2. Unfolder: Fast localization and image rectification of a document with a crease from folding in half

Abstract

Presentation of folded documents is not an uncommon case in modern society. Digitizing such documents by capturing them with a smartphone camera can be tricky since a crease can divide the document contents into separate planes. To unfold the document, one could hold the edges potentially obscuring it in a captured image. While there are many geometrical rectification methods, they were usually developed for arbitrary bends and folds. We consider such algorithms and propose a novel approach Unfolder developed specifically for images of documents with a crease from folding in half. Unfolder is robust to projective distortions of the document image and does not fragment the image in the vicinity of a crease after rectification. A new Folded Document Images dataset was created to investigate the rectification accuracy of folded (2, 3, 4, and 8 folds) documents. The dataset includes 1600 images captured when document placed on a table and when held in hand. The Unfolder algorithm allowed for a recognition error rate of 0.33, which is better than the advanced neural network methods DocTr (0.44) and DewarpNet (0.57). Abstract

We report a precise measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry $A_{\rm PV}$ in the elastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons from $^{48}{\rm Ca}$. We measure $A_{\rm PV} =2668\pm 106\ {\rm (stat)}\pm 40\ {\rm (syst)}$ parts per billion, leading to an extraction of the neutral weak form factor $F_{\rm W} (q=0.8733$ fm$^{-1}) = 0.1304 \pm 0.0052 \ {\rm (stat)}\pm 0.0020\ {\rm (syst)}$ and the charge minus the weak form factor $F_{\rm ch} - F_{\rm W} = 0.0277\pm 0.0055$. The resulting neutron skin thickness $R_n-R_p=0.121 \pm 0.026\ {\rm (exp)} \pm 0.024\ {\rm (model)}$~fm is relatively thin yet consistent with many model calculations. Abstract

For the first time, a new ceramic "Ideal," a diamond-silicon carbide composite obtained in the reaction-diffusion Turing process, which makes it possible to obtain materials with the optimal set of physical and mechanical properties, is studied. An elastic-brittle fracture related to the propagation of a shock wave in a two-component system is noted. The dynamic elastic limit, determined by the properties of silicon carbide, is found to be 13.4 GPa. Its dynamic elastic limit and spall strength in the region of the elastic deformation are measured. The impact compressibility of ceramics up to a pressure of 625 GPa is determined. Abstract

The effect of ion energy in a focused ion beam in the range 12–30 keV on the formation depth of nonradiative recombination centers during etching of the Al0.18Ga0.82As/GaAs/Al0.18Ga0.82As double heterostructure has been studied. It is shown that an increase in the ion energy leads to an increase in the concentration and propagation depth of radiation defects. It was found that during etching of focused ion beam with ion energies above 15 keV, the depth of formation of radiation defects exceeds 900 nm, which does not correspond to the calculations in the Stopping and Range of Ions in Matter. Abstract

We report precision determinations of the beam normal single spin asymmetries ($A_n$) in the elastic scattering of 0.95 and 2.18~GeV electrons off $^{12}$C, $^{40}$Ca, $^{48}$Ca, and $^{208}$Pb at very forward angles where the most detailed theoretical calculations have been performed. The first measurements of $A_n$ for $^{40}$Ca and $^{48}$Ca are found to be similar to that of $^{12}$C, consistent with expectations thus demonstrating the validity of theoretical calculations for nuclei with Z~$\leq20$. We also report $A_n$ for $^{208}$Pb at two new momentum transfers (Q$^2$) extending the previous measurement. Our new data confirm the surprising result previously reported, with all three data points showing significant disagreement with the results from the $Z\leq 20$ nuclei. These data confirm our basic understanding of the underlying dynamics that govern $A_n$ for nuclei containing $\lesssim 50$ nucleons, but point to the need for further investigation to understand the unusual $A_n$ behaviour discovered for scattering off $^{208}$Pb., Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures

Abstract

Methods and design tools change and improve every year, and now the design of buildings and structures is carried out in CAD software complexes. However, the variety of software systems does not allow to fully implement the concept of information modeling (BIM) due to the difficulties of data exchange between highly specialized programs. In particular, the design of reinforcement in design systems often occurs from scratch, and not all of the applied design systems make it easy to work with the results of the selection of reinforcement. In this paper, we investigate the possibilities of simplifying the design process of reinforcement of reinforced concrete structures by linking the building information modeling program (Revit) with a software and computing complex (SCAD). The perspective of building information modeling is fixed by regulatory documents. Since when designing with CAD software programs, the same type of operations are often performed, especially when making changes to the project, their automation and simplification is of interest.
