Drug combination is a sensible strategy for disease treatment because it improves the treatment efficacy and reduces concomitant side effects. Due to the large number of possible combinations among candidate compounds, exhaustive screening is prohibitive. Currently, a large number of studies have focused on predicting potential drug combinations. However, these methods are not entirely satisfactory in terms of performance and scalability. In this paper, we proposed a Network Embedding frameWork in MultIplex Network (NEWMIN) to predict synthetic drug combinations. Based on a multiplex drug similarity network, we offered alternative methods to integrate useful information from different aspects and to decide the quantitative importance of each network. For drug combination prediction, we found seven novel drug combinations that have been validated by external sources among the top-ranked predictions of our model. To verify the feasibility of NEWMIN, we compared NEWMIN with other five methods, for which it showed better performance than other methods in terms of the area under the precision-recall curve and receiver operating characteristic curve. Accurate prediction of drug-target interactions (DTIs) through biological data can reduce the time and economic cost of drug development. The prediction method of DTIs based on a similarity network is attracting increasing attention. Currently, many studies have focused on predicting DTIs. However, such approaches do not consider the features of drugs and targets in multiple networks or how to extract and merge them. In this study, we proposed a Network EmbeDding framework in mulTiPlex networks (NEDTP) to predict DTIs. NEDTP builds a similarity network of nodes based on 15 heterogeneous information networks. Next, we applied a random walk to extract the topology information of each node in the network and learn it as a low-dimensional vector. Finally, the Gradient Boosting Decision Tree model was constructed to complete the classification task. NEDTP achieved accurate results in DTI prediction, showing clear advantages over several state-of-the-art algorithms. The prediction of new DTIs was also verified from multiple perspectives. In addition, this study also proposes a reasonable model for the widespread negative sampling problem of DTI prediction, contributing new ideas to future research. Fan noise has become an important noise component of civil aviation engines with the increasing bypass ratio. The mode identification method is the key to in-duct fan noise testing. The number of modes that can propagate through the duct increases dramatically for high-frequency in-duct fan noise, which requires a large number of microphones to measure the sound field in the duct. Since the number of modes is usually larger than the number of microphones, it is difficult to realize mode identification. A Sparse Bayesian Learning algorithm for mode identification is proposed to solve this problem in this paper. The in-duct sound field is described by a statistical model, and the inverse problem of mode identification is expressed in a Bayesian framework. The non-convex optimization problem of the cost function is considered, iteratively achieving the sparsest solution via a block coordinate descent algorithm in a majorization-minimization framework. The mode identification method based on Sparse Bayesian Learning has high sparsity and can achieve parameter adaptation. The effectiveness of the Sparse Bayesian Learning method for duct mode identification is verified by numerical simulations and experimental tests. The results show that the mode identification method of Sparse Bayesian Learning can accurately identify the target mode using fewer microphones. • Applying the Sparse Bayesian Learning (SBL) method for mode identification, the strong sparse induction performance of the SBL method is better at suppressing the non-target modes and identifying accurate sparse target modes. • The sparsest mode coefficient amplitudes are solved indirectly by estimating the hyperparameters. The optimal parameters can be determined adaptively by iterations without the need for manual selection of parameters. • It is verified through numerical simulations and experimental tests that the mode identification method of SBL can accurately identify target modes with a small number of microphones, and its results have strong sparsity and robustness. The COVID-19 pandemic has spread rapidly and significantly impacted most countries in the world. Providing an accurate forecast of COVID-19 at multiple scales would help inform public health decisions, but recent forecasting models are typically used at the state or country level. Furthermore, traditional mathematical models are limited by simplifying assumptions, while machine learning algorithms struggle to generalize to unseen trends. This motivates the need for hybrid machine learning models that integrate domain knowledge for accurate long-term prediction. We propose a three-layer, geographically informed ensemble, an extensive peer-learning framework, for predicting COVID-19 trends at the country, continent, and global levels. As the base layer, we develop a country-level predictor using a hybrid Graph Attention Network that incorporates a modified SIR model, adaptive loss function, and edge weights informed by mobility data. We aggregated 163 country GATs to train the continent and world MLP layers of the ensemble. Our results indicate that incorporating quantitatively accurate equations and real-world data to model inter-community interactions improves the performance of spatio-temporal machine learning algorithms. 2'-O-methylation (Nm) is a post-transcriptional modification of RNA that is catalyzed by 2'-O-methyltransferase and involves replacing the H on the 2′-hydroxyl group with a methyl group. The 2'-O-methylation modification site is detected in a variety of RNA types (miRNA, tRNA, mRNA, etc.), plays an important role in biological processes and is associated with different diseases. There are few functional mechanisms developed at present, and traditional high-throughput experiments are time-consuming and expensive to explore functional mechanisms. For a deeper understanding of relevant biological mechanisms, it is necessary to develop efficient and accurate recognition tools based on machine learning. Based on this, we constructed a predictor called NmRF based on optimal mixed features and random forest classifier to identify 2'-O-methylation modification sites. The predictor can identify modification sites of multiple species at the same time. To obtain a better prediction model, a two-step strategy is adopted; that is, the optimal hybrid feature set is obtained by combining the light gradient boosting algorithm and incremental feature selection strategy. In 10-fold cross-validation, the accuracies of Homo sapiens and Saccharomyces cerevisiae were 89.069 and 93.885%, and the AUC were 0.9498 and 0.9832, respectively. The rigorous 10-fold cross-validation and independent tests confirm that the proposed method is significantly better than existing tools. Despite the proven safety and clinical efficacy of the Measles vaccine, many countries are seeing new heights of vaccine hesitancy or refusal, and are experiencing a resurgence of measles infections as a consequence. With the use of novel machine learning tools, we investigated the prevailing negative sentiments related to Measles vaccination through an analysis of public Twitter posts over a 5-year period. We extracted original tweets using the search terms related to "measles" and "vaccine," and posted in English from January 1, 2017, to December 15, 2022. Of these, 155,363 tweets were identified to be negative sentiment tweets from unique individuals, through the use of Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) Named Entity Recognition and SieBERT, a pretrained sentiment in English analysis model. This was followed by topic modeling and qualitative thematic analysis performed inductively by the study investigators. A total of 11 topics were generated after applying BERTopic. To facilitate a global discussion of results, the topics were grouped into four different themes through iterative thematic analysis. These include (a) the rejection of "anti-vaxxers" or antivaccine sentiments, (b) misbeliefs and misinformation regarding Measles vaccination, (c) negative transference due to COVID-19 related policies, and (d) public reactions to contemporary Measles outbreaks. Theme 1 highlights that the current public discourse may further alienate those who are vaccine hesitant because of the disparaging language often used, while Themes 2 and 3 highlight the typology of misperceptions and misinformation underlying the negative sentiments related to Measles vaccination and the psychological tendency of disconfirmation bias. Nonetheless, the analysis was based solely on Twitter and only tweets in English were included; hence, the findings may not necessarily generalize to non-Western communities. Background: RGB photographs are a powerful tool for dynamically estimating crop growth. Leaves are related to crop photosynthesis, transpiration, and nutrient uptake. Traditional blade parameter measurements were labor-intensive and time-consuming. Therefore, based on the phenotypic features extracted from RGB images, it is essential to choose the best model for soybean leaf parameter estimation. This research was carried out to speed up the breeding procedure and provide a novel technique for precisely estimating soybean leaf parameters. Results: The findings demonstrate that using an Unet neural network, the IOU, PA, and Recall values for soybean image segmentation can achieve 0.98, 0.99, and 0.98, respectively. Overall, the average testing prediction accuracy (ATPA) of the three regression models is Random forest > Cat Boost > Simple nonlinear regression. The Random forest ATPAs for leaf number (LN), leaf fresh weight (LFW), and leaf area index (LAI) reached 73.45%, 74.96%, and 85.09%, respectively, which were 6.93%, 3.98%, and 8.01%, respectively, higher than those of the optimal Cat Boost model and 18.78%, 19.08%, and 10.88%, respectively, higher than those of the optimal SNR model. Conclusion: The results show that the Unet neural network can separate soybeans accurately from an RGB image. The Random forest model has a strong ability for generalization and high accuracy for the estimation of leaf parameters. Background: RNA 5-methyluridine (m5U) modifications are obtained by methylation at the C5 position of uridine catalyzed by pyrimidine methylation transferase, which is related to the development of human diseases. Accurate identification of m5U modification sites from RNA sequences can contribute to the understanding of their biological functions and the pathogenesis of related diseases. Compared to traditional experimental methods, computational methods developed based on machine learning with ease of use can identify modification sites from RNA sequences in an efficient and time-saving manner. Despite the good performance of these computational methods, there are some drawbacks and limitations. Results: In this study, we have developed a novel predictor, m5U-SVM, based on multi-view features and machine learning algorithms to construct predictive models for identifying m5U modification sites from RNA sequences. In this method, we used four traditional physicochemical features and distributed representation features. The optimized multi-view features were obtained from the four fused traditional physicochemical features by using the two-step LightGBM and IFS methods, and then the distributed representation features were fused with the optimized physicochemical features to obtain the new multi-view features. The best performing classifier, support vector machine, was identified by screening different machine learning algorithms. Compared with the results, the performance of the proposed model is better than that of the existing state-of-the-art tool. Conclusions: m5U-SVM provides an effective tool that successfully captures sequence-related attributes of modifications and can accurately predict m5U modification sites from RNA sequences. Typically, relationship between well logs and lithofacies is complex, which leads to low accuracy of lithofacies identification. Machine learning (ML) methods are often applied to identify lithofacies using logs labelled by rock cores. However, these methods have accuracy limits to some extent. To further improve their accuracies, practical and novel ensemble learning strategy and principles are proposed in this work, which allows geologists not familiar with ML to establish a good ML lithofacies identification model and help geologists familiar with ML further improve accuracy of lithofacies identification. The ensemble learning strategy combines ML methods as sub-classifiers to generate a comprehensive lithofacies identification model, which aims to reduce the variance errors in prediction. Each sub-classifier is trained by randomly sampled labelled data with random features. The novelty of this work lies in the ensemble principles making sub-classifiers just overfitting by algorithm parameter setting and subdataset sampling. The principles can help reduce the bias errors in the prediction. Two issues are discussed, videlicet (1) whether only a relatively simple single-classifier method can be as sub-classifiers and how to select proper ML methods as sub-classifiers; (2) whether different kinds of ML methods can be combined as sub-classifiers. If yes, how to determine a proper combination. In order to test the effectiveness of the ensemble strategy and principles for lithofacies identification, different kinds of machine learning algorithms are selected as sub-classifiers, including regular classifiers (LDA, NB, KNN, ID3 tree and CART), kernel method (SVM), and ensemble learning algorithms (RF, AdaBoost, XGBoost and LightGBM). In this work, the experiments used a published dataset of lithofacies from Daniudi gas field (DGF) in Ordes Basin, China. Based on a series of comparisons between ML algorithms and their corresponding ensemble models using the ensemble strategy and principles, conclusions are drawn: (1) not only decision tree but also other single-classifiers and ensemble-learning-classifiers can be used as subclassifiers of homogeneous ensemble learning and the ensemble can improve the accuracy of the original classifiers; (2) the ensemble principles for the introduced homogeneous and heterogeneous ensemble strategy are effective in promoting ML in lithofacies identification; (3) in practice, heterogeneous ensemble is more suitable for building a more powerful lithofacies identification model, though it is complex. Accurate prediction of energy prices is crucial to the development of energy security and environmental policies in various countries. This paper proposes a novel multi-step prediction hybrid model with genetic algorithm for variational mode decomposition, improved complete ensemble empirical modal decomposition with adaptive noise, bidirectional gated recurrent unit, temporal convolutional network, and multi-layer perceptron (GVMD-ICEEMDAN-BIGRU-TCN-MLP) for predicting carbon and natural gas futures prices. First genetic algorithm (GA) is used to fix the parameters of VMD model, the carbon and natural gas prices are decomposed into subsequences. Then the difference between the original series and the VMD after decomposition is further decomposed into subseries using ICEEMDAN. Next, the highest frequency series is predicted using the MLP model, and other subsequences are predicted using the BIGRU-TCN model. Finally, each predicted value is added linearly to determine the final result of steps 1, 3, and 5 of the entire forecasting process. According to the experimental results, it is shown that the model has lower prediction errors than the comparison model under mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), coefficient of determination (R2), and modified Diebold-Mariano test (MDM). The good prediction results of the novel hybrid model are demonstrated in multi-step ahead integrated prediction experiments, especially in the experiments with 1-step ahead prediction, as well as in the experiments with varying training ratios. • GVMD-ICEEMDAN-BIGRU-TCN-MLP model is used to forecast energy prices. • ICEEMDAN is used to further decompose the residuals. • Hierarchical prediction based on subsequence features is better. • Multi-step forecasting integrated study of energy prices. Accurate prediction of carbon price is of great significance to national energy security and climate environment policies. This paper comes up with a new forecasting model variational mode decomposition, convolutional neural network, bidirectional long short-term memory, and multi-layer perceptron (VMD–CNN–BILSTM-MLP) to predict EUA carbon futures prices in two periods of five years before and after the introduction of emission reduction policies. The parameters of the VMD model are determined by genetic algorithm (GA) firstly, carbon futures prices are broken down into subsequences of different frequencies using the model. The MLP model is then applied to predict the highest frequency sequence. The CNN-BILSTM model is applied to predict other subsequences later. Finally, the predicted values of each subsequence are linearly added to obtain the final result of the entire model. The prediction effect of the model is mainly tested by root mean squared error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), coefficient of determination (R2) and the modification of Diebold-Mariano test (MDM). In both periods, the proposed model predicts better than the other models, and the prediction effect of carbon futures price in the first five years is a little better than that in the second five years.
