The vast majority of Chinese universities have embraced higher education reform that emphasizes a "publish or perish" ideology. This brings challenges to the early-career academics, especially those working in language-related fields. This paper employs a multiple case study to explore the identity tension of early career academics in applied linguistics. The three cases had diverse backgrounds and demonstrated different identity trajectories. Data were triangulated through narrative frames, interviews, and documents. Data analysis was conducted using an inductive approach that focused on interpreting the underlying meanings within the data, drawing upon relevant theoretical frameworks for guidance. The findings revealed an array of identity options (e.g., "temporary worker", "blind follower", "green pepper", "leek"). The factors that shaped the identity construction included the shifting value of being a teacher and researcher, intensified "publish-or-perish" ideology, and changing institutional and societal systems and requirements. Implications on teacher development for early-career academics in applied linguistics were proposed based on the findings.

Migrant families often invite grandparents to move to Australia when babies are born. In order to provide support to their families, many of these grandparents have to retire from their own professional careers and migrate to Australia to start new lives. Some speak English as an additional language, with or without formal education, prior to arriving in Australia. Once in Australia, these senior migrants can only access limited government-funded English learning, and they are frequently left to capitalize on informal learning. This paper discusses a case study of two Chinese-heritage senior migrants and the role English plays in their lives, and grandparenting in Australia. We argue that having the English capability for everyday activity within the family is key to their overall well-being, and that drawing directly on their past experiences and learning strengths can enhance their quality of life.

Purpose: Higher education institutions have a critical role in creating and disseminating the knowledge required to address the complex global challenges faced by global society, as summarized in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This role of higher education is linked with the concept of internationalization, which has recently been called upon to help contribute to tackle the global challenges and meet the SDGs, particularly through more attention to "Internationalization at Home" (IaH). This paper aims to examine the role of higher education in addressing the SDGs, especially with respect to the links between IaH and the SDGs. Design/methodology/approach: A case study of the International Campus of Zhejiang University (iZJU) is conducted to illustrate how iZJU, which is a pioneer of "Internationalization at Home" and an exemplar of sustainable campus in China, contributes to the value of the SDGs and makes an impact. Findings: The authors examine the practice of IaH at iZJU in the dimensions of organization, curriculum, people and campus, and the authors find evidence from the iZJU model in addressing the value of the SDG4, 6, 7, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17. Originality/value: First, the authors contribute to the literature on the role of higher education in addressing the SDGs, especially with respect to the links between IaH and the SDGs. Second, the authors contribute to the IaH literature by examining IaH from a Chinese perspective, as there has been little exploration of what IaH means beyond the European context. Third, the authors build on the analytical framework in the IaH literature in the dimensions of organization, curriculum and people and extend with a new dimension of campus. Fourth, the authors show that IaH is a comprehensive approach to include both curriculum internationalization and campus internationalization.

This paper contends that the inclusion of meso- and micro-level perspectives has been under exploration in the study of the internationalization of humanities and social sciences, in particular, in a state-mandated system where policy interventions in higher education and knowledge production have typically been aligned with state construction and national development. It argues that institutional and individual responses to state policies on the internationalization of humanities and social sciences should be investigated due to their respective roles in policymaking and implementation. It has, therefore, retrieved recent and historical policy documents during the post-WTO period and collected empirical data from two Chinese universities. A constructivist-interpretivist qualitative approach and a qualitative case study strategy were adopted for this investigation. Based on an in-depth analysis of the empirical data, this paper reveals the gap between the macro-level ambition of achieving outward-oriented diffusion of innovations and the local-level realities, as well as institutional dilemmas and conflicts in facilitating the internationalization.

International Mindedness (IM) is recognised as being a key component of an international education (Hill, 2015). However, IM is also acknowledged as an 'under-reported and under-researched aspect of elite [international] education' (Bunnell et al, 2020). This has led to the concept being described as 'enigmatic and under-defined' by researchers (Poole, 2017) and 'fuzzy' by practitioners (Barratt-Hacking et al, 2016: 38). This paper will attempt to conceptualise IM by drawing on Pierre Bourdieu's theories of fields and habitus. It will show that IM can not only be thought of in terms of a specific habitus but that the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the schools that offer International Baccalaureate programmes can, and do, also play a significant role in creating the field (and subsequent structures within the field) in which IM can take root in students. The data and analysis in this paper are taken from a more substantial, recent, mixed-methods case study focusing on IM. The case study was conducted in a Chinese IB international school (of the type described by Poole, 2019: catering largely for Chinese students) on the Chinese mainland that offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme. It is a private fee-paying school, which accepts students mainly from the local but also from the expatriate community.

This paper examines the enactment of critical literacy pedagogy in secondary English language teaching in the face of globalisation. This qualitative case study signals that global citizenship education (GCE) and English as a foreign language (EFL) teaching can converge through offering equitable and globally contextualised learning opportunities. The overarching themes presented here challenge the dominance of instrumentalist orientations of EFL education in mainland China today while mobilising pedagogical choices that affirm students' local and lived experiences in relation to international socio-political issues. Findings provide EFL educators nuanced insights into how critical global literacies are extended through critical understandings of literacies, interconnections from a personal to a global level, and opportunities for social actions on multicultural issues, thus fostering globally competent and bilingual learners who critically engage with the contested terrain of an increasingly globalised world.

The development of English as a global language has urged the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) to implement some reforms in relation to textbook design and curriculum development as well as the approaches to and goals of English language teaching (ELT). From the multilingual perspective, Global Englishes (GE) and translanguaging have both challenged the traditional native-oriented goal of ELT. Based on the level of language policy planning in the multilingual Greater Bay Area of China, this paper addresses the need to incorporate GE and translanguaging into textbook design and curriculum development. Referring to Byram's framework of cultural content in textbooks, and to the GE proposal of exposure of multilingualism/multiculturalism and respect of diverse culture and identity in ELT, the paper further reports a case study to analyse the cultural content of the textbook, "Speaking Critically: Intercultural Conversation." The paper also explores university students' attitudes towards the integration of Chinese local culture into textbooks. The paper ends by addressing some challenges associated with translating GE and translanguaging into textbook design and curriculum development, and it provides further implications of such a proposal.

This study aims to explore the current published research on Language Massive Open Online Courses (LMOOCs), outlining the types of papers, countries where studies were performed and institutions devoted to this field. Also, it intends to classify the reviewed literature following a general categorisation of MOOCs, and to identify the main trends and topics of interest for LMOOC researchers. Results show that there is still a lack of LMOOC-related articles in CALL (computer assisted language learning) journals, since most of the publications in the period reviewed (2012-18) are conference papers. The country in which most studies have been done so far is Spain and Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) is currently the most active institution in this area. Within the taxonomy established, the most popular categories of studies focused on LMOOC participants or providers and case studies. Systematic review of the published literature indicated that research trends in LMOOCs studies comprise: 1) conceptualisation of LMOOCs and their distinctive features; 2) attempts to find the most suitable model for language teaching and learning beyond the xMOOC/cMOOC dichotomy; 3) suitability of LMOOCs for languages for specific purposes (LSP) courses; 4) focus on the learners and their motivation and experience throughout the course; 5) reflection on the new role of the teacher; 6) instructional design and how it affects participants' learning and possible attrition; and 7) importance of social learning in LMOOCs. Nevertheless, LMOOCs is still an emerging field in need of further serious studies.

This paper reports on an emerging type of international school, which we refer to as the Chinese internationalized school. This school caters to Chinese citizens and aspires to offer a fusion of national and international curricula. The majority of internationalized schools in China are to be found in large metropolitan centers. Accordingly, the literature has focused on relatively affluent urban centers, such as Shanghai, Suzhou, and Beijing. However, in recent years, internationalized schools have started to emerge outside of metropolitan areas in what have been described as tier-3 and 4 cities, which could also be described as non-urban or rural contexts, due to their remote location and proximity from metropolitan centers. This study adds to the scholarship on internationalized schooling in China by focusing on the struggles that schools in a non-urban contexts are likely to face. Focusing on one school, our interviews with 16 teachers and the school's principal revealed that the school's remote location made recruiting students and teachers problematic. Moreover, the effects of COVID-19 compounded this issue, with many prospective students abandoning their plans to study abroad and instead choosing to study in a local school offering the Chinese national curriculum. As a result, the school was forced to recruit students who did not possess the necessary English language ability to access the content of the Cambridge curriculum. This created a washback effect, which impacted on students' academic achievement, their motivation, and the teaching strategies employed by the teachers. The paper concludes by considering what implications the findings might have for teachers and school leaders in internationalized schools in non-urban contexts.

The course Introduction to Linguistics aims at fostering students' rational understanding of human languages, fortifying students' linguistic and cultural awareness and critical thinking ability, and developing students' language research awareness and interest. The article analyzes the status quo of Introduction to Linguistics teaching in some local colleges and universities in China, elaborates the application of project-based research-oriented learning to Introduction to Linguistics teaching in X University from the aspects of teaching design, teaching implementation and teaching assessment, examines its teaching effects through a case study involving students' cognition and experience of the learning mode, the impact on students' knowledge acquisition and ability development, and students' evaluations about the teaching mode. The paper provides some pedagogical implications from the perspectives of teachers and students.

One of the primary characteristics of the holistic module learning model is task-driven learning. In this learning model, a task is a distinct activity or collection of distinct activities designed to assist students in achieving learning objectives. The purpose of this paper is to examine the effective design and implementation of task-driven learning using the composition and resolution of forces lesson as a case study. On the basis of the lesson study, the principles of task-driven learning design are summarized and some recommendations for task-driven learning implementation are made.

Adopting methods of the questionnaire, matched-guise test and semi-structured interview among different occupational groups of migrants in Chongqing, China, the present study investigates the correlation between dialect competence, dialect attitude and social inclusion. The results show that entrepreneur migrants have the highest dialect competence, followed by labor migrants and intellectual migrants. All the migrants' attitude toward Mandarin Chinese, mainly reflected in the "emotional cognitive" and "social evaluation" dimensions, is significantly more positive than that toward Chongqing dialect. In terms of social inclusion, the entrepreneur migrants rank highest, followed by intellectual migrants and labor migrants. Statistics indicate that there is a significant correlation between migrants' social inclusion and their dialect competence and attitude (in particular, the "emotional cognitive" dimension of their dialect attitude plays an important role in affecting their social inclusion). In addition, the semi-structured interview reveals that the migrants' language environment of working and living is a crucial factor affecting their dialect competence, dialect attitude, and hence their social inclusion. Based on the results, this paper provides suggestions on how to improve migrants' social inclusion from a language planning perspective.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to explore recent national human resource development (NHRD) practices in China through a literature review focusing on programs and activities that represent the roles and interactions among the government, industry and universities. Design/methodology/approach: To effectively consolidate previous work and conceptualize the recent development of the NHRD practices in China, a semi-narrative literature review was used to explore and analyze NHRD-related functions and activities. Findings: Findings from the literature review showed that although the central government still plays a predominant role in China, universities and corporations are increasingly playing a critical role in developing an innovative and skilled workforce. At the regional level, NHRD initiatives in China have been increasingly undertaken by universities, industry and government-industry-university collaborations. The authors also found a disparity between developed and underdeveloped regions in terms of NHRD in China. Research limitations/implications: This study used the triple helix model as a framework that provides an insightful lens for researchers to examine how various social entities interact with each other and jointly contribute to NHRD. Further case studies are needed to generate evidence-based knowledge to the NHRD literature. Practical implications: A more systematic NHRD leadership structure at both the national and local level is desired to unleash the potential of bottom-up development and active government-industry-university collaboration. To counter regional divergence in NHRD in China, intra- and cross-regional collaborations are helpful in improving resources distribution and workforce development. Originality/value: Based on open system theory, this study focused on programs and activities that represent the roles and interactions among the government, industry and university in Chinese NHRD through the lens of the triple helix model. In addition, this study offers a conceptual model of Chinese NHRD to help scholars and practitioners understand the transitional efforts in NHRD.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to examine how teachers engaged in curriculum deliberation through lesson study (LS) and how different types of teacher knowledge were elicited, co-constructed and transformed in integrated ways across LS stages. It also clarifies how different school-level orientations influence the nature, depth and scope of the deliberation. Design/methodology/approach: The study adopted an interpretive qualitative case study approach involving two schools, employing participant observations of LS cycles and post-LS teacher interviews. Thematic analysis and analytical coding were conducted. Findings: The two cases revealed core features of curriculum deliberation trajectories enabled by LS: problem identification, planning to unlock the educative potential of content and reflection on enactment for improvement. The types of teacher knowledge that informed deliberation on English language learning were uncovered to reveal LS teams' initial comprehension, collective reasoning and actions, and new knowledge derived. Pedagogical content knowledge was prominently drawn on in unlocking curriculum potential and transformed with the knowledge of student learning gained from the live lesson observations. The school-level orientations were found to influence the extent to which teachers can interrogate existing practices and co-construct knowledge. Originality/value: The study offers a nuanced understanding of curriculum thinking in LS teams, which is enabled by processes that construct the dialogic space for coordinating curriculum commonplaces to transform content into pedagogical representations to cultivate students' future capacities. It highlights the importance of viewing sustainable LS from an interconnected perspective that calls attention to the social contexts of deliberation.

Given the significance of cultivating students' autonomous learning ability, there is a need to develop an instructional model that can improve students' awareness and behavior of autonomous learning, as well as to explore the effectiveness and optimization of this model effectively. Taking college English course as a case study, this paper constructs a blended learning mode based on SPOC, which combines advantages of online and offline teaching. 15 types of nonredundant sets resulting from 500 questionnaires has been explored, and the optimal factor combinations have been found out from 15 types with the technology of data mining to optimize the mode constructed previously. Optimized blended learning mode, emphasizing the optimal factors more, has been applied to College English curriculum design and teaching practice in China. Surveys of students' achievement and autonomous learning behavior have been conducted after experiment. The results of the research indicate that the optimized blended learning mode will stimulate foreign language learners' learning motivation, cultivate their autonomous learning ability, so as to construct and improve their autonomous learning behavior further.

Adopting empowerment as a theoretical lens, this paper examines how a combination of structural (particularly class background) and individual factors (particularly empowering agents and a strong personal will to achieve) have contributed to school success and ethnic identity formation of minority students in China. Our longitudinal study on a Tibetan student (Dolma) from middle-class background who completed seven-year dislocated secondary schooling and four-year undergraduate studies in China's interior (Neidi) suggests the complexity and lack of institutional empowerment in every-day schooling. Although the implementation of preferential policies has expanded educational opportunities for ethnic minorities, the systemic failure to acknowledge the ethnic capital of minority groups at large accounts for the struggles along Dolma's educational mobilities. Thanks to two teachers who acted as empowering agents, Dolma's school adaptation in neidi was made less bumpy. While parental involvement was largely missing during the dislocated secondary schooling, her middle-class background greatly facilitated Dolma's social adaptation and educational success in undergraduate and postgraduate studies. With a strong will to represent Tibetan culture appropriately to the mainstream society, Dolma gradually learned to get ahead while retaining her ethnic salience. This study calls for more culturally reflexive policy changes to achieve institutional empowerment of ethnic minority students.

This article focuses on a case study of English language teachers, who are asked to teach intercultural communication to mixed classes of local and international students in Chinese Higher Education, although they do not specialize in this complex field. They were interviewed to find out about their experiences and perceptions of this 'improvised' Intercultural Teacherhood. The study shows that their engagement with intercultural communication differs while the presence of international students has a major impact on all the teachers' identity and sense of legitimacy. The paper ends on recommendations for (research on) preparing teachers to teach IC.

Purpose: This paper explores education group school principal's influence on professional learning community (PLC) development in China. Design/methodology/approach: Qualitative comparative case studies were conducted. Findings: The findings show that principals indicated principal-level factors were their major concerns regarding PLC cultural condition design, school needs were the major concerns in PLCs' relational and structural design, and educational-group factors impacted principals' extension of PLCs' structural conditions. Originality/value: This article concludes by presenting a "three-context" framework for understanding education group principal's influence on PLCs in China.

International schools in China have enjoyed soaring popularity in recent years. Many of these schools adopt curricular forms and/or school brands originating from the US, UK or Canada, and they brand themselves as American-style ("meishi"), British-style ("yingshi") and Sino-Canadian ("zhongjia") international schools respectively. Beyond this general observation about the different types of international schools, there is little empirical research done to understand how these different international schools position themselves "differently" in the national field of international schooling in China. Our study takes a transnational analytic perspective because international schools are models that travel. Our comparative and multiple case study of international schools from three Chinese cities aims to throw light on the idiosyncratic differences of these international schools, highlight commonalities they share, and point out issues and challenges in their transnational practices. We draw from the theory of positional good as our theoretical framing, but update this theory with a discussion about international schools to suit the context of our research. The paper concludes with a call for more governmental efforts to regulate and support the international school sector.

This paper reports on the results from a multiple-case study of how EFL school teachers in China coped with online assessment for 10 weeks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We looked into the online assessment practices of seven teachers from seven regions of China, through individual interview, teachers' journals, instructional designs for online teaching, and online classroom observation. The findings reveal that the participants went through a transition from neglecting assessment to overdoing assessment in their online teaching process. Whilst they used a range of online assessment methods, they did not systematically incorporate online assessment into their online curricula. Analysis shows that this issue is most likely to result from teachers' lack of understanding of the nature of online assessment as an intrinsic component of curriculum and a major means of enhancing students' learning. Implications will be discussed.

With the emergence of digital technologies, we have witnessed a rapid growth of the sharing economy in recent years. In fashion industry, sharing economy concept is also widely applied. Instances can be found all over the world, like Rent the Runway, Golden Tote, Stitch Fix, and Le Tote in the US, Air Closet in Japan, Y Closet, Ms Paris, and Dora's Dream in China, etc. In this paper, motivated by the industrial practices of fashion sharing platforms, we first conduct a literature review on business operations of sharing platforms, including the sharing platform operations, digital and information technologies employed in sharing economy, business models, and sustainability and circularity in business operations. Afterwards, we analyze the challenges faced by fashion sharing platforms by exploring the two leading fashion sharing platforms in the US and in China, respectively. Background Para-infectious encephalopathy is an acute inflammatory encephalopathy secondary to a systemic infectious disease, including acute necrotizing encephalopathy (ANE) and mild encephalitis/encephalopathy with a reversible splenial lesion (MERS). This paper reports on 3 cases of SARS-CoV-2 related to para-infectious encephalopathy diagnosed and treated in The Ordos Central Hospital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from December 2022 to February 2023, and reviews relevant literature to summarize the clinical characteristics of the disease. Methods and Results The 3 patients with SARS-CoV-2 related to para-infectious encephalopathy, including 2 cases of SARS-CoV-2 related to ANE and one case of SARS-CoV-2 related to MERS were reported. Three patients developed consciousness disorder 2-4 d after fever, and still had aphasia, mental abnormality, convulsions, etc.. SARS-CoV-2 throat swab was positive. Head MRI showed one abnormal signal of brain stem and bilateral thalamus, one abnormal signal of bilateral thalamus, and one abnormal pressure of corpus callosum. All received hormone shock therapy and (or) intravenous immunoglobulin. One died, and 2 cases were recovered. Conclusions SARS-CoV-2 related to para-infectious encephalopathy including SARS-CoV-2 related to ANE and MERS and other clinical subtypes, the former has rapid progress, severe disease, high disability rate and fatality rate and poor prognosis, while the latter has relatively mild symptoms and better prognosis. This paper represents the first research study conducted to date on the use of Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) to treat children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Mainland China. This study gives detailed clinical examples of how to use DMT in the treatment of this population, and demonstrates the linguistic, nonverbal, and relational changes that took place after 7 months of individual sessions. Data from interviews with caregivers yielded four themes regarding the impact of DMT: (1) Improvement of ability to use language and to communicate, (2) Expansion of nonverbal communication and understanding of bodily language, (3) Emergence of new behaviors: game playing, imagination, and bodily movement, and (4) Appearance of positive emotional expression. In addition, the VB-MAPP assessment was used to evaluate the children's language levels before and after DMT. Findings indicate that it is necessary, appropriate, and effective to use DMT in the treatment of children with ASD, and that this evidence-based treatment should receive further development in China. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the significant advantages of cloud technology in digital cultural heritage construction by analyzing public culture cloud platforms in China. The authors hope to provide references for other countries and regions on the applications of cloud computing techniques in digital cultural construction. Design/methodology/approach: The primary research methods involved interview and case analysis. A comprehensive understanding of cloud technology and China's culture cloud platforms were gained through research into extensive amounts of literature. Analyzing 21 culture cloud platforms offers a general understanding of culture clouds, while the Hunan Public Culture Cloud acts as a representative sample that gives detailed insight. Findings: This paper explores the considerable advantages of cloud computing in digital cultural construction from four aspects: integration of decentralized heterogeneous resources, coordination and cooperation, accurately matching user needs and promotion of balanced service development. Originality/value: Existing studies fall short of comprehensive investigations of culture cloud platforms and in-depth analysis of the advantages of cloud technology applications. This paper uses the construction of public culture cloud platforms in China as the research object. Further, this paper compares the construction status of different culture cloud platforms. With the rapid development of clothing online shopping, customers have a higher demand for more accurate clothing size recommendation systems. The work this paper presented is compatible with the four body types specified in the Chinese standard. Then, the subdivision was performed where each of the major body types corresponded to four characteristic indices. In addition, each characteristic index had three attributes. Therefore, the female body can be subdivided into 81 types for each major type. Subsequently, this paper suggests an improved clothing size recommendation system that considers subdivided body types. The recommendation criteria in the approach were refined by a pressure distribution analysis through a virtual fitting simulation. Finally, case studies were conducted on customers of body type A (accounting for 52.73% of bodies) to demonstrate the procedures of the proposed approach. Practitioner summary: This study proposes an improved clothing size recommendation approach based on the subdivision of code-specified female body types. Background: It is currently the most cost-effective management model to have multiple professionals from relevant institutions collaborate so as to provide integrated chronic disease management services. The "classified, color-coded, hierarchical and regionalized" chronic disease management model in Youxi County, Fujian Province is a typical case in China. However, related research is limited. This paper aims to analyze the practice measures and lessons learned in Youxi County, focusing on the professional integration of service providers. Methods: From January to March 2021, interviews with 15 key informants in Youxi County were conducted to collect qualitative data, which was analyzed by the thematic framework method as well as the policy data, using the professional integration dimension in the evaluation framework of the integrated healthcare system. Results: A series of measures were taken, such as improving the professional division and collaboration mechanism, establishing the incentive and restraint mechanism geared toward chronic disease management, formulating norms and standards of chronic disease management for patients with different color labels, and promoting the compatibility of inter-professional value and culture under the governmental institutional supply and the organizational support of the tight county healthcare alliance in Youxi County, to prompt professionals of different levels and types to collaborate in order to provide integrated chronic disease management services. However, some problems remained, such as limited capacity of primary health care, the relatively narrow range and weak effect of the incentive and restraint mechanism, inadequate implementation of the norms and standards, and so forth. Conclusions: Our findings provide reference for other regions in China and other lowand middle-income countries in exploring the integrated chronic disease management model. Long-term follow-up surveys and mixed research designs are required in the future to enrich relevant evidence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: This paper aimed to examine the longitudinal validity of self-rated health (SRH) and whether it would be affected by possible changes in evaluation standards (i.e., response shift) over time. Design: Data are from a longitudinal survey of a nationally representative sample in China. Analytical sample was restricted to respondents aged 45 and above (n = 15,893). Individual fixed effects models were used to analyze changes in ratings on health anchoring vignettes and self-rated health over time. Main outcome measures: SRH at two time points with a -two-year span. Results: Both SRH and anchoring vignettes ratings displayed changes over a two-year span for all the studied age groups. Compared with the self-assessed change in health ("How would you rate your health as compared to that of last year?"), changes in SRH reported over time displayed a more stable and optimistic pattern. Sleep-related hypermotor epilepsy (SHE) should be differentiated from NREM parasomnias in terms of a similar clinical presentation. The lack of ictal and/or interictal epileptic encephalographic (EEG) features in SHE complicates the differential diagnosis. Moreover, epileptic paroxysmal arousal (PA) does not present with associated hyperkinetic motor events typical of SHE, and this should be carefully evaluated from confusional arousal (CA), a type of NREM parasomnia. In this term, this paper aims to present three patients referred to the Sleep and Disorders Unit with the prediagnosis of CA but diagnosed as epileptic PA following video-polysomnography (PSG) with multichannel EEG recordings; and aims to discuss the clinical, EEG, and PSG characteristics of these patients on the basis of literature data. The physical and educational exclusion of children with special educational needs and disabilities from effective and relevant education is a persisting issue in Chinese schools. To move beyond 'lazy inclusivism' and support authentic change towards inclusive education, this paper explores the wisdom of Chinese educators and investigates how inclusion can be interpreted and practised through a qualitative study in an inclusive urban school in East Coast China. The headteacher and eight teachers were interviewed. The findings give voice to teachers and highlight the importance of understanding inclusion in its broad sense as respecting and valuing all members of the school community. Specific strategies were also shared by participants such as parental involvement, teacher training, themed campus décor, emphasis on rich extra-curriculum activities, and the innovation of 'micro-semester'. Through analysing teachers' reported 'successful' experiences in inclusion, the discussions explore how these teachers exercise agency to actively promote inclusion despite structural constraints. The paper analyses teachers' interpretations and practical strategies in an inclusive school from the perspective of teacher agency and contributes to building up a strong base of empirical evidence that enriches the concept and facilitates the implementation of inclusive education in China. In the context of urbanisation and the decline of the countryside, reverse entrepreneurship cannot be separated from integration, referring to a process of mutual trust and cooperation between reverse (returnee or immigrant from urban areas) entrepreneur, host community and external stakeholders for sustainable livelihoods. With a geographic focus on poor areas of China, this paper aims to reveal key factors behind successful initiatives of reverse entrepreneurship to address challenges facing local communities, and pathways for mobilising and effectively using various resources, both internally and externally. These objectives are addressed through multiple cases of tourism development in Ganzi, a Tibetan Minority Prefecture of Sichuan. This paper contributes to the literature on entrepreneurial integration to debates on reverse entrepreneurship in three aspects. Firstly, entrepreneurial integration starts from social embeddedness, interconnecting and interacting between reverse entrepreneur(s) and the host community to understand local challenges and share a new vision for sustainable livelihoods. Secondly, entrepreneurial integration is essentially an innovation platform to develop or enhance social capital (both bonding and bridging) for mobilising and effective use of critical resources. The rate of early misdiagnosis in patients with nodular fasciitis of the ear is high. To provide a basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment, we aimed to summarise the clinical manifestations, imaging results, pathological findings, treatment strategies, and postoperative follow-up results for three cases of paediatric nodular fasciitis (two girls, one boy) treated in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, at Beijing Children's Hospital of Capital Medical University from 2018 to 2020. The average age at diagnosis was 24 months. Lesions occurred in the left ear in two cases and right ear in one case. All patients had a history of biopsy before surgery. Rapid growth was observed following biopsy in two patients, and anti-inflammatory treatment was ineffective in all three cases. Fluorescence in situ hybridisation analysis of ubiquitin-specific peptidase 6 (USP6) was performed in two of the three cases, with positive results. The lesions exhibited hypo-intensity or iso-intensity on T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and heterogeneous hyper-intensity on T2-weighted MRI. "Fascial tail" signs were observed on imaging in all cases. Surgical resection was performed in all cases. Intact ear appearance was observed at follow-up, and there were no cases of recurrence. Conclusion: Combining clinical features with imaging findings may improve the accuracy of preoperative diagnosis in patients with nodular fasciitis. In addition to pathological findings, genetic testing for USP6 may aid in diagnosis. The final diagnosis should be based on comprehensive assessment. Complete surgical resection can prevent recurrence. Insufficient residents’ participation in the renovation of old communities is ubiquitous in urban China. This paper attempts to explain the reasons for this phenomenon. Based on the theory of anticommons, this research intends to explore how the fragmentation of property rights impedes residents’ participation, and then unravel the mechanism of conflicts and cooperation among various stakeholders in renovation projects. Abundant qualitative data in terms of the situation of property rights were collected by semi-structured interviews from fieldwork on seven renovation projects in Haikou, Hainan Province, China. Then we compared the seven projects to examine the relationship between property rights and resident’s participation. This study shows that characteristics of residents’ participation vary from types of property rights in the renovation of old communities. Residents’ participation can be facilitated by the privatization of property rights, but fragmented property rights tend to impede participation. Meanwhile, administrative obstacles between street offices, residents’ committees, and homeowners’ associations will ebb residents’ motivation for participation. Integrated energy services will have multiple values and far-reaching significance in promoting energy transformation and serving "carbon peak and carbon neutralization". In order to balance the supply and demand of power system in integrated energy, it is necessary to establish a scientific model for power load forecasting. Different algorithms for short-term electric load forecasting considering meteorological factors are presented in this paper. The correlation between electric load and meteorological factors is first analyzed. After the principal component analysis (PCA) of meteorological factors and autocorrelation analysis of the electric load, the daily load forecasting model is established by optimal support vector machine (OPT-SVM), Elman neural network (ENN), as well as their combinations through linear weighted average, geometric weighted average, and harmonic weighted average method, respectively. Based on the actual data of an industrial park of Nantong in China, the prediction performance in the four seasons with the different models is evaluated. The main contribution of this paper is to compare the effectiveness of different models for short-term electric load forecasting and to give a guideline to build the proper methods for load forecasting. Purpose: Grappling with the sweeping pandemic, the small hospitality business (SHB), smaller in scale and weaker in risk mitigation, has been seriously affected. The purpose of this study aims to supplement the unrepresented area of SHB in China from the digital perspective by drawing on instrumentalization theory (IT). Design/methodology/approach: Based on two appropriate and detailed SHB cases, this paper adopted a qualitative approach to understand and conceptualize the focal issue. Findings: This study identified the factors affecting SHB at operational, managerial and transformational levels amidst the crisis. It further developed a theoretical framework of the SHB rebound matrix, highlighting the importance of digitization and digitalization. Research limitations/implications: The research theoretically confirmed that SHB is internally, externally and essentially restricted and developed a corresponding rebound matrix. It practically supports SHB's transformation by making recommendations to unleash the potential of digital business. Rainfall impacts local water quantity and quality. Accurate and timely prediction of rainfall is highly desirable in water management and hydrogeologic hazards mitigation, which is critical for the environmentally sustainable development. Previous rainfall prediction processes are complex and computationally costly for its intrinsic high uncertainty and variability. In this paper, a data-driven approach is applied to predict the rainfall based on historic data via time-series modeling and optimally pruned extreme learning machine (OP-ELM). The rainfall datasets collected from six counties within Three Georges Reservoir are utilized as case studies in this research, first, the rainfall data is pre-processed with outlier removal and missing value imputation, and the monthly ahead difference is computed based on the instant average of monthly rainfall. Next, the autocorrelation function and partial autocorrelation function were computed and the Ljung–Box test statistic is utilized to explore the significance of the historic lagged-series. All the statistically significant historic lags are selected as inputs for prediction algorithms. Last, an OP-ELM algorithm is developed to predict the monthly rainfall with tenfold cross validation. Four activation functions: the sigmoid, sine, hardlim, and radial basis function, are considered in the OP-ELM. The prediction performance is evaluated with metrics including mean absolute error, mean absolute percentage error, root mean square error, and max error rate. Overall, the computational results indicate the proposed framework outperforms the other benchmarking machine learning algorithms through six case studies in Three Gorges Reservoir, China. Psychological hotlines are widely used, convenient, and effective means to help people overcome their stress reactions. In this article, we focused on integrating somatic and mental-micro interventions into the psychological assistance hotline process. In addition to verbal communication, dance movement therapy based on the body-mind interaction can help clients re-establish their connection with psychological resources, such as creativity and resilience in addition to verbal communication. Based on the basic steps and core points of the SAFER-R model, we explored how embodied movement elements can be applied to the hotline setting for body-mind micro-interventions. Furthermore, we proposed the CREATE model and explained how it can be used to intervene and realise the basic functions of psychological hot line service through four case vignettes. Through this article, we added new perspectives and options for the provision of psychological support during public health events, and we enriched the working methods of psychological hotline assistance. Background: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of foraminoplasty using large-channel endoscopy during TESSYS on the biomechanics of the lumbar spine. Methods: A complete lumbar spine model, M1, was built using 3D finite elements, and models M2 and M3 were constructed to simulate the intraoperative removal of the superior articular process of L5 using a trephine saw with diameters of 5 mm and 8.5 mm, respectively, and applying normal physiological loads on the different models to simulate six working conditions—anterior flexion, posterior extension, left-right lateral bending, and left-right rotation—to investigate the displacement and facet joint stress change of the surgical segment, and the disc stress change of the surgical and adjacent segments. Results: Compared with the M1 model, the M2 and M3 models showed decreased stress at the L4-5 left FJ and a significant increase in stress at the right FJ in forward flexion. In the M2 and M3 models, the L4-5 FJ stresses were significantly greater in left lateral bending or left rotation than in right lateral bending or right rotation. The right FJ stress in M3 was greater during left rotation than that in M2, and that in M2 was greater than that in M1. The L4-5disc stress in the M3 model was greater during posterior extension than that in the M1 and M2 models. The L4-5disc stress in the M3 model was greater in the right rotation than in the M2 model, and that in the M2 model was greater than that in the M1 model. Conclusion: Foraminoplasty using large-channel endoscopy could increase the stress on the FJ and disc of the surgical segment, which suggested unnecessary and excessive resection should be avoided in PTED to minimize biomechanical disruption. Background: The construction of the ordered health delivery system in China aims to enhance equity and optimize the efficient use of medical resources by rationally allocating patients to different levels of medical institutions based on the severity of their condition. However, superior hospitals have been overcrowded, and primary healthcare facilities have been underutilized in recent years. China has developed a new case-based payment method called "Diagnostic Intervention Package" (DIP). The government is trying to use this economic lever to encourage medical institutions to actively assume treatment tasks consistent with their functional positioning and service capabilities. Methods: This study takes Tai'an, a DIP pilot city, as a case study and uses an interrupted time series analysis to analyze the impact of DIP reform on the case severity and service scope of medical institutions at different levels. Results: The results show that after the DIP reform, the proportion of patients receiving complicated procedures (tertiary hospitals: β3 = 0.197, P < 0.001; secondary hospitals: β3 = 0.132, P = 0.020) and the case mix index (tertiary hospitals: β3 = 0.022, P < 0.001; secondary hospitals: β3 = 0.008, P < 0.001) in tertiary and secondary hospitals increased, and the proportion of primary-DIP-groups cases decreased (tertiary hospitals: β3 = -0.290, P < 0.001; secondary hospitals: β3 = -1.200, P < 0.001), aligning with the anticipated policy objectives. However, the proportion of patients receiving complicated procedures (β3 = 0.186, P = 0.002) and the case mix index (β3 = 0.002, P < 0.001) in primary healthcare facilities increased after the reform, while the proportion of primary-DIP-groups cases (β3 = -0.515, P = 0.005) and primary-DIP-groups coverage (β3 = -2.011, P < 0.001) decreased, which will reduce the utilization efficiency of medical resources and increase inequity. Conclusion: The DIP reform did not effectively promote the construction of the ordered health delivery system. China has been increasingly involved in debt restructurings for low- and middle-income countries. This paper presents case studies of China's debt relief actions overseas: Iraq (2003), Cuba (2010), Seychelles (2011), Chad (2017), Zambia (2018), Mozambique (2018), Cameroon (2019), Republic of Congo (2019) and Venezuela (in progress). These cases shed light on the commonalities and particularities of China's actions, and underline the evolution of its restructuring terms. We highlight the lack of formal coordination between China and other creditors. China almost exclusively made its own decision on providing restructurings and restructuring terms. The magnitude of China's debt relief actions remains generally limited and varies across countries, depending on whether other creditors have also provided debt restructurings. China seems to have a growing preference for cancellation of accumulated arrears to nominal debt principal reduction. The debt rescheduling cases have significantly increased in recent years as well. Background: Genetic generalized epilepsy (GGE) accounts for nearly one-third of all epilepsies. The feature of status epilepticus (SE) in patients with GGE has been rarely studied. We aimed to determine the electroclinical characteristics of SE in patients with GGE. Methods: In this retrospective study, nine patients with GGE were enrolled at Xijing Hospital, Xi'an, China from May 2014 to May 2020. SE was confirmed by 24-h video-EEG recording. The demography, clinical manifestation, brain MRI and SE pattern were analyzed. Results: Of the nine patients in the study, seven were female. The mean age of the patients at the time of inclusion was 16.8 years (range 7–31 years), and the mean age at the onset of epilepsy was 10.9 years (range 6–17 years). The follow-up time ranged from 3 months to 6 years. Myoclonic absence status was identified in four patients showing eyelid myoclonia with absence and one patient showing perioral myoclonia with absences. Myoclonic SE was identified in three patients showing juvenile myoclonic epilepsy. Autonomic SE was found in one patient with eyelid myoclonia with absence. SE was terminated by oral midazolam in four patients. In the other five patients, SE terminated spontaneously. Conclusions: The seizure type of SE in patients with GGE is often consistent with their major symptoms. Oral midazolam may be an option to terminate SE in patients with GGE. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Object. In order to achieve Healthy China 2030 and an effective and sequential diagnosis and treatment system, family doctor contracting is a crucial strategy for improving graded diagnosis and treatment and achieving universal health. Through the examination of data on community members' medical expenditures, this research investigates the influence of contracting on residents' primary care consultation behavior. Methods. Using a quantitative research approach based on information about residents' medical payment patterns, this study aims to examine the effect of family doctor contracting on residents' medical costs. Therefore, a two-part model and a Heckman two-stage model are used to explore the impact of contracting on residents' medical expenses in the community hospital based on the sample of contracted and noncontracted residents and the basic information and monthly checkout data of the residents provided by a community hospital in Beijing. Conclusion. Specifically, contracting increased residents' healthcare expenditures in community hospitals by increasing the number of departments and the frequency of visits, according to the results, which indicate that contracting significantly increased residents' healthcare costs in community hospitals. The frequency and number of departments in community hospitals for two target groups—the elderly and patients with chronic diseases—have increased significantly as a result of contracting, according to subgroup analysis. This finding suggests that family physicians make it possible for the daily care and treatment of these two priority groups to be met to a greater extent at the primary level. The empirical findings of this study reveal that the family doctor contracting system has a significant impact on how primary care and hierarchical treatment patterns are established. Although several studies suggested considering gender in online learning, the literature about how male and female students would behave is fragmented. Little attention has been paid to the effect of gender on online learning behavioural patterns. This study aimed at investigating the roles of gender in online learning behaviours by analyzing the gender-related differences of students' online learning behavioural patterns. We used the case study approach with descriptive statistical analysis, lag sequential analysis, and temporal log data analysis to investigate gender-related differences in students' online learning behaviours. The results indicated no significant difference in the counts of occurrence of online single learning behaviours between female and male students. However, differences were observed in online learning behaviour patterns and how the online learning activities were performed over time. Females were more active in learning behaviours associated with achievement reports and peer list viewing. They tended to view their achievement reports before starting the main course learning activities, indicating that female students might be achievement-oriented. The findings provide further insights from a temporal perspective about how gender is associated with online learning. The labor markets for care professionals are a perennial topic of discussion. Advanced practice nurses (APN), as an advanced role in nursing, arose to solve the shortage of primary health care professionals. Prior research has advanced several areas of exploration for APNs' training or employing methods in Chinese hospitals. However, this leaves a key imperative unexplored: the management strategy of APNs in hospitals. The present study seeks to explore the management strategy of APNs in Chinese hospitals. The resource orchestration theory served as the guide as the multi-case study method investigated 18 case hospitals, gathered information from a variety of case data sources, and summarized the management strategies for hospitals' advanced practice nurses. Four types of APN management strategies—expert customized type, hierarchical linkage type, multidisciplinary benefit type, and professional penetration type—have been identified through resource orchestration. Research on the welfare state often examines social policies in democratic regimes separately from social policies in authoritarian regimes. Two bodies of research have emerged, as the extant literature views these political systems as sufficiently distinct to merit the division of analysis. In this article, we challenge the existing approach by showing that differing regime types can indeed be analysed together. By looking for patterns of similarities, rather than differences, we bring the two literatures into conversation and show how a common factor can trigger social policy expansion in both regime types. Using case studies of India and China, the two most populous democratic and authoritarian regimes, this article illustrates how the expansion of policies that serve low-income groups – India's Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (NREGA) and China's Minimum Livelihood Guarantee Scheme (dibao) – were both prompted by social mobilisation. Background: Autologous osteochondral transplantation (AOT) is a treatment option for large or cystic osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLTs), with promising clinical results. However, donor-site morbidity (DSM) has always been a concern with this procedure. Purpose: To investigate the clinical and radiological outcomes of autograft harvesting from the medial trochlea for OLTs. Study Design: Case series; Level of evidence, 4. Methods: A total of 46 consecutive patients were included after AOT procedures for OLTs, with donor autografts (single or double plugs) harvested from the medial trochlea of the ipsilateral knee. Lysholm scores were collected postoperatively at 12-month intervals to assess clinical outcomes. Postoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used to assess the donor site using the MOCART (magnetic resonance observation of cartilage repair tissue) score. DSM was evaluated at 12-month intervals. Statistical analysis was performed to compare patients treated with single-plug and double-plug AOT procedures and establish whether there was any correlation between MOCART and Lysholm scores. Results: The mean follow-up period was 98.3 months (range, 67-144 months). The Lysholm scores for all patients were 92.5 ± 6.1 and 99.9 ± 0.2 at the 12-month and final follow-ups, respectively. MRI of the donor sites was taken at an average of 93.8 ± 20.5 (range, 61-141) months postoperatively, and the mean MOCART score was 76.2 ± 4.9. The overall incidence of DSM in this study was 4.3% at 12 months, postoperatively, which decreased to 0% at the 24-month follow-up. There was no significant difference in either the Lysholm score (P =.16) or the MOCART score (P =.83) between the single-plug and double-plug groups at the final follow-up. There were no significant correlations between MOCART and Lysholm scores and patient age, number of grafts, or body mass index. Conclusion: According to the study findings, the DSM of donor autografts harvested from the medial trochlea was low, and the number (single or double) of grafts did not affect the functional outcome. Proponents of distributive justice with regard to energy hold that every household has the right to affordable access to energy. However, when passively participating in clean energy reform policies, households, and especially low-income households, are often forced to use energy beyond the scope of affordability, resulting in distributive injustice. However, research on the quantitative estimation of injustice in energy distribution is still rare. In this paper, an evaluation model of energy vulnerability and distributive justice is established through the "reverse deduction method," and the change value of energy vulnerability before and after energy reform is used to calculate the loss value of distributive justice, which is used as the basis for energy policy evaluation. Taking the policy of replacing coal with natural gas for rural heating in Gaocheng District, Hebei Province, China as a case study, the value of lost distributive justice is calculated. The results show that 34.51% of households experienced distributive injustice after the energy reform, while 19.34% of households improved their energy vulnerability and achieved energy justice through energy subsidy policies. However, 46.15% of households were able to adapt to the energy reform independently without subsidies, which indicates a waste of resources in the energy subsidy policy. The policy implication of these results is that differentiated energy subsidy policies should be implemented according to household energy vulnerability, so as to maximize the policy benefits on the premise of ensuring justice in household energy distribution and minimizing injustice. Summary: Pertuzumab is a recombinant anti-HER2 humanized monoclonal antibody widely used for the adjuvant treatment of HER2-positive breast cancer. Its safety is well established with the most common adverse effects being diarrhea and rash. To our knowledge, severe pertuzumab-induced ocular adverse events have never been reported. Herein, we describe several cases of pertuzumab/QL1209 (pertuzumab biosimilar)-induced blurred vision in healthy Chinese male subjects after a single injection of 420 mg pertuzumab/QL1209. Persistent optic nerve damage and vision loss occurred in the most severe case even after ophthalmic treatment. We conducted whole-exome sequencing (WES) of DNA samples from 5 cases and 13 controls to analyze the potential genetic factors and identified some associated variants (rs80303690 in RBM24, rs117375173 in CASR, rs1805097 in IRS2, and rs1227049 in CDH23). Furthermore, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways and Gene Ontology (GO) terms gene enrichment analyses were carried out for differentially expressed genes clustered in the PI3K/AKT/mTOR and Ras/Raf/MAPK signaling pathways, which were exactly activated by HER2 phosphorylation. In summary, this is the first report describing the occurrence of ocular toxicity induced by pertuzumab in the Chinese population and exploring the possible genetic mechanisms. To address the frequent emergence of ecological problems, ecology has intersected with various disciplines. From the perspective of linguistic ecology, ecological literacy is an important concept that combines the subjects of ecology and linguistics. It not only discusses ecological issues, but also establishes a linguistic framework. Here, we constructed a quantitative method of assessing ecological literacy from the perspective of linguistic ecology. Ecological literacy was divided into five parts: ecological knowledge literacy, ecological awareness literacy, ecological ethics literacy, ecological emotional literacy, and ecological behavioral literacy. Each of these was set with four quantitative indicators that were evaluated through eight questions. A case study was conducted to investigate the ecological literacy of the inhabitants of Guiyang City, one of China's top ten ecologically advanced cities. The results showed that the proposed assessment method was an effective way to evaluate the level of ecological literacy comprehensively. In the case analysis, the overall ecological literacy level of Guiyang inhabitants was relatively good, and the levels of the five specific dimensions of them in descending order were as follows: ecological ethics literacy, ecological emotional literacy, ecological awareness literacy, ecological knowledge literacy, and ecological behavioral literacy.
