The 2017 M w 6.3 Jinghe earthquake occurred in the orogenic zone of the North Tianshan mountain range, Xinjiang, western China. No evident surface rupture was identified by field investigation conducted immediately after the earthquake. We investigate the coseismic and post-seismic deformation fields due to the Jinghe event using the C-band Sentinel-1 SAR imagery, and further analyse its causative fault. The Generic Atmospheric Correction Online Service for InSAR (GACOS) model is employed to remove the atmospheric phase delay of multiple InSAR deformation maps. Coseismic deformation fields are resolved by averaging the high quality deformation maps. A nonlinear inversion scheme is used to find the optimized fault geometry in a layered elastic crust. The results imply that the Jinghe earthquake is characterized by thrust faulting, with striking and dipping angles of ∼62° and ∼28°, respectively. Subsequently coseismic slip distribution is estimated using the steepest descent method program, constrained by the derived coseismic deformation fields. The inversion results show that the average slip is ∼0.08 m and the average rake angle is ∼98°. The maximum slip is ∼0.24 m, located at the depth of 12.9 km. The moment magnitude is estimated to be M w 6.38. The fault geometry is generally consistent with the relocated aftershocks distribution. Both the InSAR-derived deformation field and the aftershock distribution indicate that the Jinghe earthquake is attributed to a previously unknown buried fault beneath the Yongji fold with a strike of 62°. No significant post-seismic deformation is identified in the zone of coseismic deformation. This study shows that the Jinghe earthquake is a typical inland thrust event in the North Tianshan area, which is affected by south to north compression due to the Indian-Eurasian collision. Understanding the impacts and extent of both climate change and human activities on ecosystems is crucial to sustainable development. With low anti-interference ability, arid and semi-arid ecosystems are particularly sensitive to disturbances from both climate change and human activities. We investigated how and to what extent climate variation and human activities influenced major indicators that are related to ecosystem functions and conditions in the past decades in Xinjiang, a typical arid and semi-arid region in China. We analyzed the changing trends of evapotranspiration (ET), gross primary productivity (GPP) and leaf area index (LAI) derived from the Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite product and the Breathing Earth System Simulator (BESS) model in Xinjiang for different climate zones. We separated and quantified the contributions of climate forcing and human activities on the trends of the studied ecosystem indicators using the residual analysis method for different climate zones in Xinjiang. The results show that GPP and LAI increased and ET decreased from 2001 to 2015 in Xinjiang. Factors that dominate the changes in ecosystem indicators vary considerably across different climate zones. Precipitation plays a positive role in impacting vegetation indicators in arid and hyper-arid zones and temperature has a negative correlation with both GPP and LAI in hyper-arid zones in Xinjiang. Results based on residual analysis indicate that human activities could account for over 72% of variation in the changes in each ecosystem indicator. Human activities have large impacts on each vegetation indicator change in hyper-arid and arid zones and their relative contribution has a mean value of 79%. This study quantifies the roles of climate forcing and human activities in the changes in ecosystem indicators across different climate zones, suggesting that human activities largely influence ecosystem processes in the arid and semi-arid regions of Xinjiang in China. In a survey in 2020, Salix babylonica trees displaying symptoms of phyllody, little leaves, and dieback were observed in Xinjiang province of China. Nested PCRs carried out using universal primer pairs for 16 S rRNA and tuf genes, detected the presence of phytoplasmas in symptomatic trees, while no amplification was found in symptomless trees. Blastn and phylogenetic analyses showed that detected phytoplasmas belong to the species 'Candidatus Phytoplasma ziziphi', ribosomal subgroup 16SrV-B. This is the first report of S. babylonica as plant host of 'Ca. Phytoplasma ziziphi', associated with phyllody disease in China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
