ITEM response theory , *CONFIRMATORY factor analysis , *TWO-dimensional models , *QUESTIONNAIRES - Abstract
The present study aimed to estimate the parameters of the Varieties of Sadistic Tendencies (VAST) items through the item response theory (IRT), specifically using the Samejima's graduated response model. For this purpose, 396 participants of both sexes were included, with a mean age of 26.93 (SD = 8.91). Participants responded to the following instruments: (1) Varieties of Sadistic Tendencies and (2) sociodemographic questionnaire. Initially, a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed, which identified a two-dimensional model with adequate fit indicators (CFI= .97; TLI= .97; RMSEA= .04). Thus, the item parameters were calculated for each dimension separately. The results indicated that the dimension items showed good discrimination, information breadth, and a good range of response thresholds. The conclusion is that the item parameters of VAST provide information that allows a better interpretation of its scores. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PRESENTEEISM (Labor) , *MEDICAL personnel , *WORKING hours , *JOB performance , *SCALING (Social sciences) - Abstract
The first definition of presenteeism was limited to individuals who attended work despite being unwell. Over the past 15 years, other perspectives have expanded the concept to encompass any non-work-related factors influencing behavior during working hours. This research aims to redefine presenteeism within the context of healthcare workers' behaviors and contribute to the literature by introducing a measurement scale. The study involved 431 healthcare professionals across nine public and four private/foundation hospitals. Presenteeism was associated positively with burnout and negatively with happiness at work. Younger people showed higher levels of presenteeism compared to their older counterparts, as did those who worked nine hours or more per day. Although the scale was applied to healthcare professionals, its framework holds potential for use in other areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The Demand Control Support model is useful for studying work-related stress. The combination of high demand and a low level of control generates “job strain” (“job iso-strain” if poor support is added), with implications for the worker’s health and well-being. The aims of this study were to adapt, examine the factor structure of, and determine the reliability of, the Demand Control Support Questionnaire (DCSQ) short version for European Portuguese (DCSQ-PT). Methods: The scale was translated into Portuguese following a rigorous process and then applied to 501 workers from various professional sectors. An online survey was used to collect sociodemographic, professional, and Demand Control Support data. Validation was based on reliability and validity tests. Results: The mean age of the sample was 41.8 ± 10.3 years, and 50.1% of the participants were female. The results reveal good reliability (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.807) and validity. Confirmatory factor analyses demonstrated that a four-factor solution of the DCSQ-PT scale had a good fit to the data, as was the case for the original scale. The DCSQ-PT© with 16 items is composed of the following factors: social support at work; psychological demands; skill discretion; and decision authority. Conclusions: This validation allows an instrument to be obtained with 16 items for studying work-related stress in Portuguese workers.

- Abstract
Complaints about subjective cognitive changes are common in clinical consultations with individuals over 50 years old and are considered a predictive criterion for the onset of cognitive decline. The assessment of these complaints through questionnaires is infrequent due to the limited number available in the literature. Furthermore, most of them focus exclusively on the evaluation of amnestic changes and not on overall cognition. It is an instrumental study that allowed estimating the evidence of validity and reliability of the CCC questionnaire designed by Salazar and Maldonado (2020). The sample consisted of 258 individuals aged between 50 and 80 years without a diagnosis of cognitive impairment and mild cognitive impairment. An exploratory factor analysis was conducted, revealing correlations of 0.881 and 0.901 with criterion questionnaires and an internal consistency of the instrument with a Cronbach's alpha coefficient (a) of .973. The CCC questionnaire is useful for exploring subjective cognitive changes in adults. It is considered that it can be used in clinical consultations for a more comprehensive evaluation and as a predictor in detecting mild cognitive impairment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) is one of the main techniques used in the search for higher levels of equipment reliability, which reinforces its application in industries that require high levels of productivity. The present work proposes the application of the RCM to identify possible improvements in the maintenance plans of the Bengaleira 1 machine. The proposed methodology comprises the following steps: equipment selection, through the analysis of the availability data of the company’s management system; definition of potential failure modes through the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA); adequacy of existing maintenance plans; and, finally, application of the availability indicator to analyze the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results obtained show that the application of the RCM made it possible to generate new actions to the existing Bengaleira 1 maintenance plan, since the availability increased, on average, 15,16% after the implementation of the method.

Risk perception is a concept related to the decision-making process and allows people to perceive the hazards surrounding the context and choose the best preventive methods to avoid them. The COVID-19 pandemic was a remarkable era in which people had to adopt protective methods, such as social isolation, to reduce the possibility of being contaminated by the virus. This study covers the development, psychometric properties, and norms of a scale to assess Risk Perception regarding COVID-19 and Social Isolation. The analysis suggested good expert agreement regarding the adequacy of the scale content and items and factor analysis suggested two factors, called the emotional and cognitive domains. The composite reliability suggested the internal consistency of the scale and its factors. All the results of this study suggest that this scale presents evidence of construct validity, constituting a reliable instrument. This new instrument may be used to evaluate risk perception related to COVID-19 and Social Isolation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Introduction: There are international cooperation networks composed of public security institutions for the promotion, prevention and repression of transnational organized crimes, which need some factors to function properly. Goals: To analyze the perception of reliability of Federal Police attaches in sharing information with actors from similar international institutions, in support of crime investigations. Methods: The research is characterized as descriptive, transversal with a qualitative approach. By census sampling, virtual interviews were conducted with Federal Police attachés from 16 countries, with the support of a semi-structured script. Data were transcribed and submitted to content analysis, with some categories established a priori and others a posteriori. Results: The counterparty's reliability perception is only realized when the information is classified as sensitive, and is suppressed when the institution has a good reputation. The attache's physical presence was extremely important, especially in interactions with reliable actors from institutions whose reputation is negative. There was a variation in the analysis criteria for the perception of reliability adopted by the attachés referring to competence, integrity and benevolence, integrity being the criterion prioritized by the mode. Conclusions: The attachés' perception of reliability influences the investigation of crimes, by increasing the willingness to share counterpart information and promoting its availability and quality. The qualitative approach contributed to the deepening of the perception analysis on the relationship of reliability and information sharing, as it allowed detailing and examples of cases that supported the creation of thematic categories.

Optimization is the act of obtaining the best possible result under established conditions. Usually, the optimization of a structural design is done considering the structure's dimensions, the materials' properties, and the loads as deterministic values. This way, the optimization process can lead to a more economical design without guaranteeing that this structure is safe. In practice, there are always uncertainties about the final dimensions of the built structure, material properties, and loads. Then, the need arises to use design optimization techniques based on reliability to guarantee a project that is both economical and safe. This objective is achieved by including uncertainties in the optimization process. This article evaluates the parameters that determine the global minimum of the optimization methods DDO (Deterministic Design Optimization) and RBDO (Reliability-Based Design Optimization). This work aims to compare the structural optimization methods of DDO and RBDO through an example. The results are obtained through the methods implemented in the Python language and show that when comparing the two optimization methods, the presence of uncertainties alters the optimal solution. STRUCTURAL reliability , *MONTE Carlo method , *GIRDERS , *PRESTRESSED concrete bridges , *BRIDGES , *MECHANICAL models - Abstract
This study deals with the evaluation of the reliability index of prestressed girders members of road bridges in relation to the ultimate limit state (ULS) of bending failure. In a wide bibliographic review of scientific works that deal with structural reliability, prestressed structural elements and road bridges, it is observed that few of these deals specifically with the reliability of girders considering the codes NBR 7188 of 2013 and NBR 7187 of 2021. A mechanical model was developed for the calculation of the beam resistant moment and the Monte Carlo Method was used to obtain a data set that represents the statistics of the structure in the ULS. To obtain the reliability index - the first order reliability method (FORM) was used. The values obtained by the analytical method are validated using the Monte Carlo simulation method. For all evaluated cases, the value of the reliability index was higher than 4.0, which is higher than the minimum required value of 3.5, showing that the national normative recommendations for the design of beam members guarantee a very conservative level of safety. Introduction: The Revised Self-Care Agency Rating Scale is an instrument designed to assess health self-care in clinical population. However, studies on its psychometric properties in the general non-clinical Colombian population are unknown. Objective: To validate the Revised Self-Care Agency Rating Scale with a sample of 306 volunteer participants in Colombia. Method: Psychometric methodological study carried out between October and December 2021. For the analysis of the validity of the structure, factorial, exploratory and confirmatory analysis techniques were applied. In a complementary way, the content validity was evaluated through a panel of experts. Finally, as evidence of the instrument's reliability, its internal consistency was analyzed using McDonald's Omega coefficient. Results: The findings show that the ASA-R shows a one-dimensional structure that explains 61.99 % of the total variance. The assessment of the relevance, clarity, precision and comprehension of the items had results that had an average that ranged from an Aiken's V between 0.79 and 0.99. The internal consistency showed a satisfactory index for the total scale (ω=0.93). Conclusions: The version of the ASA-R presented in this article has adequate metric properties and its use is recommended to measure health self-care agency in a healthy Colombian population. PEDIATRIC emergencies , *MEDICAL triage , *EARLY warning score , *PEDIATRIC emergency services , *MEDICAL personnel , *CULTURAL adaptation - Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study was to perform a narrative review of the leading pediatric triage systems in emergency departments (EDs). Data source: Articles published between 1999 and 2019 were identified by searching the MEDLINE, EMBASE, and PubMed databases using the keywords “pediatric triage”, “pediatric assessment tools”, and “emergency department triage” with an emphasis on studies that evaluated the validation and reliability of triage systems. Data synthesis: A total of 105 articles on pediatric emergency triage systems in 12 countries were evaluated. Triage systems were divided into two groups: color-stratified triage systems and alert systems. The color-stratified triage systems included in this review were the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS), Manchester Triage System (MTS), Emergency Severity Index (ESI), and Australasian Triage Scale (ATS), and the alert systems included were the Paediatric Observation Priority Score (POPS), Pediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS), and Pediatric Approach Triangle (PAT). Evidence corroborates the validity and reliability of MTS, PaedCTAS, ESI version 4, PEWS, POPS, and PAT in pediatric emergency services. Conclusions: These are fundamental tools for risk classification of patients seeking treatment in EDs. Not all triage systems have been assessed for validity and reliability; nor are they well suited for all regions of the world. Employing triage systems in Brazil requires cultural adaptation and rigorous training of the local health staff, in addition to validation and reliability studies in our country, since the social and cultural context of this country differs from those where these tools were developed.

YOUNG adults , *PSYCHOLOGICAL research , *CRITICAL thinking , *INFORMATION society , *PSYCHOMETRICS , *SECONDARY education - Abstract
Teaching thinking skills is a growing demand for educational systems due to its transversal role regarding competencies and learning and its functionality for persons and jobs in current knowledge societies. In psychological research, these skills are conceptualized as critical thinking, where teaching programs and some assessment tests, mainly aimed at adults, have been created. This study displays a culture-fair critical thinking assessment instrument, which addresses young people and includes figurative components, unlike other evaluation tools that are focused on specific learning. The instrument assesses four thinking skills, deduction, assumptions, sequences, and decision-making, and aims to students of secondary education (15-16 years). Its empirical validation considers students' school marks and the comparison between the participants' two grades, as external criteria, together with other procedures. The results show the psychometric characteristics of the assessment instrument for diagnosing students thinking skills; the most important findings are the significant and high correlations between school marks and thinking skills and the instrument discrimination for the differential diagnosis of two successive educational grades. Further, the validity and reliability of the figurative items are better than those of the verbal items, despite the latter being drawn from standardized instruments. Finally, the educational importance of creating a culture fair critical thinking assessment instrument and a common language that allows the development of the teaching thinking skills and their culture-free assessment within the classroom; further, some revision proposals for improving the instrument validity and reliability are suggested. ACCOUNTING standards , *STANDARDS , *ACCOUNTANTS , *PROFESSIONAL employees , *NEUTRALITY - Abstract
After trying to explain the meaning of the term reliability, the International Accounting Standards Board decided to replace it with another one that would more clearly show its meaning. For that reason, it proposed the term faithful representation. This fact caused unease among professional accountants, who pointed out that the Board could have better explained the meaning of reliability without replacing the term. This qualitative work aims to demonstrate the substantive differences between these terms etymologically. Among the most notable findings is that the Standards Council is aware that the term "faithful representation" may not work as an efficient filter for uncertainties and that the most notable tension arises between faithful representation and relevance. The objective of this study is to analyze the validity evidence of the Academic Procrastination Scale (APS) in a sample consisting of 1979 students from public and private universities, from different courses, 67% of the students being women, aged 18 to 68 years old (M = 22.84). The principal component analysis revealed two components, also validated by confirmatory analysis, which showed a good overall fit of a two-dimensional model: Daily Study Procrastination (a = 0.75) and Exam Study Procrastination (a = 0.75). Internal consistency was estimated through Cronbach's alpha, obtaining 0.83 for the total scale. The study concludes that APS has satisfactory psychometric properties and suggests further validation studies and also analysis of academic procrastination in higher education students. FACTOR analysis , *STRUCTURAL reliability , *MULTIDIMENSIONAL scaling , *BRAZILIANS , *PSYCHOMETRICS - Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the internal structure, reliability, and temporal stability of the Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (FMPS) for Brazilian adults. The sample included 1222 participants, with a mean age of 26.57 years (SD=9.03). Half of the sample completed the online version of the instrument, while the other half answered the paper-and-pencil version. To check temporal stability, the instrument was reapplied with 10% of the presential sample. The results from the confirmatory factorial analysis indicated that the original six-dimension model was the best fit for the scale. The internal structure evaluated for the two application formats showed only borderline structural, metric and configuration invariance, highlighting the need for future studies. Both the internal consistency and the temporal stability indices were satisfactory and corroborate the literature findings for the scale in other languages. In conclusion, the FMPS has adequate structural validity and reliability for use in the Brazilian context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Personality is one of the central constructs of psychology, however, its extensive scales can hinder its inclusion in various studies. Therefore, the aim of this study was to verify whether the two short versions of the Big Five Inventory (BFI-15p and BFI-10p) present evidence of validity and reliability in a sample of 451 Mexican university students. (57.2% women; Mage=20.84). The BFI-15p and BFI-10p were analyzed through exploratory structural equation modeling (WLSMV estimation method and geomin rotation), and it was found that the BFI-15p presented a satisfactory fit index and a coherent internal structure, as well as significant associations with a brief measure of emotional intelligence. The construct reliability coefficients and scores were also adequate. It was concluded that the BFI-15p presents satisfactory psychometric properties for use with university students. Emotion regulation during childhood and adolescence has implications in different areas, both in these stages and in adult life. The objective of this article was to evaluate an emotional regulation test, Emotional Regulation Checklist (ERC), using CET-R as a frame of reference. We analyzed 71 articles that used the ERC for the evaluation of emotional regulation. The information was sorted according to test description, reliability and validity. All reliability results were shown using the Cronbach alpha coefficient. In relation to validity the average of the ERC correlations with the criteria was adequate but with some shortcomings. It is advisable to conduct research using advanced psychometric models. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
