This exploratory study investigated the outcomes of the program 'Des mots pour les maux', a program adapted to French and aimed at re-educating different components of written language on graphophonological correspondences and spelling representations with six students with dyslexia or at risk of presenting such disorder. The study is divided into 2 phases which 6 measures are taken: Phase 1 (at the beginning of the study, and 3 and 6 weeks after standard orthopedagogical interventions) and phase 2 (8 weeks, 16 weeks and 24 weeks after introducing the program tested) in order to assess the skills before and after the introduction of the program. The results suggest some improvement regarding phonological correspondences in reading and, more importantly, orthographic representations in reading and spelling 16 weeks after using the program. This study has thus indicated that dyslexic or at-risk students could benefit from this program 'Des mots pour les maux'. - Abstract
Objectives: This study assessed the feasibility and acceptability of two types of innovative approaches, namely biofeedback-assisted relaxation in virtual reality ([VR]-delivered biofeedback) and yoga in the management of pediatric headaches. The secondary aim was to evaluate the preliminary efficacy of both interventions.Method: Children were randomized to three conditions: waiting list, yoga, and VR-delivered biofeedback. Feasibility was assessed by applicability to the pain problem, and acceptability by attendance (missed sessions, dropout rate) and the use of learned strategies in everyday life. Preliminary efficacy was evaluated with questionnaires: frequency of headaches, functional disabilities, pain anxiety, and pain catastrophizing. Mean scale scores postintervention and two months afterward were compared with the baseline with repeated-measures analyses of variance and contrast analyses. Results: A total of 46 children were enrolled; 39 completed the questionnaires at the baseline and participated in interventions. Regarding feasibility, the safety of the interventions seems demonstrated by the absence or infrequency of headaches during sessions. Regarding acceptability, compliance with the sessions was excellent for VR-delivered biofeedback condition and satisfactory for yoga. Most of the children reported using the strategies learned in daily life, even after the interventions. Regarding efficacy, participants reported significantly fewer headaches and functional disabilities postintervention and 2 months later. Minimal or no effects were observed on pain anxiety and pain catastrophizing. Conclusion: This pilot study indicates that VR-delivered biofeedback and yoga exercises may be feasible and acceptable interventions for the treatment of pediatric headaches.Implications for Impact Statement This study evaluates the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of two innovative interventions for pediatric headaches: virtual reality-delivered biofeedback and yoga exercises. The findings indicate that these interventions are feasible and applicable (good attendance, limited or no discomfort, and positive evaluation) and show preliminary efficacy (improvements in frequency of headaches and functional disabilities).

- Abstract
Background Cognitive difficulties are a frequent complaint in long COVID and persist for more than a year post- infection. There is a lack of evidence-based data on effective intervention strategies. Non-pharmacological intervention programs that are used with other neurological populations have not yet been the subject of controlled trials. COVCOG is a multicentric, randomized trial comparing cognitive intervention and a cognitive-behavioural counselling. Methods/design Patients with long covid are selected and recruited at least three months post-infection. Patients are randomised in a 1:1 ratio into the cognitive (neuropsychological psychoeducation) and affective (emotion management with cognitive-behavioural counselling) intervention arms. The inclusion of 130 patients is planned. The cognitive intervention includes psycho-educational modules on fatigue and sleep, attention and working memory, executive functions and long-term memory. The affective intervention includes modules on emotion recognition and communication, uncertainty management and behavioral activation. The main objective is to reduce cognitive complaints 2 months after the intervention. A Follow-up is also planned at 8 months. Discussion Given the long-term effects of Covid on cognition and the negative effects of cognitive impairment on quality of life and social participation, it is important to determine whether low-dose, non-pharmacological interventions can be effective. The trial will determine which of the usual types of intervention is the most effective. Trial registration Clinicaltrials.gov Number: NCT05167266 (21/12/ 2021)., info:eu-repo/semantics/published

Stress influences metabolic activity and increases risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). We sought to a) examine feasibility and acceptability of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) in older adults at risk for CVD, and b) obtain preliminary data on its metabolic impact. A pilot RCT was conducted using a pre-post, 2-month follow-up design. Eighty-one individuals with metabolic syndrome and non-normative responses to stress in a previous investigation were invited. Participants were randomized (by sex and stress response) to a 9-week MBSR or a wait-list control group. Feasibility and acceptability were assessed and blood assayed. Between-subjects (MBSR vs waitlist control) ANOVAs on metabolic parameter change scores, and one-way repeated measures ANOVAs (pre-, post-, follow-up) were performed. Thirty-three individuals (41%) responded to invitations, 26 were interested, of whom 19 were randomized (M
age = 67 years, SD = 7.70). Completion rate of MBSR was 72% and overall attendance was 96%. Reported benefits included increased relaxation, greater interpersonal connection, and increased body awareness. MBSR led to a decrease of 15% in LDL cholesterol and 10% in total cholesterol versus 4.5% and 1%, respectively, in the waitlist. Within group analyses showed notable decreases in LDL, triglycerides, and waist circumference post-MBSR and 2 months later. A RCT was largely feasible and MBSR acceptable to participants. MBSR may lead to sustained decreases in cholesterol levels, warranting development of large-scale research on this topic. Given the role of stress in CVD, addition of stress management interventions may serve as a useful complement to risk management among older individuals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

- Abstract
Background: Unravelling the mystery of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) requires urgent resolution given the worldwide increase of the aging population. There is a growing concern that the current leading AD hypothesis, the amyloid cascade hypothesis, does not stand up to validation with respect to emerging new data. Indeed, several paradoxes are being discussed in the literature, for instance, both the deposition of the amyloid-ß peptide (Aß) and the intracellular neurofibrillary tangles could occur within the brain without any cognitive pathology. Thus, these paradoxes suggest that something more fundamental is at play in the onset of the disease and other key and related pathomechanisms must be investigated. Objective: The present study follows our previous investigations on the infectious hypothesis, which posits that some pathogens are linked to late onset AD. Our studies also build upon the finding that Aß is a powerful antimicrobial agent, produced by neurons in response to viral infection, capable of inhibiting pathogens as observed in in vitroexperiments. Herein, we ask what are the molecular mechanisms in play when Aß neutralizes infectious pathogens? Methods: To answer this question, we probed at nanoscale lengths with FRET (Förster Resonance Energy Transfer), the interaction between Aß peptides and glycoprotein B (responsible of virus-cell binding) within the HSV-1 virionResults: The experiments show an energy transfer between Aß peptides and glycoprotein B when membrane is intact. No energy transfer occurs after membrane disruption or treatment with blocking antibody. Conclusion: We concluded that Aß insert into viral membrane, close to glycoprotein B, and participate in virus neutralization.

This thesis, based on four works by Bernard-Marie Koltès, proposes to problematize the intersubjective relationships staged in the author's work according to the motif of desire. Its aim is to understand the form of desire on which the interhuman relationships represented by Koltès are built. Rather than basing our approach on a psychoanalytical reading, our perspective is based on the concept of desire as forged by the philosopher and anthropologist René Girard. This particular approach allowed us to identify a certain logic in the apparently arbitrary and contradictory behaviors of the protagonists. We linked together gestures, attitudes, and emotional reversals that often appear foreign to each other in order to show a different facet of the Koltesian texts. The first chapter is devoted to the status of objects in Koltès' work; even if they are at the center of the exchanges, their function is essentially that of a pretext. The second chapter treats the ambivalence of the intersubjective relationships that unite the protagonists; the aim here is to understand the basis of this duality (love/hate) which characterizes the relations between the Koltesian subjects. By a detour through the theories of recognition, the third chapter discusses the stratagems put in place by the protagonists to maintain intersubjective relations necessary to the development of their being without admitting their existential need of others. Ultimately, it is about understanding what unites characters who are openly hostile to each other.

Quelques suggestions de nouvelles pistes de recherche à poursuivre et de nouveaux thèmes à explorer complètent ce travail., This doctoral dissertation focuses on a contemporary phenomenon that has been understudied until now: the recent migration of highly educated, professional, and academic women. This profile corresponds to that of a significant proportion of Italian women who, since the 1990s, have left their country for large European cities or the North American continent. This movement intensified in the 2000s and, even more so after the financial crisis of 2008. This study is based on a qualitative analysis of the migration experience of 32 Italian women, aged 25 to 65, all with a university degree, who arrived in Montreal between 1990 and 2016. The study is in line with North American and European scientific literature on oral history, the history of migration and the new perspectives brought by its encounter with the history of women and gender. The aim is to take a critical look at this contemporary Italian female mobility that is educated and qualified. Thirty-two semi-directed interviews allowed us to explore in depth this recent migratory phenomenon and to grasp the meaning of this feminine experience, the attitude of these Italian women towards the status of women and feminism, in Italy and in Quebec, the existential choices that this migratory experience has demanded of them as women and intellectuals, in their private and public lives, and the possible changes that have resulted in terms of identity, religion and ideology. The objective is to define the socio-cultural profile of these women, their geographical, social and cultural origins, their educational and professional background in Italy and in the context of migration, and to explore the reasons that led them to leave Italy and choose Montreal. It also examines the complex migratory paths of these Italian women, the main challenges they have faced, and interprets these issues in their respective departure and arrival contexts. Migration and institutional policies, women’s status and reforms, unemployment and employment opportunities, access to education and academic careers in both countries are the main themes explored in this study. The analysis of the interviews allows us to verify to what extent and in what ways these thirty-two public and private stories reflect the migratory movements of our time. It also enables us to contrast the mobility of these migrant women with that of the Italian women who preceded them in Canada and Quebec, in the very different socio-economic contexts that marked the end of the 20th century and the 21st century. Thus, the globalization of the economy and the advent of digital media, to name but two examples, have generated new forms of identity, mixed, fluid and fragmented, by putting in direct communication these two worlds, the one of departure and the one of arrival, which were previously much more distant. Most of the women in my focus group are from northern Italy, belong to the lower or middle bourgeoisie, and have a high level of education. The political, economic, and cultural climate of the country encouraged them to leave; the many opportunities for education and employment, a better quality of life, and respect for human rights made them choose Montreal. Complex itineraries, fortuitous encounters, both professional and sentimental, and the fundamental role played by profession and career are some of the characteristics of this recent female migration.

Objectives: To evaluate the feasibility of the Bali Yoga Programme for Residents (PYB-R), an 8-week virtual yoga-based intervention and determine its impact on the mental health of resident physicians., Design: Single-group repeated measures study., Setting: Associations from the four postgraduate medical education programmes in Québec, Canada., Participants: Overall, 55 resident physicians were recruited to participate of which 53 (96.4%) completed the assessment pre-PYB-R. The postintervention assessment was completed by 43 residents (78.2%) and 39 (70.9%) completed all phases (including 3-month follow-up). Most were in their first year (43.4%) or second year (32.1%) of residency. The majority were female (81.1%) with a mean age of 28±3.6 years., Primary and Secondary Outcome Measures: The primary outcome measure was feasibility as measured by participation in the PYB-R. Secondary outcome measures were psychological variables (anxiety, depression, burn-out, emotional exhaustion, compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction) and satisfaction with the PYB-R. Residents were further subgrouped based on the quality of work life and a number of PYB-R sessions attended., Results: The attrition rate for programme completion was 19%. Of the 43 residents who completed the PYB-R, 90.6% attended between 6 and 8 sessions. Repeated-measures analysis of variances (ANOVAs) at three time points (baseline, PYB-R completion and 3-month follow-up) confirmed a decrease in scores for depression and anxiety, and an increase in scores for compassion satisfaction. No changes were observed in the other psychological variables evaluated. ANOVAs also confirmed that a better quality of life at work helps develop compassion satisfaction, a protective factor to compassion fatigue. Most participants (92.9%) indicated they were satisfied or very satisfied with the quality of the programme., Conclusions: A virtual yoga-based programme is feasible and has lasting positive effects for up to 3 months on the mental health of resident physicians. Further research is warranted to validate these findings using a larger sample of residents with a control group., Competing Interests: Competing interests: None declared., (© Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2024.
