This communication is part of an interdisciplinary research-action project aimed to support the construction of health and occupational pathways for people with invisible disabilities. It provides an account of on a methodological exploration on a counselling approach that places as its heart a tool initially developed by one of the team's members in the context of an ergonomic intervention. It explains how this tool was remobilized for research purposes and the reasons that led to its development. The originality of this tool, called "chronicle of vulnerability", lay in the link between the state of health of an individual and the positive or negative events of his or her occupational pathway. Developments have been introduced to provide an enhanced methodology for data collection and analysis. This development is underpinned by a conceptual framework aimed at providing a more comprehensive understanding the individual's experience of vulnerability, but also developing this experience. As a result, the representation of vulnerability provided by the chronicle and the uses made of it have a double aim. On the one hand, there is an understanding of the person's history and experience, by himself or herself and by others; on the other hand, there is a developmental aim, through awareness of what it means to be vulnerable and of the resources, both internal and external, that can be mobilized and created to enable the person to cope with it. The discussion identifies limits of the tool, and shows how the methodological approach appears promising for counselling. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
