This paper investigates a new vortex wave imaging approach to improve the imaging quality of small metal targets of size less than 1.5 mm. Antennas with different spiral phase plates are designed to efficiently transmit vortex beams with orbital angular momentums (OAMs). By analyzing the OAM spectrum of the target, it was discovered that the predominant reflection contains a particular OAM mode that carries abundant azimuthal information. This can be explained by the OAM selectivity of the target and the guidance of the vortex transmitting beam. A simple reflection vortex imaging system was designed to capture the phase information. Measurement results show that the high image contrast reaches 14.9%, which is twice as high as that of the imaging without OAM. Both of simulations and experiments demonstrate that the vortex phase imaging approach proposed in this paper can effectively improve the imaging quality at 80 GHz. This approach is suitable for other millimeter wave imaging systems and is helpful to improve the resolution in anti-terrorism security checks.

Iron is considered as an attractive alternative material for bioresorbable scaffolds (BRS). The sirolimus eluting iron bioresorbable scaffold (IBS), developed by Biotyx Medical (Shenzhen, China), is the only iron-based BRS with an ultrathin-wall design. The study aims to investigate the long-term efficacy, safety, biocompatibility, and lumen changes during the biodegradation process of the IBS in a porcine model. A total of 90 IBSs and 70 cobalt-chromium everolimus eluting stents (EES) were randomly implanted into nonatherosclerotic coronary artery of healthy mini swine. The multimodality assessments including coronary angiography, optical coherence tomography, micro-computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and histopathological evaluations, were performed at different time points. There was no statistical difference in area stenosis between IBS group and EES group at 6 months, 1year, 2 years and 5 years. Although the scaffolded vessels narrowed at 9 months, expansive remodeling with increased mean lumen area was found at 3 and 5 years. The IBS struts remained intact at 6 months, and the corrosion was detectable at 9 months. At 5 years, the iron struts were completely degraded and absorbed in situ, without in-scaffold restenosis or thrombosis, lumen collapse, aneurysm formation, and chronic inflammation. No local or systemic toxicity and abnormal histopathologic manifestation were found in all experiments. Results from real-time PCR indicated that no sign of iron overload was reported in scaffolded segments. Therefore, the IBS shows comparable efficacy, safety, and biocompatibility with EES, and late lumen enlargement is considered as a unique feature in the IBS-implanted vessels.

Abstract Federated learning (FL) enables users to train the global model cooperatively without exposing their private data across the engaged parties, which is widely used in privacy-sensitive business. However, during the life cycle of FL models, both adversaries’ attacks and ownership generalization threaten the FL models’ copyright and affect the models’ reliability. To address these problems, existing model watermarking techniques can be used to verify FL model’s ownership. However, due to the lack of credible binding from “model extracted watermarks” to “ownership verification”, it is difficult to form a closed-loop watermarking framework for copyright protection. Therefore, starting from the shortcomings of the current watermark verification scheme, this article proposed WFB, a blockchain-empowered watermarking framework for ownership verification of federated models. Firstly, we propose a improved watermark generation algorithm to solve the credibility issue of watermarks. Secondly, we propose a watermark embedding method in federated learning, while blockchain technology is used to ensure the credible storage of watermark information throughout the process. Thirdly, the credibility of ownership verification is improved because of the watermark authenticity. Experimental results demonstrate the fidelity, effectiveness and robustness of WFB, with other superiorities such as improving process security and traceability.

Abstract Targeted and immunotherapy combined with interventional therapy can improve the prognosis of advanced cancer patients, and it has become a hot spot to find the new therapeutic schemes, but most of which are not satisfactory. Single-cell RNA sequencing was performed in PDX mouse models with or without TCC therapy. 2-’O-Methylation modification and multiplex immunofluorescence staining were used to explore the function and mechanism of SAMD4B in the immune context of HCC. Here, we propose for the first time a synergistic immunochemotherapy that exerts a potent antitumour effect for patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in clinical practice based on three common antitumour drugs and found that HCC patients with new synergistic immunochemotherapy had better three-year overall survival (p = 0.004) and significantly higher survival ratio (increased by 2.3 times) than the control group. We further reveal the immunoregulatory mechanism of synergistic immunochemotherapy through 2’-O-Methylation modification mediated by SAMD4B, a tumour suppressor gene. Mechanistically, SAMD4B, increased by the reduced mutations of upstream genes NOTCH1 and NOTCH2, affected the instability of APOA2 mRNA by 2-’O-Methylation modification of the C-terminus. The decreased APOA2 further attenuated programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) level with a direct interaction pattern. The high-SAMD4B tumour tissues contained fewer native CD29+CD8+ T cells, which improved immune microenvironment to achieve the effect of antitumour effect. Overall, we developed a potent synergistic immunochemotherapy strategy that exerts an efficient anti-HCC effect inducing SAMD4B-APOA2-PD-L1 axis to inhibit tumour immune evasion.

Abstract Diabetes mellitus, a chronic metabolic disease, often leads to numerous chronic complications, significantly contributing to global morbidity and mortality rates. High glucose levels trigger epigenetic modifications linked to pathophysiological processes like inflammation, immunity, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, senescence and various kinds of cell death. Despite glycemic control, transient hyperglycemia can persistently harm organs, tissues, and cells, a latent effect termed "metabolic memory" that contributes to chronic diabetic complications. Understanding metabolic memory's mechanisms could offer a new approach to mitigating these complications. However, key molecules and networks underlying metabolic memory remain incompletely understood. This review traces the history of metabolic memory research, highlights its key features, discusses recent molecules involved in its mechanisms, and summarizes confirmed and potential therapeutic compounds. Additionally, we outline in vitro and in vivo models of metabolic memory. We hope this work will inform future research on metabolic memory's regulatory mechanisms and facilitate the development of effective therapeutic compounds to prevent diabetic complications.

Abstract The gut microbiota has been demonstrated to be correlated with the clinical phenotypes of diseases, including cancers. However, there are few studies on clinical subtyping based on the gut microbiota, especially in breast cancer (BC) patients. Here, using machine learning methods, we analysed the gut microbiota of BC, colorectal cancer (CRC), and gastric cancer (GC) patients to identify their shared metabolic pathways and the importance of these pathways in cancer development. Based on the gut microbiota-related metabolic pathways, human gene expression profile and patient prognosis, we established a novel BC subtyping system and identified a subtype called “challenging BC”. Tumours with this subtype have more genetic mutations and a more complex immune environment than those of other subtypes. A score index was proposed for in-depth analysis and showed a significant negative correlation with patient prognosis. Notably, activation of the TPK1-FOXP3-mediated Hedgehog signalling pathway and TPK1-ITGAE-mediated mTOR signalling pathway was linked to poor prognosis in “challenging BC” patients with high scores, as validated in a patient-derived xenograft (PDX) model. Furthermore, our subtyping system and score index are effective predictors of the response to current neoadjuvant therapy regimens, with the score index significantly negatively correlated with both treatment efficacy and the number of immune cells. Therefore, our findings provide valuable insights into predicting molecular characteristics and treatment responses in “challenging BC” patients.

Phenyllactic acid (PhLA), an important natural organic acid, can be used as a biopreservative, monomer of the novel polymeric material poly (phenyllactic acid), and raw material for various medicines. Herein, we achieved a high-level production of PhLA in Escherichia coli through the application of metabolic engineering and fermentation optimization strategies. First, the PhLA biosynthetic pathway was established in E. coli CGSC4510, and the phenylalanine biosynthetic pathway was disrupted to improve the carbon flux toward PhLA biosynthesis. Then, we increased the copy number of the key genes involved in the synthesis of the PhLA precursor phenylpyruvic acid. Concurrently, we disrupted the tryptophan biosynthetic pathway and enhanced the availability of phosphoenolpyruvate and erythrose 4-phosphate, thereby constructing the genetically engineered strain MG-P10. This strain was capable of producing 1.42 ± 0.02 g/L PhLA through shake flask fermentation. Furthermore, after optimizing the dissolved oxygen feedback feeding process and other conditions, the PhLA yield reached 52.89 ± 0.25 g/L in a 6 L fermenter. This study successfully utilized metabolic engineering and fermentation optimization strategies to lay a foundation for efficient PhLA production in E. coli as an industrial application.

Abstract Organic photovoltaics (OPVs) represent one of the most promising photovoltaic technologies owing to their high capacity to convert solar energy to electricity. With the continuous structure upgradation of photovoltaic materials, especially that of non‐fullerene acceptors (NFAs), the OPV field has witnessed rapid progress with power conversion efficiency (PCE) exceeding 19%. However, it remains challenging to overcome the intrinsic trade‐off between the photocurrent and photovoltage, restricting the further promotion of the OPV efficiency. In this regard, it is urgent to further tailor the structure of NFAs to broaden their absorption spectra while mitigating the energy loss of relevant devices concomitantly. Heteroatom substitution on the fused‐ring π‐core of NFAs is an efficient way to achieve this goal. In addition to improve the near‐infrared light harvest by strengthening the intramolecular charge transfer, it can also enhance the molecular stacking via forming multiple noncovalent interactions, which is favorable for reducing the energetic disorder. Therefore, in this review we focus on the design rules of NFAs, including the polymerized NFAs, of which the core moiety is substituted by various kinds of heteroatoms. We also afford a comprehensive understanding on the structure–property−performance relationships of these NFAs. Finally, we anticipate the challenges restricting the efficiency promotion and industrial utilization of OPV, and provide potential solutions based on the further heteroatom optimization on NFA core‐moiety.

In this paper, in view of a determinantal formula for higher order derivatives of the ratio of two differentiable functions, we expand the logarithm of the normalized tail of the power series expansion of the cosine function into a Maclaurin power series expansion whose coefficients are expressed in terms of specific Hessenberg determinants, present the decreasing property and concavity of the normalized tail of the Maclaurin power series expansion of the cosine function, deduce a new determinantal expression of the Bernoulli numbers, and verify the decreasing property for the ratio of the logarithms of the first two normalized tails of the Maclaurin power series expansion of the cosine function.

Abstract Background Patients with disorders of consciousness (DoC) exhibit varied revival outcomes based on different etiologies and diagnoses, the mechanisms of which remain largely unknown. The fluctuating clinical presentations in DoC pose challenges in accurately assessing consciousness levels and prognoses, often leading to misdiagnoses. There is an urgent need for a deeper understanding of the physiological changes in DoC and the development of objective diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers to improve treatment guidance. Methods To explore biomarkers and understand the biological processes, we conducted a comprehensive untargeted metabolomic analysis on serum samples from 48 patients with DoC. Patients were categorized based on etiology (TBI vs. non-TBI), CRS-R scores, and prognosis. Advanced analytical techniques, including PCA and OPLS-DA models, were employed to identify differential metabolites. Results Our analysis revealed a distinct separation in metabolomic profiles among the different groups. The primary differential metabolites distinguishing patients with varying etiologies were predominantly phospholipids, with a notable decrease in glycerophospholipids observed in the TBI group. Patients with higher CRS-R scores exhibited a pattern of impaired carbohydrate metabolism coupled with enhanced lipid metabolism. Notably, serum concentrations of both LysoPE and PE were reduced in patients with improved outcomes, suggesting their potential as prognostic biomarkers. Conclusions Our study underscores the critical role of phospholipid metabolism in the brain’s metabolic alterations in patients with DoC. It identifies key biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis, offering insights that could lead to novel therapeutic targets. These findings highlight the value of metabolomic profiling in understanding and potentially treating DoC.

Abstract Background To propose a community-embedded follow-up management model to provide health services for elderly patients with osteoporosis who live alone. Methods Researchers randomly selected 396 people with osteoporosis living alone from five communities in Nantong, China, for the study. These participants were randomly assigned to control and intervention groups. Twenty-four community physicians in five communities provided professional support based on a community-embedded follow-up management model. Participants completed quantitative questionnaires at baseline and after the 6-month follow-up intervention, and some participants underwent semi-structured face-to-face interviews. The primary outcome is the effectiveness of the community-embedded follow-up management model in improving the quality of life of elderly patients with osteoporosis living alone. Based on an objective quantitative assessment, the qualitative study explains and adds essential components of this community-based follow-up management model. Abstract Dielectric constant of non-fullerene acceptors plays a critical role in organic solar cells in terms of exciton dissociation and charge recombination. Current acceptors feature a dielectric constant of 3-4, correlating to relatively high recombination loss. We demonstrate that selenium substitution on acceptor central core can effectively modify molecule dielectric constant. The corresponding blend film presents faster hole-transfer of ~5 ps compared to the sulfur-based derivative (~10 ps). However, the blends with Se-acceptor also show faster charge recombination after 100 ps upon optical pumping, which is explained by the relatively disordered stacking of the Se-acceptor. Encouragingly, dispersing the Se-acceptor in an optimized organic solar cell system can interrupt the disordered aggregation while still retain high dielectric constant. With the improved dielectric constant and optimized fibril morphology, the ternary device exhibits an obvious reduction of non-radiative recombination to 0.221 eV and high efficiency of 19.0%. This work unveils heteroatom-substitution induced dielectric constant improvement, and the associated exciton dynamics and morphology manipulation, which finally contributes to better material/device design and improved device performance.

Conventional polymer damping materials are extensively utilized to mitigate vibration and noise in various fields, yet suffer from the drawback of a narrow effective damping temperature range. Herein, we innovatively synthesized an asymmetrically structured chain extender (AIS) with double disulfide bonds that provided polyurethane elastomer (PUE) with ultra-high energy dissipation over a wide temperature range, which was unattainable by conventional chain extenders. This was achieved by enhancing the bond exchange rate of dynamic disulfide bonds in the PUE. Specifically, the asymmetric structure of AIS was strategically designed to disrupt the regularity of the hard segments of the PUE, enabling the disulfide bonds to break and reorganize efficiently, thus depleting mechanical energy. The results demonstrated that the effective damping temperature range (Tan δ > 0.3) of the PUE cured by AIS can reach 130 °C (−15 °C–115 °C), which is 210 % higher than that of the matrix, and a stable damping plateau was observed in the region from room temperature to high temperature. Moreover, the introduction of AIS significantly enhanced the mechanical properties of the PUE. This study encourages further investigation and application of disulfide bonds in the field of damping.

Abstract Background Cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) is a long-term complication of cesarean section characterized by the localization of a subsequent gestational sac within the scar area or niche developed as a result of a previous cesarean section. Its incidence has increased substantially because of the high global cesarean section rate in recent decades. Several surgical and drug treatments exist for this condition; however, there is currently no optimal treatment. This study compared the effectiveness of direct hysteroscopic removal of the gestational tissue and hysteroscopy combined with vacuum suction for the treatment of CSP. Methods From 2017 to 2023, 521 patients were diagnosed with CSP at our hospital. Of these patients, 45 underwent hysteroscopy. Among them, 28 underwent direct hysteroscopic removal (hysteroscopic removal group) and 17 underwent hysteroscopy combined with vacuum suction (hysteroscopic suction group). The clinical characteristics and outcomes of the hysteroscopic removal group and hysteroscopic suction group were analyzed. Results Among the 45 patients, the amount of bleeding and hospitalization cost were significantly higher in the hysteroscopic removal group than in the hysteroscopic suction group (33.8 mL vs. 9.9 mL, P

The limited accuracy of detecting small objects with current AI algorithm is becoming prominent under background of security check using low-resolved terahertz images. To solve this problem, a modified model based on YOLOv8 architecture – YOLOv8-SAB is built to achieve satisfactory detection of suspicious small objects. Specifically, the model integrates Shuffle attention mechanism into YOLOv8, capturing channel dependence and spatial pixel relationship through Channel Shuffle operation and attention mechanism, thus improving the detection effect of small objects. In addition, BiFPN (Bi-directional Feature Pyramid Network) is used in feature fusion to overcome low resolution of terahertz images, and employ SIoU (SCYLLA IoU) as a friendly optimization object. Experimental results indicate that the inference speed of YOLOv8-SAB reaches 1.7ms to meet the fast detection requirement in real task. YOLOv8-SAB not only shows great potential in small object detection, but also has excellent detection ability for large objects. According to the self-made data set, mAP0.5 and mAP0.5-0.95 for small objects reach 0.93 and 0.716, respectively. As a comparison, mAP0.5 and MAP0.5-0.95 for large objects reach 0.98 and 0.84, respectively. This method plays an important role in the designing and deployment of intelligent real-time terahertz object detection system for security check.

Autotrophic denitrification, recognized as a biological denitrification method, has garnered increasing interest in the field of ecological water environment denitrification technology. This study focuses on the utilization of the sulfur autotrophic denitrification process for the deep denitrification treatment of wastewater. Furthermore, it investigates the impact of phosphorus on nitrogen removal efficiency and bacterial community structure of sulfur autotrophic denitrification. In the experiment, a column containing an autotrophic denitrification filter with a carbon-sulfur filler was constructed. This study aimed to examine the impact of phosphorus on the initiation and denitrification efficiency of the autotrophic denitrification filter column. High-throughput sequencing was used to examine alterations in the structure of the bacterial community. The experimental findings indicated that the absence of phosphorus in the influent considerably extended the initiation period of the autotrophic denitrification filter column. The average Total Inorganic Nitrogen (TIN) removal rate was determined to be 80.26%, while the effluent exhibited an accumulation concentration of NO2−-N ranging from 7 to 11 mg/L. After the addition of phosphate, the removal rate of NO3−-N in the autotrophic denitrification process increased to more than 97%, with no2−-N accumulation. As the influent phosphorus concentration increased, the ability of the sulfur autotrophic denitrification filter column to resist hydraulic impact load improved. At a NO3−-N concentration of 30 mg/L and Hydraulic Retention Time (HRT) = 2 h, the mean NO3−-N removal rate increased from 73.22% to 81.71%. The concentration of phosphorus affected the quantity and variety of primary bacteria in the sulfur autotrophic denitrification system, as their domination changed from Pseudomonas to Ferritrophicum and Thiobacillus, and from a mixed culture to complete autotrophy.

Abstract Background Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a T-cell-mediated autoimmune liver disease that can lead to liver injury and has a poor long-term prognosis. Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) have immunosuppressive effects and can treat AIH. CD4+ T cells express the unique inhibitory Fcγ receptor (FcγRIIB), which is the only receptor for the immunosuppressive factor soluble fibrinogen-like protein 2 (sFgl2). This study aimed to examine the therapeutic effect of sFgl2 gene-modified MSCs (sFgl2-MSCs) on AIH. Methods MSCs were obtained from the inguinal fat of mice and cocultured with CD4+ T cells sorted from mouse spleens. FcγRIIB expression on CD4+ T cells was determined by flow cytometry. sFgl2 expression in MSCs transfected with lentiviral vectors carrying the Fgl2 gene and a green fluorescent protein-encoding sequence was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The percentages of Th1 cells Th17 cells and regulatory T cells (Tregs) were determined by flow cytometry And the levels of p-SHP2 and p-SMAD2/3 were detected by Western blotting after the cells were cocultured with MSCs for 72 h. After locating MSCs by in vivo imaging Con A-induced experimental AIH mice were randomly divided into 4 groups and administered different treatments. After 24 h histopathological scores liver function and cytokine levels were examined and the proportions of CD4+ T cells CD8+ T cells Tregs Th17 cells and Th1 cells in the spleen and liver were determined by flow cytometry. In addition immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the liver infiltration of T-bet-, Foxp3- and RORγ-positive cells. Results FcγRIIB expression on CD4+ T cells was upregulated after coculture with MSCs. After coculture with sFgl2-MSCs, the proportion of Tregs among CD4+ T cells increased, the proportion of Th17 and Th1 cells decreased, and the levels of p-SHP2 and p-SMAD2/3 increased. In vivo, sFgl2-MSCs significantly improved liver function, decreased liver necrosis area, decreased tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-6 expression, increased IL-10 expression, reduced liver infiltration of CD4+ T and CD8+ T cells, increased the proportion of Tregs and reduced the proportions of Th17 and Th1 cells in mice. Conclusion By promoting Tregs differentiation and inhibiting Th17 and Th1 cell differentiation, sFgl2 gene-modified MSCs have a more powerful therapeutic effect on Con A-induced experimental AIH and may represent a strategy for the clinical treatment of AIH.

Germplasm resource innovation is a crucial factor for cultivar development, particularly within the context of hybrid rice breeding based on the three-line system. Quan 9311A, a cytoplasmic male sterile (CMS) line, has been successfully cultivated using rice restoration materials and extensively employed as a female parent in hybrid breeding program in China. This line was developed by crossing the CMS line Zhong 9A with a two-line restorer line 93-11, with the intention of eliminating the restoring ability of 93-11 while retaining the sterility gene WA352c from Zhong 9A. Quan 9311A effectively amalgamates the most favorable agronomic traits from both parental lines. In this study, the relationship between phenotypic characteristics and the known functional genes of Quan 9311A were analyzed using the rice genome navigation technology based on whole-genome sequencing. The findings revealed that Quan 9311A harbors multiple superior alleles from both 93-11 and Zhong 9A, providing exceptional agronomic traits that are unavailable in earlier CMS lines. Despite the removal of the fertility restorer gene Rf3 from 93-11, numerous chromosomal segments from 93-11 persist in the Quan 9311A genome. Furthermore, the hybrid rice Quanyousimiao (QYSM) and the restorer line Wushansimiao (WSSM) were used as examples to illustrate the important role of Quan 9311A as the female parent in heterosis. It was found that QYSM carries a great number of superior alleles, which accounts for its high grain yield and wide adaptability. These insights not only advanced the utilization of hybrid rice pairing groups but also provided guidance for future breeding endeavors. The study introduced innovative concepts to further integrate genomics with traditional breeding techniques. Ultimately, Quan 9311A signified a significant milestone in rice breeding technology, opening up novel avenues for hybrid rice development.

In this work, the author reviews the origination of normalized tails of the Maclaurin power series expansions of infinitely differentiable functions, presents that the ratio between two normalized tails of the Maclaurin power series expansion of the exponential function is decreasing on the positive axis, and proves that the normalized tail of the Maclaurin power series expansion of the exponential function is absolutely monotonic on the whole real axis.

In this paper, by means of the Faà di Bruno formula, with the help of explicit formulas for partial Bell polynomials at specific arguments of two specific sequences generated by derivatives at the origin of the inverse sine and inverse cosine functions, and by virtue of two combinatorial identities containing the Stirling numbers of the first kind, the author establishes power series expansions for real powers of the inverse cosine (sine) functions and the inverse hyperbolic cosine (sine) functions. By comparing different series expansions for the square of the inverse cosine function and for the positive integer power of the inverse sine function, the author not only finds infinite series representations of the circular constant π and its real powers, but also derives several combinatorial identities involving central binomial coefficients and the Stirling numbers of the first kind.

In the paper, (1) in view of a general formula for any derivative of the quotient of two differentiable functions, (2) with the aid of a monotonicity rule for the quotient of two power series, (3) in light of the logarithmic convexity of an elementary function involving the exponential function, (4) with the help of an integral representation for the tail of the power series expansion of the exponential function, and (5) on account of Čebyšev’s integral inequality, the authors (i) expand the logarithm of the normalized tail of the power series expansion of the exponential function into a power series whose coefficients are expressed in terms of specific Hessenberg determinants whose elements are quotients of combinatorial numbers, (ii) prove the logarithmic convexity of the normalized tail of the power series expansion of the exponential function, (iii) derive a new determinantal expression of the Bernoulli numbers, deduce a determinantal expression for Howard’s numbers, (iv) confirm the increasing monotonicity of a function related to the logarithm of the normalized tail of the power series expansion of the exponential function, (v) present an inequality among three power series whose coefficients are reciprocals of combinatorial numbers, and (vi) generalize the logarithmic convexity of an extensively applied function involving the exponential function.

Abstract Background Important roles of INHBB in various malignancies are increasingly identified. The underlying mechanisms in gastric cancer (GC) microenvironment are still greatly unexplored. Methods The clinical significance of INHBB and the correlation between INHBB and p-p65 in GC were assessed through analyzing publicly available databases and human paraffin embedded GC tissues. The biological crosstalk of INHBB between GC cells and fibroblasts was explored both in vitro and in vivo. RNA-seq analyses were performed to determine the mechanisms which regulating fibroblasts reprogramming. Luciferase reporter assay and chromatin immunoprecipitation (CHIP) assay were used to verify the binding relationship of p65 and INHBB in GC cells. Results Our study showed that INHBB level was significantly higher in GC, and that increased INHBB was associated with poor survival. INHBB positively regulates the proliferation, migration, and invasion of GC cells in vitro. Also, activin B promotes the occurrence of GC by reprogramming fibroblasts into cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs). The high expression of INHBB in GC cells activates the NF-κB pathway of normal gastric fibroblasts by secreting activin B, and promotes fibroblasts proliferation, migration, and invasion. In addition, activin B activates NF-κB pathway by controlling TRAF6 autoubiquitination to induce TAK1 phosphorylation in fibroblasts. Fibroblasts activated by activin B can induce the activation of p65 phosphorylation of GC cells by releasing pro-inflammatory factors IL-1β. p65 can directly bind to the INHBB promoter and increase the INHBB transcription of GC cells, thus establishing a positive regulatory feedback loop to promote the progression of GC. Conclusions GC cells p65/INHBB/activin B and fibroblasts p65/IL-1β signal loop led to the formation of a whole tumor-promoting inflammatory microenvironment, which might be a promising therapeutic target for GC.

The environment’s psychological impacts on humans have been long studied, but many questions remain unanswered. We conducted a micro-scale study to examine the relationships among the objective characteristics of urban environmental settings, people’s subjective perception of such settings, and the related psychological responses. We employed a geo-enabled survey tool to gather data on individuals’ perceptions of the immediate environment within their daily activity space. The psychological processes assessed included emotional and affective states such as perceived stress and happiness. The data points were mapped on a high-resolution aerial image, which was classified to derive quantitative properties to examine the dose-response relationship between environmental exposure and psychological responses. Our results showed negative correlations between the momentary stress level and the amount of environmental elements such as water, trees, and grass. Positive correlations were detected between stress level and the amount of parking lot and barren land, as well as the distance to buildings. In terms of perceived happiness, positive environmental factors included water, trees, and artificial surfaces, with all other elements having negative correlations. Most of the correlations examined were not strong correlations. This could be due to the significant differences in how individuals respond to environmental stimuli.

Feature detection and matching is the key technique for remote sensing image processing and related applications. In this paper, a PDE-constrained optimization model is proposed to determine the scale levels advantageous for feature detection. A variance estimation technique is introduced to treat the observation optical images polluted by additive zero-mean Gaussian noise and determine the parameter of a nonlinear scale space governed by the partial differential equation. Additive Operator Splitting is applied to efficiently solve the PDE constraint, and an iterative algorithm is proposed to approximate the optimal subset of the original scale level set. The selected levels are distributed more uniformly in the total variation sense and helpful for generating more accurate and robust feature points. The experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve about a 30% improvement in the number of correct matches with only a small increase in time cost.

Abstract To investigate the misclassification rates of Asian‐American patients with low‐risk prostate cancer (PCa). Patients diagnosed with low‐risk PCa treated with radical prostatectomy between 2010 and 2015 in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database were included in this study. Then, basic characteristics and pathological outcomes of the enrolled patients were retrospectively extracted. We compared the rates of upgrading and/or upstaging between Asian‐American patients and White/Black patients. Moreover, temporal trend analyses were performed to explore the changes in upgrading and upstaging rates in each race over time. Finally, logistic regression models were constructed to explore the role of Asian race in upgrading and upstaging and to screen out potential risk factors for predicting upgrading and upstaging in Asian‐American patients. Abstract Background Cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) refers to the implantation and growth of the gestational sac at a uterine scarring site due to a previous cesarean section. The effects of CSP on subsequent fertility have emerged as a clinical issue of importance in gynecology and obstetrics in China owing to the increasing rate of cesarean section over the past 30 years in combination with the abolition of the national family planning policy, allowing for subsequent pregnancies. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the effects of CSP treatment on subsequent fertility and pregnancy outcomes. Methods The study consecutively enrolled 499 women treated for CSP at Taizhou Hospital between January 2009 and December 2018. The study outcomes were the rate of secondary infertility and pregnancy outcomes. Clinical information was collected at the time of admission for CSP treatment. Information on subsequent fertility and pregnancy outcomes was collected via telephonic follow-up. Results Among the 499 women who met the inclusion criteria for CSP, 48 were lost to follow-up. Most women (74.9%, 338/451) did not express the desire for a subsequent pregnancy after CSP treatment. Among the 113 women who initially desired a subsequent pregnancy, 62 finally abandoned fertility plans. Among the 51 women who pursued pregnancy, 48 pregnancies were recorded in 43 women, infertility secondary to CSP treatment was identified in 15.7% (8/51) of women, and 60.8% (31/51) of women achieved full-term pregnancy, with placenta accreta spectrum identified in two women, one requiring a hysterectomy during cesarean section due to massive bleeding. Among the 16 women treated with uterine artery embolization combined with uterine aspiration and 18 women treated by ultrasound-guided local lauromacrogol injection combined with uterine aspiration, a successful full-term pregnancy rate of 68.8% (11/16) and 88.9% (16/18), respectively, was achieved. There were five cases of recurrent CSP among all 76 pregnancies (6.6%). Conclusion Over a long-term follow-up of women after CSP treatment, a high successful fertility rate was identified, with also an increased CSP recurrence rate. Uterine artery embolization combined with uterine aspiration and ultrasound-guided local lauromacrogol injection combined with uterine aspiration showed high rates of successful post-treatment fertility and pregnancy.

Introduction: Global watershed sustainable development has experienced world-wide threats from continuing anthropogenic stressors, and the need to deepen and broaden research encompassing the intersection in global environmental change as well as environmentally oriented watershed sustainable development (EOWSD) has been noticed. However, there is not yet a widely recognized cognition on the applicability and scope of various EOWSD issues, and the zoning of global EOWSD issues is remains uncertain despite it is crucial for achieving global watershed sustainable development.Methods: This research was conducted to both clarify the zoning and evolution of various EOWSD issues around the world, and differentiate the relative impacts on EOWSD of climate change and human activities. The global EOWSD issues were summarized from 62 watersheds around the world as 6 categories associated with different aspects of global watershed sustainability. And the partition method, in which the spatial and temporal variations of global summer Normalized Difference Vegetation Index in summer were examined and the quantitative climate classification were conducted, indicates a clear and definite relationship between the zoning of EOWSD issues and 8 natural geographical zones. Meanwhile, we selected 34 watersheds either or both are the 100 most populous river basins and the 100 largest (by area) river basins in the world from the 62 watersheds to assess relative effects of human impact on watershed sustainability.Results: Results from the numerical analyses of baseline water stress (BWS) values, which was used to provide a robust measure of human impact and evaluate the impact and relative importance of human-induced changes on watershed sustainability, indicate that the human activities do not affect the zoning of EOWSD issues at global scale while the environmental change induced by water engineering development should be certain to affect that on the long-term.Discussion: Our findings present a new perspective to illustrate the relationship among global EOWSD, environmental change and human impacts, and will also provide a scientific basis on setting future emphasizes of global watershed sustainable development and furthering the related disciplines.

During the construction of precast concrete (PC) structures, concrete composite slabs are commonly used, employing PC planks with lattice girders as permanent formwork to enhance assembly efficiency while ensuring structural performance. However, traditional PC planks suffer from heavy weight and susceptibility to cracking, adversely affecting construction efficiency and quality. This paper proposes the incorporation of ultra-lightweight engineered cementitious composite (ULECC) into PC planks. The research aims to investigate the flexural behavior of precast ULECC planks with lattice girders during the construction stage. Four-point bending tests were conducted to study the effects of lattice girders and ULECC layer. The introduction of ULECC reduced the self-weight of precast planks by 24%, while resulting in a decrease in strength and stiffness due to ULECC's lower elastic modulus. Remarkably, precast ULECC planks exhibited excellent crack width control. Even at a deflection-span ratio of approximately 4%, precast ULECC planks were capable of maintaining crack widths below 0.2 mm. The combination of ULECC and lattice girders significantly improved the structural performance of precast ULECC planks, allowing them to meet construction requirements without requiring temporary support.

Lightweight engineered cementitious composites (LWECC) are prized for their exceptional tensile performance, durability, and low self-weight. However, the elevated cement usage in ECC results in a substantial carbon footprint, thus placing significant ecological pressures. This study employed calcium sulfoaluminate-activated supersulfated cement (CSA-SSC) to develop the ultra-low carbon LWECC. The influence of silica fume, lightweight filler, PE fiber contents and water-to-binder ratio on the mechanical characteristics of ULL-ECC were investigated, in terms of density, tensile and compressive properties. The fracture toughness test, single-crack tensile test, mercury intrusion porosimeter (MIP), scanning electronic microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis were conducted to establish a connection between macro behavior and micro-scale performance. The results reveal ULL-ECC's remarkable tensile behavior, demonstrating a tensile strength of 7.1 MPa and an impressive strain capacity of 12.6%, with compressive strengths ranging from 50.3 MPa to 65.1 MPa. The carbon footprint of ULL-ECC accounts to only 35% of conventional concrete and 22% of traditional ECC. Through the synergistic utilization of eco-friendly FAC, CSA-SSC, and high-strength PE fiber, ULL-ECC not only showcases exceptional mechanical properties but also embodies a substantial improvement in sustainability, coupled with a reduction in self-weight.

Objective To explore the mediating effect of self-esteem on sense of coherence and social support in patients with head and face burns. Methods A convenient sampling method was used to select 112 patients with head and face burns from November 2017 to August 2021 in the Burn Injury Department of a grade-A hospital in Suzhou. General data questionnaire, Chinese version of Sense of Coherence 13-item scale (SOC-13), Self-Liking/Self-Competence Scale-Revised (SLCS-R) and Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS) were used to investigate them, and structural equation model was used to test the mediating effect. Objective To investigate the effect of feedforward control combined with tracking method on reducing the incidence of blockage of intravenous indwelling needle in perioperative patients. Totally 852 patients who received intravenous infusion therapy were recruited and divided into two groups according to the odd-even number of admission: 424 patients with odd number in the control group and 428 patients with even number in the observation group. The control group received routine nursing management and catheter maintenance, the observation group adopted feedforward control combined with tracking method. The incidence of blockage of intravenous indwelling needle, indwelling time and incidence of redness and swollen at puncture site were compared between two groups. Results The indwelling time of intravenous indwelling needle in the observation group was higher than that of control group (P＜0. 01). A lower incidence of blockage of intravenous indwelling needle and lower incidence of redness and swollen at puncture site were reported in the observation group than that in the control group, respectively(P＜0. 01). Conclusion The feedforward control combined with tracking method is potentially effective to reduce the incidence of blockage of intravenous indwelling needle, prolong the indwelling time, reduce the pain at puncture site and improve the comfort level of patients during the treatment. In the paper, the authors introduce two notions, the normalized remainders, or say, the normalized tails, of the Maclaurin power series expansions of the sine and cosine functions, derive two integral representations of the normalized tails, prove the nonnegativity, positivity, decreasing property, and concavity of the normalized tails, compute several special values of the Young function, the Lommel function, and a generalized hypergeometric function, recover two inequalities for the tails of the Maclaurin power series expansions of the sine and cosine functions, propose three open problems about the nonnegativity, positivity, decreasing property, and concavity of a newly introduced function which is a generalization of the normalized tails of the Maclaurin power series expansions of the sine and cosine functions. These results are related to the Riemann–Liouville fractional integrals.

Abstract Introduction Medical management of disorders of consciousness (DoC) is a growing issue imposing a major burden on families and societies. Recovery rates vary widely among patients with DoC, and recovery predictions strongly influence decisions on medical care. However, the specific mechanisms underlying different etiologies, consciousness levels, and prognoses are still unclear. Methods We analyzed the comprehensive cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) metabolome through liquid chromatography‐mass spectrometry. Metabolomic analyses were used to identify the metabolic differences between patients with different etiologies, diagnoses, and prognoses. Results We found that the CSF levels of multiple acylcarnitines were lower in patients with traumatic DoC, suggesting mitochondrial function preservation in the CNS, which might contribute to the better consciousness outcomes of these patients. Metabolites related to glutamate and GABA metabolism were altered and showed a good ability to distinguish the patients in the minimally conscious state and the vegetative state. Moreover, we identified 8 phospholipids as potential biomarkers to predict the recovery of consciousness. Conclusions Our findings shed light on the differences in physiological activities underlying DoC with different etiologies and identified some potential biomarkers used for DoC diagnosis and prognosis.

Abstract Objective Gastric cancer is one of the most common and deadly types of cancer. The molecular mechanism of gastric cancer progression remains unclear. Materials and methods Four hub genes were identified through GEO and TCGA database screening and analysis. Prognostic analysis revealed that COL5A2 was the most likely to affect the prognosis of gastric cancer among the four hub genes. The relationships between COL5A2 and clinical variables and immune cell infiltration were analyzed. Then, COL5A2 was analyzed for single-gene differences and related functional enrichment. Using the starBase database for prediction and analysis, miRNAs and pseudogenes/lncRNAs that might combine with COL5A2 were identified; thus, the ceRNA network was constructed. Finally, the network was verified by Cox analysis and qPCR, and a nomogram was constructed. Results First, we found that COL5A2, COL12A1, BGN and THBS2 were highly expressed in gastric cancer. COL5A2 had statistical significance in overall survival (OS), disease-specific survival (DSS), and progression-free interval (PFI) analysis. Immune infiltration analysis suggested that COL5A2 might influence the changes in the tumor immune microenvironment. The StarBase database was used to predict that 3 pseudogenes and 7 lncRNAs might inhibit the hsa-miR-200b-3p-COL5A2 axis in gastric cancer. The pseudogenes/lncRNA-hsa-miR-200b-3p-COL5A2 ceRNA network was identified and verified using Cox regression analysis and PCR. Finally, we constructed a nomogram. Conclusions We elucidated the regulatory role of the pseudogenes/lncRNA-hsa-miR-200b-3p-COL5A2 network in gastric cancer progression and constructed a nomogram. These studies may provide effective treatments and potential prognostic biomarkers for gastric cancer.

Abstract Background and aims Difficult endotracheal intubation is one of the most challenging operations in anesthesia. How to better predict difficult airway and make corresponding preparations to reduce the occurrence of accidents is a difficult task faced by anesthesiologists every day. This study decide to evaluate the value of the Upper Lip Bite Test (ULBT) and the Modified Mallampati Test (MMT) in predicting difficult intubation under direct laryngoscopy and find out the most intuitive and simple method to predict difficult intubation under direct laryngoscopy in apparently normal patients. Patients and methods This descriptive-analytical study was performed on 450 patients for elective surgery under general anesthesia requiring endotracheal intubation. The ULBT and MMT grading were evaluated preoperatively and Cormack and Lehane’s (CL) classification was recorded on the day of surgery during intubation under direct laryngoscopy. The accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), likelihood ratio (LR), Youden index and area under ROC curve of ULBT and MMT respectively and in combination were calculated and compared. And the consistency between the total scores of ULBT and MMT combined in different ways and CL grading was counted. Results Of the 450 patients, 69 (15.3%) were classified as difficult cases of direct laryngoscopy. The accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, PPV and NPV of ULBT were 81.33, 11.59, 93.96, 25.81, 85.44%; and those the corresponding values for MMT were 66.22, 62.32, 69.29, 26.88 and 91.03%. A combination of ULBT and MMT did not improve the sensitivity in the sample tested. The combined total scores of ULBT and MMT in both ways were less consistent with CL grading in predicting difficult intubation under direct laryngoscopy. Conclusion Based on findings of current study, we conclude that ULBT and MMT for difficult intubation have only poor to moderate discriminative power when used alone. The combination of the two tests in fractional form is also not a good predictor of difficult intubation under direct laryngoscopy. Abstract To explore the incidence rate (IR), clinicopathological characteristics, and prognostic factors of bladder squamous cell carcinoma (BSCC) based on surveillance, epidemiology, and end results (SEER) database. We extracted the IRs of BSCC from 1975 to 2016 in the SEER database, and plotted the trending curves. Then, the clinicopathological characteristics of BSCC patients diagnosed from 2010 to 2015 were selected and compared with those of patients with urothelial carcinoma (UC) in the same period. Furthermore, differences in overall survival (OS) and cancer‐specific survival (CSS) of BSCC and UC patients were compared. Finally, COX regression models were constructed to explore the risk factors affecting OS and CSS in BSCC patients. The IR of BSCC showed a downward trend from 1975 to 2000 and stabilized at about 0.3/100 000 after 2000. BSCC patients had a later stage at diagnosis and worse prognosis when compared with those with UC. Older age, higher TNM stage, no surgical treatment, and unmarried status were significantly related to worse prognosis of BSCC patients. This study explored the IR trends, clinicopathological characteristics, and prognostic factors of BSCC. In the future, prospective, large sample, and well‐designed clinical studies are needed to verify our results.

Abstract RNA modification includes four main types, N6‐methyladenosine, N1‐methyladenosine, alternative polyadenylation (APA), and adenosine‐to‐inosine (A‐to‐I) RNA editing, involving 41 enzymes that serve as “writers”, “readers” and “erasers”. By collecting RNA modifying enzyme information in 1759 hepatobiliary malignancy (HBM) samples from 11 datasets, an RNA modification HBM Score (RH_score) was established based on unsupervised cluster analysis of RNA modification‐associated differentially expressed genes (DEGs). We identified the imbalanced expression of 41 RNA modification enzymes in HBM, which was scientifically categorized into two groups: RH_Score high and RH_Score low. A high RH_Score was associated with a worse prognosis and more immature immune cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME), while a low RH_Score was associated with a better prognosis and more mature immune cells in the TME. Further analysis using single‐cell databases showed that the high RH_Score was immune exhaustion in the TME. RH_Score was involved in transcriptional regulation and post‐transcriptional events in HBM. Additionally, resistant and sensitive drugs were selected based on RNA modification, and anti‐PD‐L1 therapy responded better with low RH_Score. In conclusion, our study comprehensively analyzes RNA modification in HBM, which induces TME changes and transcriptional and posttranscriptional events, implying potential guiding significance in prognosis prediction and treatment options.

The urban heat island effect is a typical feature of urban climates. Problems associated with urban heat islands include an increase in energy consumption and health issues resulting from a reduction in thermal comfort. The method of constructing a heat island network, which helps identify and analyze urban heat island phenomena, has become a focus of research in areas such as the effect of urban greening on the heat island effect. Considering this, Landsat remote sensing images from Tiantai County, Taizhou City, were used to identify and analyze the distribution characteristics of heat island patches in Tiantai County as a whole, using morphological spatial pattern analysis (MSPA) combined with the model of minimum cumulative resistance (MCR). Simultaneously, based on the local climate zones theory, the resistance value was calculated to construct the Tiantai County heat island network, and the following conclusions were formed after analyzing the results: (1) The final constructed heat island network consists of 20 important heat island sources, 60 important heat island corridors, and 130 general heat island corridors. (2) The important heat-island-source land matrix consists primarily of an impermeable surface, bare soil, and sand. Important heat island corridors are mostly found in the impermeable surface area. (3) According to calculations, dense trees have a resistance value of 100. Water bodies and scattered trees have resistance values of 10 and 5, respectively. They all have a blocking effect on the heat island.

Abstract Background Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are implicated in the development of multiple cancers. In our previous study, we demonstrated that HDAC1/4-mediated silencing of microRNA-200b (miR-200b) enhances docetaxel (DTX)-resistance of human lung adenocarcinoma (LAD) cells. Methods and results Herein, we probed the function of LncRNA MARCKSL1–2 (MARCKSL1-transcript variant 2, NR_052852.1) in DTX resistance of LAD cells. It was found that MARCKSL1–2 expression was markedly reduced in DTX-resistant LAD cells. Through gain- or loss- of function assays, colony formation assay, EdU assay, TUNEL assay, and flow cytometry analysis, we found that MARCKSL1–2 suppressed the growth and DTX resistance of both parental and DTX-resistant LAD cells. Moreover, we found that MARCKSL1–2 functioned in LAD through increasing miR-200b expression and repressing HDAC1. Mechanistically, MARCKSL1–2 recruited the suppressor of zeste 12 (SUZ12) to the promoter of histone deacetylase 1 (HDAC1) to strengthen histone H3 lysine 27 trimethylation (H3K27me3) of HDAC1 promoter, thereby reducing HDAC1 expression. MARCKSL1–2 up-regulated miR-200b by blocking the suppressive effect of HDAC1 on the histone acetylation modification at miR-200b promoter. Furthermore, in vivo analysis using mouse xenograft tumor model supported that overexpression of MARCKSL1–2 attenuated the DTX resistance in LAD tumors. Conclusions We confirmed that MARCKSL1–2 alleviated DTX resistance in LAD cells by abolishing the inhibitory effect of HDAC1 on miR-200b via the recruitment of SUZ12. MARCKSL1–2 could be a promising target to improve the chemotherapy of LAD. Graphical abstract
