones (TLCs). In this paper, we propose a new perspective for the study and analysis of cyclonic events, starting with data and images acquired from satellites and focusing on the diagnostics of the evolution of atmospheric parameters for these events. More precisely, satellite remote sensing techniques are employed to elaborate on different high spatial-resolution satellite images of the events at a given sensing time. Two case studies are examined, taking into account their development into Medicane stages: Ianos, which intensified in the Ionian Sea and reached the coast of Greece between 14 and 21 September 2020, and Apollo, which impacted Mediterranean latitudes with a long tracking from 24 October to 2 November 2021. For these events, 20 images were acquired from two different satellite sensors, onboard two low-Earth orbit (LEO) platforms, by deeply exploiting their thermal infrared (TIR) spectral channels. A useful extraction of significant physical information was carried out from every image, highlighting several atmospheric quantities, including temperature and altitude layers from the top of the cloud, vertical temperature gradient, atmospheric pressure field, and deep convection cloud. The diagnostics of the two events were investigated through the spatial scale capabilities of the instruments and the spatiotemporal evolution of the cyclones, including the comparison between satellite data and recording data from the BOLAM forecasting model. O2 impurity in the working gas of an He/CF4 atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) can affect the discharge dynamics and the density of reactive species. Therefore, a two-dimensional (2D) fluid model is built in order to explore the influence of an O2 admixture on the propagation and F-containing species distribution of He/CF4 APPJ. The addition of 0.1% O2 accelerates the ionization rates of APPJ due to the increase of Penning ionization reactions of O2, resulting in the increases of axial speed and F-containing reactive species (CF4+, CF3+, CF2+, CF+, F+, CF3, F, CF3−) when APPJ approaches the dielectric surface. The addition of O2 has the inhibitory effect on the rise of some F-containing reactive species (CF3+ and F). As O2 concentration increases to 2%, the concentration of F-containing reactive species shows a downward trend due to the increase of excitation energy loss and an electron attachment reaction of O2. Different from the axial speed, the radial speed decreases continuously with the increase of O2 because of the high O2 concentration on the dielectric surface when APPJ propagates radially. This also results in a reduced distribution of reactive species fluxes. The excitation energy loss and electronegativity of O2 and CF4 in the case of He + 0.5% CF4 + 0.5% O2 have been presented in this paper. Gas-phase kinetics of the overall reactions of • OH and • Cl radicals with dihydrofuran-3(2H)-one (oxolan-3-one) and dihydro-2-methyl-3(2H)-furanone (2MTHF-3-one) were studied at 298 K and atmospheric pressure. The rate coefficients were determined using the relative method in a 480 L multipass glass reactor coupled to an FT-IR detection system. The rate coefficients found for oxolan 3-one and 2MTHF-one with • OH radicals (k 1 and k 2 ) and with • Cl atoms (k 3 and k 4 ) at 298 K and atmospheric pressure (in cm 3 molecule -1 s -1 ) were: k 1 = (1.86 ± 0.29) × 10 -11 , k 2 = (2.64 ± 0.47) × 10 -11 , k 3 = (1.15 ± 0.28) × 10 -10 , and k 4 = (1.33 ± 0.32) × 10 -10 , respectively. Reactivity trends were developed by comparison with other similar structures and Fukui indices employed to determine the reactivity of different sites on the ring. The singularity of the reaction with • OH was assessed by computational studies which showed the formation of several stable hydrogen bonded complexes, explaining the difference with the reaction with the • Cl atom. This review presents a survey of two extremely important technologies about CO 2 with the effectiveness of controlling microorganisms - atmospheric pressure CO 2 -based modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) and high pressure CO 2 non-thermal pasteurization (HPCD). CO 2 -based MAP is effectively in delaying the lag and logarithmic phases of microorganisms by replacing the surrounding air, while HPCD achieved sterilization by subjecting food to either subcritical or supercritical CO 2 for some time in a continuous, batch or semi-batch way. In addition to the advantages of healthy, eco-friendly, quality-preserving, effective characteristic, some challenges such as the high drip loss and packaging collapse associated with higher concentration of CO 2 , the fuzzy mechanisms of oxidative stress, the unproven specific metabolic pathways and biomarkers, etc., in CO 2 -based MAP, and the unavoidable extraction of bioactive compounds, the challenging application in solid foods with higher efficiency, the difficult balance between optimal sterilization and optimal food quality, etc., in HPCD still need more efforts to overcome. The action mechanism of CO 2 on microorganisms, researches in recent years, problems and future perspectives are summarized. When dissolved in solution medium or cellular fluids, CO 2 can form carbonic acid (H 2 CO 3 ), and H 2 CO 3 can further dissociate into bicarbonate ions (HCO 3 - ), carbonate (CO 3 2- ) and hydrogen cations (H + ) ionic species following series equilibria. The action mode of CO 2 on microorganisms may be relevant to changes in intracellular pH, alteration of proteins, enzyme structure and function, alteration of cell membrane function and fluidity, and so on. The prevention and treatment of organic pollutants in wastewater have attracted extensive attention because they threaten ecological balance and human health. Traditional wastewater treatment technologies, such as physical, chemical, biological methods, etc., are still limiting and challenging due to some factors, such as high energy consumption, chemical agents, low efficiency, and secondary pollution. At present, gliding arc plasma, based on equilibrium/non-equilibrium in plasma temperature, demonstrates itself to be one of the most promising technologies for the degradation of refractory organics with its fast degradation rates, no secondary contamination, high efficiency, and so on. The theoretical mechanisms and typical applications of gliding arc plasma degradation of wastewater are introduced in detail in this paper.
