Background: Organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs) are compounds with a wide range of industrial and commercial applications and are mainly used as flame retardants and plasticizers. The global consumption of OPFRs has risen rapidly in recent decades, and they have been widely detected in environmental media. Unfortunately, OPFRs have been associated with many adverse health outcomes. The issue of the health risks of OPFRs is attracting increasing attention. Therefore, there is a need to review the current state of research and trends in this field to help researchers and policymakers quickly understand the field, identify new research directions, and allocate appropriate resources for further development of the OPFR health risk research field. Methods: This study statistically analyzed 1162 relevant publications included in the Web of Science Core Collection from 2003–2023. The internal and external features of the literature, such as publication trends, countries, authors, journals, and keywords, were quantitatively analyzed and visually presented to identify the research hotspots, compositions, and paradigms of the field and to horizontally and vertically analyze the development trends and structural evolution of the field. Results: The development of the field can be divided into three stages, and the field entered a period of rapid development in 2016. China (649 papers) is the most prolific country, followed by the United States (188 papers). The authors STAPLETON HM and WANG Y have the highest combined impact. International collaboration between countries and researchers still needs to be strengthened. Science of The Total Environment is the most frequently published journal (162 papers), and Environmental Science and Technology is the most frequently cited journal (5285 citations). Endocrine disruption, developmental toxicity, and neurotoxicity are the health effects of greatest interest. Conclusions: Future research is expected to be multidisciplinary, and research hotspots may involve a comprehensive assessment of OPFR exposure in the population, exploration of the mechanisms of endocrine-disrupting effects and in vivo metabolic processes, and examination of the health effects of OPFR metabolites. Introduction: In the current background of global economic slowdown, the traditional reliance on one regulatory instrument or the unilateral consideration of the effectiveness of one regulatory policy in policy formulation is no longer sufficient to cope with the increasingly complex contradictions between environmental protection and economic development. In the construction of a modernized environmental governance system, it has become an inevitable choice to achieve synergy between various environmental regulations. In China, the citizens' environmental supervision campaign that gradually emerged in 2006 and the local carbon trading pilots that started in 2013, as typical representatives of informal and formal environmental regulation respectively, provide vivid and realistic materials for our study. Methods: Using econometric models and microdata from listed Chinese firms from 2009 to 2020, we analyze the profound logic and internal mechanism by which this synergistic governance effect of environmental regulation affects the economic society and the development pattern of firms. Results and discussion: The study found that: (1) the synergistic effect of the carbon trading policy and citizens' environmental supervision can significantly promote the transition of enterprises to a sustainable development model, especially paying attention to the role of citizens' environmental supervision in this process. (2) The regional development level, cost transfer capability, and political connection can make the synergy of the two environmental regulations vary across firms. (3) The synergistic effect of environmental regulation promotes the behavior of enterprises in line with the requirements of sustainable development by influencing enterprises' R&D and innovation investment, resource allocation efficiency, and sustainable development awareness. (4) A favorable regional rule of law environment and moderate media attention can effectively increase the intensity of citizens' environmental supervision, and at the same time strengthen the effectiveness of synergistic governance of environmental regulation in the transformation and development of enterprises. The GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) satellite, operational from its launch in 2002 until October 2017, documented critical changes in global terrestrial water storage, significantly advancing the fields of gravity field analysis, hydrological variations, and environmental monitoring. This study investigates the thematic evolution of 2,966 SCIE-indexed publications on GRACE satellite applications from 2002 to 2022, utilizing co-occurrence network mapping and complex network analysis. Our results indicate a steady growth in GRACE satellite application research, with early publications (2002-2004) achieving an average citation rate exceeding 100, underscoring their substantial impact. Keyword clustering identified four primary research themes: Hydrology and Water Resources, Atmospheric and Environmental Science, Geophysical and Temporal Analysis, and Polar and Glaciological Studies. Over time, these themes have expanded and deepened, transitioning from initial focuses on gravity field computations to hydrological applications, sea level studies, and more specific investigations into water resources, climate change, and advancements in satellite geodesy. Recent research has particularly concentrated on groundwater and water storage issues. Geographically, the United States leads in publication output, impact, and international collaborations, with China following in publication count and network centrality, albeit with potential for improved impact. European countries demonstrate significant influence and centrality within the cooperation network. The evolution index of the international cooperation network shows a significant increase in connectivity from 2002 to 2022, with closer cooperation between countries. There is notable growth in both the number and intensity of collaborations, as evidenced by the rising average degree and average weighted degree. Overall, these indices underscore the evolution towards a more connected and globally integrated research network in GRACE satellite research. Looking forward, technological advancements, enhanced international collaboration, and integration with other data sources will drive future research in GRACE satellite application research, with important implications for addressing global environmental and climate challenges. Abstract\nHIGHLIGHTSUnder the promotion of urban planning and land development policies, the urban spatial structure of China is undergoing a transformation towards polycentricity. The improvement of environmental performance during the process of urban spatial transformation is crucial for urban sustainable development. This paper uses high-resolution population grid data from LandScan for the years 2001–2019 to measure the urban spatial structure of Chinese cities. Then we match the Chinese Industrial Enterprise Database with the Chinese Industrial Enterprise Pollution Emission Database for the years 2001–2014. This paper empirically examines the impact and mechanisms of the polycentric spatial structure of Chinese cities on enterprise pollution reduction at the micro-level. The findings indicate that compared to monocentricity, polycentricity is more conducive to improving enterprise environmental performance. Mechanism tests demonstrate that the improvement in enterprise environmental performance resulting from polycentricity can be achieved through three channels: increasing urban population and density, mitigating urban environmental pollution, and promoting enterprise innovation ability. Heterogeneity analysis reveals that polycentricity is more beneficial for emission reduction among small enterprises, young enterprises and enterprises in regions with higher environmental regulations. Studies related to oil and gas wells have attracted worldwide interest due to the increasing energy shortfall and the requirement of sustainable development and environmental protection. However, the state of oil and gas wells in terms of research characteristics, technological megatrends, article-produced patterns, leading study items, hot topics, and frontiers is unclear. This work is aimed at filling the research gaps by performing a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of 6197 articles related to oil and gas wells published between 1900 and 2021. VOSviewer and CiteSpace software were used as the main data analysis and visualization tools. The analysis shows that the annual variation of article numbers, interdisciplinary numbers, and cumulative citations followed exponential growth. Oil and gas well research has promoted the expansion of research fields such as engineering, energy and fuels, geology, environmental sciences and ecology, materials science, and chemistry. The top 10 influential studies mainly focused on shale gas extraction and its impact on the environment. More studies were produced by larger author teams and inter-institution collaborations. Elkatatny and Guo have greatly contributed to the application of artificial intelligence in oil and gas wells. The two most contributing institutions were the Southwest Petr Univ and China Univ Petr from China. The People's Republic of China, the US, and Canada were the countries with the most contributions to the development of oil and gas wells. The authoritative journal in engineering technology was J Petrol Sci Eng, in environment technology was Environ Sci Technol, in geology was Aapg Bull, and in materials was Cement Concrete Res. The keyword co-occurrence network cluster analysis indicated that oil well cement, new energy development, machine learning, hydraulic fracturing, and natural gas and oil wells are the predominant research topics. The research frontiers were oil extraction and its harmful components (1992–2016), oil and gas wells (1997–2016), porous media (2007–2016), and hydrogen and shale gas (2012–2021). This paper comprehensively and quantitatively analyzes all aspects of oil and gas well research for the first time and presents valuable information about active and authoritative research entities, cooperation patterns, technology trends, hotspots, and frontiers. The emergence of mega-journals (MJs) has influenced scholarly communication. One concrete manifestation of this impact is that more citations have been generated. Citations are the foundation of many evaluation metrics to assess the scientific impact of journals, disciplines, and regions. We focused on searching for citation beneficiaries and quantifying the relative benefit at the journal, discipline and region levels. More specifically, we examined the distribution and contribution to citation-based metrics of citations generated by the five discipline-specific mega-journals (DSMJs) categorized as Environmental Sciences (ES) on Web of Science (WoS) from Clarivate Analytics in 2021: Sustainability, International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, Environmental Science and Pollution Research, Journal of Cleaner Production and Science of the Total Environment. Analysis of the distribution of citing data of the five DSMJs shows a pattern with wide coverage but skewness by region and the WoS category; that is, papers in the five DSMJs contributed 26.66% of their citations in 2021 to Mainland China and 22.48% to the ES. Moreover, 15 journals within the ES had their JIFs boosted by more than 20%, benefitting from the high citing rates of the five DSMJs. More importantly, the analysis provides clear evidence that DSMJs can contribute to JIF scores throughout a discipline through their volume of references. Overall, DSMJs can widely impact scholarly evaluation because they contribute citation benefits and improve the evaluation index performance of different scientific entities at different levels. In order to scientifically evaluate the disturbance level of geological environment caused by coal mining in northwest China, and to formulate the corresponding restoration plan of the broken ecological environment, an underground coalmine in the Xinjiang province, the most northwestern province in China, was selected as the researching object of this paper. Firstly, surface subsidence and aquifer destruction were selected as two typical indexes to evaluate the environmental disturbance level of the target underground coalmine, based on the result of a thorough field investigation. After that, a COMSOL numerical model and a theoretical calculating model were established respectively according to the geological condition of the target mine, to evaluate the surface subsidence and aquifer destruction in the early stage (5 years), medium stage (10 years) and long-term stage (20 years) of the full life cycle of the target coalmine. Finally, corresponding land reclamation technologies including collapse backfill, land levelling and vegetation recovery, and follow-up monitoring measures consist of periodic-offline manual observation and continuous-online sensor observation, were put forward in terms of the different disturbance level of the mine environment within different mining stages. Climate change has been a widely concerned issue for decades. As the key policy target, the economic impact caused by climate change has received general attention from scholars and governments around the world. For the number of literatures is huge and the relationships among the literatures are not clear, we aim to clarify the research hotpots and the research trends of current literatures and provide inspiration for the development directions of future research in this paper. Using the bibliometric method, this paper characterizes the literatures on the economic impact of climate change based on the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection. The results reveal that the USA occupies the leading position of the studies, which publishes most documents, and contains the most productive institutes and well-known scholars. From 2009, the number of documents published by a Chinese scholar started to increase rapidly, which makes China the second most productive country in recent years. The journals both belong to the WoS Categories of economics and environmental sciences and tend to publish more literatures than others. Adaptation, vulnerability, uncertainty, economic growth, climate policy, ecosystem service, energy consumption, renewable energy, food security, and land use are the representative keywords that have both high frequency and high centrality. Potential benefits, fat-tailed risk, social cost, international migration, and sustainable intensification are the top five main research hotspots. Based on the citation network of the top 50 documents with the highest local citation score, four research trends are sorted out: (i) the methodological innovation to monetized estimate the economic impact of climate change, (ii) the effect of current and future adaptive measures on agriculture, (iii) the interactional relationship between induced technological change and carbon tax, and (iv) the effect on labor market caused by climate change. The resources of a country are limited, and people must consider the important issue of how to make use of these limited material resources to create major economic value for humans. The theory of the circular economy has been proposed, which relies on scientific model research to create economic development that is more in line with people's concept of environmental management. The circular economy is characterised by resource conservation, recycling, coordination, low development, high utilization and low emissions. All material and energy use is reasonable, and sustainable land use minimises the influence of economic activities on the natural environment. Based on the theory of the circular economy, this paper studies the model of environmental management science. This paper analyses the mining development mode, the mechanism of the circular economy, and green logistics research based on circular economy theory and then applies statistical analyses to the two models. It summarises the development mode and the mechanism of the mining circular economy based on the current mineral resource development and utilization situation and the environmental problems in China. An innovative mode mechanism for mining circular economy development is proposed that can provide a value evaluation standard for social development. Through the above research, it is found that the use of circular economy theory can not only help make effective use of resources but also provide a new way to improve the gross national product. The environmentally responsible behaviors of residents and tourists are great significance to the protection of natural resources and sustainable development of ecotourism. This paper takes China's Qilian Mountains National Park as the case place. By constructing a theoretical model of perceived value on environmentally responsible behavior and studying the relationship between residents' and tourists' perceived value, satisfaction and environmentally responsible behavior from both subject and object perspectives, the study shows that. Educational level and occupational distribution have significant effects on residents' and tourists' perceptions of ecotourism environmentally responsible behaviors, but age only has a significant effect on residents' perceptions of ecotourism environmentally responsible behaviors. Gender differences do not affect residents' and tourists' perceptions of ecotourism environmentally responsible behaviors. The theoretical model between residents' perceptions of environmentally responsible behaviors, environmentally responsible behaviors, and satisfaction was basically confirmed. Perceived environmentally responsible behaviors of tourists does not affect satisfaction. Satisfaction has a positive effect on tourists' environmentally responsible behaviors. Perceived environmental responsibility of tourists has a significant positive effect on tourists' environmentally responsible behaviors. The overall level of residents' perception of environmentally responsible behaviors in ecotourism is higher than tourists' perception. Residents and tourists have a poor perception of ecological and environmental protection policies. This paper expects to strengthen residents' and tourists' perceptions of ecologically responsible behaviors. Establishing the sentiment of satisfaction and commitment to environmental protection motivates residents and tourists to implement environmentally responsible behaviors and contribute to the sustainable development of ecotourism. Based on the full‐sample panel data from 23 provinces and cities in China from 2013 to 2020, this paper studies the influences of environmental regulations on regional carbon emission efficiency in China under the background of opening carbon emission trading after dividing the country into high, medium, and low emission areas with emission quantity as the classification standard and constructing a regression model. The experiment reveals that the environmental regulation strength and carbon dioxide emission efficiency are positively correlated with each other in the first place. Second, there exists a positive correlation between environmental regulation strength and carbon dioxide emission efficiency in different emission regions, while in terms of the impact of environmental regulation on carbon emission efficiency, it influences the medium emission areas most, followed by low emission areas, and the high emission areas to the least. Then, current domestic environmental regulation is effective and plays a positive role in improving carbon emission efficiency and promoting the development of a low‐carbon economy in China. This study explores current research trends in environmental studies, emphasizing the importance of addressing climate change through effective strategies and highlighting the crucial role of circular economy principles and resource management in achieving sustainability goals. It aims to investigate emerging patterns and analyze the altmetric impact of published research in the field of environment and pollution. Environmental Science and Pollution Research (ESPR), a research journal published by Springer since January 1994, serves as a cornerstone for scholarly discourse in this field. The first volume of ESPR was released in January 1994, and since then, all of the information has been indexed by significant databases like OCLC WorldCat Discovery Service, SCOPUS, and DIMENSIONS, amongst others. ESPR is one of the leading journals with a five-year impact factor of 5.4 and 1.01 SJR Q1 quartile as of 2023, with an h-index of 179. The journal has published influential articles that garnered high altmetric scores, indicating online attention and engagement, although there is a notable disparity between altmetric scores and total citations. Most of the highly cited articles cover various topics, including eutrophication, electrochemical advanced oxidation processes, insecticides, and phytoremediation. Most publications fall under environmental sciences, followed by pollution and contamination. Chinese institutions have substantially contributed to the journal, indicating a strong emphasis on environmental and pollution research in China. Our findings reveal significant growth in publication output and citation rates, alongside a notable disparity between traditional citation metrics and altmetrics, underscoring the need for comprehensive impact assessment methodologies. A bibliometric analysis using the Scopus database was performed to investigate the research documents published from 1990 to 2019 in scientific sources related to molybdenum in drinking water and determine the quantitative characteristics of the research in this period. The results from the analysis revealed that the number of publications was maintained at a regular production of around 5 papers per year until 2009, followed by a fast linear increase in the production in the period from 2010 to 2016 (29 papers in 2016), but the scientific production regarding this topic was reduced in 2017 and 2018 to recover the production obtained in 2016 once again in 2019. The total contribution of the three most productive countries (USA, China and India, respectively) accounted for around 50% of the total number of publications. Environmental Science was the most common subject (51.4% contribution), followed by Chemistry (26.7% contribution). The research efforts targeted toward the search for technical solutions for molybdenum removal from water are not as important as the ones focused on the identification of molybdenum-polluted water bodies and the analysis of the health effects of the intake of molybdenum. Nevertheless, examples of technological treatments to remove molybdenum from the aqueous solution include the use of adsorption and ion exchange; coagulation, flocculation and precipitation followed by filtration; membrane technologies and biological treatments. Environmental regulation has played an essential function in reducing pollution and it also influences the flow of labor. Although studies on employment and environmental regulation have gained prominence, most researches ignore the heterogeneity of regulatory tools and its discrepant impacts on different skilled labor; moreover, few literatures have explored how environmental regulations affect employment. Therefore, this study creatively incorporates environmental regulation, industrial green transformation and employment skill structure into a unified analytical framework, categorizing environmental regulations into command-and-control type, market-incentive type and voluntary type and analyzing the heterogeneous influences of environmental regulations on employment skill structure. Meanwhile, we explore the indirect impact of environmental regulations on the employment skill structure from the mediating role of industrial green transformation. The following are the research findings: (1) From a national perspective, both command-and-control and market-incentive types present a U-shaped association with employment skill structure, and their intensity has not surpassed the turning point yet; while the voluntary type is positively connected with the employment skill structure. (2) From the regional analysis, the findings in central and western areas are consistent with the national results; while the market-incentive and voluntary types show a reciprocal U-shaped connection with employment skill structure in eastern, and their regulatory intensity is in the rising stage of the curve. (3) Industrial green transformation acts as a partly mediator between market-incentive type and employment skill structure, but presents a suppression effect between command-and-control type, voluntary type, and employment skill structure. This paper takes industrial green transformation as the mediating variable, which emphasizes the importance of industrial green transformation and enhances the understanding on the mechanism of environmental regulation influencing employment skill structure. The research results provide theoretical support and significant reference for China in formulating policies to facilitate industrial green transformation, mitigate pollution, and optimize employment skill structure. Background: Toxicity concerns persist in the fields of public health, environmental science, and pharmacology. The intricate and vital role of the gastrointestinal microbiome in influencing toxicity and overall human health has gained increasing recognition in recent years. This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to evaluate the global scientific output, emerging trends, and research focal points in the area of gastrointestinal microbiome and toxicity. Methods: The Web of Science Core Collection database was retrieved for publications on the gastrointestinal microbiome and toxicity from 1980 to 2022. Our analysis included scholarly research papers written in English and excluded duplicate publications. We used Biblioshiny and R to summarize the count and citation metrics of included articles, and visualized research trends and keywords. CiteSpace was used to identify reference literature, keywords, and citation bursts. VOSviewer was used to visualize the network of related countries, institutions, authors, co-cited authors, and keywords. Results: A total of 2,140 articles were included, allowing us to identify significant countries, institutions, authors, and research focal points. Our results indicate a growing trend in the field, with China and the United States leading the research. The most productive journal in this area is Science of the Total Environment. Key findings revealed that research hotspots have shifted from drugs to environmental pollutants, emphasizing microplastics. Important mechanisms studied include oxidative stress, metabolism, inflammation, and apoptosis, with target organs being the gastrointestinal tract, liver, and brain. Furthermore, we highlight the rising significance of the gut-brain axis and the usage of zebrafish as a model organism. Conclusion: Despite certain limitations, such as focusing solely on Englishlanguage publications and excluding unpublished literature, our findings provide valuable insights into the current state of research on toxicity and the gastrointestinal microbiome. In the future, modifications to the gastrointestinal microbiome could offer new directions for treating and mitigating toxicity. The lack of suitable indicators of changes in such as sea‐level and circulation has been a major limit to paleoenvironmental and paleoceanographic investigations in continental shelf regions. This paper presents an environmental magnetic study by comparing two late‐Quaternary sediment cores (DH02 and DH03) from the outer shelf of the East China Sea (ECS). Late and early Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 3 sediments were deposited in a prodelta under cold coastal currents and an open‐shelf with the Taiwan Warm Current and upwelling. The dominant iron‐bearing minerals of the late and early MIS 3 sediments are authigenic greigite (Fe3S4) and pyrite (FeS2), respectively, which were assumed to be formed nearly syndepositionally. The overlying sediments, however, are magnetically dominated by detrital magnetite. This pattern corresponds well to the temporal changes in sea‐level over this period. The widespread occurrence of greigite in the late MIS 3 sediments can also be used for future stratigraphic division and correlation in the ECS. Additionally, compared to microfossil assemblages, rock magnetic parameters based on greigite may be more sensitive to environmental changes on continental shelves. Furthermore, the inter‐borehole spatial comparisons imply not only a sedimentary hiatus/erosion of at least 30‐m thickness in core DH02, most probably during the Last Glacial Maximum, but also that core DH02 was in a more reductive environment than core DH03 during late MIS 3. The findings highlight the potential of authigenic greigite as an indicator of spatiotemporal changes in paleoenvironmental and paleoceanographic conditions on the continental shelf at orbital or even suborbital timescales. Plain Language Summary: Environmental and oceanographic conditions on continental shelves are vital for sedimentation processes and human settlements, but the reconstruction of their evolution is hindered by the lack of effective indicators. Recent studies have indicated that syndepositional formation of greigite, a precursor to pyrite, is highly likely in shallow‐water environments with rapid sedimentation. Here, two sediment cores meridionally traversing the outer shelf of the East China Sea were investigated. The magnetic mineral assemblage and sedimentary environment exhibited almost identical change patterns, with pyrite, greigite, and magnetite as the major magnetic minerals of the early and late Marine Isotope Stage 3, and Last Glacial Maximum/last deglacial deposits, respectively. This agreeably reflects the temporal fluctuations in sea‐level and ocean circulation. By comparing the two cores, the spatial characteristics of stratigraphy and redox conditions could be determined clearly. This study thus provides a good reference for paleoenvironmental and paleoceanographic research based on authigenic greigite in continental shelf sediments. Purpose: This study aims to examine how the political career concerns of top executives affect corporate environmental practices. Design/methodology/approach: Based on rent-seeking theory, this work uses empirical analysis to investigate the impact of top executives' political connection and political promotion on corporate environmental information disclosure (EID). Data were collected from Chinese listed firms in heavily polluting industries in the Shanghai Stock Market in 2014–2016. Findings: The results reveal that the highly politically connected top executives are more likely to be promoted in their political positions than their counterparts. However, the firms under the management of these highly politically connected executives show low level of EID. The results suggest that the political motivations of top executives with political connection hinders corporate EID. Originality/value: This paper extends literature system about the impact of executives' rent-seeking on corporate EID by examining the informal mechanisms in terms of political connection and political promotion. Based on relevant literature in the Web of Science Core Collection, this paper uses CiteSpace and spatial analysis methods to explore the spatial and temporal distribution pattern of the research areas of low-carbon rural and identify the evolution and trends of low-carbon rural research. The conclusions are as follows: ➀ The study of carbon emissions in rural areas began with a focus on developed countries, and later expanded to include developing countries. This research spanned across time and space, with China and the United States emerging as key geographical differentiators. ➁ The research on rural carbon emissions involves many disciplines such as environmental ecological science and agronomy, and reveals a concurrent trend of expansion of research topics and improved quantitative management model correctness. ➂ The five major topics of rural carbon emissions research are farming practices, biofuels and land use changes, agricultural-food-environment systems, sustainable diets, and rural greenhouse gas measurement and industrial management ➃ Research in China has some limitations, such as a focus on rural travel rather than dietary structure, limited scope and low degree of refinement of greenhouse gas measurement. Based on the above conclusions, combined with China s "the Belt and Road Initiative", rural transformation and rural revitalization policies, the future research is prospected from the aspects of cross-regional coordination of rural carbon emissions, pilot practice of carbon tax and environmental tax, construction of intelligent management system of rural industries, and adjustment of national diet structure, so as to provide reference for the development of low-carbon rural areas in China. As the significant residuals in the sewage treatment system, sludge treatment and reuse play a pivotal impact on the environmental sustainability study in China. In this paper, two sewage sludge treatment systems have been investigated, calculated, and analyzed, including the conventional treatment system (Scenario A) and improved reuse system (Scenario B), respectively. The results demonstrate that (1) Compared to Scenario A, Scenario B is a comprehensive system, which integrates a sewage sludge treatment system and a brick production system for sludge recycling. (2) After considering the brick system (scenario B), on the one hand, the sludge treatment capacity has been enhanced and raised sludge utilization; on the other hand, negative influences have also generated due to the non-renewable resources input and several outputs. (3) In Scenario A and Scenario B, the input resources part reflects the main impact (about 59.6% in the entire emergy value). (4) In this new paper, the UEVs are 2.73E + 11sej/kg and 6.29E + 11sej/kg in Scenario A and Scenario B, respectively. (5) The emergy sustainability indexes (ESI) are 0.012292 and 0.00848, which express the weak comprehensive effects in Scenario A and Scenario B. (6) Scenario B has a more extensive range of change than Scenario A because of the more resource input for the sensitivity analysis. This paper studies the environmental consequences of firm's participation in the global value chain, based on a unique firm‐level data set from 2000 to 2007 by combining several large and representative databases in China. We propose a novel global value chain (GVC) engagement index that properly characterizes Chinese firm's importing patterns. By estimating fixed‐effects models with a rich set of firm‐level and industry‐level controls, our results robustly show that firm's engagement in GVC leads to decreased SO2 emission. The identified effects are stronger for firms with domestic ownership, firms of higher pollution intensity, and firms exposed to more stringent place‐based environmental regulation. We further demonstrate that the pollution reduction effects induced by firm's GVC engagement is attributable to lower SO2 intensity, which is likely to be achieved via the attenuated use of fossil fuels and the increased adoption of abatement devices. The concepts of ecological thresholds and alternative stable states were proposed to explain nonlinear changes. However, the greatest obstacle to advance these theories and their managerial applications is a lack of data and research experience. There are almost all types of ecosystems in China, and various ecological degradation and catastrophe events occurred at the end of the 20th century. Considerable monitoring data and research cases that focus on the ecological thresholds are published in Chinese, limiting their dissemination around the world. We integrate Chinese cases and data that refer to the framework of Threshold Database and Regime Shifts Database. We introduce the China Ecological Thresholds and Alternative Stable States Database (CETASSD), developed by the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, which mainly collects research cases. The CETASSD uses a unified description framework to integrate key information from past 110 case studies from China. This paper summarizes relevant case studies with intrinsic consistency to ecological thresholds and alternative stable states in social-ecological systems. We collate and analyze 26 potential alternative stable states and 60 potential ecological thresholds in CETASSD, covering 14 types of ecosystems. We found several peculiarities of the Chinese case studies. First, more types of alternative stable states were identified in arid areas and Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Second, critical thresholds research related to spatial gradient has received great attention. Third, methods of constructing highly generalized "stress-response" process lines are mainly used for threshold analysis. We suggest re-examining past research cases and methods with the latest theories of ecological thresholds and alternative stable states; strengthening research on the detection of threshold and mechanism establishment of certain ecosystems, such as the ocean in China; and further applying ecological thresholds to ecological assessment and early warning. Purpose: Drylands cover 41% of the Earth's surface (6 billion ha), where approximately 2 billion people live. In this study, we performed a bibliometric analysis of the evolution, collaboration, and trends of global soil science research on drylands. Methods: We have used the papers on soil science in global drylands indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) data platform in the last 50 years (1970–2019). Results: According to our results, a total of 31,304 scientific papers on the subject were published worldwide, following an exponential growth (R2 = 0.9413) over time. USA (26.2%), China (19.3%), and Australia (9.2%) were the most productive countries, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (10.0%) and USDA (5.8%) were the institutions with the greatest contributions. Our results indicated a predominance of scientific collaboration between European countries with African and South American countries and an intense scientific collaboration between the most productive countries (USA, China, and Australia). Journal of Arid Environments had the highest number of publications on the subject (3.0%), and soil biology, especially biological crusts, is probably the main research front of soil science studies on drylands. Conclusion: Our results confirm the evolution of global soil science research on drylands over the past 50 years and confirm the multidisciplinary nature of this area of knowledge, with greater participation of studies focused on food production, but with a strong presence of studies related to environmental sciences, ecology, and water resources. Citizen science (CS) is the practice in which amateurs without formal scientific training collect data to contribute to the scientific observations available to scientists and decision makers (Bonney et al., 2009). Citizen science is increasingly utilized for environmental protection and conservation as well as related purposes such as education, access to nature, access to justice, inclusion, civics and equality or other ‘social goods’ (Mor Barak, 2020; Makuch & Aczel, 2020). Several eco-citizen science projects are developing in China (Chen et al., 2020; Hsu, Yeo, & Weinfurter, 2020), though little research has evaluated their effectiveness in facilitating environmental protection or advancing social goods. This paper aims to identify the role and potential benefits of environmental citizen science in China to promote environmental and social objectives within the context of what has been called “authoritarian environmentalism” (Beeson, 2018). Through semi-structured interviews and a review of the limited available literature, we identify three key areas in which citizen science could potentially benefit environmental protection and promote social good in China: (1) fostering education to inform society and encourage environmental advocacy; (2) facilitating effective environmental governance through monitoring and litigation; and (3) improving data collection for biodiversity and conservation research. This study reviews worldwide wetland park research from 1996 to 2022. A bibliometric analysis is conducted on 591 wetland park studies indexed in the Web of Science and Scopus databases. The study utilizes CiteSpace and VOSviewer tools to visualize and explore influential research focuses, themes, directions, and countries. The citation burst indicates that from 1996 to 2022, research on wetland parks transited from exploring basic community structures to complex ecosystem service assessments and the formulation of management strategies. Furthermore, over the past three years, wetland park research has seen a significant surge in studies investigating water quality, ecosystem services, and spatiotemporal analysis. Notably, the three most frequent keywords in research on wetland parks were China, South Africa, and biodiversity. These keywords reflect regions that enhance biodiversity via wetland parks. The spectral-clustering algorithm identifies carbon sequestration as a research focus, highlighting the vital role of wetlands in the carbon cycle. Most authors work in developed countries' institutions, but some are from developing countries like China, South Africa, and India. The findings suggest that economic development is crucial in wetland park construction and significantly influences related research. Developed countries may offer more PhD positions to developing countries' researchers in the field and raise their awareness about wetland conservation. Given the holistic requirements of wetlands, this research recommends that educators should adopt an interdisciplinary approach in the future when nurturing wetland staff. Additionally, the study maps out the primary areas of interest in wetland park research, including environmental science, ecological economics, forestry, wetlands, tourism, and management. New artificial intelligence and digital technologies should be developed for wetland park research. Forest ecological benefit compensation protects the ecological environment, increases enthusiasm among forest ecological builders, protects the legitimate economic interests of forest landowners, and maintains environmental security. In this study, a systematic analysis was conducted on 4062 publications in the field of international forest ecological benefit compensation identified using the Web of Science core collection Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) databases alongside CiteSpace optical measurement software. The research status and influence of countries were tracked, scientific research institutions and important authors were identified, and interdisciplinary and scientific hotspots were analyzed. The results show that the number of studies in this field has significantly increased over time and has strong development potential. The journals and articles presenting cutting-edge research in this field are all considered highly professional. The selected research is highly interdisciplinary but primarily involves environmental science and ecology. Despite the publication volume of China ranking second among the top 10 countries, its average citation volume was the lowest, indicating the urgent need to increase the international influence of China. Forest biodiversity, ecosystem services, and climate change are current research hotspots in this field. The China Undergraduate Cohort (CUC) is an ambispective cohort study with its major purpose to better understand the effects of lifetime environmental exposures on health outcomes. We recruited 5322 college students with an average age of 18.3 ± 0.7 years in China from August 23, 2019 to October 28, 2019. Follow-up surveys were conducted annually. The dataset comprises individual demographic data (e.g. age, sex, height, weight, birth date, race, home address, annual family income, contact information), health-related behavior data (smoking status, smoking cessation, passive smoking exposure, drinking habit, physical activity, dietary status), lifestyle data (physical exercise, dietary habit, length of time spent outdoors), disease history (respiratory disease history, cardiovascular disease history, urinary system disease history, etc.), mental health status data (sleep quality, self-reported stress, anxiety and depression symptoms), lung function and blood samples data. Phytoplankton blooms have caused many serious public safety incidents and eco-environmental problems worldwide and became a focus issue for research. Accurate and rapid monitoring of phytoplankton blooms is critical for forecasting, treating, and management. With the advantages of large spatial coverage and high temporal resolution, remote sensing has been widely used to monitor phytoplankton blooms. Numerous advances have been made in the remote sensing of phytoplankton blooms, biomass, and phenology over the past several decades. To fully understand the development history, research hotspots, and future trends of remote-sensing technology in the study of phytoplankton blooms, we conducted a comprehensive review to systematically analyze the research trends in the remote sensing of phytoplankton blooms through bibliometrics. Our findings showed that research on the use of remote-sensing technology in this field increased substantially in the past 30 years. "Oceanography," "Environmental Sciences," and "Remote Sensing" are the most popular subject categories. Remote Sensing of Environment, Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, and International Journal of Remote Sensing were the journals with the most published articles. The results of the analysis of international influence and cooperation showed that the United States had the greatest influence in this field and that the cooperation between China and the United States was the closest. The Chinese Academy of Sciences published the largest number of papers, reaching 542 articles. Keyword and topic analysis results showed that "phytoplankton," "chlorophyll," and "ocean" were the most frequently occurring keywords, while "eutrophication management and monitoring," "climate change," "lakes," and "remote-sensing algorithms" were the most popular research topics in recent years. Researchers are now paying increasing attention to the phenological response of phytoplankton under the conditions of climate change and the application of new remote-sensing methods. With the development of new remote-sensing technology and the expansion of phytoplankton research, future research should focus on (1) accurate observation of phytoplankton blooms; (2) the traits of phytoplankton blooms; and (3) the drivers, early warning, and management of phytoplankton blooms. In addition, we discuss the future challenges and opportunities in the use of remote sensing in phytoplankton blooms. Our review will promote a deeper and wider understanding of the field. It has several challenges, including the need to maintain its biodiversity and the need to accelerate economic development. Therefore, the mining area development and ecological community research has strong theoretical and practical significance. In this paper, we studies the Environmental Kuznets Curve, the key influencing factors in the model and a comprehensive strategy of green ecological development based on the three contradictions between environmental protection and mining development in Qinling Mountains. The result of the studies suggested that the solution of resource development, pollution control, and climate change concerns can be accomplished by employing four distinct classifications of enhanced and iterative intelligent, green, and low-carbon comprehensive technological systems. These systems are achievable through the implementation of an independence and self-enhancement strategy in advanced science and technology. Furthermore, the proposed model of Environmental Kuznets curve suggested that there are no significant effect on the sustainable development of mining industry and ecological protection. Moreover, the long-term effects of changes in the ecological and socio-economic environments on a given habitat, an assessment of the sustainability of the ecological environment is more comprehensive and systematic. The implementation of the Environmental Protection Tax Law was seriously affected by strict pandemic control. The Environmental Protection Tax Law imposed environmental taxes on enterprises based on measuring their pollution emissions to restrain their bad environmental behaviour and stimulate their green technological innovation ability. However, during the pandemic control period, the green technological innovation ability of enterprises was not developed. Therefore, it is necessary to optimize the environmental regulation effect of the environmental protection tax. This study is based on sample data covering heavily polluting enterprises in China collected from December 20, 2022, to January 7, 2023. It finds that the follow cost effect existed, but the value compensation effect obviously declined, which leading to a decline in the green technological innovation ability of heavily polluting enterprises. The study shows that although strict pandemic control maintained the environmental protection function of the environmental protection tax, it weakened the economic driving function, which will not only damage the long-term economic development potential but also make the environmental protection function unsustainable. Highly time-resolved data for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) can now be monitored. Source analyses of such high time-resolved concentrations provides key information for controlling VOC emissions. This work reviewed the literature on VOCs source analyses published from 2015 to 2021, and assesses the state-of-the-art and the existing issues with these studies. Gas chromatography system and direct-inlet mass spectrometry are the main monitoring tools. Quality control (QC) of the monitoring process is critical prior to analysis. QC includes inspection and replacement of instrument consumables, calibration curve corrections, and reviewing the data. Approximately 54% published papers lacked details on the quantitative evaluation of the effectiveness of QC measures. Among the reviewed works, the number of monitored species varied from 5 to 119, and fraction of papers with more than 90 monitored species increased yearly. US EPA PMF v5.0 was the most commonly used (∼86%) for VOC source analyses. However, conventional source apportionment directly uses the measured VOCs and may be problematic given the impacts of dispersion and photochemical losses, uncertainty setting of VOCs data, factor resolution, and factor identification. Excluding species with high-reactivity or estimation of corrected concentrations were often applied to reduce the influence of photochemical reactions on the results. However, most reports did not specify the selection criteria or the specific error fraction values in the uncertainty estimation. Model diagnostic indexes were used in 99% of the reports for PMF analysis to determine the factor resolution. Due to lack of known local source profiles, factor identification was mainly achieved using marker species and characteristic species ratios. However, multiple sources had high-collinearity and the same species were often used to identify different sources. Vehicle emissions and fuel evaporation were the primary contributors to VOCs around the world. Contribution of coal combustion in China was substantially higher than in other countries. Due to the massive use of antibiotics, antibiotics resistance genes (ARGs) are widely present in organic solid wastes (OSWs) such as livestock manure and sludge. As a common recycling technology, composting is often used to eliminate ARGs from OSWs. However, there is no bibliometric perspective on the fate of ARGs during OSWs composting to reveal the current state and future directions in this field. In this study, CiteSpace and VOSviewer were applied to count the available data from 2000 to 2021 in Web of Science to review the development and characteristics of relevant research. The results showed that the number of relevant papers and citations has increased consistently, with institutions and authors from China being the main contributors. The research belongs to the multidisciplinary with a focus on the environmental sciences ecology, and the results were mainly published in Bioresource Technology. Moreover, crucial literatures were screened to explore the framework within which the subject was constructed. Based on keyword analysis, the bacterial community was highlighted, and the research hotspots were revealed on the occurrence, affect factors including physicochemical properties, microbial community, MGEs, antibiotic, and heavy metal, and reduction strategies including exogenous additive, microbial inoculant, and improved process, as well as the spread of ARGs in soil. The Permian-Triassic transitional interval exposed well at Kangjiaping section, northwestern Hunan, South China, contains microbialites, oolitic and oncolitic limestones intercalated with vermiculate micritic limestones in the Lower Triassic overlying the uppermost Permian bioclastic limestones, which provides an excellent opportunity to study the environmental changes after the end-Permian mass extinction (EPME) and the origins and environmental significance of these various anomalous sediments. In this paper, we describe in detail the petrographic and geochemical characteristics of these anomalous sediments, together with the reconstruction of the marine environment after the EPME. The continental margin weathering was significantly enhanced after the EPME, indicated by the higher concentrations of terrigenous minerals, Th, Sc, Sr, and rare earth elements in the Lower Triassic carbonates than in the uppermost Permian bioclastic limestones. Indicators such as V/(V + Ni) and Ni/Co ratios suggest that the oxygen content of shallow seawater significantly decreased after the EPME. While, most samples from the Kangjiaping section preserve a negative cerium anomaly, indicating the shallow seawater was still oxygenated both before and after the EPME. In addition, the abnormally rapid carbonate precipitation rate indicates a supersaturation state with respect to calcium carbonate in the shallow seawater after the EPME, but the depth and salinity of seawater and climate indicated by different microfacies are still different. Under the setting of a rapid transgression after the EPME, the microbialites first deposited on the platform with the exclusion of grazers at the beginning of the Early Triassic, followed by the oncolites formed when the climate turned humid with a relative sea-level rise. The oolites were primarily deposited in an arid climate with a relative sea-level fall, and the salinity and hydrodynamics of seawater controlled the ooids' grain sizes. In contrast, the (vermiculate) micritic limestones were mainly formed in a humid climate with a relative sea-level rising and more terrigenous inputs. Ion exchange is an elegant concept whose simplicity has allowed a wide range of applications in separations (e.g., water treatment, chromatography, radiochemistry, food processing), catalysis and synthesis. The objective of this Perspective is to map its origin and present status, then propose a trajectory into the future. This is addressed with data mined from the open literature as reported in the Web of Science Core Collection (Clarivate Analytics) via a search of the keyword "ion exchange" for the period 1900–1960, then narrowed to 1941–1960, followed by subsequent 20-year periods to the present day. Data are sorted into the top ten WoS Categories, Research Areas, Publication Titles and Countries, then further defined with additional keywords. Interest in ion exchange was found to be constant across the vicennial periods as the number of references kept pace with growth in the chemical (open) literature. The period to 1960 had 1213 references with chemistry the dominant area (60.9%) and engineering at only 4.5% of the papers; resins were the dominant material with membranes a distant second. The period 1961–1980 had 5175 references with chemistry retaining its top ranking but engineering significantly increasing; resins and membranes were the primary materials while separations dominated and catalysis barely registered. There were 21,901 references in 1981–2000 with environmental science appearing as a research area for the first time; resins ended the century as they began – the primary material – but by a small margin over membranes. The 21st century (2001−2020) began with 52,187 references, chemistry held steady compared to the preceding period while engineering and materials science increased significantly and environmental science doubled its percentage, joined by water resources; membranes continued their upward trend, surpassing resins. Output from China increased to outperform the USA. In the last three years of that period, environmental science made a stronger showing and energy fuels replaced biotechnology. In comparing the vicennial periods, the rise of engineering, materials science and ecology combined with water was impressive. In comparing Research Areas in the initial period with those from the latest, it is seen that chemistry fell from 61% to 41% while engineering increased from 4% to 25%. Applications were more likely to involve membranes. Separations remained steady from the initial to the current period while catalysis moved equal to them, Examining the most cited papers in the latest period shows an emphasis on metal-organic frameworks, tailored materials, membranes for energy and environmental applications, and to an array of applications in environmental remediation. Ion exchange is applied as a preparative technique in, for example, batteries, photocatalysts, electrocatalysts, supercapacitors, and perovskite nanocrystals. The large-scale energy consumption produced by corporates in China's industrial parks has produced a large number of waste discharges. The toxic substances in these wastes have caused a certain degree of environmental pollution, which poses a threat to the living environment, health, and even life of human beings. The measurement method of corporate environmental responsibility and its application, which gradually become a significant issue, have been put forward for improving and solving the increasingly severe environmental pollution problems in industrial parks. Based on the literature review, current situation analysis, and the latest researches, this paper proposes an input-output model considering energy consumption input and unexpected output, improves the input-output model according to the requirements of corporate environmental responsibility measurement, constructs the environmental responsibility improved input-output measurement model of corporate energy consumption and pollution discharge in industrial parks, and selects Nanjing MV Industrial Park as a case to conduct the application test of measuring the corporate environmental responsibility from energy consumption and pollution discharge. The measurement results show that from 2010 to 2018, the responsibilities of energy consumption and environmental treatment, environmental improvement, and the total environment in Nanjing MV Industrial Park have been declining slowly, which shows that the corporate environmental pollution treatment effect of Nanjing MV Industrial Park has been gradually improved. Ecological research on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (QTP) has become a hotspot in recent years, and a great number of related research papers have been published. Here, a bibliometrics method was utilized to analyze 4315 papers from the Web of Science published from 1990 to 2019, and a comprehensive overview based on metrics, including the publication growth, first author' institutions and countries, research areas, international cooperation, high-impact journals and papers, and research hotspots and topics, is presented. The results revealed the following: (1) The number of published papers has grown exponentially, with China and India being the main research countries. However, China and the USA have the greatest weights in country cooperation. The Chinese Academy of Sciences has a relatively strong influence and plays the leading role in institutional cooperation. Wang Shiping, Zhang Zhenhua, Luo Caiyun, and seven other authors are highly influential. GLOBAL CHANGE BIOLOGY is the scientific journal that has published the greatest number of papers on the subject, and 'Environmental Sciences & Ecology' is the key research area; (2) Grazing, Precipitation, Soil moisture, Aboveground biomass, and Temperature are the top five core keywords. The research hotspots were mainly ecosystem services, biodiversity research, forest protection, and ecological adaptation under the background of climate change; and (3) Both new and old research topics appear in the periods 1990–1999, 2000–2009, 2010–2014, and 2015–2019, but all the periods focused on the impacts of rising temperature on natural elements, such as soil, forests, rivers, and lakes. Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) is a group of heterogeneous neurodevelopmental disorders. Evidence has implied that environmental pollutants are important factors related to ASD. In this study, several environmental endocrine-disrupting chemicals, including parabens, benzophenone-type ultraviolet filters, hydroxyl polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, triclosan and tetrabromobisphenol A were analyzed in blood plasma in ASD children (n = 34) and the control children (n = 28). The results showed that parabens were the most concentrated chemicals (2.18 ng/mL, median value), followed by hydroxyl polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (0.73 ng/mL), benzophenone-type ultraviolet filters (0.14 ng/mL), triclosan (0.13 ng/mL) and tetrabromobisphenol A (0.03 ng/mL). ASD children accumulated significantly lower 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone, 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone, 4-hydroxybenzophenone and triclosan but higher 2-hydroxyphenanthrene and tetrabromobisphenol A than the control children (0.02/0.09 ng/mL of 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone, p < 0.05; 0.04/0.07 ng/mL of 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone, p < 0.05; 0.03/0.04 ng/mL of 4-hydroxybenzophenone, p < 0.05; 0.13/1.22 ng/mL of triclosan, p < 0.01; 0.03 ng/mL/not detected of 2-hydroxyphenanthrene, p < 0.05; 0.03/0.004 ng/mL of tetrabromobisphenol A, p < 0.05). Gender differences in certain environmental endocrine-disrupting chemicals were evident, and the differences were more inclined toward boys. Positive associations between 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone and triclosan, and tetrabromobisphenol A and 2-hydroxyphenanthrene were found in ASD boys. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that the adjusted odds ratio value of 2-hydroxyphenanthrene in ASD boys was 11.0 (1.45–84.0, p < 0.05). To systematically study the environmental problems of heavy metal pollution in soils caused by antimony (Sb) smeltery in central and southern China, the pollution levels, sources and risks of heavy metals were explored based on the GIS, pollution indices, multivariate statistical methods combined with positive matrix factorization (PMF) model, and risk assessment model. The results showed the average contents of Hg, Pb, Cd, Cr, As, and Sb in soils were 0.06, 47.77, 2.88, 53.12, 21.22 and 20.53 mg/kg, respectively. Except for Hg and Cr, the contents of other metals all exceeded the background values of Hunan Mountain soil (BV). Spatial distribution of heavy metal contents and pollution indices (Igeo, PLI, and RI) indicated that above 50% of the studied area were polluted moderately by Cd and Sb, and 77% of sampling sites were under a severe ecological risk level. Multivariate statistics and PMF analysis suggested that Cd (76.9%) and As (57.7%) were mainly from agricultural activities, followed by Sb smelting (12.7% for Cd and 25% for As). The atmosphere deposition of transportation and industrial activities, antimony smelting and nature origin respectively contributed 40.6%, 20.5% and 30.7% of Hg in soils. Sb (73.9%) and Pb (54.5%) were from the Sb smelting, followed by the high geological background (35.6% for Pb and 25% for Sb). Cr (69.7%) was natural origin, but agricultural activities had 21.6% of contribution to its accumulation in soils. Significantly, the values of non-carcinogenic risk (HI) for children under three exposure pathways in different soil depths was bigger than 1 and exceeded the "acceptable level" of risk, and the total carcinogenic risks (TCR) for adults and children were exceeded 1 × 10–4 with an unacceptable carcinogenic risk for human body. Purpose: Sediments are an important archive of rich information about the natural environmental changes and human activities in the basin. Exploring the historical trends and environmental significance of nutrients in the sediments will provide a reference for the restoration of the water environment. Materials and methods: In this study, two sediment cores were collected in the northern Taihu Basin, China. Total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) values in the sediments were measured by the potassium persulfate digestion method and molybdenum-antimony spectrometry, respectively. Total organic carbon (TOC) level was analyzed by a TOC-L analyzer. The historical source of organic matter (OM) was identified by combining the C/N ratio and nitrogen isotope (δ15N). Comprehensive pollution index and organic pollution index (OI) were performed to evaluate the TN/TP pollution levels and organic pollution status of sediments, respectively. Results and discussion: The results showed that TN, TP, and TOC concentrations were 0.16–3.19 mg g−1, 0.03–0.15 mg g−1, and 1.08–37.44 mg g−1, respectively. A rising trend of TN, TP, and TOC levels was observed after the 1960s. The correlation results revealed that nutrient concentrations (TN and TP) were positively correlated with the concentration of TOC and silty sand (p ≤ 0.01), respectively. The combined C/N ratio (1.55–25.39) and δ15N value (2.96–9.96‰) reflected the increasing input of exogenous OM. The result of the pollution risk assessment showed that the standard index of TN (STN) and TP (STP) ranged from 0.30–5.79 and 0.05–0.25, respectively, and the OI fluctuated widely from 0.22 × 10–2 to 1.13, indicating that TN and TOC were the dominant control factor of sedimentary environmental quality in the study area, and N and organic pollution of sediments cannot be ignored. Conclusions: TOC and silty sand showed a great positive effect on the distribution of TN and TP. The primary source of sediment OM turned from algae and plankton to terrestrial plants since the 1940s, and soil N loss and agricultural effluent were the dominant reasons for N accumulation in the sediments. The properties and sources of soil heavy metals (Pb, Zn, Cu, Cd, As, Hg, Cr, and Ni) need to be comprehensively analyzed to take effective steps to control and reduce soil pollutants. In this research, 416 soil samples were collected on a large scale in China. Two receptor models (PCA/MLR and PMF) were utilized to identify pollutant sources and quantify the contributions. The means of soil heavy metals (Zn, Cu, As, Hg, Cr, and Ni) were lower than the corresponding screening values and intervention values. Cd was greater than the intervention value, while Pb was between the screening value and the intervention value. Source apportionments suggested that mine sources were the most polluted (64.28%), followed by traffic sources (38.98%), natural sources (11.41–39.58%), industrial sources (9.8–18.65%), and agricultural sources (2.79–14.51%). Compared to the PCA/MLR model, the PMF model had a better effect in evaluating soil heavy metal pollution. It gave corresponding weights according to the data concentration and its uncertainty, which made the result reasonable. The ecological risk assessment indicated that Cd posed a significant risk, while Hg caused a mild risk and the other six heavy metals posed a low risk. The spatial distribution of ecological risk suggested that severe risk points were mainly distributed in the central area, while high-risk points were distributed in the southern region. The SRI method was developed to link pollution sources and their potential ecological risks and indicated better applicability to the PMF model. Potential vegetation distribution is an important study in environmental sciences. We utilized the Mixed Least Squares–Total Least Squares (MLS-TLS) method and the Signal Mode Decomposition method and the Ecological Niche model to identify the inter-correlations of internal climate change factors and constructed an environmental factor response regression model. We identified the resonance periods and trend relationships among climate factors (temperature, precipitation, and evapotranspiration) and found that the evapotranspiration of the watershed interferes with the correlation between temperature and precipitation on a five-year scale. The specific change degree of extreme climate indicators in the region was quantified by the Range of Variability Approach, among which the precipitation indicators were all below 33% (low change). There were significant differences between the key bioclimatic variables and Aspect of the development of suitable vegetation habitats. The difference between the Aspect and average daily air temperature is the main contributor to the spatial distribution of vegetation, and the mutual contribution is 76.19%. Our regression model can effectively simulate the potential distribution of vegetation (r = 0.854). Compared to the MaxEnt model, our regression model can quantitatively and intuitively provide suitable habitat values for Cryptomeria fortunei at any given location in the basin. Under future scenarios (2021–2040), suitable habitat for Cryptomeria fortunei in the eastern and western regions of the basin is projected to deteriorate further. The relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning has become a central issue in any forest ecosystem. However, there are few studies on the interaction of environmental factors based on the history of subtropical forest disturbance. In this study, we intended to disentangle the relationship between different aspects of biodiversity and biomass or biomass change when considering the environmental factors of 34 subtropical forest plots in Zhejiang Province, eastern China. We used linear models to analyze the effects of taxonomic, functional and phylogenetic diversity at the plot level of tree biomass and its growth with or without environmental factors. Taxonomic diversity and functional diversity, rather than phylogenetic diversity, showed significant correlations with biomass and biomass growth. We further found that there was a positive linear relationship between biomass or biomass growth and mean annual temperature and altitude. In addition, the relationship between biomass growth and functional diversity was significantly stronger than the relationship between biomass growth and phylogenetic diversity or taxonomic diversity when environmental factors and stand developmental stages were considered. Gaseous pollutants at the ground level seriously threaten the urban air quality environment and public health. There are few estimates of gaseous pollutants that are spatially and temporally resolved and continuous across China. This study takes advantage of big data and artificial-intelligence technologies to generate seamless daily maps of three major ambient pollutant gases, i.e., NO 2 , SO 2 , and CO, across China from 2013 to 2020 at a uniform spatial resolution of 10 km. Cross-validation between our estimates and ground observations illustrated a high data quality on a daily basis for surface NO 2 , SO 2 , and CO concentrations, with mean coefficients of determination (root-mean-square errors) of 0.84 (7.99 µ g m -3), 0.84 (10.7 µ g m -3), and 0.80 (0.29 mg m -3), respectively. We found that the COVID-19 lockdown had sustained impacts on gaseous pollutants, where surface CO recovered to its normal level in China on around the 34th day after the Lunar New Year, while surface SO 2 and NO 2 rebounded more than 2 times slower due to more CO emissions from residents' increased indoor cooking and atmospheric oxidation capacity. Surface NO 2 , SO 2 , and CO reached their peak annual concentrations of 21.3 ± 8.8 µ g m -3 , 23.1 ± 13.3 µ g m -3 , and 1.01 ± 0.29 mg m -3 in 2013, then continuously declined over time by 12 %, 55 %, and 17 %, respectively, until 2020. The declining rates were more prominent from 2013 to 2017 due to the sharper reductions in anthropogenic emissions but have slowed down in recent years. Nevertheless, people still suffer from high-frequency risk exposure to surface NO 2 in eastern China, while surface SO 2 and CO have almost reached the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended short-term air quality guidelines (AQG) level since 2018, benefiting from the implemented stricter "ultra-low" emission standards. With the acceleration of urbanization, the demand for land due to urban large-scale construction and development is increasing. Coastal reclamation (CR) is a prevailing approach to tackle the contradiction between coastal land shortage and the growing demand for living space for human beings. Enormous social and economic benefits are derived from CR, while at the same time bringing a series of environmental problems. Since the beginning of the 21st century, this oceanic-oriented development has become more frequent. Therefore, the considerable economic and ecological trade-offs of reclamation activities must be analyzed to enable targeted land use decisions. By comprehensively evaluating the natural conditions of the sea area, including geology, topography, hydrology, ecology, and social and economic conditions, this study established an environmental capacity assessment system (ECAS) based on water environmental capacity for assessment of the potential environmental impact resulting from CR. According to the water quality status and positions of CR in Haizhou Bay, the environmental capacities of four major pollutants were calculated to forecast the suitable area of CR. The results indicated that these reclamation projects had notable negative effects on the environmental capacity of the four major pollutants. The order of pollutants according to their harm on seawater quality is: PO4-P > NH4-N > NOX-N > COD. In three reclamation alternative scenarios, scenario 3 led to the minimum negative impacts on the environmental capacity, scenario 2 followed, and scenario 1 had the worst result. Hence, scenario 3 was the optimal reclamation scenario, under which the suitable area of CR in Haizhou Bay was found to be 83 km2. This study provides a scientific reference for the effective management of coastal reclamation and future environmental impact research when new CR is proposed, as well as sustainable urban development. High spatial resolution PM 2.5 data covering a long time period are urgently needed to support population exposure assessment and refined air quality management. In this study, we provided complete-coverage PM 2.5 predictions with a 1 km spatial resolution from 2000 to the present under the Tracking Air Pollution in China (TAP, http://tapdata.org.cn/ , last access: 3 October 2022) framework. To support high spatial resolution modeling, we collected PM 2.5 measurements from both national and local monitoring stations. To correctly reflect the temporal variations in land cover characteristics that affected the local variations in PM 2.5 , we constructed continuous annual geoinformation datasets, including the road maps and ensemble gridded population maps, in China from 2000 to 2021. We also examined various model structures and predictor combinations to balance the computational cost and model performance. The final model fused 10 km TAP PM 2.5 predictions from our previous work, 1 km satellite aerosol optical depth retrievals, and land use parameters with a random forest model. Our annual model had an out-of-bag R2 ranging between 0.80 and 0.84, and our hindcast model had a by-year cross-validation R2 of 0.76. This open-access, 1 km resolution PM 2.5 data product, with complete coverage, successfully revealed the local-scale spatial variations in PM 2.5 and could benefit environmental studies and policymaking. We conducted a quantitative and qualitative bibliometric analysis based on 8740 research articles from the Web of Science Core Collection published in the last 20 years (2000–2020) for a better understanding of the research progress and development trend of arsenic pollution in freshwater (FAP). The results showed a significant increase in the number of publications from 2007 to 2020, especially after 2015. Four of the top 10 productive authors are from China. Two of the top three research institutions are from China, and the publications of Chinese Academy of Sciences accounted for 5.40% of the total. China is also the center of the national cooperation network, indicating a greater influence of China in this scientific research field. The top three journals included Science of the Total Environmental, Environmental Science Technology, and Journal of Hazardous Materials. Besides arsenic, the high-frequency keywords in this field included adsorption, contamination, groundwater, removal, detection, and geochemistry. The researchers mainly focused on the groundwater environment, as well as the pollution hazards of arsenic in water bodies, remediation techniques, detection, migration, and transformation. Low‐carbon development is associated with eco‐industrial parks (EIPs), but whether a causal relationship exists is unknown. A growing body of evidence from environmental engineering studies suggests that EIPs reduce carbon emissions, but few economic studies have assessed the causality, channels, and heterogeneity of this relationship. This study uses the staggered difference‐in‐difference method to construct a quasi‐natural experiment to assess the impact of national‐level EIPs on low‐carbon development. The empirical results reveal that EIPs help achieve low‐carbon development in China. Specifically, EIPs reduce the carbon intensity of the pilot cities by 7.2%. The channel analysis reveals that EIPs advance technological innovation, stimulate the Porter effect, and upgrade the industrial structure. Regional heterogeneity analysis further reveals that EIPs are more conducive to low‐carbon development in pilot cities in southern China, cities along the coast, and cities on the east of the Hu line. Further analysis shows that EIPs depress the peak of the environmental Kuznets curve and help achieve the turning point early. Moreover, this study offers fresh cases and patterns for the construction of EIPs in China. This study contributes to an in‐depth understanding of the role of EIPs in the low‐carbon transition in the largest developing country and provides inspiration for further policy optimization.
