Abstract

We introduce the MatrixSchubert package for the computer algebra system Macaulay2. This package has tools to construct and study matrix Schubert varieties and alternating sign matrix (ASM) varieties. The package also introduces tools for quickly computing homological invariants of such varieties, finding the components of an ASM variety, and checking if a union of matrix Schubert varieties is an ASM variety., Comment: Accompanying the package MatrixSchubert, to be included in version 1.22 of the software system Macaulay2

8. Enhanced Circular Dichroism by F-Type Chiral Metal Nanostructures.

Abstract

Circular dichroism (CD) effects have broad applications in fields including biophysical analysis, analytical chemistry, nanoscale imaging, and nanosensor design. Herein, a novel design of a tilted F-type chiral metal nanostructure composed of circular nanoholes with varying radii has been proposed to achieve remarkable CD effects, and the results demonstrate the generation of a significant current oscillation at the sharp edges where the nanoholes overlap under circularly polarized light, resulting in a strong CD effect. The CD effect can reach up to 7.5%. Furthermore, spectral modulation of the resonant wavelength can be achieved by adjusting the structural parameters, which enhances the tunability of the structure. Overall, these results provide theoretical or practical guidance for enhancing the circular dichroism signal strength of chiral metal nanostructures and designing new types of two-dimensional chiral structures. 10. Preparation and dye adsorption properties of pineapple peel cellulose/bentonite composite hydrogels.

Abstract

The pineapple peel cellulose(PPC) was used as raw material to dissolve in an alkali/urea solution with incorporation of bentonite, then further chemically cross-linked and in-situ embedded with magnetic Fe3O4 to form composite hydrogels. The structure and dye adsorption properties of hydrogels were studied. The results confirmed the successful intercalation of bentonite and Fe3O4 in the hydrogels. The bentonite effectively improved the cross-linked porous network structure, thermal stability and swelling properties of the hydrogel. The bentonite also enhanced the methylene blue adsorption performance of the hydrogels, showing an increased saturated adsorption capacity from 28. 09 mg/g to 55. 87 mg/g. The adsorption process conformed to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir model, belonging to chemical adsorption and monolayer adsorption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

11. Oleanolic acid-loaded nanoparticles attenuate activation of hepatic stellate cells via suppressing TGF-β1 and oxidative stress in PM2.5-exposed hepatocytes

Abstract

Liver fibrosis has the potential to progress into liver cirrhosis, liver failure, and even death. Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) activation play a central role in liver fibrosis, and persistently damaged hepatocytes secrete soluble factors that activate transdifferentiation of HSCs into myofibroblasts. Our previous studies indicated that fine particulate matter (PM2.5) can activate HSCs by stimulating hepatocytes to secrete TGF-β1. However, whether PM2.5 activates HSCs by regulating oxidative stress in hepatocytes remains uncertain. Oleanolic acid (OA) has been widely used in the clinic for hepatoprotection in Chinese medicine. In the present study, OA-loaded nanoparticles (OA-NP) with high solubility were used to attenuate the activation of HSCs induced by PM2.5-treated hepatocytes, and further studies were performed to explore the mechanism in which OA-NP plays a vital part. Our results showed that consistently PM2.5 treatment induced oxidative stress in hepatocytes. Moreover, the activation of HSCs induced by PM2.5-treated hepatocytes was reversed by antioxidant N-acetylcysteine treatment. Hence, PM2.5 may participate in the activation of HSCs by regulating oxidative stress in hepatocytes. Using a co-cultivation system, our results proved pretreatment with OA-NP significantly attenuates the activation of HSCs induced by PM2.5-exposed hepatocytes. In addition, the TGF-β1 expression and oxidative stress in hepatocytes with PM2.5 treated were reduced by the incubation with OA-NP. These observations demonstrated that OA-NP protects against the activation of HSCs by decreasing the TGF-β1 level and oxidative stress in PM2.5-exposed hepatocytes.
