Summary: This report describes a case of sudden lameness in an 18‐year‐old Percheron cross mare after presumably being kicked by another horse, and the subsequent formation of a ganglion cyst originating from the lateral femorotibial joint. Physical examination, radiographic and ultrasonographic investigation identified a soft round 5 cm diameter mass attached to the left lateral femorotibial joint. After surgical removal, histopathological examination confirmed a ganglion cyst. The horse responded well to the surgical removal of the cyst, and 4 weeks after the surgery, the mare has returned back to her same athletic performance. According to the authors' knowledge, this is the first reported case that describes a peri‐articular ganglion cyst originating from the stifle joint. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ventilation of health hazardous aerosol pollution within the planetary boundary layer (PBL) - the lowest layer of the atmosphere - is dependent upon turbulent mixing, which again is closely linked to the height of the PBL. Here we show that emissions of both CO 2 and absorbing aerosols such as black carbon influence the number of severe air pollution episodes through impacts on turbulence and PBL height. While absorbing aerosols cause increased boundary layer stability and reduced turbulence through atmospheric heating, CO 2 has the opposite effect over land through surface warming. In future scenarios with increasing CO 2 concentrations and reduced aerosol emissions, we find that around 10% of the world's population currently living in regions with high pollution levels are likely to experience a particularly strong increase in turbulence and PBL height, and thus a reduction in intense pollution events. Observational evidence shows the ubiquitous presence of ocean-emitted short-lived halogens in the global atmosphere 1-3 . Natural emissions of these chemical compounds have been anthropogenically amplified since pre-industrial times 4-6 , while, in addition, anthropogenic short-lived halocarbons are currently being emitted to the atmosphere 7,8 . Despite their widespread distribution in the atmosphere, the combined impact of these species on Earth's radiative balance remains unknown. Here we show that short-lived halogens exert a substantial indirect cooling effect at present (-0.13 ± 0.03 watts per square metre) that arises from halogen-mediated radiative perturbations of ozone (-0.24 ± 0.02 watts per square metre), compensated by those from methane (+0.09 ± 0.01 watts per square metre), aerosols (+0.03 ± 0.01 watts per square metre) and stratospheric water vapour (+0.011 ± 0.001 watts per square metre). Importantly, this substantial cooling effect has increased since 1750 by -0.05 ± 0.03 watts per square metre (61 per cent), driven by the anthropogenic amplification of natural halogen emissions, and is projected to change further (18-31 per cent by 2100) depending on climate warming projections and socioeconomic development. This data descriptor reports the main scientific values from General Circulation Models (GCMs) in the Precipitation Driver and Response Model Intercomparison Project (PDRMIP). The purpose of the GCM simulations has been to enhance the scientific understanding of how changes in greenhouse gases, aerosols, and incoming solar radiation perturb the Earth's radiation balance and its climate response in terms of changes in temperature and precipitation. Here we provide global and annual mean results for a large set of coupled atmospheric-ocean GCM simulations and a description of how to easily extract files from the dataset. The simulations consist of single idealized perturbations to the climate system and have been shown to achieve important insight in complex climate simulations. We therefore expect this data set to be valuable and highly used to understand simulations from complex GCMs and Earth System Models for various phases of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project., (© 2022. Precipitation has increased across the arid Central Asia region over recent decades. However, the underlying mechanisms of this trend are poorly understood. Here, we analyze multi-model simulations from the Precipitation Driver and Response Model Intercomparison Project (PDRMIP) to investigate potential drivers of the observed precipitation trend. We find that anthropogenic sulfate aerosols over remote polluted regions in South and East Asia lead to increased summer precipitation, especially convective and extreme precipitation, in arid Central Asia. Elevated concentrations of sulfate aerosols over remote polluted Asia cause an equatorward shift of the Asian Westerly Jet Stream through a fast response to cooling of the local atmosphere at mid-latitudes. This shift favours moisture supply from low-latitudes and moisture flux convergence over arid Central Asia, which is confirmed by a moisture budget analysis. High levels of absorbing black carbon lead to opposing changes in the Asian Westerly Jet Stream and reduced local precipitation, which can mask the impact of sulfate aerosols. Background: The organisation of health care services for older adults varies within and between countries. In Norway, primary care physiotherapy services offer home-based rehabilitation to older adults. The aim of this study was to compare patients' characteristics and treatment outcomes in three working models of home-based rehabilitation., Methods: Patients referred to home-based rehabilitation in a large municipality in Norway were invited to participate in this prospective observational study. The three working models, early intervention, reablement and regular physiotherapy, were organised according to the patients' function and degree of independence. The older adults (≥ 65 years) were allocated to the different models by either a multidisciplinary group of health care personnel or by direct referral. Patients' demographic and clinical characteristics, including physical function (Patient-specific functional scale, PSFS), physical performance (Short Physical Performance Battery, SPPB) and health-related quality of life (EQ-5D) were registered at baseline and follow-up (maximum 6 months after baseline). One-way ANOVA was used to analyse group differences in clinical characteristics and paired t-tests to analyse changes from baseline to follow-up., Results: In total, 603 and 402 patients (median (interquartile range) age: 84 (77-88) years) completed baseline and follow-up assessments, respectively. Patients in all three working models had an increased risk for functional decline. Patients receiving early intervention (n = 62) had significantly (p < 0.001) better physical performance and health-related quality of life (SPPB mean 7.9, SD 2.7; EQ-5D:mean 0.59, SD 0.19), than patients receiving reablement (n = 132) (SPPB: mean 5.5, SD 2.6; EQ-5D: mean 0.50, SD 0.15) and regular physiotherapy (n = 409) (SPPB: mean 5.6, SD 2.8; EQ-5D: mean 0.41, SD 0.22). At follow-up, the three working models showed significantly improvements in physical function (PSFS: mean change (95 % CI): 2.5 (1.9 to 3.2); 1.8 (0.5 to 3.1); 1.7 (0.8 to 2.6), for regular physiotherapy, reablement, and early intervention, respectively). Patients receiving regular physiotherapy and reablement also significantly improved physical performance and health-related quality of life., Conclusions: While older adults receiving reablement and regular physiotherapy showed similar patient characteristics and treatment outcomes, early intervention identified older patients at risk of functional decline at an earlier stage.
