Kaon physics is at a turning point -- while the rare-kaon experiments NA62 and KOTO are in full swing, the end of their lifetime is approaching and the future experimental landscape needs to be defined. With HIKE, KOTO-II and LHCb-Phase-II on the table and under scrutiny, it is a very good moment in time to take stock and contemplate about the opportunities these experiments and theoretical developments provide for particle physics in the coming decade and beyond. The CKM unitarity precision test of the Standard Model requires a systematic treatment of electromagnetic and strong corrections for semi-leptonic decays. Electromagnetic corrections require the renormalization of a semileptonic four-fermion operator. In this work we calculate the $\mathcal{O}(\alpha\alpha_s)$ perturbative scheme conversion between the $\bar{\rm MS}$ scheme and several momentum-space subtraction schemes, which can also be implemented on the lattice. We consider schemes defined by MOM and SMOM kinematics and emphasize the importance of the choice of projector for each scheme. The conventional projector, that has been used in the literature for MOM kinematics, generates QCD corrections to the conversion factor that do not vanish for $\alpha=0$ and which generate an artificial dependence on the lattice matching scale that would only disappear after summing all orders of perturbation theory. This can be traced to the violation of a Ward identity that holds in tha $\alpha =0$ limit. We show how to remedy this by judicious choices of projector, and prove that the Wilson coefficients in those schemes are free from pure QCD contributions. The resulting Wilson coefficients (and operator matrix elements) have greatly reduced scale dependence. Our choice of the $\bar{\rm MS}$ scheme over the traditional $W$-mass scheme is motivated by the fact that, besides being more tractable at higher orders, unlike the latter it allows for a transparent separation of scales. We exploit this to obtain renormalization-group-improved leading-log and next-to-leading-log strong corrections to the electromagnetic contributions and study the (QED-induced) dependence on the lattice matching scale., Comment: 1+22 pages

We compute the renormalisation factors of the quark mass and wave function using IMOM (Interpolating MOMenta) schemes. The framework is the Rome-Southampton non-renormalisation method, but the momentum transfer in the quark bilinears is not restricted to zero or to the symmetric point. We study the scale dependence, infrared contamination and lattice artefacts for different values of this momentum transfer and for two different kinds of projectors. We study the direct-detection rate for axial-vectorial dark matter scattering off nuclei in an $\mathrm{SU}(2)\times \mathrm{U}(1)$ invariant effective theory and compare it against the LHC reach. Current constraints from direct detection experiments are already bounding the mediator mass to be well into the TeV range for WIMP-like scenarios. This motivates a consistent and systematic exploration of the parameter space to map out possible regions where the rates could be suppressed. We do indeed find such regions and proceed to construct consistent UV models that generate the relevant effective theory. We then discuss the corresponding constraints from both collider and direct-detection experiments on the same parameter space. We find a benchmark scenario, where even for future XENONnT experiment, LHC constraints will have a greater sensitivity to the mediator mass., Comment: 21 pages, 5 figures

Hadronic matrix elements evaluated on the lattice can be converted to a continuum scheme such as $\MSbar$ using intermediate non-perturbative renormalisation schemes. Discretisation effects on the lattice and convergence of the continuum perturbation theory are both scheme dependent and we explore this dependence in the framework of the Rome-Southampton method for generalised kinematics. In particular, we implement several non-exceptional {\em interpolating} momentum schemes, where the momentum transfer is {\em not} restricted to the symmetric point defined in RI/SMOM. Using flavour non-singlet quark bilinears, we compute the renormalisation factors of the quark mass and wave function for $N_f=3$ flavours of dynamical quarks. We investigate the perturbative and non-perturbative scale-dependencies. Our numerical results are obtained from lattice simulations performed with Domain-Wall fermions, based on ensembles generated by RBC-UKQCD collaborations; we use two different lattice spacings $1/a \sim 1.79 $ and $2.38$ GeV. We also give the numerical values for the relevant anomalous dimensions and matching coefficients at next-to-next-to-leading order.
