Background: The aim of this study was to compare the outcomes, success rate, and complications of performing elective ureteroscopy at different times: <1 week from renal colic initiation (early) and more than 1 week from renal colic initiation (late) in patients with ureteral stone larger than 6 mm. Materials and Methods: This comparative observational study was conducted on 338 consecutive patients. Patients were evaluated in two groups: patients who underwent ureteroscopy in <1 week (A) and patients who underwent ureteroscopy in more than 1 week (B) from renal colic initiation. Helical unenhanced computed tomography was used to assess the size, location, and hardness of stone for all patients. Operation success was defined as complete clearance of stone with no stone residue (stone free) at 2-week postoperative ultrasonography with no need to further interventions. Operation data were collected using medical records, and postoperative complications were investigated at 2 weeks postoperative follow-up visits. Results: Group A included 165 patients and Group B included 173 patients. The overall mean stone size was 8.60 ± 1.12 mm: for Group A 9.13 ± 0.94 mm and for Group B 8.10 ± 1.04 mm (P < 0.001). Stone residues were found in 11 patients: 9 in Group A (5.4%) and 2 in Group B (1.1%) (P = 0.026). Nine patients needed repeated ureteroscopy: 8 (4.8%) in Group A and 1 (0.6%) in Group B (P = 0.015). A double-J stent was used for 85 (51.5%) patients in Group A and 66 (38.2%) patients in Group B (P = 0.016). Major intraoperative complications did not happen in any patients. Fifty-three (32.1%) patients in Group A and 28 (16.2%) patients in Group B suffered from postoperative complications (P = 0.001). Conclusion: Our study revealed that performing elective ureteroscopy with an interval of more than 1 week from the onset of renal colic in combination with medical treatments was associated with less need for double-J stent placement, less need for repeated ureteroscopy, and fewer postoperative complications compared to performing elective ureteroscopy in <1 week from the renal colic onset in nonemergent patients with ureteral stone larger than 6 mm. Although the rate of ureteroscopy failure was higher among the patients who underwent ureteroscopy in <1 week from their renal colic initiation, there was no statistically significant relationship between performing ureteroscopy in <1 week and an increased risk for ureteroscopy failure. This study aims to provide an open innovation model for hi-tech startups in the unit of industries related to information technology (IT). The research method of the present study is mixed and it is done with two types of qualitative and quantitative (mixed) approaches. In the qualitative part of the research, in order to collect data, interview questions were developed. In the following, the ISM questionnaire and the researcher-made questionnaire with a 5-point Likert scale were used. The statistical population in the qualitative and ISM sections consisted of 10 qualified experts who were selected using the purposeful and non-probability sampling method and in-depth and semi-structured interviews were conducted with them. The first step of the current study is to identify the main and sub-categories of the research by using the method of qualitative analysis of the theme (the approach of editing interviews, summarizing them and interpreting concepts and words). MAXQDA software was used for qualitative analysis. Then, in the second and quantitative part of the research, the structural-interpretive modeling method and MICMAC software were used to identify the causal relationships between the main categories of the research. In total, the pattern obtained consists of 10 main themes. The results showed that the strategic management of open innovation, investment and financing, and information technology infrastructure affect technology development in services and products and innovative leadership. Innovative leadership and technology development have an effect on knowledge management and human resource empowerment and lead to the participation of startups in open innovation and improving competence of startups. Process control room operators (PCRO) perform a range of complex cognitive safety-critical tasks. The aim of this exploratory sequential mixed methods study was to develop an occupation specific tool to measure the task load of PCRO using NASA Task Load Index (TLX) methodology. Participants were 30 human factors experts and 146 PCRO at two refinery complexes in Iran. Dimensions were developed via a cognitive task analysis, a research review, and three expert panels. Six dimensions were identified: perceptual demand, performance, mental demand, time pressure, effort, and stress. Data from 120 PCRO confirmed that the developed PCRO-TLX has acceptable psychometric properties, and a comparison with the NASA-TLX confirmed that perceptual, not physical, demand was relevant for measuring workload in PCRO. There was a positive convergence of scores of the Subjective Workload Assessment Technique and the PCRO-TLX. This reliable tool (α = 0.83) is recommended for risk assessing the task load of PCRO. Practitioner summary: There are benefits of having a specific tool to measure task load in safety critical roles. Thus, we developed and validated an easy-to-use targeted tool, the PCRO-TLX, for process control room operatives. Timely use and response will assure optimal production alongside health and safety in an organisation. Abstract This study investigated the effects of the target size and movement distance on user performance and workload in a virtual reality (VR) environment. In a repeated-measures laboratory study, 36 participants (18 male and 18 female) performed the drag-and-drop task as a standard human–computer interaction (HCI) task with different target sizes (1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3 cm) and movement distances (5, 9, 13, 17, and 20 cm). Task completion time (TCT), error rate, and movement time (MT) were measured as performance indices, whereas physical load and effort were assessed as workload indices. The results demonstrated that the target size and movement distance significantly affected all performance measures and workload indices. Large target sizes produced better performance and lower workloads; however, large movement distances decreased performance and increased workload. However, sex had no significant effect on the performance or workload during the drag-and-drop tasks. The best target sizes were 2.5 and 3 cm, and the worst size was 1 cm. The best movement distances were 5 and 9 cm, and the worst distance was 20 cm. The results of this study can provide useful reference information for developing VR technology based on human factors and demonstrate that additional basic research is required to reflect the distinctive features of VR in the future. The present study, an expert review, aimed to discuss the emerging challenges of overcoming COVID-19 from the perspective of human factors and the importance of cognitive ergonomics in helping to cope with the epidemic. Identifying these challenges and the use of cognitive ergonomics to optimize human well-being and system performance can be effective in managing COVID-19. Generally, two main preventive approaches such as social distancing and patient care or treatment approaches are being utilized in response to COVID-19. In this paper, human factors challenges that could emerge from covid-19 preventive approaches were discussed. Social distancing forces presence and increases automated systems that lead to increases in cognitive needs, mental workload, stress, etc. Challenges of treatment and health care include the increased workload of healthcare personnel, stress, changing work systems and task allocation that led to fatigue and stress, threats to patient safety, and disruption of interpersonal interactions from a cognitive ergonomic perspective. It is concluded that the challenges of coping with COVID-19 were numerous and important from the perspective of human factors and the role of cognitive ergonomics is important in controlling the disease; hence, it should be taken into consideration. In this paper, a new fast algorithm for path planning and a collision prediction framework for two dimensional dynamically changing environments are introduced. The method is called Time Distance (TD) and benefits from the space-time space idea. First, the TD concept is defined as the time interval that must be spent in order for an object to reach another object or a location. Next, TD functions are derived as a function of location, velocity and geometry of objects. To construct the configuration-time space, TD functions in conjunction with another function named "Z-Infinity" are exploited. Finally, an explicit formula for creating the length optimal collision free path is presented. Length optimization in this formula is achieved using a function named "Route Function" which minimizes a cost function. Performance of the path planning algorithm is evaluated in simulations. Comparisons indicate that the algorithm is fast enough and capable to generate length optimal paths as the most effective methods do. Finally, as another usage of the TD functions, a collision prediction framework is presented. This framework consists of an explicit function which is a function of TD functions and calculates the TD of the vehicle with respect to all objects of the environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract A variety of human factors/ergonomics (HFE) problems have been studied by researchers and developers in VR environments. This systematic review aimed to summarize important HFE issues and classify the validated instruments used to quantify them in virtual reality environments. The most representative electronic databases for this review (2013–2022) were searched for original articles. The results showed that aspects, such as cybersickness, visual fatigue, mental workload, performance, spatial presence, and usability were the most relevant HFE issues assessed, whereas some aspects, such as physical workload, posture, stress, and discomfort, were consider less often. Previous studies have neglected some human factors and ergonomic issues, such as physical ergonomics, stress, and aftereffects, such as fatigue and human error. In virtual environments, presence was an emerging human factor compared to real environments. Most techniques were unidimensional and subjective. Future studies should focus on more factors and risks associated with HFE by emphasizing objective techniques and multidimensional subjective methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
