Objectives Our aims were (a) to describe the prevalence and incidence of self-reported injuries and illnesses of amateur golfers over a 5-month period and (b) to investigate potential risk factors for injury.Methods We recruited 910 amateur golfers (733 males [81%] and 177 females [19%]) from golf clubs in the USA and Switzerland. The median age was 60 (IQR: 47–67) and the median golfing handicap was 12 (IQR: 6–18). Participants’ health was monitored weekly for 5 months using the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Centre Questionnaire on Health Problems. Players also completed a baseline questionnaire on personal and golf-specific characteristics and their medical history.Results We distributed 19 406 questionnaires and received 11 180 responses (57.6%). The prevalence of injuries was 11.3% (95% CI: 9.8 to 12.8) and of illnesses was 2% (95% CI 1.7 to 2.2). The incidence of injuries and illnesses was 3.79 (95% CI 3.54 to 4.06) and 0.94 (95% CI 0.81 to 1.07) per golfer per year, respectively. The injury regions with the highest burden of injury (time-loss days per player per year) were lumbosacral spine (5.93), shoulder (3.47) and knee (2.08). Injury risk was higher with increased age, osteoarthritis and previous injury.Conclusion The prevalence and incidence of injury and illness in amateur golf were low compared with many other sports. To further reduce the burden of injury, future research attention should be directed towards the lumbosacral spine, knee and shoulder.

IntroductionThe midgut epithelium functions as tissue for nutrient uptake as well as physical barrier against pathogens. Additionally, it responds to pathogen contact by production and release of various factors including antimicrobial peptides, similar to the systemic innate immune response. However, if such a response is restricted to a local stimulus or if it appears in response to a systemic infection, too is a rather underexplored topic in insect immunity. We addressed the role of the midgut and the role of systemic immune tissues in the defense against gut-borne and systemic infections, respectively.MethodsManduca sexta larvae were challenged with DAP-type peptidoglycan bacteria – Bacillus thuringiensis for local gut infection and Escherichia coli for systemic stimulation. We compared the immune response to both infection models by measuring mRNA levels of four selected immunity-related genes in midgut, fat body, hematopoietic organs (HOs), and hemocytes, and determined hemolymph antimicrobial activity. Hemocytes and HOs were tested for presence and distribution of lysozyme mRNA and protein.ResultsThe midgut and circulating hemocytes exhibited a significantly increased level of lysozyme mRNA in response to gut infection but did not significantly alter expression in response to a systemic infection. Conversely, fat body and HOs responded to both infection models by altered mRNA levels of at least one gene monitored. Most, but not all hemocytes and HO cells contain lysozyme mRNA and protein.DiscussionThese data suggest that the gut recruits immune-related tissues in response to gut infection whereas systemic infections do not induce a response in the midgut. The experimental approach implies a skewed cross-talk: An intestinal infection triggers immune activity in systemic immune organs, while a systemic infection does not elicit any or only a restricted immune response in the midgut. The HOs, which form and release hemocytes in larval M. sexta, i) synthesize lysozyme, and ii) respond to immune challenges by increased immune gene expression. These findings strongly suggest that they not only provide phagocytes for the cellular immune response but also synthesize humoral immune components.

Objectives The primary aim was to describe the characteristics and prevalence of musculoskeletal complaints of a large group of non-professional golfers. Secondary aims were to compare golfers different in (A) skill-level, (B) presence of low back pain (LBP) and (C) performance of prevention exercises.Methods A sample of 1170 male golfers (mean age 54.98, SD=13.3) were surveyed online on personal and golf-specific characteristics, medical history and complaints in the preceding 7 days. Subgroups (A) with different golfing handicap (0 to 5, >5 to 10, >10), (B) with and without LBP and (C) who performed versus did not perform injury prevention exercises were compared using analysis of variance and χ2 test.Results The prevalence and severity of musculoskeletal complaints was similar in everyday life and when playing golf. More than one-third of the golfers (n=436; 37.3%) reported LBP in the preceding 7 days, while other frequently affected body parts were the shoulder and knee. Golfers with different skill level differed in age and most golf-related characteristics but not in prevalence and severity of musculoskeletal complaints. Golfers with and without LBP were similar in almost all variables. Golfers who performed prevention exercises (n=371; 27.1%) were older and had a higher prevalence of complaints.Conclusion The prevalence and severity of musculoskeletal complaints in golfers were similar to the wider population. It seems that injury prevention exercises were implemented after injury, rather than as primary prevention. Prospective studies looking at the epidemiology of injury, risk factors and interventions are required.

Path planning or network route planning problems are an important issue in AI, robotics, or computer games. Appropriate implementation and knowledge of advanced and classical path-planning algorithms can be important for both autonomous navigation systems and computer games. In this paper, we compare advanced path planning algorithms implemented on a two-dimensional grid. Advanced path planning algorithms, including pseudocode, are introduced. The experiments were performed in the Python environment, thus with a significant performance margin over C++ or Rust implementations. The main focus is on the speedup of the algorithms compared to a baseline method, which was chosen to be the well-known Dijkstra's algorithm. All experiments correspond to trajectories on a two-dimensional grid, with variously defined constraints. The motion from each node corresponds to a Moore neighborhood, i.e., it is possible in eight directions. In this paper, three well-known path planning algorithms are described and compared: the Dijkstra, A* and A* /w Bounding Box. And two advanced methods are included, namely Jump Point Search (JPS), incorporated with the Bounding Box variant (JPS+BB), and Simple Subgoal (SS). These advanced methods clearly show their advantage in the context of the speed up of solution time.

This study aims to contribute to the systematisation of knowledge in the field of business strategies and analyse its trends. An initial dataset of 884 articles was extracted from the WoS and Scopus databases based on keywords. This dataset was reduced to 430 articles by detailed reading and processed through bibliometric analysis and text mining. The bibliometric analysis confirmed an increasing number of articles, unbalanced contributions of individual journals, and unbalanced citation rates by articles and authors. Textmining analysis showed the dominance of Porter’s generic strategies and Miles and Snow’s typology of strategies. The results show that the theory of business strategy is not subject to trends and has not yet been significantly affected by changes in real business, thus creating opportunities for future research. This study addresses the gap in the comprehensive review of trends in business strategy development.

In Czechia, harvesters contributed 43% of the total annual timber production in 2022. It is assumed that harvester technology will continue to be used intensively in the future, even though there is a change in the tree species composition of forests after the recent bark beetle outbreak and an increase in the use of close-to-nature forest management. The aim of this study was to analyse the over- and under-bark volume estimates of European larch timber produced by a harvester in Czechia. This study used the M3s price category for volume estimation. This volume was compared with the M3toDE price category. The M3toDE price category underestimated the over-bark volume by 5.59% compared to the M3s price category. However, for use in forestry practice in Czechia it is currently necessary to use the M3toDE price category. Therefore, the M3toDE price category was used to compare under-bark volumes according to different bark deduction methods. Differences were found between all the five methods investigated. Understanding this sub-issue will help in training operators, acquiring comprehensive knowledge about the functioning of harvester software and maximising the economic effect of the sale of larch timber.

The subject matter of the paper is motivation for second language learning under specific conditions of military service in the Czech Armed Forces. Motivation is the fundamental source of any human action, influencing goals and objectives, attitudes and efforts but also results achieved by each individual. As such, motivation belongs to the most important factors of learners´ success. The paper is based on an explanatory research perspective, aiming at identifying the relative importance of different factors of motivation in second language learning. The presented paper methodology consists of a questionnaire survey, followed by an analysis and interpretation of gathered data. The research material, covered by the survey, is the motivation of the Czech Armed Forces personnel attending foreign language courses to learn second foreign language at the University of Defence Language Centre in 2022. This survey has been designed to enable language educators to identify and further analyse relative significance of individual motivational factors and their perception by second language learners as either internal, or external. As the survey outcomes show, the Czech military personnel motivation to learn second foreign language is not primarily generated by their current job needs and requirements. At the same time, the Czech military personnel attending foreign language courses perceive their learning motivation as predominantly internal.

On a mounted laboratory stand, comparative tests were carried out on the effectiveness of spraying wheat plants with liquid using a multi-rotor drone. The study was undertaken with and without propeller rotations. The lack of rotations simulated spraying by a ground sprayer. The height of the drone’s displacement above the plants was similar to that of the nozzles above the plants used when spraying with field sprayers, 0.5 m and 1.0 m. The speed of the drone movement was 0.57 and 1.0 m·s−1. The effects of the height and speed of the drone’s movement and the impact of the airflow on the volume and uniformity of the liquid application on the plants were assessed. In addition, changes in the transverse distribution of liquid volume in the droplet stream and the transverse distribution of the air velocity in its stream were evaluated. The liquid was sprayed at a constant pressure of 0.2 MPa. The study’s results show that the low height of the drone displacement not only had a strong effect on increasing the liquid volume applied to the plants but also improved the uniformity of application at plant levels. It was also noticed that, at a height of 0.5 m, there was a significant irregularity in the air stream under the drone.

Abstract Background Molecular aberrations occurring in primary ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC) can be of diagnostic, predictive, and prognostic significance. However, a complex molecular study including genomic and transcriptomic analysis of large number of OCCC has been lacking. Methods 113 pathologically confirmed primary OCCCs were analyzed using capture DNA NGS (100 cases; 727 solid cancer related genes) and RNA-Seq (105 cases; 147 genes) in order to describe spectra and frequency of genomic and transcriptomic alterations, as well as their prognostic and predictive significance. Results The most frequent mutations were detected in genes ARID1A, PIK3CA, TERTp, KRAS, TP53, ATM, PPP2R1A, NF1, PTEN, and POLE (51,47,27,18,13,10,7,6,6, and 4%, respectively). TMB-High cases were detected in 9% of cases. Cases with POLE mut and/or MSI-High had better relapse-free survival. RNA-Seq revealed gene fusions in 14/105 (13%) cases, and heterogeneous expression pattern. The majority of gene fusions affected tyrosine kinase receptors (6/14; four of those were MET fusions) or DNA repair genes (2/14). This work investigates the creep behavior of severely deformed commercial aluminum. The commercial aluminum was processed by helical rolling (HR) and equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) at room temperature. During these processes, the equivalent strain up to about 4 was imposed into the as-received material. The creep testing at 200 °C revealed that HR and ECAP significantly increased the time to fracture compared to the as-received material. The stress dependences showed that the value of stress exponent n decreased with the value of the imposed strain. The stress-change tests showed that as-received and severely deformed states exhibited different recovery rates after unloading. The microstructure analysis showed that creep behavior was influenced by the microstructure formed during severe plastic deformation. The relationships between creep behavior and microstructure in the investigated states are discussed.

A spatial point pattern is a collection of points in space, representing, e.g. observed locations of trees, bird nests, centers of cells in a histological sample, etc. When several independent realizations of the underlying stochastic process are observed, these realizations are referred to as replicated point patterns. The main objective of this paper is to classify a newly observed pattern into one of the existing classes using a supervised nonparametric classification method, namely the Bayes classifier in combination with the k-nearest neighbors algorithms and the kernel regression method. The dissimilarity between a pair of patterns is defined using the functional summaries extracted from the point patterns via the Cramér-von Mises or Kolmogorov-Smirnov type formula. A set of simulation experiments is presented to investigate the performance of the proposed classifier with a dissimilarity measure based on functional summaries, such as the pair correlation function. The application of such a classifier to a real point pattern dataset is also illustrated.

Our research aimed to quantify and evaluate the stress loading of drivers by monitoring the loading of the radial extensor muscle at the wrist joint (musculus extensor carpi radialis) when they drove different types of timber trucks. We monitored changes in the electric potential of skeletal muscles with electromyographic measurements and measurements of changes of heart rate using the Biofeedback 2000 x-pert device. The drivers were observed throughout their work shifts during normal operation of logging trucks and logging trucks with trailers. As a reference, muscle load was measured when driving a passenger car. We evaluated the normality of the measured data and obtained descriptive statistics from the individual measurements. The differences in stress load associated with driving the different types of vehicles increased whilst driving on lower-class roads. Results showed a high stress load for drivers of loaded vehicles when driving on narrow roads. It was more challenging to control a loaded logging truck with a trailer than driving a logging truck, with the difference in muscular loading reaching 22.5%. Driving a logging truck with a trailer produced 46.5% more muscle loading compared to driving a loaded passenger car. For preventive health and safety reasons, it would be reasonable to alternate between drivers when operating various vehicles, thus minimizing the development of possible health issues.

The study aimed to assess the quality of spraying of ornamental conifer using a multi-rotor drone. We examined how the speed of drone movement and the propellers’ spin speed can affect the deposition quality of the sprayed liquid in the crown of blue spruce (Picea pungens Engelm.). Due to the avoidance in the future of droplet drift by air movements, an air injector atomiser for liquid spraying was used, and a low altitude of 0.6 m of the drone flying above the tree was used in the study. The drone moved at two speeds: 0.57 m·s–1 and 0.94 m·s–1. The propellers’ spin speeds were adjusted based on the drone’s weight with the spray liquid tank filled and empty. The propellers’ zero-spin rate was also included to compare the drone to a field sprayer. The tests were conducted in a laboratory setting. Volume and uniformity of liquid volume settled on the levels of samplers positioned on a tripod within the tree canopy were assessed. The samplers were placed in two zones of the tree: near the tree trunk and at a distance of 0.21 m from the trunk. Airstream speed generated by drone propellers was also evaluated inside the tree. The findings indicated that the rotations of propellers and air speed significantly influenced the quality of liquid deposition on samplers located away from the trunk. The results also showed that using a drone instead of a field sprayer could benefit the quality of the spray application. The weight of the multi-rotor drone, determined by the spray liquid tank’s filling level, can significantly impact the quality of spray deposition in the tree. Based on the investigations, it can be recommended that low-altitude spraying drones be adopted for studies and future strategies in precision agriculture using autonomous inspection-spraying drones.

Limited tillage provides a number of benefits, but a question remains how it affects weed community and biodiversity evolving from the weed community. Our field experiment was established in the cadastral area of Branišovice (South Moravian Region, Czech Republic). Three different tillage technologies were used in this field experiment: conventional tillage, minimum tillage, and no-tillage technology. In 2001–2004, infestation by weeds was evaluated in the stands of spring barley, winter wheat grown after a dicot pre-crop (rape, soybean), in the stands of wheat grown after wheat, and in stands of maize. The recorded weed species were divided according to the criteria of biological relevance. Based on the results of the four-year field experiment, it is possible to state that tillage technologies have only a limited influence on the intensity of weeding but substantially alter the species spectrum of weeds. Weed vegetation in the no-tillage variant exhibits higher values of biological relevance, which allows a higher occurrence of weed-dependent species of organisms. Weed vegetation in the minimum soil tillage variant has the lowest biological relevance values, which limits the occurrence of weed-dependent organisms. Alterations in weeding caused by different tillage technologies are part of the process of vegetation microevolution in the agricultural landscape.
