We discuss the classical continuum limit of the string field theory dual to the $\mathrm{SU}(N)$ lattice gauge theory and investigate various fundamental phenomena in the continuum theory at the mean-field level. Our construction of the continuum theory is based on the concept of {\it area derivative}, which can be regarded as a generalization of the ordinary derivative $\partial/\partial x^\mu$ to operators acting on functional fields $\phi[C]$ on the loop space. The resultant continuum theory has a $\mathbb{Z}_N^{}$ $1$-form global symmetry, which originates in the $\mathbb{Z}_N^{}$ center symmetry in the gauge theory. We find that the confined and deconfined phases of the gauge theory are identified by the unbroken and broken phases of the $\mathbb{Z}_N^{}$ symmetry respectively by showing the Area/Perimeter law of the classical solution. In the broken phase, the low-energy effective theory is described by a $\mathrm{BF}$-type topological field theory and has a emergent $\mathbb{Z}_N^{}$ $(D-2)$-form global symmetry. The existence of the emergent symmetry is deeply related to $(D-2)$-dimensional topological configurations (i.e. center vortex for $D=4$), and we explicitly construct such a topological defect in the continuum theory. In this paper, we address the challenge of fine-grained video event understanding in traffic scenarios, vital for autonomous driving and safety. Traditional datasets focus on driver or vehicle behavior, often neglecting pedestrian perspectives. To fill this gap, we introduce the WTS dataset, highlighting detailed behaviors of both vehicles and pedestrians across over 1.2k video events in hundreds of traffic scenarios. WTS integrates diverse perspectives from vehicle ego and fixed overhead cameras in a vehicle-infrastructure cooperative environment, enriched with comprehensive textual descriptions and unique 3D Gaze data for a synchronized 2D/3D view, focusing on pedestrian analysis. We also pro-vide annotations for 5k publicly sourced pedestrian-related traffic videos. Additionally, we introduce LLMScorer, an LLM-based evaluation metric to align inference captions with ground truth. Using WTS, we establish a benchmark for dense video-to-text tasks, exploring state-of-the-art Vision-Language Models with an instance-aware VideoLLM method as a baseline. Q-balls are non-topological solitons in field theories whose stability is typically guaranteed by the existence of a global conserved charge. A classic realization is the Friedberg-Lee-Sirlin (FLS) Q-ball in a two-scalar system where a real scalar $\chi$ triggers symmetry breaking and confines a complex scalar $\Phi$ with a global $U(1)$ symmetry. A quartic interaction $\kappa \chi^2|\Phi|^2$ with $\kappa>0$ is usually considered to produce a nontrivial Q-ball configuration, and this repulsive force contributes to its stability. On the other hand, the attractive cubic interaction $\Lambda \chi |\Phi|^2$ is generally allowed in a renormalizable theory and could induce an instability. In this paper, we study the behavior of the Q-ball under the influence of this attractive force which has been overlooked. We find approximate Q-ball solutions in the limit of weak and moderate force couplings using the thin-wall and thick-wall approximations respectively. Our analytical results are consistent with numerical simulations and predict the parameter dependencies of the maximum charge. A crucial difference with the ordinary FLS Q-ball is the existence of the maximum charge beyond which the Q-ball solution is classically unstable. Such a limitation of the charge fundamentally affects Q-ball formation in the early Universe and could plausibly lead to the formation of primordial black holes., Comment: Matches with the published version; 30 pages, 6 figures

We investigate a structure of a 4-dimensional bulk space constructed from the $O(N)$ invariant critical $\varphi^4$ model in 3-dimension using the conformal smearing. We calculate a bulk metric corresponding to the information metric and the bulk-to-boundary propagator for a composite scalar field $\varphi^2$ in the large $N$ expansion. We show that the bulk metric describes an asymptotic AdS space at both UV (near boundary) and IR (deep in the bulk) limits, which correspond to the asymptotic free UV fixed point and the Wilson-Fischer IR fixed point of the 3-dimensional $\varphi^4$ model, respectively. The bulk-to-boundary scalar propagator, on the other hand, encodes $\Delta_{\varphi^2}$ (the conformal dimension of $\varphi^2$) into its $z$ (a coordinate in the extra direction of the AdS space) dependence. Namely it correctly reproduces not only $\Delta_{\varphi^2}=1$ at UV fixed point but also $\Delta_{\varphi^2}=2$ at the IR fixed point for the boundary theory. Moreover, we confirm consistency with the GKP-Witten relation in the interacting theory that the coefficient of the $z^{\Delta_{\varphi^2}}$ term in $z\to 0$ limit agrees exactly with the two-point function of $\varphi^2$ including an effect of the $\varphi^4$ interaction., Comment: 23 pages, 2 figures, references added

We propose a field theory of closed $p$-brane $C_p^{}$ interacting with a $(p+1)$-form gauge field $A_{p+1}^{}$. This is a generalization of the Ginzburg-Landau theory (Abelian-Higgs model) for superconducting particles to higher-dimensional superconducting branes. A higher-form gauge invariant action is constructed by utilizing the Area derivative, which is a higher-dimensional generalization of the ordinary derivative. We find that the fundamental phenomena of superconductivity, such as the Meisser effect, topological defects, topological order, are naturally extended in the brane-field theory. We explicitly construct a topologically non-trivial static configuration that is characterized by the first homotopy group. Then, we calculate the low-energy effective theory in the presence of the topological defect and find that it is described by a BF-type topological field theory coupled with the world-volume of the topological defect. We also conjecture an infra-red duality between the superconducting brane-field model and dual brane-field model with a global $\mathrm{U}(1)$ higher-form symmetry as a generalization of the Particle-Vortex duality., Comment: 26 pages, 2 figures, 2 tables

In models with non-minimal Higgs sectors, enforcing (near) Higgs alignment, necessary to prevent significant deviations in the Higgs boson coupling from the standard model prediction, causes a serious fine-tuning problem. We demonstrate that the Higgs alignment is naturally deduced from the multicritical point principle (MPP) in the general two Higgs doublet model. Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have demonstrated their versatility across various applications, including data augmentation and malware detection. This research explores the effectiveness of utilizing GAN-generated data to train a model for the detection of Android malware. Given the considerable storage requirements of Android applications, the study proposes a method to synthetically represent data using GANs, thereby reducing storage demands. The proposed methodology involves creating image representations of features extracted from an existing dataset. A GAN model is then employed to generate a more extensive dataset consisting of realistic synthetic grayscale images. Subsequently, this synthetic dataset is utilized to train a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) designed to identify previously unseen Android malware applications. The study includes a comparative analysis of the CNN's performance when trained on real images versus synthetic images generated by the GAN. Furthermore, the research explores variations in performance between the Wasserstein Generative Adversarial Network (WGAN) and the Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Network (DCGAN). The investigation extends to studying the impact of image size and malware obfuscation on the classification model's effectiveness. The data augmentation approach implemented in this study resulted in a notable performance enhancement of the classification model, ranging from 1.5% to 7%, depending on the dataset. We provide an improved definition of new conserved quantities derived from the energy-momentum tensor in curved spacetime by introducing an additional scalar function. We find that the conserved current and the associated conserved charge become geometric under a certain initial condition of the scalar function, and show that such a conserved geometric current generally exists in curved spacetime. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the geometric conserved current agrees with the entropy current for the perfect fluid, thus the conserved charge is the total entropy of the system. We propose an effective field theory for branes with higher-form symmetry as a generalization of ordinary Landau theory, which is an extension of the previous work by Iqbal and McGreevy for one-dimensional objects to an effective theory for $p$-dimensional objects. In the case of a $p$-form symmetry, the fundamental field $\psi[C_p^{}]$ is a functional of $p$-dimensional closed brane $C_p^{}$ embedded in a spacetime. As a natural generalization of ordinary field theory, we call this theory the brane field theory. In order to construct an action that is invariant under higher-form transformation, we generalize the idea of area derivative for one-dimensional objects to higher-dimensional ones. Following this, we discuss various fundamental properties of the brane field based on the higher-form invariant action. It is shown that the classical solution exhibits the area law in the unbroken phase of $\mathrm{U}(1)$ $p$-form symmetry, while it indicates a constant behavior in the broken phase for the large volume limit of $C_p^{}$. In the latter case, the low-energy effective theory is described by the $p$-form Maxwell theory. We also discuss brane-field theories with a discrete higher-form symmetry and show that the low-energy effective theory becomes a BF-type topological field theory, resulting in topological order. We study the response of generating functionals to a variation of parameters (couplings) in equilibrium systems i.e. in quantum field theory (QFT) and equilibrium statistical mechanics. These parameters can be either physical ones such as coupling constants or artificial ones which are intentionally introduced such as the renormalization scale in field theories. We first derive general functional flow equations for the generating functional (grand-canonical potential) $W[J]$ of the connected diagrams. Then, we obtain functional flow equations for the one-particle irreducible ($1$PI) vertex functional (canonical potential) $\Gamma[\phi]$ by performing the Legendre transformation. By taking the functional derivatives of the flow equations, we can obtain an infinite hierarchical equations for the $1$PI vertices. We also point out that a Callan-Symanzik type equation holds among the vertices when partition function is invariant under some changes of the parameters. After discussing general aspects of parameter response, we apply our formalism to several examples and reproduce the well-known functional flow equations. We construct a bulk spacetime from a boundary CFT, $O(N)$ free scalar model, at finite temperature using a smearing technique, called a conformal flow. The bulk metric is constructed as an information metric associated with the boundary thermal state. Near the boundary (UV region), an asymptotically AdS spacetime is obtained with a leading order perturbation of scalar mode. Based on the falloff behavior of the perturbations and the $O(N)$ symmetry in the CFT, we argue that the corresponding bulk theory is a modified gravity with scalar mode such as $f(R)$ gravity rather than Einstein's general relativity coupled minimally to matter fields. Moving to Einstein frame, we show that the metric is asymptotically the same as the AdS black brane solution. On the other hand, deep in the bulk (IR region), the spacetime turns out to be conformally equivalent to the near horizon limit of AdS extremal black brane, though it is no longer a solution of $f(R)$ gravity, and hence more general classes of modified gravity need to be considered., Comment: 24 pages, 2 figures

In ordinary thermodynamics, around first-order phase transitions, the intensive parameters such as temperature and pressure are automatically fixed to the phase transition point when one controls the extensive parameters such as total volume and total energy. From the microscopic point of view, the extensive parameters are more fundamental than the intensive parameters. Analogously, in conventional quantum field theory (QFT), coupling constants (including masses) in the path integral correspond to intensive parameters in the partition function of the canonical formulation. Therefore, it is natural to expect that in a more fundamental formulation of QFT, coupling constants are dynamically fixed a posteriori, just as the intensive parameter in the micro-canonical formulation. Here, we demonstrate that the automatic tuning of the coupling constants is realized at a quantum-phase-transition point at zero temperature, even when the transition is of higher order, due to the Lorentzian nature of the path integral. This naturally provides a basic foundation for the multi-critical point principle. As a concrete toy model for solving the Higgs hierarchy problem, we study how the mass parameter is fixed in the $\phi^4$ theory at the one-loop level in the micro-canonical or further generalized formulation of QFT. We find that there are two critical points for the renormalized mass: zero and of the order of ultraviolet-cutoff. In the former, the Higgs mass is automatically tuned to be zero and thus its fine-tuning problem is solved. We also show that the quadratic divergence is absent in a more realistic two-scalar model that realizes the dimensional transmutation. Additionally, we explore the possibility of fixing quartic coupling in $\phi^4$ theory and find that it can be fixed to a finite value., Comment: 29 pages, 3 figures

We constructed a large-scale electromagnetic calorimeter prototype as a part of the Forward Calorimeter upgrade project (FoCal) for the ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The prototype, also known as ``Mini FoCal'', consists of 20 layers of silicon pad sensors and tungsten alloy plates with printed circuit boards and readout electronics. The constructed detector was tested at the test beam facility of the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) at CERN. We obtain an energy resolution of about 4.3% for electron beams at both 150 and 250 GeV/$c$, which is consistent with realistic detector response simulations. Longitudinal profiles of electromagnetic shower were also measured and found to agree with the simulations. The same prototype detector was installed in the ALICE experimental area about 7.5m away from the interaction point. It was used to measure inclusive electromagnetic cluster energy distributions and neutral-pion candidate invariant mass distributions for pseudo-rapidity of $\eta$=3.7-4.5 in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV at LHC. Primordial black hole (PBH) formation from first order phase transitions combines two prevalent elements of Beyond the Standard Model physics with wide-ranging consequences. We elaborate on a recently proposed scenario in which inhomogeneities in vacuum energy decay seed the overdensities that collapse to primordial black holes. In this scenario, the PBH mass is determined by the Hubble mass as in conventional formation scenarios, while its number density is determined by the nucleation dynamics of the first-order phase transition. We present a detailed study of the formation probability including some analytical treatments. In addition, we generate populations in the open mass window as well as for the HSC and OGLE candidate microlensing events. This mechanism inevitably creates PBHs in generic first order phase transitions, with significant populations produced in slow and moderately strong phase transitions., Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures; references added, notation slightly revised in section 2

The intermediate mass black hole range, $10\lesssim M_{\rm BH}^{}/M_\odot^{}\lesssim 10^{5} $, has long offered enticing possibilities for primordial black holes (PBH), with populations in this range postulated to be responsible for some of the black hole binary merger detected events as well as the existence of supermassive black holes embedded at galactic centers. However, a prominent bound derived from PBH accretion during recombination severely restricts the mass fraction of intermediate mass PBH. We address this problem by proposing a formation scenario in which ``primordial" black holes form late in our cosmological history, beyond the CMB era, and bypassing this bound. During this crucial epoch, our population of compact objects exist as thermal balls supported by thermal pressure, which eventually cool to Fermi balls supported by degeneracy pressure and finally collapse to PBH. Our mechanism is a viable production method for both the mass gap LIGO-VIRGO-KAGRA detections and the JWST observation of an early time $z>10$ supermassive black hole. Furthermore, we present the remarkable possibility of PBH formation after the present era, which we term \textit{future} PBH. Such a population would evade most, if not all bounds on the PBH mass spectrum in the literature and open up previously unthought-of possibilities. Light future PBH could form below the Hawking evaporation threshold and convert the bulk of the matter in the Universe into radiation., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures

The validity of the Coleman mechanism, which automatically tunes the fundamental constants, is examined in two-dimensional and four-dimensional quantum gravity theories. First, we consider two-dimensional Euclidean quantum gravity on orientable closed manifolds coupled to conformal matter of central charge $c \leq1$. The proper time Hamiltonian of this system is known to be written as a field theory of noncritical strings, which can also be viewed as a third quantization in two dimensions. By directly counting the number of random surfaces with various topologies, we find that the contribution of the baby universes is too small to realize the Coleman mechanism. Next, we consider four-dimensional Lorentzian gravity. Based on the difference between the creation of the mother universe from nothing and the annihilation of the mother universe into nothing, we introduce a non-Hermitian effective Hamiltonian for the multiverse. We show that Coleman's idea is satisfied in this model and that the cosmological constant is tuned to be nearly zero. We investigate properties of the conserved charge in general relativity, recently proposed by one of the present authors with his collaborators, in the inflation era, the matter dominated era and the radiation dominated era of the expanding Universe. We show that the conserved charge in the inflation era becomes the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy for de Sitter space, and it becomes the matter entropy and the radiation entropy in the matter and radiation dominated eras, respectively, while the charge itself is always conserved. These properties are qualitatively confirmed by a numerical analysis of a model with a scalar field and radiations. We report a one-second-cadence wide-field survey for M-dwarf flares using the Tomo-e Gozen camera mounted on the Kiso Schmidt telescope. We detect 22 flares from M3-M5 dwarfs with rise times and amplitudes ranging from $5\, \mathrm{sec} \lesssim t_\mathrm{rise} \lesssim 100\,\mathrm{sec}$ and $0.5 \lesssim \Delta F/F_{\star} \lesssim 20$, respectively. The flare light curves mostly show steeper rises and shallower decays than those obtained from the Kepler one-minute cadence data and tend to have flat peak structures. Assuming a blackbody spectrum with temperatures of $9,000-15,000\,\mathrm{K}$, the peak luminosities and bolometric energies are estimated to be $10^{29}\,\mathrm{erg\,sec^{-1}} \lesssim L_\mathrm{peak} \lesssim 10^{31}\,\mathrm{erg\,sec^{-1}}$ and $10^{31}\,\mathrm{erg} \lesssim E_{\rm bol} \lesssim 10^{34}\,\mathrm{erg}$, which constitutes the bright end of fast optical flares for M dwarfs. We confirm that more than 90\% of the host stars of the detected flares are magnetically active based on their H$\alpha$ emission line intensities obtained by LAMOST. The estimated occurrence rate of the detected flares is $\sim 0.7$ per day per an active star, indicating they are common in magnetically active M dwarfs. We argue that the flare light curves can be explained by the chromospheric compression model; the rise time is broadly consistent with the Alfv\'en transit time of a magnetic loop with a length scale of $l_\mathrm{loop} \sim 10^4\,\mathrm{km}$ and a field strength of $1,000\,\mathrm{G}$, while the decay time is likely determined by the radiative cooling of the compressed chromosphere down to near the photosphere with a temperature of $\gtrsim 10,000\,\mathrm{K}$. False vacuum remnants in first-order phase transitions in the early Universe can form compact objects which may constitute dark matter. Such remnants form because particles develop large mass gaps between the two phases and become trapped in the old phase. We focus on remnants generated in a class of models with trapped dark sector particles, trace their development, and determine their ultimate fate. Depending on model and phase transition parameters, the evolutionary endpoint of these remnants can be primordial black holes, Fermi-balls, Q-balls, or thermal balls, and they all have the potential to constitute some portion or the whole of dark matter within a broad mass range. Notably, dark sector thermal balls can remain at high temperatures until the present day and are a new compact dark matter candidate which derives its energy from the thermal energy of internal particles instead of their mass or quantum pressure., Comment: 13 pages + appendix and references, 1 figure

We present Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array observations of multiple CO(1-0), $^{13}$CO(1-0), and C$^{18}$O(1-0) lines and 2.9 mm and 1.3 mm continuum emission toward the nearby interacting luminous infrared galaxy NGC 3110, supplemented with similar spatial resolution H$\alpha$, 1.4GHz continuum, and $K$-band data. We estimate the typical CO-to-H$_2$ conversion factor of 1.7 $M_{\odot}$ (K km s$^{-1}$ pc$^2$)$^{-1}$ within the disk using LTE-based and dust-based H$_2$ column densities, and measure the 1-kpc scale surface densities of star formation rate ($\Sigma_{\rm SFR}$), super star clusters ($\Sigma_{\rm SSC}$), molecular gas mass, and star formation efficiency (SFE) toward the entire gas disk. These parameters show a peak at the southern part of the southern spiral arm (SFE $\sim$ 10$^{-8.2}$ yr$^{-1}$, $\Sigma_{\rm SFR}$ $\sim$ 10$^{-0.6}$ $M_{\odot}$ kpc$^{-2}$ yr$^{-1}$, $\Sigma_{\rm SSC}$ $\sim$ 6.0 kpc$^{-2}$), which is likely attributed to the on-going tidal interaction with the companion galaxy MCG-01-26-013, as well as toward the circumnuclear region. We also find that thermal free-free emission contributes to a significant fraction of the millimeter continuum emission at the southern peak position. Those measurements imply that the peak of the southern arm is an active and young star-forming region, whereas the central part of NGC 3110 is a site of long-continued star formation. We suggest that, during the early stage of the galaxy-galaxy interaction with large mass ratio that in NGC 3110, fragmentation along the main galaxy's arms is an important driver of merger-induced star formation and massive gas inflow results in dusty nuclear starbursts., Comment: 17 pages, 9 figures, 2 tables, accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal
