- Abstract
Sustainable tourism is a management model that can easily be applied in the territories declared as "Pueblo Mágico", promoting economic strengthening, as well as opportunities for environmental and cultural preservation, by means of tourism through the use of the historical–cultural characteristics of these territories. One of the main challenges is to find a balance between promoting tourism and conserving intangible cultural heritage. In July 2024, Guano, located in the province of Chimborazo, Ecuador, was re-accredited within the Magical Towns of Ecuador Program. Within this process, one of the main elements to reach this milestone was creating a meaningful tourism experience based on one of the cultural manifestations certified as part of the intangible cultural heritage of Ecuador: the weaving technique used to create Guano knotted carpets. This article examines how this technique was integrated into tourism development by focusing on knowledge transfer and symbolic and historical value, avoiding tourist overexploitation, which can lead to the erosion of traditions and loss of their cultural significance. The methodology used is a participatory action research methodology. This experience not only offers an opportunity for tourists to connect with local culture, but it can also be a driver of sustainable development. By integrating this tradition into a responsible tourism model, economic, social, and environmental benefits can be generated, which strengthen communities and preserve their cultural heritage. To sum up, sustainable tourism in Guano, Ecuador, can balance tourism promotion and cultural heritage preservation, and the integration of the knotted carpet weaving technique as a tourism experience strengthens local identity and generates economic, social, and environmental benefits, promoting sustainable development and avoiding cultural commodification. - Abstract

Improved management water resources in order to maintain aquatic ecosystems and avoiding overexploitation maintaining an adequate long-term supply of freshwater quality, is one of the environmental objectives of the EU 2020. Although many countries show a sustainable use of water, there are areas facing scarcity problems, at least seasonal or local level. Given that water quality is closely linked to the amount of it, the relationship between water withdrawal and renewal of the stock is a matter of vital importance in sustainable management of resources. Thus, the aim of this paper is to analyze the Water Exploitation Index (WEI) as an indicator able to assess the pressure exerted by water withdrawal on water resources allowing policies to adjust supply and demand. A WEI above 20% indicates the presence of water stress and 40% or more, strong competition for water with difficulty maintaining healthy ecosystems. The data study shows that while water is generally plentiful in Europe, the shortage continues to affect certain areas at specific times of the year. In winter about 6% of the total population of Europe lives in conditions of water stress, while in summer the figure stands at 14% reaching up to 53% in Mediterranean areas. Service sector has become one of the main pressures on renewable water resources with the 11% of total consumption. Small Mediterranean islands in particular are under severe water stress conditions due toreceiving 15 times more tourists than they have local inhabitants.

Highlights: What are the main findings? The presence of marine litter in sublittoral areas is determined by the density of coastal tourist territories and is lower in areas predominantly used for tourism versus those of mostly resi-dential use; Data collection methodology using depth line transects is essential for estimating marine litter density; The presence of macro debris from motor vehicle tyres is independent of urban areas and their associated density and is also unrelated to maritime access. What are the implications of the main finding? The density of coastal tourist territories plays a crucial role in determining the possible presence of marine litter in sublittoral areas and developing specific preventive policies; It is not possible, with current technology, to use remote means of complex surface and bottom collection of marine litter without depth transects; The deposition of a characteristic type of marine litter, used tyres, shows patterns of occurrence totally independent of coastal urban density. The coastal strip, characterized by the urbanization of coastal tourist territories (CTTs), has expanded over decades through civil engineering, altering the shoreline dynamics and creating artificial beaches crucial for tourism. To examine the relationship between extensive land use in CTTs for tourism and residences and the presence of marine litter, a specific parametric study was conducted along the coast of Tenerife, the largest island in the Canary Islands. Due to Tenerife's geographical location and exposure to the descending Gulf Stream flow, the coastal waters in the selected zone experience waste impact at both local and global scales. However, the presence of marine litter deposited by ocean currents is at a micro level and falls outside the scope of this report. This study parameterised urban reality in study areas, and the presence of macro waste has been parameterised using standardised units of measurement. This enables the establishment of source measurements that will contribute to preventative measures against this type of coastal pollution. The interdependence between tourist zoning, civil seafront engineering works along the seafront, and marine litter presence in inaccessible and visible areas for tourists requires a methodology to better understand waste origin and loading areas. This knowledge is crucial for an effective local monitoring system. A quantitative overlay reading methodology has been designed in the urban setting through calculations of urban densities, while examining the waste in these areas' immediate infralittoral flooring through the use of visual underwater extraction. Anticipating the type and quantity of waste in each area will allow for the implementation of effective awareness, promoting action for preventative and corrective measures at the urban level. The results show a direct dependence between urban density and the presence of waste, as well as an equation that makes it possible to anticipate the amount of waste according to urban density and its relational vector. There is no discontinuity between them, as each area is affected by others to the extent that they establish the parametric continuity conditions determining each field. Therefore, it is possible to relate them beyond a one-on-one relationship. This approach fosters sustainable tourism development, reducing pressure on the sea and enhancing the utilisation of tourism revenues in measures to address waste-related challenges and promotes sustainable tourism development in Europe's coastal regions. Debates on how growth and urbanization affect the environment have been intense, but they lack the global perspective. Therefore, this research examined those relationships, and to a greater extent other forms of global environmental degradation, such as foreign direct investment (FDI). It also explored the relationships between industrialization and technologies. The results, using Westerlund cointegration and quantile regressions over the period 1995–2017, show cointegration and regional heterogeneities in the environmental transmissions of economic development, industrialization, renewable energy, urbanization and FDI. The results show that economic development generates more environmental degradation in all quantiles at a global level, whereas urbanization and renewable energy reduce environmental degradation in all quantiles, with the highest effect being in the upper quantiles. On the other hand, industrialization affects the lower quantiles negatively and significantly but affects the upper quantiles positively. Finally, the empirical analysis supports the paradise haven or pollution halo hypothesis (PHH) for the 40th, 50th, 60th and 80th quantiles. This suggests that FDI inflows have a detrimental effect on the host country for these quantiles. Therefore, among the objectives of the policies are to give priority to more sustainable economic growth processes, which contribute to reducing environmental degradation, and furthermore to reinforce strict environmental laws on investment inflows and to build sustainable urbanization and industrialization processes for countries. - Abstract
[Abstract] On the island of Ibiza, the sixties and seventies saw a touristic boom and the rise of hippies. The hippie presence ended shortly after, but left various elements considered to be direct legacies. Among these elements, it is worth highlighting the creation of a local fashion inspired by traditional clothing and hippies. This fashion was called Adlib and has its appearance date in 1971 with the first Ibiza Fashion Week. In this paper, a case study is carried out, supported by interviews, which delves into the historical evolution and the current situation of Adlib Ibiza fashion and the businesses under this umbrella brand. Adlib fashion has always had more relevance as a tool for promoting and differentiating tourism than as an independent economic sector. Even so, it is a small sector made up of small or micro businesses created by entrepreneurs from the island who seek to market their designs. Unfortunately, many businesses fail shortly after their opening and do not survive the retirement of their founder, due to the strong link of these businesses to the designs and creations of their owner. The evolution of the brand and its businesses undermines any optimism in future trends, and possibly suggests a slow decline.

- Abstract
[Abstract]: The island of Ibiza is a western Mediterranean destination known internationally for its nightlife. The aim of this paper is to make a proposal to classify the different types of premises in the Ibiza nightlife offer. This involves making a first definition that allows to delimit which businesses are parts of the sector. The methodology used is based on the case study and specifically, on the review of the promotional actions and activities carried out, completed with the visit to the premises. The classification has been made based on the offer marketed and not only on the legal forms used, as innovation goes ahead of the existing legal classifications. Although it is a particular application, due to the international importance of Ibiza, it is a good starting point to classify the nightlife offer of many other tourist destinations. The resulting typology divides the sector into two large groups: nightclubs and other premises. While nightclubs have musical parties as their main activity declared, the other premises have accommodation or catering as their main activity, with music being an element of differentiation. Nightclubs are divided into several subgroups, depending on their size and relevance. The other premises are subdivided into Beach Clubs, Hotel Clubs, Party Boats, Lounge Clubs, Disco Pubs, among others.
