Objective: The study aimed to optimize protocols for the joint extraction of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA) from 0.025 × 10
6 CFU of Candida albicans, targeting to overcome the challenges in the extraction of these genetic materials. Materials and methods: From this, treated silicon carbide (SiC) granules were added to fungal samples from methods 1, 2, and 3 obtained from aliquots of BHI or Sabouraud medium to cause cell lysis and enable the isolation of these macromolecules by phenol and chloroform. The concentration and integrity of the extracted nucleic acids were analyzed, respectively, by spectrophotometry using the A260 /A280 ratios and 1% agarose gel electrophoresis. Results: Therefore, method 3 is the one that most comprises samples considered pure of both DNA and RNA, simultaneously. Furthermore, the presence of intact RNAs corresponding to the base pair size such as 5.8 S rRNA and tRNA was verified during electrophoresis, considering the particularities of RNA, which makes it very unstable and easily degraded. Conclusions: Thus, it results in a faster and simpler method in addition to obtain promising results using minimal amounts of biological sample and offering a valuable alternative for small laboratories to work with molecular biology. Objectives To elicit and quantify expert opinion concerning the relative merits of two treatments for a rare inflammatory disease: JDM. The formal expression of expert opinion reported in this article will be used in a Bayesian analysis of a forthcoming randomized controlled trial known as BARJDM (baricitinib for JDM). Methods A Bayesian prior elicitation meeting was convened, following a previously described methodological template. Opinion was sought on the probability that a patient in the BARJDM trial would achieve clinically inactive disease, off glucocorticoids (GC) within a 12-month period with either MTX (standard of care); or baricitinib (a Janus kinase inhibitor, JAKi), with GC schedules identical in both arms of the trial. Experts' views were discussed and refined following presentation and further discussion of summated published data regarding efficacy of MTX or JAKi for JDM. Results Ten UK paediatric rheumatology consultants (including one adolescent paediatric rheumatologist) participated in the elicitation meeting. All had expertise in JDM, leading active National Health Service clinics for this disease. Consensus expert prior opinion was that the most likely probability of clinically inactive disease off GC within 12 months was 0.55 on baricitinib and 0.23 on MTX, with a greater degree of uncertainty for baricitinib. Conclusion Experts currently think that baricitinib is superior to MTX for the treatment of JDM, although there is uncertainty around this. BARJDM will therefore integrate randomized trial data with this expert prior opinion to derive a posterior distribution for the relative efficacy of baricitinib compared with MTX. In the last ten years, the development of sensors with greater accuracy and precision due to improvements in manufacturing processes has enabled the expansion of their use in several areas. However, the purchase price, mainly of products from renowned manufacturers, in view of their applications, can make simpler projects unfeasible. The sensor data fusion technique is a viable alternative to resolve this issue, as mathematical models can be proposed and used in different situations. These models allow improving the data obtained in order to generate reliable information. Therefore, the objective of this work was to verify the performance of multiple linear regression applied to the fusion of redundant quantitative data from 5mm LDR sensors in estimating the luminous intensity (LUX) in simulated scenarios. To carry out the experiment, 3 LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) sensors, 3 LM393 signal conditioners, 1 USB 6009 DAQ data acquisition board (14 bits), 1 LT40 Extech luxmeter, in addition to the LabView software were used. It was found that LDR A and B sensors showed higher levels of accuracy. Furthermore, a significant improvement in the level of accuracy was found when combining data from sensors A and B in the form of multiple linear regression.

Objectives: Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have an increased susceptibility to infections, including those caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. Why RA is associated with increased susceptibility to S. pneumoniae is poorly understood. This study aims to assess the effects of RA and B‐cell depletion therapy on naturally acquired antibody responses to 289 S. pneumoniae protein antigens using a novel protein array. Methods: IgG responses to S. pneumoniae were characterised in serum from RA patients and disease controls (myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS)) using whole‐cell ELISA, a flow cytometry opsonisation assay and an S. pneumoniae protein array. For the RA patients, results were compared before and after B‐cell depletion therapy. Results: Compared to a well‐characterised disease control group of ME/CFS patients, RA patients had reduced antibody responses to multiple S. pneumoniae protein antigens, with significant IgG recognition of approximately half the number of antigens along with reduced median strengths of these responses. Reduction in multiple array antigen‐specific responses also correlated with reduced IgG opsonisation of S. pneumoniae. Although B‐cell depletion therapy with rituximab did not reduce overall IgG recognition of S. pneumoniae in the RA group, it was associated with marked disruption of pre‐existing IgG repertoire to protein antigens in individual patients. Conclusion: These data show RA is associated with major disruption of naturally acquired adaptive immunity to S. pneumoniae, which can be assessed rapidly using a protein antigen array and is likely to contribute towards the increased incidence of pneumonia in patients with RA. Developing recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains capable of transporting and fermenting cellobiose directly is a promising strategy for second-generation ethanol production from lignocellulosic biomass. In this study, we cloned and expressed in the S. cerevisiae CEN.PK2-1C strain an intracellular β-glucosidase (SpBGL7) from Spathaspora passalidarum and co-expressed the cellobiose transporter SiHXT2.4 from Scheffersomyces illinoinensis, and two putative transporters, one from Candida tropicalis (CtCBT1 gene), and one from Meyerozyma guilliermondii (MgCBT2 gene). While all three transporters allowed cell growth on cellobiose, only the MgCBT2 permease allowed cellobiose fermentation, although cellobiose consumption was incomplete. The analysis of the β-glucosidase and transport activities revealed that the cells stopped consuming cellobiose due to a drop in the transport activity. Since ubiquitinylation of lysine residues at the N- or C-terminal domains of the permease are involved in the endocytosis and degradation of sugar transporters, we constructed truncated versions of the permease lacking lysine residues at the C-terminal domain (MgCBT2ΔC), and at both the C- and N-terminal domain (MgCBT2ΔNΔC) and co-expressed these permeases with the SpBGL7 β-glucosidase in an industrial strain. While the strain harboring the MgCBT2ΔC transporter continued to produce incomplete cellobiose fermentations as the wild-type MgCBT2 permease, the strain with the MgCBT2ΔNΔC permease was able to consume and ferment all the cellobiose present in the medium. Thus, our results highlight the importance of expressing cellobiose transporters lacking lysine at the N- and C-terminal domains for efficient cellobiose fermentation by recombinant S. cerevisiae. - Abstract
Background: Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) may have a heterogeneous response to medical/surgical treatments based on endotypes. Data correlating biomarkers and severity of the disease are lacking. We aimed to determine if IL-5 and calprotectin may be useful in defining severity of disease and identifying uncontrolled patients.Methods: This was a case-control study including 81 patients with diffuse CRSwNP who underwent at least one previous surgery and treated with intranasal steroids. We enrolled 39 uncontrolled patients (SNOT-22 >= 40 and two or more cycles of systemic corticosteroids in last year) (Group A) and 42 controlled one (SNOT-22 < 40 and less than two cycles of systemic corticosteroids in last year) (Group B). We analyzed IL-5 and calprotectin in both nasal secretions and nasal polyp tissue.Results: Calprotectin and IL-5 were significantly higher in Group A in both secretions and tissue, and the higher the number of previous surgeries, the higher the levels detected in nasal secretions. At univariate analyses, smoking, asthma, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs-exacerbated respiratory disease (NSAID-ERD), blood eosinophilia, neutrophils, and eosinophils at nasal cytology were significantly associated with uncontrolled disease. Multivariate analyses showed that asthma, NSAID-ERD, and IL-5 in nasal secretion/polyp tissue were significantly related to the risk of uncontrolled disease.Conclusions: Our data suggest that asthma, NSAID-ERD, and IL-5 in nasal secretions/tissue may be helpful to identify more severe patients, as they are related to the risk of uncontrolled disease. Nonetheless, high levels of calprotectin and neutrophilia were also observed in uncontrolled patients, especially after multiple surgeries.

ABSTRACT: Key performance indicators (KPI) are essential to decision-making in an organization, but the approach to analysis and composition used in the formulation of the KPIs can lead to errors. Analysis based only on averages does not allow for discriminating between variations that are natural to the process or special cases which require investigation. The use of control charts can identify this differentiation. However, when several charts are presented encompassing different measurement units and scales, systemic interpretation can be impaired. To assist in this interpretation, this research study aimed at proposing a method to facilitate the analysis of control charts when multiple indicators are employed in the monitoring of agricultural operations. Based on the data obtained over 26 weeks from a mechanized sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) harvesting front, six indicators were defined and analyzed through individual control charts and, systemically, through a standardized group control chart. Results show that the points identified as being outside the control zone (special causes of variation) according to the standardized group control chart were the same as those identified by the six individual charts, which demonstrates the potential of this method to summarize the information with no loss of quality of analysis.

Summary: B and T cells collaborate to drive autoimmune disease (AID). Historically, B- and T-cell (B–T cell) co-interaction was targeted through different pathways such as alemtuzumab, abatacept, and dapirolizumab with variable impact on B-cell depletion (BCD), whereas the majority of patients with AID including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis, and organ transplantation benefit from targeted BCD with anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies such as rituximab, ocrelizumab, or ofatumumab. Refractory AID is a significant problem for patients with incomplete BCD with a greater frequency of IgD−CD27+ switched memory B cells, CD19+CD20− B cells, and plasma cells that are not directly targeted by anti-CD20 antibodies, whereas most lymphoid tissue plasma cells express CD19. Furthermore, B–T-cell collaboration is predominant in lymphoid tissues and at sites of inflammation such as the joint and kidney, where BCD may be inefficient, due to limited access to key effector cells. In the treatment of cancer, chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy and T-cell engagers (TCE) that recruit T cells to induce B-cell cytotoxicity have delivered promising results for anti-CD19 CAR T-cell therapies, the CD19 TCE blinatumomab and CD20 TCE such as mosunetuzumab, glofitamab, or epcoritamab. Limited evidence suggests that anti-CD19 CAR T-cell therapy may be effective in managing refractory AID whereas we await evaluation of TCE for use in non-oncological indications. Therefore, here, we discuss the potential mechanistic advantages of novel therapies that rely on T cells as effector cells to disrupt B–T-cell collaboration toward overcoming rituximab-resistant AID. This graphical abstract compares the hypothetical timelines of CD19 CAR T-cell therapy (green line) and CD19-TCE (purple line) in the context of autoimmune disease flare. CAR T-cell therapy is often limited to specialized centers due to its high-production costs, labor-intensive process, delayed effector T-cell pool establishment, and tolerability issues with prerequisite toxic lymphodepleting chemotherapy, potentially restricting its use and impacting patient outcomes. In contrast, CD19-TCB, readily available and immediately deployable upon disease flare detection, mitigates the risks associated with disease progression due to delays in CAR T-cell therapy access. Key performance indicators (KPI) are essential to decision-making in an organization, but the approach to analysis and composition used in the formulation of the KPIs can lead to errors. Analysis based only on averages does not allow for discriminating between variations that are natural to the process or special cases which require investigation. The use of control charts can identify this differentiation. However, when several charts are presented encompassing different measurement units and scales, systemic interpretation can be impaired. To assist in this interpretation, this research study aimed at proposing a method to facilitate the analysis of control charts when multiple indicators are employed in the monitoring of agricultural operations. Based on the data obtained over 26 weeks from a mechanized sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) harvesting front, six indicators were defined and analyzed through individual control charts and, systemically, through a standardized group control chart. Results show that the points identified as being outside the control zone (special causes of variation) according to the standardized group control chart were the same as those identified by the six individual charts, which demonstrates the potential of this method to summarize the information with no loss of quality of analysis.

Health systems encourage switching from originators to biosimilars as biosimilars are more cost‐effective. The speed and completeness of biosimilar adoption is a measure of efficiency. We describe the approach to biosimilar adoption at a single hospital Trust and compare its efficiency against the English average. We additionally follow up patients who reverted to a previously used biologic, having switched to a biosimilar, to establish whether they benefitted from re‐establishing prior treatment. The approach we describe resulted in a faster and more complete switch to biosimilars, which saved an additional £380 000 on drug costs in 2021/2022. Of patients who reverted to their original biologic, 87% improved short‐term, and a time on treatment analysis showed the benefit was retained long term. Our approach to biosimilar adoption outperformed the English average and permits patients to revert to their original biosimilar post‐switch if appropriate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The abuse of drugs and their indiscriminate sale are one of the main factors for bacterial resistance, which is a serious health problem. Essential oils are a source of bioactive compounds that may have antimicrobial properties. In this context, α-pinene stands out, a monoterpene that can be extracted from essential oils of plants and has medicinal action. Thus, the present work aims to evaluate the antimicrobial and modulating activity of α-pinene when associated with the Light Emitting Diodes (LED) apparatus against multiresistant bacterial strains. For this purpose, the gaseous contact technique and modulation with antibiotics and blue LED light were used to determine the antimicrobial activity. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the α-pinene was ≥ 1024 µg/mL. Possible synergism occurred between α-pinene associated with antibiotics and LED light of the class of Quinolones (Norfloxacin, Ciprofloxacin), Aminoglycosides (Gentamicin, Amikacin) and Beta Lactamic (Penicillin G and Oxacillin) that showed inhibitory potential against multidrug-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The results indicate that the α-pinene has a synergistic action when associated with conventional antibiotics, such as amikacin, which satisfactorily inhibited E. coli and oxacillin, which inhibited S. aureus. In this sense, α-pinene may be a compound with beneficial effects for the treatment of bacterial infections related to resistant strains. O uso abusivo de medicamentos e a sua venda indiscriminada são um dos principais fatores para a resistência bacteriana, que é um grave problema à saúde. Os óleos essenciais são uma fonte de compostos bioativos que podem possuir propriedades antimicrobianas. Neste sentido, destaca-se o α-pineno, um monoterpeno que pode ser extraído dos óleos essenciais de plantas, que apresenta ação medicinal. Assim, o presente trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar a atividade antimicrobiana e moduladora do α-pineno, quando associado ao aparelho de Light Emitting Diodes (LED) frente a cepas bacterianas multirresistentes. Para tanto, foi utilizada a técnica de contato gasoso e a modulação com antibióticos e luz LED azul para determinação da atividade antimicrobiana. A concentração inibitória mínima (CIM) do composto foi de ≥ 1024 µg/mL, verificou-se, assim, um possível sinergismo do α-pineno associados à luz de LED e aos antibióticos das classes Quinolonas (Norfloxacina, Ciprofloxacina), Aminoglicosídeos (Gentamicina, Amicacina) e Beta Lactâmicos (Penicilina G e Oxacilina) frente às cepas multirresistentes de Staphylococcus aureus e Escherichia coli. Os resultados indicam que o α-pineno tem ação sinérgica quando associado aos antibióticos convencionais como a Amicacina e a Oxacilina, que obtiveram atividade satisfatória frente às cepas de E. coli e S. aureus, respectivamente. Portanto, o α-pineno pode exercer efeitos benéficos para o tratamento de infecções bacterianas relacionadas a cepas resistentes.

[ES] La capacidad de un enemigo natural para sobrevivir y establecerse tras la introducción en un ecosistema dado, es un aspecto crucial de su éxito como agente de control biológico. Con el fin de potenciar las tasas de supervivencia y el establecimiento de artrópodos omnívoros liberados en un sistema de cultivo, se ha demostrado que el suministro de alimento suplementario es una estrategia prometedora tanto en invernadero como en condiciones de campo. Esta revisión resume investigaciones recientes y aplicaciones comerciales de azúcar, polen, presas ficticias y dietas artificiales como alimento suplementario para depredadores omnívoros y parasitoides. Dados los resultados de los diferentes estudios presentados, es posible concluir que los alimentos suplementarios tienen efectos positivos sobre parámetros de la tabla de vida de diferentes agentes de control biológico, tales como vigor, longevidad y fecundidad, tanto en ensayos de laboratorio como de invernadero. Estos beneficios se perciben como un aumento y mejor establecimiento de las poblaciones de enemigos naturales, lo que a menudo resulta en un control de plagas mejorado., [EN] The ability of a natural enemy to survive and establish right after introduction into a given ecosystem is a crucial aspect of its success as a biological control agent. In order to encourage survival rates and establishment of omnivore arthropods released into a cropping system, supplemental food provision has been shown to be a promising strategy, both in greenhouse and field conditions. This review summarizes recent investigations and commercial applications of sugar, pollen, factitious prey and artificial diets as supplemental food for omnivorous predators and parasitoids. Given the results of the different studies presented, it is possible to conclude that food supplements have positive effects on life table parameters of different biological control agents, such as fitness, longevity, and fecundity, both in laboratory and greenhouse trials. These benefits are perceived as increased and better stablished natural enemies¿ populations, often resulting in improved pest control.

The present study reports the synthesis, characterization, and antibacterial properties of silver trimolybdate (Ag2Mo3O10.2H2O) nanorods. The synthesis was performed using a conventional hydrothermal method. The sample was characterised by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, UV–Vis–NIR diffuse reflectance, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The direct antibacterial activity was evaluated using the microdilution method to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). To assess the ability of Ag2Mo3O10.2H2O nanorods to modulate antibacterial resistance, the MIC of aminoglycosides was established in the presence of a subinhibitory concentration of this substance alone and associated with LED light exposure. The characterization of the sample indicated that the synthesis of silver trimolybdate generated nanometric crystals with rod-like morphology, without secondary phases. The treatment with Ag2Mo3O10.2H2O nanorods alone or combined with visible LED lights exhibited clinically relevant antibacterial activity against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. This nanostructure presented a variable antibiotic-modulating action, which was not improved by visible LED light exposure. Nevertheless, LED lights showed promising antibiotic-enhancing activities in the absence of Ag2Mo3O10.2H2O nanorods. In conclusion, silver trimolybdate dihydrate nanorods have antibacterial properties that can be photocatalysed by visible-light exposure. While showing the potential use to combat antibacterial resistance, the simultaneous combination of silver trimolybdate, visible LED lights, and antibacterial drugs should be carefully analysed to avoid antagonist effects that could impair the effectiveness of antibiotic therapy. Objectives To investigate key factors that may contribute to the variability of rituximab-mediated peripheral and renal B cell depletion (BCD) in SLE. Methods We analysed: (i) CD19+ B cell counts in patients with SLE before and 1, 2, 3 and 6 months after treatment with rituximab, comparing them with RA patients; (ii) the presence of B cells in renal biopsies after rituximab therapy; (iii) whether the duration of BCD correlated with patient demographics and B cell expression of CD20 and FcγRIIb; and (iv) the effect of B cell activation factor (BAFF) on the efficiency of rituximab and obinutuzumab at inducing BCD in whole blood assays, in vitro. Results In SLE (n = 71), the duration of BCD was shorter compared with RA (n = 27). B cells were detectable in renal biopsy samples (n = 6) after treatment with rituximab in all patients with poor response while peripheral blood B cells remained low or undetectable in the same patients. There were no significant relationships between peripheral BCD and patient age, disease duration, serum C3 levels or the level of expression of B cell surface proteins CD20 and FcγRIIb. Obinutuzumab was more efficient than rituximab at inducing BCD in whole blood assays, regardless of excess BAFF. Conclusions BCD in SLE is less efficient than in RA. Renal B cell presence following rituximab treatment was associated with poor outcomes. No significant relationships between any measured B cell related, clinical or laboratory parameters and the efficiency of BCD by rituximab was found. Objectives B cell depletion therapy based on rituximab in patients with RA was pioneered at University College London Hospitals/University College London in 1998. The objective of this study was to evaluate long-term persistence of rituximab and identify factors associated with discontinuation of treatment. Methods Retrospective review of medical records from all rituximab-treated RA patients followed up in a dedicated clinic (1998–2020). Data collected included gender, disease duration, previous DMARDs, autoantibody status, age and concomitant therapy at first cycle, length of follow-up, and number of cycles. Drug survival and factors associated with drug discontinuation were analysed using Kaplan–Meier survival curves, log-rank test and Cox regression analysis. Results A total of 404 patients were included. Median disease duration and age at time of first rituximab cycle were 10 and 57 years, respectively. Median total follow-up was 55 months and median number of cycles five. 93.1% of patients were seropositive. Overall, 31.2% of patients stopped rituximab, with the largest reason for discontinuing being primary inefficacy (42.1%). Comparison of Kaplan–Meier curves showed that rituximab drug survival was lower in seronegative patients and in patients who had previously failed at least one biologic DMARD (bDMARD). Cox regression analysis revealed that rituximab discontinuation was associated with a greater number of previous bDMARDs. Conclusion Many patients with RA achieve good control of their disease with repeated cycles of rituximab treatment. The most common reasons for treatment discontinuation were either primary or secondary inefficacy. Patients who were seronegative and who had previously failed other bDMARDs were more at risk of drug discontinuation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

O sensoriamento de fatores relacionados ao desenvolvimento das plantas cultivadas permite obter indicadores relevantes ao diagnóstico e tomada de decisão. Sistemas sensores capazes de obter elevada densidade amostral associada ao georreferenciamento permitem produzir superfícies espaciais que podem ser sobrepostas e com isso caracterizar condições localizadas que afetam o desempenho e que por vezes podem ser manejadas para a obtenção de melhores resultados. A condutividade elétrica aparente do solo (CEa) é uma propriedade que pode ser mensurada com facilidade e apresenta relação com diversas propriedades de interesse agronômico. Por ser resultante das contribuições dos diversos componentes do solo sua interpretação é ambígua requerendo a caracterização de outros parâmetros para o desenvolvimento de modelos de predição aplicáveis apenas localmente. Diversas contribuições vêm sendo realizadas no sentido de permitir o uso e interpretação dos dados de CEa obtidos em lavouras com a sugestão de métodos de processamento e modelagem para o uso. Embora estes trabalhos permitam aprofundar o entendimento eles tendem a ser pontuais havendo carência de levantamentos em escala global que permitam uma compreensão estrutural sobre o fenômeno. Este trabalho teve como objetivo realizar um levantamento exploratório de dados coletados em diversas regiões agrícolas brasileiras e o seu relacionamento com informações dos ambientes em que foram obtidos. Para tal foram obtidos 193 conjuntos de dados de CEa representativos de glebas sob cultivo de grãos localizados desde a região norte até o sul do país, todos obtidos por um mesmo instrumento com profundidades de prospecção até 0,3 m e até 0,9 m, CEaR e CEaP, respectivamente. Um total de 34 variáveis locais ou regionais, quantitativas ou qualitativas foram coletadas e relacionadas. Os dados de CEa foram processados para obtenção de métricas que os caracterizam em termos quantitativos e quanto à sua estrutura espacial, uma área total de 13.649 ha de mapas com resolução de 400 m2 (20 x 20 m) foi utilizada nas análises. A estatística descritiva demonstrou que após a remoção de muitos dados errôneos e discrepantes os valores de CEa oscilaram entre 3,8 e 12,7 mS m-1. Os alcances dos semivariogramas locais ajustados apresentaram valores de alcances medianos de 158,6 m e 171,4 m para as camadas CEaR e CEaP respectivamente. Por meio de técnicas multivariadas de agrupamento hierárquico e análise de componentes principais buscou-se identificar grupos que apresentassem características semelhantes e descrever quais as variáveis condicionadoras do comportamento dentro de cada grupo. Aplicou-se ainda uma técnica de análise de dados categóricos para identificar fatores relacionados à CEa em duas profundidades de prospecção. Os resultados demonstraram que muitas das variáveis estiveram correlacionadas e que aquelas que condicionam a disponibilidade hídrica são relevantes para a o comportamento da CEa em grande parte das situações. Foram delimitados três grupos que apresentaram uma distribuição geográfica com alguma consistência. Na região do Brasil central a capacidade de água disponível e o pH do solo se destacaram como variáveis associadas à CEa. Nos dois outros grupos não foi possível destacar variáveis, havendo uma mistura de seus efeitos. Mapas perceptuais de categorias representativas de classes para CEa e das variáveis apresentaram comportamento divergente entre profundidades mas houve relação mais estreita para aquelas relacionadas à composição granulométrica e correção química do solo. Concluiu-se haver diversidade nos dados de CEa que está relacionada aos ambientes regionais havendo uma mistura de efeitos que tornam pouco factível o desenvolvimento de modelos de predição globais com as ferramentas tradicionais da estatística multivariada. The sensing of factors related to the development of cultivated plants allows obtaining relevant indicators for diagnosis and decision making. Sensor systems capable of obtaining high sampling density associated with georeferencing allow the production of spatial surfaces that can be superimposed assisting on the characterization of localized conditions that conditions crop performance and that can sometimes be managed to obtain better results. Soil apparent electrical conductivity (CEa) is a property that can be easily measured and is related to several properties of agronomic interest. As it results from the contributions of many soil components, its interpretation is ambiguous, requiring the characterization of other parameters for the development of prediction models applicable only locally. Several contributions have been made to allow the use and interpretation of CEa data obtained in fields and different crops such as processing and modeling methods. Although these works allow for a deeper understanding, they tend to be local, with a lack of surveys on a global scale that allow a more structuring understanding of the phenomenon. This work aimed to carry out an exploratory survey of data collected in several Brazilian agricultural regions and their relationship with information related to the environments in which they were obtained. For this purpose, 193 CEa datasets were obtained representing plots under grain cultivation located from the north to the south of the country, all obtained by the same instrument with prospecting depths up to 0.3 m and up to 0.9 m, CEaR and CEaP, respectively. A total of 34 local or regional, quantitative and qualitative variables were collected and related. The CEa data were processed to obtain metrics that characterize them in quantitative terms and in terms of their spatial structure, a total area of 13,649 ha of maps with a resolution of 400 m2 (20 x 20 m) was used in the analyses. Descriptive statistics showed that after removing many erroneous and discrepant data, ECa values ranged between 3.8 and 12.7 mS m-1. The ranges of the adjusted local semivariograms showed median range values of 158.6 m and 171.4 m for the CEaR and CEaP layers respectively. Through multivariate techniques such as hierarchical grouping and principal component analysis, we sought to identify groups that presented similar characteristics and to describe the variables that condition behavior within each group. A qualitative data analysis technique was also applied to identify factors related to CEa at two prospecting depths. The results showed that many of the variables were correlated whereas those that condition water availability are relevant to the behavior of ECa in most situations. Three groups were defined that presented a geographical distribution with some consistency. In central Brazil, available water capacity and soil pH stood out as variables associated with ECa. In the two other groups it was not possible to highlight variables, while a mixture of their effects was evident. Perceptual maps of categories representing classes for CEa and other variables showed divergent behavior between depths, but there was a closer relationship for those related to granulometric composition and soil chemical correction. It was concluded that there is diversity in CEa data that is related to regional environments, with a mixture of effects that make the development of global prediction models with traditional tools of multivariate statistics unfeasible.
