Clinical investigations showed that individuals with Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) have worse Neurological Disease (ND) development, pointing to possible pathogenic relationships between AUD and NDs. It remains difficult to identify risk factors that are predisposing between AUD and NDs. In order to fix these issues, we created the bioinformatics pipeline and network-based approaches for employing unbiased methods to discover genes abnormally stated in both AUD and NDs and to pinpoint some of the common molecular pathways that might underlie AUD and ND interaction. We found 100 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in both the AUD and ND patient's tissue samples. The most important Gene Ontology (GO) terms and metabolic pathways, including positive control of cytotoxicity caused by T cells, proinflammatory responses, antigen processing and presentation, and platelet-triggered interactions with vascular and circulating cell pathways were then extracted using the overlapped DEGs. Protein-protein interaction analysis was used to identify hub proteins, including CCL2, IL1B, TH, MYCN, HLA-DRB1, SLC17A7, and HNF4A, in the pathways that have been reported as playing a function in these disorders. We determined several TFs (HNF4A, C4A, HLA-B, SNCA, HLA-DMB, SLC17A7, HLA-DRB1, HLA-C, HLA-A, and HLA-DPB1) and potential miRNAs (hsa-mir-34a-5p, hsa-mir-34c-5p, hsa-mir-449a, hsa-mir-155-5p, and hsa-mir-1-3p) were crucial for regulating the expression of AUD and ND which could serve as prospective targets for treatment. Our methodologies discovered unique putative biomarkers that point to the interaction between AUD and various neurological disorders, as well as pathways that could one day be the focus of therapeutic intervention. This article represents the empirical modeling for thermal conductivity of cis-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene (R1234ze(Z)) with new experimental measurements conducted in liquid and vapor phases using the well-established transient hot-wire method. These new experimental data, covering a temperature range of 313 to 414 K for liquid and 354 to 452 K for vapor phase at a pressure range of 0.20 to 4.0 MPa, have an expanded uncertainty of less than 2.17% for liquid and 2.41 % for vapor measurements at a 95 % confidence level (k = 2). The thermal conductivity model of this fluid is presented using the extended corresponding states (ECS) and modified fluid specific residual entropy scaling (RES) techniques with the help of recently published respective viscosity models. Using the adjustable parameters found during the modeling process, the extended corresponding states and the residual entropy scaling technique model equations can represent the experimental data within reported uncertainties. Bangladesh is characterized by a high demand for skilled workers. Hence, the significance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) becomes crucial to address the existing skill gaps to stimulate economic development. This research addresses the major challenges that hinder the progress of TVET in Bangladesh. This study adopts a mixed-method approach to investigate thoroughly the fundamental aspects of TVET’s capacity to provide high-quality skills development programs with an aim to increase its graduates’ employability. This study finds that individuals, upon their graduation from TVET institutions, face significant obstacles in the job market. These challenges, as the research finds, arise primarily due to discrepancies between graduates’ skills and job market demands. This study also examines the local TVET issues in Bangladesh, offers valuable insights and policy recommendations to address skill deficits, ensure sustainable employment for TVET graduates, and enhance economic development in developing nations.. Background and objectives: Hypertension (HTN), a major global health concern, is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease, premature death and disability, worldwide. It is important to develop an automated system to diagnose HTN at an early stage. Therefore, this study devised a machine learning (ML) system for predicting patients with the risk of developing HTN in Ethiopia. Materials and methods: The HTN data was taken from Ethiopia, which included 612 respondents with 27 factors. We employed Boruta-based feature selection method to identify the important risk factors of HTN. The four well-known models [logistics regression, artificial neural network, random forest, and extreme gradient boosting (XGB)] were developed to predict HTN patients on the training set using the selected risk factors. The performances of the models were evaluated by accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and area under the curve (AUC) on the testing set. Additionally, the SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) method is one of the explainable artificial intelligences (XAI) methods, was used to investigate the associated predictive risk factors of HTN. Results: The overall prevalence of HTN patients is 21.2%. This study showed that XGB-based model was the most appropriate model for predicting patients with the risk of HTN and achieved the accuracy of 88.81%, precision of 89.62%, recall of 97.04%, F1-score of 93.18%, and AUC of 0. 894. The XBG with SHAP analysis reveal that age, weight, fat, income, body mass index, diabetes mulitas, salt, history of HTN, drinking, and smoking were the associated risk factors of developing HTN. Conclusions: The proposed framework provides an effective tool for accurately predicting individuals in Ethiopia who are at risk for developing HTN at an early stage and may help with early prevention and individualized treatment. Abdominal pain, including visceral pain, is prevalent in functional gastrointestinal (GI) disorders (FGIDs), affecting the overall quality of a patient's life. Neural circuits in the brain encode, store, and transfer pain information across brain regions. Ascending pain signals actively shape brain dynamics; in turn, the descending system responds to the pain through neuronal inhibition. Pain processing mechanisms in patients are currently mainly studied with neuroimaging techniques; however, these techniques have a relatively poor temporal resolution. A high temporal resolution method is warranted to decode the dynamics of the pain processing mechanisms. Here, we reviewed crucial brain regions that exhibited pain-modulatory effects in an ascending and descending manner. Moreover, we discussed a uniquely well-suited method, namely extracellular electrophysiology, that captures natural language from the brain with high spatiotemporal resolution. This approach allows parallel recording of large populations of neurons in interconnected brain areas and permits the monitoring of neuronal firing patterns and comparative characterization of the brain oscillations. In addition, we discussed the contribution of these oscillations to pain states. In summary, using innovative, state-of-the-art methods, the large-scale recordings of multiple neurons will guide us to better understanding of pain mechanisms in FGIDs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The study aims to appraise the impact of service quality dimensions on user satisfaction in Bangladeshi public university libraries using structural equation modeling (SEM). Design/methodology/approach: This study developed an SEM method based on SERVQUAL, LibQUAL+ and SERVPERF instruments, including 30 items under five service quality dimensions and eight satisfaction items with the 7-point Likert scale to appraise the impact of library service quality dimensions on user satisfaction. For this purpose, a survey was carried out among 437 students, 52 MPhil/PhD researchers and 32 teachers of the nine selected public university libraries of Bangladesh through a structured questionnaire. The SEM approach included path analysis, confirmatory and exploratory factor analysis, as well as construct reliability and validity where user satisfaction was used as the dependent variable, and five service quality dimensions were applied as independent variables. Findings: This model was identified as significant and clarified 58% of the total variation in user satisfaction. The study findings indicated that resources of the libraries, staff competence, demeanor approach and tangible facilities of the public university libraries have a significant impact on user satisfaction. Originality/value: An initiative has been taken for the first time to ascertain the impact of library service quality on user satisfaction applying the SEM approach in Bangladesh. Pyrazole, an important pharmacophore and a privileged scaffold of immense significance, is a five-membered heterocyclic moiety with an extensive therapeutic profile, viz., anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-anxiety, anticancer, analgesic, antipyretic, etc. Due to the expansion of pyrazolecent red pharmacological molecules at a quicker pace, there is an urgent need to put emphasis on recent literature with hitherto available information to recognize the status of this scaffold for pharmaceutical research. The reported potential pyrazole-containing compounds are highlighted in the manuscript for the treatment of cancer and inflammation, and the results are mentioned in % inhibition of inflammation, % growth inhibition, IC50, etc. Pyrazole is an important heterocyclic moiety with a strong pharmacological profile, which may act as an important pharmacophore for the drug discovery process. In the struggle to cultivate suitable anti-inflammatory and anticancer agents, chemists have now focused on pyrazole biomolecules. This study aimed to estimate arsenic (As) and iron (Fe) content in tubewell water (n = 58) in primary educational institutions and subsequently assess the health risks to school-going children. Results described that the As concentration ranged between 0.002 and 0.994 mg L−1 with an average value of 0.044 mg L−1; which exceeded the World Health Organization (WHO) provisional guideline value of 0.01 mg L−1. Similarly, the Fe content varied from 0.05 to 10 mg L−1 averaging to 2.84 mg L−1. Samples of 55.17% contained a greater As concentration than 0.01 mg L−1 and 18.97% greater than Bangladesh drinking water quality (BDWQ) standard of 0.05 mg L−1, respectively. Meanwhile, 75.86% of samples contained a higher Fe concentration than the maximum Bangladesh permissible limit of 1 mg L−1. Health risk assessment indicated that girls are more vulnerable than boys are. The average hazard quotients (HQs) for As intake through drinking water were 6.01 ± 17.85 and 7.41 ± 22.03 for boys and girls, respectively, implying non-carcinogenic health risks to both genders. The HQs for Fe intake were less than threshold value of 1 indicating no health issues may arise from Fe intake alone. However, consumption of As and Fe may trigger health risks to students as indicated by the hazard index (HI), which was higher than 1. The average cancer risk (CR) values for both boys (0.0027 ± 0.008) and girls (0.0033 ± 0.0099) exceeded the threshold limit of 10–6–10–4, suggesting a possibility of lifetime cancer risks to the school-going children. Consequently, school authorities should find alternative ways to ensure safe drinking water for school-going children to avoid possible cancer and non-cancer health risks through consumption of As-poisoning water. Background and objective: Low birth weight (LBW) is a major risk factor of child mortality and morbidity during infancy (0–3 years) and early childhood (3–8 years) in low and lower-middle-income countries, including Bangladesh. LBW is a vital public health concern in Bangladesh. The objective of the research was to investigate the socioeconomic inequality in the prevalence of LBW among singleton births and identify the significantly associated determinants of singleton LBW in Bangladesh. Materials and methods: The data utilized in this research was derived from the latest nationally representative Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey, 2017–18, and included a total of 2327 respondents. The concentration index (C-index) and concentration curve were used to investigate the socioeconomic inequality in LBW among the singleton newborn babies. Additionally, an adjusted binary logistic regression model was utilized for calculating adjusted odds ratio and p-value (<0.05) to identify the significant determinants of LBW. Results: The overall prevalence of LBW among singleton births in Bangladesh was 14.27%. We observed that LBW rates were inequitably distributed across the socioeconomic groups (C-index: -0.096, 95% confidence interval: [-0.175, -0.016], P = 0.029), with a higher concentration of LBW infants among mothers living in the lowest wealth quintile (poorest). Regression analysis revealed that maternal age, region, maternal education level, wealth index, height, age at 1st birth, and the child's aliveness (alive or died) at the time of the survey were significantly associated determinants of LBW in Bangladesh. Conclusion: In this study, socioeconomic disparity in the prevalence of singleton LBW was evident in Bangladesh. Incidence of LBW might be reduced by improving the socioeconomic status of poor families, paying special attention to mothers who have no education and live in low-income households in the eastern divisions (e.g., Sylhet, Chittagong). The pelagic shrimp Lucensosergia lucens is a commercially important species in Japan, predominantly harvested in Suruga Bay. It has been suggested that a marked decrease in the wild population over recent years is associated with an increased concentration of suspended particles. We tested the hypothesis that suspended inorganic particles (kaolinite) negatively affect the hatching ratio of fertilized eggs, and the survival, growth, and metamorphosis of nauplius and elaphocaris larvae. The relative hatching ratio of eggs decreased from 100 to 57.7% at 139 mg L−1 of kaolinite particles. Similarly, the relative survival ratio of nauplius larvae progressively decreased from 100% in filtered seawater to 73.6% after 72 h of exposure to 139 mg L−1 of kaolinite particles. Consequently, the survival ratio of elaphocaris larvae was greatly reduced at high particle concentrations. Exponential growth in the standard lengths of elaphocaris larvae occurred at particle concentrations < 6.9 mg L−1, but growth was inhibited at kaolinite concentrations > 20 mg L−1. Graduate employability is a multifaceted concept considering the Sustainable Development Goals. Graduate employability and skills development are also significant determinants for future career success. Graduate employability has seen more sweeping emphasis and concerns in national and global job markets, due to the ever-rising number of unemployed people, which has increased even more due to COVID-19. Due to its importance, this study investigates the current state of skill development initiatives in Bangladesh and the perceptions of university graduates regarding skill development for their future employability. This study uses mixed-method research. Data was collected through surveys and in-depth interviews; various probabilistic and non-probabilistic sample selection methods were used. A total of 437 participants responded to this study. After analysis, the data was shown descriptively. The empirical findings of this study demonstrated that university graduates are well-aware of the skill development requirements for their future employability. However, university graduates face many obstacles in acquiring these necessary skill development opportunities. Therefore, the government and relevant stakeholders must work together to alleviate the obstacles. Furthermore, this study includes recommendations that can assist in developing a model for skill development programs and initiatives in the country for university graduates to ensure their future employability. This study aimed to explore peoples' perception on rules-in-use and interaction among actors in a community-based peatland restoration program (CBPRP) in Raja Muja Forest Reserve (RMFR) of peninsular Malaysia. We followed Ostrom's institutional analysis and development framework, and collected both qualitative and quantitative data through organizing a stakeholders' workshop, 200 structured interviews, four focus group discussions and five key informants' interviews. Local people claimed that there was significant decline in their rights to access forests (χ2 = 49.42, p =.001), extraction of forest resources (χ2 = 53.02, p =.001), recreational (χ2 = 10.32, p =.001) and agricultural uses (χ2 = 4.35, p =.05) due to change in governance regimes from state forest management toward CBPRP. However, CBPRP introduced several social development programs for local community. This study identified 44 actors under seven categories, and only two actors (Selangor State Forestry Department and Global Environment Center, an NGO) played significant roles in decision-making process and interacted with other actors in peatland restoration actions. Community people had only participated in the implementation of rehabilitation actions. In order to sustain community development and sustainable management of RMFR, we suggest to reform multi-stakeholder governance structure that ensures active participation of local community people. Some (E)-3-(3-(4-(benzyloxy)phenyl)-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-1-phenylprop-2-en-1-one conjugates 5a–r were designed; synthesized; characterized by 1H, 13C NMR, and ESI-MS; and evaluated for tubulin polymerization inhibitory activity and in vitro cytotoxicity against breast (MCF-7), cervical (SiHa), and prostate (PC-3) cancer cell lines, as well as a normal cell line (HEK-293T). The compounds were also tested to determine their binding modes at the colchicine-binding site of tubulin protein (PDB ID-3E22), for in silico ADME prediction, for bioactivity study, and for PASS prediction studies. Among all the synthesized conjugates, compound 5o exhibited excellent cytotoxicity with an IC50 value of 2.13 ± 0.80 µM (MCF-7), 4.34 ± 0.98 µM (SiHa), and 4.46 ± 0.53 µM (PC-3) against cancer cell lines. The compound did not exhibit significant toxicity to the HEK cells. Results of the in silico prediction revealed that the majority of the conjugates possessed drug-like properties. Lamins are inner nuclear membrane proteins that belong to the intermediate filament family. Lamin A/C lie adjacent to the heterochromatin structure in polymer form, providing skeletal to the nucleus. Based on the localization, lamin A/C provides nuclear stability and cytoskeleton to the nucleus and modulates chromatin organization and gene expression. Besides being the structural protein making the inner nuclear membrane in polymer form, lamin A/C functions as a signalling molecule involved in gene expression as an enhancer inside the nucleus. Lamin A/C regulates various cellular pathways like autophagy and energy balance in the cytoplasm. Its expression is highly variable in differentiated tissues, higher in hard tissues like bone and muscle cells, and lower in soft tissues like the liver and brain. In muscle cells, including the heart, lamin A/C must be expressed in a balanced state. Lamin A/C mutation is linked with various diseases, such as muscular dystrophy, lipodystrophy, and cardiomyopathies. It has been observed that a good number of mutations in the LMNA gene impact cardiac activity and its function. Although several works have been published, there are still several unexplored areas left regarding the lamin A/C function and structure in the cardiovascular system and its pathological state. In this review, we focus on the structural organization, expression pattern, and function of lamin A/C, its interacting partners, and the pathophysiology associated with mutations in the lamin A/C gene, with special emphasis on cardiovascular diseases. With the recent finding on lamin A/C, we have summarized the possible therapeutic interventions to treat cardiovascular symptoms and reverse the molecular changes. In this work, the viscosity of R1234ze(Z) is measured in liquid and vapor phases by the method of tandem capillary tubes. The viscosity measurements were performed from 0.5 to 4.08 MPa pressure over a temperature ranges from 313.74 to 414.31 K at liquid and 354.07 to 455.80 K at vapor phase. Total expanded uncertainties of the viscosity measurement with k = 2 and 95% confidence level in liquid and vapor phase are lower than ±2.19% and ±2.59%, respectively. Viscosities at saturation conditions are estimated from experimental measurement data by the extrapolation method. In genome-wide quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping studies, multiple quantitative traits are often measured along with the marker genotypes. Multi-trait QTL (MtQTL) analysis, which includes multiple quantitative traits together in a single model, is an efficient technique to increase the power of QTL identification. The two most widely used classical approaches for MtQTL mapping are Gaussian Mixture Model-based MtQTL (GMM-MtQTL) and Linear Regression Model-based MtQTL (LRM-MtQTL) analyses. There are two types of LRM-MtQTL approach known as least squares-based LRM-MtQTL (LS-LRM-MtQTL) and maximum likelihood-based LRM-MtQTL (ML-LRM-MtQTL). These three classical approaches are equivalent alternatives for QTL detection, but ML-LRM-MtQTL is computationally faster than GMM-MtQTL and LS-LRM-MtQTL. However, one major limitation common to all the above classical approaches is that they are very sensitive to outliers, which leads to misleading results. Therefore, in this study, we developed an LRM-based robust MtQTL approach, called LRM-RobMtQTL, for the backcross population based on the robust estimation of regression parameters by maximizing the β-likelihood function induced from the β-divergence with multivariate normal distribution. When β = 0, the proposed LRM-RobMtQTL method reduces to the classical ML-LRM-MtQTL approach. Simulation studies showed that both ML-LRM-MtQTL and LRM-RobMtQTL methods identified the same QTL positions in the absence of outliers. However, in the presence of outliers, only the proposed method was able to identify all the true QTL positions. Real data analysis results revealed that in the presence of outliers only our LRM-RobMtQTL approach can identify all the QTL positions as those identified in the absence of outliers by both methods. Background: In Bangladesh, riverbank erosion is a major problem that regularly displaces millions of people and affects their mental health every year. Objectives: The primary objective is to explore the effects of riverbank erosion on mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, and stress in Bangladesh. Methods: We conducted a household survey from August 2019 to November 2019 on randomly selected adult respondents from Rajbari District located along the Ganges River and Tangail District located along the Brahmaputra River. The respondents were divided into two groups: exposed and non-exposed to riverbank erosion. All participants were asked to complete self-reported questionnaires on the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21, and other socio-demographic, economic and riverbanks erosion-related factors. We performed Chi-squared test and multiple logistic regression analysis to explore the significant risk factors (P<0.05) of mental illness (depression, anxiety and stress). Results: We surveyed 611 households, of whom 410 were from Rajbari and 201 were from Tangail. Among 611 respondents, 509 (83.31%) were exposed by riverbank erosion whereas 102 (16.69%) were non-exposed. The prevalence of depression, anxiety and stress (DAS) was 38.30%, 76.60%, 32.41%, respectively, and they were significantly higher among the exposed group than the non-exposed group (depression: 45.19% versus 3.92%, P<0.001; anxiety: 82.71% versus 46.08%, P<0.001; stress: 38.11% versus 3.92%, P<0.001). The respondents exposed to river erosion were respectively 8.28, 2.26 and 5.09 times more likely to develop DAS disorder compared to their non-exposed counterparts (ORD = 8.28, 95% CI = 2.75–24.89; ORA = 2.26, 95% CI = 1.31–3.88; ORS = 5.09, 95% CI = 1.64–15.76). Females and those who lost their houses and displaced, were more likely to have DAS disorder compared to their respective counterparts. Conclusions: The exposed people were more likely to experience mental health problem and demand some social safety net programs with special focus on female and those who lost houses and displaced. Platelets are one of the key mediators in thrombosis as well as in the progression of many diseases. An increase in platelet activation and a decrease in platelet count is associated with a plethora of liver diseases. In non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), platelets are highly activated and participate in the disease progression by enhancing the pro-thrombotic and pro-inflammatory state. Some altered platelet parameters such as mean platelet volume, plateletcrits, and platelet distribution width, aspartate transaminase to platelet ratio index, liver stiffness to platelet ratio and red cell distribution width to platelet ratio were found to be associated with NAFLD disease. Further, platelet contributes to the progression of cardiovascular complications in NAFLD is gaining the researcher's attention. An elevated mean platelet volume is known to enhance the risk of stroke, atherosclerosis, thrombosis, and myocardial infarction in NAFLD. Evidence also suggested that modulation in platelet function using aspirin, ticlopidine, and cilostazol help in controlling the NAFLD progression. Future research should focus on antiplatelet therapy as a treatment strategy that can control platelet activation in NAFLD as well as its cardiovascular risk. In the present review, we have detailed the role of platelets in NAFLD and its cardiovascular complications. We further aimed to highlight the growing need for antiplatelet therapy in NAFLD. The severity and frequency of extremes are changing; thus, it is becoming necessary to evaluate the impacts of land cover changes and urbanisation along with climate change. A framework of the Generalised Extreme Value (GEV) method, Google Earth Engine (GEE), and land cover patterns' classification including Random Forest (RF) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) can be useful for streamflow impact analysis. For this study, we developed a unique framework consisting of a hydrological model in line with the Process-informed Nonstationary Extreme Value Analysis (ProNEVA) GEV model and an ensemble of General Circulation Models (GCMs), mapping land cover patterns using classification methods within the GEE platform. We applied these methods in Southeast Queensland (SEQ) to analyse the maximum instantaneous floods in non-stationary catchment conditions, considering the physical system in terms of cause and effect. Independent variables (DEM, population, slope, roads, and distance from roads) and an integrated RF, SVM methodology were utilised as spatial maps to predict their influences on land cover changes for the near and far future. The results indicated that physical factors significantly influence the layout of landscapes. First, the values of projected evapotranspiration and rainfall were extracted from the multi-model ensemble to investigate the eight GCMs under two climate change scenarios (RCP4.5 and RCP8.5). The AWBM hydrological model was calibrated with daily streamflow and applied to generate historical runoff for 1990–2010. Runoff was projected under two scenarios for eight GCMs and by incorporating the percentage of each land cover into the hydrological model for two horizons (2020–2065 and 2066–2085). Following that, the ProNEVA model was used to calculate the frequency and magnitude of runoff extremes across the parameter space. The maximum peak flood differences under the RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios were 16.90% and 15.18%, respectively. The outcomes of this study suggested that neglecting the non-stationary assumption in flood frequency can lead to underestimating the amounts that can lead to more risks for the related hydraulic structures. This framework is adaptable to various geographical regions to estimate extreme conditions, offering valuable insights for infrastructure design, planning, risk assessment, and the sustainable management of future water resources in the context of long-term water management plans. Diet and the gut microbiota have a profound influence on physiology and health, however, mechanisms are still emerging. Here we outline several pathways that gut microbiota products, particularly short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), use to maintain gut and immune homeostasis. Dietary fibre is fermented by the gut microbiota in the colon, and large quantities of SCFAs such as acetate, propionate, and butyrate are produced. Dietary fibre and SCFAs enhance epithelial integrity and thereby limit systemic endotoxemia. Moreover, SCFAs inhibit histone deacetylases (HDAC), and thereby affect gene transcription. SCFAs also bind to 'metabolite-sensing' G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) such as GPR43, which promotes immune homeostasis. The enormous amounts of SCFAs produced in the colon are sufficient to lower pH, which affects the function of proton sensors such as GPR65 expressed on the gut epithelium and immune cells. GPR65 is an anti-inflammatory Gα s -coupled receptor, which leads to the inhibition of inflammatory cytokines. The importance of GPR65 in inflammatory diseases is underscored by genetics associated with the missense variant I231L (rs3742704), which is associated with human inflammatory bowel disease, atopic dermatitis, and asthma. There is enormous scope to manipulate these pathways using specialized diets that release very high amounts of specific SCFAs in the gut, and we believe that therapies that rely on chemically modified foods is a promising approach. Such an approach includes high SCFA-producing diets, which we have shown to decrease numerous inflammatory western diseases in mouse models. Sirtuins are the endogenously present anti-aging protein deacetylases that regulate the mitochondrial biogenesis and function. Especially Sirt3, a mitochondrial sirtuin, is well known for maintaining mitochondrial function and health. In the present study, we have explored the novel role of Sirt3 in mitochondrial biogenesis and shown the role of Sirt3 in mito-nuclear communication through AMPK-α in Sirt3 knockdown and Sirt3 overexpressed H9c2 cells. The study found that impaired mitochondrial function in Sirt3-knockdown H9c2 cells was associated with decreased expression of mitochondrial DNA encoded genes, reduced SOD2 expression and activity. The study also revealed that Sirt3 knockdown affects mitochondrial biogenesis and dynamics. To further confirm the role of Sirt3 on mitochondrial biogenesis and health, we did Sirt3 overexpression in H9c2 cells. Sirt3 overexpression enhanced the expression of mitochondrial DNA encoded genes, increased SOD2 activity and altered mitochondrial dynamics. Sirt3 overexpression also caused an increase in mitochondrial biogenesis gene and protein (PGC-1α and TFAM) expression. All these changes were confirmed with mitochondrial functional parameters like basal respiration, maximal respiratory capacity, spare respiratory capacity and ATP production. We found decreased mitochondrial function in Sirt3-knockdown H9c2 cells when compared to control H9c2 cells. Together our data conclude that Sirt3 regulates cardiac mitochondrial health and function through the Sirt3-AMPKα-PGC-1α axis. Orange fleshed sweet potatoes (OFSP) are desirable for high productivity and profitability and their distribution to improve the nutrition of river bank inhabitants of Gaibandha and Rangpur districts of Bangladesh. In this context, a field trial was conducted in two riverbank-based farmers' fields such as Saghata, Gaibandha, and Pirganj, Rangpur, particularly in the Active Tista Floodplain Agro-ecological Zone of Bangladesh. Four OFSP varieties were evaluated, i.e., G1: BARI SP-8; G2: BARI SP-12; G3: BARI SP-14; G4: BARI SP-15, along with one local cultivar as a control (Red skin with white flesh). Significant variations among the sweet potato genotypes were noted for a number of tuberous roots plant−1, length of root diameter of roots, tuberous root weight plant−1, root yield (fresh), root yield (dry), beta-carotene yield, as well as energy output. Over the locations, BARI SP-12 produced about 73% higher root yield (32.00 t ha−1) and it was like the BARI SP-8 (31.07 t ha−1), which produced about 68% higher yield in comparison with local cultivar (18.51 t ha−1). Across the location, BARI SP-8 performed better in root yield (31.89 t ha−1) in Gaibandha, 69% superior to local cultivar, whereas BARI SP-12 performed better in Rangpur (33.66 t ha−1), which was 86% greater than the local sweet potato cultivar. Considering the root dry yield production, BARI SP-8 produced the highest in the Gaibandha location after that Rangpur location. Further, BARI SP-14 had wider adaptability and stability over the year and location depended on the AMMI model. The beta carotene yield (Vitamin-A precursor) ranged 336–2957 kg ha−1 among the OFSP varieties, whereas the highest (2957 kg ha−1) carotene was recorded in BARI SP-14, similar to BARI SP-15 (2952 kg ha−1) but was much lower in BARI SP-8 and BARI SP-12. Moreover, BARI SP-8 and BARI SP-12 were also economically profitable in terms of gross margin (3233 and 3364 US$ ha−1, respectively), net return (3039 and 3170 US$ ha−1, respectively) and BCR (3.21 and 3.31, respectively, vs. 1.91) due to higher returns with a similar production cost of the local cultivar. Nutrient pollution is one of the major issues in water resources management, which has drawn significant investments into the development of many modelling tools to solve pollution problems worldwide. However, the situation remains unchanged, even likely to be exacerbated due to population growth and climate change. Effective measures to alleviate the issues are essential, dependent upon existing modelling tools' capacities. More complex models have been developed with technological advancement, though applications are mainly limited to academic reach. Hence, there is a need for a paradigm shift in policymaking that looks for a reliable modelling approach. This paper aims to assess the capacity of existing modelling tools in the context of process-based modelling and provide a future direction in research. The article has categorically divided models into plot scale to basin-wide applications for evaluation and discussed the pros and cons of conceptual and process-based modelling. The potential benefits of distributed modelling approach have been elaborated with highlights of a newly developed distributed model and its application in catchments in Japan and Australia. The distributed model is more adequate for predicting the realistic details of pollution problems in a changing environment. Future research needs to focus on more process-based modelling. Ferroelectric negative capacitance materials have now been proposed for lowering electronics energy dissipation beyond basic limitations. In this paper, we presented the analysis on the performance of negative capacitance (NC) FinFET in comparison with conventional gate dielectrics by using a separation of variables approach, which is an optimal quasi-3D mathematical model. The result has been signified steeper surface potential (ψ), lower threshold voltage (Vth), 1.2 mA of on-state current (Ion), and enhanced immunity of negative capacitance FinFET against short channel effects (SCE's) like 35.3 mV/V of drain-induced barrier lowering (DIBL), 60 mV/dec of subthreshold swing (SS) along with smallest off state current (Ioff) among another conventional gate dielectric. Background: Typhoid and paratyphoid remain common bloodstream infections in areas with suboptimal water and sanitation infrastructure. Paratyphoid, caused by Salmonella Paratyphi A, is less prevalent than typhoid and its antimicrobial resistance (AMR) trends are less documented. Empirical treatment for paratyphoid is commonly based on the knowledge of susceptibility of Salmonella Typhi, which causes typhoid. Hence, with rising drug resistance in Salmonella Typhi, last-line antibiotics like ceftriaxone and azithromycin are prescribed for both typhoid and paratyphoid. However, unlike for typhoid, there is no vaccine to prevent paratyphoid. Here, we report 23-year AMR trends of Salmonella Paratyphi A in Bangladesh. Methods: From 1999 to 2021, we conducted enteric fever surveillance in two major pediatric hospitals and three clinics in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Blood cultures were performed at the discretion of the treating physicians; cases were confirmed by culture, serological and biochemical tests. Antimicrobial susceptibility was determined following CLSI guidelines. Results: Over 23 years, we identified 2,725 blood culture-confirmed paratyphoid cases. Over 97% of the isolates were susceptible to ampicillin, chloramphenicol, and cotrimoxazole, and no isolate was resistant to all three. No resistance to ceftriaxone was recorded, and >99% of the isolates were sensitive to azithromycin. A slight increase in minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) is noticed for ceftriaxone but the current average MIC is 32-fold lower than the resistance cut-off. Over 99% of the isolates exhibited decreased susceptibility to ciprofloxacin. Conclusions: Salmonella Paratyphi A has remained susceptible to most antibiotics, unlike Salmonella Typhi, despite widespread usage of many antibiotics in Bangladesh. The data can guide evidence-based policy decisions for empirical treatment of paratyphoid fever, especially in the post typhoid vaccine era, and with the availability of new paratyphoid diagnostics. In this study, we conducted comprehensive surveillance of Salmonella Paratyphi A in Bangladesh over a period of 23 years and identified 2,725 blood culture-confirmed paratyphoid cases. Our findings indicate that Salmonella Paratyphi A remained susceptible to most of the older generation of antibiotics as over 97% of the isolates continue to be susceptible to ampicillin, chloramphenicol and cotrimoxazole, and no isolate detected was resistant to all three drugs. Although 99% of the isolates exhibited reduced fluoroquinolone susceptibility, 99% and 100% were sensitive to azithromycin and ceftriaxone. These findings are important and can guide evidence-based policy decisions for the empirical treatment of paratyphoid fever. While newer antimicrobials such as azithromycin and ceftriaxone remain effective, successful implementation of typhoid conjugate vaccines and rapid diagnostics may re-enable the use of older generation antibiotics for empirical treatment of enteric fever without compromising the treatment efficacy. This approach can contribute to the antimicrobial stewardship efforts by preserving critically important antimicrobials such as ceftriaxone and azithromycin for the treatment of numerous other multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. The effective management of surface water bodies, such as rivers, lakes, and reservoirs, necessitates a comprehensive understanding of water quality status. Altered precipitation patterns due to climate change may significantly affect the water quality and influence treatment procedures. This study aims to identify the most suitable water quality prediction models for the assessment of the water quality status for three water supply reservoirs in Toowoomba, Australia. It employed four machine learning and two deep learning models for determining the Water Quality Index (WQI) based on five parameters sensitive to rainfall impact. Temporal WQI variations over a period of 22 years (2000–2022) are scrutinised across 4 seasons and 12 months. Through regression analysis, both machine learning and deep learning models anticipate WQI gauged by seven accuracy metrics. Notably, XGBoost and GRU yielded exceptional outcomes, showcasing an R2 value of 0.99. Conversely, Bidirectional LSTM (BiLSTM) demonstrated moderate accuracy with results hovering at 88% to 90% for water quality prediction across all reservoirs. The Coefficient of Efficiency (CE) and Willmott Index (d) showed that the models capture patterns well, while MAE, MAPE and RMSE provided good performance metrics for the RFR, XGBoost and GRU models. These models have provided valuable knowledge that can be utilised to assess the adverse consequences of extreme climate events such as shifts in rainfall patterns. The frequency and severity of extremes, including extreme precipitation events, extreme evapotranspiration and extreme water storage deficit events, are changing. Thus, the necessity for developing a framework that estimates non-stationary conditions is urgent. The aim of this paper is to develop a framework using the geeSEBAL platform, Generalised Extreme Value (GEV) models and spatiotemporal analysis techniques that incorporate the physical system in terms of cause and effect. Firstly, the geeSEBAL platform has enabled the estimation of actual evapotranspiration (ETa) with an unprecedented level of spatial-temporal resolution. Following this, the Non-stationary Extreme Value Analysis (NEVA) approach employs the Bayesian method using a Differential Evolution Markov Chain technique to calculate the frequency and magnitude of extreme values across the parameter space. Station and global climate datasets have been used to analyse the spatial and temporal variation of rainfall, reference evapotranspiration (ETo), ETa and water storage (WS) variables in the Lockyer Valley located in Southeast Queensland (SEQ), Australia. Frequency analysis of rainfall, ETa, and water storage deficit for 14 stations were performed using a GEV distribution under stationary and non-stationary assumptions. Comparing the ETa, ETo and ERA5 rainfall with station data showed reasonable agreement as follows: Pearson correlation of 0.59–0.75 for ETa, RMSE of 45.23–58.56 mm for ETa, Pearson correlation of 0.96–0.97 for ETo, RMSE of 73.13–87.73 mm for ETo and Pearson correlation of 0.87–0.92 for rainfall and RMSE of 37.53–57.10 mm for rainfall. The lower and upper uncertainty bounds between stationary and non-stationary conditions for rainfall station data of Gatton varied from 550.98 mm (stationary) to 624.97 mm (non-stationary), and for ERA5 rainfall datasets, 441.30 mm (stationary) to 450.77 mm (non-stationary). The results demonstrate that global climate datasets underestimate the difference between stationary and non-stationary conditions by 9.47 mm compared to results of 73.99 mm derived from station data. Similarly, the results demonstrate less variation between stationary and non-stationary conditions in water storage, followed by a sharp variation in rainfall and moderate variation in evapotranspiration. The findings of this study indicate that neglecting the non-stationary condition in some hydrometeorological variables can lead to underestimating their amounts. This framework can be applied to any geographical area for estimating extreme conditions, providing valuable insights for infrastructure planning and design, risk assessment and disaster management. African swine fever virus (ASFV) is a contagious epizootic pathogen adversely affecting porcine industry in Asian and European countries. Till date, 8 serotypes and 24 genotypes of the virus have been reported. Few live attenuated virus vaccine studies have reported to provide complete protection against ASFV infection but biohazard concern still remain. Recombinant subunit antigens are capable of providing cellular and humoral immunity in porcine, but not a single vaccine has hit the market yet. In the present study, we attempted to use recombinant Salmonella Typhimurium JOL912 strain harboring ASFV antigens (rSal-ASFV) to investigate its immunostimulant effect in porcine. Post intramuscular administration, we observed significant increment in the levels of helper T cells, cytotoxic T cells, natural killer (NK) cells, and immunoglobulin (i.e. IgG, IgA, and IgM) levels in rSal-ASFV treated groups. Further RT-PCR analysis indicated the increased expression of MHC-I, MHC-II, CD80/86, NK cell receptors (NKp30, NKp44, and NKp46) and cytokines while ELIspot analysis revealed significant production of IFN-γ in rSal-ASFV treated groups. Taken together, we are able to demonstrate that rSal-ASFV could elicit a non-specific cellular as well as humoral immune response. However, additional antigen specific immunity data is needed to evaluate its efficacy. Intramuscular administration of rSal-ASFV was found to be safe and immunostimulant in nature without any side-effects and may serve as an excellent option for in-vivo antigen delivery in pigs. Lipoid proteinosis is a rare multisystem genodermatosis inherited as autosomal recessive trait. We report a case of lipoid proteinosis in a 10-year-old boy born to first-degree consanguineous parents presented with marked hoarseness of voice, accelerated photoaging appearance, enlarged and erythematous tongue with restricted movement and widespread dermatoses. Biopsy of oral mucosa revealed Periodic acid-Schiff (PAS)-positive amorphous eosinophilic hyaline deposits. Mutational analysis revealed a homozygous nonsense mutation with C to T substitution at nucleotide position 1246(c.1246C>T) in exon-8 of the extracellular matrix protein 1 gene leading to a stop codon. Both the parents were unaffected heterozygous carriers. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of lipoid proteinosis with evidence of a novel nonsense genetic mutation from Bangladesh. Background: Detection of appropriate receptor proteins and drug agents are equally important in the case of drug discovery and development for any disease. In this study, an attempt was made to explore colorectal cancer (CRC) causing molecular signatures as receptors and drug agents as inhibitors by using integrated statistics and bioinformatics approaches. Methods: To identify the important genes that are involved in the initiation and progression of CRC, four microarray datasets (GSE9348, GSE110224, GSE23878, and GSE35279) and an RNA_Seq profiles (GSE50760) were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. The datasets were analyzed by a statistical r-package of LIMMA to identify common differentially expressed genes (cDEGs). The key genes (KGs) of cDEGs were detected by using the five topological measures in the protein–protein interaction network analysis. Then we performed in-silico validation for CRC-causing KGs by using different web-tools and independent databases. We also disclosed the transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulatory factors of KGs by interaction network analysis of KGs with transcription factors (TFs) and micro-RNAs. Finally, we suggested our proposed KGs-guided computationally more effective candidate drug molecules compared to other published drugs by cross-validation with the state-of-the-art alternatives of top-ranked independent receptor proteins. Results: We identified 50 common differentially expressed genes (cDEGs) from five gene expression profile datasets, where 31 cDEGs were downregulated, and the rest 19 were up-regulated. Then we identified 11 cDEGs (CXCL8, CEMIP, MMP7, CA4, ADH1C, GUCA2A, GUCA2B, ZG16, CLCA4, MS4A12 and CLDN1) as the KGs. Different pertinent bioinformatic analyses (box plot, survival probability curves, DNA methylation, correlation with immune infiltration levels, diseases-KGs interaction, GO and KEGG pathways) based on independent databases directly or indirectly showed that these KGs are significantly associated with CRC progression. We also detected four TFs proteins (FOXC1, YY1, GATA2 and NFKB) and eight microRNAs (hsa-mir-16-5p, hsa-mir-195-5p, hsa-mir-203a-3p, hsa-mir-34a-5p, hsa-mir-107, hsa-mir-27a-3p, hsa-mir-429, and hsa-mir-335-5p) as the key transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulators of KGs. Finally, our proposed 15 molecular signatures including 11 KGs and 4 key TFs-proteins guided 9 small molecules (Cyclosporin A, Manzamine A, Cardidigin, Staurosporine, Benzo[A]Pyrene, Sitosterol, Nocardiopsis Sp, Troglitazone, and Riccardin D) were recommended as the top-ranked candidate therapeutic agents for the treatment against CRC. Conclusion: The findings of this study recommended that our proposed target proteins and agents might be considered as the potential diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic signatures for CRC. Research shows that the composite material is used as an adsorbent to remove pollutants from wastewater. This work is aimed at producing a novel composite film comprising chitosan, polyvinyl alcohol, and cornstarch incorporating nanocellulose (CPCN). The composite film was prepared by a blending method wherein nanocellulose was extracted using a chemical method from banana bract. The prepared CPCN was characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with EDX to understand their molecular interaction and surface morphology, respectively. The effect of parameters including pH, adsorbent dosage, initial dye concentration, and contact time on the adsorption of methylene blue (MB) dye was studied. The maximum adsorption was found to be up to 63.13 mg/g MB with a pH of 10, adsorbent dosage of 2 g, an initial concentration of 150 ppm, and contact time of 120 min at room temperature (25°C) indicating a moderate adsorption capacity of the CPCN. Comparing the Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm models, the former fitted well with MB dye adsorption data, implying that the models can be applied to uptake MB dye by CPCN. In the kinetic adsorption experiment, the adsorbed dye almost reached equilibrium at about 120 min for the CPCN and followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Understanding the effects of global change and human activities on water supplies depends greatly on surface water dynamics. A comprehensive examination of the hydroclimatic variations at the transboundary level is essential for the development of any adaptation or mitigation plans to deal with the negative effects of climate change. This research paper examines the hydroclimatic factors that contribute to the desiccation of the Doosti Dam's basin in the transboundary area using multisensor satellite data from the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform. The Mann–Kendall and Sens slope estimator test was applied to the satellite datasets to analyse the spatial and temporal variation of the hydroclimate variables and their trend over the transboundary area for 18 years from 2004 to 2021 (as the dam began operating in 2005). Statistical analysis results showed decreasing trends in temperature and an increase in rainfall with respect to station-observed available data. Evapotranspiration and irrigated area development followed the increasing pattern and a slight decrease in snow cover. The results confirmed a large expansion of the irrigated area, especially during the winter growing season. The increase in irrigated cultivated areas during both winter and summer seasons is possibly the main reason for the diversion of water to meet the irrigation requirements of the developed agriculture areas. The approach followed in this study could be applied to any location around the globe to evaluate the hydrological conditions and spatiotemporal changes in response to climate change, trend analysis and human activities. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the effect of Empagliflozin, an SGLT2 inhibitor, in type-2 diabetic rat hearts. We induced type-2 diabetes in SD rats by giving a high-fructose diet for 20 weeks. We administered Empagliflozin (10 mg/kg p.o.) daily from the 12th week to the 20th week, along with high-fructose diet. We weighed the cardiac structure and function by echocardiography, electrocardiography, and blood pressure in diabetic rats. Other parameters like cardiac fibrosis, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial dynamics by protein expression were measured. To simulate a similar in-vivo condition, we persuaded insulin resistance in H9c2 cells by palmitic acid (PA) treatment. We then examined glucose uptake, cellular ROS, mitochondrial ROS and membrane potential in the presence and absence of Empagliflozin treatment. We saw a significant perturbation of the majority of the parameters associated with cardiac structure and function in high-fructose diet-induced diabetic rats. We found that administration of Empagliflozin improved all the perturbed parameters by attenuating insulin resistance, oxidative stress, and cardiac fibrosis and also by promoting cardiac mitochondrial fusion in high-fructose diet-induced type-2 diabetic rats. Empagliflozin also reduced palmitate-induced insulin resistance, total cellular ROS, and mitochondrial ROS in H9c2 cells. Our study concluded that SGLT2 inhibition with Empagliflozin prevented the high-fructose diet-insulted cardiac function by suppressing insulin resistance and oxidative stress and promoting mitochondrial fusion. Degraded tropical peatlands lack tree cover and are often subject to seasonal flooding and repeated burning. These harsh environments for tree seedlings to survive and grow are therefore challenging to revegetate. Knowledge on species performance from previous plantings represents an important evidence base to help guide future tropical peat swamp forest (TPSF) restoration efforts.We conducted a systematic review of the survival and growth of tree species planted in degraded peatlands across Southeast Asia to examine (1) species differences, (2) the impact of seedling and site treatments on survival and growth and (3) the potential use of plant functional traits to predict seedling survival and growth rates.Planted seedling monitoring data were compiled through a systematic review of journal articles, conference proceedings, reports, theses and unpublished datasets. In total, 94 study‐sites were included, spanning three decades from 1988 to 2019, and including 141 indigenous peatland tree and palm species. Accounting for variable planting numbers and monitoring durations, we analysed three measures of survival and growth: (1) final survival weighted by the number of seedlings planted, (2) half‐life, that is, duration until 50% mortality and (3) relative growth rates (RGR) corrected for initial planting height of seedlings.Average final survival was 62% and half‐life was 33 months across all species, sites and treatments. Species differed significantly in survival and half‐life. Seedling and site treatments had small effects with the strongest being higher survival of mycorrhizal fungi inoculated seedlings; lower survival, half‐life and RGR when shading seedlings; and lower RGR and higher survival when fertilising seedlings. Leaf nutrient and wood density traits predicted TPSF species survival, but not half‐life and RGR. RGR and half‐life were negatively correlated, meaning that slower growing species survived for longer.Synthesis and applications. To advance tropical peat swamp reforestation requires expanding the number and replication of species planted and testing treatments by adopting control vs. treatment experimental designs. Species selection should involve slower growing species (e.g. Lophopetalum rigidum, Alstonia spatulata, Madhuca motleyana) that survive for longer and explore screening species based on functional traits associated with nutrient acquisition, flooding tolerance and recovery from fire. In intensive crop production systems, sustainable agricultural development strives to find the balance between productivity and environmental impact. To reduce the N fertilizer-associated environmental risks of intensive cropping, sound agronomic and environmentally acceptable management practices are urgently needed. To attain high yields, improve soil health, and ensure economic return and N usage efficiency in conservation-based intensive agriculture, N management must be optimized, which has not yet been studied systematically in the mustard-boro rice-aman rice cropping pattern. During 2016/17, 2017/18, and 2018/19 cropping seasons in Bangladesh, cropping system experiments were conducted to investigate the interactive effects of tillage practices and nitrogen fertilizer rates on soil characteristics, crop productivity, and profitability under conservation agriculture (CA) systems. The trial featured two tillage systems: (i) conventional tillage (CT) and (ii) strip-tillage (ST). It also used three doses of N fertilizer: N1: 75% of the recommended N fertilizer dose (RND); N2: 100% of the RND; and N3: 125% of the RND. Each crop's experiment was set up in a split-plot design with three replications, with the main plot assigned tillage practices and the sub-plot assigned nitrogen fertilizer rates. For rice, neither the tillage systems nor the interactions between the tillage systems and N levels affected any of the growth parameters, yield, and yield components, but the N levels did. Across the tillage systems, the rice grain and straw yield were similar for the N levels of 100% RND and 125% RND, which were significantly higher than the N level of 75% RND. In mustard, the highest seed yield was recorded from the tillage system ST, with an N level of 125% RND, which was at par with the tillage system ST with 100% RND and CT with 125% RND. The highest system rice equivalent yield (SREY, 14.9 to 15.8 t ha−1) was recorded from the tillage system ST, with an N level of 125% RND, which was at par with the same tillage system with an N level of 100% RND. The soil penetration and bulk density (BD) were higher for the CT than the ST, but soil organic matter (OM), total nitrogen (TN), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), and boron (B) content were higher for the tillage system ST than the CT. Across N levels, the tillage system CT had a 2–4% higher production cost than the ST. Total production cost increased as N levels increased across all tillage systems. The tillage system ST with an N level of 125% RND had the highest system gross return and net profit, which was at par with the same tillage system with 100% RND. This study suggested that farmers should apply slightly higher N for the mustard-boro-aman rice systems for the first couple of years when commencing CA; however, after a few years of consistent CA practice, the N rate may be reduced. This study aims to identify blood biomarkers for rapidly predicting progression and severity assessment of COVID-19 in type 2 diabetic (DM) and non-DM (NDM) patients. Among 211 hospitalized patients suspected of COVID-19, 98 were confirmed COVID-19 by rRT-PCR. The COVID-19 positive group contained 58 DM and 40 NDM patients with total death 9 of which 7 were males and 6 were DM, indicating males and DM individuals as more susceptible to COVID-19. Blood biomarkers notably serum ferritin, CRP, D-dimer, ALT, troponin I, and Hb1Ac were significantly (p < 0.05) higher in COVID-19 patients. Ferritin and HbA1c levels were significantly (p < 0.05) higher in DM than NDM COVID-19 patients. The present study suggests that ferritin and HbA1c levels for DM patients, and ferritin, D-dimer, ALT for NDM patients could be routinely used as biomarkers for progression and severity assessment of COVID-19. Background: Epidemiological studies have indicated that anti-Ascaris IgE enhances asthma and allergies under specific conditions although the association between them is still controversial. The association of anti-Ascaris IgE with increased asthma symptoms among children from a general population with a mild to moderate Ascaris infection prevalence was investigated. Methods: A total of 126 children aged 5 years with wheezing during the previous year and 110 children who did not have wheezing were selected randomly from the rural service area of the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh. Serum levels of total, anti-Ascaris, anti-Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, and anti-cockroach IgEs were tested, and their risks for wheezing were analyzed. The wheezing children were then classified by hierarchical cluster analysis to investigate the contribution of anti-Ascaris IgE to wheezing. Results: The anti-Ascaris IgE levels in wheezing and never-wheezing children were 1.07 and 0.65 UA/mL, and it contributed to 11% of wheezing in children. Anti-Ascaris IgE was significantly associated with wheezing (odds ratio [OR] per loge increment: 1.37 [95% CI: 1.01–1.87], p = 0.046). The ORs, which were adjusted for sex, parental asthma, pneumonia history, helminth infections, Haemophilus influenzae type B combination vaccination, antibiotic use during infancy, and total and specific IgE levels, increased even when only children with more specific symptoms of asthma were included in the analysis. Namely, the ORs for wheezing with sleep disturbance, four or more attacks, and wheezing with speech difficulties during the previous 1 year were OR = 1.44/loge increment [95% CI: 1.01–2.07], OR = 1.90/loge increment [95% CI: 1.11–3.25], and OR = 1.78/loge increment [95% CI: 1.01–3.14], respectively. Conclusions: The anti-Ascaris IgE levels in wheezing and never-wheezing children in the current study significantly decreased concurrently with Ascaris infection prevalence compared with their corresponding values in 2001. The contribution of anti-Ascaris IgE to wheezing also dropped from 26% in 2001 to 11% in the current study. Despite significant decreases in the levels and the seroprevalence and its contribution to wheezing, anti-Ascaris IgE remained significantly associated with increased risk of wheezing. Anti-Ascaris IgE significantly increased the risk of wheezing in a general population with a mild to moderate Ascaris infection prevalence, suggesting robustness as a risk factor and a possible dose-response relationship. A breakthrough in superabsorbent hydrogel (SAH) preparation was studied in the current issue by blending potato starch and acrylic acid for wastewater treatment. Gamma irradiation source (60Co irradiation) was used to irradiate SAH from 1 to 10 kGy dose at room temperature (~27°C). The swelling ratio, water absorption, equilibrium water content, and gel fraction properties of the hydrogel were investigated. The as-prepared hydrogel treated with KOH (THG) showed excellent absorption capacity but less mechanical stability compared to untreated hydrogel (UHG). The gel fraction of treated SAH was slightly lower in methanol, but the utmost in water at 5 kGy infers the proper grafting of SAH at this point. The prepared SAH was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) to investigate the surface morphology and molecular interaction, respectively. Moreover, this study's focal point is to propose an alternative method to remove chromium and methylene blue by SAH from industrial wastewater. The Cr adsorption capacity of UHG was higher than that of THG because the proton's replacement is easier than that of K by Cr. On the other hand, THG was found to be more efficient in removing methylene blue from industrial wastewater due to the presence of an easily ionized group (–COOK) in SAH. Improving sweet potato traits and genotype selection based on specific traits of interest is crucial to motivate farmers and rural households to enhance their livelihoods by increasing income and improving nutritional intake. This research offers a thorough analysis of genotype selection guidelines considering multiple traits of sweet potatoes, including vine length (VL), average root length (ARL), average root diameter (ARD), marketable storage root number (MRN), marketable storage root yield (MRY), non-marketable root number (NMRN), non-marketable root weight (NMRW), dry weight of root (DW), beta-carotene content (BC), vitamin C content (VC), starch content (ST), total sugar content (TS), total soluble solid (TSS), and titratable acidity (ACD). The findings showed that the genotype Moz1.15 achieved the highest MRY at 46.46 t/ha, H5.ej.10 displayed the top BC level at 48.94 mg/100 g, and Moz1.9 had the highest VC (23.89 mg/100 g). Furthermore, there was a significant positive correlation between VL and DW, TSS, ST, TS, and VC. Additionally, ARL, ARD, and MRN showed significant positive correlations with MRY. The principal component analysis (PCA) biplot further confirmed how traits were connected with each other. There were four separate clusters of genotypes found, each having its specific significant trait representation. The distance between these clusters ranged from 21.79 to 54.13, while within each cluster, the distances varied from 0 to 17.45. The factor analysis using the multi-trait genotype-ideotype distance index (MGIDI) showed that sweet potato traits played a substantial role in three distinct factors during both growing seasons (2020-21 and 2021-22). This allowed for the selection of genotypes capable of achieving favorable genetic gains ranging from 1.86% to 75.4%, alongside a broad-sense heritability (h2 b) spanning from 64.9% to 99.8%. Through the application of the MGIDI index, a number of potential genotypes were identified, among which BARI Mistialu-12 and H9.7.12 stood out as consistently chosen across both years. These promising genotypes exhibited high performance while displaying their strengths and weaknesses in terms of their contributions to the identified factors. This thorough research offers valuable insights into the complex relationship between different traits in sweet potatoes and how genotype selection based on a multi-trait index can significantly assist in shaping upcoming breeding and cultivation strategies. Objectives: The outbreak of COVID-19 has caused an unprecedented health crisis and dramatically changed human lives. This study aims to identify risk factors related to health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among COVID-19 patients who were discharged from the hospital. Material and Methods: A total of 557 COVID-19 patients of Jhenaidah district of Bangladesh who had tested positive before February 1 of 2021 were selected for this cross-sectional study. The EuroQol 5-dimensional-5 level questionnaire was used to measure the HRQoL. Thai value set was used to assess the full health status. Chi-square test was used to find out the association of HRQoL with sociodemographic and clinical factors. Finally, logistic regression was used to find out the predictors of the dimensions of HRQoL. Results: Using the Thai value set, it is observed that 57.27% of participants had reported that they had experienced moderate or severe health problems. About 40.57% of the respondent reported anxiety or depression, whereas 39.14% of the participants had experienced moderate or severe pain or discomfort. The result of the logistic regression showed that age, gender, occupation, place of care, heart problems, and diabetes significantly affect various dimensions of the HRQoL. Conclusion: The COVID-19 significantly depletes the health condition of the patients in both mental and physical aspects. Therefore, the policy-makers and government should need to come with comprehensive strategies to reduce the psychological and physical health woe of COVID-19 patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bangladesh is in a subtropical monsoon region and extends from 20°34'N to 26°38'N latitude, its agriculture is comprised of several diversified rice-based cropping systems. Potato is an important winter crop across the country. To help increase the sustainability of potato production in Bangladesh, a set of medium-term late blight-resistant potato clones bred in CIP were evaluated for diversification potential at six locations from 2008 to 2013. After seven years of field trials, TCRC, BARI identified two clones, namely CIP 393371.58 (coded LB-6) and CIP 393280.64 (LB-7) which are consistently resistant to Late Blight under field conditions without fungicide and yield as well or better than the predominant commercial varieties (Diamant) in a 90-day cropping window. According to the AUDPC, LB-4, LB-5, LB-6 and LB-7 were moderate to highly resistant to Late Blight. The latter two produced over 30 tons of tubers per hectare. Similar yields were recorded in on-farm trials during 2011-12. These two clones were entered into regional yield trials as a requirement for variety release by the NSB. Based on field performance at on-station and farmers' fields, NSB released BARI Alu-46 (LB-7) in 2013 and BARI Alu-53 (LB-6) in 2014 as the country's two late blight-resistant varieties. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to identify the big data adoption in information institutions as well as to justify the understanding and expertise level of information professionals. The study tried to identify the adoption of big data in the information institutions of Bangladesh. Materials and Methods: A structured questionnaire was adapted cautiously for conducting the study. The Questionnaire was sent to more than 50 professionals of information institutions via email and FB messenger. The respondents are the professionals and faculty members who had the minimum qualification of bachelor/master/postgraduate degree in information science and library management. Among them, 25 respondents from 20 information institutions replied. Result: The study found that most of the information institutions yet to adopt big data properly in Bangladesh. Twenty percent of institutions adopted big data whereas eighty percent did not adopt it even some of the institutions are not aware of big data. The study found that sixty percent of professionals are not aware of the monthly amount of data used in their institutions. The results found that information professionals are, in general, positive in big data adoption. The study also assessed the understanding level of them. Conclusion: The effort has been made to explore the current awareness activities of big data and its adoption in the information institutions of Bangladesh for the first time that will trigger further study on big data. Platelets play a promising role in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular complications in diabetes. Since last several decades, garlic and its bioactive components are extensively studied in diabetes and its complications. Our aim was to explore the antiplatelet property of allyl methyl sulfide (AMS) focusing on ameliorating platelet activation in diabetes. Method. We used streptozotocin- (STZ-) induced diabetic rats as model for type 1 diabetes. We have evaluated the effect of allyl methyl sulfide on platelet activation by administrating AMS to diabetic rats for 10 weeks. Flow cytometry-based analysis was used to evaluate the platelet activation, platelet aggregation, platelet macrophage interaction, and endogenous ROS generation in the platelets obtained from control, diabetes, and AMS- and aspirin-treated diabetic rats. Results. AMS treatment for 10 weeks effectively reduced the blood glucose levels in diabetic rats. Three weeks of AMS (50 mg/kg/day) treatment did not reduce the activation of platelets but a significant (p < 0.05) decrease was observed after 10 weeks of treatment. Oral administration of AMS significantly (p < 0.05) reduced the baseline and also reduced ADP-induced aggregation of platelets after 3 and 10 weeks of treatment. Furthermore, 10 weeks of AMS treatment in diabetic rats attenuated the endogenous ROS content (p < 0.05) of platelets and platelet macrophage interactions. The inhibition of platelet activation in diabetic rats after AMS treatment was comparable with aspirin treatment (30 mg/kg/day). Conclusion. We observed an inhibitory effect of allyl methyl sulfide on platelet aggregation, platelet activation, platelet macrophage interaction, and increased ROS levels in type 1 diabetes. Slightly acidic electrolyzed water (SAEW) has recently gained a lot of interest as a chlorine sanitizer which provides higher decontamination effect with minimum available chlorine. Nevertheless, microbial reductions via only SAEW treatment are not sufficient to assure safety. Hence, it is required to enhance the disinfection efficacy by combining with other compatible techniques. In the present study, SAEW with a pH of 5.5–5.6, available chlorine content (AAC) of 20–22 mg/L, oxidation-reduction potential of 900–950 mV was applied on fresh-cut cauliflower to determine the microbicidal activity. SAEW was also applied in combination with ultrasound treatment (US) and moderate heat (45 °C) to enhance the decontamination efficacy of SAEW. The impacts of individual (SAEW) and combined treatments like (SAEW + US), (SAEW + US + mild heat 45 °C) on microbial population, physicochemical, and antioxidant properties of cauliflower were evaluated. The combined treatment of SAEW, US and mild heat showed better effectiveness on microbial decontamination compared to SAEW treatment alone, and SAEW with US (SAEW + US) treatment but significantly reduced the antioxidant and phytochemical properties of fresh cauliflower. However, SAEW with US treatment (SAEW + US) preserved the bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity with significant reduction of microbial load.
