Objectives. To describe prevalence of breast milk feeding among people with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection during pregnancy and examine associations between breast milk feeding, timing of maternal infection before delivery, and rooming-in status during delivery hospitalization. Methods. We performed a retrospective cohort study using data from Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee of whether people with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy in 2020 initiated breast milk feeding at birth. Results. Among 11 114 (weighted number) people with SARS-CoV-2 infection in pregnancy, 86.5% (95% confidence interval [CI] = 82.4%, 87.6%) initiated breast milk feeding during birth hospitalization. People with infection within 14 days before delivery had significantly lower prevalence of breast milk feeding (adjusted prevalence ratio [APR] = 0.88; 95% CI = 0.83, 0.94) than did those with infection at least 14 days before delivery. When stratified by rooming-in status, the association between timing of infection and breast milk feeding remained only among infants who did not room in with their mother (APR = 0.77; 95% CI = 0.68, 0.88). Conclusions. Pregnant and postpartum people with SARS-CoV-2 infection should have access to lactation support and be advised about the importance of breast milk feeding and how to safely feed their infants in the same room. Examinamos el poema «Meditación» de María Gertrudis Hore (1742-1801) en el contexto de la influencia del poeta británico Edward Young y su Night Thoughts en España. Lejos de hacer una mera imitación de famosos textos escritos por hombres como José Cadalso (Noches lúgubres) y Juan Meléndez Valdés («La noche y la soledad»), o del mismo Young, el texto de María Gertrudis Hore nos ofrece una perspectiva de género que la destaca de sus contemporáneos, lo cual identificamos con la ayuda de las ideas sobre la melancolía del psicoanálisis.

O presente texto discute as contribuições do artigo A América Latina na encruzilhada do tempo presente, de Muniz Ferreira, que traça um percurso histórico da América Latina dos anos 1930 até os dias de hoje, constantemente sublinhando as tensões entre as forças dominantes (neo)liberais e conservadoras e as forças progressistas e discutindo a situação sócio-econômico-política na maioria dos países da região. Na primeira parte do texto, dialogamos diretamente com as ideias de Ferreira, acrescentando, onde possível, outras observações complementares às suas análises. Na segunda parte, criamos em diálogo entre Ferreira (2022) e Butler ([2015] 2018; [2009] 2015), com base em um problema que ambos/as confrontam em suas escritas: a dificuldade de fazer com que as pessoas reconheçam as condições que têm em comum, apesar de suas diferenças, para fazer atuação política conjunta em prol de melhorias permanentes em suas condições de vida.

Objective To describe prevalence of breastmilk feeding among people with SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy and examine associations between breastmilk feeding, timing of maternal infection before delivery, and rooming-in status during delivery hospitalization. Methods Retrospective cohort using data from five states reporting initiation of breastmilk feeding of infants at birth among people with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy in 2020. Results Among 9760 (weighted N) people with SARS-CoV-2 infection in pregnancy, 86.0% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 83.3%-88.7%) initiated breastmilk feeding during birth hospitalization. People with infection ≤ 14 days before delivery had significantly lower prevalence of breastmilk feeding (adjusted prevalence ratio [aPR] 0.90, 95% CI: 0.82, 0.97) compared to those with infection > 14 days before delivery. When stratified by rooming-in status, the association between timing of infection and breastmilk feeding remained only among infants who did not room-in with their mother (aPR 0.78, 95% CI: 0.66, 0.92). Conclusion Pregnant and postpartum people with SARS-CoV-2 infection should be advised about the importance of breastmilk feeding, how to safely feed their infants in the same room, and have access to lactation support.

Between 2010 and 2015, the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) conducted a biomonitoring program to gather exposure data on Great Lakes contaminants among licensed anglers and Burmese refugees living in western New York who ate locally caught fish. Four hundred and nine adult licensed anglers and 206 adult Burmese refugees participated in this program. Participants provided blood and urine samples and completed a detailed questionnaire. Herein, we present blood metal levels (cadmium, lead, and total mercury) and serum persistent organic pollutant concentrations [polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (DDE), and trans-nonachlor]. Multiple linear regression was applied to investigate the associations between analyte concentrations and indicators of fish consumption (locally caught fish meals, store-bought fish meals, and consuming fish/shellfish in the past week). Licensed anglers consumed a median of 16 locally caught fish meals and 22 store-bought fish meals while Burmese refugees consumed a median of 106 locally caught fish meals and 104 store-bought fish/shellfish meals in the past year. Compared to the general U.S. adult population, licensed anglers had higher blood lead and mercury levels; and Burmese refuges had higher blood cadmium, lead, and mercury, and higher serum DDE levels. Eating more locally caught fish was associated with higher blood lead, blood mercury, and serum ∑PCBs concentrations among licensed anglers. Licensed anglers and Burmese refugees who reported fish/shellfish consumption in the past week had elevated blood mercury levels compared with those who reported no consumption. Among licensed anglers, eating more store-bought fish meals was also associated with higher blood mercury levels. As part of the program, NYSDOH staff provided fish advisory outreach and education to all participants on ways to reduce their exposures, make healthier choices of fish to eat, and waters to fish from. Overall, our findings on exposure levels and fish consumption provide information to support the development and implementation of exposure reduction public health actions.

PONTIFÍCIA UNIVERSIDADE CATÓLICA DO RIO DE JANEIRO COORDENAÇÃO DE APERFEIÇOAMENTO DO PESSOAL DE ENSINO SUPERIOR PROGRAMA DE SUPORTE À PÓS-GRADUAÇÃO DE INSTITUIÇÕES COMUNITÁRIAS DE ENSINO PARTICULARES A presente pesquisa tem como objetivo principal contribuir com entendimentos sobre a prática da enfermagem durante o período reconhecido como o de pandemia da COVID-19 no município do Rio de Janeiro. Através da análise de narrativas emergentes na entrevista, objetivo elucubrar sobre as emoções que afloram no discurso (LE BRETON, 2009), as interações sócio discursivas nas quais identidades emergem e interagem entre si (MOITA LOPES, 2001; 2006) e evidências da ação de correntes hegemônicas (FAIRCLOUGH, 2001a; 2001b). A fim de subsidiar tal investigação, amparo-me no Sistema de Avaliatividade (MARTIN; ROSE, 2007) em diálogo com a Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional (HALLIDAY; MATHIESSEN, 2014) para augurar uma análise micro situada e na Linguística Aplicada Contemporânea (MOITA LOPES, 2006) e a Análise do Discurso Crítica (CHOULIARAKI; FAIRCLOUGH, 1999; VAN DJIK, 2005) para conjecturar uma análise macro. Assim, alinhando-me aos conceitos promulgados pela pesquisa qualitativa (DENZIN; LINCOLN, 2006), analiso as narrativas de sofrimento de enfermeiros e técnicos em enfermagem que vivenciaram a situação pandêmica desde o seu início, observando de que forma situam a si mesmos e os outros, se posicionam axiologicamente perante a sociedade e as correntes hegemônicas e os atravessamentos de suas experiências. Através das entrevistas, foram estruturados quatro blocos de análise sendo estes: O Início da Pandemia, Politica(gem), A Linha de Frente e O Pós (?) pandemia. Os resultados sugerem que estes profissionais suportaram uma fastidiosa carga emocional e física exigida no exercício da profissão no período em questão e evidenciam a interferência de interesses hegemônicos nas práticas discursivas e profissionais desses indivíduos. The main objective of this research is to contribute to understandings about nursing practice during the period recognized as the COVID-19 pandemic in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Through the analysis of emerging narratives in the nondirective interview, I aim to elucidate about what emotions emerge in discourse (LE BRETON, 2009), the socio-discursive interactions in which identities emerge and interact with each other (MOITA LOPES, 2001; 2006) and evidence of hegemonic currents in the action (FAIRCLOUGH, 2001a; 2001b). In order to support this investigation, I rely on the Evaluation System (MARTIN; ROSE, 2007) in dialogue with Systemic-Functional Linguistics (HALLIDAY; MATHIESSEN, 2014) to inaugurate a micro-situated analysis and on Contemporary Applied Linguistics (MOITA LOPES, 2006) and Critical Discourse Analysis (CHOULIARAKI; FAIRCLOUGH, 1999; VAN DJIK, 2005) to conjecture a macro analysis. Aligning myself with the concepts promulgated by qualitative research (DENZIN; LINCOLN, 2006), I analyze the suffering narratives of nurses and nursing technicians who have experienced the pandemic situation since its beginning. Thus, observing how they situate themselves and the others, position themselves axiologically before society and the hegemonic currents and the crossings of their experiences. Through the interviews, four blocks of analysis were structured: O Início da Pandemia, Politica(gem), A Linha de Frente and O Pós (?) Pandemia. Results suggest that these professionals bore a lumbering emotional and physical load required in the exercise of the profession at that time and evidence interference of hegemonic interests in the discursive and professional practices of these individuals.

PONTIFÍCIA UNIVERSIDADE CATÓLICA DO RIO DE JANEIRO COORDENAÇÃO DE APERFEIÇOAMENTO DO PESSOAL DE ENSINO SUPERIOR PROGRAMA DE SUPORTE À PÓS-GRADUAÇÃO DE INSTITUIÇÕES COMUNITÁRIAS DE ENSINO PARTICULARES Considerando os processos de normalização de performances de gênero e sexualidade no contexto familiar, o presente trabalho se debruça sobre as histórias de vida de pessoas que se identificam como LGBTQIA+ acerca de suas experiências com seus familiares. Inserido nas investigações atuais da Linguística Aplicada, a partir da Análise de Narrativa – a qual tem buscado compreender, dentre outras coisas, os processos de produção de vulnerabilidade e subalternidade em práticas sociais e discursivas – buscase compreender os processos de construção identitária, performances, bem como os respectivos discursos que lhes dão suporte. Em um viés metodológico de pesquisa qualitativa e interpretativa, foram gerados dados em situação de entrevista com homens e mulheres cujas performances correspondem ao espectro de sexualidades supracitado. Destas, optou-se por analisar as narrativas de três participantxs. Para isso, foram mobilizadas discussões e ferramental teórico-analítico próprio à Análise de Narrativa, às análises sobre estigma de Goffman (1963) e à Linguística Queer. A análise se dá a partir da divisão laminar em três partes. Na primeira lâmina, busca-se mostrar como identidades são indexadas em relações de sequencialidade na produção de causalidade e por avaliações de modo a produzir a família como uma instituição repressora. Na segunda, pautado no trabalho de face, busca-se mostrar como ocorre a negociação do estigma na interação. Por fim, busca-se mostrar quais sistemas de coerência atuam na construção dessas histórias. A partir disso foi possível compreender como performances identitárias não alinhadas a ideias cis-heteronormativas desencadeiam processos de controle, regulação e repressão. Taking into account the processes of normalization of experiences of gender and sexuality in the family context, the present work focuses on the life stories of people who identify themselves as LGBTQIA+ regarding their life experiences with their family. As part in the contemporary researches of Applied Linguistics – which has been intending to understand the processes of production of vulnerability and subalternity in discursive and social practices – the processes of identity construction (performance) in these narratives as well as the respective discourses that support it are investigated. In a qualitative and interpretative research methodological bias, data were generated through interview with men and women whose performances correspond to the above-mentioned spectrum of sexualities; for the analysis it was chosen the narratives of three participants. For this, it was mobilized discussions and tools proper to the Narrative Analysis, Intercultural Sociolinguistics and Queer Linguistics. The analysis follows the laminar division in three parts. In the first, it is intent to demonstrate how identities are indexed through sequential relations in the production of causality and through evaluations in order to produce the family as a repressive institution. In the second, based on the face work, we seek to show how a stigma negotiation occurs in the interaction. Finally, based on lexical choices and evaluative sequences, it is intent to show how the Discourse of Repression is indexed in the narratives. From this, it was possible to understand how identity performances not coherent with cis-heternormative values triggered process of control, regulation and repression.
