In the article, "Smear Gel Paper for a Contingent Marble Sculpture. A Reply to some Critics" Sorgner answers selected criticisms of his monograph "We have always been cyborgs" (2022) which were put forward by Russel Blackford, Steven Umbrello, Steve Fuller, Maurizio Balistreri, and John Danaher. The meaning of the term "violence" was central for issues raised by Russel Blackford. Steven Umbrello questions whether Sorgner has sufficiently taken into consideration the ethical turn towards design-embedded norms and values. According to Steve Fuller, Sorgner presents a bioconservative, cishuman transhumanism. There is a difference between replanning the human and enhancing human capacities, according to Maurizio Balistreri. John Danaher confronts Sorgner's weak transhumanism with arguments in favour of a classic version of transhumanism. Each criticism is being dealt with in a separate sub-chapter. The article reports that like several poems by Wallace Stevens, the composition of his wartime poem "Esthétique du Mal" was partly shaped by the dimensions of the legal notepad sheets on which it was drafted. Topics include examines when critics address the genesis of Stevens's poems, they reflexively recall the image of Stevens composing his poems on walks to and from work.

This is my response to criticisms of my paper "The Problem with Probability" (JPKE, 2023, n. 3) given by Dequech, Cantillo, and Skillman and Veneziani (also appearing in JPKE 2023, n. 3). The ability to make informed decisions in complex scenarios is crucial for intelligent automotive systems. Traditional expert rules and other methods often fall short in complex contexts. Recently, reinforcement learning has garnered significant attention due to its superior decision-making capabilities. However, there exists the phenomenon of inaccurate target network estimation, which limits its decision-making ability in complex scenarios. This paper mainly focuses on the study of the underestimation phenomenon, and proposes an end-to-end autonomous driving decision-making method based on an improved TD3 algorithm. This method employs a forward camera to capture data. By introducing a new critic network to form a triple-critic structure and combining it with the target maximization operation, the underestimation problem in the TD3 algorithm is solved. Subsequently, the multi-timestep averaging method is used to address the policy instability caused by the new single critic. In addition, this paper uses Carla platform to construct multi-vehicle unprotected left turn and congested lane-center driving scenarios and verifies the algorithm. The results demonstrate that our method surpasses baseline DDPG and TD3 algorithms in aspects such as convergence speed, estimation accuracy, and policy stability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper improves the timeliness of satellite mission planning to cope with the rapid response to changes. In this paper, satellite mission planning is investigated. Firstly, the satellite dynamics model and mission planning model are established, and an improved Monte Carlo tree (Improved-MCTS) algorithm is proposed, which utilizes the Monte Carlo tree search in combination with the state uncertainty network (State-UN) to reduce the time of exploring the nodes (At the MCTS selection stage, the exploration of nodes specifically refers to the algorithm needing to decide whether to choose nodes that have already been visited (exploitation) or nodes that have not been visited yet (exploration)). The results show that this algorithm performs better in terms of profit (in this paper, the observation task is given a weight of 0–1, and each planned task will receive a profit; that is, a profit will be assigned at the initial moment) and convergence speed compared to the ant colony algorithm (ACO) and the asynchronous advantage actor critic (A3C). The paper focuses on two novels by Dimitar Agelov ("When the Man was not", published in 1941, and "The Brave Chung", published in 1953) that were defined as fantasy by literary critics. The novels are intended for children and teenagers, so the emphasis is as much on the fun intrigue as it is on a certain didactic idea. The paper comments on the problem of knowledge as a leading idea of the two novels. They present the life of several generations of monkeys which were named by the author chungs and poma. Under influence of hereditary factors, the environment and the changes of the climate the animals change into people. The main factor leading to this change is the characters start putting in the work.. Every day they do something to survive the fight with other animals, provide food, or adapt to nature. The paper investigates and refines the proportionalist solution to the causal exclusion problem developed by Menzies and List. First and foremost, it explores the implications of their inter-level compatibility result. It is highlighted that in theory the inter-level causal compatibility of realizer and realized properties allows for scenarios where the higher-level property is multiply realized. By developing concrete illustrations, the paper proves this to be an empirically plausible option. Further non-trivial implications of the framework are unpacked to show that the sensitivity of causal relations to background conditions is as important in deciding on the existence and the direction of exclusion as sensitivity to the realization of the cause. This insight also opens the way to further refinements: a richer reconceptualization of upwards exclusion and a plausible answer to a critic of the Menzies and List project. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Criticism as a result of an evaluation process is a common topic of everyday communication within the working environment. The research starts from the assumption that criticism significantly affects the self-perception of employees and it evokes negative emotions that in the end influence job satisfaction and motivation to perform work tasks. The paper presents the frame of a new concept of impact that the criticism has on employee motivation and the first results of the study prove that concept in particular. The main aim was to define whether criticism expressed inappropriately evokes more negative emotions. Hypotheses that focus on its correlation with gender, age, level of education and work status are discussed in the continuation of the paper. The research was conducted on 520 participants in Croatia. The results show a significant impact of the quality of communication on the perception of criticism and its significance in correlation with gender, while hypotheses that correlated evoking negative emotions when expressing criticism within the working environment with age, level of education and work status were rejected. The hypothesis about the correlation between expressing criticism inappropriately and the occurrence of demotivation was rejected. Implications for Central European audience: The working environment is recently focusing on the digital transformation of all processes and so communication as well. By this transformation, people become alienated and lose basic communication skills. This paper brings together the presentation of long-established communication starting points and the most modern thinking and research on the impact of communication on the motivation, satisfaction and productivity of employees. Based on this, but also with the presented results of the conducted research, it proposes a new communication concept of communicating negative messages that are an integral part of everyday business communication in the organization. This paper introduces a model-free optimization method based on reinforcement learning (RL) aimed at resolving the issues of active power and frequency oscillations present in a traditional virtual synchronous generator (VSG). The RL agent utilizes the active power and frequency response of the VSG as state information inputs and generates actions to adjust the virtual inertia and damping coefficients for an optimal response. Distinctively, this study incorporates a setting-time term into the reward function design, alongside power and frequency deviations, to avoid prolonged system transients due to over-optimization. The soft actor critic (SAC) algorithm is utilized to determine the optimal strategy. SAC, being model-free with fast convergence, avoids policy overestimation bias, thus achieving superior convergence results. Finally, the proposed method is validated through MATLAB/Simulink simulation. Compared to other approaches, this method more effectively suppresses oscillations in active power and frequency and significantly reduces the setting time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Multi-UAV cluster technology is a hot topic in modern electronic countermeasures research. Based on the "OODA loop" theory of electronic countermeasures, this paper analyzes the effectiveness evaluation method of multi-UAV collaborative electronic countermeasures. We establish an electronic countermeasures correlation state analysis model based on CRITIC weighting and improved gray correlation theory. This method combines multi-UAV collaborative scene examples and use the gray state correlation analysis method based on the dynamic resolution coefficient. We simulate the effects of electronic countermeasures and various influencing factors on the expected task objectives and verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results show that this method can better adapt to the dynamic electronic countermeasures scenarios of multi-UAV clusters and has certain participation value for comprehensively and systematically improving the effectiveness evaluation of electronic countermeasures. The article present panel discussion at MLA 2023, examining different aspects of author Herman Melville's writing styles and his interactions with literary critics, include the application of Marxist literary criticism to Melville's work and incorporation of Melville into U.S. historical narratives.

The language of literary texts is a complex and multiform phenomenon. One of the problems connected with it is the employment of non-standard linguistic varieties. This paper focuses on the especial situation in Czech culture in the 1950s. In that decade, literary critics and linguists strictly required the use of Standard Czech and the restriction of non-standard varieties in literary texts. On the other hand, various inedited works were written the language of which was based on the so-called Common Czech, colloquialisms and slangs. The main part of the paper describes the language of stories by Jan Zábrana (from the years 1954 to 1957) in relation to the official requirements. Zábrana's stories (published posthumously in the 1990s) represent a radical denying of these requirements. Zábrana depicts spontaneous and informal spoken communication that differs from the idea of cultivated standard expression. Both the figures and the narrator consistently use nonstandard linguistic means and colloquial lexicon (including vulgarisms). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In 1880s Britain, Constance Naden defended "hylo-idealism," a theory aiming to unify materialism with idealism. This paper offers the first sustained study of Naden's metaphysical system. On this new reading of Naden's hylo-idealism, her materialism is carefully qualified; and her idealism is distinctively Kantian, her construal of the external cosmos as Unknown placing her within the Victorian school of metaphysical agnostics. I distinguish Naden's system from that of fellow hylo-idealist Robert Lewins and argue it lies closer to that of evolutionist Thomas Henry Huxley. Against various critics, I show that Naden has the resources to rebuff objections facing hylo-idealism. This paper seeks to open further avenues for Naden scholarship and help us better understand Victorian metaphysics more generally. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main research of this paper is decision making under the dual probabilistic linguistic term sets (DPLTSs). This paper introduces a method, which combined TODIM method and CRITIC method. In this research, the CRITIC method is used to determine the weight, and the distance formula of TODIM method has been modified in order to adapt to DPLTS situation. Then, the TODIM method is used for multi-attribute group decision making (MAGDM) problem. Finally, a case study concerning investment project selection is given to demonstrate the merits of the developed methods. This combined method can be used for the automatic areal feature matching, medical quality assessment, and ranking of matching processes. There are very few papers about using TODIM method under DPLTS situation at present, so this is a new perspective on MAGDM. The DPLTS-TODIM-CRITIC method was compared with correlation coefficient method and closeness coefficient method, and it is easy to find the advantage of this new method over the other two existing methods. This paper presents the problems of a lost identity in My Place, an Australian aboriginal autobiography by Sally Morgan. Albeit literary critics have questioned the 'indigeneity' and 'reality' concerning the narration of stolen generation, this paper situates the reading of My Place within the issue of (un)making and recuperation of sociocultural consciousness of the self. Through the lens of rememory as an exercise of recollection and rediscovery of the past, the analysis focuses on the triangulation of the themes of self, culture, and consciousness as represented in My Place. The findings indicate that rememory as illustrated in My Place, is evident in the protagonist's exploration of her personal history, her discovery of cultural/racial history, and her realisation of the double consciousness that comes with being a member of the aboriginal community. Critics of the scope problem that motivates pluralism about truth have argued that it is a pseudo-problem. If the criticism is correct, then truth pluralism is left unmotivated and potentially bankrupt. In this paper, I argue that closely related to the scope problem is another problem, which I call "the scalar problem." If the property of truth is sensitive to how an agent expresses the truth predicate within a single linguistic discourse and different agents or groups of agents express truth differently within that discourse, then there are different ways of being true within the same linguistic discourse. Given this possibility, even if the scope problem fails, truth pluralism remains fully motivated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper deals with the orbit tracking and formation motion problems with optimal energies and reduced computational cost. First, the orbit tracking and formation motion are decomposed into movements in the normal and tangent directions of level orbits, respectively, and simultaneously, the optimal value functions in both directions are defined. Then, to reduce the computational cost, a switching threshold event‐triggered (STET) mechanism is designed. Based on the STET mechanism, the optimal value functions are constructed to evaluate the optimal energies of orbit tracking and formation motion. Critic neural networks are then designed to approximate the optimal value functions, which yield the optimal policies along the normal and tangent directions of desired orbits, that is, a so‐called switching threshold event‐triggered critic algorithm (STET‐C). Theoretical analysis of system convergence is given in detail. Finally, two comparison simulations are given. The former intends to verify the optimal energy of STET‐C compared to the feedback controllers. The latter shows that STET‐C significantly reduces the computational cost in contrast with the non‐triggered actor‐critic algorithm, non‐triggered critic algorithm, and the relative threshold event‐triggered critic algorithm. Purpose. The purpose of this article is to study the relationship between Bloom’s Taxonomy and Kawyasekara. According to some, the first instance of Bloom’s Taxonomy was recorded by Benjamin Bloom in 1956, while Kawyasekara was written by Thotagamuwe Sri Rahula Thera in 1449. Methodology. Modern concepts of three hierarchical models, which differ from other types of educational concepts, did not develop until the fifteenth century, according to the critics. In this paper, it is shown how the concept we now refer to as Bloom’s Taxonomy was first presented in a similar manner in a text from the Kotte Era in Sri Lanka, written in the fifteenth century by Thotagamuwe Sri Rahula Thera. Results. This manuscript demonstrates that Thotagamuwe Sri Rahula Thera deserves praise for distinguishing educational notions from other kinds of educational conceptions. Thotagamuwe Sri Rahula Thera categories, which were much more recently discovered, are given special consideration. Conclusions. This document considering contemporary scientific findings and pedagogy exposes instructional ideas that have been around for centuries. These findings’ theoretical are also examined. The majority of real-life decision-making problems often require the analysis and evaluation of multiple factors. The nested probabilistic linguistic term set is a good tool for describing multidimensional uncertain information because it contains a collection of inner-layer and outer-layer terms and expresses both ordinal and nominal terminologies. In order to avoid losing information in the process of converting linguistic terms into numerical values, this paper proposes a series of new equivalent transformation functions for nested probabilistic linguistic term sets and defines the corresponding comparison rules. The criteria importance through inter-criteria correlation (CRITIC) method is conducted to calculate the objective weights of attributes. Using equivalent transformation functions and the weighting approach with the nested probabilistic linguistic information, this paper combines the weighted MULTIMOORA method with dominance-directed graph to solve the doctor–patient shared decision-making problem. In addition, the results of comparative analysis show that the proposed method is reasonable and effective, and it is applicable to other decision-making scenarios. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper presents the activity of Waleria Marrené-Morżkowska as that typical of women who aspired to be present in literary circles at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. She was a novelist, publicist, literary critic and women's activist who also devoted herself to translation. She translated from English, French, Italian and German, bringing to the Polish reader's market some authors who were important but not yet widely known. She published several hundred papers on literary subjects in the most important Polish periodicals. She herself attempted to create a women's magazine and to build a network of female authors around it. By presenting some facts from her biography and analysing her critical and literary works, we try to show the connection between her translations and her literary studies and the poetics she adhered to. This allows us to define Morżkowska as a a cultural transmitter who promoted foreign literatures through translations and journalism, who was characterised by her knowledge of recent European literature, her progressive mindset, her tolerance and independence of judgement, and who paid a great deal of attention to the social and cultural situation of women. This paper examines how the pre-1980 works of Saudi female novelists were received by male critics in Saudi Arabia in their critical studies. It seeks to explain why many Saudi and Arab male literary critics either ignored or decried these pioneering novels, by highlighting the essential criteria they adopted in their evaluation and criticism of such texts. The paper determines that these novels were poorly received—and unjustly so—in comparison with those written by men in the same period, male critics having subconsciously dismissed or disregarded them on the grounds that they were of limited literary quality, did not belong to what was accepted as the Saudi social and cultural environment, or did not represent the reality of Saudi women's lives. Had these core evaluative criteria been adopted in criticism of the early novels of Saudi men, many of these would also have been excluded as having no artistic value or as failing to represent Saudi social reality. The long history of the relations between science and literature reveals a constant pattern of hostility. This paper argues that there has rarely been a genuine 'conversation' and that attempts to reconcile the fields have largely been unsuccessful. The effort to assimilate science to literature is understandable and in certain respects appropriate, but their radical differences, particularly via the distinction between fact and value, are permanent conditions. This paper argues that the healthiest and most fruitful relation between science and literature is one in which literary critics sustain their work of critique, not to enter the internal workings of science but to contextualize science and set against scientific activity aesthetic and ethical criteria. Nowadays the complex international political situation has caused the shortage of coal supply in the European region. Scholars have done a lot of research on supplier evaluation. However, these studies don't reflect the variability of the indicators, such as interruption caused by recent war. Coal-electricity-integrated companies have a large demand for thermal coal and high requirements for stable supply, so they need to conduct timely and effective short-term evaluation of suppliers. This paper improves the CRITIC method and uses short-term transaction data for a coal-electricity-integrated firm to evaluate its coal suppliers. The results show that the improved CRITIC method effectively avoids the problem of weight changes caused by conflicting value ranges of indicators, and its evaluation results are more consistent with the actual situation, which can meet the requirements of large coal enterprises for evaluating suppliers. Faced with rapidly rising energy demand in industrialised societies and widespread global concern, countries are actively promoting the transition from conventional to renewable energy systems. The goal is to invest in renewable energy in the most efficient way to meet rising energy demand and reduce the challenges posed by climate change. However, decision makers must carefully weigh various factors when selecting the most appropriate renewable energy investment projects. This paper presents a novel method for Multi-Attribute Decision Making(MADM) that uses the Bipolar Complex Fuzzy(BCF) to convey the vagueness and uncertainty of decision makers, so that the result obtained better reflects the actual scenario and the subjective biases of decision makers. We defined BCF Einstein Weighted Averaging (BCFEWA) operator and BCF Einstein Ordered Weighted Averaging (BCFEOWA) operator to aggregate evaluation information. Then we discussed some properties of the proposed aggregation operators. Additionally, we present an integrated MADM technique grounded in the BCF framework that combines the CRiteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation (CRITIC) and ELECTRE III methods. Specifically, the CRITIC method determines attribute weights, and the ELECTRE III method ranking the alternatives to determine the best renewable energy investment projects. After analysing the results and comparisons, it can be inferred that the suggested methodology offers an effective evaluation process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, an event‐triggered safe control method based on adaptive critic learning (ACL) is proposed for a class of nonlinear safety‐critical systems. First, a safe cost function is constructed by adding a control barrier function (CBF) to the traditional quadratic cost function; the optimization problem with safety constraints that is difficult to deal with by classical ACL methods is solved. Subsequently, the event‐triggered scheme is introduced to reduce the amount of computation. Further, combining the properties of CBF with the ACL‐based event‐triggering mechanism, the event‐triggered safe Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman (HJB) equation is derived, and a single critic neural network (NN) framework is constructed to approximate the solution of the event‐triggered safe HJB equation. In addition, the concurrent learning method is applied to the NN learning process, so that the persistence of excitation (PE) condition is not required. The weight approximation error of the NN and the states of the system are proven to be uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB) in the safe set with the Lyapunov theory. It is commonly held that political ignorance is rational, a response to the high costs and low benefits of acquiring political information. But many recent critics of the claim that political ignorance is rational instead urge that it is a simple consequence of agents not concerning themselves with the acquisition of political information whatsoever. According to such critics, political ignorance is inadvertent radical ignorance rather than a rational response to the incentives faced by agents in democracies. And since political ignorance is not a response to incentives, these critics urge, it cannot be ameliorated by incentivizing the acquisition of political information. This paper has two goals. First, I show that these seemingly competing accounts of political ignorance are in fact complementary, together explaining much political ignorance. Indeed, there is a sense in which political ignorance can be both rational and radical at the same time. Second, I more closely examine the relationship between incentives, kinds of political ignorance, and the acquisition of political information. On the one hand, from the fact that political ignorance is rational it does not follow that it can be overcome by incentivizing the acquisition of information. On the other hand, from the fact that political ignorance is radical it does not follow that it cannot be overcome by incentivizing the acquisition of information. One reading of the Doctrine of Original Sin has it that we are guilty of a sin committed by Adam, thousands of years ago. Fission theorists account for this by saying that Adam fissioned after he sinned and that each of us is one of his 'fission successors'. This paper recaps the current discussion in the literature about this theory, arguing that the proposed version does not work for reasons already raised by Rea and Hudson. This paper investigates the poetic reality in Primer exilio by Ernestina de Champourcín, an understudied and forgotten female poet of the Generation of '27, also known as the Silver Period in 20th Century Spanish Poetry. Most of the 1927 Generation poets were exiled to Europe or Latin America during the Spanish Civil War or in its aftermath, and they were only able to return to Spain after the death of General Franco. Upon their return, they had difficulty in adjusting to their homeland. The female poets shared the journey of their male counterparts in their social struggle and experienced the same tragedies. Although their intellectual and artistic identities were known, these female poets, among whom were important thinkers, artists, writers, and translators, did not receive the due attention they deserved as their works were not included in the poetry anthologies of the period and were disregarded by literary critics, which delayed their rightful recognition and acknowledgement in Spanish literary history. By considering the social and cultural climate of its era, this paper explores the poetic realism in Primer exilio by Ernestina de Champourcín, who was born in Vitoria in 1905. After a discussion of the historical, social, and cultural circumstances of the period in which the poet lived, which was a critical moment in Spanish history, her poetic inclinations and the influences on her poetica are evaluated and the poetic realism created in her work Primer exilio is exemplified by poems translated from Spanish into Turkish. As a topic that has only very recently received attention, this paper references articles by Spanish poetry scholars and critics as well as the poet's own thoughts and poetry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Professor Bertram Schefold's recent papers on capital theory and the Cambridge critique argue that the very low likelihood of reswitching and reverse capital deepening that appears to emerge from empirical input–output tables is confirmed by theoretical results; these results, he concludes, largely rehabilitate traditional neoclassical views on capital and show that the Sraffian critics' insistence on reverse capital deepening as a fundamental criticism of neoclassical theory is misplaced. The present paper raises doubts about these arguments. In particular, Professor Schefold does not give adequate consideration to the 'supply-side' problems with the measurability and the given endowment of the traditional notion of capital as a single factor. On the empirical evidence based on input–output tables, I agree with Professor Kurz that it suffers from very serious weaknesses. The more recent argument for an extremely low likelihood of double switching, advanced in Schefold (2016 , 2018), appears criticisable too. F. R. Leavis, the leading literary critic at Cambridge from 1930 to 1960, recounts the time when his friend Ludwig Wittgenstein told him to 'give up literary criticism!' The remark came as a surprise to Leavis, and it remains somewhat puzzling to anyone who reads of the encounter, for there are few contextual clues as to why Wittgenstein would say such a thing. But there are clues in Wittgenstein's many remarks on literature, music and other art forms scattered throughout his writings. In this paper, I will present what I think Wittgenstein's concern was with the sort of literary criticism Leavis practised, contrasting it with the sort of reading, and the sort of reader, that Wittgenstein (and others) would consider a literary way of reading; the sort of reader he thought was 'a better sort of reader'.
