Current student development theories are mostly grounded in the experiences of domestic students in North America. The increasing portion of the international students in the post-secondary student population has created a glaring gap for a unique theory of international student development. A unique theory for international student development, with a focus on their intercultural learning experiences, will serve as a necessary theoretical foundation for international student programmes and services that are offered in most hosting universities of international students as an overlay on top of general student services. Through a critical review of existing literature, this paper endeavours to develop a coherent theory of international student development that endorses a critical and post-structural approach to the key issues of intercultural identity, intercultural competence and intercultural adaptation for international students. Forkhead box O3a (FOXO3a)-mediated mitochondrial dysfunction plays a pivotal effect on cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure (HF). However, the role and underlying mechanisms of FOXO3a, regulated by breviscapine (BRE), on mitochondrial function in HF therapy remain unclear. This study reveals that BRE-induced nuclear translocation of FOXO3a facilitates mitofusin-1 (MFN-1)-dependent mitochondrial fusion in cardiac hypertrophy and HF. BRE effectively promotes cardiac function and ameliorates cardiac remodeling in pressure overload-induced mice. In addition, BRE mitigates phenylephrine (PE)-induced cardiac hypertrophy in cardiomyocytes and fibrosis remodeling in fibroblasts by inhibiting ROS production and promoting mitochondrial fusion, respectively. Transcriptomics analysis underscores the close association between the FOXO pathway and the protective effect of BRE against HF, with FOXO3a emerging as a potential target of BRE. BRE potentiates the nuclear translocation of FOXO3a by attenuating its phosphorylation, other than its acetylation in cardiac hypertrophy. Mechanistically, over-expression of FOXO3a significantly inhibits cardiac hypertrophy and mitochondrial injury by promoting MFN-1-mediated mitochondrial fusion. Furthermore, BRE demonstrates its ability to substantially curb cardiac hypertrophy, reduce mitochondrial ROS production, and enhance MFN-1-mediated mitochondrial fusion through a FOXO3a-dependent mechanism. In conclusion, nuclear FOXO3a translocation induced by BRE presents a successful therapeutic avenue for addressing cardiac hypertrophy and HF through promoting MFN-1-dependent mitochondrial fusion. During the Early-Middle Ordovician, the Upper Yangtze Platform experienced extensive development of a distinctive set of mixed siliciclastic-carbonate deposits known as the Meitan Formation. To conduct a comprehensive study of the relationship between mixed sedimentation and sea-level changes, the Hailong section, situated at the southwest margin of the Upper Yangtze Platform in SW China, was selected as the study area due to its typical mixed sedimentary sequence. This section was effectively compared with sections in other regions. Clustering analysis of the point-count groups from the Honghuayuan and Meitan Formations revealed nine microfacies that developed during this period. Such a diverse range of microfacies provides the evidence of frequent sea-level changes in the Yangtze Platform throughout this period. Specifically, two sea-level rises were identified during the early TS.2b and early TS.3b, with the early TS.2b event occurring globally. Furthermore, four sea-level falls were observed in the late TS.2b, TS.2c, TS.3a, and late TS.3b periods. The late TS.2b sea-level fall was globally significant. From TS.2c onwards, distinct variations in sea-level changes among the Yangtze Platform, North China, Baltoscandia, Australia, and North America emerged due to alterations in the paleogeographic pattern. By comparing the sea-level curves in the Upper Yangtze Platform with the diversity curves of chitinozoans, acritarchs, and brachiopods, it became evident that environmental changes played a crucial role in the Great Ordovician Biodiversification Event (GOBE), especially during the Floian. The rising sea level and increased detrital materials fostered the development of diverse habitats, prompting organisms to adapt to varying environments. In general, rising sea levels favored increased brachiopod diversity, while falling sea levels favored enhanced planktonic diversity among chitinous and acritarch species. By shedding new light on the relationship between Ordovician sea-level changes and biodiversification in the Yangtze region, this study offers a fresh perspective on the subject from the microfacies analysis. Fractures are crucial as main natural gas transport channels in tight sandstone reservoirs. In order to reveal the correlation between the combination of fractures in Block Keshen 2 and sandstone, we have collected drilling core data, logging curve data, imaging logging data, and rock thin-section data from the Bashjiqike Formation in the Keshen 2 area, and by classifying and statistically analyzing the different influencing factors of fractures, we have established a correlation between the development of fractures and sandstone thickness, lithology, and sedimentary microfacies. The results reveal the following: (1) frequent vertical superposition and lateral migration occur in the sedimentary sand bodies of the Bashijiqike Formation. Three types of patterns of sand bodies have been identified according to the changes in microfacies. Type I refers to the patterns of sand bodies developed in main subaqueous distributary channels, type II refers to the patterns of sand bodies developed in secondary subaqueous distributary channels or mouth bars, and type III refers to the patterns of sand bodies developed in isolated subaqueous distributary channels; (2) three types of fracture patterns have been described in the various sand bodies of the Bashijiqike Formation in the Keshen area, including high–medium-angle branch-like fracture patterns, medium-angle reticular fracture patterns, and isolated fractures; (3) the coupling relationship among sedimentary microfacies, sand body patterns, and fracture patterns has been established. The high–medium-angle branch-like fracture patterns mainly develop in the main underwater distributary channel and the type I sand body patterns. The medium-angle reticular fracture patterns mainly develop in the secondary underwater distributary channel and mouth bars, as well as the type II sand body patterns. Isolated fractures can occur in all sedimentary microfacies but are sporadically distributed within the three types of sand body patterns. The research results present the regularity of fracture development in fractured reservoirs, which can be applied to oil and gas fields with the same background, providing certain geological evidence for exploration and development. This study focuses on the analysis of the sedimentary facies of the Middle–Late Permian, including the Qixia, Maokou, Wujiaoping/Longtan, and Changxing/Dalong Formations, in the Sichuan Basin, southwest China. Integrating drilling data and field outcrop data, various sedimentary facies indicators were employed to define eight sedimentary facies types in the Sichuan Basin during the Middle–Late Permian, namely, mixed tidal flat, tidal flat, restricted platform, open platform, platform margin, slope, basin, and volcanic facies. Detailed facies analysis was conducted on selected well logs, and sedimentary facies distribution maps were compiled for different time intervals, establishing depositional models. During the Qixia to Maokou stages, an extensive open platform was developed in the Sichuan Basin, accompanied by shallow intra-platform shoals. Towards the west along the Dayi–Ya'an line, platform margins were developed, followed by slope facies and basin facies in a northwest direction. During the Changxing stage, the Kaijiang–Liangping fault block subsided, forming the "Kaijiang-Liangping" paleochannel, which controls reef–shoal deposition in the region. This study provides comprehensive insights into the sedimentary facies characteristics and depositional environments of the Middle–Late Permian in the Sichuan Basin, contributing to the understanding of the regional sedimentary history and geological evolution. Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex heterogeneous systemic autoimmune disease. Previous studies have shown that SLE may be related to diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL), but the mechanism of their relationship is still unclear. The present study aimed to explore the common genetic molecular mechanisms, core shared genes, and miRNAs between SLE and DLBCL as well as to investigate the diagnostic markers of DLBCL. Methods: The SLE and DLBCL microarray data were downloaded from the comprehensive Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was used to identify co-expression modules. Four core shared genes were screened out by various algorithms and validated in other cohorts. Finally, we constructed a common core gene-miRNA network using the human microRNA disease database (HMDD) and TarBase. Results: Using WGCNA, four modules were identified as important modules for SLE and DLBCL. Enrichment analysis of the shared genes showed that the highly activated NF-κB pathway was a common feature of the pathophysiology. Four core shared genes, namely, PSMB10, PSMB4, TAF10, and NFΚBIA, were screened out. These core shared genes were significantly upregulated in both diseases, and they may be potential diagnostic markers of DLBCL. The core gene-miRNA network showed that miR-155–5p, regulating the shared NF-κB pathway, may play an important role in the susceptibility of SLE patients to DLBCL. Conclusion: The present study revealed that NF-κB pathway in SLE may be a crucial susceptible factor for DLBCL. Taking the Zhongqiu 1 Gas Field in the Tarim Basin as an example, the heterogeneity of large-scale mono-block gas fields and their primary controlling factors have been analyzed. Based on drilling core data, well log data, scanning electron microscopy, thin-section analysis, and mercury injection experiments, combining sedimentological interpretation, research on the reservoir characteristics and variability was carried out. The results showed that: (1) The lithologic characteristics showed obvious variations among wells in the Zhongqiu 1 gas field. Specifically, the main lithology developed in the Zhongqiu 1 well is feldspar lithic sandstone, while the remaining wells predominantly consist of lithic feldspar sandstone. These differences in rock composition maturity reveal that a higher proportion of stable mineral components leads to poorer reservoir properties; (2) the main factors controlling oil and gas productivity include the variations in petrology, mineralogy, and diagenetic process characteristics. The high content of unstable mineral components and constructive diagenesis could increase reservoir porosity together. (3) Sedimentary facies of the Bashijiqike Formation in the Zhongqiu 1 Gas Field played a dominant role in the reservoir distribution. The division of sedimentary facies zones reflects variations in material composition and grain size, serving as the main material basis for reservoirs. Differences in mineral composition reflect the sedimentary environment of the reservoir. Additionally, mineral composition indicates the relationship between diagenetic processes and reservoir evolution. The high feldspar content in well ZQ1 corresponded to relatively favorable reservoir properties. The dominant feldspar type was plagioclase, suggesting that early-stage chemical weathering had undergone significant alteration. The above conclusions provided a microscopic perspective to explain the differences in oil and gas production capacity of large delta-front gas fields, serving as a geological basis for the exploration and exploitation of similar fields. The Ordovician-Silurian (O S) transition witnessed dramatic tectonic, climatic, marine, and biological coevolution, during which organic-rich black shale was widely deposited and is considered an important source rock. However, the potential links between the differential enrichment pattern of organic matter and climate fluctuations and paleoenvironmental evolution during this period are still unclear. In this paper, the Late Ordovician-early Silurian black shale in a JieLong (JL) section in South China was identified by graptolitic fossils, total organic carbon (TOC) content, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and geochemical analysis. The results show that the provenances of sedimentary rocks are all granodiorite-like. According to the variations in the TOC content and geochemical indicators, four layers are delineated. Under warm and humid climatic conditions, sea level rise and unstable seasonal upwelling led to Unit 1 organic matter enrichment controlled by high primary productivity, anoxic conditions and effective smectite production. Unit 2 organic matter burial was controlled by cold, arid and oxic environmental conditions, but primary productivity was still relatively high. After the end of the glacial period, warm and humid climatic conditions and rapid transgression were the main factors affecting the burial of organic matter in Unit 3. Under hot and humid climate conditions, higher terrigenous detrital inputs and unfavourable preservation environments, the dilution of organic matter in Unit 4 was accelerated. The corrected chemical index of alteration (CIA corr) values show that the study area experienced a climate change of alternating cold and warm conditions in response to the climate fluctuation during the glacial-interglacial period. The CIA corr value is negatively correlated with the TOC content, while the generation of available clay minerals (smectite) in warm and humid climates is usually consistent with the enhanced burial flux of organic matter, supporting the important role of climate fluctuations in the accumulation of organic matter. Finally, a comparison of the data from the present study with geochemical data from different profiles in South China reveals the role of climatic fluctuations during the O S transition in controlling paleoenvironmental evolution and organic matter enrichment, while such a heterogeneous factor is usually associated with global or regional geological events. This study investigated, in detail, the characteristics of the Late Triassic fine-grained sediments in the third member of the Xujiahe Formation (Xu-3 Member), in the Western Sichuan Depression, and the paleoenvironmental evolution during their deposition through petrological interpretation, mineralogical composition characterization, and element geochemical analysis. According to the mineralogical composition, the Xu-3 Member can be divided into two petrological types, namely clayey fine-grained felsic sedimentary rocks and lime fine-grained felsic sedimentary rocks. The main mineral components are siliceous, clay, and carbonate minerals. Through the cluster analysis of major elements, all samples could be divided into two types with different major elemental characteristics. Trace elements exhibited distinct Sr depletion, relative enrichment of large ion lithophile elements, and high field strength elements. Two REE enrichment patterns were observed, which could be attributed to differences in the provenance area and tectonic background. The paleoclimate of the sedimentary area was warm and humid, but it was hotter and drier in the southern and central parts of the depression. The change trend of paleo-productivity was consistent with the paleoclimate. The waters in the sedimentary environment were mainly brackish water to saline water, with fresh water in the southern part of the depression. The paleo-redox conditions of the waters were mainly sub-oxidation to sub-reduction, but the southern part of the depression was more oxidative. The provenance area experienced a moderate degree of chemical weathering under a warm and humid paleoclimate, same as the depositional area. • We identified aberrantly activated and differentiated CD4+ and γδ T cells as the immunological mechanisms both in psoriasis and IBD, and IL17 and TNF signaling as the common pathogenesis. • We also found that hub shared genes, LCN2, CXCL1 and PI3, which are involved in psoriasis and IBD, are potential therapeutic targets. Psoriasis and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) have a similar etiology, including abnormal activation of T cells. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) analysis was used to search for shared genes. GO (Gene Ontology) and KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes) analysis were then performed. Secondly, single-cell RNA analysis (scRNA-seq) and immune infiltration were employed to explore the immune imbalance of the diseases. By weighted gene co expression network analysis (WGCNA), we obtained hub shared genes. Furthermore, we analyzed the diagnostic performance and immune association with the hub genes. Finally, functional enrichment of miRNAs related to hub shared genes was carried out. Single-cell analysis showed a high proportion of T cells among infiltrated immune cells and immune infiltration showed CD4+ T and γδ T cells were significantly elevated in diseases. Hub shared genes, LCN2, CXCL1 and PI3 had excellent diagnostic properties and were positively correlated with neutrophils, CD4+ T and γδ T cells. IL17 and TNF signaling pathway were the common pathway. In conclusion, CD4+ and γδ T cells and hub shared genes may play a crucial part in common mechanism between psoriasis and IBD. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease with multi-organ involvement, and some studies have found that SLE has a reduced risk of breast cancer (BRCA). So, we tried to find prognostic genes for BRCA related to SLE by integrated analysis and machine learning. First, we downloaded 2 SLE datasets from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and BRCA data from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Subsequently, we performed differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and functional enrichment analysis by Metascape in SLE. Genes that were differentially expressed in both datasets were the validated DEGs. And after constructing PPI network, genes with nodes >30 were intersected with survival genes in BRCA to obtain candidate genes. Then, the candidate genes were validated by lasso regression in both training and validation sets to obtain prognostic genes. Afterwards, we investigated the diagnostic potential of prognostic genes for SLE and the predictive efficacy for BRCA prognosis. Moreover, GSEA analysis and immune infiltration were performed for SLE and BRCA. Finally, we constructed a prognostic gene-miRNAs network and did functional enrichment of the shared genes. DEGs for SLE were mainly enriched with neutrophil degranulation and IFN pathways. After the lasso model of BRCA was established, IRF7, IFI35 and EIF2AK2, were identified as prognostic genes for BRCA related to SLE and had good predictive ability for the prognosis of BRCA. Prognostic genes had excellent diagnostic potential for SLE, with IFI35 and EIF2AK2 positively associated with SLE activity and IRF7 positively associated with IFI35. GSEA showed that both SLE and BRCA were associated with ubiquitinated degradation. Immune infiltrates suggest that plasma cells, dendritic cells (DC), neutrophils and monocyte were elevated in SLE. DC, NK and CD8+ T cells were elevated in the BRCA low-risk group. Finally, 5 shared miRNAs were confirmed, which were mainly enriched in the IFN pathway. IRF7, IFI35 and EIF2AK2, were identified as prognostic genes for BRCA related to SLE. IFN pathway played an important role in the etiology of SLE and the prognosis of BRCA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
