Cardiometabolic risk factors increase the chance of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes. Most CVD risk factors are influenced by total and regional obesity. A higher risk of developing CVD may be linked to vitamin D deficiency, which is more prevalent in the older population. With the goal of evaluating the association between vitamin D and cardiometabolic risk factors and total and regional obesity in older adults, this research included 25 (OH) vitamin D3 concentrations and biochemical markers associated with cardiometabolic diseases, as well as total and regional adiposity, which was measured by DXA. A total of 1991 older participants in the PoCOsteo study were included. Overall, 38.5% of participants had vitamin D deficiency. After adjusting for confounders, the results of multiple linear and logistic regression suggested an inverse association between vitamin D and body mass index (P = 0.04), waist circumference (P = 0.001), total fat (P = 0.02), android fat (P = 0.001), visceral fat (P < 0.001), subcutaneous fat (P = 0.01), trunk fat (P = 0.006), arm fat (P = 0.03), high systolic blood pressure (P = 0.004), high total cholesterol (P < 0.001), high LDL-cholesterol (P < 0.001), high serum triglycerides (P = 0.001), and high fasting glucose (P < 0.001). Additionally, higher vitamin D concentrations decreased the risk of dyslipidemia by 2%. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a disorder in which excess fat accumulates in hepatocytes and can lead to serious complications. Oxidative stress is one of the leading causes of NAFLD. Pomegranates are considered antioxidant‐rich fruit. This systematic review study was aimed to investigate the impact of pomegranate on NAFLD. PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases/search engines (from inception up to July 2023) were searched for interventional studies (human and animal) that examined the effects of supplementation with different parts of pomegranate including fruits, peels, seeds, or flower on NAFLD outcomes. A total of 222 articles were retrieved following the initial search. After excluding duplicates, the title and abstract of 114 articles were screened. Afterward, irrelevant articles were removed and the full texts of the remaining 27 articles were reviewed. Eventually, 19 articles (16 animal and three human interventional studies) that met the inclusion criteria, published between 2009 and 2023, were included in this systematic review. Our study indicates the potential beneficial effects of different parts of pomegranate on the improvement of NAFLD. However, given that the majority of the included articles were animal studies, further investigations in the form of human clinical trials are warranted to suggest a clinical indication of such interventions. Background: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the primary cause of mortality globally. The prevalence of obesity is rising worldwide; there seems to be a significant positive association between obesity and CVDs. The distribution of fat in the abdominal area in the form of visceral (VAT) or subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) affects the risk of CVDs. The aim of the present study was to conduct a systematic review of the available literature regarding the association between the VAT-to-SAT ratio and CVDs. Methods: A comprehensive search strategy was used to retrieve all human observational studies indexed in PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar databases/search engines (from Jan 2000 up to Oct 2023). The VAT-to-SAT or SAT-to-VAT ratio was an independent variable and various cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension, atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease and heart failure, were considered as outcomes of interest. Results: Out of 1173 initial studies, 910 papers were screened. Based on the inclusion criteria, 883 papers were excluded. Finally, 27 papers (18 cross-sectional and 9 cohort studies) published between 2010 and 2023 which met the inclusion criteria were reviewed. Conclusions: The distribution of abdominal fat seems to be associated with the risk of CVDs; the majority of the evidence suggests that a higher abdominal VAT-to-SAT ratio is associated with the development of CVDs. Background and objectives: Multimorbidity, defined as the presence of two or more long-term health conditions in an individual, is one of the most significant challenges facing health systems worldwide. This study aimed to identify determinants of classes of multimorbidity among older adults in Iran. Research Design and methods: In a cross-sectional sample of older adults (aged ≥ 60 years) from the second stage of the Bushehr Elderly Health (BEH) program in southern Iran, latent class analysis (LCA) was used to identify patterns of multimorbidity. Multinomial logistic regression was conducted to investigate factors associated with each multimorbidity class, including age, gender, education, household income, physical activity, smoking status, and polypharmacy. Results: In 2,426 study participants (mean age 69 years, 52% female), the overall prevalence of multimorbidity was 80.2%. Among those with multimorbidity, 3 latent classes were identified. These comprised: class 1, individuals with a low burden of multisystem disease (56.9%); class 2, individuals with predominantly cardiovascular-metabolic disorders (25.8%) and class 3, individuals with predominantly cognitive and metabolic disorders (17.1%). Compared with men, women were more likely to belong to class 2 (odds ratio [OR] 1.96, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.52–2.54) and class 3 (OR 4.52, 95% CI 3.22–6.35). Polypharmacy was associated with membership class 2 (OR 3.52, 95% CI: 2.65–4.68) and class 3 (OR 1.84, 95% CI 1.28–2.63). Smoking was associated with membership in class 3 (OR 1.44, 95% CI 1.01–2.08). Individuals with higher education levels (59%) and higher levels of physical activity (39%) were less likely to belong to class 3 (OR 0.41; 95% CI: 0.28–0.62) and to class 2 (OR 0.61; 95% CI: 0.38–0.97), respectively. Those at older age were less likely to belong to class 2 (OR 0.95). Discussion and implications: A large proportion of older adults in Iran have multimorbidity. Female sex, polypharmacy, sedentary lifestyle, and poor education levels were associated with cardiovascular-metabolic multimorbidity and cognitive and metabolic multimorbidity. This article discusses a case of a sellar gangliocytoma that was initially mistaken for an enlarging pituitary adenoma. The patient, a 62-year-old male, presented with memory loss and imaging revealed a sellar mass. Despite negative hormonal workup and no conflict with the optic apparatus, the tumor continued to grow, prompting surgical intervention. The surgery was successful, with no complications, and the final pathology confirmed a World Health Organization (WHO) Grade 1 gangliocytoma. Among the important needs of human societies are the reduction of biological pollution and the use of environmentally friendly and inexpensive solvents. For the synthesis of medicinally important heterocycles, there is a need for an easy, efficient, and environmentally friendly catalytic protocol through multicomponent reaction (MCR). In this regard, the construction of multi-functional composites has been considered. A novel magnetic graphite carbon nitride decorated by tri-vanadium substituted Dawson-type heteropolytungstate nanocomposite (C3N4/Fe3O4@P2W15V3) effectively synthesized and characterized by prevalent functional analysis. This heterogeneous catalyst produced various tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyran derivatives in the presence of ethanol as a green solvent. Among the advantages observed for this method is the presence of a heterogeneous and reusable catalyst that is easily isolated and provides a high yield of products in a very short reaction time with high purity. Introduction: Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) is an acid phosphatase metalloprotein enzyme expressed in osteoclasts and is related to bone resorption. The molecular mechanisms involved in the different behavior of odontogenic keratocysts have not yet been fully elucidated. The purpose of this study was to compare TRAP expression in odontogenic keratocysts, radicular cysts, and dentigerous cysts. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we selected 60 samples, including 20 cases of each one of the odontogenic keratocysts (OKC), radicular cysts (RC) and dentigerous cysts (DC). The samples were stained with TRAP monoclonal antibodies using immunohistochemistry. The data were analyzed using the Chi-Square and Kruskal-Wallis tests. Results: In this study, TRAP expression was observed in the lining epithelium of 50% of OKC cases and 5% of RC cases, while it was negative in the lining epithelium of DC. This difference was statistically significant (p<0.001). Moreover, the TRAP staining intensity in the lining epithelium had a significant difference between the groups (P<0.001). TRAP expression in the connective tissue of OKC, RC, and DC was positive in 35%, 30%, and 20% of the cases, respectively. This difference was not statistically significant (P=0.788). Also, staining intensity of TRAP-positive cells in the connective tissue of the lesions was not significant (P=0.634). Conclusion: In this study, we found a higher expression of TRAP in the lining epithelium of OKC, which may be one of the reasons for the aggressive behavior of OKC compared to other cysts. Organic-inorganic nanohybrid ionic liquid based on polyoxometalate [H2 [MIMBS]4 [P2W18O62].11H2O] (MIMB-P2W18) has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis technique, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), 1H, 13C, and 15P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The catalytic activity of this nanohybrid ionic liquid has been studied in multi-component reactions to generate pyran and spiro indoline derivatives. Tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyrans have been successfully synthesized by one-pot three-component condensation of aldehyde, malononitrile and dimedone (or cyclohexane-1,3-dione/3-methyl-2-pyrazoline-5-one) using MIMB-P2W18 as a heterogeneous nano-catalyst. Furthermore, a set of multi-substituted spiro[indoline-3,4׳-pyrano[2,3-c]pyrazole] has been synthesized from isatin, hydrazinehydrate/phenylhydrazine, ethyl acetoacetate and malononitrile/ethyl cyanoacetate in the presence of the same catalyst via one-pot four-component method at room temperature. These procedures have several advantages such as high yields of product, easy work-up procedure, short reaction time and stability, non-toxicity, cheapness and reusability of the catalyst.
