Abstract

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is one of the most common bacterial infections in the world, and its key virulence component CagA is the leading cause of gastric cancer. Mitophagy is a form of selective autophagy that eliminates damaged mitochondria and is essential for some viruses and bacteria to evade the immune system. However, the mechanisms by which CagA mediates H. pylori-induced mitophagy and NLRP3 inflammasome activation remain elusive. In this study, we reported that H. pylori primarily uses its CagA to induce mitochondrial oxidative damage, mitochondrial dysfunction, dynamic imbalance, and to block autophagic flux. Inhibition of mitophagy led to an increase in NLRP3 inflammasome activation and apoptosis and a decrease in the viability of H. pylori-infected cells. Our findings suggested that H. pylori induces mitochondrial dysfunction and mitophagy primarily via CagA. It reduces NLRP3 inflammasome activation to evade host immune surveillance and increases the survival and viability of infected cells, potentially leading to gastric cancer initiation and development. Our findings provide new insights into the pathogenesis of H. pylori-induced gastric cancer, and inhibition of mitophagy may be one of the novel techniques for the prevention and treatment of this disease. Abstract

Currently, cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide, and potential targeted drugs and molecular pathways for cancer development and progression have been a hot research topic worldwide. In recent years, the importance of the kinase superfamily in diseases has been well demonstrated by studies on various molecular mechanisms of kinases and the successful application of their inhibitors in diseases. Pseudokinases are members of the kinase superfamily, which have been increasingly documented to play a crucial role in cancers year after year. As a member of pseudokinases, tribbles homolog 3 (TRIB3) also exerts diverse functions in different cancers through different interacting proteins and molecular pathways, especially in tumor immunity, stemness, drug resistance, metabolism, and autophagy. In addition, peptide drugs targeting TRIB3 have high specificity in preclinical studies, which shows great promise for TRIB3 application in diseases including cancers. In this review, we dissect diverse functions played by TRIB3 in different cancers, describing the underlying mechanisms in detail. Abstract

Unreliable feature extraction and matching in handcrafted features undermine the performance of visual SLAM in complex real-world scenarios. While learned local features, leveraging CNNs, demonstrate proficiency in capturing high-level information and excel in matching benchmarks, they encounter challenges in continuous motion scenes, resulting in poor generalization and impacting loop detection accuracy. To address these issues, we present DK-SLAM, a monocular visual SLAM system with adaptive deep local features. MAML optimizes the training of these features, and we introduce a coarse-to-fine feature tracking approach. Initially, a direct method approximates the relative pose between consecutive frames, followed by a feature matching method for refined pose estimation. To counter cumulative positioning errors, a novel online learning binary feature-based online loop closure module identifies loop nodes within a sequence. Abstract

The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River (MLYR) frequently experience extreme precipitation events (EPEs) during June and July, the so-called Meiyu season. This study investigated EPEs in the MLYR during Meiyu seasons over 1961–2022, using rain gauge observations and ERA5 reanalysis data. EPEs associated with the Northeast China cold vortex featured more undulating westerlies with a distinct wave train pattern from Europe to Northeast Asia. Due to robust Rossby wave energy, the trough deepened from Northeast China towards the MLYR and was confronted with a westward extension of the western Pacific subtropical high. Such a configuration enhanced the warm and moist monsoon conveyor belt and convergence of water vapor flux from southwestern China to the MLYR. The warm and moist air favored upward motion. The increased rainfall prevailed from southwestern China to the MLYR. In contrast, ordinary EPEs were characterized by zonal westerlies and weaker Rossby wave propagation. The Meiyu trough was comparatively shallow and confined to the MLYR with less westward expansion of the subtropical high. Abstract

Abrasive machining processes have long been integral to various manufacturing industries, enabling precise material removal and surface finishing. In recent years, the integration of non-Newtonian fluids has emerged as a promising strategy to enhance the performance and efficiency of these processes. This review paper provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of research on abrasive machining processes, including abrasive lapping, abrasive polishing, and chemical mechanical polishing, and then analyzes in detail the abrasive machining processes enhanced with non-Newtonian fluids. It explores the fundamental principles underlying the rheological behavior of non-Newtonian fluids and their application in abrasive machining, with a focus on shear-thickening fluids. The paper will begin by introducing the abrasive machining processes, including abrasive lapping, abrasive polishing, and chemical mechanical polishing. Then, the current research status of non-Newtonian fluids will be comprehensively analyzed, and we will explore the enhancement of abrasive machining processes with non-Newtonian fluids.
