Poyang Lake is the largest freshwater lake in China, which boasts unique hydrological conditions and rich biodiversity. In this study, metagenomics technology was used to sequence the microbial genome of soil samples S1 (sedimentary), S2 (semi-submerged), and S3 (arid) with different water content from the Poyang Lake wetland; the results indicate that the three samples have different physicochemical characteristics and their microbial community structure and functional gene distribution are also different, resulting in separate ecological functions. The abundance of typical ANME archaea Candidatus Menthanoperedens and the high abundance of mcrA in S1 mutually demonstrate prominent roles in the methane anaerobic oxidation pathway during the methane cycle. In S2, the advantageous bacterial genus Nitrospira with ammonia oxidation function is validated by a large number of nitrification functional genes (amoA, hao, nxrA), manifesting in that it plays a monumental role in nitrification in the nitrogen cycle. In S3, the dominant bacterial genus Nocardioides confirms a multitude of antibiotic resistance genes, indicating their crucial role in resistance and their emphatic research value for microbial resistance issues. The results above have preliminarily proved the role of soil microbial communities as indicators predicting wetland ecological functions, which will help to better develop plans for restoring ecological balance and addressing climate change.

Abstract The implementation of air pollution reduction measures has significantly reduced the concentration of atmospheric fine particles (PM2.5) in Beijing, among which the “coal-to-gas” conversion measures may play a crucial role. However, the effect of this conversion measure on brown carbon (BrC) is not well known. Here, the chemical composition of BrC in humic-like fraction (HULIS-BrC) and water-insoluble fraction (WI-BrC) were characterized for ambient PM2.5 samples collected in Beijing before and after the “coal-to-gas” conversion measure. After the conversion measure, the number of HULIS-BrC compounds increased by ~14%, while the number of WI-BrC compounds decreased by ~8%. The intensity of over 90% of HULIS-BrC compounds also increased after the conversion measure, and correspondingly the O/C ratios of CHO and CHON compounds in HULIS-BrC fraction generally increased with the increase of intensity ratios after/before the conversion measure, indicating that there were more water-soluble highly oxygenated BrC compounds after “coal-to-gas” conversion measure. On the contrary, the intensity of more than 80% of WI-BrC compounds decreased after the conversion measure, and the O/C ratios of CHO and CHON compounds in WI-BrC fraction generally decreased with the decrease of intensity ratios after/before the conversion measure, indicating that after the “coal-to-gas” conversion measure the water-insoluble low oxygenated BrC compounds decreased. This work sheds light on the differences in the chemical composition of BrC between before and after the “coal-to-gas” conversion measure and suggests that future studies on the residential coal combustion BrC and secondary BrC deserve further exploration.

Cinnamomum camphora chvar. Borneol is an important commercial tree species in China as its essential oil contains abundant endo-borneol. Hydrodistillation (HD) is a mainstream technique for the separation of C. camphora chvar. Borneol essential oil. The shortcomings of HD include low extraction efficiency, high energy consumption, and long extraction time, emphasizing the need for the application of a fast and efficient procedure for recovering C. camphora chvar. Borneol essential oil. To determine the optimal conditions for the effective extraction, solvent-free microwave-assisted extraction (SFME) was used in conjunction with the Box-Behnken response surface design. The optimal conditions resulted in a maximum essential oil yield of 42.03 ± 1.56 mg/g. These results showed that SFME is an efficient, green, and economical method for obtaining essential oil with a higher proportion of endo-borneol compared to HD. Furthermore, C. camphora chvar. Borneol essential oil exhibited remarkable inhibitory activity against the five Fusarium spp. species that cause potato dry rot. The results could provide useful information regarding the comprehensive utilization of C. camphora chvar. Borneol essential oil as a new botanical pesticide in agriculture and food production.

Microbial reduction is an effective way to deal with hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] contamination in the environment, which can significantly mitigate the biotoxicity and migration of this pollutant. The present study investigated the influence of environmental factors on aqueous Cr(VI) removal by a newly isolated facultative anaerobic bacterium, Exiguobacterium sp. PY14, and revealed the reduction mechanism. This strain with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 400 mg/L showed the strongest Cr(VI) removal capacity at pH 8.0 because of its basophilic nature, which was obviously depressed by increasing the Cr(VI) initial concentration under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. In contrast, the removal rate constant for 50 mg/L of Cr(VI) under anaerobic conditions (1.82 × 10−2 h−1) was 3.3 times that under aerobic conditions. The co-existence of Fe(III) and Cu(II) significantly promoted the removal of Cr(VI), while Ag(I), Pb(II), Zn(II), and Cd(II) inhibited it. Electron-shuttling organics such as riboflavin, humic acid, and anthraquinone-2,6-disulfonate promoted the Cr(VI) removal to varying degrees, and the enhancement was more significant under anaerobic conditions. The removal of aqueous Cr(VI) by strain PY14 was demonstrated to be due to cytoplasmic rather than extracellular reduction by analyzing the contributions of different cell components, and the end products existed in the aqueous solution in the form of organo-Cr(III) complexes. Several possible genes involved in Cr(VI) metabolism, including chrR and chrA that encode well-known Chr family proteins responsible for chromate reduction and transport, respectively, were identified in the genome of PY14, which further clarified the Cr(VI) reduction pathway of this strain. The research progress in the influence of crucial environmental factors and biological reduction mechanisms will help promote the potential application of Exiguobacterium sp. PY14 with high adaptability to environmental stress in Cr(VI) removal in the actual environment.

Abstract Carbonaceous aerosol plays an important role in climate, but its sources and atmospheric processes are least understood in the Tibetan Plateau (TP), a remote yet climatically sensitive region. This study presents the first seasonal cycle of radiocarbon and stable isotope 13C of organic and elemental carbon (OC and EC) in the atmosphere of the northeastern TP. Large seasonal variations of EC and OC concentrations were explained by non‐fossil sources. Regardless of the season, fossil contribution to OC was strongly correlated with inverse OC concentrations. This allowed the separating a constant background source and a source responsible for OC variability that was mostly of non‐fossil origin. The 13C signature of OC shows that OC was highly atmospherically processed and thus less volatile than OC found near sources or in urban areas. The 13C‐depleted secondary sources contributed strongly to more volatile OC, whereas the 13C‐enriched less volatile OC suggests the influence of atmospheric aging.

The chemical and stable carbon isotopic composition of the organic aerosol particles (OA) emitted by a shuttle passenger ship between mainland Naples and island Capri in Italy were investigated. Various methylsiloxanes and derivatives were found in particulate ship emissions for the first time, as identified in the mass spectra of a thermal desorption – proton transfer reaction – mass spectrometer (TD-PTR-MS) based on the natural abundance of silicon isotopes. Large contributions of methylsiloxanes to OA (up to 59.3%) were found under inefficient combustion conditions, and considerably lower methylsiloxane emissions were observed under cruise conditions (1.2% of OA). Furthermore, the stable carbon isotopic composition can provide a fingerprint for methylsiloxanes, as they have low δ13C values in the range of −44.91‰ ± 4.29‰. The occurrence of methylsiloxanes was therefore further supported by low δ13C values of particulate organic carbon (OC), ranging from −34.7‰ to −39.4‰, when carbon fractions of methylsiloxanes in OC were high. The δ13C values of OC increased up to around −26.7‰ under cruise conditions, when carbon fractions of methylsiloxanes in OC were low. Overall, the δ13C value of OC decreased linearly with increasing carbon fraction of methylsiloxanes in OC, and the slope is consistent with a mixture of methylsiloxanes and fuel combustion products. The methylsiloxanes in ship emissions may come from engine lubricants.

Introduction: Stress-related gastric mucosal lesions (SGMLs) are the most common complication in critical care patients. Previous studies have demonstrated that herbal pair (HP), Polygonum hydropiper-Coptis chinensis (HP P-C) has the anti-SGML effect. However, the underlying mechanism of HP P-C against SGML remains elusive. This study aimed to elucidate how HP P-C extracts exert their protective effects on SGML by examining the role of gut microbiota and metabolites.Methods: SD rats were pretreated with different doses of HP P-C extracts for 6 days, followed by inducing SGML with water-immersion restraint stress (WIRS). After a comprehensive evaluation of serum and gastric tissue indicators in rats, 16S rRNA sequencing and metabolomics analyses were conducted to assess the impact of HP P-C on the fecal microorganisms and metabolites and their correlation.Results: Animal experiment suggested that pretreatment with HP P-C effectively reduced the gastric mucosal lesions, remarkably increased superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in SGML model rats induced by WIRS. 16S rRNA sequencing analysis showed that HP P-C altered the composition of gut microbiota by raising the abundance of Lactobacillus and Akkermansia. In addition, metabolomics data identified seventeen main differential metabolites related to WIRS-induced gastric mucosal injury, primarily involving in tyrosine metabolism and betalain biosynthesis. HP P-C was found to regulate tyrosine metabolism and betalain biosynthesis by down-regulating the tyramine, L-tyrosine and L-dopa and up -regulating the gentisic acid and dopaquinone.Conclusion: Taken together, this study indicated that HP P-C could effectively protect against WIRS-induced gastric mucosal lesions by modulating intestinal flora and metabolites.

With the advancement of technology and economic development, human living standards have been substantially improved. The demand for tourism has also increased. Smart tourism uses information technology to integrate tourism resources. Tourists are provided with the right travel solutions for their needs. To further enhance the tourist experience, a smart tour guide system based on attraction positioning and recommendation is proposed. The RankSVM+time algorithm and K-means clustering algorithm are used to achieve attraction recommendation. The tourist flow path planning method of scenic spots is combined with D*algorithm to realize dynamic programming of tourist routes. A smart tour guide system based on tourist demand analysis is established to achieve data interaction and attraction positioning. The tour guide system is built based on analyzing the needs of tourists, realizing the functions of data interaction and attraction location. Tour guide services are provided in the form of voice or image. The experimental data shows that the F-value of RankSVM+time algorithm reaches 0.75. The recommendation accuracy is higher than that of RankSVM+Markov algorithm. The shortest running time is 81 s, which is faster than other methods. The intelligent tour guide system also dynamically adjusts the route visit scheme when dynamic changes occur in the attractions. The results show that the intelligent tour guide system based on attraction location and recommendation is highly accurate, fast and adaptable, which can enhance the tourist experience of visitors.

Background: Polygonum hydropiper L (PH) was widely used to treat dysentery, gastroenteritis, diarrhea and other diseases. Coptis chinensis (CC) had the effects of clearing dampness-heat, purging fire, and detoxifying. Study confirmed that flavonoids in PH and alkaloids in CC alleviated inflammation to inhibit the development of intestinal inflammation. However, how PH-CC affects UC was unclear. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyze the mechanism of PH-CC on ulcerative colitis (UC) through network pharmacology and in vivo experiments. Methods: The active ingredients and targets of PH-CC and targets of UC were screened based on related databases. The core targets of PH-CC on UC was predicted by protein-protein interaction network (PPI), and then the Gene Ontology-biological processes (GO-BP) function enrichment analysis was conducted using the Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery (DAVID) database. The binding activity between pyroptosis proteins, core targets and effective ingredients were verified based on molecular docking technology. Finally, combined with the results of network pharmacology and literature research, the mechanism of PH-CC against UC was verified by in vivo experiments. Results: There were 23 active components and 191 potential targets in PH-CC, 5275 targets in UC, and 141 co-targets. GO-BP functional analysis of 141 co-targets showed that the first 20 biological processes were closely related to inflammation and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation. Furthermore, core targets had good binding activity with the corresponding compounds. Animal experiment indicated that PH-CC effectively prevented weight loss in UC mice, reduced the disease activity index (DAI) score, maintained colon length, suppressed myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, inhibited pyroptosis protein expression, and downregulated the levels of IL-18 and IL-1β to alleviate intestinal inflammation. Conclusions: The results of network pharmacology and animal experiments showed that PH-CC suppressed the inflammatory response, restored colon morphology, and inhibited pyroptosis in UC mice. Thus, PH-CC may improve UC by regulating the NOD-like receptor protein domain 3 (NLRP3)/Caspase-1 signaling pathway.

BackgroundThe relationships of the rs17782313 polymorphism near melanocortin 4 receptor gene (MC4R) and the rs8192678 polymorphism in peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1 alpha gene (PGC1α) with metabolic abnormalities have been explored in many populations around the world, but the findings were not all consistent and sometimes even a bit contradictory.MethodsElectronic databases including Medline, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, CNKI and Google Scholar were checked for studies that met the inclusion criteria. Data were carefully extracted from eligible studies. Standardized mean differences (SMDs) were calculated by using a random-effects model to examine the differences in the indexes of obesity, glucometabolic disorder and dyslipidemia between the genotypes of the rs17782313 and rs8192678 polymorphisms. Cochran’s Q-statistic test and Begg’s test were employed to identify heterogeneity among studies and publication bias, respectively.ResultsFifty studies (58,716 subjects) and 51 studies (18,660 subjects) were respectively included in the pooled meta-analyses for the rs17782313 and rs8192678 polymorphisms. The C-allele carriers of the rs17782313 polymorphism had a higher average level of body mass index (SMD = 0.21 kg/m2, 95% confidence interval [95% CI] = 0.12 to 0.29 kg/m2, p < 0.001), waist circumference (SMD = 0.14 cm, 95% CI = 0.06 to 0.23 cm, p < 0.001) and blood glucose (SMD = 0.09 mg/dL, 95% CI = 0.02 to 0.16 mg/dL, p = 0.01) than the TT homozygotes. Regarding the rs8192678 polymorphism, no significant associations with the indexes of obesity, glucometabolic disorder and dyslipidemia were detected. However, significant correlations between the rs8192678 polymorphism and multiple glucometabolic indexes were observed in subgroup analyses stratified by sex, age, ethnicity and health status.ConclusionThe meta-analysis demonstrates that the C allele of the MC4R rs17782313 polymorphism confers a higher risk of obesity and hyperglycemia, and the PGC1α rs8192678 polymorphism is weakly correlated with glucometabolic disorder. ObjectivesLimited efforts have been made to evaluate the effect of multimodal chemotherapy on the survival of gastric cancer patients with liver metastases (LMGC). This study aimed to identify prognostic factors in LMGC patients and the superiority of multimodal chemotherapy with respect to overall survival (OS) in these patients.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective cohort study of 1298 patients with M1 stage disease between January 2012 and December 2020. The effects of clinicopathological variables and preoperative chemotherapy (PECT), postoperative chemotherapy (POCT), and palliative chemotherapy on survival in patients with liver metastases (LM group) and non-liver metastases (non-LM group) were compared.ResultsOf the 1298 patients analysed, 546 (42.06%) were in the LM group and 752 (57.94%) were in the non-LM group. The median (interquartile range) age was 60 (51–66) years. The 1-year, 3-year and 5-year overall survival (OS) rates in the LM group were 29.3%, 13.9%, and 9.2%, respectively, and those in the non-LM group were. 38.2%, 17.4%, and 10.0%, respectively (P < 0.05, > 0.05, and > 0.05, respectively.) The Cox proportional hazards model revealed that palliative chemotherapy was a significant independent prognostic factor in both the LM and non-LM groups. Age ≥55 years, N stage, and Lauren classification were also independent predictors of OS in the LM group (P < 0.05). Palliative chemotherapy and POCT were associated with improved OS compared with PECT in the LM group (26.3% vs. 36.4% vs. 25.0%, P < 0.001).ConclusionLMGC patients had a worse prognosis than non- LMGC. Number of metastatic sites more than 1, liver and other metastatic sites, no CT treatment and HER2-negative had a poor prognosis. LMGC patient may benefit more from palliative chemotherapy and POCT than from PECT. Further well-designed, prospective studies are needed to validate these findings.

This paper uses panel data of listed heavily polluting enterprises from 2007 to 2021, based on the perspective of transformation and upgrading of heavy polluters, innovatively studies the impact of green credit on the green operation of enterprises. At the micro level, the research results of this paper verify the effectiveness of green credit policy on the transformation of green enterprises. It is also found that the two intermediary paths of debt cost and government subsidy play a partial intermediary role in the process of green credit promoting green enterprise transformation and upgrading. Green credit policy also moderates the green transformation of enterprises through debt cost and government subsidies. Based on the research results, this paper puts forward targeted policy suggestions from the aspects of financing constraints, government subsidy policies, enterprise technological innovation and green operation, and provides empirical support for the current expansion of green credit policies in China.

Periodontitis is a prevalent chronic inflammatory disease. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been revealed to play roles in the inflammatory response. Hence, this work aimed to explore the role and mechanism of circ_0062491 in periodontitis progression. Human periodontal ligament cells (PDLCs) were isolated from the periodontal ligament (PDL) of the healthy teeth with orthodontic requirement after tooth extraction. In vitro experiments were conducted by cell counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, flow cytometry, Western blot, and ELISA to determine cell viability, apoptosis, and inflammatory response. The binding between miR-498 and circ_0062491 or SOCS6 was confirmed using dual-luciferase reporter and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assays. Circ_0062491 expression was decreased in periodontitis and LPS-induced PDLCs. Restoration of circ_0062491 attenuated LPS-induced apoptosis and inflammation in PDLCs in vitro . Mechanistically, circ_0062491 functioned as a sponge for miR-498, and miR-498 directly targeted SOCS6. Rescue experiments showed that miR-498 up-regulation reversed the protective action of circ_0062491 on PDLCs under LPS treatment. Moreover, silencing of miR-498 protected PDLCs from LPS-induced apoptosis and inflammation, which were abolished by SOCS6 knockdown. Circ_0062491 protected PDLCs from LPS-induced apoptosis and inflammation, suggesting a new target for the amelioration of periodontitis patients.

BackgroundThe relationships between the rs1801282 and rs3856806 polymorphisms in nuclear receptor peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) gene and obesity indexes as well as serum lipid levels have been extensively investigated in various studies, but the results were inconsistent and even contradictory.MethodsPubMed, Google Scholar, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Wanfang, CNKI and VIP databases were searched for eligible studies. The random-effTPDEects model was used, and standardized mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was calculated to estimate the differences in obesity indexes and serum lipid levels between the subjects with different genotypes in a dominant model. Heterogeneity among studies was assessed by Cochran’s x2-based Q-statistic test. Publication bias was identified by using Begg’s test.ResultsOne hundred and twenty studies (70,317 subjects) and 33 studies (18,353 subjects) were identified in the analyses for the rs1801282 and rs3856806 polymorphisms, respectively. The G allele carriers of the rs1801282 polymorphism had higher levels of body mass index (SMD = 0.08 kg/m2, 95% CI = 0.04 to 0.12 kg/m2, p < 0.001), waist circumference (SMD = 0.12 cm, 95% CI = 0.06 to 0.18 cm, p < 0.001) and total cholesterol (SMD = 0.07 mmol/L, 95% CI = 0.02 to 0.11 mmol/L, p < 0.01) than the CC homozygotes. The T allele carriers of the rs3856806 polymorphism had lower levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (SMD = -0.09 mmol/L, 95% CI = -0.15 to -0.03 mmol/L, p < 0.01) and higher levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (SMD = 0.06 mmol/L, 95% CI = 0.02 to 0.10 mmol/L, p < 0.01) than the CC homozygotes.ConclusionsThe meta-analysis suggests that the G allele of the rs1801282 polymorphism confers an increased risk of obesity and hypercholesterolemia, while the T allele of the rs3856806 polymorphism displays a protective role against dyslipidemia, which can partly explain the associations between these polymorphisms and cardiovascular disease.Systematic Review Registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/, identifier [CRD42022319347].
