Aims: This scoping review was conducted to provide a comprehensive summary of how electroencephalogram (EEG) and event‐related potentials (ERPs) have been used in nursing research, with the goal of mapping the themes and methods of nursing research involving EEGs or ERPs as a measurement tool. Methods: The eligibility criteria were determined according to the Population, Concept, and Context principle. A systematic electronic search of articles in the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, CINAHL, APA PsycInfo, and Scopus databases was carried out for the period from database establishment to November 21, 2022. The included studies were analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. Results: The review process culminated in 45 articles, evidencing an increasing trend and dispersion characteristics of EEG in nursing research and reflecting five thematic domains of inquiry related to nursing. There was a deficiency of detailed reports of EEG recording and data analysis parameters in nursing research. The common EEG bands in nursing research were Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta, Gamma. The ERP components used frequently were P3, P2, N1, N2, P1, N170, and feedback‐related negativity. Conclusions: The wide variety of EEG components used show broad potential for studying nursing questions. In the future, it will be necessary to increase the depth of the research content, the repeatability of the experiment and the standardization of the report. Aims: To map the themes and methods of nursing researches involving eye‐tracking as a measurement, and offer suggestion for future nursing research using eye‐tracking. Design: We conducted a scoping review following the methodology outlined in the JBI Manual for Evidence Synthesis on scoping reviews. Methods: Eligibility criteria were established based on Population (involving nursing or nursing students), Concept (utilizing eye‐tracking as a research method), and Context (in any setting). Articles were retrieved from the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, CINAHL, APA PsycInfo, and Scopus databases, spanning from database inception to November 17, 2023. The included studies were analysed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. Results: After duplicates were removed, 815 citations were identified from searches of electronic databases and other resources, and 66 met the inclusion criteria finally. Thirty‐eight studies were conducted in a simulated environment. Five application domains were identified, and most of the studies (N = 50) were observational. The domains found in our review did not cover all topics of nursing research in the same depth. Additionally, 39 studies did not solely explicate eye‐tracking data but instead integrated behavioural measures, scales/questionnaires, or other physiological data. Conclusions: Eye‐tracking emerges as a significant research tool in uncovering visual behaviour, particularly in nursing research focused on nursing education. This study not only summarized the application and interpretation of eye‐tracking data but also recognized its potential in advancing clinical nursing research and practice. To effectively harness the capabilities of eye‐tracking in elucidating cognitive processes, future research should aim for a clearer grasp of the theoretical underpinnings of the addressed research problems and methodological choices. Aim: To explore the effects of different types of interference on nurses' working memory, and the role of attention control. Design: A repeated measures design. Methods: A single‐factor, four‐level within‐subjects design was adopted. Thirty‐one nurses completed a delay‐recognition task with four blocks in September 2020: Interrupting Stimulus (stimuli requiring attention), Distracting Stimulus (stimuli to‐be‐ignored), No Interference and Passively View. Behavioural responses of the participants and EEG data were recorded. MATLAB 21b and EEGLAB 21b were used for electroencephalogram data preprocessing and data extraction. Results: Firstly, when nursing information system was used as task material, the accuracy rate and false alarm rate of primary tasks under interruption condition was statistically significantly different with that of distraction and no interference condition. There is a statistically significant difference in electroencephalogram measurement between correct and wrong response under interruption. Secondly, the role of attention control was different under interruption and distraction. There was a statistically significant positive correlation between the average amplitude distraction attention control index and task accuracy, and statistically significant negative correlation between the latency interruption attention control index and the accuracy of working memory task. Conclusions: There were different effects of interruptions and distractions on nurses' working memory and the role of attention control were also different. Measures can be designed according to these results to reduce the negative impact of interference on nurses, so as to improve work efficiency and reduce patient risk. Impact: This study has implications for clinical nursing during human‐computer interaction. Resumption of the speed of the target information after an interruption affected task performance. Therefore, interventions should be designed to reduce the time needed for nurses to extract task information after an interruption, such as providing key clues in the information system interface. Purpose: Critically ill patients with sepsis account for significant disease morbidity and healthcare costs. Low muscle mass has been proposed as an independent risk factor for poor short-term outcomes, although its effect on long-term outcomes remains unclear. Methods: Retrospective cohort analysis of patients treated at a quaternary care medical center over 6 years (09/2014 - 12/2020). Critically ill patients meeting Sepsis-3 criteria were included, with low muscle mass defined by ≤ 5th percentile skeletal muscle index, measured at the L3 lumbar level (L3SMI) on Computed-Tomography (CT) scan (≤ 41.6 cm2/m2 for males and ≤ 32.0 cm2/m2 for females). L3SMI was calculated by normalizing the CT-measured skeletal muscle area to the square of the patient's height (in meters). Measurements were taken from abdominal/pelvic CT scan obtained within 7 days of sepsis onset. The prevalence of low muscle mass and its association with clinical outcomes, including in-hospital and one-year mortality, and post-hospitalization discharge disposition in survivors, was analyzed. Unfavorable post-hospitalization disposition was defined as discharge to a location other than the patient's home. Results: Low muscle mass was present in 34 (23%) of 150 patients, with mean skeletal muscle indices of 28.0 ± 2.9 cm2/m2 and 36.8 ± 3.3 cm2/m2 in females and males, respectively. While low muscle mass was not a significant risk factor for in-hospital mortality (hazard ratio 1.33; 95% CI 0.64 – 2.76; p = 0.437), it significantly increased one-year mortality after adjusting for age and illness severity using Cox multivariate regression (hazard ratio 1.9; 95% CI 1.1 – 3.2; p = 0.014). Unfavorable post-hospitalization discharge disposition was not associated with low muscle mass, after adjusting for age and illness severity in a single, multivariate model. Conclusion: Low muscle mass independently predicts one-year mortality but is not associated with in-hospital mortality or unfavorable hospital discharge disposition in critically ill patients with sepsis. Simple Summary: The use of diverse omics platforms and small sample sizes in current studies of cancer chemoresistance limits consensus regarding the molecular mechanisms underlying chemoresistance and the applicability of those study findings. We built transcriptome data for chemotherapy-resistant breast cancer samples for two cohorts and conducted pathway and subpathway analyses that revealed the activation of several molecular pathways associated with chemoresistance in Cushing's syndrome, human papillomavirus infection, proteoglycans in cancer, fluid shear stress, and focal adhesion that have not been reported in the resistance of breast cancer to chemotherapy. However, analysis of a subset of triple-negative breast cancer samples revealed activation of the identical chemoresistance pathways. Chemoresistance has been a major challenge in the treatment of patients with breast cancer. The diverse omics platforms and small sample sizes reported in the current studies of chemoresistance in breast cancer limit the consensus regarding the underlying molecular mechanisms of chemoresistance and the applicability of these study findings. Therefore, we built two transcriptome datasets for patients with chemotherapy-resistant breast cancers—one comprising paired transcriptome samples from 40 patients before and after chemotherapy and the second including unpaired samples from 690 patients before and 45 patients after chemotherapy. Subsequent conventional pathway analysis and new subpathway analysis using these cohorts uncovered 56 overlapping upregulated genes (false discovery rate [FDR], 0.018) and 36 downregulated genes (FDR, 0.016). Pathway analysis revealed the activation of several pathways in the chemotherapy-resistant tumors, including those of drug metabolism, MAPK, ErbB, calcium, cGMP-PKG, sphingolipid, and PI3K-Akt, as well as those activated by Cushing's syndrome, human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, and proteoglycans in cancers, and subpathway analysis identified the activation of several more, including fluid shear stress, Wnt, FoxO, ECM-receptor interaction, RAS signaling, Rap1, mTOR focal adhesion, and cellular senescence (FDR < 0.20). Among these pathways, those associated with Cushing's syndrome, HPV infection, proteoglycans in cancer, fluid shear stress, and focal adhesion have not yet been reported in breast cancer chemoresistance. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the interactions between posaconazole (POS) and intravenously/orally administered cyclosporine A (CsA) in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients. Methods: We included 118 allogeneic HSCT patients who received CsA and POS simultaneously between January 2017 and June 2020 in this study. The ratio of CsA blood concentration (ng/mL) to dosage (mg/day) (C/D) before and after POS initiation was compared. Results: After the initiation of POS, the level of CsA increased 1 to 2 times in 66% (78/118) of patients compared to those without POS. However, the CsA C/D ratio increased by more than threefold in 6% (7/118) of patients after POS initiation, with an increase of more than fourfold in two patients. The median C/D ratio of CsA increased from 0.89 to 1.23 (P < 0.001) and 0.78 to 1.22 (P < 0.001) after POS initiation when CsA was administered intravenously and orally, respectively. In patients who received POS at the time of transition from intravenous to oral CsA, the value increased from 1.01 to 1.38 (P = 0.001). The route of administration had no significant effect on the change in the CsA C/D ratio (P = 0.615). Additionally, we observed the time required for the C/D ratio to reach a plateau after POS initiation was similar on days 13, 8, and 15 under various scenarios. Conclusion: POS treatment increased blood CsA levels. A large variability was found in the fold-change in the CsA C/D ratio. Home quarantine due to the global coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a significant impact on children. Lifestyle changes have led to an increase in precocious puberty (PP) among girls, and the underlying risk factors for this remain unclear. Thus, we aimed to assess the influence of environmental, genetic, nutritional, and other lifestyle factors on the risk of PP in girls. We evaluated the incidence of new-onset PP in girls during home quarantine for COVID-19 and analyzed the potential risk factors. This was a retrospective questionnaire and medical record-based study involving 22 representative medical units from 13 cities in Henan Province, China. Girls with new-onset PP (central precocious puberty, 58; premature thelarche, 58; age, 5–9 years) between February 2020 and May 2020 were included, along with 124 healthy, age-matched controls. The number of new-onset PP cases reported during the study period was compared with that reported between February and May in 2018 and 2019. Patients' families completed a questionnaire to assess potential risk factors. There was a 5.01- and 3.14-fold increase in the number of new-onset PP cases from 2018 to 2020 and from 2019 to 2020, respectively; the differences were statistically significant (p < 0.01). High-risk factors for PP included longer time spent using electronic devices, decreased exercise time, higher body mass index, vitamin D deficiency, young age (<12 years) of mother during menarche, consumption of fried food and processed meat, residence in rural areas, and consumption of off-season fruits. Thus, we found that lifestyle changes caused due to the COVID-19 pandemic led to a significant increase in PP in girls. Objective. To explore the efficacy of risperidone orally disintegrating tablets combined with oxazepam in the treatment of schizophrenia. Methods. From May 2019 to May 2021, 60 patients with schizophrenia treated in our hospital were recruited and assigned into an observation group (risperidone orally disintegrating tablets combined with oxazepam treatment) and a control group (alprazolam combined with chlorpromazine treatment) according to the random number table method. The positive and negative symptom score (PANSS), quality of life score (QOL-75), ability of daily living score (ADL), clinical efficacy, incidence of adverse reactions, and disease recurrence were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results. The PANSS scores were similar in the two groups before treatment (P > 0.05). The two groups presented a declining trend in PANSS score after treatment, whereas a remarkable lower score in the observation group was observed (P < 0.05). The QOL scores of the two groups of patients before treatment was not significantly different (P > 0.05). Both groups witnessed improvements one month and three months after treatment, with considerable improvements being obtained in the observation group (all P < 0.05). The two groups did not differ in ADL scores before treatment (P > 0.05). At 1 month and 3 months after treatment, the ADL scores of the two groups were improved, with a higher score in the observation group (P < 0.05). The observation group had a markedly higher total effective rate as compared to the control group (X2 = 5.455, P = 0.020). Adverse reaction occurred in both groups, with milder results in the observation group. The recurrence rate of the two groups was not statistically different one month after treatment (P > 0.05), while two and three months after treatment, they were lower than those of the control group (all P < 0.05). Conclusion. Risperidone orally disintegrating tablets combined with oxazepam shows potential in the treatment of schizophrenia by relieving patients' mental symptoms, improving quality of life and activities of daily living, and minimizing the incidence of adverse reactions. Background: To investigate the analytical accuracy, safety performance, and user satisfaction (guardians of study participants) of the FreeStyle®Libre Glucose Monitoring System in the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), in children aged <4 years. Methods: Sixteen hospitalized children with new onset T1DM, aged 4 months to 4 years, were enrolled in this study. Patients wore the sensor for 14 days; sensor scans were performed immediately and at 5, 10, and 15 min after capillary blood glucose (BG) measurements to evaluate the effectiveness of the device and the lag effect. Results: The consensus error grid showed that 96.40% of values fell within zone A (no clinical impact) and 3.60% within zone B (little/no clinical impact). Overall, the mean absolute relative difference (MARD) was 9.34%, and was higher in the capillary BG <4.0 mmol/L group (15.18%) than in the 4–10 mmol/L (9.63%) and >10 mmol/L (7.17%) groups. The MARD increased gradually with scanning time extension, indicating a short lag effect. Regression analysis showed that a higher BG level was associated with a greater difference in FreeStyle®Libre System measurements. Conclusions: The use of the FreeStyle®Libre System in children aged 1–4 years is accurate and safe, and may be accurate down to 4 months, independent of patient characteristics. Objectives. To summarize the quantity and quality of evidence for using Tripterygium wilfordii Hook. f. (TwHF) preparations in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and to find the reasons of the disparity by comprehensively appraising the related systematic reviews (SRs). Methods. We performed an overview of evidence for the effectiveness and safety of TwHF preparations for patients with RA. We searched seven literature databases from inception to July 15, 2021. We included SRs of TwHF preparations in the treatment of RA. Four tools were used to evaluate the reporting quality, methodological quality, risk of bias, and the certainty of evidence for the included SRs, which are the PRISMA, the AMSTAR-2, the ROBIS, and the GRADE approach. Results. We included 27 SRs (with 385 studies and 33,888 participants) for this overview. The AMSTAR-2 showed that 19 SRs had critically low methodological quality and the remaining 8 had low methodological quality. The rate of overlaps was 68.31% (263/385), and the CCA (corrected covered area) was 0.53, which indicated the degree of overlap is slight. Based on the assessment of ROBIS, all 27 SRs were rated as low risk in phase 1; one SR was rated as low risk in domain 1, 9 SRs were in low risk in domain 2, 16 SRs were in low risk in domain 3, and 16 SRs were in low risk in domain 4 in phase 2; 7 SRs were rated as low risk in phase 3. Among 27 items of PRISMA, 15 items were reported over 70% of compliance, the reporting quality of 16 SRs was rated as "fair," and 11 were "good." Using GRADE assessment, moderate quality of evidence was found in 5 outcomes, and 5 outcomes were low quality. Conclusion. The use of TwHF preparations for the treatment of RA may be clinically effective according to the moderate-quality evidence. There are methodological issues, risk of bias, and reporting deficiencies still needed to be improved. Background: A high turnover rate has become a critical issue in the field of nursing and how to tackle the problem of nursing turnover has received increased attention worldwide. Hope, career identity, job satisfaction may be useful for reducing turnover. The aim of this study is to explore the relationships among career identity, hope, job satisfaction, and the turnover intention of nurses, and to test the mediating role of job satisfaction on the associations of hope and career identity with turnover intention. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design was used. A total of 500 nurses were recruited from five comprehensive tertiary hospitals using convenience sampling. The questionnaire included items about sociodemographic information as well as the Adult Dispositional Hope Scale, Nursing Career Identity Scale, Job Satisfaction Index Scale, and Nurse Turnover Intention Scale. Pearson's correlation, multiple linear regression, and structural equation modeling were used to analyze the data. We describe the study in accordance with the STROBE statement. Results: Hope (r = − 0.227, p < 0.001) and career identity (r = − 0.342, p < 0.001) were negatively correlated with turnover intention. Job satisfaction played a completely mediating role on the associations of hope and career identity with turnover intention (β1 = − 0.09, β2 = − 0.33). Conclusions: Job satisfaction mediated the associations of career identity and hope with turnover intention. Thus, effective measures can be taken to enhance nurses' hope and career identity in order to improve their job satisfaction and thereby reduce their turnover intention. Providing nurses with more support, helping them find a spiritual foundation, and holding mindful activities that stimulate positive emotions are helpful. Eleven undescribed 16,17-dinor-abietane diterpenoids, caseazins A-K (1 − 11), and ten known diterpenoids (12 − 21) were isolated from the twigs and leaves of Casearia kurzii (Flacourtiaceae). Caseazins A-K were the first abietane -type dinorditerpenoids to have been isolated from the plant of Casearia kurzii. Their chemical structures were elucidated using a combination of 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. The absolute configurations of 5 and 10 were established by electronic circular dichroism calculations. Moreover, compounds 2 , 3 , 13 , 14 , and 18 exhibited anti-inflammatory activity with IC 50 values of 0.17, 0.36, 6.55, 1.30, and 4.53 μM, respectively. IL-1β and caspase-1 analyses suggested that compound 14 inhibited NLRP3 inflammasome activation and blocked macrophage pyroptosis. Diterpenoids from Casearia kurzii with NLRP3 inflammasome inhibitory activity were reported in this research.
