NEOCOLONIALISM , *TEXTILE industry , *SUSTAINABLE development , *MINERAL industries , *SUSTAINABLE communities - Abstract
China's progressive assumption as a major actor on the African scene needs critical academic attention and examination. Although there are undoubtedly varied benefits, there are also concerns about whether China's win-win rhetoric is sincere or just empty propaganda. This paper contributes to the debate by examining the relationship between China and Africa through the lens of neo-colonialism. In this regard, the paper examines China's involvement in the textiles and mining industries of Ghana as a case study to argue whether the partnership between China and Africa is one that actually promotes development or engenders a new trend of neo-colonialism. Since this research focuses on areas such as partnership (i.e., between Ghana and China) and illegal mining with its effects, it intersects four of the SDGs (clean water and sanitation [SDG 6]; sustainable cities and communities [SDG 11]; life below water [SDG 14]; and partnership for the goals [SDG 17]. COVID-19 pandemic , *MIND & body - Abstract
This paper explores responses to COVID-19 by the Buddhist organisation Soka Gakkai in Japan. Sōka means 'value-creation', but what kind of 'value' was created amidst a global pandemic? So-called 'new religions' in the context of Japan are typically presumed to embody a 'flight from the human world' into the exotic and remote. SG's response, however, encouraged people to stay very much within a 'human-bound world'. How did SG differ compared to other popular responses in Japan that drew on yōkai (or 'spirits') for comfort in defeating the soon objectified virus 'monster'? SG may be well-built for responding to disaster in its extensive grassroots networks and its daily newspaper to provide information. Responding with a renewed focus on study, chanting and outreach also highlights, however, how the meaning of 'hope' and 'well-being' were generated by internal change while structurally working to realise the SDG s as part of more long-term solutions. This working paper examines the historical role of business interests in shaping structures for global environmental governance. Drawing on extensive historical evidence from the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and other archives, the paper demonstrates that international business associations, in particular the ICC were instrumental to the transformation of international environmental governancebetween the UN Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm in 1972 and Earth Summit in Rio in 1992. The ICC, which was sidelined in the debates on the environment in Stockholm in 1972, gradually managed to establish itself as a key partner for the United Nations and to introduce a liberal environmental vision that emphasized economic growth, market forces, free trade, and business self-regulation as a source of environmental governance. While environmental debate at the time for the Stockholm conference in 1972 was centered around the notion of Limits to Growth we find that the ICC actively contributed to the definition of the concept sustainable development. This paper not only helps to explain the role of business in constructing the concept of sustainable development but also why the concept became so widely accepted in the world business community. The problem was that this conception of sustainable development allowed for the incremental greening of corporations, which did not reflect the real need for measures to prevent the ongoing environmental crisis from worsening, including climate change.

International audience; Traditional paper making in the village of Kurotani in the mountains north of Kyoto has been the subject of research and interviews for the past fifteen years by Y. Yonehara and, when one of us (F. Joulian) proposed an anthropographic investigation of Waza in Japan, this field seemed ideal to explore this new approach involving an artist, a designer, an anthropologist and a mangaka in the same field.was to explore, according to distinct experiences and disciplinary points of view, different types of recording techniques: notes and sound recordings, photos, videos, and drawings, in order to describe the original art of these artisans, their Waza, which is captured in the very place where the craft is practiced and in its current conditions and constraints. The article we have written is articulated with other productions (videos, photos and a drawn catalog in addition to an exhibition) that complement it using different media. It explores these particular skills from the point of view of their patrimonialization (they are classified as intangible heritage) and the positive or negative effects that this can have on the sustainability of the skills of the activity, but also in the articulation of this profession with the different sectors and other professions that it conditions and that condition it and on which we have also investigated (printing, fusuma, karakami, lanterns…). Two examples allow us to grasp the life of paper, from the tree to the object, and, through different trades, to question the articulation of different knowledge, their kinship, their segmentation or their continuity, but also to question ourselves on the material itself worked and how it brings with it, gestures, requirements and common commitments. The dialogue with this particular material, which transforms itself as it is worked, comes from the pulp of mulberry (kozo) and water, via simple instruments (cauldrons, sinks, frames, dryers) but also from subtle processual and gestural recipes. Does this dialogue with the material engage the artisans in the same bath of values, demands, and pleasures of making, conducive to the maintenance of Waza, or conversely, to circumscribing and weakening it?ill the cultural recognition and the national and international demands for this type of paper ensure the sustainability of the processes? Are the instruments or associated technical systems (steel knives, the natural glue of tororo aoi roots, the mutualization of regional knowledge by the union…), sufficiently stable and robust to keep the activity attractive for the younger generations? The Waza of washi artisans is of course also affected by these external factors, which are difficult to photograph or draw, and our “anthropographic” exploration, beyond the challenge of capturing the craft and the original gestures of the artisans, is also to express the different analytical and narrative virtues of the text, the image or the drawing, and to sketch out a true “multimedia” and scientific proposal, from the recording in the field to its public dissemination.; La fabrication traditionnelle de papier dans le village de Kurotani dans les montagnes au nord de Kyoto a fait l’objet de recherches et d’entretiens depuis une quinzaine d’années par Y. Yonehara et, lorsque l’un d’entre nous (F. Joulian) a proposé une enquête anthropographique sur le waza au Japon, ce terrain a semblé idéal pour explorer cette nouvelle démarche impliquant sur un même terrain, une artiste, un designer, un anthropologue et un mangaka.

English Abstract: Coherence for Sustainable Development (PCSD) has promoted sustainability through policy coordination, but to what extent does it respond to the needs of local communities? Scholars of PCSD have acknowledged how it has been considered as an end in itself rather than a means to achieve normative impact. A major limit of PCSD has been its institutionalized nature, as mechanisms for social participation have not been highlighted in implementation strategies. This article addresses this issue. It proposes "pull-push-match" as a methodology for the establishment of participative PCSD. The article, co-authored by a team of researchers and practitioners from Mexico, addresses PCSD in relation to Indigenous communities. Drawing on data from an enquiry on children visiting museums, this article suggests that childhood representations contribute to the identification of cultural heritage. More broadly, it considers heritage as a political tool of western cosmology. Comparing children under 7 years of age visiting museums – La Fabuloserie, a private museum in the French countryside devoted to Art Brut, and the royal Versailles palace – this paper observes conditions of children’s access to high culture and the way it is internalised by adults. Parents who expect their children to gain cultural knowledge, teachers who organize school visits, and culture professionals guiding them through a museum, thus allow us to discern specific forms of public outreach that reveal how childhood deals with mechanisms of producing cultural value.

International audience; This paper uses a series of serious games - a form of participatory modelling designed and played in Kandal, Cambodia -as an entry point for reexamining relations between development projects, participatory formats, landscape transformations, and sustainable futures. Critics of development and participation have shown that participatory formats simplify real-world complexities by rendering them technical. This is also the case for serious games. But contrary to what is often assumed, 'depoliticization' is not the unavoidable outcome. Instead, participatory outcomes depend on specific sociotechnical patterns of more or less generous constraints. To support collective exploration requires tinkering with these patterns of constraints to keep the boundaries between virtual and real worlds, insiders and outsiders, and the present and future relatively permeable. Generous constraints and permeable boundaries do not keep power out of participation but facilitate glimpses of different possibilities. In Kandal, they made it possible to shift from narrow technical discussions on the rehabilitation of specific preks (water channels) towards a collective exploration of sustainable futures for the full mosaic landscape. In general, we argue, serious games hold potentials as experimental systems, which are serious to the extent that they work like technologies of humility. In this capacity, they can support efforts to do difference together, and explore more-than-human worlds and divergent practical ontologies. Learning from this multiplicity matters for moving towards sustainable forms of living in Kandal and elsewhere.

The development, whether economic, social or environmental, of our country depends on its capacity to create and develop innovative products and services. The creation of green activity and the creation of green companies and start-ups are thus fully involved in this process. For this reason, higher education institutions have invested in this new dynamic of green entrepreneurial culture, in particular through the support and monitoring of innovative green projects. Of course, entrepreneurship is a process that requires certain skills and attitudes, which can only be acquired through well adapted teaching and training programmes. Such programmes would eventually foster the emergence of business ideas or opportunities, and ultimately the creation of a business. Like most disciplines that belong to the management and social sciences. Green entrepreneurship can even be the subject of academic teaching in Morocco. The main question of our research is: What is the role that the Moroccan university can play in promoting green entrepreneurship in Morocco? Our research aims to provide some answers to this question. In order to define it closely, we will take a practical case, namely the Sultan Moulay Slimane University of Béni-Mellal, with the aim of drawing certain conclusions and recommendations. Indeed, to answer our problematic we intend to adopt a mixed research approach in a perspective where we can associate the qualitative (semi-directive interviews) with the quantitative (questionnaire) through triangulation. It should be noted that despite the richness of the theoretical field with regard to the availability of information on entrepreneurship, the treatment of "green entrepreneurship" remains limited or non-existent. This is the main reason why we will discuss the role of the university in promoting green entrepreneurship in a broad sense. In the empirical part, we will try to see if the Sultan Moulay Slimane University is able to sensitize its students to become eco-entrepreneurs. From the analysed results of our quantitative study, we can say that students consider green entrepreneurship to be very important. However it is the gain that remains their major concern in relation to autonomy and self-realisation. Among their suggestions, they propose the setting up of training courses and seminars so that they can familiarise themselves with this new concept. As for the result of the qualitative study, we can say that Sultan Moulay Slimane University needs to review its pedagogical practices, to introduce a module on green entrepreneurship, to encourage students to present green projects and to give importance to eco-responsible skills and competences. International audience; This paper explores the role of the manager in the sustainable development (SD) certification decision in wine firms. A theoretical analysis, based on a literature review and a stakeholder approach, provides a conceptual framework for estimating the probability of adopting a SD certification. The logistical regressions show that SD certification adoption first relies on the managers’ convictions and their personal involvement in SD.; Cet article analyse le rôle de l’engagement des managers pour l’adoption de certifications environnementales et durables dans la filière vitivinicole.

To understand the contribution of ecotourism to the achievement of sustainable development, it is necessary to understand its origin, its evolution and itsprinciples (Tardif, 2003).The interest of this confirmatory study lies in the analysis of the perception that consumers have of the two concepts, ecotourism and sustainable development, in order to analyze their profiling, their determination and the constraints that prevent them from travelling in an ecotourism context. On the theoretical level, our paper provides a presentation of all the empirical works that mark out the literature in the framework of analysis of the perception of ecotourism and sustainable development by tourists, on the methodological level, we conducted our study through a questionnaire administered to examine the perception of consumers, it is a representative sample of 200 consumers who have travelled at least once a year.Based on the results of the empirical study, consumers show a favorable behavior towards responsible travel and perceive ecotourism as an economic, social and environmental panacea., Pour bien comprendre la contribution de l'écotourisme à la réalisation du développement durable, encore faut-il comprendre son origine, son évolution et ses principes (Tardif, 2003).

Food supply chains (FSCs) not only need to be competitive, but increasingly face scarce resources and societal pressure for sustainable development. This paper assesses the economic, social, and environmental sustainability of five different FSCs that are all competing for the same primary product. We used the value chain methodology for the economic sustainability, life cycle assessment for the analysis of environmental sustainability, and a scoring approach for social sustainability. We applied these methodologies to five FSCs competing for mangoes in Burkina Faso: 1) the FSC of fresh mangoes exported (by boat or by plane) to the European Union, 2) the FSC of fresh mangoes exported to continental Africa, 3) the FSC of dried mangoes exported to Europe, 4) the FSC of mango juice and puree, and 5), the FSC of fresh mangoes consumed in Burkina Faso. For each FSC, we considered: 1) the added value per kilogramme; 2) male and female employment; 3) the contribution to the national economy; 4) working conditions; 5) the contribution to household food and nutritional security; 6) damage to human health per added value, 7) damage to ecosystems per added value, and 8) increased resource scarcity per added value. None of the FSCs obtained a perfect score. The domestic FSC had the best sustainability indicators and the African FSC distributed the highest share of added value to farmers. The number of middlemen, the operating costs, the trade value of the mangoes, and bargaining power, are the main factors affecting the distribution of the added value. The informal sector is a major factor that affects the social assessment through access to land and to most social rights. Distance and transport technology are the main factors that affect the environmental sustainability. Our results will help improve benchmarking of FSCs in a sustainability framework, targeting of private funding investment, and policy support for sustainable development.

International audience; In an industrial symbiosis initiative (IS-I), an initiating actor faced with a situation aims to enroll other actors in a collective action, or response, to address the situation. The rational myth theory embeds this “situation-response” pair. This paper explores the relevance of rational myth, along with that of plausible promise, to understand the emergence and development of IS-Is. We adapt the definition of these two concepts to IS and illustrate how they take shape with real case studies, by conducting the qualitative analysis of 14 French IS-Is. We demonstrate the potential of this framework to shed new light on IS-Is, and address a new range of questions for the dynamic analysis of initiatives. This paves the way to study the role of plausible promises in the initiation and development of IS-Is, and the design of discourses that enhance initiatives in situations of high potential of synergy.
