In waterway regulation engineering, submerged reefs are quite susceptible to the repetitive oblique strike from drop hammer and impact drilling, leading to a repetitive compression–shear impacting. Understanding the dynamic responses and failure mechanism of saturated rocks subjected to repetitive compression–shear impacting is thus of great significance for the efficient removal of submerged reefs. In this study, using the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) apparatus, the repetitive compression–shear impacting tests were conducted on the saturated and dry sandstone specimen from the harbor excavation project in Guoyuan Port (Chongqing, China). Our experimental results indicate that the increasing loading rate or shear component in the dynamic loading has a negative influence on the bearing capacity of saturated sandstone subjected to repetitive impacting. The deformability of saturated rocks increases as the impacting number or the shear component in the dynamic loading. The energy absorption ability as well as the energy utilization of the saturated rocks is highly improved by implementing repetitive compression–shear impacting, and such improvement yields an ascension limit with the increasing shear component in the dynamic loading. As the shear component introduces into the repetitive impacting loading, the failure patterns of rocks change from the relative tensile mode with a large deformation band along the loading direction to the combined compression–shear mode with two parallel large deformation bands inclined to the loading direction, the water content between the mineral grains promotes the shear failure in rock dynamic testing. These results can provide a better understanding of the dynamic responses and failure properties of saturated rocks subjected to repetitive compression–shear impacting. Fire safety evacuation has been used in numerous different kinds of buildings. This research conducts a scientometric review of fire safety evacuation applications and advances in the buildings to clarify the research trends of fire evacuation in the future and provide guidance for relevant research. A total of 3312 journals and conference proceedings were analyzed through different dimensions. The result proves that evacuation environments concentrate mainly on residential building, commercial building, school, and railway station. The characteristics of the evacuee have been gradually refined in recent years, including children, the elderly, patients, and vulnerable groups. The main experimental approaches of fire safety evacuation are evacuation drills, site records, and VR/AR experiments. The crowd behavior models mainly consist of six types: a cellular automata model, a social force model, a lattice gas model, a game-theoretic model, an animal agent-based model, and a computer agent-based model. The analysis results in the theoretical method are becoming gradually closer to the behavioral characteristics and movement data of the crowd during the actual evacuation with improvements of practical considerations. The study of evacuation drills, disaster rescue, emergencies, and other external environmental factors will become the forefront of future research, and subway stations, airports, high-rise building, and other personnel places will be the focus of the study of crowd evacuation. The drilling-hammer method is adopted for the breaking over submerged reefs in waterway regulation engineering. However, rocks with pre-drilled holes are highly susceptible to the repetitive impacts from drop hammers or drilling equipment. Exploring the dynamic responses and failure behaviors of drilled-hole rocks under repetitive impacting is important for promoting implementation of this technique. In this study, the repetitive impacting tests were conducted on the drilled rocks by the split Hopkinson pressure bar to investigate the rock bearing capacity, deformation property, failure behavior, and energy evolution. The results indicate that the presence of pre-drilled holes and the decreasing loading rates attenuate the bearing capacity of rocks subjected to repetitive impacting. In contrast, the rock deformation capacity is impacted subtly by the impact loading rate and increases with the number of impacts and borehole size. The drilled rock failure occurred with the prevalence of intergranular fractures; subsequently, the proportion of transgranular fractures increased, contributing to the loading rate-dependent bearing capacity. The inverted S-shaped damage evolution curve was assessed using the inverted logistic growth model. To implement sustainable water resource management, the industries that produce a huge amount of wastewater are aiming to recycle wastewater. Reverse osmosis (RO) is an advanced membrane process that can produce potable water from wastewater. However, the presence of diverse pollutants in the wastewater necessitates effective pretreatment to ensure successful RO implementation. This study evaluated the efficiency of microfiltration (MF) and ultrafiltration (UF) as two pretreatment methods prior to RO, i.e., MF-RO and UF-RO, for recycling poultry slaughterhouse wastewater (PSWW). The direct treatment of PSWW with RO (direct RO) was also considered for comparison. In this study, membrane technology serves as a post treatment for PSWW, which was conventionally treated at Sanderson Farm. The results demonstrated that all of the processes, including MF-RO, UF-RO, and direct RO treatment of PSWW, rejected 100% of total phosphorus (TP), over 91.2% of chemical oxygen demand (COD), and 87% of total solids (TSs). Total nitrogen (TN) levels were reduced to 5 mg/L for MF-RO, 4 mg/L for UF-RO, and 9 mg/L for direct RO. In addition, the pretreatment of PSWW with MF and UF increased RO flux from 46.8 L/m2 h to 51 L/m2 h, an increase of approximately 9%. The product water obtained after MF-RO, UF-RO, and direct RO meets the required potable water quality standards for recycling PSWW in the poultry industry. A cost analysis demonstrated that MF-RO was the most economical option among membrane processes, primarily due to MF operating at a lower pressure and having a high water recovery ratio. In contrast, the cost of using RO without MF and UF pretreatments was approximately 2.6 times higher because of cleaning and maintenance expenses related to fouling. This study concluded that MF-RO is a preferable option for recycling PSWW. This pretreatment method would significantly contribute to environmental sustainability by reusing well-treated PSWW for industrial poultry purposes while maintaining cost efficiency. In recent years, deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) have shown promising performance in medical image analysis, including breast lesion classification in 2D ultrasound (US) images. Despite the outstanding performance of DCNN solutions, explaining their decisions remains an open investigation. Yet, the explainability of DCNN models has become essential for healthcare systems to accept and trust the models. This paper presents a novel framework for explaining DCNN classification decisions of lesions in ultrasound images using the saliency maps linking the DCNN decisions to known cancer characteristics in the medical domain. The proposed framework consists of three main phases. First, DCNN models for classification in ultrasound images are built. Next, selected methods for visualization are applied to obtain saliency maps on the input images of the DCNN models. In the final phase, the visualization outputs and domain-known cancer characteristics are mapped. The paper then demonstrates the use of the framework for breast lesion classification from ultrasound images. We first follow the transfer learning approach and build two DCNN models. We then analyze the visualization outputs of the trained DCNN models using the EGrad-CAM and Ablation-CAM methods. We map the DCNN model decisions of benign and malignant lesions through the visualization outputs to the characteristics such as echogenicity, calcification, shape, and margin. A retrospective dataset of 1298 US images collected from different hospitals is used to evaluate the effectiveness of the framework. The test results show that these characteristics contribute differently to the benign and malignant lesions' decisions. Number connection test A (NCT-A) and digit symbol test (DST), the preferential neuropsychological tests to detect minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) in China, haven't been standardized in Chinese population. We aimed to establish the norms based on a multi-center cross-sectional study and to detect MHE in cirrhotic patients. NCT-A and DST were administered to 648 healthy controls and 1665 cirrhotic patients. The regression-based procedure was applied to develop demographically adjusted norms for NCT-A and DST based on healthy controls. Age, gender, education, and age by education interaction were all predictors of DST, while age, gender, and education by gender interaction were predictors of log10 NCT-A. The predictive equations for expected scores of NCT-A and DST were established, and Z-scores were calculated. The norm for NCT-A was set as Z ≤ 1.64, while the norm for DST was set as Z ≥ − 1.64. Cirrhotic patients with concurrent abnormal NCT-A and DST results were diagnosed with MHE. The prevalence of MHE was 8.89% in cirrhotic patients, and only worse Child–Pugh classification (P = 0.002, OR = 2.389) was demonstrated to be the risk factor for MHE. The regression-based normative data of NCT-A and DST have been developed to detect MHE in China. To investigate the effects of the waterway regulation structures on the hydraulic characteristics, water physicochemical factors, and the planktonic community in the upper Yangtze River, this study was conducted in August and September of 2022 on two ecological dikes in the Chongqing section of the upper Yangtze River: the longitudinal dike and the spur dike. High-throughput sequencing technology was used to explore the differences in planktonic community structures upstream and downstream of the waterway regulation structures during the dry season, as well as their main influencing factors. The results showed that the dissolved oxygen increased significantly, and the turbidity and flow rate decreased significantly in downstream of dikes. The spur dike exhibited more pronounced changes in water quality and hydrodynamic factors compared to the longitudinal dike. The diversity index of phytoplankton, zooplankton, and fungi in the downstream of dikes were higher than those in the upstream, and the bacterial diversity index was higher than those of eukaryotes at each sampling site. The impact of the spur dike on the planktonic biodiversity index was greater than that of the longitudinal dike, as it alters flow velocity, turbidity, and dissolved oxygen. The major phyla of phytoplankton, zooplankton, and bacteria, including Cryptophyta (70.37–80.57 %), Mollusca (7.56–37.50 %), and Proteobacteria (48.53–55.92 %), had a higher relative abundance in upstream of dike, and their relative abundance in spur dike was higher than that in longitudinal dike. In contrast, the relative abundance of the major phylum of fungi, Ascomycota (37.15–56.85 %), showed an opposite trend in both dike-to-dike comparison and dike upstream-to-downstream comparison to the above three plankton. The analysis of the neutral community model indicated that the predominance of stochastic assembly processes in the planktonic community was higher in the longitudinal dike compared to the spur dike, and longitudinal dike demonstrated higher rates of planktonic migration and speciation compared to the spur dike. Flow rate, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity were the significance influencing factors on the planktonic community structure in the aquatic environment around dike. Differences in dike-related environmental factors result in greater interactions among prokaryotes in the spur dike, while eukaryotes exhibited a more complex network of relationships in the longitudinal dike. Deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) have demonstrated promising performance in classifying breast lesions in 2D ultrasound (US) images. Exiting approaches typically use pre-trained models based on architectures designed for natural images with transfer learning. Fewer attempts have been made to design customized architectures specifically for this purpose. This paper presents a comprehensive evaluation on transfer learning based solutions and automatically designed networks, analyzing the accuracy and robustness of different recognition models in three folds. First, we develop six different DCNN models (BNet, GNet, SqNet, DsNet, RsNet, IncReNet) based on transfer learning. Second, we adapt the Bayesian optimization method to optimize a CNN network (BONet) for classifying breast lesions. A retrospective dataset of 3034 US images collected from various hospitals is then used for evaluation. Extensive tests show that the BONet outperforms other models, exhibiting higher accuracy (83.33%), lower generalization gap (1.85%), shorter training time (66 min), and less model complexity (approximately 0.5 million weight parameters). We also compare the diagnostic performance of all models against that by three experienced radiologists. Finally, we explore the use of saliency maps to explain the classification decisions made by different models. In this paper, an effective numerical method is proposed for a linear complementarity problem (LCP) arising in the valuation of American bond options under the Cox–Ingersoll–Ross (CIR) model. Firstly, a variable substitution is used to simplify the linear complementary model. Secondly, the finite difference method is adopted to discretize the simplified model, and an equivalent variational form is obtained. Based on the positive definiteness of the discretized matrix, a projection and contraction method (PCM) is adopted for the resulting discretized variational problem. In this study, a modified maximum tangential stress criterion by considering T-stress and uniaxial compression tests have been utilized to theoretically and experimentally reveal the fracture initiation mechanism of a center-symmetric closed crack in compacted clay. The results show that wing cracks occur in the linear elastic phase of the stress-strain curve. In the plastic phase of the stress-strain curve, the wing cracks extend gradually and the shear cracks occur. The crack initiation stress and peak stress of compacted clay first decrease with the rise in pre-crack inclination angle (β = 0°–40°), and then increase with the rise in pre-crack inclination angle (β = 50°–90°). When the pre-crack inclination angle is relatively small or large (β ≤ 10° or β ≥ 70°), the crack type is mainly tension cracks. Secondary shear cracks occur when the pre-crack inclination angle is 10°–80°. When the dimensionless crack length is larger than 0.35, the crack types include wing-type tension cracks and secondary shear cracks. The experimental results were compared with the theoretical values. It was found that the critical size rc of compacted clay under compression-shear loading was 0.75 mm, smaller than the value calculated by the empirical formula (12 mm). River bathymetry is a key variable in estimating river discharge by remote sensing. However, traditional methods of mapping river bathymetry are expensive and time-consuming, which hinders the estimation of river discharge. In this study, we propose and test a method for estimating river bathymetry by combining remotely sensed observations of water level (z) and river width (w) with a nonlinear z - w relationship derived from a generalized channel cross-sectional shape. The results from five reaches of the upper Yangtze River show that the absolute relative error for the estimate is between 1.25% and 6.18%, indicating the ability of this method to provide accurate estimates. The channel exposure (e) is the main limitation of the proposed method, and the river bathymetry estimates improve significantly with increasing e. For the upper Yangtze River, averaging reaches over an appropriate length can reduce variability in river bathymetry estimate, especially when data are reach-averaged over a length of 10 km. Considering that a priori bathymetric information is not required and its computational process is relatively simple, the proposed method could open up the possibility of bathymetry modeling of global rivers. This paper investigates the effects of support friction on mixed-mode I/II fracture behavior of compacted clay using notched deep beam (NDB) specimens under symmetric fixed support. Numerical models of 330 NDB specimens were established considering the crack inclination angle, crack length, support span, and support friction coefficient, and the normalized fracture parameters (YI, YII, and T*) of NDB specimens were calibrated. The numerical results showed that the values of YI, YII, and T* decreased at different degrees after considering the support friction. Notably, the support friction coefficient could significantly change the loading pattern at the crack tip. To verify this phenomenon, 12 compacted clay NDB specimens were prepared, and a mixed-mode I/II fracture test was performed under fixed support conditions; the phenomenon of asymmetric crack propagation was studied. The test data were processed using the numerical calibration results of YI, YII, and T* with and without consideration of friction. Afterward, the test data were compared and analyzed by combining the generalized maximum tangential stress (GMTS) and the maximum tangential stress (MTS) criteria. The analysis indicated that the real fracture characteristics of compacted clay NDB specimens could not be reflected when conducting mixed-mode I/II fracture tests under symmetric fixed support conditions if the test results were analyzed by YI, YII, and T* without considering support friction, as in previous studies. In this study, the inclined sandstone specimen is introduced into cyclic loading tests to fulfill the coupled compression-shear loading state. 21 cyclic coupled compression-shear loading tests are conducted on inclined specimens under different loading conditions, including maximum stress levels ranging in 0.80, 0.85, 0.90 and 0.95, and amplitude levels varying in 0.40, 0.50, 0.60 and 0.70. Our testing results systematically revealed the influence of cyclic loading parameters on fatigue mechanical response of rocks under coupled compression-shear loading, regarding the deformation characteristics, energy evolution, damage variable and failure mechanism. Under higher maximum stress or cyclic amplitude, inclined rocks are characterized by larger elastic modulus and higher dissipated energy, resulting in less irreversible strain, faster damage accumulation and shorter fatigue life. Furthermore, a fatigue life prediction method is proposed based on the energy dissipation, and its reliability is verified by comparing with experimental results. In addition, the progressive cracking behavior of rocks is analyzed during the fatigue tests by virtue of digital image correlation technique. Under cyclic coupled compression-shear loading, rock specimens are featured by a prominent shear-dominated failure along its short diagonal direction combined with local tensile damage along the loading orientation. Achieving rapid response and recovery rates at low operating temperatures for NO 2 is desirable for the application of sensors in industrial safety. In this study, we integrate a thickness tunable 2D graphdiyne (GDY) film into ZnO nanowalls (GDY/ZnO) via thermal evaporation of GDY, where ZnO nanowalls are used as the template to confine the growth space of the GDY film. In situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) is used to reveal the transformation process of NO 2. Ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy (UPS) is utilized to analyze changes about the energy band of the materials. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations explain the reason for the selectivity of the samples to NO 2. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results demonstrate that the thickness of the GDY film with a specific mesoporous structure (25‐53 nm) increases as the thermal evaporation temperature rises from 400 to 800°C.The representative ZG-600, synthesized with a thickness of 46 nm via thermal evaporation at 600°C, exhibits superior NO 2 sensing performance. This is evidenced by its ultrahigh response (13.86, at 100 ppm and 150°C) and rapid response/recovery speeds (150 s/198 s), outperforming the ZnO sensor (198 s and 326 s). The current two-dimensional (2D) material based NH 3 sensors generally suffer from low response values and sluggish recovery dynamics, which is resulted from their inferior conductivity. Herein, high conductivity (0.045 S/m) of 2D hydrogen substituted graphyne (HsGY) nanosheets are successfully synthesized employing aqueous/organic interface method and using them for the first time for the detection of NH 3 at room temperature. The resultant gas sensing performance shows that the 2D HsGY nanosheets exhibit a high gas response value (4.9) to 100 ppm NH 3 and fast recovery time (108 s) at the room temperature. The NH 3 gas sensing mechanism is discussed by utilizing density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The present study provides novel gas sensing material for the development of high-performance room temperature NH 3 sensors. This study successfully synthesized two-dimensional hydrogen substituted graphyne (HsGY) nanosheets using an aqueous/organic interface method and applied them for the detection of NH 3 at room temperature for the first time. In recent years, the potential use and development of acetone gas sensors in health monitoring and self-diagnostic applications has attracted increasing attention. Thus, accurate sensing of acetone is of crucial importance in the non-invasive diagnosis of diabetes. However, challenges remain in the detection of acetone, such as high concentrations detection limit, high operating temperature and slow response dynamics. Herein, vertically aligned Ce-doped mesoporous NiO nanowalls are prepared on Ag-Pd interdigitated electrode substrate using an in-situ growth method. The gas sensing performances show that the as-made 4 mol% Ce-doped NiO nanowalls has excellent gas response value (3.2) to 10 ppm acetone at a lower operating temperature (175 ℃) with fast adsorption and desorption equilibrium (13 s/7 s). The complex response of underground geomaterials subjected to dynamic disturbance arises from the microstructure redistribution under high in- situ stress and the resulting fracture behaviors at multiaxial stress states. Inclined specimens were employed in an axially constrained split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) system to achieve a combination of compression-shear stress states and static-dynamic loads. The loading rate under investigation ranged from 500 to 4,000 GPa/s, along with the axial prestress of 7, 21, 35, 49, and 63 MPa on specimens with an inclination of 0°, 3°, 5°, and 7°. The modified SHPB experimentation and discrete-element method modeling were implemented to unravel the combined effects of the loading rate, preload, and stress path on the failure mechanism of sandstone specimens involving the failure strength and envelope, fracturing pattern, fragmentation, and microcracking process. The positive rate dependence of the failure strength and Drucker–Prager envelope was observed. The preload showed double effects on the failure strength, indicated by an upper bound of the failure envelope as it expanded with the increasing preload. The microdamage accumulated during preloading and the global stress field collectively influenced the failure pattern of the inclined specimen, altering from a shear fracturing mode under dynamic loading or high-preload static-dynamic loading to an axial splitting mode near the specimen surface under low-preload static-dynamic loading. • The flower-like TiO 2 microspheres were synthesized by a tunable tetrabutyl titanate-assisted hydrothermal method. • The as-made gas sensors showed high sensitivity and selectivity to NH 3 at the room temperature. • The underlying mechanism for the high selectivity to NH 3 was discussed using DFT calculations. However, in the early stage of cirrhosis, there seems to be a possibility of cirrhosis reversal. The development of cirrhosis is related to the intestinal microbiota and activation of toll-like receptors (TLRs) pathways, which could regulate cell proliferation, apoptosis, expression of the hepatomitogen epiregulin, and liver inflammation. Targeting regulation of intestinal microbiota and TLRs pathways could affect the occurrence and development of cirrhosis and its complications. In this paper, we first reviewed the dynamic change of intestinal microbiota and TLRs during cirrhosis progression. Fast detection of triethylamine, one of the effective indicators to assess the freshness of fish and seafood, becomes more and more important for the food safety. Yet, the gas transport and diffuse activity are limited by the solid internal structure or the unsuitable pores size of the gas sensing materials, which results in the sluggish surface reaction kinetics. Herein, a strategy was reported to synthesis of hollow Co 3 O 4 microtubes assembled by vertically aligned nanosheets via sacrificial template of MgO combined with the following thermal annealing. The gas sensing results reveal that the hollow Co 3 O 4 -200 microtubes exhibit fast response-recovery time (13 s and 81 s) and outstanding gas selectivity, stability towards 200 ppm TEA at 180 ℃, which is ascribed to the large specific surface area, rich oxygen vacancies, and suitable pore size. This unique approach sheds light on the designing potential gas sensing candidates for the fast detection of TEA gas used as safety food monitoring and healthcare. • The hollow nanosheet-assembled Co3O4microtubes were synthesized via a simple sacrificial template strategy. • The fabricated Co3O4-200sensor displayed excellent TEA-sensing performance with fast response and recovery properties. • The large specific surface area and suitable pore size are the main reasons for the improved sensing properties.
