Abstract

Dear Editor, Findings from nationally representative health databases have been shown to influence management guidelines and research spending.1 However, conclusions drawn from national datasets require disease validation. Drug reaction diagnoses that should have been coded as a more specific drug eruption with a separate ICD-9/10 code (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis) were considered misclassified as definitely not accurately coded, as a more specific code exists.
