The quince is a fruit tree species that occupies 2% of the total orchard area in Romania. It can be utilized considering that quince is a fruit species used for ornamental purposes, for protective hedges, as a pollen-rich plant, for obtaining rootstock seedlings, in medicine, and the food industry. Following the identification of eco-pedological factors influencing the growth and development of quinces and the implementation of the stages underlying quince cultivation technology, it has been demonstrated that, in the pedoclimatic conditions of South Western Romania, establishing and exploiting a quince orchard is a highly profitable and interesting business with low investment and high returns. This fruit species yields abundantly, produces a large quantity of fruits, the production costs are low and can be recovered in a short time, the inter-row spaces can be used for intermediate crops, and the attractive selling price and the scarcity of quinces on the market provide the entrepreneur with an attractive income, making the business economically efficient. The article deals with the evolutionary situational stages towards the New Economy of Romania. Also, is described the horizon of the post-transformations for reaching the quasi-constant inverted levels between "tangible-intangible" for the transition to a business cycle in the New Knowledge-Based Economy and Risk. It turns out that if the GDP reflects the sum of the market value of all goods and services destined for final consumption, not intermediate ones, produced in all branches of the economy within Romania within one year, then by way of investigative proximity, business and manifestation cycles of these closely followed the evolutionary dimensional trends of similarity and aggregation with GDP. TOURISM -- Psychological aspects ,RESEARCH funding ,CULTURE ,QUESTIONNAIRES ,INTERVIEWING ,DESCRIPTIVE statistics ,BUSINESS ,RURAL conditions ,RESEARCH methodology ,COVID-19 pandemic - Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic was and continues to be a major challenge for tourist activities worldwide. Cultural tourism was mostly hit because of the social distancing measures, travel restrictions and ban on people gatherings for cultural events. The current study is trying to provide an overall image of the challenges local cultural tourism has faced during the COVID-19 pandemic in a predominantly rural area of Romania—the Buzău Carpathians and Subcarpathians. The area has a high tourist potential stemming from the complexity and diversity of the natural landscapes and the local historical setting. The survey relies on two field campaigns carried out in 2020 when 161 questionnaires were applied to tourists, businesses and residents. The results highlight the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on small businesses during and after the travel restrictions (e.g., revenue losses, temporary business shut-downs and layoffs/technical unemployment), but also on tourists' travelling preferences and sentiment and on residents' attitudes and behaviour.
