Abstract Objective To examine the clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment, and prognosis of ocular amyloidosis in a Chinese population. Methods A retrospective case series study was conducted. The clinical data of 37 patients with ocular amyloidosis were collected and the clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment, and prognosis were summarized and analyzed. Results The 37 patients included 12 males and 25 females ranging in age from 22 to 75 years, with median age of 49 years. The clinical signs and symptoms included a conjunctival mass in 37 patients (100%), periorbital discomfort or pain in 29 patients (61.9%), ptosis in 18 patients (23.8%), exophthalmos or eyeball displacement in 3 patients (14.3%), restricted eye movement in 2 patients (9.52%), vision loss in 1 patient (4.76%), and diplopia in 1 patient (4.76%). A total of 29 patients had only conjunctival involvement and 8 patients had concomitant orbital and conjunctival involvement. The main treatment for patients with conjunctival involvement was surgical resection. Thirty-one patients had stable disease, 4 patients progressed or relapsed, and 2 patients were lost to follow-up. Conclusion Ocular amyloidosis most commonly presents as an eyelid or conjunctival mass or diffuse thickening and can also present as an orbital mass. Diagnosis is mainly dependent on histopathological examination. Surgery is the main treatment and is done to confirm the diagnosis to guide further treatment, preserve function, and prevent complications that threaten visual acuity. Close postoperative follow-up is necessary.

The wind turbine blade is the core component of the wind turbine. However, wind turbine blades will suffer fatigue and internal crack defects, which seriously affect the safety service performance in harsh environments. The current detection mode is mainly traditional manual detection and shutdown maintenance, with high risk and low efficiency. Therefore, this research proposed a method to conduct a non-stop online inspection of the wind turbine blade’s internal defects using ultrasonic inspection mounted unmanned aerial vehicle. As the vital component of this inspection system, the optimized design of the negative pressure adsorption car was carried out. The structural characteristics of the negative pressure adsorption car were determined experimentally, followed by multivariate analysis and an integrated development and performance test study of the test system. Based on the test results, the detection rate of this test system for internal wind power blade faults is 100%. This research offers novel concepts of and theoretical insights into the intelligent and security identification of internal flaws in wind turbine blades.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to observe the long-term effect of enucleation combined with primary orbital implantation in children with histopathologic optic nerve invasive retinoblastoma (RB).MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed the clinical data and outcomes of children with RB optic nerve invasion confirmed by histopathology who underwent enucleation combined with primary orbital implantation between March 2010 and April 2014 in Beijing Tongren Hospital. The follow-up time ranged from 81 to 129 months, with a mean follow-up of 96 ± 14 months.ResultsA total of 59 children were included in this study. There were 32 males and 27 females; 52 children were affected in one eye and seven children in both eyes. The time from onset of symptoms to visit was between 3 days and 16 months, with a mean of 2.2 ± 2.8 months. The age at the of surgery was between 2 and 65 months, with an average of 24 ± 13 months. Patients were classified based on the degree of optic nerve invasion into four grades: grade 1 (invasion of prelaminar) in 28 cases, grade 2 (invasion of laminar) in 14 cases, grade 3 (invasion of retrolaminar but not reaching the optic nerve transection) in 16 cases, and grade 4 (invasion of the optic nerve transection) in 1 case. Post-operatively, all children were treated with 0–9 cycles of intravenous chemotherapy based on histopathology results from the removed eye. Of the 59 children, 13 had postoperative complications, and one died from recurrence. The survival rate was 98% (58/59). There was one case of orbital implant exposure, one of orbital cellulitis, six of enophthalmos and superior sulcus deformity, two of blepharoptosis, one of granuloma complicated with blepharoptosis, and one with a subconjunctival cyst.ConclusionFor children with RB histopathologic invasion of the optic nerve, enucleation combined with primary orbital implantation reveals future potential treatment options when combined with a full course of intravenous chemotherapy.

At present, the surface quality of Yuba skin is determined by sensory methods. In order to realize the intelligent classification detection of Yuba skin quality, this study designed a system that automatically determines the quality of Yuba skin surfaces based on image processing and support vector machine (SVM) approaches. Specifically, the system uses image preprocessing to extract the grayscale eigenvalues, gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) eigenvalues, and gray level run length matrix (GLRLM) eigenvalues of the sample image and uses them as input values for a quality grading system. Through model evaluation of three classification models, the SVM classification model was selected according to the evaluation results, and different kernel functions were used in the model for sample training. Based on Matlab, the quality grading software of Yuba skin was developed and designed. Intelligent detection and grading were realized through the radial basis kernel function support vector machine (RBF-SVM) grading model. The best penalty factor (c = 3.50) and kernel parameter value (g = 0.98) were obtained through cross-validation. The accuracy of the model was 95.31% and 94.16% for the training and test sets, respectively. The grading accuracy of the RBF-SVM grading system was 93.56%, and the error was less than 5% compared with the traditional sensory method of grading; thus, the quality classification method based on the SVM classification system for Yuba skin is feasible and can be used for quality detection.

Bone fracture is an extremely dangerous health risk to human. Actually, cortical bone is often subjected to the complicated loading patterns. The mechanical properties and deformation mechanism under the complicated loading pattern could provide a more precise understanding for the bone fracture. For this purpose, the mechanical response and multi-scale deformation mechanism of cortical bone material were investigated by in-situ experimental research using the compression-torsion coupling loads as an example. It was found that the torsion strength and shear modulus all decreased under the compression-torsion coupling loads than single torsion load. This indicated bone would suffer greater risk of fracture under the compression-torsion coupling loads. Based on in-situ observation, it was found that the rapid reduction of the anisotropy of bone material under the compression load was the potential influencing factor. Because of the redistribution of the principal strain and the variations of cracks propagation, the comprehensive fracture pattern containing both transverse and longitudinal fracture was shown under the coupling loads, and finally resulted in the reduction of the torsion properties. This research could provide new references for researches on mechanical properties of cortical bone material under complicated loading patterns.

In the present study, we examined the association between family socioeconomic status (SES) and adolescents’ academic achievement in the arts and the mediating and moderating roles of family process factors, verified family investment model. Chinese adolescents (N = 8,723) in Grade 8 reported characteristics of family SES, family arts resources, and family arts atmosphere, and then completed a standardized test assessing academic achievement in music and visual art. The results showed that family SES significantly predicted adolescents’ level of academic achievement in the arts after controlling for adolescents’ gender and school location. The effect of family SES on adolescents’ academic achievement in the arts was partly mediated by family arts resources, constituting 20.51% of the total predicted effect. In addition, family arts atmosphere moderated the association between family SES and adolescents’ achievement in the arts. Specifically, family SES had a stronger relationship with academic achievement in the arts for adolescent with higher family arts atmosphere than for adolescent with poor family arts atmosphere. Findings in this study expands the field of influence of the family environments and enhance an understanding of the influence mechanisms of family environments on arts learning.

Objective service load is the load pattern of cortical bone in practical conditions. The objective service load conditions of cortical bone are complicated, usually including two or more load patterns. The mechanical behavior and deformation mechanism of cortical bone material under coupling load pattern and single load pattern are diametrically different. However, nowadays, researches on the mechanical response of cortical bone have been heavily focused on the single load pattern, which couldn’t reveal the potential deformation mechanism accurately. For the purpose of obtaining the objective mechanical properties under complicated loading patterns, the mechanical response and deformation mechanism of bone material under compression-bending coupling load were investigated by in-situ test. The research shows that bending strength increased under the compression-bending coupling load than the single bending load. By in-situ observation, the variations of surface strain distribution and cracks directions were the potential reasons for the increase of the bending strength. It was found that the cracks changed from transverse fracture to integrated patterns with transverse fracture and longitudinal fracture. Larger fracture range and tortuous crack propagation increased the fracture energy dissipation, which led to an enlarged bending strength under the compression-bending coupling load. Through theoretical analysis and numerical calculation, the impeded effect to the increasing of bending deflection was dominant before the final fracture with the adding of the compression load. The numerical calculation result was consistent with the result of the experiment. This present work would provide new references to further studies on the mechanical behavior of cortical bone under complicated loading patterns.
