Abstarct: Neosalanx taihuensis (N. taihuensis) is an important freshwater fish species, rich in nutrients and proteins. However, myofibrillar proteins (MPs), as the major component of muscle, are prone to oxidative denaturation. Tea polyphenols (TPs), as natural antioxidants, have broad applications in the area of aquatic product manufacturing. The research examined the impacts of three typical catechins, namely epicatechin (EC), epigallocatechin (EGC), and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), on the structure and gel characteristics of MP from N. taihuensis under oxidative treatment conditions. In comparison to the oxidized group, all three TP compounds notably slowed down the oxidation process of MP and decreased the production of oxidative products. Additionally, TP addition induced changes in the MP structure, with further exposure of hydrophobic regions. Furthermore, TP treatment notably enhanced the functional properties of MP gels, including optimized gel strength, improved water holding capacity (WHC), and altered rheological properties. Among the three TP compounds, EGCG, due to its higher number of phenolic rings, formed complexes with MP that exhibited greater antioxidant activity. The research results indicated that the WHC of the EGCG group had increased by 17.06 % compared to the oxidized group, and the decrease in amino content reached as much as 40.09 %. Finally, molecular docking simulations were performed to explore the ways in which TP and MP interact. This study not only uncovers the relationship between polyphenol types and MP structure, but also confirms the enormous potential of TP as antioxidants in the improvement of N. taihuensis surimi products.

Background The primary purpose of this study was to detect the pathogen species using targeted next-generation sequencing (tNGS) to investigate the characteristics of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP)-related pathogens in children in Xiantao city, Hubei province, China. Methods A total of 1,527 children with CAP were prospectively recruited from our hospital between May 2022 and February 2023. Information on age and sex was collected from the medical records. Pathogen detection was performed using standard detection methods and tNGS. Results The positive coincidence rate of standard detection methods and tNGS were 61.95% (946/1,527) and 97.05% (1,482/1,527), respectively. Among the 1,482 children with CAP, the numbers of bacteria, virus, chlamydia, and mycoplasma infection were 1,188, 975, 321, and 1, respectively. Co-existing species showed high prevalence in CAP, and the prevalence of children infected with only one pathogen was 20.31%. The numbers of children infected with two and three pathogens were the highest, accounting for 29.22% and 25.17%, respectively. Among the 44 pathogens detected using tNGS, 17 species of bacteria, 25 species of viruses, one species of chlamydia, and one species of mycoplasma were documented. Among all infectious pathogens, the top five were Haemophilus influenzae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Streptococcus pneumoniae, human herpes virus type 5 (HHV-5), and Mycoplasma pneumoniae. The results showed that pathogenic infections in children with CAP were related to age but not to gender. Conclusion The infection pathogens in children with CAP were complex and the incidence of co-existence was observed to be high. The pathogens involved in CAP were closely related to the age of the child. In addition, tNGS was shown to better identify pathogens than the standard detection method, which is crucial for improving the accuracy of early CAP diagnosis and initiating appropriate treatment in a timely manner, ultimately enhancing treatment outcomes.

Abstract Background China experienced an overwhelming COVID-19 pandemic from middle December 2022 to middle January 2023 after lifting the zero-COVID-19 policy on December 7, 2022. However, the infection rate was less studied. We aimed to investigate the SARS-CoV-2 infection rate in children shortly after discontinuation of the zero-COVID-19 policy. Methods From February 20 to April 10, 2023, we included 393 children aged 8 months to less than 3 years who did not receive COVID-19 vaccination and 114 children aged 3 to 6 years who received inactivated COVID-19 vaccines based on the convenience sampling in this cross-sectional study. IgG and IgM antibodies against nucleocapsid (N) and subunit 1 of spike (S1) of SARS-CoV-2 (anti-N/S1) were measured with commercial kits (Shenzhen YHLO Biotech, China). Results Of the 393 unvaccinated children (1.5 ± 0.6 years; 52.2% boys), 369 (93.9%) were anti-N/S1 IgG positive. Of the 114 vaccinated children (5.3 ± 0.9 years; 48.2% boys), 112 (98.2%) were anti-N/S1 IgG positive. None of the unvaccinated or vaccinated children was anti-N/S1 IgM positive. Catenary optics enables metasurfaces with higher efficiency and wider bandwidth, and is highly anticipated in the imaging system, super-resolution lithography, and broadband absorbers. However, the periodic boundary approximation without considering aperiodic electromagnetic crosstalk poses challenges for catenary optical devices to reach their performance limits. Here, perfect control of both local geometric and propagation phases is realized through field-driven optimization, in which the field distribution is calculated under real boundary conditions. Different from other optimization methods requiring a mass of iterations, the proposed design method requires less than ten iterations to get the efficiency close to the optimal value. Based on the library of shape-optimized catenary structures, centimeter-scale devices can be designed in ten seconds, with the performance improved by ~15%. Furthermore, this method has the ability to extend catenary-like continuous structures to arbitrary polarization, including both linear and elliptical polarizations, which is difficult to achieve with traditional design methods. It provides a way for the development of catenary optics and serves as a potent tool for constructing high-performance optical devices.

This paper focused on investigating the long-term behaviors of alkali-activated fiber reinforced composites (AAFRCs) cured at ambient temperature. Three sets of curing ages (1d, 28d, and 365d) were prepared. The Compression test, uniaxial tensile test, three-point bending test, single crack tensile test and digital image correlation (DIC) test were performed, along with the microscopic characterizations of SEM (scanning electron microscope) and XRD (X-ray diffraction). The results demonstrate that the AAFRC in this study has early strength characteristics, and the compressive strength and tensile strength of 1d is 34.6 MPa and 2.66 MPa, respectively. The compressive strength tended to be stable after 28 days, The compressive strength of 28d and 365d was very similar, 74.9 MPa and 74.4 MPa, respectively. It is worth noting that the tensile strength and tensile strain reached the highest value at 365d, and the tensile strain remained at a high level of more than 4% after 28d. DIC analysis cloud maps visually describe the formation and propagation of cracks, which can be applied to predict reliably the direction and location of cracks to a certain extent. The variation in tensile strain is explained by insufficient index margins of σoc/σcr and Jb′/Jtip. Embodied energy and carbon emissions of solid waste-based materials are calculated to assess the sustainability. AAFRC shows less energy consumptions and lower carbon emissions compared to concrete classic engineered cementitious composites (ECC, M45-PVA) and LC3-ECC. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis showed that the failure modes of fibers at different ages explained the tensile strength and tensile strain of the corresponding age specimens, and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) showed that the primary polymerization products were C-(A) -S-H gel and N-A-S-H gel.

Super-resolution (SR) microscopy has dramatically enhanced our understanding of biological processes. However, scattering media in thick specimens severely limits the spatial resolution, often rendering the images unclear or indistinguishable. Additionally, live-cell imaging faces challenges in achieving high temporal resolution for fast-moving subcellular structures. Here, we present the principles of a synthetic wave microscopy (SWM) to extract three-dimensional information from thick unlabeled specimens, where photobleaching and phototoxicity are avoided. SWM exploits multiple-wave interferometry to reveal the specimen’s phase information in the area of interest, which is not affected by the scattering media in the optical path. SWM achieves ~0.42 λ/NA resolution at an imaging speed of up to 106 pixels/s. SWM proves better temporal resolution and sensitivity than the most conventional microscopes currently available while maintaining exceptional SR and anti-scattering capabilities. Penetrating through the scattering media is challenging for conventional imaging techniques. Remarkably, SWM retains its efficacy even in conditions of low signal-to-noise ratios. It facilitates the visualization of dynamic subcellular structures in live cells, encompassing tubular endoplasmic reticulum (ER), lipid droplets, mitochondria, and lysosomes.

Metalenses have gained significant attention and have been widely utilized in optical systems for focusing and imaging, owing to their lightweight, high-integration, and exceptional-flexibility capabilities. Traditional design methods neglect the coupling effect between adjacent meta-atoms, thus harming the practical performance of meta-devices. The existing physical/data-driven optimization algorithms can solve the above problems, but bring significant time costs or require a large number of data-sets. Here, we propose a physics-data-driven method employing an “intelligent optimizer” that enables us to adaptively modify the sizes of the meta-atom according to the sizes of its surrounding ones. The implementation of such a scheme effectively mitigates the undesired impact of local lattice coupling, and the proposed network model works well on thousands of data-sets with a validation loss of 3×10−3. Based on the “intelligent optimizer”, a 1-cm-diameter metalens is designed within 3 hours, and the experimental results show that the 1-mm-diameter metalens has a relative focusing efficiency of 93.4% (compared to the ideal focusing efficiency) and a Strehl ratio of 0.94. Compared to previous inverse design method, our method significantly boosts designing efficiency with five orders of magnitude reduction in time. More generally, it may set a new paradigm for devising large-aperture meta-devices.

The objective of this study was to explore the impacts of various ultrasonic powers (0, 300, 500, 700, and 900 W) on the structure and functional attributes of the myofibrillar protein (MP) of Tenebrio molitor. As the ultrasonic intensity escalated, the extraction efficiency and yield of the MP rose, while the particle size and turbidity decreased correspondingly. The reduction in sulfhydryl group content and the increase in carbonyl group content both suggested that ultrasonic treatment promoted the oxidation of the MP to a certain extent, which was conducive to the formation of a denser and more stable gel network structure. This was also affirmed by SEM images. Additionally, the findings of intrinsic fluorescence and FTIR indicated that high-intensity ultrasound significantly altered the secondary structure of the protein. The unfolding of the MP exposed more amino acid residues, the α-helix decreased, and the β-helix improved, thereby resulting in a looser and more flexible conformation. Along with the structural alteration, the surface hydrophobicity and emulsification properties were also significantly enhanced. Besides that, SDS–PAGE demonstrated that the MP of T. molitor was primarily composed of myosin heavy chain (MHC), actin, myosin light chain (MLC), paramyosin, and tropomyosin. The aforementioned results confirmed that ultrasonic treatment could, to a certain extent, enhance the structure and function of mealworm MP, thereby providing a theoretical reference for the utilization of edible insect proteins in the future, deep-processing proteins produced by T. molitor, and the development of new technologies.

The environment of mountain ecosystems can change greatly in short distances as elevation increases. The effects of elevation change on the distribution and body size of carabid beetles were investigated at elevations of 750–2600 m in the Changbaishan Nature Reserve (Northeast China). The richness and abundance of carabid species decreased significantly as elevation increased. However, the change trends are different in forests and tundra. In the broad-leaved Korean pine forest and coniferous forest at low elevations, carabid beetle species have high richness and abundance. The community composition of carabid beetles was significantly different at different elevations and among different vegetation types. Some species only occurred at specific elevations. There were fewer indicator species in high-elevation areas, but Carabus macleayi Dejean, Nebria pektusanica Horratovich and Pterostichus jaechi Kirschenhofer were mainly found in high-elevation areas. The average body size of species in the carabid beetle community was negatively correlated with elevation. The sizes of the larger Carabus canaliculatus Adams and Carabus venustus Morawitz were negatively correlated with elevation. Their body sizes decreased obviously in the tundra at elevations above 2000 m. Changes in vegetation types at high elevations affect the distribution and body sizes of beetles along the elevation gradient. Some large carabid species may be smaller at high elevations where a unique insect fauna has developed. The body size and distribution range of the carabid may be the factors that affect body size reduction at high elevation. Although some high-elevation species also occur in low-elevation areas, the protection of species diversity in high-elevation areas should be emphasized in the context of global climate change. The results illustrate the mechanisms of carabid beetles’ response to elevation change and the need for carabid beetles’ diversity conservation under global climate change.

This study investigated the effects of ultra-high pressure (UHP) at different levels on the physicochemical properties, gelling properties, and in vitro digestion characteristics of myofibrillar protein (MP) in Tai Lake whitebait. The α-helix gradually unfolded and transformed into β-sheet as the pressure increased from 0 to 400 MPa. In addition, the elastic modulus (G') and viscous modulus (G'') of the 400 MPa-treated MP samples increased by 4.8 and 3.8 times, respectively, compared with the control group. The gel properties of the MP also increased significantly after UHP treatment, e.g., the gel strength increased by a 4.8-fold when the pressure reached 400 Mpa, compared with the control group. The results of in vitro simulated digestion showed that the 400 MPa-treated MP gel samples showed a 1.8-fold increase in digestibility and a 69.6 % decrease in digestible particle size compared with the control group.

The magnetic field method for preparing aligned steel fiber-reinforced concrete (ASFRC) by solenoid coil has a limitation, which is that the specimen must be placed inside the solenoid coil, limiting its practical engineering application. To overcome this shortcoming, this study proposes a method for preparing ASFRCs using an external magnetic field created by assembled magnets. A theoretical model is proposed to predict the distribution of the external magnetic field and the orientation coefficient of ASFRCs prepared by assembled magnets. The predicted results are compared with the experimental results to verify the proposed model. Finally, flexural tests are used to compare the mechanical characteristics of ASFRCs prepared using assembled magnets and solenoid coil. The results indicate that the assembled magnets can be used to prepare the ASFRC with an orientation coefficient of 0.9 or higher, and the flexural strength is similar to that of the ASFRC prepared by the solenoid coil.

Usual methods for optical encryption suffer from a tradeoff between the level of security and the complexity of operation given by multiple optical measurements or digital postprocessing. Here, the authors show a multi-d.o.f. metasurface-based vector optical manipulation protocol enabling secure decryption in real time.

Abstract Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a subtype of breast cancer with poor outcome and lacks of approved targeted therapy. Overexpression of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is found in more than 50% TNBC and is suggested as a driving force in progression of TNBC; however, targeting EGFR using antibodies to prevent its dimerization and activation shows no significant benefits for TNBC patients. Here we report that EGFR monomer may activate signal transducer activator of transcription-3 (STAT3) in the absence of transmembrane protein TMEM25, whose expression is frequently decreased in human TNBC. Deficiency of TMEM25 allows EGFR monomer to phosphorylate STAT3 independent of ligand binding, and thus enhances basal STAT3 activation to promote TNBC progression in female mice. Moreover, supplying TMEM25 by adeno-associated virus strongly suppresses STAT3 activation and TNBC progression. Hence, our study reveals a role of monomeric-EGFR/STAT3 signaling pathway in TNBC progression and points out a potential targeted therapy for TNBC.

With the development of the blockchain technology, a decentralized and de-trusted network paradigm has been constructed, enabling multiple digital assets like NFT, to be permanently recorded and authenticated by blockchain. Also, the uniqueness and verifiability of these assets allows them to flow and generate value between any network entities. With the emergence of AI Generative Content (AIGC), the ownership of models and generative contents, which are also digital assets, has not been well protected. Both because the black-box nature of neural networks makes it difficult to mark models' ownership and because the lack of a reliable third-party verification platform. Meanwhile, the existing model-attack threat and raising ethical problems driven the research on model watermark embedding for traceability and verification, and thus the reliable basic algorithm and the verification platform are needed. In this survey, while emphasizing the importance and reason of the ownership protection in AIGC and summarizing the recent research using model watermarking, we will also introduce the achievements of blockchain in copyright in order to summarize the research history and point out future direction of model copyright validation from both the underlying technology and the supporting platform.

Imaging polarimetry is one of the most widely used analytical technologies for object detection and analysis. To date, most metasurface-based polarimetry techniques are severely limited by narrow operating bandwidths and inevitable crosstalk, leading to detrimental effects on imaging quality and measurement accuracy. Here, we propose a crosstalk-free broadband achromatic full Stokes imaging polarimeter consisting of polarization-sensitive dielectric metalenses, implemented by the principle of polarization-dependent phase optimization. Compared with the single-polarization optimization method, the average crosstalk has been reduced over three times under incident light with arbitrary polarization ranging from 9 μm to 12 μm, which guarantees the measurement of the polarization state more precisely. The experimental results indicate that the designed polarization-sensitive metalenses can effectively eliminate the chromatic aberration with polarization selectivity and negligible crosstalk. The measured average relative errors are 7.08%, 8.62%, 7.15%, and 7.59% at 9.3, 9.6, 10.3, and 10.6 μm, respectively. Simultaneously, the broadband full polarization imaging capability of the device is also verified. This work is expected to have potential applications in wavefront detection, remote sensing, light-field imaging, and so forth.

The spin angular momentum (SAM) and orbital angular momentum (OAM) are unique properties of vortex beams and widely used in optical communication and sensing, wherein unambiguous detection of them is of significance. However, the existing methodologies mostly require complicated optical setups, bulky devices, multiple measurements and suffer from limited detection range and ability. Here, we propose a novel angular momentum (AM) detection mechanism that based on optical symmetry transformation for single-shot AM detection within a large mode space. We first give a detailed theoretical derivation and then carry numerical verification. Subsequently, an ultra-compact metasurface is designed so that an OAM mode high up to 150 orders can be determined with a single-shot measurement. Finally, a spin-decoupled metasurface combining the propagation and geometric phase is constructed, which allows simultaneous discrimination of SAM and OAM. Our proposed method may be promising for a wide range of applications in AM measurements and polarization singularity detection.

Aiming at the problems of the low integration of the current power information system security assessment method with classified protection 2.0, strong subjectivity, and the vague quantification of objective indexes, this article proposes to establish a safety index system suitable for the electric power information system with the existing safety inspection standards for power systems on the basis of the classified protection 2.0 evaluation system. Additionally, it quantifies each index through a quantitative method combining subjective and objective methods and uses the analytic hierarchy process entropy method to obtain the combined weight of the evaluation index system. Finally, this paper summarizes the expert scores and the graded protection evaluation reports of the six systems into the original data for comprehensive weight calculation and analyzes the rationality of the weight change. The comparison and analysis of the closeness of the TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution) and the evaluation score of the equal guarantee have confirmed the scientificity and rationality of the evaluation model. It provides a reasonable logical idea for the implementation of the classified protection 2.0 system in the power information system.

In this study, a typical tea polyphenol epicatechin (EC) was investigated for its impact on the oxidative stability of whey protein isolate (WPI) in a fish oil-fortified emulsion. The oil-in-water emulsion system consisted of fish oil (1%, w/w), WPI (6 mg/mL), and EC (0.1, 1, and 2 mM), and the oxidation reaction was catalyzed by Fenton’s reagent at 25 °C for 24 h. The results showed EC exhibited a dose-dependent activity in the reduction of lipid oxidation (TBARS) and protein carbonylation. A Western blot analysis demonstrated that protein lipoxidation was inhibited by EC via interrupting the covalent binding of lipid secondary oxidation products, MDA, onto proteins. In addition, protein lipoxidation induced a loss of tryptophan fluorescence, and protein hydrolysis was partially recovered by EC. The findings of this study provide an in-depth understanding of the performance of phenolic antioxidants in relieving lipid oxidation and subsequent protein lipoxidation in oil-containing dairy products.

Abstract Low symmetric two dimensional (2D) semiconductors are of great significance for their potential applications in polarization‐sensitive photodetection and quantum information devices. However, their real applications are limited by their photo‐detecting wavelength ranges, which are restricted by their fundamental optical bandgaps. Recently, intercalation has been demonstrated to be a powerful strategy to modulate the optical bandgaps of 2D semiconductors. Here, the authors report the self‐driven oxygen (O2) intercalation induced bandgap reduction from 1.75 to 1.19 eV in gallium telluride (GaTe) in air. This bandgap shrinkage provides the long‐wavelength detection threshold above ≈1100 nm for O2 intercalated GaTe (referred to as GaTeO2), well beyond the cut‐off wavelength at ≈708 nm for pristine GaTe. The GaTeO2 photodetectors have a high photoresponsivity, and highly anisotropic photodetection behavior to even sub‐waveband radiation. The dichroic ratio (Imax/Imin) of photocurrent is about 1.39 and 2.9 for 600 nm and 1100 nm, respectively. This findings demonstrates a broadband photodetector utilizing GaTe after breaking through its bandgap limitation by self‐driven O2 intercalation in air and further reveal its photoconductivity anisotropic nature. This provides design strategies of 2D materials‐based high‐performance broadband photodetectors for the exploration of polarized state information.

Due to the increasing popularity of communication devices and vehicles, the channel environment becomes more and more complex, which makes conventional channel estimation methods further increase the pilot overhead to maintain estimation performance. However, it declines the throughput of communication networks. In this paper, we provide a novel two-stage based channel estimation method by using generative adversarial networks (GANs) to handle this problem in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Specifically, the first stage aims to learn the mapping from a low-dimensional latent variable to the real channel sample. During the second stage, an iterative algorithm method is designed to find the optimal latent variable by matching the pilot channels of a real channel and generated channel. Then, the data channels are recovered based on the learned mapping relationship between the latent variable and the real channel sample. The simulation results show that our proposed method can achieve a performance gain of more than 2 dB with a pilot reduction by 75% when SNR is 10 dB, by comparing with the widely used Wiener filter interpolation method. In addition, as the low-dimensional latent variable can be obtained simultaneously, it can also be used for reducing the feedback overhead.

Under the global goal of “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality”, new power system is facing a new energy development trend of increasing the capacity of new energy and reducing the capacity and quantity of coal power. Furthermore, new power systems are also moving towards new models such as the Energy Internet and energy storage diversification. This paper combines the needs of new power systems’ “source-load interaction” and a differentiated analysis of the specific carbon emission characteristics of each subject of the Energy Internet “source-network-load-storage”. This paper analyzes the energy efficiency coefficient and carbon emission factors of each link of “source-grid-load-storage”. Therefore, the paper proposes a carbon control model for the Energy Internet. This paper focuses on the characteristics of coal power with the largest carbon reduction. Therefore, this article constructs a multi-dimensional low-carbonization evaluation index system for coal-fired power plants. In addition, this article designs a fusion weight calculation method for subjective and objective indicators based on CRITIC-G1. Additionally, this paper uses the ideal solution–gray relational method to evaluate the specified samples. Finally, this article verifies the effectiveness and feasibility of the implementation of the low-carbonization evaluation index system for coal-fired power plants.

Monolithic integrated mode converters with high integration are essential to photonic integrated circuits (PICs), and they are widely used in next-generation optical communications and complex quantum systems. It is expected that PICs will become more miniaturized, multifunctional, and intelligent with the development of micro/nano-technology. The increase in design space makes it difficult to realize high-performance device design based on traditional parameter sweeping or heuristic design, especially in the optimal design of reconfigurable PIC devices. Combining the mode coupling theory and adjoint calculation method, we proposed a design method for a switchable mode converter. The device could realize the transmission of TE0 mode and the conversion from TE0 to TE1 mode with a footprint of 0.9 × 7.5 μm2 based on the phase change materials (PCMs). We also found that the mode purity could reach 78.2% in both states at the working wavelength of 1.55 μm. The designed method will provide a new impetus for programmable photonic integrated devices and find broad application prospects in communication, optical neural networks, and sensing.

Purpose: Pediatric osteoarticular infections (OAIs) are an orthopedic emergency that can lead to severe sequelae if not treated appropriately. Approximately half of the patients with OAIs in clinical practice fail to obtain microbiological results even after undergoing aspiration or surgery, which presents a significant challenge in clinical practice. The inability to identify pathogens can lead to incorrect antibiotic usage or under-treatment, increasing the risk of adverse outcomes. This study aims to investigate the clinical characteristics and prognosis of culture-negative OAIs compared to culture-positive OAIs through a meta-analysis, providing insights to optimize treatment strategies. Methods: A systematic search was conducted to identify cohort studies comparing the clinical characteristics and prognosis of children with culture-negative OAIs to those with culture-positive OAIs. The search encompassed the databases of Wanfang Data, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Biology Medicine disc, Excerpta Medica Database, PubMed and the Cochrane Library, with the literature review extending up to March 2024. Data were extracted from eligible articles and assessed using the Newcastle–Ottawa scale, and the articles were selected based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Twelve literature reports covering 1630 patients were included in this meta-analysis. Publication bias did not significantly affect the results. The incidence of long-term sequelae, temperature before admission, baseline laboratory indicators and possibility of surgery in the culture-negative group of patients were significantly lower than those in the culture-positive group. In addition, there were no significant differences in gender, age, race, trauma history, patient delay, antibiotic usage before admission or clinical symptoms between the two groups. Conclusions: Children diagnosed with culture-negative OAIs generally demonstrated less severe systemic inflammatory responses, required shorter treatment durations, exhibited a reduced likelihood of requiring surgical intervention and were less prone to experience long-term functional impairments compared to children with culture-positive OAIs. However, no differences in patient characteristics and clinical symptoms were found between the two groups. Further large-scale studies are still required to validate these findings. ObjectivesThis review evaluates the safety and efficacy of submuscular plating (SMP) vs. elastic stable intramedullary nailing (ESIN) in the treatment of pediatric femur shaft fracture.MethodStudies comparing the efficacy and safety of SMP and ESIN in pediatric shaft fracture were retrieved from five databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, OVID, and Web of Science) from inception to March 2023 using a systematic literature search strategy. A total of 13 outcome measures, such as perioperative parameters, clinical outcomes, and radiographic results, were included in the meta-analysis.ResultsEight eligible studies involving 491 patients were included in the narrative synthesis. There were no significant differences in baseline characteristics between the two groups. Meta-analysis showed reduced radiation time (RT), soft tissue irritation and angular deformation in the SMP group than in the ESIN group. However, the SMP group had greater estimated blood loss (EBL) than the ESIN group. The duration of surgery, length of hospital stay (LOS), implant removal, complications requiring surgery, Flynn score, incidence of infection, fracture healing time, and limb length discrepancy (LLD) were similar between the two groups. Only one study reported higher incidences of fracture nonunion or delayed healing in the ESIN group.ConclusionSMP is an effective and safe intervention superior to ESIN in reducing soft tissue irritation, angular deformation and radiation time. In future power systems with the characteristics of high-elastic, demand response (DR) is considered to be an essential way for improving system stability and awakening demand-side resources. However, all the DR programs in China are implemented in a centralized model, which is easier for supervision, but hard to deal with the challenges of data credibility, privacy protection, transaction efficiency, and so on. Therefore, a novel blockchain-based framework for the DR program is proposed to deal with the problems. On this basis, the bidding transaction process based on the repeated verification mechanism is designed, and the effectiveness of blockchain in DR is analyzed. Then, the smart contract functions involved in DR bidding transactions and subsidy settlement are customized. The feasibility of the DR bidding mechanism is illustrated by the simulation results on the platform of Remix IDE.

Abstract Objective This study assessed whether an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol could be beneficial for children with distal humerus fractures. Methods Children with distal humerus fractures (n = 85) were randomly assigned to the ERAS and control groups and subjected to different perioperative managements. This was followed by the evaluation of their intraoperative characteristics (operation time and bleeding), postoperative characteristics (food intake conditions, pain scores, and discharge time), and postoperative functions. Results The operation time, intraoperative bleeding, and postoperative hematological indices did not differ significantly between the two groups. Preoperative thirst and hunger were considerably less and the initial food intake duration following surgery was markedly shorter in the ERAS group than in the control group, whereas no difference between the groups was observed in the incidences of postoperative nausea and vomiting. A markedly reduced highest postoperative pain score and reduced mean pain score and demand for additional analgesic interventions were observed in the ERAS group compared with those in the control group, although the differences were not statistically significant. No noticeable between-group differences were observed in the incidences of postoperative incision problems, aspirational pneumonia, and gastroesophageal reflux. The total length of hospital stay was not significantly different between the two groups. However, the length of postoperative hospital stay was remarkably shorter and the elbow joint function at 2 months after surgery was significantly improved in the ERAS group compared with those in the control group. Conclusion The ERAS protocol can ameliorate preoperative discomfort and postoperative pain, shorten the postoperative hospital stay, and accelerate postoperative functional recovery without increasing the risks of postoperative nausea, vomiting, and poor incision healing and is, therefore, worthy of clinical application.
