Job satisfaction can be defined as individuals' perceptions of satisfaction towards their profession. This concept is also considered to be important for the school counselling profession because school counsellors’ high level of job satisfaction is assumed to have positive effects not only on them but also on their students and accordingly on the education system. Therefore, it is thought that it is important to examine the factors that predict job satisfaction of school counsellors. For this purpose, this study was conducted on 194 (female=145 and male=49) school counsellors in Turkey. As a result of the research, it was determined that there was a significant positive relationship between school counsellors’ job satisfaction and professional self-esteem. In addition, job satisfaction of school counsellors working in the private sector was found to be higher than those working in the public sector. It was found that job satisfaction of school counsellors did not differ significantly according to gender, age and school level variables.

Bu araştırmanın temel amacı psikolojik danışmanların mesleki gelişimlerinin incelenmesidir. Bu amaçla psikolojik danışmanların mesleki gelişimlerini nasıl sağladıkları, çalışma hayatlarında kendilerine mesleki gelişim fırsatları sunulup sunulmadığı, sunuluyorsa bunların neler olduğu ve bu fırsatları ne derece yeterli buldukları ve mesleki gelişimlerine katkı sağlanmasında ihtiyaç duydukları konuların neler olduğu belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Nitel araştırma yaklaşımına dayalı olarak gerçekleştirilen bu araştırma, ortaokul ve lisede görev yapan 61 kadın ve 29 erkek olmak üzere toplam 90 psikolojik danışman ile yürütülmüştür. Çalışmada veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan soru formu kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen veriler betimsel analize tabi tutulmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda psikolojik danışmanların mesleki gelişimlerini daha çok kişisel çabalarıyla sağladıkları ortaya koyulmuştur. Bununla birlikte çalışma hayatlarında kendilerine mesleki gelişim fırsatlarının sunulduğu ve bunun çoğunlukla eğitimler ile ilgili olduğu ancak bunları yeterli bulmadıklarını ifade ettikleri belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca mesleki gelişimlerine katkı sağlanmasında daha çok mesleki eğitimle ilgili konulara ihtiyaç duydukları saptanmıştır. The main purpose of this research is to examine the professional development of psychological counselors. For this purpose, it was tried to determine how psychological counselors provide their professional development, whether they are offered professional development opportunities in their working life, what they are, if so, to what extent they find these opportunities sufficient, and what matters they need to contribute to their professional development. This research, based on a qualitative research approach, was conducted with a total of 90 psychological counselors, 61 women, and 29 men, working in middle and high schools. The questionnaire prepared by the researchers was used as instrument in the study. The data obtained in the study were subjected to descriptive analysis. As a result of the research, it was revealed that the psychological counselors provided their professional development mostly with their personal efforts. However, it was determined that they were offered professional development opportunities in their working lives and they stated that this is mostly related to the training but they do not find them sufficient. In addition, it has been determined that they need more vocational education-related issues in contributing to their professional development.
