Superhydrophobic SiO 2 was rapidly synthesized from commercial SiO 2 (KH550–SiO 2) at room temperature by innovatively using ultrasound-assisted ball milling. Characterization results showed that N-octyltriethoxysilane was grafted onto KH550–SiO 2 via multiple forces. Superhydrophobic paints were prepared by introducing epoxy resin as a binder. The preparation process is fluorine-free and green. Superhydrophobic paints can easily establish superhydrophobic coating on different substrates through multiple routes, and the prepared coating highlights excellent hydrophobicity, mechanical stability, and durability. Furthermore, the superhydrophobic coating displays superior self-cleaning, antifouling, oil-water separation, and load-increasing properties. We are sure that this work provides a novel green, fast, and scalable route for the synthesis of superhydrophobic nanoparticles. Lubricating grease working in extreme environments requires both excellent tribological properties and strong corrosion resistance. In this work, multi-layer graphene (GR) is chemically modified with oleic acid and the modified graphene (MGR) is dispersed in base oil by ultrasonic-assisted ball milling. Results show that GR is successfully modified by oleic acid, which is beneficial to improve the dispersibility in lubricating oil. After that, the composite lubricating oil is thickened into lubricating grease. Research results indicate the lubricating grease containing proper amount of MGR possesses both outstanding tribological properties and good corrosion resistance. Finally, the mechanism of lubrication and corrosion resistance of lubricating grease are discussed and proposed. The work provides a reference for the relevant academic research and practical application. Microwave-assisted ball milling accelerates the chemical reaction while dispersing graphene. Compared to the traditional method, this method can graft more organic molecules onto the surface of graphene in a shorter time, thereby enhancing the dispersibility and tribological properties of graphene as a lubricant additive. Despite being regarded as one of the most promising lubricant additives, poor dispersion remains a huge obstacle for graphene applications. To solve this problem, the traditional method is to modify graphene with chemical functionalization under harsh conditions. The present investigation prepared modified reduced graphene oxide by the traditional method (MRGO-1) and microwave-assisted ball milling (MRGO-2). The chemical and structural features of MRGO-1 and MRGO-2 are examined by SEM, TEM, XRD, Raman, FTIR, and TGA analyses. The results indicate the microwave-assisted ball milling enables MRGO-2 to be more efficiently dispersed and functionalized than MRGO-1. MRGO-1 and MRGO-2 were introduced into poly alpha-olefin oil (PAO6) as lubricant additives, and the dispersion and tribological performances were tested. Compared with MRGO-1, the dispersion stability of MRGO-2 is increased by 73.8%. Due to its excellent dispersion performance, MRGO-2 can consistently maintain a low friction coefficient during the friction process, and the average friction coefficient is 49.01% lower than that of MRGO-1. Furthermore, the EDS on the worn area demonstrates the most efficient transfer of MRGO-2 on the friction contact interfaces. Finally, the reasons for the improvement in dispersion stability and tribological properties of graphene by microwave-assisted ball milling are explained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The miniaturization of electronic components has become a megatrend in the future, making colossal dielectric permittivity materials receive unprecedented attention. In this work, we proposed a universal route to achieve colossal dielectric permittivity, low loss factor and excellent dielectric temperature stability in rare earth doped perovskite oxide SrTiO 3. Sm doped SrTiO 3 ceramics prepared by high-energy ball milling exhibit ultrahigh dielectric permittivity 441,543, low loss factor 0.02, good dielectric temperature stability (<15 %) in the temperature range of −55–200 °C, and very high resistance 109Ω, which meets the EIA X9R standard, XPS and impedance spectra indicate that the electron-pinned defect-dipoles effect is the origin of colossal dielectric permittivity and low loss factor. This work shows that Sm-doped SrTiO 3 activated by high-energy ball milling has broad prospects in the applications of thermally-stable miniaturized capacitors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
