In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden die Auswirkungen der Motorkühlluft auf den aerodynamischen Widerstand von Kraftfahrzeugen am Beispiel eines Golf 7 analysiert. Hierzu werden Untersuchungen im Windkanal der Volkswagen AG sowie numerische Strömungssimulationen basierend auf der Lattice-Boltzmann-Methode (LBM) durchgeführt. Im Vorfeld ist es erforderlich, das eingesetzte Simulationsprogramm (PowerFlow) sowie das Simulations-Set-up dahingehend zu überprüfen und zu ertüchtigen, dass es die im Windkanal gemessenen Werte mit der geforderten Genauigkeit wiedergibt. Zum Abgleich der Simulationsergebnisse werden neben Druck- und Kühlluftmassenstrommessungen auch umfangreiche Untersuchungen mittels Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) durchgeführt. Neben den Windkanalversuchen mit dem Versuchsfahrzeug wird auch das Strömungsfeld der leeren Messstrecke mittels PIV untersucht. Des Weiteren wird der Vorderwagen inklusive Motorraum eingescannt und mit dem Simulationsmodell verglichen, um die Übereinstimmung der Simulationsergebnisse mit den Messwerten aus den Windkanalversuchen zu verbessern. Auf Grundlage von Mess- und Scandaten des Fahrzeugs wird das Simulations-Set-up so angepasst, dass die geforderte Übereinstimmung der experimentellen und numerischen Ergebnisse gegeben ist. Durch die Analyse der Fahrzeugströmung kann bei verschlossenen Kühlluftöffnungen ein Rückströmungseffekt ermittelt werden, der die Bestimmung des Kühlluftwiderstandes basierend auf der Differenz der Luftwiderstände mit und ohne Kühlluft infrage stellt. Im Weiteren werden die Hauptströmungspfade der Kühlluft lokalisiert und eine theoretische Betrachtung der Kühlluftauswirkungen durchgeführt, um zu bestimmen, an welchen Stellen der Kühlluftwiderstand beeinflusst werden kann. Resultierend daraus werden die drei Bereiche Kühllufteinlass, Kühlluftauslass in die Radhäuser und in den Unterboden identifiziert, in denen eine positive Beeinflussung des Kühlluftwiderstandes möglich ist. Als Ergebnis dieser Analysen wird eine leckagefreie Kühlluftführung mit reduzierten Kühllufteinlassflächen umgesetzt. Des Weiteren wird die Kühlluft über neu entwickelte Luftauslässe im Radhaus und Unterboden der Umströmung zugeführt. Mit diesen Maßnahmen kann im Windkanalversuch der cW-Wert des Golf 7 in Summe um ΔcW = 0,025 und der Kühlluftwiderstand um 60 % gesenkt werden., In this study, the effects of engine cooling air on the aerodynamic drag of motor vehicles are analysed using the example of a Golf 7. For this purpose, investigations in the Volkswagen AG wind tunnel and numerical flow simulations based on the Lattice-Boltzmann method (LBM) are carried out. Beforehand, the simulation programme (PowerFlow) and the simulation set-up have to be checked and enabled to display the values measured in the wind tunnel with the required accuracy. In addition to pressure and cooling air mass flow measurements, extensive investigations using particle image velocimetry (PIV) are carried out to compare the simulation results. In addition to the wind tunnel tests with the test vehicle, the flow field of the empty test section is examined using PIV. Furthermore, the front end of the vehicle, including the engine compartment, is scanned and compared with the simulation model in order to improve the agreement between the simulation results and the measured values from the wind tunnel tests. Based on the measured and scanned data of the vehicle, the simulation set-up is adapted in such a way that the required agreement between the experimental and numerical results is given. By analysing the vehicle flow, a backflow effect can be determined with closed cooling air inlets, what calls the determination of the cooling air resistance based on the difference of the air drags with and without cooling air into question. Moreover, the main flow paths of the cooling air are localised and a theoretical consideration of the cooling air effects is carried out in order to determine at which points the cooling air drag can be influenced. As a result, the three areas of cooling air inlet, cooling air outlet into the wheel arches and into the underbody are identified where a positive influence on the cooling air drag is possible. Based on of these analyses, a leakage-free cooling air duct with reduced cooling air inlet areas is implemented. Furthermore, the cooling air is fed to the air flow via newly developed air outlets in the wheel arch and underbody. With these measures, the cW value of the Golf 7 can be reduced by a total of ΔcW = 0,025 and the cooling air drag by 60 % in the wind tunnel test.

Single-Photon Avalanche Diode-based Direct Time of Flight systems are currently attracting much attention due to the need for optical systems with high temporal and spatial resolution, high frame rates, range, and high ambient light rejection for autonomous driving applications. Within the scope of this thesis, methods aiming to detect targets under high ambient light power are evaluated. Different pixel structures are considered, and the Signal-to-Noise Ratio derived as a measure of their performance. On this basis, a novel comparison between commercially available Avalanche Photodiode and Single-Photon Avalanche Diodes is conducted. It shows the latter’s advantages when only small return signals are present. The theoretical predictions are then investigated with numerical simulation and verified using available research prototype systems. With high frame rate and long range come small signal photon budgets. A rank-order filter-based signal processing chain for detecting faint return signal is investigated and compared to proven correlation-based approaches. It is shown that while the rank-order filters show excellent background light rejection, the signal is attenuated aggressively, limiting their usefulness in long-range ranging applications. Strong return signals distort the recorded pulse distribution and limit accuracy. An approach for computationally correcting this accuracy deterioration from the measurement result for a given temporal laser pulse form is designed with a view to hardware integration. It can be corrected for signal peak event rates of up to 0.2 GHz. The investigations result in a developed sensor control algorithm based on analysis of the recorded signal strength which yields high frame rates in low ambient light scenarios and high range in high ambient light scenarios. A range increase of up to 20% over systems without an active control algorithm can be shown, increasing to up to 700% for systems without active ambient light suppression., Single-Photon Avalanche Diode-basierte Direct Time of Flight-Systeme genießen derzeit große Aufmerksamkeit, da für Anwendungen im Bereich des autonomen Fahrens optische Systeme mit hoher zeitlicher und räumlicher Auflösung, hohen Bildraten, Reichweite und Fremdlichtunterdrückung benötigt werden. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit werden Methoden zur Objekterfassung bei hoher eingestrahlter optischer Fremdlichtleistung evaluiert. Es werden verschiedene Pixelstrukturen betrachtet und der Signal-Rauschabstand als Maß für ihre Leistungsfähigkeit berechnet. Auf dieser Grundlage wird ein neuartiger Vergleich zwischen kommerziell erhältlichen Avalanche Photodioden und Single-Photon Avalanche Dioden durchgeführt. Letztere sind vorteilhaft, wenn nur eine geringe rückgestrahlte optische Leistung zur Verfügung steht. Die theoretischen Vorhersagen werden anschließend mit numerischen Simulationen untersucht und mit verfügbaren Forschungsprototypen verifiziert. Durch die hohen Anforderungen an Reichweite und Bildrate stehen den Systemen oftmals nur eine niedrige Zahl an Signalphotonen zur Verfügung. Eine auf Rangordnungsfiltern basierende Signalverarbeitungskette wird untersucht und mit bewährten korrelationsbasierten Ansätzen verglichen. Es zeigt sich, dass die Rangordnungsfilter zwar zu einer hervorragenden Unterdrückung des Hintergrundlichts führen, das Signal jedoch stark abgeschwächt wird, was ihre Nützlichkeit für Anwendungen im Fernbereich einschränkt. Eine hohe Signalstärke verzerrt das aufgezeichnete Messergebnis und verringert die Messgenauigkeit. Ein Ansatz zur rechnerischen Korrektur dieses Genauigkeitsfehlers aus dem Messergebnis für eine gegebene Laserpulsform wird im Hinblick auf ihre Hardware-Integrierbarkeit untersucht und entwickelt. Mit ihr kann die Messwertverschiebung für Ereignisraten von bis zu 0.2 GHz korrigiert werden. Die Untersuchungen münden in einem entwickelten Algorithmus, der auf der Analyse der aufgenommenen Signalstärke basiert. Er ermöglicht hohe Bildraten bei schwachem Umgebungslicht und eine hohe Reichweite bei starkem Umgebungslicht. Es kann eine Reichweitensteigerung von bis zu 20% gegenüber Systemen ohne aktiven Kontrollalgorithmus gezeigt werden, die sich bei Systemen ohne Fremdlichtunterdrückung auf bis zu 700% erhöht.

Conventionally, the transmission and the reception of signals in a particular wireless communication system is performed using the half-duplex method, wherein the transmitter and the receiver signals are either time-multiplexed or frequency-multiplexed. However, in case of an in-band full-duplex system, the bidirectional communication of signals is performed simultaneously in the same frequency band, which improves the spectral efficiency of these systems by a factor of two as compared to the traditional half-duplex systems. Therefore, the in-band full-duplex communication systems can double the data rate provided by the half-duplex communication systems, thereby making the former a matter of interest across the wireless research community. However, the in-band full-duplex systems have theirownset of disadvantages. The major challenge is the self-interference imposed by the high-power transmitter signal on the incoming low-power receiver signal, which further degrades the latter and negatively impacts its estimation. Out of the various methodologies to mitigate the self-interference from the receiver signal, this work focuses on the digital self-interference cancellation techniques. In this thesis, the effects of the self-interference signal on the receiver signal are examined. Furthermore, the different digital self-interference cancellation methods employed for suppressing the self-interference are comparatively analysed. Finally, the field-programmable gate array based implementation of the various digital self-interference cancellation algorithms and their respective performance results are presented as well.

The ubiquitous digital transformation also influences power system operation. Emerging real-time applications in information (IT) and operational technology (OT) provide new opportunities to address the increasingly demanding power system operation imposed by the progressing energy transition. This IT/OT convergence is epitomised by the novel Digital Twin (DT) concept. By integrating sensor data into analytical models and aligning the model states with the observed system, a power system DT can be created. As a result, a validated high-fidelity model is derived, which can be applied within the next generation of energy management systems (EMS) to support power system operation. By providing a consistent and maintainable data model, the modular DT-centric EMS proposed in this work addresses several key requirements of modern EMS architectures. It increases the situation awareness in the control room, enables the implementation of model maintenance routines, and facilitates automation approaches, while raising the confidence into operational decisions deduced from the validated model. This gain in trust contributes to the digital transformation and enables a higher degree of power system automation. By considering operational planning and power system operation processes, a direct link to practice is ensured. The feasibility of the concept is examined by numerical case studies., The electrical power system is in the process of an extensive transformation. Driven by the energy transition towards renewable energy resources, many conventional power plants in Germany have already been decommissioned or will be decommissioned within the next decade. Among other things, these changes lead to an increased utilisation of power transmission equipment, and an increasing number of complex dynamic phenomena. The resulting system operation closer to physical boundaries leads to an increased susceptibility to disturbances, and to a reduced time span to react to critical contingencies and perturbations. In consequence, the task to operate the power system will become increasingly demanding. As some reactions to disturbances may be required within timeframes that exceed human capabilities, these developments are intrinsic drivers to enable a higher degree of automation in power system operation. This thesis proposes a framework to create a modular Digital Twin-centric energy management system. It enables the provision of validated and trustworthy models built from knowledge about the power system derived from physical laws, and process data. As the interaction of information and operational technologies is combined in the concept of the Digital Twin, it can serve as a framework for future energy management systems including novel applications for power system monitoring and control, which consider power system dynamics. To provide a validated high-fidelity dynamic power system model, time-synchronised phasor measurements of high-resolution are applied for validation and parameter estimation. This increases the trust into the underlying power system model as well as the confidence into operational decisions derived from advanced analytic applications such as online dynamic security assessment. By providing an appropriate, consistent, and maintainable data model, the framework addresses several key requirements of modern energy management system architectures, while enabling the implementation of advanced automation routines and control approaches. Future energy management systems can provide an increased observability based on the proposed architecture, whereby the situational awareness of human operators in the control room can be improved. In further development stages, cognitive systems can be applied that are able to learn from the data provided, e.g., machine learning based analytical functions. Thus, the framework enables a higher degree of power system automation, as well as the deployment of assistance and decision support functions for power system operation pointing towards a higher degree of automation in power system operation. The framework represents a contribution to the digital transformation of power system operation and facilitates a successful energy transition. The feasibility of the concept is examined by case studies in form of numerical simulations to provide a proof of concept., Das elektrische Energiesystem befindet sich in einem umfangreichen Transformations-prozess. Durch die voranschreitende Energiewende und den zunehmenden Einsatz erneuerbarer Energieträger sind in Deutschland viele konventionelle Kraftwerke bereits stillgelegt worden oder werden in den nächsten Jahren stillgelegt. Diese Veränderungen führen unter anderem zu einer erhöhten Betriebsmittelauslastung sowie zu einer verringerten Systemträgheit und somit zu einer zunehmenden Anzahl komplexer dynamischer Phänomene im elektrischen Energiesystem. Der Betrieb des Systems näher an den physikalischen Grenzen führt des Weiteren zu einer erhöhten Störanfälligkeit und zu einer verkürzten Zeitspanne, um auf kritische Ereignisse und Störungen zu reagieren. Infolgedessen wird die Aufgabe, das Stromnetz zu betreiben anspruchsvoller. Insbesondere dort wo Reaktionszeiten erforderlich sind, welche die menschlichen Fähigkeiten übersteigen sind die zuvor genannten Veränderungen intrinsische Treiber hin zu einem höheren Automatisierungsgrad in der Netzbetriebs- und Systemführung. Aufkommende Echtzeitanwendungen in den Informations- und Betriebstechnologien und eine zunehmende Menge an hochauflösenden Sensordaten ermöglichen neue Ansätze für den Entwurf und den Betrieb von cyber-physikalischen Systemen. Ein vielversprechender Ansatz, der in jüngster Zeit in diesem Zusammenhang diskutiert wurde, ist das Konzept des so genannten Digitalen Zwillings. Da das Zusammenspiel von Informations- und Betriebstechnologien im Konzept des Digitalen Zwillings vereint wird, kann es als Grundlage für eine zukünftige Leitsystemarchitektur und neuartige Anwendungen der Leittechnik herangezogen werden. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird ein Framework entwickelt, welches einen Digitalen Zwilling in einer neuartigen modularen Leitsystemarchitektur für die Aufgabe der Überwachung und Steuerung zukünftiger Energiesysteme zweckdienlich einsetzbar macht. In Ergänzung zu den bereits vorhandenen Funktionen moderner Netzführungssysteme unterstützt das Konzept die Abbildung der Netzdynamik auf Basis eines dynamischen Netzmodells. Um eine realitätsgetreue Abbildung der Netzdynamik zu ermöglichen, werden zeitsynchrone Raumzeigermessungen für die Modellvalidierung und Modellparameterschätzung herangezogen. Dies erhöht die Aussagekraft von Sicherheitsanalysen, sowie das Vertrauen in die Modelle mit denen operative Entscheidungen generiert werden. Durch die Bereitstellung eines validierten, konsistenten und wartbaren Datenmodells auf der Grundlage von physikalischen Gesetzmäßigkeiten und während des Betriebs gewonnener Prozessdaten, adressiert der vorgestellte Architekturentwurf mehrere Schlüsselan-forderungen an moderne Netzleitsysteme. So ermöglicht das Framework einen höheren Automatisierungsgrad des Stromnetzbetriebs sowie den Einsatz von Entscheidungs-unterstützungsfunktionen bis hin zu vertrauenswürdigen Assistenzsystemen auf Basis kognitiver Systeme. Diese Funktionen können die Betriebssicherheit erhöhen und stellen einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Umsetzung der digitalen Transformation des Stromnetzbetriebs, sowie zur erfolgreichen Umsetzung der Energiewende dar. Thermoelectric (TE) technology has the ability to convert heat into electricity and is therefore attractive in the context of the search for new green energy sources. The aim of this thesis is to successfully build, characterize and model eco-friendly TE generators (TEG) made of p- and n-type Mg2(Si,Sn) TE materials. The TE materials are already well-researched but a compatible electrode, electrically interconnecting the TE elements, is missing on the road towards a TEG. Moderately satisfying electrodes were reported in literature, but lacked chemical or mechanical stability. In this work, we find Al to be a promising electrode for Mg2(Si,Sn): we report no cracking nor delamination, a stable interface through annealing and contact resistivities below 10 μΩcm² and stable TE materials directly after joining. This is an essential milestone towards the TEG. We then successfully build and characterize a full Mg2(Si,Sn)-based TEG. The first efficiency measurement of such a module is reported and we measure a high power density of 0.9 W/cm². We combine the TEG characterization with an analysis based on constant property model (CPM) to identify loss mechanisms. An increase of the inner resistance of the TEG, attributed to cracking due to high thermal stress, is observed. It is predicted that both efficiency and power output could be realistically increased by 30% solely by preventing this cracking. Finally, we test the hypothesis that the TEG mechanical failure is due to the ceramic plate by using an open module design with bare Cu bridges. Additional voltage probes are soldered to monitor the resistance of each leg during the measurement. This innovative approach consistently shows that the resistance of the n-type legs systematically increases even at low temperatures. It is found that increasing the cross-section of the legs solves the issue when the hot side temperature remains below 300 °C; suggestions for even further improvement are given. Overall, we identify the first truly promising electrode for Mg 2(Si,Sn) and use it to successfully build one of the first eco-friendly Mg2(Si,Sn)-based TEGs. We report the first efficiency measurement for such a module and implement a different design to improve the performance. Das große Bauvolumen aktueller industrieller dreiphasiger Zweilevel-Netzumrichter und die damit verbundene geringe Leistungsdichte wird hauptsächlich durch den notwendigen EMV-Filter hervorgerufen. Aktuelle Veröffentlichungen zur Flying-Capacitor-Multilevel-Topologie zeigen das enorme Potential dieser Topologie im Hinblick auf kompakte EMV-Filter und eine damit verbundene hohe Leistungsdichte des gesamten Umrichters. Auf Basis der benötigten Komponenten eines solchen Umrichters wird zunächst eine Monte-Carlo Optimierung angefertigt. Die Ergebnisse dieser Optimierung zeigen einen Bereich für die elektrischen Parameter auf, in welchem eine größtmögliche Leistungsdichte und Effizienz für diesen Umrichter erzielt werden kann. Beruhend auf den Ergebnissen werden unterschiedlichste Hardwareprototypen, startend von der einzelnen Kommutierungszelle bis hin zum dreiphasigen Umrichter, vorgestellt. Untersuchungen an diesen Prototypen zeigen, dass es für die hohen resultierenden Schaltfrequenzen des dargestellten Umrichters noch einige unerforschte Effekte gibt. Diese beruhen zum Teil auf kleinsten parasitären Komponenten der Leiterplatte, oder der verwendeten Bauteile und können die Ausgangskennlinien des Umrichters stark beeinträchtigen. Mittels einer Simulation des Umrichters am Netz wird zudem validiert, dass ein solcher Umrichter mit einem dynamischen geschlossenen Regelkreis, wie er in Zweilevel-Umrichtern eingesetzt wird, betrieben werden kann. Überdies werden die typischen Betriebsbedingungen eines industriellen Umrichters theoretisch betrachtet, simuliert und validiert. Die Ergebnisse dieser Arbeit zeigen, dass die Topologie des Flying-Capacitor-Multilevel-Umrichters in Kombination mit GaN-Schaltern zu einer Verbesserung der Leistungsdichte, der Verluste und der Dynamik jeweils um Faktoren führen kann., The volume of industrial three-phase two level grid connected inverters suffers from large EMI filters which harm the overall power density. Recent publications based on the flying capacitor multilevel topology show the tremendous potential of this topology for compact EMI filters and a high resulting power density of the whole inverter. The results of this work show how such a flying capacitor multilevel inverter could look like for an industrial low voltage application. In the first section of this work the required components and a monte carlo optimization of such an inverter are presented. The outcome of this optimization shows a feasible area of electrical parameters which lead to the highest possible power density and inverter efficiency. Based on these results different hardware prototypes starting from a commutation cell up to a three phase inverter where designed. Investigations at these prototypes show that there are still several unexplored effects for the high resulting switching frequency of these prototypes. These effects are often based on smallest parasitics of the printed circuit board or attached electrical components. These small parasitics can have a huge impact on the output waveform of the inverter. It is also validated by a simulation that it is possible to operate such a grid connected inverter with a dynamic closed loop control used conventional in two level inverters. In addition, the typical operation conditions of an industrial inverter are theoretical investigated, simulated and validated. The results of this work show that the flying capacitor topology in combination with GaN switches could lead to an enhanced power density, reduced losses, and increased dynamic by factors.

Based on the characterization of realistic radio channels, results presented in this dissertation lead towards an understanding that when moving up to the higher frequencies, frequency itself does not play a significant role in defining the channel modeling methodology. In fact, how a propagation channel is illuminated is of fundamental importance. Therefore, millimeter wave (mmWave) system properties such as a high antenna directivity and system bandwidth are shown to have a great influence on the channel model definition. In this thesis, a fundamental assumption made in the state-of-the-art millimeter wave wireless channel models is challenged. It has been shown that Rayleigh-Rice fading assumption made in the state-of-the-art channel models for resolvable channel taps does not remain valid. This is mainly due to the sparse multipath illumination caused by high antenna directivity and high bandwidth of a mmWave system., Studies presented in this thesis are based on the characterization of realistic radio channels obtained from exhaustive channel sounding campaigns. Mainly, three fundamental problems of wireless channel modelling have been investigated for millimetre wave (mmWave) radio channel modelling application, namely (i) Frequency dependence of propagation, (ii) Impact of antenna directivity on the channel model definition, and (iii) Impact of system bandwidth on the radio channel modelling. A detailed description of these problems is as follows: (i) Frequency Dependence of Propagation. Multi-band measurement campaigns arecarried out using directional antennas which do an omni-directional scan of the propagation environment. During the measurements, Tx-Rx systems are placed at fixed positions and the propagation environment remained as static as possible. Using synthesized omni-directional power delay profiles (PDPs), we aim to investigate if there exists a frequency dependency in the multipath dispersion statistics, e.g. delay and angular spreads. (ii) Impact of Antenna Directivity on the Channel Model Definition. Small-scale fading measurements are carried out which emulate a scenario, where a radio communication link is established through a single multipath cluster which is illuminated using antennas with different Half Power Beam Widths (HPBW). The major goal here is to investigate the impact of spatial multipath filtering on the small-scale fading due to high antenna directivity. In particular, the impact on variations in the receive signal strength and the validity of narrowband wide-sense stationary assumption (both in time and frequency domains) is investigated. (iii) Impact of System Bandwidth on the Radio Channel Modelling. Small-scale fading measurements are used to illuminate multipath clusters in a lecture room scenario. The primary objective is to investigate the impact of high system bandwidth on variations in the receive signal strength, randomness in the cross-polarization power ratio (XPR) and richness of the multipath scattering. Based on the characterization of realistic radio channels, results presented in this dissertation lead towards an understanding that when moving up to the higher frequencies, frequency itself does not play a significant role in defining the channel modelling methodology. In fact, how a propagation channel is illuminated is of fundamental importance. Therefore, mmWave system properties such as a high antenna directivity and system bandwidth are shown to have a high influence on the channel model definition. In general, fade depth scaling as a function of system bandwidth is quite well understood. We demonstrate that, the high antenna directivity of mmWave systems result in a further reduction in the fading depth. In addition, we explore some new directions to this line of research which are based on the second-order statistical analysis of the channel impulse response (CIR) vector. Our results emphasize that, fading statistics of resolvable channel taps in a mmWave radio channel cannot be modelled as Rayleigh-Rice distributed random variables. This is primarily due to the fact that channels with sparse scattering conditions are illuminated due to high antenna directivity and bandwidth of mmWave systems. Consequently, the complex Gaussian random variable assumption associated with Rayleigh-Rice fading distributions does not remain valid. Further, it has been demonstrated that, high antenna directivity and bandwidth of mmWave systems also raise a question mark on the validity of wide-sense stationary (WSS) assumption in the slow-time domain of mmWave radio channels. Results presented in this contribution are novel and they provide theoretically consistent insights into the measured radio channel., In dieser Arbeit werden drei grundlegende Probleme der Modellierung von Drahtloskanalen fur die Anwendung bei der Funkkanalmodellierung im Millimeterwellenbereich (mmWave) untersucht, namlich (i) die Frequenzabhangigkeit der Ausbreitung, (ii) der Einfluss der Antennenrichtwirkung auf die Definition des Kanalmodells und (iii) der Einfluss der Systembandbreite auf die Funkkanalmodellierung. Die detaillierte Beschreibung dieser Probleme lautet wie folgt: (i) Frequenzabhangigkeit der Ausbreitung. Mehrband-Messkampagnen werden mitRichtantennen durchgefuhrt, die eine omnidirektionale Abtastung der Ausbreitungsumgebung vornehmen. Wahrend der Messungen werden die Tx-Rx-Systeme an festen Positionen platziert und die Ausbreitungsumgebung bleibt so statisch wie moglich. Mit Hilfe von synthetisierten omnidirektionalen Verzogerungs-Leistungsprofilen soll untersucht werden, ob es eine Frequenzabhangigkeit in der Mehrwegeausbreitungsstatistik gibt, z.B. in der Verzogerung und der Winkelspreizung. (ii) Einfluss der Antennenrichtwirkung auf die Definition des Kanalmodells. Es werden Messungen des schnellen Schwunds durchgefuhrt, die ein Szenario emulieren, bei dem eine Funkverbindung uber ein einzelnes Mehrwege-Cluster aufgebaut wird, das mit Antennen mit unterschiedlichen Strahlbreiten ausgeleuchtet wird. Das Hauptzielist hier die Untersuchung des Einflusses der raumlichen Filterung auf den schnellen Schwund aufgrund der hohen Antennenrichtwirkung. Insbesondere wird die Auswirkung auf Variationen der Empfangssignalstarke und die Gultigkeit der Annahme der schmalbandigen Stationaritat im weiteren Sinne (sowohl im Zeit- als auch im Frequenzbereich) untersucht. (iii) Einfluss der Systembandbreite auf die Funkkanalmodellierung. Messungen desschnellen Schwunds werden verwendet, um Mehrwege-Cluster in einem Horsaal-Szenario auszuleuchten. Das primare Ziel ist es, den Einfluss einer hohen Systembandbreite auf die Variationen der Empfangssignalstarke, die Zufalligkeit des Kreuzpolarisationsverhaltnisses und die Reichhaltigkeit der Mehrwegstreuung zu untersuchen. Basierend auf der Charakterisierung realistischer Funkkanäle führen die in dieser Dissertation vorgestellten Ergebnisse zu dem Verständnis, dass beim Ubergang zu höheren Frequenzen die Frequenz x selbst keine signifikante Rolle bei der Definition der Kanalmodellierungsmethodik spielt. Vielmehr ist es von grundlegender Bedeutung, wie ein Ausbreitungskanal ausgeleuchtet wird. Daher zeigt sich, dass mmWave-Systemeigenschaften wie eine hohe Antennenrichtcharakteristik und Systembandbreite einen hohen Einfluss auf die Definition des Kanalmodells haben. Im Allgemeinen ist die Skalierung der Schwundtiefe als Funktion der Systembandbreite ziemlich gut verstanden. Wir zeigen, dass die hohe Antennenrichtwirkung von mmWave-Systemen zu einer weiteren Reduzierung der Schwundtiefe führt. Zusätzlich erforschen wir einige neue Richtungen in diesem Forschungsbereich, die auf der Analyse der Statistik zweiter Ordnung des Kanalimpulsantwort-Vektors basieren. Unsere Ergebnisse unterstreichen, dass die Schwund-Statistiken der auflösbaren Kanalabgriffe in einem mmWave-Funkkanal nicht als Rayleigh-Rice-verteilte Zufallsvariablen modelliert werden können. Dies liegt vor allem daran, dass durch die hohe Antennenrichtwirkung und Bandbreite von mmWave-Systemen Kanale mit spärlichen Streubedingungen ausgeleuchtet werden. Folglich ist die Annahme komplexer Gaus’scher Zufallsvariablen, die mit Rayleigh-Rice Schwundverteilungen verbunden ist, nicht mehr gültig. Des Weiteren wird gezeigt, dass die hohe Antennenrichtwirkung und Bandbreite von mmWave-Systemen auch die Gültigkeit der Annahme von Stationarität im weiteren Sinne im Slow-Time-Bereich von mmWave-Funkkanälen in Frage stellt. Die in diesem Beitrag vorgestellten Ergebnisse sind neuartig und bieten theoretisch konsistente Einblicke in den gemessenen Funkkanal.

Der Einsatz von Tensor-Algebra-Techniken in der Signalverarbeitung hat in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten zugenommen. Anwendungen wie Bildverarbeitung, biomedizinische Signalverarbeitung, radar, maschinelles Lernen, deep Learning und Kommunikation im Allgemeinen verwenden weitgehend tensorbasierte Verarbeitungstechniken zur Wiederherstellung, Schätzung und Klassifizierung von Signalen. Einer der Hauptgründe für den Einsatz der Tensorsignalverarbeitung ist die Ausnutzung der mehrdimensionalen Struktur von Signalen, wobei die Einzigartigkeitseigenschaften der Tensor-Zerlegung profitieren. Bei der drahtlosen Kommunikation beispielsweise können die Signale mehrere "Dimensionen" haben, wie Raum, Zeit, Frequenz, Polarisation, usw. Diese Arbeit ist in zwei Teile gegliedert. Im ersten Teil betrachten wir die Anwendung von Tensor-basierten Algorithmen für multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) Systeme unter Berücksichtigung von Vorhandensein von Phasenrauschenstörungen. In diesem Teil schlagen wir einen zweistufigen tensorbasierten Empfänger für eine gemeinsame Kanal-, Phasenrausch- und Datenschätzung in MIMO-OFDM-Systemen vor. In der ersten Stufe zeigen wir, dass das empfangene Signal auf den Pilotunterträgern als PARAFAC-Tensor dritter Ordnung modelliert werden kann. Auf der Grundlage dieses Modells werden zwei Algorithmen für die Schätzung der Phasen- und Kanalrauschen in den Pilotton vorgeschlagen. In der zweiten Stufe werden die übertragenen Daten geschätzt. Zu diesem Zweck schlagen wir einen Zero Forcing (ZF)-Empfänger vor, der sich die Tensorstruktur des empfangenen Signals auf den Datenträgern zunutze macht, indem er den vorgeschlagenen selektiven Kronecker-Produkt-Operators (SKP) kapitalisiert. Die Simulationsergebnisse zeigen, dass der vorgeschlagene Empfänger sowohl bei der Symbolfehlerrate als auch beim normalisierten mittleren quadratischen Fehler des geschätzten Kanal- und Phasenrauschmatrizen eine bessere Leistung im Vergleich zum Stand der Technik erzielt. Der zweite Teil dieser Arbeit befasst sich mit der Anwendung der Tensormodellierung zur Reduzierung des Kontrollsignalisierungsoverhead in zukünftigen drahtlosen Systemen, die durch intelligent reconfigurable surfaces (IRSs) unterstützt werden. Zu diesem Zweck schlagen wir eine Annäherung an die nahezu optimalen IRS-Phasenverschiebungen vor, die sonst einen prohibitiv hohen Kommunikationsoverhead auf den BS-IRS-Kontrollverbindungen verursachen würde. Die Hauptidee besteht darin, den optimalen Phasenvektor des IRSs, der Hunderte oder Tausende von Elementen haben kann, durch ein Tensormodell mit niedrigem Rang darzustellen. Dies wird erreicht durch Faktorisierung einer tensorisierten Version des IRS-Phasenverschiebungsvektors, wobei jede Komponente als Kronecker-Produkt einer vordefinierten Anzahl von Faktoren mit kleinerer Größe modelliert wird, die durch Tensor Zerlegungsalgorithmen erhaltet werden können. Wir zeigen, dass die vorgeschlagenen Low-Rank-Modelle die Rückkopplungsanforderungen für die BS-IRS-Kontrollverbindungen drastisch reduzieren. Die Simulationsergebnisse zeigen, dass die vorgeschlagene Methode besonders in Szenarien mit einer starken Sichtverbindung attraktiv sind. In diesem Fall wird fast die gleiche spektrale Effizienz erreicht wie in den Fällen mit nahezu optimalen Phasenverschiebungen, jedoch mit einem drastisch reduzierten Kommunikations-Overhead., The use of tensor algebra techniques in signal processing has been growing over the last two decades. Applications like image processing, biomedical signal processing, radar, machine/deep learning, and communications in general, largely employ tensor-based techniques for recovery, estimating, and classifying signals. One of the main reasons for using tensor signal processing is the exploitation of the multidimensional structure of signals, while benefiting from the uniqueness properties of tensor decomposition. For example, in wireless communications, the signals can have several “dimensions", e.g., space, time, frequency, polarization, beamspace, etc. This thesis is divided into two parts, first, in the application of a tensor-based algorithm in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems with the presence of phase-noise impairments. In this first part, we propose a two-stage tensor-based receiver for a joint channel, phase-noise, and data estimation in MIMO-OFDM systems. In the first stage, we show that the received signal at the pilot subcarriers can be modeled as a third-order PARAFAC tensor. Based on this model, we propose two algorithms for channel and phase-noise estimation at the pilot subcarriers. The second stage consists of data estimation, for which we propose a ZF receiver that capitalizes on the tensor structure of the received signal at the data subcarriers using the proposed SKP operator. Numerical simulations show that the proposed receivers achieves an improved performance compared to the state-of-art receivers in terms of symbol error rate (SER) and normalized mean square error (NMSE) of the estimated channel and phase-noise matrices. The second part of this thesis focuses on the application of tensor modeling to reduce the control signaling overhead in future wireless systems aided by intelligent reconfigurable surfaces (IRS). To this end, we propose a low-rank approximation of the near-optimal IRS phase-shifts, which would incur prohibitively high communication overhead on the BS-IRS controller links. The key idea is to represent the potentially large IRS phase-shift vector using a low-rank tensor model. This is achieved by factorizing a tensorized version of the IRS phase-shift vector, where each component is modeled as the Kronecker product of a predefined number of factors of smaller sizes, which can be obtained via tensor decomposition algorithms. We show that the proposed low-rank models drastically reduce the required feedback requirements associated with the BS-IRS control links. Simulation results indicate that the proposed method is especially attractive in scenarios with a strong line of sight component, in which case nearly the same spectral efficiency is reached as in the cases with near-optimal phase-shifts, but with a drastically reduced communication overhead.

Die klimapolitisch bedingte Transformation des elektrischen Energiesystems, bei gleichzeitiger Elektrifizierung sämtlicher Sektoren, führt zu einem deutlich gesteigertem Bedarf an Verteilnetzkapazitäten. Der Ausbau der elektrischen Infrastruktur kann jedoch nicht zuletzt aufgrund komplizierter und verzögerter Genehmigungsverfahren mit dem Integrationstempo neuer Erzeuger und Lasten mithalten. Eine Höherauslastung der Bestandsnetze könnte eine zusätzliche schnell umsetzbare Abhilfe bieten, um den Netzausbaubedarf zu reduzieren oder zeitlich in die Zukunft zu verlagern. Dabei bietet vor allem die Gleichstromtechnologie vielseitige und vielversprechende Lösungsansätze zur Höherauslastung von Verteilnetzen. Dieses Positionspapier gibt einen Überblick über technologische und methodische Ansätze zur Höherauslastung von Bestandsnetzen mit dem Fokus auf der Gleichstromtechnologie. Dabei werden wesentliche betriebliche und physikalische Vorteile der Gleichstromtechnik erläutert und in zwei exemplarischen Fallstudien demonstriert. Dadurch wird der Einsatz der Gleichstromtechnologie als sinnvolle Ergänzung zum herkömmlichen Verteilnetzausbau nachgewiesen.

Single photon avalanche diode (SPAD) array detectors, with their single photon sensitivity and picosecond time resolution, are particularly well suited for detecting the small number of photons produced in a chemiluminescence measurement and for determining fluorescence lifetime, which is typically in the nanosecond range. In this dissertation, the key parameters that SPAD array detectors needs to have in order to be used for luminescence-based biomedical applications were investigated. Two application areas were investigated, one being the detection of pathogens in a compact chemiluminescence-based measurement system and the other being fluorophore differentiation using fluorescence lifetime in a flow cytometry measurement system. Using experimental measurements on two measurement setups developed for this purpose and suitable Monte Carlo simulations enabled the detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA and ssDNA at different concentrations. It was shown that the detection limit defined as acceptable by the WHO ( 106 copies/ml) can theoretically be achieved with this setup and a suitable assay of 1.8⋅105 copies/ml. The main factors were also determined to further lower the detection limit. Using the second measurement setup, the next step was to investigate the accuracy and precision of fluorescence lifetime determination and its use for fluorophore differentiation. For this purpose, the relation of the accuracy and precision of the determined fluorescence lifetime to the photon counts and the detection rate were investigated, and the required parameters of the SPAD array detector, such as pixel count and time resolution, were determined. The pile-up effect, which limits measurement duration and decreases with higher pixel number, can be reduced with as few as 30 pixels, so that the fluorescence lifetime can already be determined in microsecond measurement durations. In cases such as pathogen differentiation and characterization, differentiation of a large number of fluorophores in a mixture is necessary. Here, differentiation by fractional contributions using fluorescence lifetimes provides an additional multiplexing factor, when the limit of spectrally differentiable fluorophores is reached. It was shown that the number of differentiable fluorophores is mainly limited by the difference between the fluorescence lifetimes present, which must be at least 0.5 ns for two fluorophores. By using artificial neural networks, the accuracy and precision of the determined fractional contributions could be further increased compared to the conventionally used LS-Fit method. To verify this method for use in flow cytometry, single fluorescent microparticles were differentiated despite high background fluorescence fraction of about 50 % at a fluorescence lifetimes difference of 0.7 ns. From these measurement results it can be concluded that it is theoretically possible to differentiate about 5000 cells or particles per second with the SPAD array detector used here. The requirements for the measurement setup and the SPAD array detector were successfully determined for both applications investigated in this dissertation, enabling the development of customized SPAD array detectors. As the demand for lithium-ion batteries increases, a better understanding of the complex phenomena involved in their operation becomes crucial. In this work, we propose a coupled thermo-chemo-mechanical model for electrode particles of Li-ion batteries. To this end, we start with a general finite strain continuum framework for the coupled thermo-chemo-mechanical problem and then narrow it down to cathode active particles of Li-ion batteries, particularly to lithium manganese oxide particles. Electrochemical kinetics at the surface of the particle and also heat generation due to current exchange are taken into account. Next, the numerical treatment of the problem using the finite element method is presented. Specific line elements are needed to evaluate the flux of ions at the surface of the particle. Seitdem im Jahr 2000 das Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz (EEG) beschlossen wurde, befindet sich die elektrische Energieversorgung im Wandel. Insbesondere der auf den nördlichen Teil des Landes konzentrierte Ausbau von erneuerbaren Energien hat einen erhöhten Bedarf an Stromtransfer von Nord- nach Süddeutschland zur Folge. Für lange Übertragungsstrecken erweist sich die Hochspannungsgleichstromübertragung (HGÜ) gegenüber der konventionellen Hochspannungsdrehstromübertragung (HDÜ) als vorteilhafter. Im Bereich der HGÜ hat sich die Technologie der selbstgeführten modularen MultilevelKonverter (VSC-MMC) durchgesetzt. Durch ihre Funktionsweise bedingt, ergeben sich beim Betrieb derartiger Konverter spektrale Anteile bis in den einstelligen Megahertzbereich. Mit der Einführung der EMV-Richtlinie 2014/30/EU1 und der Überführung in das Gesetz über die elektromagnetische Verträglichkeit von Betriebsmitteln (EMVG) sowie dem Leitfaden zur Anwendung der EMV-Richtlinie2 , bleibt die Entbehrung einer CE-Kennzeichnung bzw. einer Konformitätserklärung oder einer förmlichen EMV-Bewertung für ortsfeste Anlagen, wie es bspw. Freileitungen sind, bestehen. Allerdings wurde hier eine Dokumentationspflicht in Form einer Risikoanalyse, welche für Überprüfungszwecke durch eine nationale Behörde bereitzuhalten ist, eingeführt. Problematisch hierbei ist, dass die Technologie der VSC-MMC im Bereich der Energieübertragung hinsichtlich ihrer EMV in den bestehenden Normen nicht lückenlos und eindeutig beschrieben ist. Speziell für größere transversale Entfernungen von mehr als 100 m besteht Ungewissheit. Daher wird in dieser Dissertation erstmalig ein Modell zur Berechnung des elektromagnetischen Feldes von Freileitungen im Frequenzbereich entwickelt, welches die Berechnung des Feldes in beliebigen Beobachtungspunkten um die Leitung durch die Superposition einzelner quasi-statischer und abgestrahlter Felder ermöglicht. Das Modell wird auf verkettete Leitungen und Mehrleitersysteme ausgeweitet und ermöglicht so die Untersuchung des Einflusses der Freileitungsmasten. Die Verifizierung wird anhand von Simulationen auf Basis der Momentenmethode durchgeführt. Die Validierung erfolgt mittels Messungen in einem Absorberraum und an einem 30 km langen Freileitungssystem. Darüber hinaus befasst sich diese Arbeit mit der Erarbeitung eines Beeinflussungsmodells zur EMV-Risikoanalyse von Funkdiensten, mit Hilfe dessen die Angabe eines objektiven, quantifizierbaren technischen Risikos ermöglicht wird. In particular, the expansion of renewable energies concentrated in the northern part of the country has resulted in an increased demand for electricity transfer from northern to southern Germany. For long transmission distances, high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission is proving more advantageous than conventional high-voltage three-phase current (HVDC) transmission. Here, the technology of voltage-source-converter modular multilevel converters (VSC-MMC) has become established. Due to their mode of operation, spectral components down to the single-digit megahertz range result when operating such converters. With the introduction of the EMC Directive 2014/30/EU and the transfer into the law on electromagnetic compatibility of equipment (EMVG) as well as the guideline for the application of the EMC Directive, the dispensing with a CE marking or a declaration of conformity or a formal EMC assessment for fixed installations, such as overhead lines, remains. However, a documentation obligation was introduced in the form of a risk analysis, which must be kept available for inspection purposes by a national authority. With regard to the technology of VSC-MMC the problem arises that this technology is not completely and clearly described in the existing standards with regard to its EMC. Especially for transverse distances exceeding 100 m, there is uncertainty. In this dissertation, for the first time, a model for the calculation of the electromagnetic field of overhead lines in the frequency domain is developed, which allows the calculation of the field in arbitrary observation points around the line by the superposition of static and radiated fields. The model is extended to concatenated lines and multi-conductor systems, allowing the investigation of the influence of the towers. Verification is performed using simulations based on the method of moments. Validation is performed by measurements in an anechoic chamber and on a 30 km long overhead line. Furthermore, this work deals with the development of an influence model for EMC risk analysis for radio services, with the help of which the specification of an objective, quantifiable technical risk is possible. The application of the developed model for the calculation of the electromagnetic field of overhead lines is shown as an example.

The safety requirements in vehicles continuously increase due to more automated functions using electronic components. Besides the reliability of the components themselves, a reliable power supply is crucial for a safe overall system. Different architectures for a safe power supply consider the lead battery as a backup solution for safety-critical applications. Various ageing mechanisms influence the performance of the battery and have an impact on its reliability. In order to qualify the battery with its specific failure modes for use in safety-critical applications, it is necessary to prove this reliability by failure rates. Previous investigations determine the fixed failure rates of lead batteries using data from teardown analyses to identify the battery failure modes but did not include the lifetime of these batteries examined. Alternatively, lifetime values of battery replacements in workshops without knowing the reason for failure were used to determine the overall time-dependent failure rate. This study presents a method for determining reliability models of lead batteries by investigating individual failure modes. Since batteries are subject to ageing, the analysis of lifetime values of different failure modes results in time-dependent failure rates of different magnitudes. The failure rates of the individual failure modes develop with different shapes over time, which allows their ageing behaviour to be evaluated.

This dissertation deals with the coupling of reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms with digital twins based on the discrete element method (DEM). These digital twins are developed to act as environments to solve RL problems of machine control and parameter optimization. Due to the remarkable performance of modern RL algorithms and the versatility of DEM simulation, the coupling of these two fields opens up possibilities for solutions to many problems of modern machines or processes. In order to achieve a suitable coupling and handle the computationally slow DEM simulations, appropriate methodologies are developed. By applying these methodologies and state-of-the-art RL algorithms to two specific applications, the applicability of the entire approach is presented. In the first application, RL is used to solve the single- and multi-actuation task of the novel peristaltic sortation machine. Therefore, a DEM based digital twin is developed to properly represent the complex interaction of the individual parts of this machine. The second application deals with the problem of the DEM input parameter optimization which is always required to research new materials are researched with the DEM. A newly developed approach to optimize the parameters using RL leads to remarkable results and lower computation times. The developed approaches and methodologies of this dissertation are generally adaptable to other problems and contribute to the usage of the combination of RL and DEM in many other research fields. Derzeit leidet rund 19 % der Weltbevölkerung an Hörverlust (WHO, World report on hearing, 2021). Dieser Anteil wird Prognosen zufolge in den nächsten Jahrzehnten weiter steigen. Die Beeinträchtigung des Hörvermögens geht zusätzlich mit gravierenden negativen Auswirkungen einher. Dazu zählen eine verringerte soziale Interaktion bis hin zur Isolation, Einfluss auf die psychische und sogar physische Gesundheit, der Zugang zu Bildung und eine dekrementierende Lebensqualität. Diese Folgeerscheinungen stellen einschneidende Belastungen für die Personen dar, aber auch für die Gesellschaft. Es bedarf daher einer Verbesserung der Versorgung von Hörverlust. Vor diesem Hintergrund wird in dieser Arbeit eine portable Forschungs- und Entwicklungsplattform implementiert. Diese Plattform kann als Hilfsmittel für die Entwicklung und praxisnahe Erprobung von entsprechenden Audiosignalverarbeitungsalgorithmen genutzt werden. Die Hardware des Geräts wird in dieser Arbeit weitgehend herstellerunabhängig entworfen. Zu testende Algorithmen können in der Programmiersprache C geschrieben werden. Eine möglichst hohe Adaptabilität zwischen der Funktionsweise aber auch den Restriktionen sowie dem technischen Umfang in einer Hörhilfe wie einem Hörgerät und der Entwicklungsplattform wird sichergestellt. Damit wird die Übertragbarkeit von Erkenntnissen und Entwicklungsarbeiten auf zukünftige Hörhilfen, die bei einer Versorgung eingesetzt werden, gewährleistet. Für die Implementierung einer solchen Plattform wird auf Basis eines Lastenhefts ein Systementwurf erstellt und konkretisiert, bevor ein Schaltplanentwurf sowie dessen Erprobung in Form eines funktionalen Tischaufbaus und ein Leiterplattendesign für eine portable, kosteneffiziente Lösung erfolgen. Ein erster Gehäuseentwurf ermöglicht die Implementierung einer Gesamtlösung, die in natürlicher Geräuschumgebung erprobt und genutzt werden kann. Der Prototyp wird geprüft, die korrekte Funktionsweise sichergestellt und das System mit ausgewählten elektrischen sowie elektroakustischen Eigenschaften charakterisiert. Mit dieser Arbeit wird versucht einen Beitrag für diese gesellschaftliche Herausforderung zu leisten sowie die Lebensqualität der geschädigten Personen auf lange Sicht zu steigern, indem die Entwicklung fortschrittlicher Signalverarbeitung von Audiosignalen für die Versorgung von Hörverlust unterstützt wird. Wissenstransfer sowie interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit soll vereinfacht und die Akzeptanz von Hörhilfen durch technischen Fortschritt verbessert werden., These days, WHO estimates that 19 % of the world’s population suffers from hearing loss (WHO, World report on hearing, 2021). According to forecasts, the number of affected people is expected to rise in the fol-lowing decades. Furthermore, impaired hearing is associated with severe adverse side effects including reduced social interaction right up to isolation, restrained physical and mental health, access to education, and a decremented quality of life. These sequelae are heavy burdens and challenges for affected individuals as well as society. Consequently, taking care of hearing loss must be improved. Against this background, a portable platform for research and development is designed and implemented in this thesis. The platform can be used as a tool for engineering and testing algorithms for audio signal processing algorithms in a realistic environment. A device is designed that is mostly independent of manufacturer-specific components. It features C-programmability of algorithms to be tested on the platform. There is a high adaptability between the functionality, the restrictions as well as the technical scope of a hearing device and the portable platform in this work. This ensures that findings and engineered algorithms can be transferred to future hearing aids. The platform is implemented in several steps. First, a system design is conceived based on the requirement specification. This is followed by a schematic circuit diagram design, which is tested in form of a functional model, and the design of a printed board for a cost-efficient, portable device. In combination with a first enclosure concept, a complete solution, which can be used in a realistic acoustic environment, is implemented. This prototype is tested, correct functionality is ensured, and a system characterization with well-chosen electrical as well as electro-acoustic properties is created. This work strives to contribute to those social challenges and to improve impaired persons’ quality of life in the long term by supporting engineering of advanced audio signal processing algorithms for hearing loss care. Knowledge transfer as well as interdisciplinary cooperation is to be facilitated and the reputation of hearing aids can be enhanced thanks to technical progress.

Anion exchange membranes (AEM) are core components for alkaline electrochemical energy technologies, such as water electrolysis and fuel cells. They are regarded as promising alternatives for proton exchange membranes (PEM) due to the possibility of using platinum group metal (PGM)-free electrocatalysts. However, their chemical stability and conductivity are still of great concern, which is appearing to be a major challenge for developing AEM-based energy systems. Herein, we highlight an AEM with styrene-b-ethylene-b-butylene-b-styrene copolymer (SEBS) as a backbone and pyrrolidinium or piperidinium functional groups tethered on flexible ethylene oxide spacer side-chains (SEBS-Py2O6). This membrane reached 27.8 mS cm-1 hydroxide ion conductivity at room temperature, which is higher compared to previously obtained piperidinium-functionalized SEBS reaching up to 10.09 mS cm-1. The SEBS-Py206 combined with PGM-free electrodes in an AWE water electrolysis (AEMWE) cell achieves 520 mA cm-2 at 2 V in 0.1 M KOH and 171 mA cm-2 in ultra-pure water (UPW). Kompletan gubitak motoričkih sposobnosti uzrokovan pretrpljenim traumatičnim događajem ili kao posljedica neurodegenerativne bolesti poput amiotrofične lateralne skleroze gotovo uvijek se manifestira kroz gubitak sposobnosti komunikacije, u pismu kao i govoru, što povrh svega dodatno pogoršava kvalitetu života pogođenih pojedinaca. Uz uvjet funkcionalnog organa vida, asistivna tehnologija ponudila je cijeli niz tehnoloških rješenja koja su navedenoj populaciji omogućila sposobnost komunikacije, te time poboljšala kvalitetu njihovog života. Unatoč dobrim rezultatima i širokom izboru mogućnosti takvi vizualni sustavi nisu primjenjivi za malu grupu osoba kod kojih je napredak bolesti uzrokovao gubitak vida. Problem komunikacije s takvim osobama još je uvijek otvoreno pitanje, gdje trenutna rješenja daju veoma limitirane rezultate. Potencijalno rješenje nudi se kroz primjenu sučelja mozak-računalo odnosno sustava koji izmjerenu i obrađenu neurološku aktivnost pretvara u kontrolne naredbe za upravljani sustav. Većina dosadašnjih izvedbi sučelja koristi neurološku reakciju na vizualne podražaje ili neki oblik vizualne podrške s ciljem lakšeg upravljanja sustavom, čime je ova vrsta komunikacije također ograničena na osobe koje imaju sposobnost vida. U ovom doktorskom radu prezentirano je sučelje mozak-računalo za pisanje koje primjenjuje samo auditorne podražaje, a koje je namijenjeno navedenoj grupi čija se neurološka aktivnost mjeri najrasprostranjenijom i cjenovno najprihvatljivijom elektroencefalografskom (EEG) metodom. Temeljna ideja sustava je da korisnik na temelju klasificirane mjerene moždane aktivnosti izdvoji željeno slovo iz niza nasumično poredanih odabranih slova hrvatske abecede prezentiranih korisniku preko auditornih podražaja. Odabir stimulacija u obliku slova tj. fonema iz hrvatskog jezika omogućilo je izvedbu sustava koji pisanje ostvaruje redanjem slova, tj. na način koji je svima poznat zbog čega je upoznavanje i prilagodba na sustav maksimalno skraćena i dodatno prilagođena krajnjim korisnicima. Obrada i analiza neuroloških reakcija izmjerenih na grupi subjekata prilikom korištenja predloženog sučelja pokazala je stabilne karakteristične moždane reakcije na ciljane podražaje, a isti podatci korišteni su za treniranje različitih tipova klasifikatora i prostornih filtera. Validacija sustava izvršena je na istim subjektima kroz zadatak pisanja rečenica, te je pokazala izvrsne i dobre rezultate kod 50% subjekata, dok konačna izvedba sustava obuhvaća obradu i klasifikaciju mjerenih EEG signala u stvarnom vremenu u dvije klasifikacijske razine. U prvoj razini subjektu su prezentirana sva odabrana slova hrvatske abecede, dok je povećanje točnosti klasifikacije moguće kroz sljedeću klasifikacijsku razinu u kojoj se subjekt stimulira s pet slova s najboljim klasifikacijskim rezultatima iz prethodne razine. Ograničenja primijenjene EEG mjerne metode i obrade signala pokazana su u analizi točnosti sustava s reduciranim brojem korištenih elektroda. Dobiveni rezultati zadržavaju postignutu točnost unatoč reduciranom broja elektroda pogotovo kod osoba koje navedeni sustav koriste s velikom sigurnošću, ukazujući pritom na veliki nedostatak prostorne rezolucije kod EEG mjerenja i potrebu za primjenom mjernih metodama boljih prostornih karakteristika., The complete loss of motor skills caused by the suffered traumatic event or as a result of neurodegenerative disease such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, almost always manifests itself through inability to communicate, both in writing and speech, which further degrades the life quality of the individuals in question. In case of a patient’s functional eyesight, the assistive technology offered a whole series of technological solutions which restore the communication capability of the mentioned population, increasing their life quality. Despite good results and a wide selection of options, such systems are not suitable for a small group of people who experienced vision loss in the advanced stages of diseases. Problem of communicating with such individuals remains the open topic, where current solutions provide very limited results. A potential solution is available through the application of a brain-computer interface, i.e. a system which converts the measured and processed neurological activity into control commands for the managed system. Large number of such interfaces use a neurological reaction to visual stimuli or use some form of visual support in order to simplify the control of the system, hence this type of interface is also limited to individuals with eyesight. This doctoral thesis proposes brain-computer interface for writing that applies only auditory stimuli, and which is intended for the mentioned group whose neurological activity is measured by the most widespread and affordable method: Electroencephalogram (EEG). The basic idea behind the proposed system is that the user selects the desired letter from a series of randomly ordered letters of the Croatian alphabet presented through the auditory system based on the classified measured brain activity. The selection of stimuli in the form of letters, that is, phonemes from the Croatian language enabled the implementation of a spelling system maximally shortening the end-user training time. Processing and analysis of neurological reactions measured on a group of subjects with the proposed interface showed stable typical brain reactions to target stimuli, and the same data has been used to train several types of classifiers and spatial filters. Validation of the system has been performed on the same group of subjects through the task of writing sentences, showing a satisfactory result in 50% of subjects. The final system implementation includes processing and classification of measured EEG signals in real time across two classification levels. In the first level, all included letters are presented to the subject once, while the second classification level further increases the classification accuracy by stimulating the subject with additional five letters which achieved the highest classification probability in the previous stage. The limitations of the proposed EEG measurement and processing method is shown in the analysis of the system accuracy with the reduced number of used electrodes. The obtained results indicate a similar system accuracy with the reduced number of electrodes, especially by subjects who are able to use proposed system with great confidence, indicating a deficiency in the spatial resolution of the EEG measurement which can be solved by using measuring methods with better spatial characteristics.

This thesis addresses electronic equalization of intersymbol interference caused by chromatic and polarization mode dispersion in intensity-modulated optical communication links with direct detection. The simple and cost-efficient system setup is, even at high bit rates of 40 Gbit/s and beyond, of interest for short-haul optical links in metropolitan, aggregation or local area networks. Therefore, this thesis investigates preferably simple and low-complexity equalizer structures, which are able to compensate well for the nonlinear characteristics and influences of the intensity-modulated optical communication link with direct detection. Starting with system modeling and the introduction to different equalization methods, we identify low-complexity feed-forward and decision-feedback equalizers in the first part of this thesis. We further put their chromatic and polarization mode dispersion compensation performance to the broader context by comparison to maximum likelihood sequence estimation. Finally, we come to the investigation of adaptation algorithms for equalizer coefficient adjustment, which accounts for the time-variant nature of polarization mode dispersion, while still targeting preferably simple and efficient realization., Die vorliegende Arbeit befasst sich mit der elektronischen Entzerrung von Intersymbolinterferenzen, wie sie in einfachen intensitätsmodulierten optischen Übertragungssystemen mit direkter Detektion durch chromatische oder Polarisationsmodendispersion hervorgerufen werden. Aufgrund des einfachen und kostengünstigen Aufbaus sind solche Systeme auch bei hohen Bitraten von 40 Gbit/s und darüber hinaus vor allem für optische Kurzstreckenverbindungen in Metro-, Zugangs- oder lokalen Netzen von Interesse. Deshalb werden in dieser Arbeit möglichst einfache und aufwandsreduzierte Entzerrerstrukturen untersucht, die die nichtlinearen Eigenschaften und Einflüsse des intensitätsmodulierten optischen Übertragungskanals mit direkter Detektion trotzdem möglichst gut kompensieren. Ausgehend von der Modellbildung und Vorstellung verschiedener Entzerrungsverfahren wird in einem ersten Teil deshalb die aufwandsreduzierte Auslegung von vorwärts- und entscheidungsrückgekoppelten Entzerrerstrukturen bestimmt. Ihre Leistungsfähigkeit bzgl. der Kompensation von chromatischer und Polarisationsmodendispersion wird in einem weiteren Schritt durch Vergleich mit der Maximum-Likelihood Sequenzschätzung in einen größeren Kontext gesetzt. Abschließend widmet sich diese Arbeit der Untersuchung von Adaptionsalgorithmen, um dem zeitvarianten Verhalten der Polarisationsmodendispersion durch Nachführen der Entzerrerkoeffizienten begegnen zu können. Hierbei liegt ebenfalls ein wichtiger Aspekt auf der möglichst einfachen und aufwandsreduzierten Realisierung.

Increasing demands for precision electronics require individual components such as resistors to be specified, as they can be the limiting factor within a circuit. To specify quality and long-term stability of resistors, noise measurements are a common method. This review briefly explains the theoretical background, introduces the noise index and provides an insight on how this index can be compared to other existing parameters. It then focuses on the different methods to measure excess noise in resistors. The respective advantages and disadvantages are pointed out in order to simplify the decision of which setup is suitable for a particular application. Each method is analyzed based on the integration of the device under test, components used, shielding considerations and signal processing. Furthermore, our results on the excess noise of resistors and resistor networks are presented using two different setups, one for very low noise measurements down to 20 µHz and one for broadband up to 100 kHz. The obtained data from these measurements are then compared to published data. Finally, first measurements on commercial strain gauges and inkjet-printed strain gauges are presented that show an additional 1/fα component compared to commercial resistors and resistor networks.

Air pollution in urban areas is a huge concern that demands an efficient air quality control to ensure health quality standards. The hotspots can be located by increasing spatial distribution of ambient air quality monitoring for which the low-cost sensors can be used. However, it is well-known that many factors influence their results. For low-cost Particulate Matter (PM) sensors, high relative humidity can have a significant impact on data quality. In order to eliminate or reduce the impact of high relative humidity on the results obtained from low-cost PM sensors, a low-cost dryer was developed and its effectiveness was investigated. For this purpose, a test chamber was designed, and low-cost PM sensors as well as professional reference devices were installed. A vaporizer regulated the humid conditions in the test chamber. The low-cost dryer heated the sample air with a manually adjustable intensity depending on the voltage. Different voltages were tested to find the optimum one with least energy consumption and maximum drying efficiency. The low-cost PM sensors with and without the low-cost dryer were compared. The experimental results verified that using the low-cost dryer reduced the influence of relative humidity on the low-cost PM sensor results., Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung

Die Nachweisgrenzen in der Kapillarelektrophorese-Massenspektrometrie (CE MS) sind aufgrund der sehr geringen Probenbeladbarkeit für einige Anwendungen, wie z. B. die Analyse von Spurenstoffen in der Umwelt, nicht ausreichend. Daher ist eine Anreicherung des Analyten erforderlich. Zur Verbesserung der Nachweisgrenzen kann die Isotachophorese, welche Analyte effektive anreichern kann, als zusätzliche Trenndimension mit der CE-MS gekoppelt werden. In dieser Studie wird ein kompakter 2D-Aufbau für die säulengekoppelte Isotachophorese/Kapillarelektrophorese-Massenspektrometrie (ITP/CE-MS) basierend auf einem modifizierten kommerziellen CE-MS-Aufbau für die nachweisstarke Analyse von anionischen Analyten vorgestellt. Neben instrumentellen Arbeiten sind auch methodische Aspekte ein Schwerpunkt dieser Dissertation. Die ausgewählten Verbindungen, Glyphosat und seine Metaboliten, sind aufgrund ihrer hohen Ladung und Polarität von Natur aus schwierig durch chromatographische Verfahren zu analysieren. In der Regel müssen sie vor der Analyse derivatisiert werden. Dagegen eignen sich elektrophoretische Methoden ideal für geladene Analyten, da dies die Grundlage des Trennmechanismus darstellt und zudem geringe Probenvolumen analysiert werden können. Der ITP/CE-MS-Aufbau wurde in einem Hybridformat basierend auf Standardkapillaren und einem mikrofluidischen Glaschip als Schnittstelle mit integrierter Leitfähigkeitsdetektion entwickelt. Der intermediäre Detektor ermöglichte einen zuverlässigen Transfer der mittels ITP aufkonzentrierten Analyte zwischen den Trenndimensionen. Dank des Hybriddesigns war es möglich, ein einziges kommerzielles CE-MS-Gerät mit einem modifizierten Injektionssystem, einem dritten Vial-Halter (mit Druck beaufschlagbar, an Hochspannung anschließbar) und einer Hochspannungs-Schaltbox für ITP/CE-MS Messungen zu verwenden. Alle Modifikationen konnten flexibel in das CE-Gerät selbst eingebaut werden und erforderten keine Demontage des CE-Geräts. Dies ermöglichte ein schnelles Wechseln zwischen 2D- und 1D-Anwendung auf demselben Gerät. Um die Trennbedingungen für beide Dimensionen zu optimieren, wurden die pKS Werte und die elektrophoretischen Grenzmobilitäten für Glyphosat und seine Metabolite zwischen pH 1,2 und 12,0 durch Kapillarelektrophorese-Leitfähigkeitsdetektion (CE-C4D) mit sehr hoher Auflösung unter Verwendung geeigneter Puffersysteme und der kostenlosen AnglerFish-Software von Malý et al. bestimmt (Malý et al., Electrophoresis. 2020, 41, 493‑501). Durch die softwarebasierte Korrektur der Ionenstärkeeffekte auf die effektive elektrophoretische Mobilität der Analyte konnten erstmals die sehr niedrigen pKS -Werte der Analyten präzise bestimmt werden. Mit diesen Daten wurden optimale Trennbedingungen für die CE bei unterschiedlichen pH-Werten simuliert und experimentell bestätigt. CE-MS wurde erfolgreich auf reale Proben angewendet. Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass Phosphat die kritischste Matrixkomponente ist. Parallel dazu wurde die ITP-MS Trennung optimiert, um neben der Anreicherung der Analyte auch die effektive Abtrennung von Phosphat sicherzustellen, sodass es nicht im ITP-Stack enthalten ist. Schließlich wurden ITP-C4D/CE-MS-Messungen durchgeführt, um Glyphosat in wässrigen Proben zu analysieren, wobei hervorragende Nachweisgrenzen im pikomolaren Bereich erreicht wurden. The very low sample loadability of a few nanoliters precludes the application of capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry (CE-MS) in environmental trace analysis. Therefore, analyte enrichment is required to achieve the desired limits of detection. This can be achieved using the inherent preconcentration abilities of isotachophoresis (ITP), when coupled online to CE-MS. In this study, a compact 2D setup for column-coupled isotachophoresis capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry (ITP/CE-MS) based on a modified commercial CE MS setup for the sensitive analysis of anionic analytes is presented. Beside instrumental inventions, methodological aspects are a major focus of this thesis. The selected model compounds, glyphosate and its metabolites, are inherently difficult to analyze by chromatographic methods due to their high charge and polarity, necessitating derivatization. In contrast, electrophoretic methods are ideal, because their separation mechanism requires charged analytes and allow to analyze very sample volumes The ITP/CE-MS setup was developed as a hybrid solution based on standard capillaries and a microfluidic glass chip as interface with integrated conductivity detection. This intermediate detector enabled to reliably transfer the stack of analytes between the separation dimensions. Thanks to the hybrid design, it was possible to use a single commercial CE-MS device with a modified injection system, a third vial holder (pressurizable, connectable to high voltage) and a high voltage switching box for ITP/CE-MS measurements. All modifications were flexibly installed in the commercial CE instrument and did not require any disassembly of the CE instrument. This allowed fast switching between 2D and 1D applications on the same device. To optimize the separation conditions for both dimensions, the pKa values and limiting electrophoretic mobilities for glyphosate and its metabolites were determined between pH 1.2 and 12.0 by CE coupled to conductivity detection (CE C4D) at a very high resolution using suitable buffer systems and the free AnglerFish software developed by Malý et al. (Malý et al., Electrophoresis. 2020, 41, 493‑501). Thanks to the software-based correction of ionic strength effects on the analytes’ effective electrophoretic mobility, the very low pKa values of the analytes were precisely determined for the first time. With these data, optimal separation conditions for CE at different pH values were simulated and confirmed in experiments. CE-MS was successfully applied to real samples. The results revealed that phosphate is the most critical matrix component. In parallel, ITP-MS was optimized to ensure preconcentration of analytes as well as an effective separation from phosphate, not included in the ITP stack. Finally, ITP-C4D/CE-MS measurements were conducted to analyze glyphosate in aqueous samples achieving impressive limits of detection in the picomolar range.

The processes of homogenization and crystallization of polymer solutions in cylindrical pipes are considered, which are described by the convective-diffusion equation with respect to the solution temperature and kinetic equations with respect to homogenization and crystallization of the polymer known as the thermokinetic nonlinear boundary value problem. A numerical-analytical iterative method for solving this problem is proposed, which consists of stepwise obtaining solutions of kinetic equations with respect to homogenization and crystallization of polymer solutions depending on the solution temperature and obtaining a solution of the convective-diffusion problem with respect to melt temperature. The accuracy of the obtained solution is determined by the norm of the difference between two adjacent iterations. The value of the crystallization coefficient, which is close to unity, determines the length of the dosing zone and the transition to the next zone – the flow of homogenized polymer into the distribution head of the extruder. The results of mathematical modelling are given. Розглянуто процеси гомогенізації та кристалізації розчинів полімерів у циліндричних трубах, які описуються рівнянням конвективнодифузійної залежності від температури розчину та кінетичними рівняннями з гомогенізації та кристалізації полімера, відомими як термокінетична нелінійна крайова задача. Запропоновано числово-аналітичний ітераційний метод розв’язування цієї задачі, який полягає в поетапному отриманні розв’язків кінетичних рівнянь з гомогенізації та кристалізації розчинів полімерів залежно від температури розчину та отримання розв’язку конвективно-дифузійної задачі щодо температури розплаву. Точність отриманого розв’язку визначається нормою різниці двох сусідніх ітерацій. Значення коефіцієнта кристалізації, близьке до одиниці, визначає довжину зони дозування і перехід до наступної зони – потоку гомогенізованого полімера в розподільну головку екструдера. Наведено результати математичного моделювання.

Future V2X applications rely on the exchange of large sensor data samples and are subject to stringent safety and timing constraints. Due to the lossy nature of the wireless radio channel, data exchange of such larger samples has to be protected by a real-time capable reliability mechanism in order to recover from critical data loss in time. However, state-of-the-art V2X technologies so far are primarily designed for exchanging single packet data, which ignores the challenges of reliable transfer of larger data objects. The recently proposed DDSbased W2RP protocol, addresses such issues. Its effectiveness has been extensively tested and proven in an OMNeT++ simulation environment. In this work we developed a proof-of-concept implementation based on the open-source DDS implementation Fast DDS that can be used to validate the W2RP simulative results in a real-world environment. In dieser Arbeit werden kompakte Induktionsspulen als berührungslose elektroma- gnetische Ultraschallwandler (EMATs) ohne zusätzliche Magnete untersucht. Im Vergleich dazu sind klassische, kommerziell verfügbare EMATs auf die Verwendung von voluminösen Permanentmagneten oder separaten Elektromagneten angewiesen. Die Vorteile der EMATs ohne zusätzliche Magnete sind höhere magnetische Flussdichten lokal am Wirkungsort, keine störende Anziehung von ferromagnetischen Fremdobjekten und deutlich kleinere Sensorköpfe, was eine wichtige Voraussetzung für die Herstellung von kompakten EMAT-Phased-Arrays ist. Die Umsetzung solcher EMATs stellt eine Herausforderung dar, weil die Elektronik für die Ultraschallerzeugung mit Spannungen und Strömen im kV- und kA-Bereich umgehen muss. Aufgrund des bei EMATs generell geringen Wirkungsgrads müssen beim Ultraschallempfang Signale im unteren µV-Bereich detektiert werden. Gleichzeitig dürfen keine Störungen durch die impulsartigen kA-Ströme entstehen und die relativ kleinen EMAT-Induktoren, die als Sensorköpfe dienen, müssen den oft wiederholten kA-Impulsen standhalten. Für die Auslegung von EMATs ohne zusätzliche Magnete werden Modellbildungen für die Magnetfeld- und Schallfeldberechnung gezeigt. Als Demonstrationsszenario wird eine 3D-Lokalisierung einer Inhomogenität im Inneren eines mit Flüssigkeit gefüllten dickwandigen Metallbehälters ohne mechanischen Kontakt zum Behälter (1 mm Luftspalt) erfolgreich durchgeführt. Weiterhin wird eine berührungslose Kantenabtastung einer ferromagnetischen Stahlplatte mit unidirektionalen Lamb-Wellen präsentiert. Die Lamb-Wellen werden mit kontrollierten Interferenzeffekten unidirektional ausgesendet und empfangen. Der kompakte Aufbau des phasengenauen Doppel-EMATs bestätigt die Machbarkeit von Phased-Arrays. Des Weiteren wird gezeigt, wie der Ultraschallempfang mit einem EMAT auf einem ferromagnetischen Prüfkörper ohne eine aktive Magnetisierung (Bias-Magnetfeld) möglich ist. Somit wird die Problematik des zeitlich begrenzten (µs-Bereich) Bias-Magnetfeldes gelöst, wodurch sich deutlich längere (ms- bis s-Bereich) Empfangszeitfenster realisieren lassen. Ohne die Verwendung einer aktiven Magnetisierung entfallen auch Probleme wie das Auftreten von Barkhausenrauschen oder Signalstörungen durch Schaltvorgänge von Dioden zum Schutz vor Polaritätsumkehr der Elektrolytkondensatorbänke. Es entstehen mehr Freiheitsgrade, wodurch neuartige EMAT-Konzepte vorstellbar sind, die flächige Induktoren und Ferritrückplatten mit hohen relativen Permeabilitätszahlen verwenden. Großflächig lichtemittierende Bauelemente auf Basis von 2D-Halbleitern Zweidimensionale (2D) Materialien stellen eine spannende neue Materialklasse mit metallischen, halbleitenden und isolierenden Eigenschaften dar. Atomar dünne Übergangsmetall-Dichalcogenide (TMDCs), insbesondere die Familie (Mo, W)(S, Se)2, haben in den letzten Jahren großes Interesse geweckt. Liegen diese 2D-Halbleiter als Monolage mit einer Schichtdicke < 0,7 nm vor, weisen sie eine direkte Bandlücke auf und besitzen eine große Oszillatorstärke, was sie zu vielversprechenden Kandidaten für zukünftige optoelektronische Anwendungen macht. In der Theorie können alle 2D-Materialien frei kombiniert werden, ohne durch Wachstumsprozesse und Gitterkonstanten eingeschränkt zu sein. Um jedoch TMDCs als 2D-Bausteine für ultradünne lichtemittierenden Bauelemente der nächsten Generation nutzen zu können, gibt es jedoch noch einige Herausforderungen zu überwinden: Bisher zeigen nur wenige Ansätze die Möglichkeit einer Skalierung für die Herstellung im größeren Maßstab, die für praktische Anwendungen relevant ist. Da auch die kontrollierte Herstellung von TMDCs noch immer eine große Herausforderung ist, würde die Kombination eines reproduzierbaren Herstellungsverfahrens mit einer geeigneten skalierbaren Bauelementarchitektur den nächsten Schritt in Richtung 2D-Optoelektronik ebnen. Das in dieser Arbeit entwickelte Grundkonzept lichtemittierender Bauelemente beruht dabei auf einem vollständig vertikalen Design, wodurch dieses prinzipiell beliebig skalierbar ist. Dieser Ansatz basiert auf der Einbettung von WS2-Monolayern in ein p-i-n-Layout unter Verwendung organischen p- und anorganischen n-Hilfsschichten. In einer ersten Machbarkeitsstudie wurden exfolierte WS2-Monolagen verwendet, wobei der Strompfad mittels Laserlithografie senkrecht zur WS2-Flocke definiert wurde. Diese Bauelemente weisen ein diodisches I-U-Verhalten auf und die Elektrolumineszenz (EL) erreicht bei Raumtemperatur eine Leuchtdichte von bis zu 50 cd m-2 im roten Spektralbereich. Um dieses Bauelementkonzept zu skalieren, ist ein großflächiges TMDC-Wachstum mit homogenen Eigenschaften erforderlich. Dafür wird zunächst MoS2 untersucht, das auf 2 ‘‘ Saphir (0001) Wafern mittels metallorganischer Gasphasenabscheidung (MOCVD) gewachsen ist. Hier wird der Zusammenhang zwischen den Wachstumsparametern und der Photolumineszenz (PL) Intensität analysiert. Dabei konnte eine klare Korrelation zwischen der Kristallkorngröße und der PL-Intensität festgestellt werden. Eine Verringerung der Halbwertsbreiten sowohl der Raman-Resonanzen als auch der PL-Spektren wies darüber hinaus auf eine verringerte Defektdichte bei optimierten Wachstumsbedingungen hin. Eine Transfertechnik wurde entwickelt, um großflächig gewachsene WS2-Monolagen in die vertikale p-i-n-Bauelementarchitektur einzubetten. Bei Anlegen einer Spannung zeigten die prozessierten Bauelemente ein gleichrichtendes Verhalten und eine rote EL über eine Fläche von 6 mm2, die nur durch die Größe der Kontaktpads begrenzt ist. Es wurden Einschaltspannungen < 2,5 V erreicht und bei einer Betriebsspannung von 7 V konnte eine Leuchtdichte von fast 1 cd m2 erzielt werden. Durch die erfolgreiche Umsetzung dieses Konzepts auf Foliensubstraten wurden die ersten flexiblen, großflächigen lichtemittierenden Bauelemente auf der Basis von 2D-Halbleitern realisiert. Eine Besonderheit dieser Bauteile ist, dass durch einfaches Biegen eine Verspannung des WS2-Kristalls hervorgerufen werden kann und somit die Farbe der Lichtemission mit -30 meV ε(%)‑1 verändert werden kann., Large scale light-emitting devices based on 2D semiconductors Two-dimensional (2D) materials represent an exciting new material class of conductors, semiconductors, and insulators. Atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), in particular the family (Mo, W)(S, Se)2, have attracted tremendous interest in recent years. Forming a direct bandgap for monolayer thickness (< 0.7 nm) and exhibiting exceptional excitonic effects, these 2D semiconductors represent promising compounds for future applications. Due to their naturally passivated surfaces and out-of-plane van der Waals interactions, TMDCs can be used to form heterostructures without lattice constraints. Consequently, TMDCs can serve as 2D building blocks for next-generation ultrathin optoelectronic devices. However, there are still main challenges on the route toward practical light-emitting devices based on TMDC materials: Although, various approaches toward light-emitting devices, e.g., based on exfoliated or chemical vapor deposited TMDC monolayers, have been reported, they all suffer from limited scalability and reproducibility required for industrial fabrication. Furthermore, the controlled fabrication of TMDCs is still a daunting challenge. Combining a scalable and reproducible fabrication route with a suitable and mature device architecture for light-emitting devices would be the next step toward 2D optoelectronics. Here, a novel LED architecture with a vertical and therefore scalable design is developed. This approach is based on embedding WS2 monolayers into a p-i–n layout using organic p- and inorganic n-supporting layers. In a first step of proof-of-concept, exfoliated WS2 monolayers were used. Laser lithography was applied to define the current path perpendicular to the WS2 flake. These devices exhibit diode-like behavior and emit room temperature electroluminescence (EL) with luminance up to 50 cd m−2 in the red spectral range. Scaling this device concept from the lab towards industrial relevant sizes, a large-scale TMDC growth with homogeneous properties is necessary. Serving this, MoS2 grown on 2 ’’ sapphire (0001) wafers via metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) are used. Here the relation between growth parameters and photoluminescence (PL) intensity, as one of the most important parameters for optoelectronic applications, will be discussed. A prebake step under H2 atmosphere combined with a reduced molybdenum precursor flow increases the crystal grain size by one order of magnitude and strongly enhances PL intensity with a clear correlation to the grain size. A decrease of the linewidths of both, Raman resonances and PL spectra, indicate a reduced defect density at optimized growth conditions. A transfer technique was developed to embed MOCVD WS2 monolayers into the vertical p-i‑n device architecture. Those devices show a rectifying behavior in I-V measurements. With an applied voltage, red EL over an area of 6 mm2 was observed, which is just limited by the size of the contact pads. A turn-on voltage of less than 2.5 V has been achieved, and a luminance of almost 1 cd m2 was obtained at a bias voltage of 7 V. By successful implementation of this concept onto foil substrates, the first large-area flexible light-emitting devices based on 2D materials were realized. Uniquely, the strong dependence of the WS2 bandgap on strain results in a tunable EL emission with a gauge factor of -30 meV ε(%)-1 simply by bending the device. These results pave the way to large-area 2D light-emitting devices that are easily processable and scalable for future ultrathin and flexible light concepts.

Programmierbare elektronische Systeme für sicherheitsgerichtete Anwendungen werden nach Prüfung durch Menschen sicherheitstechnisch abgenommen. Für den praktischen Einsatz können nur solche Systeme zertifiziert werden, die Menschen zuvor als weitestgehend frei von sicherheitskritischen Entwurfsfehlern befunden haben. Komplexität kommt hierbei eine besondere Bedeutung zu, da von ihr die Verstehbarkeit von Systementwürfen abhängt. Betriebsmitteladäquatheit ist ein essentielles Element zur Komplexitätsminimierung und hat darüber hinaus weitere, ausfalltolerierende Auswirkungen. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist daher, die im Entwurfslebenszyklus sicherheitsgerichteter programmierbarer elektronischer Systeme eingesetzten Methoden dahingehend zu verbessern, dass Komplexität durch konsequente Anwendung von Betriebsmitteladäquatheit reduziert wird. Dies führt zu verbesserter Prüfbarkeit und damit zu sichereren Systemen. Zunächst werden einige sicherheitskritische Vorfälle analysiert und Schwachstellen identifiziert. Dabei erweist sich zunehmende Komplexität als vorherrschendes Muster im aktuellen Systementwurf. Anschließend werden Anforderungen an Entwurfsmethoden aus geltenden Normen und bewährter Praxis erhoben. Anhand der Norm DIN EN 61508 wird gezeigt, dass ein Großteil der Anforderungen auf wenige einfache und universelle Entwurfsprinzipien zurückgeführt werden kann. Dies vereinfacht die Anforderungserhebung für künftige Entwürfe. Daraus und aus einem kritischen Überblick über den Stand der Technik wird ein Verbesserungsansatz entwickelt, der sich gesicherter Forschungsergebnisse der Kognitionswissenschaft bedient. Es wird ein Verfahren zur Bewertung der Domänenkomplexität anhand kognitiver Wahrnehmung und Verarbeitung vorgestellt. Praxisnahe Beispiele unterstützen, dieses zu erläutern und zu validieren. Unter Zuhilfenahme des Bewertungsverfahrens wird verdeutlicht, dass etablierte Spezifikationsdokumente, Rechnerarchitekturen und Betriebssysteme derart komplex sind, dass sie nur schwer verstanden werden können. Dies erhöht die Wahrscheinlichkeit verbleibender Entwurfsfehler und damit gefährlicher Ausfälle im Feld. Der etablierte Entwurfsprozess wird derart verbessert, dass sämtliche Hardwarebetriebsmittel aus Verhaltensentwürfen abgeleitet werden können. Damit entstehen den Spezifikationen angemessene Entwürfe, die exakt die Betriebsmittel aufweisen, die zur Gewährleistung vorhersehbaren, robusten und verstehbaren Systemverhaltens benötigt werden. Die Arbeit abschließend wird der verbesserte Prozess anhand der betrachteten Sicherheitsvorfälle, der erhobenen Anforderungen sowie der Praxisbeispiele evaluiert. Es wird deutlich, dass der verbesserte Ansatz die sicherheitstechnische Abnahme programmierbarer elektronischer Systeme durch Komplexitätsreduktion vereinfacht. Dies führt zu einem Gewinn an Sicherheit, da das Gefährdungsrisiko durch verbleibende sicherheitskritische Entwurfsfehler verringert wird., Programmable electronic systems for safety-related applications are safety-licensed after having been assessed by humans. For in-field use, only those systems can be licensed, which have been approved by humans to be free, to the greatest extent possible, of safety-critical design errors. Here, complexity is of special importance as the understandability of system designs depends on it. Resource adequacy is an essential element to minimise complexity, and to render further failure-tolerating effects. Thus, the objective of this work is to improve the methods used within the design lifecycle of safety-related programmable electronic systems to the end that complexity is reduced by consequent utilisation of resource adequacy. This leads to better verifiability and, hence, to safer systems. To begin with, some safety incidents are analysed and weaknesses identified. Increasing complexity turns out to be a prevailing pattern of contemporary systems. Then, requirements for design methods are elicited from technical standards and best practice. On the basis of the industrial standard IEC 61508 it is shown that the majority of requirements can be ascribed to few simple and universal design principles. This facilitates requirements elicitation for future designs. Thereof, and from a critical survey of the state of technology, an approach for im\-prove\-ment is developed that makes use of well-proven research results from cognitive science. A method for assessing domain complexity based on cognitive perception and mental processing is presented. Practical examples facilitate to explain and validate the method. With the help of the assessment method it is illustrated that established specification documents, computer architectures, and operating systems are complex to such an extent, that they can hardly be understood. This increases the probability of residual design errors, and of dangerous failures in the field. The established design process is improved in such a way that all hardware resources needed can be derived from behavioural designs. This leads to designs adequate to the specifications, which comprise exactly those resources needed to ensure predictable, robust and understandable system behaviour. Finally, the improved process is evaluated on the basis of the safety incidents considered before, the requirements elicited, and the practical examples. It becomes clear that the improved approach simplifies the safety licensing of programmable electronic systems by reducing complexity. This results in a gain of safety as the risk of residual safety-critical design errors is reduced.

Die visuelle Barrierefreiheit ist eine Voraussetzung dafür, dass Personen mit Seheinschränkungen selbstständig am öffentlichen Leben teilnehmen können. In Anforderungen und Normen gibt es deshalb Mindestkontraste und Vorgaben für die Reflexionsgrade der Materialen, mit denen die Sehobjekte realisiert werden müssen. Die Anforderungen an die Kontraste sind so groß, dass sie mit vielen Materialen nur schwer erfüllt werden können. Es ist bekannt, dass eine Optimierung der Beleuchtung dazu führt, dass auch weniger hohe Kontraste sicher erkannt werden. Dazu zählen die Erhöhung der Adaptations-Leuchtdichte und die Vermeidung von Blendung. Im Rahmen einer Forschung wurde ein Teststand entwickelt, mit dem die Parameter gezielt variiert werden können und an dem mit Testpersonen Untersuchungen zum Kontrastsehen durchgeführt werden. This article deals with a LCC-LCC compensated dynamic wireless power transfer system for electric vehicle charging applications. The presented prototype system allows for a power transfer of about 10 kW at 20 cm coil copper to copper distance. With just one circular pickup coil and a very straightforward control scheme, a new coil arrangement enables a seamless power transfer. Furthermore, the system’s design power level is easily adjustable by the size of the the pickup coil. The hardware architecture as well as the software functionality are described in detail. A 20 m test track was built up according to the outlined principle. By measuring the transmitted power, the efficiency and the interference between the primary segments and its effect on the inverter currents are examined. Although partial discharge (PD) measurement is a well-accepted technology to assess the quality of the insulation system of power transformers, there are still uncertainties about which frequency range PDs radiate and which frequency range should be evaluated in a measurement. This paper discusses both a UHF PD frequency range obtained from studies investigating laboratory experiments and a frequency range from numerous practical use cases with online and on-site measurements. The literature review reveals a frequency spectrum of ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) PD measurements in the range of 200 MHz to 1 GHz for most publications. Newer publications extend this range from 3 to 6 GHz. The use cases present UHF PD measurements at transformers with power ratings up to 1000 MVA to determine frequency ranges which are considered effective for practical applications. The “common” frequency range, where measurements from all use cases provide signal power, is from approximately 400 MHz to 900 MHz, but it is noted that the individual frequency range, as well as the peak UHF signal power, strongly varies from case to case. We conclude from the discussed laboratory experiments and practical observations that UHF PD measurements in power transformers using either valve or window antennas, according to Cigré, are feasible methods to detect PD.

Метою даної наукової роботи є забезпечення виявлення джерел ІЧ-випромінювання на тлі завад за рахунок використання запропонованої в магістерській дисертації методики їх детектування з використанням апарату нечіткого виведення. Основним призначенням пристрою є автоматизація процесу детектування джерел ІЧ-випромінювання серед інших радіовипромінювань та можливість налаштувати пристрій на пошук ІЧ-підсвітки конкретної камери. У дисертації були викладені основі теоретичні викладки по ключовим поняттям, проведений огляд існуючих на ринку аналогів, розроблений нечіткий логічний контролер та алгоритм його роботи. Також була розроблена, власне, методика детектуванням з застосуванням нечіткої логіки. І в пункті стартап-проект був представлений аналіз ринку та сфер для можливої майбутньої реалізації даної методики. The master's thesis consists of an explanatory note of 53 pages containing 25 figures, 4 tables, 2 appendices and 21 references. The purpose of this scientific work is to develop a technique for detecting sources of infrared radiation with a fuzzy logical conclusion. The main purpose of the device is the automation of the process of detecting sources of IR radiation among other radio emissions and the ability to configure the device to search for the IR illumination of a specific camera. In the dissertation, theoretical explanations of key concepts were laid out, a review of analogs existing on the market was carried out, a fuzzy logic controller and an algorithm of its operation were developed. In fact, a method of detection using fuzzy logic was also developed. And in the startup project section, an analysis of the market and areas for possible future implementation of this technique was presented.

The demand for electric machines has been rising steadily for several years-mainly due to the move away from the combustion engine. Synchronous motors with rare earth permanent magnets are widely used due to their high power densities. These magnets are cost-intensive, cost-sensitive and often environmentally harmful. In addition to dispensing with permanent magnets, electrically excited synchronous machines offer the advantage of an adjustable excitation and, thus, a higher efficiency in the partial load range in field weakening operation. Field weakening operation is relevant for the application of vehicle traction drive. The challenge of this machine type is the need for an electrical power transfer system, usually achieved with slip rings. Slip rings wear out, generate dust and are limited in power density and maximum speed due to vibrations. This article addresses an electrically excited synchronous machine with a wireless power transfer onto the rotor. From the outset, the machine is designed with a wireless power transfer system for use in a medium-sized electric vehicle. As an example, the requirements are derived from the BMW’s i3. The wireless power transfer system is integrated into the hollow shaft of the rotor. Unused space is thus utilized. The overall system is optimized for high efficiency, especially for partial load at medium speed, with an operation point-depending optimization method. The results are compared with the reference permanent magnet excited machine. A prototype of the machine is built and measured on the test bench. The measured efficiency of the inductive electrically excited synchronous machine is up to 4% higher than that of the reference machine of the Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW) i3., Vector Stiftung

Für mobile Roboter, die sich in für Menschen gemachten Umgebungen bewegen, um diese zu unterstützen und durch die Übernahme von Arbeitsaufgaben zu entlasten, sind omnidirektionale Fahrwerke mit ihrer hohen Beweglichkeit von großem Vorteil. Allerdings sind nur Fahrwerke mit gelenkten Rädern in der Lage, sich sicher auf unebenen Untergründen zu bewegen. Derzeitige Fahrwerke mit gelenkten Rädern sind jedoch häufig nicht im Bauraum optimiert. Zudem fehlen in der Regel eine Federung und die Möglichkeit, das Rad unbegrenzt um die Lenkachse drehen zu können. Dies sind zwei wichtige Voraussetzungen, um dynamische Fahrmanöver auszuführen und die Herausforderungen der Einsatzumgebungen zu meistern. Die vorliegende Arbeit befasst sich daher mit der Untersuchung, welche konstruktiven Teillösungen für die Gestaltung besonders kompakter Fahrwerke mit gelenkten Standardrädern geeignet sind. Zielsysteme waren mobile Roboter mit einem Gesamtgewicht zwischen 150 kg und 300 kg, die beispielsweise mit einem Roboterarm für Manipulationsaufgaben ausgestattet sein können. Weiterhin bestand das Ziel dieser Arbeit in der Entwicklung mehrerer Antriebsmodulprototypen und deren anschließender Evaluierung. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, wurde zunächst der Stand der Technik betrachtet, eine Anforderungsanalyse durchgeführt und die Anforderungen quantifiziert und kategorisiert. Anschließend wurden Lösungsprinzipien für alle relevanten Teilkomponenten eines Antriebsmoduls identifiziert und diskutiert. Darauf aufbauend wurden zwei Lösungskonzepte gebildet, jeweils eine für die Konstruktion eines Antriebsmoduls mit einem Rad und eines Antriebsmoduls mit zwei Rädern. Eine Evaluierung aller Anforderungen, die zu diesem Zeitpunkt bereits bewertet werden konnten, zeigte, dass die beiden Konstruktionen alle Muss-Anforderungen und die überwiegende Mehrzahl der Wunsch-Anforderungen erfüllen. Zudem fielen die beiden Antriebsmodule sowohl in der Bauhöhe als auch im Durchmesser deutlich kompakter aus, als vergleichbare Konstruktionen aus dem Stand der Technik. Die zwei Antriebsmodule wurden schließlich gefertigt, aufgebaut und in Betrieb genommen. Anschließend erfolgte eine Prüfung der Funktionstauglichkeit und die Evaluierung hinsichtlich der verbleibenden Forderungen und Wünsche in praktischen Tests. Auch hier konnten nahezu alle Anforderungen vollständig erfüllt werden und somit die Tauglichkeit der entwickelten Antriebsmodule für den praktischen Einsatz nachgewiesen werden. Ein Vergleich der beiden Konzepte zeigte dabei, dass diese jeweils unterschiedliche Stärken und Schwächen haben, so dass je nach Einsatzgebiet entweder die eine oder die andere Variante bevorzugt werden sollte., For mobile robots, operating in environments made for humans to support them and to disburden them by taking over tasks, omnidirectional undercarriages with their high maneuverability are a substantial advantage. To move safely on uneven terrain, only undercarriages with steered wheels are suitable. Current undercarriages with steered wheels are however often not optimized in terms of constructed space. In addition, a suspension and the possibility to rotate the wheel around the steer axis without restriction are often missing. These are two important prerequisites to perform dynamic driving maneuvers and to master the challenges of the use environments. The presented thesis therefore deals with the analysis, which partial solutions are suitable for the design of particularly compact undercarriages with steered standard wheels. Target systems were robots with an overall weight of 150 kg to 300 kg, which can for example be equipped with a robot arm for manipulation tasks. Furthermore, the goal of this thesis was to develop several prototypes of drive modules and their subsequent evaluation. To reach this goal, first the state of the art was examined, a requirement analysis was performed and the requirements were quantified and categorized. After that, solution principles for all relevant sub-parts of a drive module were identified and discussed. Based on this, two solution concepts were formed, one for a drive module with one wheel and one for a drive module with two wheels. An evaluation of all requirements that could be assessed at that time showed, that both designs fulfill all shall-requirements and the vast majority of should-requirements. In addition, both drive modules were considerably more compact in height and diameter than similar designs from the state of the art. Finally, the two drive modules were manufactured, assembled and commissioned. This was followed by an assessment of the functional ability and a practical evaluation with respect to the remaining shall and should requirements. Again, almost all requirements could be fully satisfied and thus the feasibility for practical use be proved. A comparison of the two concepts showed that both have individual strengths and weaknesses, so that depending on the application one or the other should be preferred.
