Abstract Body core temperature is an important physiological indicator for self-health management and medical diagnosis. However, existing devices always fails to achieve continuous monitoring of core body temperature due to their invasive or motion-restricted measurement principles. Here, a wearable flexible device which can continuously monitor the core body temperature was developed. The flexible device integrated with fourteen temperature sensors and one thermal conductivity sensor on the polydimethylsiloxane substrate can be conformally attached to the human skin. With the wearable data processing module and wireless communication module, the continuous monitoring of the core body temperature for 24 h and the portable monitoring of the skin thermal conductivity were realized using this device. Owing to the annular distribution design of the temperature sensor and the directional heat transfer design of the thermal conductivity sensor, this device is comparable in accuracy and stability compared to standard instruments that require invasive or motion-restricted measurements.

Abstract Neurotoxic effects of general anesthetics, particularly sevoflurane, on pediatric neurodevelopment are a global concern. This study investigated the molecular and metabolic impacts of repeated short exposures to sevoflurane in neonatal rats. Metabolomics analysis revealed significant changes in fatty acid and mitochondrial energy metabolism. Transcriptomic analysis identified altered gene expression related to neurodevelopment and mitochondrial function. Various analyses emphasized upregulation in oxidative phosphorylation and DNA repair pathways. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) identified key gene modules associated with sevoflurane exposure. Despite these acute changes, no significant long-term memory impairments were detected. These findings highlight the impact of sevoflurane on mitochondrial energy metabolism, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation, emphasizing its relevance to pediatric neurodevelopment. The absence of substantial long-term memory impairments provides insights into the safety and implications of sevoflurane use in pediatric anesthesia, calling for further research.

Cadmium (Cd) is a prevalent environmental pollutant in agricultural ecosystems, particularly within paddy ecosystems, is readily absorbed by rice and enter herbivorous insects through the food chain, thereby influencing the implementation of integrated pest management strategies. However, the effect and mechanisms of Cd exposure on the sensitivity of pests in paddy to insecticides remain unclear. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of Cd exposure on the fitness, insecticide sensitivity and symbiotic bacteria of Sogatella furcifera (Horváth) (white-backed planthopper, WBPH). Cd exposure did not affect the population growth of WBPH but significantly increased the sensitivity to three insecticides, nitenpyram, dinotefuran and etofenprox. Furthermore, Cd exposure reduced the diversity of symbiotic bacteria in WBPH, particularly decreasing the relative abundance of Acinetobacter, Klebsiella, Chryseobacterium and Pantoea, which were positively correlated with the survival rate of WBPH after Cd exposure and pesticide treatment. This indicates that Cd exposure may enhance insecticide sensitivity by disrupting the symbiotic bacteria equilibrium within WBPH. This study provides new insights into the symbiotic bacteria mediated increase in insecticide sensitivity due to heavy metal exposure, providing a foundation for utilizing compounds that disturb symbiotic bacteria balance in pest for pest control.

Abstract Surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has been applied in many fields due to its advantages of fast and nondestructive detection. For semiconductors, the large‐scale electron‐hole pair separation of heterojunction is conducive to efficient charge transfer, which is a promising SERS substrate. Here, we designed a Fe2O3@CeO2 heterojunction substrate by hydrothermal method and explored its enhancement mechanism in detail. α‐Fe2O3 is a promising semiconductor with a narrow bandgap, and CeO2 has adequate oxygen vacancies on the surface. Combing α‐Fe2O3 and CeO2 into a shell‐core structure, Fe2O3@CeO2 heterojunction presents higher SERS performance than pure Fe2O3 and CeO2 for methyl orange (MO) molecule with a limit of detection (LOD) of 5 × 10−8 mol/L. Under the excitation of 514 nm, Fe2O3 can produce an effective exciton resonance due to its narrow bandgap (2.01 eV). The oxygen vacancy in CeO2 acts as the active site to promote the adsorption of molecules and facilitate the photo‐induced charge transfer (PICT) between the substrate and MO molecules. Therefore, the high SERS performance of Fe2O3@CeO2 heterojunction is achieved due to the coupling effect of excitons resonance, molecular resonance, and PICT resonance. It is found that Fe2O3@CeO2 has good SERS performance and stability to organic pesticides, especially metamitron (LOD = 5 × 10−9 mol/L). This work combines the advantages of Fe2O3 being prone to producing photoelectrons and abundant oxygen vacancies of CeO2, providing a reference for designing semiconductor SERS.

According to the infrared patch image (IPI) model theory, the infrared image background has a low rank and the target is sparse. The low-rank model can be used to separate the background and identify the target. However, in a noisy environment, the recognition effect will be affected. The higher the noise, the harder it would be to detect a small target. The residual strong fault and background edges could reduce the detection rate and increase false alarms. The traditional IPI model is adaptable to the background with the lower noise. This paper combines weighted nuclear norm minimization (WNNM) optimization with sparse representation based on the local IPI model. The background details are described more prominently by improving the nuclear norm weighting factor. The target is much easier to detect under the specific bright clouds and ground buildings background with high noise. At the same time, post-processing with image local contrast analysis is performed to compare traditional spatial filtering and local infrared patch image model algorithms. Our method has a good suppression effect on complex noise backgrounds and achieves a higher signal to clutter ratio gain (SCRG). It could also improve the target detection rate and reduce false alarms.

In assisted reproduction techniques, oocytes encounter elevated levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) during in vitro maturation (IVM). Oxidative stress adversely affects oocyte quality, hampering their maturation, growth, and subsequent development. Thus, mitigating excessive ROS to safeguard less viable oocytes during IVM stands as a viable strategy. Numerous antioxidants have been explored for oocyte IVM, yielding considerable effects; however, several aspects, including solubility, stability, and safety, demand attention and resolution. In this study, we developed nanoparticles by self-assembling endogenous bilirubin and melatonin hormone coated with bilirubin-conjugated glycol chitosan (MB@GBn) to alleviate oxidative stress and enhance oocyte maturation. The optimized MB@GBn exhibited a uniform spherical shape, measuring 128 nm in particle size, with a PDI value of 0.1807 and a surface potential of +11.35 mV. The positively charged potential facilitated nanoparticle adherence to the oocyte surface through electrostatic interaction, allowing for functional action. In vitro studies demonstrated that MB@GB significantly enhanced the maturation of compromised oocytes. Further investigation revealed MB@GB's effectiveness in scavenging ROS, reducing intracellular calcium levels, and suppressing mitochondrial polarization. This study not only offers a novel perspective on nano drug delivery systems for biomedical applications but also presents an innovative strategy for enhancing oocyte IVM.

Abstract Objective About 10% of patients after cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) would undergo acute liver injury, which aggravated the mortality of patients. Ac2-26 has been demonstrated to ameliorate organic injury by inhibiting inflammation. The present study aims to evaluate the effect and mechanism of Ac2-26 on acute liver injury after CPB. Methods A total of 32 SD rats were randomized into sham, CPB, Ac, and Ac/AKT1 groups. The rats only received anesthesia, and rats in other groups received CPB. The rats in Ac/AKT1 were pre-injected with the shRNA to interfere with the expression of AKT1. The rats in CPB were injected with saline, and rats in Ac and Ac/AKT1 groups were injected with Ac2-26. After 12 h of CPB, all the rats were sacrificed and the peripheral blood and liver samples were collected to analyze. The inflammatory factors in serum and liver were detected. The liver function was tested, and the pathological injury of liver tissue was evaluated. Results Compared with the sham group, the inflammatory factors, liver function, and pathological injury were worsened after CPB. Compared with the CPB group, the Ac2-26 significantly decreased the pro-inflammatory factors and increased the anti-inflammatory factor, improved liver function, and ameliorated the pathological injury. All the therapeutic effects of Ac2-26 were notably attenuated by the shRNA of AKT1. The Ac2-26 increased the GSK3β and eNOS, and this promotion was inhibited by the shRNA. Conclusion The Ac2-26 significantly treated the liver injury, inhibited inflammation, and improved liver function. The effect of Ac2-26 on liver injury induced by CPB was partly associated with the promotion of AKT1/GSK3β/eNOS.

Chronic non-healing wounds induced by oxidative stress and inflammation can activate inflammatory cells and produce large amounts of inflammatory mediators, which fail to maintain homeostasis in the skin and delay the wound-healing process. To tackle this issue, heparin-loaded hierarchical composite scaffolds comprised of electrospun fibers and electrosprayed microspheres were prepared to act as an effective anti-inflammatory wound dressing. Microspheres with different electrosprayed densities were deposited into the surface of the electrospun fibers for the improvement of surface topographical cues and cellular activities. The results indicated that the electrospun fibers followed by electrosprayed for 3 ​min to fabricate the composite fiber/microsphere scaffolds contributed to the best performance in terms of promoting cellular activities, with no obvious cytotoxicity, good adhesion morphology, and the fastest cell migration rate. In addition, a suitable amount of heparin was added to the composite scaffolds to alleviate inflammation. The significant adsorption efficiency of heparin-loaded composite scaffolds on inflammatory mediator MCP-1 indicates a favorable anti-inflammation effect in vitro. Furthermore, the heparin-loaded hierarchical scaffolds accelerated the pace of inflammatory wound healing in vivo when compared to commercial 3 ​M Tegaderm and non-heparin-loaded scaffolds. Our work provided a facile strategy for fabricating heparin-loaded hierarchical fiber/microsphere scaffolds to modulate cellular activities via topographical cues and accelerating the inflammatory wound healing process by electrostatic interactions between heparin and MCP-1. These findings suggested that the heparin-loaded hierarchical scaffold was expected to be a promising dressing for inflammatory wound healing.

Abstract Background Post-anesthetic emergence agitation is common after general anesthesia and may cause adverse consequences, such as injury as well as respiratory and circulatory complications. Emergence agitation after general anesthesia occurs more frequently in nasal surgery than in other surgical procedures. This study aimed to assess the occurrence of emergence agitation in patients undergoing nasal surgery who were extubated under deep anesthesia or when fully awake. Methods A total of 202 patients (18–60 years, American Society of Anesthesiologists classification: I–II) undergoing nasal surgery under general anesthesia were randomized 1:1 into two groups: a deep extubation group (group D) and an awake extubation group (group A). The primary outcome was the incidence of emergence agitation. The secondary outcomes included number of emergence agitations, sedation score, vital signs, and incidence of adverse events. Abstract Background Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) results in brain injury, which is primarily caused by inflammation. Ac2-26 protects against ischemic or hemorrhage brain injury. The present study was to explore the effect and mechanism of Ac2-26 on brain injury in CPB rats. Methods Forty-eight rats were randomized into sham, CPB, Ac, Ac/AKT1, Ac/GSK3βi and Ac/AKT1/GSK3βa groups. Rats in sham group only received anesthesia and in the other groups received standard CPB surgery. Rats in the sham and CPB groups received saline, and rats in the Ac, Ac/AKT1, Ac/GSK3βi and Ac/AKT1/GSK3βa groups received Ac2-26 immediately after CPB. Rats in the Ac/AKT1, Ac/GSK3βi and Ac/AKT1/GSK3βa groups were injected with shRNA, inhibitor and agonist of GSK3β respectively. The neurological function score, brain edema and histological score were evaluated. The neuronal survival and hippocampal pyroptosis were assessed. The cytokines, activity of NF-κB, S100 calcium-binding protein β(S100β) and neuron-specific enolase (NSE), and oxidative were tested. The NLRP3, cleaved-caspase-1 and cleaved-gadermin D (GSDMD) in the brain were also detected. Results Compared to the sham group, all indicators were aggravated in rats that underwent CPB. Compared to the CPB group, Ac2-26 significantly improved neurological scores and brain edema and ameliorated pathological injury. Ac2-26 reduced the local and systemic inflammation, oxidative stress response and promoted neuronal survival. Ac2-26 reduced hippocampal pyroptosis and decreased pyroptotic proteins in brain tissue. The protection of Ac2-26 was notably lessened by shRNA and inhibitor of GSK3β. The agonist of GSK3β recovered the protection of Ac2-26 in presence of shRNA. Conclusions Ac2-26 significantly improved neurological function, reduced brain injury via regulating inflammation, oxidative stress response and pyroptosis after CPB. The protective effect of Ac2-26 primarily depended on AKT1/ GSK3β pathway.

Accurate forecasting of solar power output and load demand is critical for the efficient operation and management of isolated microgrids, where reliability and sustainability are paramount. Traditional methods often struggle with data scarcity, limitations in capturing intricate temporal dynamics, and lack of scalability. This research introduces a novel multi-task learning (MTL) model, the Self-Aware Quantized Multi-Task ConvLSTM (SAQ-MTCLSTM), which addresses these challenges by jointly forecasting solar power and load demand while leveraging shared representations across these interdependent time series. The SAQ-MTCLSTM incorporates a sophisticated architecture that combines convolutional and LSTM layers with self-aware quantization to enhance computational efficiency and model adaptability. This allows for effective knowledge transfer, improved data utilization, and the capture of intricate temporal patterns. Evaluated on a real-world isolated microgrid dataset from the Micro Reseau Mafate research project, the model demonstrates significant improvements in forecasting accuracy, with MSE values of 0.0021 for solar power output and 0.0037 for load demand forecasting, compared to single-task and other advanced models. Extensive experiments highlight the impact of data scarcity, seasonality patterns, and microgrid topology on forecasting performance. Such forecasting is essential to optimize the integration and utilization of renewable resources, enhancing operational stability and reducing dependency on external energy supplies.

Objective To investigate the signature genes of fatty acid metabolism and their association with immune cells in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Methods Fatty acid metabolism-related genes were obtained from the GeneCards database. In this retrospective study, a PAH-related dataset was downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database and analyzed to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) and machine learning algorithms, including least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and random forest, were used to identify the signature genes. Diagnostic efficiency was assessed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and a nomogram. Immune cell infiltration was subsequently classified using CIBERSORT. Results In total, 817 DEGs were screened from the GSE33463 dataset. The data were clustered into six modules via WGCNA, and the MEdarkred module was significantly related to PAH. The LASSO and random forest algorithms identified five signature genes: ARV1, KCNJ2, PEX11B, PITPNC1 , and SCO1 . The areas under the ROC curves of these signature genes were 0.917, 0.934, 0.947, 0.963, and 0.940, respectively. CIBERSORT suggested these signature genes may participate in immune cell infiltration. Conclusions ARV1, KCNJ2, PEX11B, PITPNC1 , and SCO1 show remarkable diagnostic performance in PAH and are involved in immune cell infiltration.

Studying the response of runoff to climate change and land use/cover change has guiding significance for watershed land planning, water resource planning, and ecological environment protection. Especially in the Yellow River Basin, which has a variable climate and fragile ecology, such research is more important. This article takes the Huangfuchuan River Basin (HFCRB) in the middle reaches of the Yellow River as the research area, and analyzes the impact of climate change scenarios and land use/cover change scenarios on runoff by constructing a SWAT model. Using CMIP6 GCMs to obtain future climate data and the CA–Markov model to predict future land use data, the two are coupled to estimate the future runoff process in the HFCRB, and the uncertainty of the estimated runoff is decomposed and quantified. The results were as follows: ① The SWAT model has good adaptability in the HFCRB. During the calibrated period and the validation period, R2 ≥ 0.84, NSE ≥ 0.8, and |PBIAS| ≤ 17.5%, all of which meet the model evaluation criteria. ② There is a negative correlation between temperature and runoff, and a positive correlation between precipitation and runoff. Runoff is more sensitive to temperature rise and precipitation increase. ③ The impact of land use types on runoff is in the order of cultivated land > grassland > forest land. ④ The variation range of runoff under the combined effects of future climate change and LUCC is between that of single climate change or LUCC scenarios. The increase in runoff under SSP126, SSP245, and SSP585 scenarios is 10.57%, 25.55%, and 31.28%, respectively. Precipitation is the main factor affecting the future runoff changes in the HFCRB. Model uncertainty is the main source of uncertainty in runoff prediction.

Spectral imaging technique has been widely applied in plant phenotype analysis to improve plant trait selection and genetic advantages. The latest developments and applications of various optical imaging techniques in plant phenotypes were reviewed, and their advantages and applicability were compared. X-ray computed tomography (X-ray CT) and light detection and ranging (LiDAR) are more suitable for the three-dimensional reconstruction of plant surfaces, tissues, and organs. Chlorophyll fluorescence imaging (ChlF) and thermal imaging (TI) can be used to measure the physiological phenotype characteristics of plants. Specific symptoms caused by nutrient deficiency can be detected by hyperspectral and multispectral imaging, LiDAR, and ChlF. Future plant phenotype research based on spectral imaging can be more closely integrated with plant physiological processes. It can more effectively support the research in related disciplines, such as metabolomics and genomics, and focus on micro-scale activities, such as oxygen transport and intercellular chlorophyll transmission.

Abstract Objective To explore the functional connectivity (FC) characteristics of the episodic memory network (EMN) in amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) patients with different levels of executive function (EF). Methods This study included 76 participants from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative database, comprising 23 healthy controls (HCs) and 53 aMCI patients. Based on EF levels, aMCI patients were categorized into aMCI‐highEF and aMCI‐lowEF groups. Cognitive function scores, pathological markers (cerebrospinal fluid β‐amyloid, total tau protein, phosphorylated tau protein, AV45‐PET, and FDG‐PET), and functional magnetic resonance imaging were collected and compared among the three groups. Seed‐based FC analysis was used to examine differences in the EMN among the groups, and partial correlation analysis was employed to investigate the relationship between changes in FC and cognitive function scores as well as pathological markers. Results Compared to the aMCI‐highEF group, the aMCI‐lowEF group exhibited more severe cognitive impairment, decreased cerebral glucose metabolism, and elevated AV45 levels. Significant FC differences in the left superior temporal gyrus (STG) of the EMN were observed among the three groups. Post hoc analysis revealed that the aMCI‐lowEF group had increased FC in the left STG compared to the HCs and aMCI‐highEF groups, with statistically significant differences. Correlation analysis showed a significant negative correlation between the differences in FC in the left STG of aMCI‐highEF and aMCI‐lowEF groups and Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test forgetting scores. Receiver operator characteristic curve analysis indicated an area under the curve of 0.741 for distinguishing between aMCI‐highEF and aMCI‐lowEF groups based on FC of left STG, with a sensitivity of 0.808 and a specificity of 0.667. Conclusion aMCI‐lowEF exhibits characteristic changes in FC within the EMN, providing theoretical support for the role of EF in mediating EMN alterations and, consequently, impacting episodic memory function.

The structure of a submersible permanent magnet tubular linear motor (SPPMTLM) can significantly affect its load spectrum. However, the existing models do not account for this effect. This study proposes an advanced SPPMTLM model that incorporates these considerations, offering enhanced accuracy and practicality. First, a dynamic sub-model of the SPPMTLM was developed to elucidate the dynamic load spectrum during one working cycle. Subsequently, a one-dimensional analytical sub-model and a lumped-parameter thermal network sub-model of the SPPMTLM were established to calculate the electromagnetic and thermal performance. The proposed model utilizes the Newton-Raphson method to address the nonlinear equations derived from the integration of the three constituent sub-models. This approach enables a detailed analysis of the coupling relationships among the stress, fluid, thermal, and electromagnetic fields. Based on the proposed model, the impacts of the motor structural parameters, materials, and operating conditions on the electricity consumption per ton of fluid were analyzed. Furthermore, the particle swarm optimization algorithm was applied to the proposed model to optimize the SPPMTLM performance under different well fluid supply capacities. Finally, prototype and field experimental validations are conducted to verify the accuracy and practicality of the proposed method.

Abstract This meta‐analysis evaluated the potential association of a simultaneously measured inter‐arm systolic blood pressure difference (IASBPD) and all‐cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality. The Medline, Cochrane Library, Embase, and PubMed databases were searched through to April 14, 2023 for relevant literature. The outcomes were the associations of IASBPD with all‐cause and cardiovascular mortality. Finally, 10 cohort studies that included 15 320 individuals were included. An IASBPD of ≥15 mm Hg was associated with increased all‐cause mortality (pooled hazard ratio [HR] 1.28, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.02–1.61) but an IASBPD of ≥10 mm Hg was not (pooled HR 1.28, 95% CI 0.89–1.85). The pooled HR for cardiovascular mortality was 1.88 (95% CI 1.31–2.71) for an IASBPD of ≥10 mm Hg and 1.93 (95% CI 1.24–2.99) for an IASBPD of ≥15 mm Hg. Subgroup analysis showed that younger patients (HR 9.03, 95% CI 2.00–40.82, p = .004) with an IASBPD ≥15 mm Hg were at higher risk of cardiovascular mortality than older patients (HR 1.67, 95% CI 1.06–2.64, p = .03); the difference between groups was statistically significant (p = .04). In conclusions, our findings show that a simultaneously measured IASBPD ≥15 mm Hg predicts increased all‐cause mortality and an IASBPD of ≥15 mm Hg or ≥10 mm Hg predicts increased cardiovascular mortality. An IASBPD ≥15 mm Hg appears to be more correlated with cardiovascular mortality in younger patients than in older patients.

ObjectiveTo explore the associations of body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), and waist to height ratio (WHtR) with dyslipidemia among adult residents in Shaanxi province for developing relevant intervention strategies. Methods Using stratified multistage random cluster sampling, we recruited 6 202 urban and rural permanent residents aged 18 years and above in 10 regions covered by national surveillance on chronic diseases and risk factors in Shaanxi province. Face-to-face interview with the questionnaire for China Adult Chronic Disease and Nutrition Surveillance – 2018, physical examination, and laboratory detections were conducted among the participants during May – November, 2018. Partial correlation analysis and unconditional multivariate logistic regression were adopted in analyses on the correlations of BMI, WC, and WHtR with the risk of dyslipidemia. ResultsDyslipidemia were detected in 1 994 (33.04%) of the 6 036 participants completing the survey. Laboratory detections revealed following results: (1) the mean levels (mmol/L) of the participants with underweight or normal weight/overweight/obesity were 4.56 ± 0.89/4.75 ± 0.95/4.79 ± 0.90 for total cholesterol (TC), 1.42 ± 0.99/1.80 ± 1.24/2.14 ± 1.39 for triglyceride (TG); 2.61 ± 0.78/2.79 ± 0.82/2.79 ± 0.81 for low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and 1.45 ± 0.37/1.28 ± 0.32/1.17 ± 0.30 for high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C); (2) the mean levels (mmol/L) of the participants with normal WC/mild central obesity/severe central obesity were 4.52 ± 0.90/4.73 ± 0.89/4.83 ± 0.98 for TC, 1.36 ± 0.96/1.76 ± 1.05/2.08 ± 1.57 for TG, 2.59 ± 0.77/ 2.77 ± 0.79/2.82 ± 0.86 for LDL-C, and 1.46 ± 0.37/1.31 ± 0.33/1.21 ± 0.31 for HDL-C; and (3) the mean levels (mmol/L) of the participants with normal WHtR/obesity were 4.46 ± 0.88/4.76 ± 0.92 for TC, 1.32 ± 0.95/1.83 ± 1.24 for TG, 2.55 ± 0.76/2.78 ± 0.81 for LDL-C, and 1.46 ± 0.37/ 1.29 ± 0.34 for HDL-C, respectively. There were significant differences in levels of TC, TG, HDL-C, and HDL-C among the participants with different BMI, WC, and WHtR (all P < 0.001). Partial correlation analysis showed that BMI, WC, and WHtR were correlated positively with TC, TG and LDL-C but negatively with HDL-C (all P < 0.001). After adjusting for gender, age, education, annual household income per capita, place of residence, smoking, and alcohol drinking, the results of multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that the participants with overweight and obesity were at significantly higher risk of dyslipidemia, with the odds ratio (OR) (95% confidence interval [95%CI]) of 1.58 (1.36 – 1.82) and 2.22 (1.79 – 2.74) compared to the participants with underweight/normal weight; the results also showed that the risk of dyslipidemia was significantly higher for the participants with mild central obesity (OR = 1.49, 95%CI: 1.23 – 1.81) and severe central obesity (OR = 2.25, 95%CI: 1.79 – 2.83) in comparison with the participants with normal body weight; the dyslipidemia risk was significantly higher (OR = 1.39, 95%CI: 1.13 – 1.70) for the participants with the WHtR indicating obesity contrasting to the participants with normal WHtR. ConclusionThe prevalence of dyslipidemia was high among adult residents in Shaanxi province; the dyslipidemia prevalence was closely correlated with BMI, WC, and WHtR and increased with obese conditions.

Abstract Background Immune cell heterogenicity is known to determine the therapeutic response to cancer progression. Neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy (NACI) has shown clinical benefits in some patients with advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), but the underlying mechanism behind this clinical response is unknown. The efficacy of NACI needs to be potentiated by identifying accurate biomarkers to predict clinical responses. Here, we attempted to identify molecules predicting NACI response in advanced HNSCC. Methods We performed combined single‐cell RNA sequencing (scRNA‐seq) and multiplex immunofluorescence (mIHC) staining with tumor samples derived from NACI‐treated HNSCC patients to identify a new tumor‐infiltrating cell (TIL) subtype, CD103+CD8+ TILs, associated with clinical response, while both in vitro and in vivo assays were carried out to determine its antitumor efficiency. The regulatory mechanism of the CD103+CD8+ TILs population was examined by performing cell‐cell interaction analysis of the scRNA‐seq data and spatial analysis of the mIHC images. Results We established intratumoral CD103+CD8+ TILs density as a determinant of NACI efficacy in cancers. Our scRNA‐seq results indicated that the population of CD103+CD8+ TILs was dramatically increased in the responders of NACI‐treated HNSCC patients, while mIHC analysis confirmed the correlation between intratumoral CD103+CD8+ TILs density and NACI efficacy in HNSCC patients. Further receiver operating characteristic curve analysis defined this TIL subset as a potent marker to predict patient response to NACI. Functional assays showed that CD103+CD8+ TILs were tumor‐reactive T cells, while programmed cell death protein‐1 (PD‐1) blockade enhanced CD103+CD8+ TILs cytotoxicity against tumor growth in vivo. Mechanistically, targeting the triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2‐positive (TREM2+) macrophages might enhance the population of CD103+CD8+ TILs and facilitate antitumor immunity during NACI treatment. Conclusions Our study highlights the impact of intratumoral CD103+CD8+ TILs density on NACI efficacy in different cancers, while the efforts to elevate its population warrant further clinical investigation.

Abstract A series of high‐performance linear and cross‐linked polyimide (PI) aerogels with different molecular structures have been successfully synthesised using the freeze‐drying process. In this study, the comprehensive regulation of microstructure, thermodynamic, thermal insulation and dielectric properties of PI aerogels are achieved by controlling the rigid/flexible structure and composition of polymerised monomers. The increase in rigidity of PI molecular structure could promote the formation of denser pores, which is beneficial to improve the thermodynamic and thermal insulation properties of aerogels. Notably, the cross‐linked PI aerogel prepared by introducing cross‐linking agent (tris(4‐aminophenyl) amine, [TPA]) into linear PI exhibits high thermal stability (Td5% > 560°C), excellent ultralow permittivity (εr = 1.31, f = 106 Hz) and good thermal insulation property (k = 0.056 W/m · K). This innovative strategy promotes the wider application of the cross‐linked polyimide aerogel in the field of integrated circuits and aerospace exploration.

Background: The experiences, physical and mental health and needs of women with breast cancer have been studied in some detail, but there is a lack of discussion of the experiences of stakeholder groups such as men with breast cancer, partners and carers and healthcare professionals. The aim of this study was to explore and understand the experiences and perceptions of male breast cancer stakeholders from diagnosis through to survivorship. Methods: We conducted a thematic review of qualitative studies included in a large published scoping review on male breast cancer (reported under the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses for Scoping Reviews extension). To be included in a qualitative evidence review, studies had to use qualitative methods for data collection and analysis to capture the perspectives of men with breast cancer, partners or caregivers, and healthcare workers. Key characteristics and findings were extracted and a conceptual coding framework was summarized using thematic analysis. Results: Out of a total of 310 studies in the research literature (published research articles and gray literature), 15 studies met the inclusion criteria. These studies reported on the experiences of men with breast cancer, partners or caregivers, and healthcare workers, with participant numbers ranging from 2 to 31. A total of 17 descriptive themes (study outcomes) were identified. From these, four high-level analytic themes emerged: (1) Predicament; (2) Emotion; (3) Support; (4) Coping. Conclusions: The gender stigma that exists at the patient, healthcare system, and family-society levels largely influences the experiences of the male breast cancer stakeholder population. To address gender inequalities in breast cancer care, healthcare organizations and society at large should remain equally attentive to the needs of male and female breast cancer patients. These needs include reducing healthcare and social stigma, providing gender-specific information and emotional support, and access to support groups.

IntroductionWe aim to predict the pathological complete response (pCR) of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in breast cancer patients by constructing a Nomogram based on radiomics models, clinicopathological features, and ultrasound features.MethodsUltrasound images of 464 breast cancer patients undergoing NAC were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were further divided into the training cohort and the validation cohort. The radiomics signatures (RS) before NAC treatment (RS1), after 2 cycles of NAC (RS2), and the different signatures between RS2 and RS1 (Delta-RS/RS1) were obtained. LASSO regression and random forest analysis were used for feature screening and model development, respectively. The independent predictors of pCR were screened from clinicopathological features, ultrasound features, and radiomics models by using univariate and multivariate analysis. The Nomogram model was constructed based on the optimal radiomics model and clinicopathological and ultrasound features. The predictive performance was evaluated with the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve.ResultsWe found that RS2 had better predictive performance for pCR. In the validation cohort, the area under the ROC curve was 0.817 (95%CI: 0.734-0.900), which was higher than RS1 and Delta-RS/RS1. The Nomogram based on clinicopathological features, ultrasound features, and RS2 could accurately predict the pCR value, and had the area under the ROC curve of 0.897 (95%CI: 0.866-0.929) in the validation cohort. The decision curve analysis showed that the Nomogram model had certain clinical practical value.DiscussionThe Nomogram based on radiomics signatures after two cycles of NAC, and clinicopathological and ultrasound features have good performance in predicting the NAC efficacy of breast cancer.

Introduction Breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) is a common postoperative complication of breast cancer. It develops in a chronic and vicious cycle. Once lymphedema occurs, it cannot be cured and bring serious physiological, psychological, social and economic burden to patients. Upper limb functional exercises are an effective and convenient intervention for managing lymphedema. However, the optimal exercise sequence remains unclear. Therefore, we aim to compare the effects of exercise sequences under the guidance of commonly used exercise sequences and lymphatic flow theory.Methods An exploratory randomised controlled cross-over trial will be conducted. 32 patients with BCRL are randomly allocated into two groups (group A and group B). Group A patients will perform functional exercise from wrist joint to shoulder joint, and the exercise direction of group B is opposite to that of group A, that is, from shoulder joint to wrist joint end. Exercise time is once a day, each 20–30 min, for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks of washout period, A and B groups of exchange exercise sequences (exercise frequency and duration unchanged). The primary outcome is upper limb circumference, and secondary outcomes are upper limb function and lymphedema symptoms.Ethics and dissemination This study protocol is presented in accordance with the Standard Protocol Items: Recommendations for Interventional Trials guidelines. All participants will sign a written informed consent. The research ethics regional committee of Shanghai Seventh People’s Hospital has approved the study. Regardless of the outcome of this study, the results will be published in open-access journals to ensure public access.Trial registration number ChiCTR2200066463.

Summary: Hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension (HPH) is a fatal cardiovascular disease characterized by an elevation in pulmonary artery pressure, resulting in right ventricular dysfunction and eventual heart failure. Exploring the pathogenesis of HPH is crucial, and small noncoding RNAs (sncRNAs) are gaining recognition as potential regulators of cellular responses to hypoxia. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of sncRNA profiles in eight tissues of male HPH rats using high-throughput sequencing. Our study unveiled several sncRNAs, with the brain, kidney, and spleen exhibiting the highest abundance of microRNA (miRNA), tRNA-derived small RNA (tDR), and small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA), respectively. Moreover, we identified numerous tissue-specific and hypoxia-responsive sncRNAs, particularly miRNAs and tDRs. Interestingly, we observed arm switching in miRNAs under hypoxic conditions and a significant increase in the abundance of 5′ tRNA-halves among the total tDRs during hypoxia. Overall, our study provides a comprehensive characterization of the sncRNA profiles in HPH rats.

Abstract The majority of these existing prognostic models of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) have unsatisfactory prediction accuracy since they solely utilize demographic and clinical information. Leveraged by autophagy-related epigenetic biomarkers, we aim to develop a better prognostic prediction model of HNSCC incorporating CpG probes with either main effects or gene–gene interactions. Based on DNA methylation data from three independent cohorts, we applied a 3-D analysis strategy to develop An independently validated auTophagy-related epigenetic prognostic prediction model of HEad and Neck squamous cell carcinomA (ATHENA). Compared to prediction models with only demographic and clinical information, ATHENA has substantially improved discriminative ability, prediction accuracy and more clinical net benefits, and shows robustness in different subpopulations, as well as external populations. Besides, epigenetic score of ATHENA is significantly associated with tumor immune microenvironment, tumor-infiltrating immune cell abundances, immune checkpoints, somatic mutation and immunity-related drugs. Taken together these results, ATHENA has the demonstrated feasibility and utility of predicting HNSCC survival ( http://bigdata.njmu.edu.cn/ATHENA/ ).

Background: Persistent HPV infection can easily lead to the occurrence and development of cervical cancer and its precancerous lesions. Many studies have shown that Simiao Decoction may be effective in treating HPV infection, but the efficacy and safety of Simiao Decoction for HPV infection have never been systematically evaluated. Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Simiao Decoction in the treatment of cervical HPV infection. Study design: A systematic review and meta-analysis of all randomized clinical trials (RCTs) comparing Simiao Decoction versus conventional treatment. Materials and methods: Seven databases were searched from their inception until May 14, 2023. All the RCTs comparing the efficacy and safety of Simiao Decoction versus conventional treatment were selected. Analyses were performed using Review Manager 5.3. HPV negative conversion rate (NCR) was defined as the primary endpoint, and treatment response rate (TRR), and adverse reaction (AR) were defined as the secondary endpoints. The quality of each endpoint was assessed by The Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations (GRADE) system. Results: Ten RCTs recruiting 799 patients with HPV infection were included. Abstract Distant metastasis is one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality of colorectal cancer (CRC). Dysregulation of E3 ubiquitin ligases has been implicated in acting vital roles in multiple cancers. In this study, we found that the E3 ubiquitin ligase, PRPF19 was positively correlated with liver metastasis, and predicted a worse clinical outcome in CRC. However, the biological effects and the underlying molecular mechanisms of PRPF19 in CRC remain elusive thus far. We illustrated that PRPF19 promoted the migration and invasion capability of CRC cells in both gain- and loss- of function assays. Mechanistically, we uncovered that myosin light chain 9 (MYL9) was the downstream substrate of PRPF19. PRPF19 enhanced the stability of MYL9 via K63-linked ubiquitination, and promoted the migration and invasion capability of CRC cells in an MYL9-mediated manner. Furthermore, the Src–YAP1 cascade was identified as the downstream effector mechanism by which the PRPF19/MYL9 axis promoted metastasis in CRC. Taken together, our findings highlighted that the PRPF19/MYL9 axis served as a novel mechanism in CRC metastasis, which provided an attractive therapeutic strategy for CRC treatment.

Abstract To investigate trends in the prevalence, awareness, treatment and control of hypertension and their demographic determinants in Shaanxi Province. Six successive cross-sectional surveys on non-communicable chronic diseases and their risk factors were conducted between 2004 and 2018 in Shaanxi. Complex multistage stratified sampling was adopted to select participants. The information was collected through face-to-face interviews and on-site health examinations. Changes in hypertension prevalence and its management across survey years were estimated. Demographics associated with hypertension prevalence and its management was explored by multivariable logistic regression using pooled data from 2004 to 2018. The prevalence of hypertension increased from 16.71% in 2004 to 31.96% in 2018 with an estimated increase of 1.09% (95% CI 0.31–1.87) per year. However, the rate of awareness, treatment and control among these with hypertension was unexpectedly low and there were no significant change from 2004 to 2018. The corresponding changes were − 0.08% (95% CI − 0.85–0.69) per year for awareness, − 0.06% (95% CI − 1.11–1.00) per year for treatment, and − 0.23% (95% CI − 0.53–0.07) per year for control, respectively. Sensitivity analysis showed the same trend. Adults who were old, male, divorced/Widowed/Separated, retired were more likely to develop hypertension. Among these with hypertension, those who were more educated and retired were more likely to manage their hypertension compared with their counterparts. The overall hypertension prevalence from 2004 to 2018 increased rapidly, while awareness, treatment and control of hypertension remained unexpectedly low. This suggested urgent intervention should be implemented to improve hypertension control in Shaanxi Province.

Abstract Background Cyproflanilide is a novel chemical that is already undergoing insecticide registration in China and has been categorized as a member of group 30 by the IRAC. Since it was first detected in 2019, the fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda, has become a serious pest in China. Our laboratory and field efficacy trials indicated that cyproflanilide exhibits high larvicidal activity against FAW. However, the effect of cyproflanilide against FAW remains unknown. And it is worth exploring further before the cyproflanilide becomes commercially available. Results We found larvae exposed to cyproflanilide had significantly shorter body length and higher death rates compared to control larvae. Additionally, we found surviving larvae had a significantly longer developmental period compared to control larvae. The potential molecular mechanisms of cyproflanilide against FAW were investigated using comparative transcriptomic analyses on larval samples subjected to three insecticide treatments, including cyproflanilide and two other commonly used insecticides against FAW in China, chlorantraniliprole and avermectin. We found that several subunits of the γ-aminobutyric acid receptor (GABAR), a possible target protein of cyproflanilide, were significantly up-regulated at the transcriptional level during cyproflanilide-induced stress. Additionally, between the control and cyproflanilide-treated samples, we identified 131 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) associated with detoxification metabolism. Of these, we found four P450 genes that were significantly up-regulated under cyproflanilide stress but were not DEGs when exposed to chlorantraniliprole and avermectin, or 23 other pesticides from previous reports. Furthermore, we discovered an interesting gene aggregation region for insect cuticle proteins (CPs) on the 18th chromosome, which is likely related to FAW cross-resistance to cyproflanilide and avermectin. Conclusions Our results contribute to a greater understanding of the mechanisms by which cyproflanilide affects FAW. Additionally, we identified the similarities and differences in transcriptomic profiling of FAW between the novel insecticide cyproflanilide and two other commonly used insecticides.

Abstract Background To investigate the prognostic value of ferroptosis-related long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and to construct a prognostic risk and immune activity model. Methods We obtained clinical and RNA-seq information on OSCC patient data in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) Genome Data Sharing (GDC) portal. Through a combination of a differential analysis, Pearson correlation analysis and Cox regression analysis, ferroptosis-related lncRNAs were identified, and a prognostic model was established based on these ferroptosis-related lncRNAs. The accuracy of the model was evaluated via analyses based on survival curves, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, and clinical decision curve analysis (DCA). Univariate Cox and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to evaluate independent prognostic factors. Then, the infiltration and functional enrichment of immune cells in high- and low-risk groups were compared. Finally, certain small-molecule drugs that potentially target OSCC were predicted via use of the L1000FWD database. Results The prognostic model included 8 ferroptosis-related lncRNAs (FIRRE, LINC01305, AC099850.3, AL512274.1, AC090246.1, MIAT, AC079921.2 and LINC00524). The area under the ROC curve (AUC) was 0.726. The DCA revealed that the risk score based on the prognostic model was a better prognostic indicator than other clinical indicators. The multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that the risk score was an independent prognostic factor for OSCC. There were differences in immune cell infiltration, immune functions, m6A-related gene expression levels, and signal pathway enrichment between the high- and low-risk groups. Subsequently, several small-molecule drugs were predicted for use against differentially expressed ferroptosis-related genes in OSCC. Conclusions We constructed a new prognostic model of OSCC based on ferroptosis-related lncRNAs. The model is valuable for prognostic prediction and immune evaluation, laying a foundation for the study of ferroptosis-related lncRNAs in OSCC.

This paper proposes an estimation model of hysteresis loss based on the mapping of the hysteresis loop conducted through tiny material samples with the aid of the Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID). This approach allows precise measurement of hysteresis loops. The aim of this paper is to develop a precise estimation model for hysteresis loss, one component of core loss, so as to improve the overall estimation accuracy of the entire core loss under complex excitations. First, with the help of the SQUID system and measurements conducted on tiny samples, the proposed model manages to minimize the impact of eddy current throughout the measurement and the modeling of hysteresis loss. This contrasts with the use of the conventional Steinmetz model and its modifications. Moreover, compared with methods including the modified Steinmetz equation (MSE) and the generalized Steinmetz equation (GSE) which merely focuses on the overall iron loss under simple non-sinusoidal excitations, the model presented here enables the estimation of hysteresis loss under complex excitations where multiple peaks and DC-bias take place. This approach will be very useful in situations such as those requiring pulse-width modulation (PWM) excited converters which are quite common on occasions including wind power systems. The estimation error of this model on the actual coil is within 15% under given excitations.

PURPOSEThe aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of iodine uptake parameters using dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) in discriminating inflammatory nodules from malignant tumors.METHODSThis retrospective study included 116 solid pulmonary nodules from 112 patients who were admitted to our hospital between January and September 2018. All nodules were confirmed by surgery or puncture. The degree of enhancement of a single-section region of interest was evaluated. After total tumor volume-of-interest segmentation, the mean iodine density of the whole tumor was measured. Meanwhile, iodine uptake parameters, including total iodine uptake volume, total iodine concentration, vital iodine uptake volume, and vital iodine concentration, were calculated, and a predictive model was established. The overall ability to discriminate between inflammatory and malignant nodules was analyzed using an independent samples t-test for normally distributed variables. The diagnostic accuracy and prognostic performance of DECT parameters were evaluated and compared using receiver operating characteristic curve analysis and logistic regression analysis. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to determine the prognostic factors and goodness-of-fit of the whole tumor mean iodine and iodine uptake parameters for discriminating malignant nodules.RESULTSThere were 116 non-calcified nodules, including 64 inflammatory nodules and 52 malignant nodules. The degree of enhancement in malignant nodules was significantly lower than that in inflammatory nodules (P=.043). All iodine uptake parameters in malignant nodules were significantly higher than those in inflammatory nodules (P < .001). The area under the receiver operating curve value, accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of the established model based on iodine uptake parameters were 0.803, 76.72%, 82.69%, and 84.37%, respectively, which exhibited better diagnostic performance than the degree of enhancement on weighted average images with respective values of 0.609, 59.48%, 61.54%, and 59.38%.CONCLUSIONThe iodine uptake parameters of DECT exhibited better diagnostic accuracy in discriminating inflammatory nodules from malignant nodules than the degree of enhancement on weighted average images.

Background The effect of combined nicorandil and beta-adrenergic receptor blockers (BBs) compared with that of BBs alone on long-term clinical outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) remains undetermined. Methods A multicenter retrospective cohort study was performed. Adult patients who had been hospitalized for CAD and treated for angina with a combination of nicorandil and BBs or BBs alone were included. The effect of different treatments on the cumulative incidence of major adverse cardiovascular event (MACE) and their components within a follow-up duration of 2.5 years were analyzed using Kaplan–Meier survival curves. An inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) method was used to adjust for the possible effect of confounding factors. Results A total of 137,714 patients were screened, of whom 16,912 individuals (mean age: 61.5 years, men: 67.1%) were successfully enrolled. Among the enrolled participants, 4669 received the combined treatment of nicorandil and BBs, while 12,243 received BBs alone. After IPTW, the results demonstrated that the combined treatment was associated with a significantly reduced incidence of MACE (hazard ratio [HR] 0.79, 95% conidence interval [CI] 0.72-0.87) and stroke (HR 0.48, 95% CI 0.42-0.54) but not of MI (HR 1.03, 95% CI 0.92-1.15) or all-cause mortality (HR 0.93, 95% CI 0.64-1.37). Sensitivity analyses revealed similar results. Conclusions A combined antiangina treatment of nicorandil and BBs may be more effective than treatment of BBs alone in reducing the long-term incidence of MACE in patients with CAD.

BackgroundMetabolic syndrome (Mets) is considered a global epidemic of the 21st century, predisposing to cardiometabolic diseases. This study aims to describe and compare the body composition profiles between metabolic healthy (MH) and metabolic unhealthy (MU) phenotype in normal and obesity population in China, and to explore the predictive ability of body composition indices to distinguish MU by generating machine learning algorithms.MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted and the subjects who came to the hospital to receive a health examination were enrolled. Body composition was assessed using bioelectrical impedance analyser. A model generator with a gradient-boosting tree algorithm (LightGBM) combined with the SHapley Additive exPlanations method was adapted to train and interpret the model. Receiver-operating characteristic curves were used to analyze the predictive value.ResultsWe found the significant difference in body composition parameters between the metabolic healthy normal weight (MHNW), metabolic healthy obesity (MHO), metabolic unhealthy normal weight (MUNW) and metabolic unhealthy obesity (MUO) individuals, especially among the MHNW, MUNW and MUO phenotype. MHNW phenotype had significantly lower whole fat mass (FM), trunk FM and trunk free fat mass (FFM), and had significantly lower visceral fat areas compared to MUNW and MUO phenotype, respectively. The bioimpedance phase angle, waist-hip ratio (WHR) and free fat mass index (FFMI) were found to be remarkably lower in MHNW than in MUNW and MUO groups, and lower in MHO than in MUO group. For predictive analysis, the LightGBM-based model identified 32 status-predicting features for MUNW with MHNW group as the reference, MUO with MHO as the reference and MUO with MHNW as the reference, achieved high discriminative power, with area under the curve (AUC) values of 0.842 [0.658, 1.000] for MUNW vs. MHNW, 0.746 [0.599, 0.893] for MUO vs. MHO and 0.968 [0.968, 1.000] for MUO and MHNW, respectively. A 2-variable model was developed for more practical clinical applications. WHR > 0.92 and FFMI > 18.5 kg/m2 predict the increased risk of MU.ConclusionBody composition measurement and validation of this model could be a valuable approach for the early management and prevention of MU, whether in obese or normal population.

Abstract To address the prominent problem of declining runoff in many rivers around the world, studying the law of runoff change and attribution analysis is very important for the planning and management of watershed water resources and has practical significance for solving the imbalance between supply and demand of watershed water resources and maintaining the healthy development of rivers. Three commonly used coupled water-energy balance equations based on Budyko hypothesis are selected to estimate the elasticity coefficient of runoff change to each driving factor, and the contribution rate of different factors to runoff change in the study area is quantified by the total differential method and the complementary method, respectively. The results show that the runoff of Huangfuchuan River basin showed a significant decreasing trend from 1954 to 2015, and the runoff mutation points were 1979 and 1996; in the alteration period I (1979–1996), precipitation was the main factor leading to the runoff reduction in Huangfuchuan River basin, followed by the influence of underlying surface; the contribution rate of underlying surface to runoff alterations ranged from 63.7% to 65.46%; the impact of potential evapotranspiration was slightly smaller. In the alteration period II (1997–2015), the underlying surface played a dominant role in runoff reduction of Huangfuchuan River basin. The contribution rate of the underlying surface to runoff change ranged from 80.21% to 86.34%, followed by precipitation, and the potential evapotranspiration had the least impact. The impact of human activities on the whole watershed increased with the passage of time. The land use change, the overall increase of NDVI (vegetation cover) and the construction of water conservation projects are important reasons for the reduction of runoff in Huangfuchuan River basin.

IntroductionWhile pacing has been used for long QT syndrome (LQTs), the optimal pacing modality is controversial.CaseWe report a woman with bradycardia and a recently implanted single-chamber pacemaker experienced multiple syncope. No device dysfunction was found. Multiple Torsade de Pointes (TdP) induced by the bigeminy result from retrograde ventriculoatrial (VA) activation in VVI pacing were demonstrated in the scenario of previously unidentified LQTs. Replacement for a dual-chamber ICD and intentional atrial pacing eliminated the VA conduction and symptoms.ConclusionPacing without atrioventricular sequence might be catastrophic in LQTs. Atrial pacing and atrioventricular synchrony should be highlighted.

Abstract Background Recent studies have shown that sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) can achieve significant improvement in blood pressure in people with diabetes. Furthermore, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have established that SGLT2i have a cardioprotective effect in adults with heart failure (HF). Therefore, we performed this systematic review an meta-analysis to determine the effect of SGLT2i on blood pressure in patients with HF. Methods We used the Medline, Cochrane Library, Embase, and PubMed databases to identify RCTs (published through to April 29, 2022) that evaluated the effect of SGLT2i on HF. The primary endpoint was defined as change in blood pressure. Secondary composite outcomes were heart rate, hematocrit, body weight, and glycated hemoglobin. The N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide level, Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire scores, and estimated glomerular filtration rate were also evaluated. Results After a literature search and detailed evaluation, 16 RCTs were included in the quantitative analysis. Pooled analyses showed that SGLT2i were associated with a statistically significant reduction in systolic blood pressure of 1.68 mmHg (95% confidence interval [CI] − 2.7, − 0.66; P = 0.001; I2 = 45%) but not diastolic blood pressure (mean difference [MD] −1.06 mmHg; 95% CI −3.20, 1.08; P = 0.33; I2 = 43%) in comparison with controls. Abstract Aims To assess the efficacy and safety, primarily in relation to the haemodynamic effects, of interatrial shunting devices (ISD) for the treatment of heart failure (HF), we conducted a systematic review and a meta‐analysis. Methods and results We used the MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, Embase, and PubMed databases to identify clinical studies (published to 4 August 2021) that evaluated the effect of ISD on HF. The primary endpoint was defined as changes in pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP). Abstract Background The purpose of this study was to compare the outcomes of vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) and conventional incision and drainage (I&D) for treating acute suppurative mastitis. Methods Hospital medical records were searched for patients 20–50 years of age who were diagnosed with acute suppurative mastitis from January 2014 to December 2018, and treated with traditional I&D or VSD. Patients were divided into those treated with VSD and I&D, and outcomes including pain, healing time, length of hospital stay, and length of antibiotic course were compared between the groups. Pain was evaluated with a numeric rating scale from 0 (no pain) to 10 (most severe pain). Subgroup analysis of lactating women was also performed. Results There were 110 women who received traditional I&D, and 105 women that received VSD included. The 2 groups were similar with respect to age (31.1 ± 4.8 vs. 29.9 ± 4.4, p = 0.058), and disease characteristics. Abstract. Background:. The new emerging avian influenza A H7N9 virus, causing severe human infection with a mortality rate of around 41%. This study aims to provide a novel treatment option for the prevention and control of H7N9. Methods:. H7 hemagglutinin (HA)-specific B cells were isolated from peripheral blood plasma cells of the patients previously infected by H7N9 in Jiangsu Province, China. The human monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) were generated by amplification and cloning of these HA-specific B cells. First, all human mAbs were screened for binding activity by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Then, those mAbs, exhibiting potent affinity to recognize H7 HAs were further evaluated by hemagglutination-inhibiting (HAI) and microneutralization in vitro assays. Finally, the lead mAb candidate was selected and tested against the lethal challenge of the H7N9 virus using murine models. Results:. The mAb 6-137 was able to recognize a panel of H7 HAs with high affinity but not HA of other subtypes, including H1N1 and H3N2. The mAb 6-137 can efficiently inhibit the HA activity in the inactivated H7N9 virus and neutralize 100 tissue culture infectious dose 50 (TCID50) of H7N9 virus (influenza A/Nanjing/1/2013) in vitro, with neutralizing activity as low as 78 ng/mL. In addition, the mAb 6-137 protected the mice against the lethal challenge of H7N9 prophylactically and therapeutically. Conclusion:. The mAb 6-137 could be an effective antibody as a prophylactic or therapeutic biological treatment for the H7N9 exposure or infection.

In the area of “carbon peaking and carbon neutralization,” changing energy structure from primary energy to new energy is an extremely important issue. Due to the intermittent and fluctuating characteristics of new energy, energy storage technology has proven a viable solution to this issue thus has attracted extensive attention. As a key to energy storage technology, the problem of the low thermal conductivity of phase change materials (PCMs) requires immediate attention. Erythritol is a high enthalpy phase change material commonly used in low-to-medium temperature processes. Its thermal conductivity of only 0.7 W·m–1·K–1 seriously hinders its energy utilization efficiency in practical application. In this paper, erythritol is the main research focus, and single-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) of ultra-high thermal conductivity are used as thermal conductivity reinforcements. The effects of length, mass fraction, and the distribution of CNTs on the thermal conductivity of erythritol/CNT composite PCMs were studied by means of molecular dynamics simulation. When the axial lengths of the CNTs were less than their phonon mean free paths, the thermal conductivity of the composite PCMs increased with increasing CNT axial length and mass fraction, although clear anisotropy was exhibited. Due to the introduction of erythritol–CNTs interfacial thermal resistance, the radial thermal conductivity of the composite materials was lower than that of pure erythritol. When CNTs were randomly distributed in erythritol, the anisotropy of thermal conductivity was significantly improved, as was thermal conductivity in all directions. Comparing the phonon vibration densities of the states of erythritol and CNT before and after recombination, it was found that, due to the interaction between the two, the phonon vibration of CNT was suppressed, and the phonon heat transport in erythritol was excited, thus improving thermal conductivity.

A high detection efficiency thermal neutron detector based on the 6LiF/ZnS(Ag) scintillation screens, wavelength-shifting fibers (WLSF) and Silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) readout is under development at China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) for the Engineering Material Diffractometer (EMD).A prototype with a sensitive volume of 180mm×192mm has been built. Signals from SiPMs are processed by the self-design Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC).The performances of this detector prototype are as follows: neutron detection efficiency could reach 50.5% at 1 Å, position resolution of 3, the dark count rate 200KHz. Such detector prototype could be an elementary unit for applications in the EMD detector arrays.

Objective DNA methylation plays an important role in inflammation and oxidative stress. This study aimed to investigate the effect of inhibiting DNA methylation on lung ischemia–reperfusion injury (LIRI). Methods We adopted a completely random design for our study. Thirty-two rats were randomized into the sham, LIRI, azathioprine (AZA), and pluripotin (SC1) groups. The rats in the LIRI, AZA, and SC1 groups received left lung transplantation and intravenous injection of saline, AZA, and SC1, respectively. After 24 hours of reperfusion, histological injury, the arterial oxygen partial pressure to fractional inspired oxygen ratio, the wet/dry weight ratio, protein and cytokine concentrations in lung tissue, and DNA methylation in lung tissue were evaluated. The pulmonary endothelium that underwent hypoxemia and reoxygenation was treated with AZA or SC1. Endothelial apoptosis, chemokines, reactive oxygen species, nuclear factor-κB, and apoptotic proteins in the endothelium were studied. Results Inhibition of DNA methylation by AZA attenuated lung injury, inflammation, and the oxidative stress response, but SC1 aggravated LIRI injury. AZA significantly improved endothelial function, suppressed apoptosis and necrosis, reduced chemokines, and inhibited nuclear factor-κB. Conclusions Inhibition of DNA methylation ameliorates LIRI and apoptosis and improves pulmonary function via the regulation of inflammation and oxidative stress.

As one of the world’s top three popular non-alcoholic beverages, tea is economically and culturally valuable. Xinyang Maojian, this elegant green tea, is one of the top ten famous tea in China and has gained prominence for thousands of years. However, the cultivation history of Xinyang Maojian tea population and selection signals of differentiation from the other major variety Camellia sinensis var. assamica (CSA) remain unclear. We newly generated 94 Camellia sinensis (C. sinensis) transcriptomes including 59 samples in the Xinyang area and 35 samples collected from 13 other major tea planting provinces in China. Comparing the very low resolution of phylogeny inferred from 1785 low-copy nuclear genes with 94 C. sinensis samples, we successfully resolved the phylogeny of C. sinensis samples by 99,115 high-quality SNPs from the coding region. The sources of tea planted in the Xinyang area were extensive and complex. Specifically, Shihe District and Gushi County were the two earliest tea planting areas in Xinyang, reflecting a long history of tea planting. Furthermore, we identified numerous selection sweeps during the differentiation of CSA and CSS and these positive selection genes are involved in many aspects such as regulation of secondary metabolites synthesis, amino acid metabolism, photosynthesis, etc. Numerous specific selective sweeps of modern cultivars were annotated with functions in various different aspects, indicating the CSS and CSA populations possibly underwent independent specific domestication processes. Our study indicated that transcriptome-based SNP-calling is an efficient and cost-effective method in untangling intraspecific phylogenetic relationships. This study provides a significant understanding of the cultivation history of the famous Chinese tea Xinyang Maojian and unravels the genetic basis of physiological and ecological differences between the two major tea subspecies.

In the medium voltage cascaded converter, the power imbalance problem among the converter modules will result in certain converter modules over-modulated. Reactive power control (RPC) scheme is an effective way to balance the cascaded converters. Many efforts, such as reactive power sharing control and apparent power sharing control have been used to solve the overmodulation issue. This paper investigates an optimization RPC scheme to solve the overmodulation problem by minimizing the total required reactive power. An improved minimum reactive power (IMRP) RPC scheme is presented, the feasible area for the active power imbalance is evaluated and compared with the reactive power sharing control scheme and the apparent power sharing control scheme. Finally, the control scheme is verified on a three-module scaled-down cascaded inverter.

Background & Aims: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a highly heterogeneous solid tumor with high morbidity and mortality. AT-rich interaction domain 1A (ARID1A) accounts for up to 10% of mutations in liver cancer, however, its role in HCC remains controversial, and no targeted therapy has been established. Methods: The expression of ARID1A in clinical samples was examined by Western blot and immunohistochemical staining. ARID1A was knocked out by Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9) in HCC cell lines, and the effects of glucose deprivation on cell viability, proliferation, and apoptosis were measured. Mass spectrometry analysis was used to find ARID1A-interacting proteins, and the result was verified by co-immunoprecipitation and Glutathione S Transferase (GST) pull-down. The regulation of ARID1A target gene USP9X was investigated by chromatin immunoprecipitation, Glutathione S Transferase (GST) pull-down, luciferase reporter assay, and so forth. Finally, drug treatments were performed to explore the therapeutic potential of the agents targeting ARID1A-deficient HCC in vitro and in vivo. Results: Our study has shown that ARID1A loss protected cells from glucose deprivation–induced cell death. A mechanism study disclosed that AIRD1A recruited histone deacetylase 1 via its C-terminal region DUF3518 to the promoter of USP9X, resulting in down-regulation of USP9X and its target protein kinase AMP-activated catalytic subunit α2 (PRKAA2). ARID1A knockout and a 1989∗ truncation mutant in HCC abolished this effect, increased the levels of H3K9 and H3K27 acetylation at the USP9X promoter, and up-regulated the expression of USP9X and protein kinase AMP-activated catalytic subunit α2 (PRKAA2), which mediated the adaptation of tumor cells to glucose starvation. Compound C dramatically inhibited the growth of ARID1A-deficient tumors and prolongs the survival of tumor-bearing mice. Conclusions: HCC patients with ARID1A mutation may benefit from synthetic lethal therapy targeting the ubiquitin-specific peptidase 9 X-linked (USP9X)–adenosine 5‘-monophosphate–activated protein kinase (AMPK) axis.

PurposeTo explore the difference in the effectiveness of gallium-68 fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (68Ga-FAPI-04) PET/CT and fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) PET/CT for the initial staging of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).MethodsThe Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University hosted this single-center prospective investigation (Clinical Trials registration No.ChiCTR2100044131) between March 2020 and September 2021. Within a week, all subjects underwent MR scans, 68Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT, and 18F-FDG PET/CT in order. The effectiveness of medical staging employing 68Ga-FAPI-04 and 18F-FDG PET/CT was compared.ResultsTwenty-eight patients with primary NPC were evaluated (mean age53 ± 11 years). 68Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT indicated an elevated recognition rate for diagnosing primary tumors (28/28 [100%] vs. 27/28 [96%]) and lymph node metastases (263/285 [92%] vs. 228/285 [80%]), but a lower detection rate for distant metastases (5/7 [71%] vs. 7/7 [100%]) compared with 18F-FDG PET/CT. A significant association between the maximum standard uptake value (SUVmax) of 18F-FDG PET and 68Ga-FAPI-04 PET was found in the primary cancers (r = 0.691, p < 0.001). In comparison to 18F-FDG PET/CT, 68Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT upstaged the T stage in five patients while downstaging the N stage in seven patients. 68Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT corrected the overall staging of five patients on18F-FDG PET/CT.Conclusion68Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT is preferable to 18F-FDG PET/CT for NPC staging in terms of the detection efficiency for primary tumors and lymph node metastasis. This is especially true when evaluating the primary cancer and any spread to contiguous tissues. It is possible to improve the staging assessment of NPC by using 68Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT in conjunction with 18F-FDG PET/CT.

PurposeIn this study, DOTA-IBA was radiolabeled with 68Ga and we determined the optimum labelling conditions and assessed the biological properties of 68Ga-DOTA-IBA. We investigated the biodistribution of 68Ga-DOTA-IBA in normal animals and undertook PET/CT imaging in humans. Finally, we explored the feasibility 68Ga-DOTA-IBA as a bone imaging agent and demonstrated its potential for the therapeutic release of 177Lu/225Ac-DOTA-IBA.MethodsThe controlled variables method was used to assess the impact of variables on the radiochemical purity of 68Ga-DOTA-IBA. The biological properties of 68Ga-DOTA-IBA were investigated.68Ga-DOTA-IBA micro-PET/CT imaging was performed on animals. Volunteers were recruited for 68Ga-DOTA-IBA imaging and data were compared to 99mTc-MDP imaging studies to calculate the target to non-target ratio (T/NT) of the lesions.ResultsThe prepared 68Ga-DOTA-IBA had a radiochemical purity of >97% and demonstrated good biological properties with a good safety profile in normal mice. PET/CT imaging of the animals showed rapid blood clearance with high contrast between the bone and stroma. Human imaging showed that 68Ga-DOTA-IBA could detect more lesions compared to 99mTc-MDP and had a higher targeted to untargeted ratio.Conclusions68Ga-DOTA-IBA is an osteophilic radiopharmaceutical that can be synthesized using a simple labelling method. 68Ga-DOTA-IBA has high radiochemical purity and is stable in vitro stability. It is rapidly cleared from the blood, has low toxicity and has strong targeting to the bone with long retention times. We also found that it is rapidly cleared in non-target tissues and has high contrast on whole-body bone imaging. 68Ga-DOTA-IBA PET/CT has potential as a novel bone imaging bone modality in patients with metastatic disease.
