A common theme in the literature on learning technologies is the way in which they can facilitate engagement both within and outside of the classroom. However, a lack of a scholarly consensus on what constitutes engagement renders problematic the issue of how one makes meaningful sense of the data presented in studies. This paper presents an integrative review that explores student engagement with learning technologies and identifies major themes and trends within the field. When viewed against the evidence-based claims of individual studies, common ubiquitous narratives concerning learning technologies are problematised. Teacher enthusiasm is receiving remarkable scholarly attention in L2 education, and its effect on students' language learning outcomes has been extensively investigated. Nevertheless, exploring the antecedents of language teacher enthusiasm has received scant attention in foreign language education, particularly within the Chinese context. Thus, informed by the principles of positive psychology, the present study investigated the extent to which English as a foreign (EFL) teachers' enthusiasm can be predicted by their work engagement and foreign language teaching enjoyment (FLTE) in the context of China. The study involved three online questionnaires completed by 576 EFL teachers in China. The results of structural equation modeling revealed that teacher work engagement and FLTE were strong predictors of Chinese EFL teachers' enthusiasm. In addition, EFL teachers' FLTE was a better predictor of their enthusiasm than their work engagement. This article considers Tyehimba Jess's representation of the lives of several historical African American musicians from the post-emancipation period in his 2016 collection Olio. Reading Olio in the context of African American musical traditions, it considers how Jess's syncopated sonnet forms appropriate and contest historical instances of white supremacy to undermine the dehumanizing logics of plantocracy. At the same time, it explores how the collection's threedimensional forms materialize feelings of constraint to reveal the embeddedness of antiblackness in American popular culture, and the fragility of liberty into the twentieth century and beyond. While Olio reifies the tension between freedom and bondage in the post-bellum nation, this paper argues that Jess's archival recuperation of elided historical figures and innovative configuration of sonnet form demonstrate an ethos of creativity, as it envisions alternative forms of community and autonomy through poetry and music. Blended learning has been increasingly implemented in higher education with the desire to transform teaching and learning. However, limited literature focuses on the perspectives of teachers who play a crucial role in adopting blended learning. This mixed-methods study utilized the Concerns-Based Adoption Model (Hall & Hord, 2006) to assess the stages of concerns among lecturers and their specific concerns regarding the top-down decision to adopt blended learning in a Vietnamese university. The Stages of Concerns Questionnaire was administered to 165 academic staff to explore their group concern profile, and follow-up semistructured interviews were then conducted with 16 lecturers to delve into their specific concerns. The findings showed that the lecturers were early adopters of blended learning, exhibiting strong concerns about the adoption, particularly those unrelated and self-focused. The research also indicated that lecturers experienced instructional ambiguity in understanding the essence of blended learning, technological apprehension, workload stress, and skepticism about student learning autonomy. However, there were also encouraging indicators, such as the lecturers' readiness to learn about blended learning, their enthusiasm for intradisciplinary cooperation, and their flexibility in applying the teaching strategy. These insights help policymakers better understand the concerns and viewpoints of the lecturers. Furthermore, the conclusion of this paper includes some suggestions for improvement. Aim: The present paper aims to highlight the main psycho-pedagogical landmarks that should be considered when choosing the selection coach for the groups of 6-8-year-old children in soccer and who will be in charge of their training. It is based on the premise that former footballers who intend to train groups of children must have solid training with real skills of communication, relationship, pedagogical tact, understanding, and knowledge of the age particularities and the needs of the children they are going to train. His training style must be adapted to these aspects specific to young children so that future footballers will love the training methods, even when the degree of difficulty of the exercises increases. The basis of rigorous training must be the children's enjoyment of playing soccer and their motivation to participate in training. The trainer must know how to maximize their enthusiasm and offer an attractive and varied training program that is well targeted toward the training objectives. The paper also presents some psychomotricity tests recommended in the selection process of children and some psychological coordinates for the coach to follow during the selection. In 1934, during the centenary celebrations commemorating Melbourne's European settlement, the Age newspaper published a short history of the inner suburb of North Melbourne. By this time only people who had been children in the early years of the suburb were left to reminisce and they did so with great enthusiasm, writing a string of over 80 letters to the editor in response to the article. The analysis of the letters in this co-authored paper, pairing the insights of local history and childhood studies, appreciably illuminates the urban settler-colonial identity that developed in Hotham/North Melbourne. This paper uses the lens of memory to show how childhood recollections were mobilized by the letter writers to naturalize and normalize settler presence. Several themes in the letters evidence this narrative: conquering the space through play; local personalities positioned in the settler space; pride in key colonial moments; positioning First Nations people as wandering fringe-dwellers; and claims of colonial childhood as 'original' or 'native' to the area. We identify a gendered nature to these reminiscences. Significantly, we argue that the adult employment of childhood memories is a particularly powerful mode of erasure and self-indigenization. The paper attempts a critical reinterpretation of the Platonic Ion and especially of the concept of enthusiasm. More particularly, it attempts to decode the Socratic irony and place itself between two contradicting interpretations of the work; the one that reads Ion as a work on Aesthetics and, in its more advanced version, as a quasi proto-romantic manifesto, and the other which fully negates to it any aesthetic status and value. Its thesis is that Ion forms an early formulation of that critique of poetry that would come back more systematically in the Republic, but that the concept of enthusiasm, which is indeed used to discredit poetry, ends up being richer from what its supernatural garment may suggest. Editorial notes in leading management journals have urged scholars to address Grand Challenges (GC) as an opportunity for producing knowledge that matters for society. This review explores whether current conceptualizations of GC support a productive path for management and organizational scholarship by guiding empirical inquiry, facilitating cumulative theory development, and informing practice. We systematically examine scholarly articles, calls for papers, and editorial notes published in management journals for consistency in how researchers use and define the concept of GC and the scope of associated phenomena and attributes. We find three prominent conceptual architectures in use: discursive, family resemblance, and phenomenon driven. The variety and incoherence of current uses of the GC concept and the lack of efforts to improve its analytical competence lead us to suggest its retirement. Instead, we propose building on the enthusiasm around GC research and using GC as a term to define research principles that collectively help align research efforts and improve theoretical development and practice. Social science teachers play a crucial role in shaping students' understanding of the world and their place within it. They not only impart knowledge but also help students develop critical thinking skills, empathy, and a sense of civic responsibility. Passionate teaching and learning are critical elements of effective education. This paper examines the impact of passionate teaching on teacher retention and wellness, as well as student learning, achievement, and well-being. Passionate teachers are defined by their enthusiasm, engagement, creativity, commitment, and flexibility, and have a positive impact on student motivation and engagement. On the other hand, passionate learners exhibit persistence, creativity, and autonomy in their learning journey. The paper also discusses strategies for increasing teacher passion for teaching, including professional development and a supportive school culture, and fostering student passion for learning, including a positive and engaging learning environment and opportunities for autonomy. The results of this study suggest that enhancing both teacher and student passion has a positive impact on teacher retention, teacher well-being, student achievement, and student well-being. With the exponential increase in scientific publications, new conceptual and technological tools are needed to help scientists, students, managers and policy-makers to navigate and digest current scientific knowledge. Hi Knowledge is an initiative to synthesise and visualise scientific knowledge, with an initial focus on invasion biology that is currently expanding to include urban ecology, restoration ecology and freshwater ecology. In a workshop on 5-6 June 2023 in Berlin, Germany, we discussed and tested a collection of new open tools related to this initiative in order to publish, curate, explore and synthesise concepts and results in ecology. Three main themes were discussed during in-person breakout group sessions: (1) building and using open tools for knowledge curation, exploration and synthesis; (2) making open knowledge searchable and machine friendly by improving modelling and annotation of scientific knowledge; and (3) extending beyond the field of invasion biology. We report on the discussions of all twelve sessions pertaining to these themes. A main underlying goal of our workshop was to build a community of scientists involved in openly co-designing and using these tools. Overall, the participants were enthusiastic about the usefulness of these tools and discussions gravitated around improving them and finding strategies to scale-up participation by the community. This paper investigates the car enthusiasm of Polish residents during the second and fourth waves of the pandemic. We try to answer if the car enthusiasm has changed between October 2020 and October 2021. Furthermore, we looked into the attitudes and beliefs of respondents about transport modes and their use, their perceived quality of life, and their opinions about sustainability and ecological lifestyle. We use a computer-assisted web interview (CAWI) survey in two rounds (October 2020 and October 2021). For data analysis, a structural equation modeling (SEM) model was proposed. We observe important changes in car enthusiasm between those two waves of the pandemic. Firstly, car enthusiasm was higher in 2021 than in 2020. Secondly, it was positively correlated with the ecological orientation of respondents. Thirdly, Y-generation respondents were less car enthusiastic. Fourthly, the influence of life quality on car enthusiasm was stronger in the fourth pandemic wave than during the second one. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper celebrates the scientific discoveries and the service to the automated reasoning community of Lawrence (Larry) T. Wos, who passed away in August 2020. The narrative covers Larry's most long-lasting ideas about inference rules and search strategies for theorem proving, his work on applications of theorem proving, and a collection of personal memories and anecdotes that let readers appreciate Larry's personality and enthusiasm for automated reasoning. The paper addresses the cultural paradigm of metamodernism as conceived by Timotheus Vermeulen and Robin van den Akker (2010). Ontologically, metamodernism is perceived as oscillating between the modern and the postmodern, whereby the tools of postmodernism (such as irony, sarcasm, parataxis, deconstruction, scepticism and nihilism) are employed to counter (but not obliterate) modernist naivety, aspiration and enthusiasm. This oscillation results in what the above authors have termed "informed naivety," a phrase denoting a state of wilful pragmatic idealism that allows for the imagining of impossible possibilities. Vermeulen and van den Akker's two key observations about the shift from postmodernism to metamodernism in contemporary art are discussed in this paper, namely the (re)appearance of sensibilities corresponding to those of Romanticism and the (re)emergence of utopian desires, in an attempt at a metamodernist analysis of the Netflix adaptation of the Bridgerton book series, aimed primarily at elucidating its popularity as one of the most watched programmes of the global Covid-19 pandemic. The British Railway Mania of the mid-1840s led to a massive expansion of the railway network, a socially beneficial legacy that however produced a collapse of profitability and dividends. Paradoxically, the majority of this expansion was carried out by established (and hitherto successful) railways, rather than Mania promotions. Campbell and Turner (2015) see this expansion as a rational, indeed optimal, response to the Mania: they would have been worse placed with alternative strategies. This paper contends that it was established railways which began the expansion in 1843–1844, and that the high returns they generated for their shareholders depended crucially on the rights issues that financed their projected lines. This helps to explain both shareholder support for expansion, and investor enthusiasm for Mania projections. But the new lines were unprofitable: the established railways' expansionary strategy was a major managerial failure with, in the longer term, disastrous consequences for shareholders. This paper aims to illustrate how several emotional mechanisms very probably played some causal and presumably significant role during the revolution that took place in Catalonia between July 1936 and May 1937 within the framework of the Spanish Civil War. Beyond this specific case study, the article contributes to the discussion on the role of emotions in large‐scale collective action and the concept of enthusiasm. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to examine Anzac Day commemoration in schools during World War 1. Design/methodology/approach: Empirical research from newspapers and education department publications is used to illustrate key themes in these commemorations. Findings: Despite claims made at the time that school commemorations did not promote militarism, the available evidence proves the fallacy of these assertions. Moreover, schools became very significant sites for the institutionalising of Anzac Day and shaping it in quite specific ways. Originality/value: While other authors have examined the militarisation of schools in Australia in the early decades of the 20th century, no study has focussed on schools specifically in relation to Anzac Day. Recent enthusiasm for grounding often begins by observing that inquiry in metaphysics (and other areas) features a distinctive species of noncausal explanation. Having labeled this species "grounding explanation," it's a short step to the conclusion that we need a philosophical theory of grounding itself: an allegedly fundamental relation of metaphysical dependency between facts, such that a "grounding explanation" of some fact succeeds by providing information about what "grounds" that fact. This short step is hasty. For another live option is to accept that grounding explanation is a legitimate form of explanation, but to give it a thoroughly epistemic treatment, one that does not see it as involving any sort of special metaphysical relationship or structure at all. Using a corpus-driven approach, this paper will address an important aspect of formulaicity in travel journalism, an under-researched genre that has hitherto received scarce attention on the part of academics in general and linguists in particular. In order to compile three 1-million-word comparable corpora, travel articles were downloaded from the online versions of the Guardian, La Repubblica, and Gazeta, to constitute representative samples of the genre in English, Italian and Polish. The texts were annotated for part-of-speech and lemma using TreeTagger. Collocate pairs were then extracted from the annotated data using tailor-made Perl scripts. Subsequently a dispersion filter of presence in at least 20 different texts was applied. The resulting collocate pairs were placed into thematic groups, including: ACCOMMODATION, FOOD, NATURE, SPORT, CULTURE+HISTORY, PEOPLE, PLACE, TRANSPORT, LOGISTICS, PRICE, ACTIVITY, EVALUATION, ROUTE, BUSINESS and TIME. The first five categories were subjected to further analysis, and it emerged that there were notable differences in their relative proportions between the three languages. Background. The Impact of Technology Integration in Learning on Increasing Student Engagement refers to how this technology integration can be used well in learning. With the integration of technology in learning, it will have a direct impact on students, both student involvement in using technology, as well as the impact on student activities and creativity. Purpose. This research was conducted with the aim of finding out how much impact technology integration has on increasing student engagement. Apart from that, it also aims as an explanation of how important technology is today in the learning process. Method. The method used in this research is a quantitative method. This method is a way of collecting numerical data that can be tested. Data was collected through distributing questionnaires addressed to students. Furthermore, the data that has been collected from the results of distributing the questionnaire will be accessible in Excel format which can then be processed using SPSS. Results. From the research results, it can be stated that the impact of technology integration in learning can indeed have an influence on increasing student engagement. Because basically, today's students are more interested in using technology. However, as a teacher you also need to supervise your students in learning when using this technology. This aims to ensure that students actually use technology to learn. Conclusion. From this research, it can be concluded that the impact of technology integration in learning has a very big influence on student engagement. With technology, students can be creative in how they learn, increase students' knowledge in using technology, make students more enthusiastic about learning, and make students less likely to get bored while studying. Oral English competence is crucial for the learners' life and potential professional success. Numerous studies on communicative language teaching were conducted; however, there is a dearth of literature on the application of CLT strategies in Chinese vocational colleges. The objective of this study was to identify CLT techniques that can improve the oral English skills of vocational college students in China. Specifically, it sought to answer the following: (1) What CLT strategies can be adapted for improving the oral proficiency of Chinese vocational college students? (2) What activities can be designed integrating adapted CLT strategies to help enhance Chinese vocational college students' oral proficiency? The study made use of a developmental research design using systematic document analysis as the method. Findings showed that group-oriented CLT strategies like role-play, pair and group work, interviews, information gap activities, etc., and individual-oriented CLT tactics like storytelling, picture description, and opinion-sharing activities can be adapted to improve Chinese vocational college students' oral proficiency. To help enhance Chinese vocational college students' oral proficiency, communicative language activities that integrate these identified CLT strategies were designed as instructors' guide in implementing CLT. Teachers are the primary change agents in educational practice, only by being more aware of what is truly going on in their classrooms can they assist students to achieve their learning goals. This paper aims to exploit fully the heuristic virtues of Keynes' famous 'old bottles' story, deploying a multi-layered argument and drawing out its broadest implications. In essence, we show that through this story Keynes was making a very serious point about anti-crisis policies: the need for authorities to stimulate animal spirits by relying on people's natural impulse to action. Rather than taking the place of entrepreneurs and paying people to dig holes, Keynes seems to be arguing that public authorities should put entrepreneurs in a situation where they are so enthusiastic that they go into debt to dig holes, just like during a gold rush. At the same time, it is a question of restoring the banks' willingness to lend for these overoptimistic projects in a period of total depression. This article explores the conditions that make public intervention as effective as possible through the enthusiasm and individual initiative that can be generated by an artificial gold rush. Such intervention therefore can be as minimal as possible, without having to resort to the opposite authoritarian solution of war. Since the gold rush builds cities and war destroys them, Keynes spent considerable energy convincing his contemporaries that liberal-democratic countries would have to take the former path if they wanted to avoid the latter. The scenario of moving the national capital aims to equalize economic growth. In reality, the president of the Republic of Indonesia has chosen Penajam Paser Utara in East Kalimantan as the new national capital (known as IKN Nusantara). Substantively, this program is predicted to have an impact on community empowerment. To stimulate the success of capital city relocation, stakeholder participation is needed, especially local communities using a comprehensive alternative. The primary target of this paper is to channel and expose the culture of East Kalimantan via IKN Nusantara educational tourism. The mixed method approach combines quantitative techniques based on surveys and qualitative techniques through in-depth interviews. As a result, most local people in East Kalimantan are interested in taking part in the IKN Nusantara educational tour with relatively low prices and unique packaging of activities. In particular, the informants desired to be part of IKN Nusantara, including maintaining cleanliness, caring for the environment, promoting educational tours on their social accounts, and actualizing this activity as content creators. The main polemic is that even though they obtain information regarding the IKN Nusantara from various media, they are still confused about the role taken in developing the IKN Nusantara. Therefore, the government's commitment can guarantee local community access as IKN Nusantara partners. Optimism for the future agenda needs to be supported by popular and mutually-adhering policies toward holistic engagement of all stakeholders. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper aims to investigate the presence of the representation of the sport of football in Italian poetry and the themes and motifs through which it recurs. In particular, through the literary evidence of poets such as Saba, Sereni, Giudici, Caproni, Pasolini, Spaziani, Porta, Raboni and others, a very suggestive path along which literature and football meet is highlighted: the two human activities originate from a certain amount of creativity; both allude to a human and historical dimension; both, finally, are connected to aesthetic pleasure and the dimension of play. Finally, we can see a triadic circularity between football, play and childhood, well expressed by poets such as Alfonso Gatto and Gianni Rodari. The path traced, which intercepts the feeling of the youngest on a terrain of consonances, but also of experiences and passions, can allow our youngsters to develop a renewed pleasure and enthusiasm in their relationship with the poetic text. My paper will present Tristan Tzara's artistic development from his early Symbolist days via Futurism to his Dadaist days in Zurich. In particular, I shall discuss how Futurism lingered on in the first phase of Dadaism and in Tzara's Dada poetics (1916-1918). I shall first analyse some traits of his Symbolist poetry, composed in the 1910s, until his departure from Romania. I shall argue that his orientation towards Futurism was possible thanks to his Symbolist beginnings, an aesthetic the young Tzara shared with many Futurists, including F.T. Marinetti. Following a reconsideration of the network of cultural relations forged by the Romanian writer between the young Dada group in Zurich and members of the Futurist movement in Rome, Naples and Mantua, or more precisely: between anti-Marinettian representatives of Futurism who edited the magazines Noi, Le pagine, Procellaria and Brigata, I shall demonstrate that Tzara continued to be open to Futurist influences, albeit from the Florentine and Ferrarese strands, which were more moderate and less dogmatic than the Milanese circle around Marinetti. Examining some Tzara works in Cabaret Voltaire and Dada, I shall demonstrate certain Futurist affinities in his Dadaist production, in particular with regard to the graphictypographic features of his poems and the performative tactics in his theatrical practice. This paper corrects a pervasive mistake in readings of Buber's iconic trope, "I-Thou" (Ich-Du; hereafter, I-You). The mistake lies in considering it synonymous to the principal concept of his dialogical thought, "relation" (Beziehung). A detailed reading of relevant passages in Buber's I and Thou (hereafter, IAT) reveals their difference: While both "relation" and "I-You" refer to the same reality—to the dialogic moment—they do so with a different focus and scope: "Relation" refers to the dialogic moment in its bilateral entirety. However, "primary word I-You" (hereafter, PWIY)—the phrase in which the I-You trope in fact appears in IAT—focuses on the active share of only one of the two interlocutors in the dialogic moment. While PWIY does refer to the dialogical moment (which is indeed bilateral), it denotes only a partial aspect of the dialogical moment. It focuses exclusively on my active turning toward you and defocuses your concurrent turning toward me (which, no doubt, is present as well). This mistake, I show, is due to interpreters' enthusiastic endorsement of Buber's later phrase, the "I-You relation," which is indeed synonymous with "relation." It is then easy to read back the "I-You relation" into the earlier, more focused concept of PWIY. Furthermore, this enthusiasm has blinded readers from realizing that, following IAT, Buber in fact abandoned the I-You trope and used it only reluctantly, mainly when addressing his interpreters who used it themselves, or when discussing IAT where it indeed appeared. This document is an introduction to a special issue of the International Journal of Control on PID control system design, automatic tuning, and applications. The authors highlight the importance of PID control systems in the field of control engineering and mention the enthusiasm for PID control observed at recent workshops. The special issue consists of eleven articles, including a review paper on feedforward compensation and PID control by Guzman and Hagglund, who are recognized experts in the field. The remaining articles cover topics such as relay feedback control, optimization-based methods, and new applications and algorithms for PID control. Background. The role of the teacher to increase student learning independence will be very influential. Teachers will be able to help students to carry out learning activities independently. So this will provide opportunities for students to be active during learning. The teacher will be a motivator to increase students' interest, enthusiasm, and self-confidence. This will provide a new enthusiasm for students to do things independently. Independence will also help students be more responsible in doing things. Purpose This study aims to determine how much the teacher's role is in increasing learning independence for students. Teachers who are a place of aspiration for students at school will play an important role in the development of students in the world of education. In addition, it also aims to provide an overview of the development of strategies and methods to support the needs in the process of independence for students. Method. The method used in this research is a quantitative method. This method is a form of data collection in the form of numbers that can be tested. The data obtained is the result of the acquisition of responses from the distribution of questionnaires containing questions regarding the influence of the teacher's role in increasing student learning independence. The statement in the form of a questionnaire is presented in the form of google from which is shared via whatsapp. The collected data will be accessed into excel to be processed using SPSS. Results. The results of this study state that teachers as parents in formal schools have a big role in the efforts of learning independence for students. Providing opportunities for students to be active in learning will provide opportunities towards learning independence. Appreciation and motivation from teachers will increase students' interest in learning. This will help students in overcoming learning difficulties. Teachers can provide guidance to improve students' learning independence. Conclusion This research can be concluded that students need the role of the teacher as a support for increasing independence in learning. Students' independence in learning will affect their daily lives. In addition, it will help students to increase self-confidence, responsibility, initiative, and self-control. The 20th century has seen the birth of the debate about the consolidation of cultural heritage and the use of different materials and techniques on those structures. The paper describes the Italian different schools of thought in those years using as an example the case of the restoration project of the Royal site of San Leucio. Locative media art has been a popular topic to study, yet the focus tends to be on examining the artworks themselves, which have challenged us to think about the complex interrelations of space, place and time in novel ways. In this paper we offer a different view of locative media art by examining the community practices that can emerge through the production of this work. By highlighting how the social media platform, WhatsApp, facilitated communication and arts practice during a recent summer school on the theme of locative media, we demonstrate how cultures of enthusiasm can emerge from the adjacent digital spaces of locative media art. Our reflections highlight the ways that enthusiasm for locative media art and towards other participants was produced through WhatsApp spaces, through both enthusiastic language practices and atmospheres of enthusiasm. Ultimately, we aim to reveal that locative media is not only a technology that is used to shape our relationship to space, place and time, but that it is also a technology which encourages a set of community driven practices. This historically oriented essay treats Michael Polanyi and Marjorie Grene’s discussions of Maurice Merleau-Ponty in their correspondence in the 1960s. It traces Grene’s growing enthusiasm for Merleau-Ponty and notes both Polanyi’s criticism and praise for Merleau-Ponty’s perspective in relation to his account of tacit knowing. The essay also comments on Polanyi’s criticism of Gilbert Ryle and his effort to align his perspective with Francis Walsh’s and F. S. Rothchild’s neurophysiological ideas about the operation of mind. I discuss the innovative Ford Foundation-funded conference program, spearheaded by Polanyi and Grene, that brought together an interdisciplinary group of scholars interested in transforming the prevailing philosophical paradigm. This project is the context in which discussion about Merleau-Ponty, Polanyi, and other figures flourished and Grene produced a complicated but fascinating set of little-known publications.
