To examine the psychometric properties of a Chinese version of the Moorong Self-Efficacy Scale (MSES-C) among stroke survivors. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with 160 stroke survivors recruited from the three neurology departments in China. Reliability, concurrent validity, and construct validity of the scale were determined. The MSES-C whole scale showed good internal consistency with a Cronbach's α of 0.953. There was a moderate to a strong positive correlation between the MSES-C and Chinese version of the General Self-Efficacy Scale (r = 0.695, p < 0.000), a strong positive correlation between the MSES-C and Chinese version of the stroke specific self-efficacy scale (r = 0.801, p < 0.000), positive correlations between the MSES-C and Chinese versions of the Modified Barthel Index (r = 0.695, p < 0.000), and a negative correlation between the MSES-C and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (r = –0.511, p < 0.000). Known-group validity was also supported. The MSES-C is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing self-efficacy in Chinese stroke survivors. The Chinese version of the Moorong Self-Efficacy Scale demonstrated good internal consistency and showed satisfactory concurrent and construct validity among stroke survivors. Objectives To explore the status of reproductive health and related factors in female patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc). Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among female patients from the Chinese Organization for Scleroderma through a questionnaire. Data on the status of reproductive health including fertility condition and menstrual status were obtained. The clinical and laboratory data of SSc were collected. For patients with pregnancies after disease onset, each pregnancy was matched with a healthy control. Associations between clinical characteristics and the status of reproductive health were analysed. Results A total of 342 female patients with SSc were included, and 31.8% (108/342, 95% CI 26.9%–36.7%) of them presented problems with reproductive health. Compared with the national data, the menopausal age of patients with disease onset before menopause was earlier (45.2 ± 6.1 vs 48.2 ± 4.4, P  < 0.001). Age of disease onset (P  = 0.018) and digital ulcer (P  = 0.020) had statistically significant effects on menopausal age. Although the infertility rate of patients was not increased, the rate of spontaneous abortions was higher compared with the national data (9/74, 12.2% vs 4.3%, P  < 0.001). Compared with the healthy control group, the rate of premature infants (12/55, 21.8% vs 7/110, 6.4%, P  = 0.003), low birth weight infants (15/55, 27.3% vs 6/110, 5.5%, P  < 0.001), and cesarean section (27/55, 49.1% vs 21/110, 19.1%, P  < 0.001) increased significantly. Conclusion The impairment of reproductive health is common and in many quarters in patients with SSc. Background: The aim of the present study was to compare the predictive accuracy of PD‐L1 immunohistochemistry (IHC), tissue or blood tumor mutation burden (tTMB, bTMB), gene expression profile (GEP), driver gene mutation, and combined biomarkers for immunotherapy response of advanced non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: In part 1, clinical trials involved with predictive biomarker exploration for immunotherapy in advanced NSCLC were included. The area under the curve (AUC) of the summary receiver operating characteristic (SROC), sensitivity, specificity, likelihood ratio and predictive value of the biomarkers were evaluated. In part 2, public datasets of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)‐treated NSCLC involved with biomarkers were curated (N = 871). Odds ratio (OR) of the positive versus negative biomarker group for objective response rate (ORR) was measured. Results: In part 1, the AUC of combined biomarkers (0.75) was higher than PD‐L1 (0.64), tTMB (0.64), bTMB (0.68), GEP (0.67), and driver gene mutation (0.51). Combined biomarkers also had higher specificity, positive likelihood ratio and positive predictive value than single biomarkers. In part 2, the OR of combined biomarkers of PD‐L1 plus TMB (PD‐L1 cutoff 1%, 0.14; cutoff 50% 0.13) was lower than that of PD‐L1 (cutoff 1%, 0.33; cutoff 50% 0.24), tTMB (0.28), bTMB (0.48), EGFR mutation (0.17) and KRAS mutation (0.47), for distinguishing ORR of patients after immunotherapy. Furthermore, positive PD‐L1, tTMB‐high, wild‐type EGFR, and positive PD‐L1 plus TMB were associated with prolonged progression‐free survival (PFS). Conclusion: Combined biomarkers have superior predictive accuracy than single biomarkers for immunotherapy response of NSCLC. Background: Regulation of redox homeostasis could reduce osteoarthritis severity and limit disease progression, while glycyrrhizin (GL) shows great antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory capacity. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the role of GL on oxidative stress and the potential regulatory mechanism in rat temporomandibular joint (TMJ) chondrocytes under oxidative stress, and investigate the effect of GL in the rat temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJOA) model. Methods: Rat TMJ chondrocytes were cultured in oxidative stress with different doses of GL. The effect of glycyrrhizin on the nuclear factor‐erythroid 2‐related factor 2 (Nrf2) in oxidative stress was evaluated by western blot and immunofluorescence staining. A rat model of TMJOA was treated with GL. Micro‐computed tomography, histological and immunohistochemical analysis were used to assess the pathological change of TMJOA. Results: The expression of superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1), heme oxygenase‐1 (HO‐1), and peroxiredoxin 6 (PRDX6) were decreased, and intracellular Nrf2 signaling pathway was activated in chondrocytes in oxidative stress. GL upregulates the expression of antioxidants, especially PRDX6, as well as increases Nrf2 expression and nuclear translocation in rat condylar chondrocytes. Administration of GL attenuates condylar bone destruction, cartilage degeneration, and synovitis in rats TMJOA. Meanwhile, GL alleviated oxidative stress and enhanced the antioxidant capacity of TMJOA cartilage. Objective: This study investigates the serial multiple mediation of job stress and perceived behavioral control (PBC) in the relationship between social support and oral health behavior (OHB). Materials and Methods: This cross‐sectional study was conducted in Minhang District, Shanghai, China, between July and November 2021. 559 Employees from 10 community health centers were recruited. A five‐part survey was used to collect data on demographic characteristics, social support, job stress, PBC and OHB. Descriptive statistics, independent‐sample t‐test, Pearson's correlation analysis, ordinary least‐squares regression and the bootstrap method were used to analyze data. Results: Social support was found to impact OHB through three significant mediation pathways: the pathway through job stress (point estimate = 0.033; 95%BC CI [0.004, 0.089]), the pathway through PBC (point estimate = 0.283; 95%BC CI [0.174, 0.416]), and the serial multiple mediating pathway through first job stress and then PBC (point estimate = 0.006; 95%BC CI [0.001, 0.019]). Conclusion: This study indicates that job stress and PBC play a serial multiple‐mediator role in the relationship between social support and OHB. To ensure the effectiveness of social support intervention on OHB, workplace managers and employees should strengthen the motivators that could promote the reduction of job stress and the improvement of PBC. Objective: To compare the diagnostic power among various machine learning algorithms utilizing multi-sequence magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) radiomics in detecting anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears. Additionally, this research aimed to create and validate the optimal diagnostic model. Methods: In this retrospective analysis, 526 patients were included, comprising 178 individuals with ACL tears and 348 with a normal ACL. Radiomics features were derived from multi-sequence MRI scans, encompassing T1-weighted imaging and proton density (PD)-weighted imaging. The process of selecting the most reliable radiomics features involved using interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) testing, t tests, and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) technique. After the feature selection process, five machine learning classifiers were created. These classifiers comprised logistic regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), K-nearest neighbors (KNN), light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM), and multilayer perceptron (MLP). A thorough performance evaluation was carried out, utilizing diverse metrics like the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC), specificity, accuracy, sensitivity positive predictive value, and negative predictive value. The classifier exhibiting the best performance was chosen. Subsequently, three models were developed: the PD model, the T1 model, and the combined model, all based on the optimal classifier. The diagnostic performance of these models was assessed by employing AUC values, calibration curves, and decision curve analysis. Results: Out of 2032 features, 48 features were selected. The SVM-based multi-sequence radiomics outperformed all others, achieving AUC values of 0.973 and 0.927, sensitivities of 0.933 and 0.857, and specificities of 0.930 and 0.829, in the training and validation cohorts, respectively. Conclusion: The multi-sequence MRI radiomics model, which is based on machine learning, exhibits exceptional performance in diagnosing ACL tears. It provides valuable insights crucial for the diagnosis and treatment of knee joint injuries, serving as an accurate and objective supplementary diagnostic tool for clinical practitioners. The effects of Easydo Activator (EA), a new sonic irrigation system, on sealer penetration at the root apex were compared to needle irrigation (NI) and passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI) in this study. Forty-two single-rooted teeth were prepared and randomly divided into three groups (n = 14): group 1: NI; group 2: PUI; and group 3: EA. A solution of 3% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) was used for irrigation. Nine teeth in each group were filled with AH Plus sealer mixed with CY5 fluorescent dye and a single gutta-percha cone. The sealer penetration area, maximum penetration depth and percentage of sealer penetration at 5 mm and 1 mm from the apex were analyzed by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). The remaining 5 teeth in each group were subjected to test smear layer scores by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The CLSM evaluation showed that increases in the area, depth and percentage of sealer penetration were detected at 1 and 5 mm from the root apex in the PUI group compared with the NI group, and greater increases were observed in the EA group (P < 0.05). The SEM experiment showed that the lowest scores for the smear layer and debris removal were achieved by the EA group when compared with the PUI and NI groups (P < 0.05). In conclusion, EA was superior to PUI and NI regarding sealer penetration at the root apex during endodontic treatment, and it could provide a new technical idea for clinical root canal therapy. Background: Under the guidance of a preliminary Live with Love Conceptual Framework, a Caring for Couples Coping with Colorectal Cancer (4Cs: CRC) programme was designed specifically for colorectal cancer couples. The objectives of this study included examining the efficacy of the programme for couples adapting to colorectal cancer and comparing the effects of different intervention delivery modes (online, face‐to‐face and blended) on couple outcomes. Methods: A four‐arm randomized controlled trial was conducted among Chinese colorectal cancer couples. Couples were randomly assigned to an online intervention, a face‐to‐face intervention, a blended intervention or a control group. Self‐efficacy, dyadic coping, communication and dyadic outcomes (physical and mental health, negative and positive emotions and marital satisfaction) were evaluated at baseline and 6 weeks later. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and repeated measures ANOVA were employed to assess between‐group differences and within‐group effects in the four groups, respectively. Results: A total of 179 couples completed the 6‐week study and post‐study assessments. The intervention showed generally medium‐to‐large effects across multiple measured outcomes, including self‐efficacy, dyadic coping, communication, mental health, negative emotions and positive emotions for both patients and spouse caregivers. Additionally, interventions delivered through different modes produced equally significant effects on couple outcomes. Conclusions: The integrated intervention programme is effective in improving cancer adaptation in colorectal cancer couples. Long‐term follow‐up and a mix of quantitative and qualitative assessments are crucial for further evaluation of the programme. Trial registration: Retroactive registration is under review. Objective: A thorough examination of the available approaches is crucial to comprehensively understand the variance among the alignment strategies employed in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). In this study, we assessed the functional outcomes during the perioperative and postoperative periods of TKA in patients using generic instruments with varus knee to compare the mechanical alignment (MA) and kinematic alignment (KA) procedures. Methods: A total of 127 patients from the First Affiliated Hospital of Wannan Medical College who had undergone unilateral TKA between November 2019 and April 2021 were included. The patients with varus knee deformity were categorized into two groups [type I (n = 64) and type IV (n = 63)] based on the modified coronal plane alignment of the knee (mCPAK) classification. The type I and IV groups were further subdivided into MA (n = 30 and n = 32) and KA subgroups (n = 34 and n = 21), respectively. The clinical information collected included sex, surgical side, age, body mass index, and perioperative data [including operation time, intraoperative blood loss, length of hospital stay, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classification]. All patients were monitored for 12 months post-surgery to evaluate the recovery of knee joint function. During this period, the Knee Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score for Joint Replacement (KOOS JR) and the active range of motion (AROM) and visual analog scale (VAS) pain scores were compared at different time points, i.e., before the operation and 6 weeks, 6 months, and 12 months post-operation. Additionally, the patients' subjective experiences were assessed at 6 and 12 months post-surgery using Forgotten Joint Score Knee (FJS-12 Knee), while complications were recorded throughout the monitoring period. Results: No significant variances were observed in ASA classification, operation duration, blood loss volume during surgery, and hospital stay length between the patients who underwent KA TKA and those who received MA TKA (P > 0.05). During the initial 6 weeks post-operation, the KA group exhibited a significantly reduced average VAS pain score (P < 0.05), with no such differences at 6 months and 1 year after the surgery (P > 0.05). Furthermore, the KA group had significantly higher scores on the KOOS JR at 6 weeks, 6 months, and 1 year following the surgery (P < 0.05). Moreover, the AROM score of the KA group significantly improved only at 6 weeks after the surgery (P < 0.05); however, no prominent differences were found at 6 months and 1 year after the operation (P > 0.05). The KA cohort also exhibited a significant increase in FJS-12 Knee at 1 year following the operation (P < 0.05), whereas no such difference was detected at 6 months following the surgery (P > 0.05). Thus, compared to the MA method, the KA procedure provided pain relief and improved active motion range within 6 weeks after the surgery in patients undergoing TKA. Further, the KOOS JR exhibited significant increases at 6 weeks, 6 months, and 1 year while the FJS-12 Knee demonstrated a significant increase at 1 year after the KA TKA procedure. Conclusion: Therefore, our study results suggest that the KA approach can be considered in patients using generic instruments with varus alignment of the knee, particularly those with mCPAK type I and IV varus knees, to help improve patient satisfaction. Background: Precise pedicle screw placement of the subaxial cervical spine is difficult. Not every hospital is equipped with a guidance system that can provide effective help. Computed tomography (CT) scanning is almost a routine preoperative examination for cervical spine surgery in all hospitals. Appropriate measurement and analysis of the CT images could assist optimal cervical pedicle screw placement. The purpose of this study is to propose a new and universal method using computed tomography (CT) morphological parameters analysis to assist optimal cervical pedicle screw placement from C3 to C7. Methods: A localization system with six parameters was designed based on preoperative CT reconstruction to guide subaxial cervical spine pedicle screw placement. The six parameters were distance from the starting point to the midline [D1], distance from the starting point to the lower edge of the inferior articular process [D2], transverse section angle [TSA], sagittal section angle [SSA], pedicle width [PW], and pedicle height [PH]. The six parameters were analyzed in 53 participants. Results: Combining D1 and D2 could localize the entrance of the pedicle screw, and we concluded that D1 and TSA and D2 and SSA could be a new standard for determination of the transverse and sagittal orientation of the pedicle screw. The six parameters were closely related to the patient's gender, height, and weight. PH and PW were linearly correlated and could guide selection of the appropriate pedicle screw. SSA was an independent parameter of the relevant vertebral body, and changes in SSA had nothing to do with the curvature or posture of the cervical spine. Conclusions: Understanding and applying the six-parameter localization system are essential for achieving accurate and optimal pedicle screw placement in subaxial cervical spine, regardless of cervical sagittal alignment. Background: In China, many ornamental plants associated with Buddhist figures, including the Sakyamuni, Bodhisattva, and Arhat, were grown and worshiped because of their cultural and religious significance. However, the systematic collation and ethnobotanical information about these culturally important plants have yet to be fully understood. Methods: Online information was collected from 93 e-commercial platforms for ornamental plants all over China. Field sampling was conducted in 16 ornamental markets and 163 Buddhist temples using key informant interviews and participatory observation with traders, tourists, and local disciples. The types, distributions, and associated characteristics of the screened plants were summarized and the evolving characteristics of these ornamental plants were analyzed. Results: A total of 60 ornamental plants, including six varieties and one subspecies, were screened, of which 43 species were associated with Sakyamuni, 13 with Bodhisattva, and four with Arhat. Among the 60 species, three were regarded as the Asoka tree related to Buddha's birth, ten as the Bodhi tree connected to Buddha's enlightenment, three as the Sal tree associated with Buddha's nirvana, nine were related to Buddha's head, belly, or hand, and 18 were connected with Buddha as lotus throne, bamboo monastery, or Bodhi beads. The evolving characteristics of these ornamental plants primarily constituted the substitution of the original plants by similar native plant species, followed by the introduced species with comparable morphology to the Buddhist figures. Conclusions: People grow ornamental plants associated with Buddhist figures to reflect their love and praise for plants and Buddha. The association between the ornamental plants and Buddhist figures will aid the inheritance of Buddhist culture and promote ornamental plants in the commercial market. Thus, the ethnobotany of ornamental plants associated with Buddhist figures can serve as a basis for future investigation of modern Buddhist culture. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Berberine is a nutraceutical that can improve lipid metabolism. Berberine may also affect sex hormones and exert sex-specific lipid-modifying effects, which have been overlooked. This study aimed to comprehensively review the efficacy and safety of berberine in adults for the treatment of dyslipidemia with consideration of potential sex disparity. Data Sources We searched Medline, Embase, Wanfang, CNKI, ClinicalTrials.gov, and the WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform from inception to 13 December 2022. No language restrictions were applied. This study was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42021293218) prior to completing the literature search. Study Selection Two blinded reviewers assessed studies for inclusion. Eligible studies were randomized controlled trials in adults that compared berberine versus placebo, and measured blood lipids or lipoproteins. Data Extraction and Synthesis Data extraction was performed by two blinded reviewers using a structured form in Covidence. Risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool for randomized trials. Mean differences (MD) were estimated using inverse variance weighting with random effects models for lipid outcomes using R. Adverse events (AEs) were described narratively. Main Outcomes Primary outcomes were low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and apolipoprotein B. Secondary outcomes were gastrointestinal and muscle-related AEs. Results: Eighteen studies (n = 1788 participants), conducted mainly in mainland China and Hong Kong (15 studies [83%]), were included with treatment durations ranging from 4 to 24 weeks. Berberine reduced LDL cholesterol (− 0.46 mmol/L, 95% CI − 0.62 to − 0.30, 14 studies, n = 1447), total cholesterol (− 0.48 mmol/L, 95% CI − 0.63 to − 0.33, 17 studies, n = 1637), triglycerides (− 0.34 mmol/L, 95% CI − 0.46 to − 0.23, 18 studies, n = 1661) and apolipoprotein B (− 0.25 g/L, 95% CI − 0.40 to − 0.11, 2 studies, n = 127). Berberine increased HDL cholesterol by 0.06 mmol/L (95% CI 0.00 to 0.11, 15 studies, n = 1471). Notably, the effect on HDL cholesterol was different in women (0.11 mmol/L, 95% CI 0.09 to 0.13) from that in men (− 0.07 mmol/L, 95% CI − 0.16 to 0.02). Among 16 studies that reported AEs, no serious AEs were reported for berberine. Gastrointestinal AEs were reported in 12 studies and tended to be more frequent in participants allocated to berberine versus placebo (2–23% vs 2–15%). Conclusions: Berberine produces small reductions in LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and apolipoprotein B, with potential sex-specific effects on HDL cholesterol. Large-scale trials that consider sex disparity and assess clinical outcomes are required. Nowadays berberine is used as a purified product and is easy to purchase as a nutraceutical supplement or non-prescription drug. People with dyslipidemia, a medical condition often known as 'high cholesterol', may prefer treatment with a nutraceutical such as berberine to reduce blood cholesterol. In recent years, many studies have contrasted the effects of taking berberine with an inactive placebo. This study aimed to combine all the available randomized controlled trials that assessed berberine's effects on blood lipids and lipoproteins. We included 18 studies that used berberine doses of 900–1500 mg/day, the majority of which were conducted in mainland China and Hong Kong. We found that on average berberine can modestly reduce low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol by 0.5 mmol/L (18 mg/dL) and triglycerides by 0.3 mmol/L (30 mg/dL). Berberine also increases high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol by 0.06 mmol/L (2 mg/dL). Interestingly, women may obtain a greater increase in HDL cholesterol than men. The short-term use of berberine appears to be safe. No study participants treated with berberine experienced a serious adverse event. However, berberine may occasionally cause constipation, diarrhea, or nausea. Larger high-quality studies are still needed to determine the long-term effects of berberine for dyslipidemia. Background: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of robot-aided percutaneous triangular osteosynthesis combined with close reduction for vertically unstable sacrum fractures (VUSFs). Methods: The data on 21 patients of the VUSF were retrospectively analyzed from November 2016 to January 2021. According to Denis classification, there were 3 cases in zone I, 11 cases in zone II, and 7 case in zone III. The main perioperative indicators were recorded. The maximal angulation and displacement deviations of the screws were analyzed by comparing the planned trajectory with the actual position. Postoperative X-ray radiographs and CT scans were obtained for evaluating the reduction quality. Functional outcome was scored with Majeed criterion. Results: Fourteen patients of the unilateral VUSF and 7 patients of the bilateral VUSF underwent unilateral and bilateral triangular osteosynthesis with robotic assistance, respectively. No intraoperative neurovascular injuries and postoperative infection occurred. All patients were followed up for at least 12 months. The average operation time of posterior pelvic ring was 111.4 min, with the mean intraoperative bleeding of 110.5 ml. A total of 58 pedicle and iliosacral screws were implanted with robotic assistance. Of those, 52 screws were in the cancellous bone except 4 pedicle and 2 iliosacral screws cutting the cortical bone. The angulation and displacement deviations of the screws were 4.2° ± 2.5° and 1.7 ± 0.9 mm, respectively. The average displacement of the sacral fracture was reduced from 19.7 mm preoperatively to 3.1 mm postoperatively. According to Matta's criterion, the reduction quality was graded as "excellent" in 13 patients and "good" in 8. All sacral fractures healed within 6 months except one fracture with nonunion. The mean Majeed score at the last follow-up was 89.6. Conclusions: Robot-aided triangular osteosynthesis combined with close reduction provide a safe and reliable option for percutaneous treatment of the fresh VUSF, with a high accuracy of iliosacral and pedicle screw implantation except insertion of iliac screws. Background: Most existing studies comparing the efficiency of sonic irrigation (SI) and conventional needle irrigation (CNI) in increasing the penetration of sealers into dentine tubules are controversial; and this study aimed to determine whether the use of SI can lead to greater sealing ability than CNI, during the root canal treatment. Methods: The EMBASE, PubMed, and Cochrane Library databases were used to find confocal laser scanning microscopy studies evaluating percentage and maximum depth of sealer penetration following the use of SI or CNI in mature permanent teeth until October 2022. The critical estimative checklist of randomized controlled trials of the standardized Joanna Briggs Institute was adopted to independently score the quality of each study. The random-effect model for meta-analysis was used to analyse for each canal segment (apical, middle, coronal). The results are shown in the forest plots as weighted mean differences (WMDs) with 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). Results: Ninety-seven articles were included in the preliminary screening, and nine of them were included in this study. Eight studies were included in the meta-analysis.The meta-analysis exhibited great increases in the coronal (WMD: 8.09, 95% CI 2.78–13.40/WMD: 165.32, 95% CI 128.85–201.80), and middle segments (WMD: 8.81, 95% CI 5.76–11.87/WMD: 132.98, 95% CI 68.71–197.25) for the percentage and maximum depth of sealer penetration, respectively. The percentage of sealer penetration in the apical thirds region was nonsignificant (WMD: 4.73, 95% CI − 2.34–11.80). However, the maximum depth of sealer penetration in the apical thirds region was significant (WMD: 121.46, 95% CI 86.55–156.38). Chi-squared analysis revealed heterogeneity scores of 0.0–70.0% and 44.0–90.0% for the percentage and maximum depth of sealer penetration, respectively. Discussion: This review verified that SI significantly improves tubular dentin sealer penetration in most areas of the root canal; thus, SI may lead to better filling efficiency and anti-reinfection effects than CNI during and after the root canal therapy. Nevertheless, a large heterogeneity in the current data comparing the irrigation efficiency of SI versus CNI in the apical third of the root canal was found, implying the necessity to standardize root canal irrigation procedures and obtain more accurate results in this area. Background: The success of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in native aortic regurgitation (AR) is limited by the absence of calcified anchoring structures. We sought to evaluate transfemoral TAVR in patients with native AR using a novel aortic root imaging classification. Methods: From March to November 2021, 81 patients with severe AR were prospectively enrolled in 2 cardiac centers in China. All were evaluated using multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) and classified into 4 anatomic types in reference to transcatheter heart valve (THV) anchoring: Type 1: anchoring at the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT), annulus, and ascending aorta (AA); Type 2: anchoring at the annulus and AA; Type 3: anchoring at the annulus and LVOT; and Type 4: anchoring at only 1 level or none at all. Based on the dual‐anchoring strategy, patients with Types 1–3 were considered TAVR candidates. Procedural and 30‐day outcomes were assessed according to Valve Academic Research Consortium‐3 definitions. Results: TAVR was performed in 32 (39.5%) patients (71.9 ± 8.0 years of age, 71.9% were male) using 2 self‐expanding THVs. Types 1, 2, and 3 comprised 13 (40.6%), 11 (34.4%), and 8 (25.0%) cases, respectively. The procedural and device success rates were 100% and 93.8%, respectively, with 2 THV migration. Eight patients (25.0%) required a permanent pacemaker, and 2 (6.3%) developed moderate paravalvular leaks. No deaths or other major complications occurred during the study. Conclusions: The novel anatomic classification and dual‐anchoring strategy were associated with a high procedural success rate with favorable short‐term safety and clinical outcomes. Objective. To investigate the current situation of self-perceived burden in patients with urostomy, analyze the correlation between self-perceived burden and quality of life, and explore the intermediary role of resilience and social support. Methods. The convenience sampling method was used to select 303 patients with urostomy of outpatient departments of the three tertiary hospitals in Yinchuan, Ningxia region, China, from April 1, 2020, to October 1, 2020, who then completed a survey questionnaire. The survey questionnaire contained a general data questionnaire and self-perceived burden scale, city of hope-quality of life-ostomy questionnaire, Connor-Davidson resilience scale, and social support rating scale. Results. Self-perceived burden was present among 89.8% patients with urostomy; the quality of life of patients with urostomy is low. The results showed that the self-perceived burden and quality of life, resilience, and social support are related in pairs; self-perceived burden was significantly negatively correlated with quality of life，resilience, and social support; there was a significant positive correlation between quality of life, resilience, and social support; resilience and social support were parallel mediators. Conclusions. Patients with urostomy had a heavy self-perceived burden and low quality of life. Reducing the self-perceived burden of patients with urostomy by improving the level of resilience and social support, could raise the level of quality of life. This study could provide empirical basis for nurses to take continuous nursing intervention measures in order to reduce the self-perceived burden of patients with urostomy and ultimately to improve the quality of life. Background: The Oral Health-related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) is a multi-dimensional concept commonly used to examine the impact of health status on quality of life, and the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14) questionnaire is a good self-assessment tool. This study was designed to investigate the factor structure of the OHIP-14 scale Chinese version, measurement invariance and latent mean differences across genders among college students. Methods: The online survey was completed by 919 college students. This study used confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to check the structural models of the OHIP-14 scale, The correlation of each item with the scale total score could test homogeneity, and Cronbach's alpha (Cronbach's α) could evaluate internal consistency. Multi-group CFA was used to explore whether the Chinese version of the OHIP-14 scale was used in male and female populations for measurement consistency. T-test compared scores between men and women. Regression analyses were used to evaluate the relationship between age, gender, education, subject, and the score on the OHIP-14 scale. Results: We found that the 7-factor structure had the best fit index in the sample. According to Cronbach's α, the overall score of OHIP was 0.958, and Cronbach's α for 7 factors was: functional limitation was 0.800, physical pain was 0.854, psychological discomfort was 0.902, physical disability was 0.850, psychological disability was 0.768, social disability was 0.862, social handicap was 0.819 and the test–retest reliability interval was 0.723. Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis supported residual measurement invariance across gender. T-test for scores showed that females scored higher significantly than men as did the overall score, in terms of physical pain (p<0.001), physical disability (p<0.001), and psychological disability (p<0.001). Jian-Gan-Xiao-Zhi decoction (JGXZ) has demonstrated beneficial effects on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, the mechanisms by which JGXZ improve NAFLD are still unclear. Methods. In this study, we first used a high-fat diet (HFD) to establish a NAFLD rat model to clarify the therapeutic effect of JGXZ on NAFLD. Secondly, we used network pharmacology to predict the potential targets of JGXZ on NAFLD, and then the key targets obtained from network pharmacology were verified. Finally, we used untargeted metabolomics to study the metabolic regulatory mechanism of JGXZ. Results. JGXZ treatment could decrease body weight and ameliorate dyslipidemia in NAFLD model rats. H&E and oil red O staining indicated that JGXZ reduced steatosis and infiltration of inflammatory cells in the liver. In addition, network pharmacology research found that the potential targets of JGXZ on NAFLD pathway were mainly associated with improving oxidative stress, apoptosis, inflammation, lipid metabolism disorders, and insulin resistance. Further experimental verification confirmed that JGXZ could inhibit inflammation and improve oxidative stress, insulin resistance, and lipid metabolism disorders. Serum untargeted metabolomics analyses indicated that the JGXZ in the treatment of NAFLD may work through the linoleic acid metabolism, alpha-linolenic acid metabolism, tryptophan metabolism, and glycerophospholipid metabolism pathways. Conclusions. In conclusion, this study found that JGXZ has an ameliorative effect on NAFLD, and JGXZ alleviates the inflammatory response and oxidative stress and lipid metabolism disorders in NAFLD rats. Aims Exercise promotes functional recovery among stroke survivors and is recommended to be commenced as soon as is feasible. However, little is known about stroke survivors' perception of participation in exercise or sitting Tai Chi, a more culturally appropriate and popular movement in China. To explore Chinese stroke survivors' perceptions of participation in exercise or sitting Tai Chi. Methods and results Face-to-face semi-structured interviews and content analysis of transcripts were conducted with a purposive sample of 30 stroke survivors. The qualitative study explored perceptions of post-stroke participation in exercise or sitting Tai Chi. The consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research checklist was used to report findings. Perceived facilitators of exercise participation were healthcare professionals' encouragement and recommendations, family and peer support and survivors' motivation, intention, and self-perceived benefits. Perceived barriers were fear of falling, physical discomfort, and challenges in standing. Despite some reservations, most participants were willing to try sitting Tai Chi. Conclusions Encouragement and support, motivation, and perceived benefits were important for exercise participation after stroke. With the premise that all medical and nursing students in China are trained in Tai Chi, for stroke survivors with no access to formal exercise programmes, sitting Tai Chi may offer an appropriate alternative. The prognostic significance of d -dimer level in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) is not fully established. This meta-analysis aimed to examine the association between elevated d -dimer level at baseline and adverse outcomes in patients with CAD. Two independent authors comprehensively searched PubMed and Embase databases from their inception to December 31, 2020. All observational studies reporting the values of baseline d -dimer level in predicting the major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) or survival outcomes in patients with CAD were included. The prognostic values were calculated by pooling adjusted RR with 95% CI for the highest versus the lowest d -dimer level. Thirteen studies consisting of 25 600 patients with CAD were identified. Comparison between the highest and lowest d -dimer level showed that the pooled multivariable adjusted RR was 1.69 (95% CI, 1.53-1.86) for all-cause mortality, 2.37 (95% CI, 1.52-3.69) for cardiovascular mortality, and 1.44 (95% CI, 1.19-1.74) for MACEs, respectively. Elevated blood level of d -dimer at baseline was independently associated with higher risk of MACEs, cardiovascular death, and all-cause mortality in patients with CAD. Background. To observe the clinical effect of Pinggan Yiqi Yangshen recipe combined with labetalol hydrochloride and magnesium sulfate in the treatment of pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH). Methods. A total of 126 patients with PIH diagnosed in our hospital from January 2016 to May 2018 were randomly divided into the control group and the experimental group, with 63 cases in each group. The control group was treated with labetalol combined with magnesium sulfate. On the basis of the control group, the experimental group was treated with Pinggan Yiqi Yangshen recipe. Clinical efficacy, blood pressure, renal function, and biochemical indexes were compared between the two groups. Moreover, pregnancy outcomes and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results. After treatment, the total effective rate in the experimental group was higher than in the control group. Blood pressure and mean arterial pressure in the experimental group were more significantly downregulated than the control group. Renal function indexes and biochemical indexes in the experimental group were more significant than those in the control group. The incidence of cesarean section, preterm birth, and abnormal fetal heart rate in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group. There was no difference in the incidence of fetal distress, postpartum hemorrhage, neonatal asphyxia, and adverse reactions between the two groups. Conclusion. Pinggan Yiqi Yangshen recipe combined with labetalol hydrochloride and magnesium sulfate can effectively reduce the blood pressure of patients with PIH, help patients to return to normal levels of biochemical indexes and renal function indexes, and improve pregnancy outcomes with high safety, which is worthy of further promotion and application in clinical practice. Background. Ovarian cancer (OC) is the top of the aggressive malignancies in females with a poor survival rate. However, the roles of immune-related pseudogenes (irPseus) in the immune infiltration of OC and the impact on overall survival (OS) have not been adequately studied. Therefore, this study aims to identify a novel model constructed by irPseus to predict OS in OC and to determine its significance in immunotherapy and chemotherapy. Methods. In this study, with the use of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) combined with Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx), 55 differentially expressed irPseus (DEirPseus) were identified. Then, we constructed 10 irPseus pairs with the help of univariate, Lasso, and multivariate Cox regression analysis. The prognostic performance of the model was determined and measured by the Kaplan–Meier curve, a time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Results. After dividing OC subjects into high- and low-risk subgroups via the cut-off point, it was revealed that subjects in the high-risk group had a shorter OS. The multivariate Cox regression performed between the model and multiple clinicopathological variables revealed that the model could effectively and independently predict the prognosis of OC. The prognostic model characterized infiltration by various kinds of immune cells and demonstrated the immunotherapy response of subjects with cytotoxic lymphocyte antigen 4 (CTLA4), anti-programmed death-1 (PD-1), and anti-PD-ligand 1 (PD-L1) therapy. A high risk score was related to a higher inhibitory concentration (IC50) for etoposide (P = 0.0099) and mitomycin C (P = 0.0013). Conclusion. It was the first study to identify a novel signature developed by DEirPseus pairs and verify the role in predicting OS, immune infiltrates, immunotherapy, and chemosensitivity. Background: Plantar heel pain syndrome (PHPS), also known as plantar fasciitis, affects millions of people worldwide. Electroacupuncture (EA) and manual acupuncture (MA) are the two acupuncture modalities frequently used for PHPS in the clinical setting. However, which modality is more effective has yet to be determined. Objective: To examine whether EA is more effective than MA with regards to pain relief for patients with PHPS. Methods: Participants were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive 12 treatment sessions of EA or MA over 4 weeks with 24 weeks of follow-up. The primary outcome was the proportion of treatment responders, defined as patients with at least a 50% reduction from baseline in the worst pain intensity experienced during the first steps in the morning after a 4-week treatment, measured using a visual analogue scale (VAS, 0–100; higher scores signify worse pain). Analysis was by intention-to-treat. Results: Ninety-two patients with a clinical diagnosis of PHPS were enrolled from 29 July 2018 through 28 June 2019. Of the patients, 78 (85%) completed the treatment and follow-up. The primary outcome occurred in 54.8% (23/42) of the EA group compared to 50.0% (21/42) of the MA group after the 4-week treatment (difference –4.76, 95% confidence interval, –26.10 to 16.57, P = 0.662). There were no significant between-group differences for any secondary outcomes after 4 weeks of treatment and at 16 weeks and 28 weeks of follow-up. There were no serious treatment-related adverse events in either group. Conclusion: Among patients with PHPS, EA did not have a better effect with respect to relieving pain intensity than MA at week 4, although both EA and MA appeared to have positive temporal effects, with decreased heel pain and improved plantar function. Carex baccans , known as Shan-Bai-Zi or Ye-Gao-Liang in China, is a traditional medicinal herb used by several ethnic groups in Yunnan Province. It is utilized for the treatment of wound infections, ulcers, and dysentery. However, there is currently a dearth of research reports on its antimicrobial potential. The substance basis of the antimicrobial activity of C. baccans will be unveiled, and the in vitro and in vivo antibacterial activities against multidrug-resistant bacteria of its major active compounds, as well as their preliminary mechanisms of action, will be investigated. An antibacterial bioactivity-guided isolation method was used to isolate and identify the active compound curcusinol from C. baccans. UPLC-DAD-MS was employed for the quantitative analysis of curcusinol. The antibacterial activity, resistance profile, synergistic effects, anti-biofilm activity, and potential mechanisms of action of curcusinol against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE), and other multidrug-resistant bacteria (Escherichia coli , Pseudomonas aeruginosa , Acinetobacter baumannii) were investigated using various methods, including the broth microdilution method, scanning electron microscopy, time kill assay, multi-generational resistance induction assay, checkerboard synergy assay, anti-biofilm assay, and metabolomics. Furthermore, the therapeutic efficacy of curcusinol was assessed in vivo by establishing an animal skin wound infection model of MRSA. Curcusinol was isolated from the fruit of C. baccans , which accounts for 3.1% of the dry weight of the fruit. Curcusinol exhibited significant bactericidal and anti-biofilm activities against antibiotic-resistant Gram-positive bacteria in vitro. Furthermore, curcusinol acted as an antibiotic adjuvant to enhance the activity of various commonly used antibiotics against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative antibiotic-resistant bacteria without cytotoxicity to mammalian cells (A549 and RAW264.7) at 64 μM. Moreover, curcusinol affected arginine biosynthesis, cysteine and methionine metabolism, and alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolism significantly in MRSA cells under stress. Additionally, curcusinol effectively treated MRSA-infected mouse skin wounds and accelerated wound healing in vivo. The results of this study not only support the traditional uses of C. baccans but also demonstrate that its major active compound, curcusinol, is an effective plant-derived bactericidal agent and antibacterial adjuvant with potential applications in the treatment of skin infections. Vitamin B12 is essential to human but the implications of serum vitamin B12 level for mortality in clinical practice remain unclear. We conducted a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis to quantify the relationship between vitamin B12 levels and the risk of all-cause, cardiovascular, and cancer mortality. Electronic databases of PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched from inception through May 2023. Two reviewers independently extracted individual study data and evaluated the risk of bias among the studies using the Newcastle‒Ottawa Scale. To examine a potential nonlinear relationship between the vitamin B12 levels and all-cause mortality, we performed a two-stage random effects dose‒response meta-analysis. Twenty-two cohort studies (92,346 individuals with 10,704 all-cause deaths) were included. A linear trend dose-response analysis showed that each 100 pmol/L increase in serum vitamin B12 concentration was associated with a 4 % higher risk of all-cause mortality in the general population (adjusted HR 1.04, 95 % confidence interval CI 1.01 to 1.08; n = 8; P non-linearity = 0.11) and a 6 % higher risk for all-cause mortality in older adults (adjusted HR 1.06, 95 % CI 1.01 to 1.13; n = 4; P non-linearity = 0.78). Current evidence was mixed for the association between serum vitamin B12 concentration and cardiovascular mortality and was limited for cancer mortality. The meta-analysis of cohort studies showed a positive association between a high serum vitamin B12 concentration (>600 pmol/L) and all-cause mortality (adjusted HR 1.50, 95 % CI 1.29 to 1.74; n = 10; p < 0.01), CVD mortality (adjusted HR 2.04, 95 % CI 0.99 to 4.19; n = 2; p = 0.02), except cancer mortality (adjusted HR 1.56, 95 % CI 0.82 to 2.95; n = 3). Similarly, serum vitamin B12 concentrations (400–600 pmol/L) were associated with increased all-cause mortality (adjusted HR 1.34, 95 % CI 1.10 to 1.64; n = 9; p < 0.01). Serum vitamin B12 concentration was positively associated with the risk of all-cause mortality, especially among older adults, with a linear increasing trend. To determine the impact of depressive symptoms on health service use and catastrophic health expenditure, and whether it varied by per-capita household consumption, health insurance schemes, and physical comorbidities. Population-based panel data analysis. Participants were 8585 adults aged 45 years and older in 2011, and had completed a follow-up survey in 2013, 2015, and 2018 from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). Depressive symptoms were assessed using the short form of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale. The number of outpatient visits and inpatient hospital days were used as proxies for health service use. When households' out-of-pocket spending on health was 40% or above its total expenditure, it was defined as a catastrophic health expenditure. With the panel data approach, random-effects negative binomial regression and logistic regression were used to analyze the effect of depressive symptoms on health service use and health care expenditure, respectively. Depressive symptoms were associated with increased number of outpatient visits (incidence rate ratio 1.52; 95% CI 1.44–1.60) and days spent in the hospital as an inpatient (1.52; 1.43–1.62). Depressive symptoms were also associated with a significantly increased likelihood of catastrophic health expenditure (odds ratio 1.54; 95% CI 1.43–1.66). Their effect on outpatient visits, inpatient hospital days, and catastrophic health expenditure persisted in different age, per-capita household consumption, and physical comorbidities groups, and across all health insurance programs. Depressive symptoms were risk indicators that can drive health service use and household financial stress. The rhizome of Chinese medical plant QingTeng (scientific name: Sinomenium acutum (Thunb.) Rehd. et Wils.) is widely used by traditional medical doctors for anti-inflammation and immunoregulatory in China and other Asian countries. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects and possible mechanisms of sinomenine resistance against DSS-induced inflammation in vitro and in vivo. The UC model was induced by treating female mice with 3% DSS in vivo and human colonic epithelial cells (Hcoepic) with 0.8 mg/ml DSS in vitro. The mice and Hcoepic were then treated with sinomenine. Inflammatory factors were detected using ELISA and qRT-PCR. Nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) p65 and 14-3-3θ were analyzed by bioinformatic analysis and verified by western blotting, immunofluorescent staining or immunohistochemistry. DSS-induced Hcoepic underwent high inflammation and oxidative stress conditions, whereas sinomenine reduced the uncontrolled immune microenvironment by suppressing NF-κB signaling and targeting 14-3-3θ. Knockdown of 14-3-3θ decreased the protective effect of sinomenine against DSS-induced inflammation in vitro. Moreover, sinomenine promoted 14-3-3θ protein expression and inhibited NF-κB p65 signaling in DSS-induced mice. Misplacement of the nasogastric tube in the respiratory tract could cause serious complications and even death. Thus, nasogastric tube verification is necessary for optimal patient safety and comfort. Although end-tidal carbon dioxide detection is considered an effective approach to determine nasogastric tube location, there is a paucity of up-to-date evidence. To review the diagnostic accuracy of end-tidal carbon dioxide detection in determining inadvertent airway intubation and verifying correct placement of nasogastric tubes. A systematic review and meta-analysis. We searched clinical trials that evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of colorimetric capnometry or capnography in detecting nasogastric tubes located in the airway and differentiating between inadvertent airway intubation and correct nasogastric tube placement in any adult care setting. Four English language databases - Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CINAHL - and four Chinese language databases - China Biomedical Literature Database, WanFang Data, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Airiti Library - were searched from July 2009 to March 2021. Clinical trial registration databases and reference lists of included studies and relevant reviews were also searched. Two reviewers extracted the data of all included studies using a data extraction form. Two reviewers assessed the methodological quality independently with the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2 tool. We conducted meta-analysis using the hierarchical bivariate model and estimated the pool sensitivity and specificity of capnography and colorimetric capnometry. The certainty of evidence was evaluated with the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluations framework. Of 1,155 records identified, seven new studies were added to this update and a total of 16 studies were analysed in the systematic review. The total absolute number of true positive, false negative, true negative, and false positive observations were 142, 6, 1,500, and 65 respectively. Low to very low certainty of evidence indicated that the use of colorimetric capnometry or capnography is potentially an effective method in differentiating between respiratory and nasogastric tube placement for critically ill adult patients. Pooled results (13 studies, 1,541 intubations) for sensitivity and specificity were 0.96 (95% confidence interval [0.88, 0.99]) and 0.99 (95% confidence interval [0.96, 1.00]), respectively. Colorimetric capnometry and capnography may have the potential to be of high sensitivity and specificity for the detection of inadvertent airway nasogastric tube placements in critically ill adults. More evidence is required to generalize the updated findings to different types of patients and settings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
